NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 19, 2019

For fans of Blackened Death Metal, Behemoth, Cradle of Filth, Abbath, Immortal, Dimmu Borgir

NECRONOMICON Announce “A Relentless Onslaught US Tour” w/ Belphegor, Suffocation, Abiotic

New Album ‘UNUS’ Out October 18, 2019 via Season of Mist

NECRONOMICON announce they will be hitting the road for “A Relentless Onslaught US Tour” with Belphegor, Suffocation, and Abiotic. The 26 date tour kicks off on October 24th in Sauget, IL and will end on November 23rd in Reading, PA. The Canadian premier blackened death metallers are back this year with their upcoming album “UNUS” due out October 18th via Season of Mist to follow their crushing and cinematic 2016’s “Advent of the Human God”. With each record NECRONOMICON has created in the span of their 31-year career, the band has steadily evolved in both sound and power; ‘UNUS’ is no exception to this.

Rob The Witch adds:

“Necronomicon is proud to go on the road with long-time friends Suffocation and of course cult german dark band Belphegor. We shared the stage with both of these bands in the past but only on a 1 off or festivals, so very excited to do all these American dates with them. See you all in October/November US fans.”

NECRONOMICON‘s new album ‘UNUS’ is a searing cacophony of blistering riffs, machine-like drums, and a symphonic ambiance, culminating in a sound that calls to various metal icons such as DIMMU BORGIR, SEPTICFLESH, BEHEMOTH, and DEICIDE. The record combines the furious elements of death metal with the orchestral prowess of black metal, creating the perfect synthesis of both genres. Standout tracks like ‘Paradise Lost’ and ‘Singularis Dominus’ only solidify NECRONOMICON’s ability to continuously produce high-quality metal that’s just as dark and brutal as it is elegant.

Singles:
‘Singularis Dominus’ here.
‘Paradise Lost’ here.

‘UNUS’ is due out October 18th via Season of Mist and can be pre-ordered here.

About:
Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s legendary grimoire, NECRONOMICON formed in 1988 by founding guitarist and singer Rob “The Witch” in the deep, northern part of Canadian province Quebec, Fjord of Saguenay. NECRONOMICON have a well-earned reputation for quality by releasing material only when ready and satisfied with the outcome ever since their demo entitled ‘Morbid Ritual’ (1992) firmly established their name within the underground. ‘The Silver Key”EP (1996) led to mainstream recognition on a national level, but their debut album ‘Pharaoh Of Gods” (1999) and the sophomore ‘The Sacred Medicines’ (2003) did even more to establish the band as a household name in Canada.‘Return Of The Witch’ (2010) marked the international break-through for NECRONOMICON, and saw them performing at prestigious festivals such as Inferno (Norway), Ragnarok (Germany), and the Barge To Hell metal cruise among others, while sharing stages with acts such as CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR, BEHEMOTH, and MORBID ANGEL, to name but a few. Their steady advance around the globe grew considerably in impact by their next full-length “Rise Of The Elder Ones” (2013). By the time the band released ‘Advent Of The Human God’ (2016), they were met with international critical acclaim. Now, with ‘Unus’ out October 18, 2019, the band show that they aren’t slowing down and are ready to deliver another vicious strike! Prepare for the darkness to envelop you. In 2019, NECRONOMICON was presented with a certificate of honor for over 30 years of service via H.S. production/Tommy Tremblay, and the people of Saguenay Lac-St-Jean, making them the second band after VOIVOD to ever receive this honor.

– 30 –

“Best moments of BEHEMOTH and symphonic death à la GODFLESH APOCALYPSE while remaining entirely Necronomicon.” – Bravewords

“Advent of the Human God is a truly diverse album, perfectly balancing plenty of atmosphere with their iconic chugging riffs and pummelling blast beats.” – Exclaim!

“Advent of the Human God boasts both a Behemoth-like epic savage grace and Dimmu-esque orchestral pomp. But it also delivers a more primal ferocity and maintains the thematic air that has become Necronomicon’s forte” – Metal Rules

“”Their sound is akin to an Anti-Christ infant spawned from the blasphemous union of Dimmu Borgir and Behemoth.”” – Metal Underground

“The drums crash like Nordic avalanches on tracks like “Alchemy of the Avatar.” With its blazing jugular seeking guitar riffs and crazed piano breaks over top double kick drum insanity, this last song makes for a perfect ending to a blistering listen.” – Beatroute (AB)

“‘Necronomicon opened the show with a thoroughly impressive display of symphonic death metal… The best way to describe them would be a symphonic version of Winds of Creation-era Decapitated, with perhaps some Vital Remains mixed in. Lots of cool grooves and hair spinning moments!’” – Metal Injection (Live Review)

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 19, 2019

For fans of Emperor, Death, Morbid Angel, Immortal, Goatwhore

Winnipeg Cosmic Black Metal CELL New Video ‘The Wailing Sea Of Emptiness’ Off Upcoming Album Out October 2019

New Album ‘Ancient Incantations Of Xarbos’ Out October 4th

Cosmic black metal trio CELL have prepared a new album “Ancient Incantations Of Xarbos” to continue their dramatic and theatrical storytelling in their conceptual science fiction universe. Following up their debut 2016 album ‘The Frozen Moon Of Erebath’ the next chapter will be available on October 4, 2019.

