NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 24, 2017

Calgary Music Venue DISTORTION Celebrates 10th Anniversary

A prominent Calgary multi-genre music venue is celebrating its 10th year supporting the local music community on February 11th with a huge line up of well-known local bands. Among them are legendary Calgary punk act BDFM with Distortion co-owner Mark Russell on drums.

Saturday, February 11, Distortion invites everyone to join them in celebrating 10 years, 4 bars, and countless good times as an integral part of local Calgary music scene. The anniversary show consists of 8 bands including; Exit Strategy, Hypnopilot, Bloated Pig, Caveat, The Press Gang, Conniving Cadavers, and No More Moments. Headlining the massive bill, back for one more show, are old school local legends BDFM. As well, in partnership with Long & McQuade, there will be a second stage with contortionists, freak shows, a positive rap battle & acoustic acts: Franky Frog Liquor, and Dylan Wolfspider. The D crew is looking forward to celebrating 10 years of helping the music community to flourish and continuing for (at least) 10 more.

Doors for the show open are 6pm and the festivities will go until 2 am. There will be surprises, drink specials, old memories shared and new ones created. Distortion is located at 3828 Macleod Trails S. Tickets are $20 and are available from the bar in advance or at https://www.myshowpass.com/distortion-the-d-the-distillery-10-year-anniversar/

Bio:

On February 12th 2007, a scene was born when an intrepid group of music lovers took over The Distillery Public House in downtown Calgary, AB. They catered to a diverse crowd serving lunch and dinner and at night having tight, intimate live music shows. Some of the big names that graced the stage included The Real McKenzies, Del the Funky Homosapian, Dayglo Abortions, D.O.A., The Vibrators, UK Subs, always supported by talented local bands.

After the lease was up, it was on to bigger and better things when they moved into an old theatre, The Distillery Rock n Roll Ballroom had arrived. One of the most legendary venues to make its mark on the Calgary music community, the ballroom hosted all genres with artists like Bone Thugs n’ Harmony, The Bronx, Mad Caddies, and Sticky Buds. The D crew had built up an infectious momentum, creating a highly desired place to play, and flooding the scene with high quality shows. Unfortunately the carpet was suddenly swept out from underneath them in 2012 and the crew had to seek out new digs.

Losing such an iconic venue was a massive detriment to the entire city, as it affected many genres, promoters, artists and fans. The group soldiered on and ended up in Eau Claire in their third venue. Unfortunately, that venture was short lived. It seemed like it was the end, and the community tried to rebuild itself working with the other local venues, opening new ones, seeing others shut down. Unbeknownst to the public at large, the D crew still wasn’t done. After a year, on May 1 2015, the announcement was made that a fourth venue had been found. After a few coats of paint and the posting of the famous bathroom rules, the rebranded Distortion – Live Music Venue was opened. Continuing to host local talent and bringing in big headliners like Blessthefall, SNFU, The Exalted Piledriver, and Stylist Beats, Distortion is the next chapter in the team’s journey to nurture the live music community.

New Noise Mag Song Premiere THIS GUN FOR HIRE ‘Good Evening Deacon’

Debut Album ‘Something A Little More Sinister’ Out March 31st

Vancouver metalcore tycoons THIS GUN FOR HIRE will be unleashing their debut album ‘Something A Little More Sinister’ on March 31, 2017. The band recorded the release with engineer and producer Roger Swan (K-OS, Battle Axe) to present their first clutch of original songs to showcase to the world. The twelve track release displays a keen awareness of pace and dynamics. Moving deftly from the seething chaos of the eponymous opener to the grandiose and melodic epic of “To The Fallen And The Faithful’, and back again for the staccato grunt of ‘Barn Burner’ to finish the record, THIS GUN FOR HIRE leave you in little doubt as to their capabilities.

Teaming up with New Noise Magazine, THIS GUN FOR HIRE is proud to share their first single ‘Good Morning Deacon’ as introduction of what’s to come.

The band comments on the track:

“‘Good Evening Deacon’ was written about an encounter that was had with a young man that was at the end of his rope. When traveling home one evening, Deacon was happened upon while on the other side of the Granville bridge, ready to leap to an untimely demise. After hours of gentle talking and coaxing, he was talked back to safety on to the other side of the railings.

This song is in his honor, and dedicated to all those who feel the misery and loneliness is too much to bare. Even when things seem their darkest, waking up over and over to the same heartache, and life is repeatedly stomping on you, intent on driving you down; there is hope. And sometimes the love you seek will come from people you’ve never met, showing you your life does in fact matter and things will get better. This song is for Deacon Braun. I hope happiness found you.”

‘Good Evening Deacon’ is now streaming at the following link: http://newnoisemagazine.com/premiere-gun-hire-good-evening-deacon/

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 20, 2017

For fans of Dream Theater, Tool, Yngwie Malmsteen, Animals As Leaders,Van Halen, RacerX

Out Now! Vancouver Prog Virtuosos OMNISIGHT Release New EP ‘Power of One’

Bringing progressive metal into new dimensions especially for those who really enjoy full explosive adventure, Vancouver virtuosos OmnisighT are giving the world the ‘Power of One’, the latest offering to showcase their highly regarded musicianship and finely wrought song-craft.  ‘Power of One’ as a whole is a musical journey with a story concept to question the status quo and stand up against the oppression plus deceptions of the ruling class.

Drummer Chris Warunki comments on the release:

“The Power Of One is the sound of a band firing on all cylinders. Guitarists, bassists, drummers and vocalists will all have something in-store for them here with this EP. We are excited to get this out to the prog/rock/metal masses both musically and lyrically. Speaking of lyrically, the album will come with a PDF booklet exclusive to our Bandcamp supporters. We took a “more is more” approach with this one and it will be a real challenge, but a welcome challenge; to take it to the stage. A local Vancouver EP release party/show is in the works and TBA. We want to keep the musicianship in the music, that has been our agenda since day one!”

‘Power of One’ is now streaming along with CD and digital download at https://omnisight.bandcamp.com/album/the-power-of-one

Also available on iTunes, Spotify, and all other major online retailers.

About:
Known for their formidable musicianship, virtuosic guitar solos and powerful songs, OmnisighT is masterfully blurring the lines between melodic hard rock and progressive metal. Beginning as collaboration between vocalist/guitarist Raj Krishna and drummer Chris Warunki, they created the impressive ‘Path’ debut album in 2012. Their live line-up was consolidated with the addition of Dave Shannon on bass and guitarist Blake Rurik. ‘Path’ was followed up by the 2013 ‘Wave Particle’ EP.

Like all truly visionary musicians, band co-founder Raj was driven to create unique music. “I’ve been writing and singing songs since I was a little kid. We never seemed to hear heavy prog music that had shredding and hooks at the same time. It always seems you get one or the other….Having technical musicianship with good song-writing, shredding licks, and big hooks was the whole idea.”

Raj sums up OmnisighT’s music thusly: ‘Proggy, hooky, shredding, sad, and powerful!’

While Raj is justifiably proud of OmnisighT’s recorded output, he sees the importance of performance. ‘Live is where the band really shines! We put on a show, running around smiling and shredding. The band plays with more intensity…we often give the headliners a run for their money.’

“The depth of talent in Canada often surprises us. Here is another superb band to add to the list. It remains to be seen how far “The Power Of One” takes OmnisighT. But one thing is for sure, it is an EP of which they can be incredibly proud.” – Maximum Volume Music

“If you’re going to attempt this sort of thing, you’d better have chops. Fortunately, (OmnisighT) have ’em, and how.” – Georgia Straight

“Their stage presence and technique is out of this world…I can safely say that the only guitarists I’ve seen live that instilled the same sort of awe in me as Raj Krishna were Jeff Loomis and John Petrucci himself.” – Prog Sphere

“great songwriting, fantastic lead guitar work…immediately on the first track, the intro “String Theory,” we are greeted by some immense guitar skills. Seriously, these guys are fucking fantastic.” – The Monolith

“deliciously retro, Zappa-meets-Malmsteen solos with at least one toe in the land of jazzy improv… guitar fiends should rush to check them out.” – Georgia Straight

“I have never been more impressed with a band that I had zero knowledge about. These guys play like they’ve been playing together since birth and clearly love what they do at a cellular level.” – Metal Titans

“Weapons Of Thrash Destruction is relentless from start to finish.” – Bravewords

“The Canadian quintet Terrifier knows full well what its strengths are and it plays to them in spades on the wonderfully titled Weapons of Thrash Destruction…This is a fine thrash record. Should make for a fun concert, too.” – The Vancouver Sun

“Terrifier proudly delivers a true-to-form tribute to the genre that thoroughly kicked the ass of the 1980s: thrash…It’s clear, metal music is not dead. Lurking in the shadows of the music industry are new artists like Terrifier, mastering their crafts, looking to flip the industry on its head. Weapons of Thrash Destruction is an impressive effort, explosively blending classic tricks with a modern, fresh feel.” – Beatroute BC

“Strike in the name of old school Metal, kneel before the gods of Metal that brought you the best music ever played in stereo, hail the insanity delivered by fast paced riffing and unholy melodic rhythms.” – Metal Temple

“The music is fast and tight, the riffs are complex and fun, the production, solos, and vocals are all spot-on, and there’s plenty of humor to boot. In other words, everything one should want from a thrash album is on Weapons of Thrash Destruction.” – Angry Metal Guy

“an old school thrash cocktail designed to blow a hole right through the bulkhead.” – Amps and Green Screens

“This album (Weapons of Thrash Destruction) is straight up unapologetic thrash! Love the album.” – CJSF – Metal Meltdown

Day 3 – April 8th

Terrifier (Vancouver, BC)

The terrifically titled Terrifier brings their thrash metal apocalypse straight outta Vancouver, BC. As the Metal God himself Rob Halford memorably sang: ‘fast and furious/we ride the universe’, that very much sums up Terrifier’s dedication to the glory of thrash!

Originally known as Skullhammer, Terrifier released their debut album ‘Destroyers of the Faith’ back in 2011, so this is no flash-in-the-pan thrash band! Incorporating jackhammer drums, bulldozing bass-lines, a twin-lead attack that leaves posers pulped in its wake, and vocals that can level mountains. Terrifier’s motto could well be ‘thrashing is our business…and business is good’.

Terrifier take what has gone before, the old gods, Metallica, Slayer, and use them to birth new sounds, the old Gods are eternal, but hail the new Gods too!

Vocalist, bassist and founder member Chase Thibodeau explains Terrifier’s reason for being. ‘We formed this band because we love thrash and play what we think sounds cool…our music is fast, technical, heavy and melodic and shredding.’ Indeed, this is a band that truly puts the shred inside your head!

It’s their inspirations that drive them to create such perspiration-inducing music as Chase explains: ‘Adrenaline, speed and aggression….that’s the feeling we want to put into people….We started steering more towards an aggressive thrash sound…even being influenced by death metal!’

Their new release ‘Weapons of Thrash Destruction’ features such soon to be classics as ‘Bestial Tyranny’, ‘Skitzoid Embolism’ and ‘Nuclear Demolisher’ and ‘Sect of the Serpent’, a song inspired by Conan the Barbarian as Chase says ‘the idea was to trample the weak and hurdle the dead on this one!’

Chase sums up Terrifier’s new music: ‘We think people will enjoy this album and use our music to get pumped up for whatever life throws at them. It would be our honour to inspire others into thrash metal…the world needs more thrash!’

Terrifier’s new album ‘Weapons of Thrash Destruction’ is slated for release on January 20, 2017 via Test Your Metal Records.

W.M.D (Calgary, AB)

Formed in 2015, Calgary thrash band, W.M.D, previously known as Shrapnal, has evolved into a blistering fast thrash act that consistently destroys every performance. Their name, which stands for “When Minds Develop”, is a concept that inspires their heavy thrash metal with the idea that the developed human mind is the ultimate weapon of mass destruction. W.M.D are currently recording their debut album, so prepare yourselves for a party. These 20-22 year old maniacs don’t just destroy the stage….they destroy themselves as well!

https://www.facebook.com/WMDofficial/

Tessitura (Edmonton, AB)

Since 2008, Edmonton-based Tessitura have been taunting the western Canadian underground metal scene with their eclectic blend of melodic death metal, progressive music and classic thrash. They meticulously craft their unique sound by layering the edge-of-your-seat, earth-shaking guitar work of Stephan Ceña and Chris Devries, backing it up with Leillyn McColman’s up-lifting bass lines and the driving drum patterns of Gord Alexander, and finishing the sound with the dual-vocal freight train of Ceña and lead vocalist Cyn Mercredi’s powerful screams and haunting growls. Tessitura can be heard at one of their thunderous live performances, or on their current releases, ‘Savage Embrace'(2013) & ‘Battle to Eternity'(2010).

https://www.facebook.com/TessituraMetal

Train Bigger Monkeys (Calgary, AB)

Train Bigger Monkeys is an expression of society force fed life long corruption. Metal has a way of taking control, and TBM revels in the direction it takes them.

Formed in the winter of 2007, Train Bigger Monkeys have set out to destroy. With a sound that is both melodic and punishing, TBM has succeeded in creating music that melts faces and blasts minds. ‘Don’t Forget The Business In The Music Business’ Author Antonio Ponce Posts Advice Blog On Band Budgeting

‘Band Budget – Tips On How To Keep Money In The Bank For Band Expenses’

‘Don’t Forget The Business In The Music Business’ author Antonio Ponce has posted a new blog on the financial responsibilities that goes with being in a band and working out your budgets.

“The last thing you want to happen is to get a big break and not be able to act on it due to a lack of funds. Opportunities only come every so often and you need to be ready to pounce when they do. Being in a band means you are part of a team. However, some things need to be taken care of at the individual level first.” says Ponce.

Entitled ‘Band Budget – Tips On How To Keep Money In The Bank For Band Expenses’, the blog mentions tips to get your financials organized for future development, just one of many topics discussed by Ponce in his new book. The blog entry can be read at the following link: https://www.apjonespublishing.com/blogs/news/band-budget-run-out-of-money-before-you-run-out-of-month

Ponce
recently released his debut educational music business book ‘Don’t Forget The Business In The Music Business’ to enable up-and-coming bands to ascend the ladder of success, in his own words, it’s a “lean valuable quick simple guide.”.

The book is based on his band’s experience from playing his first show to six months later being invited to play a festival in Tokyo, Japan. The book is a great starting point for those interested in the business side of the music industry. Think of it as a quick business foundation musicians can use to get things going.

Ponce explains:

“I would have loved to have this information when our band started. There were so many unanswered questions that took years of searching and experience to learn. If this book had existed back then, we could have leaped over the fire instead of trying to walk through it! I know a lot of new and current bands stuck on the ‘what to do next?’ question will find value in the book’s contents. I hope this book is a tool musicians can use to help them get into a position to get to the next level and notice what we were able to do as an unknown band and that they can do it too!”

‘Don’t Forget The Business In The Music Business’ is now available both digitally and paperback on Amazon here and AP Jones Publishing here.

STRIKER New Lyric Video ‘Born To Lose’; Launch Album Pre-Order + USA / EU Tour Dates

Headlining US Tour (WA/OR/CA/AZ/TX/LA/FL/GA/MO/IL/MN)

European Tour Dates w/ Sonata Arctica

Canadian shredders STRIKER have posted their new lyric video ‘Born To Lose’, the first single in support of their upcoming self-titled album due out February 24, 2017 via their own independent label Record Breaking Records. The self-titled release is their fifth to follow their WCMA and EMA award winning 2016 album ‘Stand In The Fire’. STRIKER will be on tour across the USA and Europe from January till mid April (dates listed below).

The band comments on track:

“Born To Lose, like most of our songs, is about doing what you want in life. When you are born into this world, there is a lot of you life that is predetermined. If you choose to change part of your life you need to go out and live it, not just fantasize about it. We’ve always wanted to hear music like ours, so we started a band and created it. Born to Lose embraces everything we love about music: speed, nonstop shred, huge vocals, guitars, and drums, and over the top energy and emotion. If it doesn’t make you want to throw down and party then nothing will.”