Taking place on a planet called Xarbos, two races collide over different ways of life. The listener can expect to be pummelled with blast beats and speed and put into a hypnotic doomy trance while floating through an atmospheric and cosmic cleans. CELL goes into the details of the story the album follows:

“Each track has its own story in the album that leads to one big ending which is the decimation of the Xarbonite hierarchy. In the story, there are two races of beings on this planet: one race chose to rise with power, tech, money and the lower race is actually the oldest of Xarbos and know the ways of the land and its magic. There are a few side stories within the album that trail off but still, stay within the main story.”

Following in the footsteps of classic bands like Emperor, Death, Morbid Angel, and Immortal, CELL have become weavers of the arcane adding a theatrical stage show to their modern take on black metal. The single ‘The Wailing Sea Of Emptiness’ is a prime launching pad to travel through Xarbos on this audio journey. Cell explains the story of the track:

“This song is about the lower race crossing the wailing sea to get to the valley of Assimilation. Within the valley, there is a wormhole that can transport any being to the realm of the Frost King. Long ago before the higher race started taking over, everyone was in harmony and lived together as one. Over the years fewer people believed in the gods of the old world and the
god of gods grew tired of this and trapped all the souls of non-believers”

‘The Wailing Sea Of Emptiness’ can be experienced via its premiere on Anti Christ Magazine HERE.

Bio:

Cell is a three-piece conceptual black metal band that formed in 2014 reigning from Winnipeg, Canada. They blend elements of old school and modern black metal with hints of death metal, hardcore, thrash, and doom to create reality-altering unrelenting cosmic black metal. Their concept is based on a science fiction comic book idea that Hyperion (guitar/vocals) was working to bring to life, but decided instead to turn into music.

Each song starts with Hyperion taking the reins by writing the song structure, riffs, and lyrics; Deimos (bass/vocals) and Hypnos (drums) adding in their preferences for riffs, lyrics and other such things to alter the songs for the better. There is a lot of cathartic emotion put into each song that connects to each member on a personal level while keeping within the dark sci-fi concept and using metaphors of what we as humans do to this planet and the life on it.

Using these topics, it’s easy for Cell to let everything out on stage every during every performance. They use a lot of art and theatre within the live show including using corpse paint, blood, armor, pro audio lights, and lasers. To see our show is to experience something emotional, aggressive, theatrical and cosmic.

Cell has toured across Canada multiple times and have been featured on several festivals including Black Mourning Light, Loud As Hell Metalfest, Armstrong Metalfest and Manitoba Metalfest sharing the stage with the likes of Skeletonwitch, Goatwhore, DRI, Revocation, and Aggression. They released their debut album ‘The Frozen Moon Of Erebath’ in 2016 and follow it up in 2019 with ‘Ancient Incantations Of Xarbos’.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 18, 2019

For fans of Macabre, At The Gates, Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, Psychological Horror Metal / Death Metal / Murder Metal

TALES OF THE TOMB Premiere Lyric Video For “The Nightmare Hall”
New EP “Volume Two: Mendacium” September 27th

Tales Of The Tomb (L-R): Trez Thomas (Guitar and Vocals), Corey Skerlak (Guitar and Vocals)

Every town has stories to caution or warn, every police officer has a seen a crime that keeps them awake at night, and every coroner has seen death in ways that the rest of us could never imagine. Murder, conspiracy, supernatural horror, and real-life terror are stains on the cutting room floor where Edmonton-based group Tales of The Tomb paints their canvas.

Tales of The Tomb will release their new EP “Volume Two: Mendicium” September 27th. “Volume Two: Mendicium” is a collection of narratives surrounding government cover-ups, national lies and the heinous crimes committed amongst the shadows.  The album was mixed and mastered by Cryptopsy guitar player and Head Engineer/Owner at The Grid Studios Christian Donaldson. The EP also contains a bonus track about the Japanese horror film Mermaid in a Manhole. Featuring artwork by Tony Midi of Tonymidi Artworks.  Pre-order the album HERE.

Today the band has teamed up with Metal Insider for an exclusive premiere of the lyric video for “The Nightmare Hall”.  Watch it HERE.

Unified by the desire to have the grotesque power of 90’s era death and murder metal, Tales of The Tomb started as a thought that grew into an insatiable need to make extreme music.  Tales Of The Tomb was created in October 2013 from founder Corey Skerlak (Guitar, Vocals) out of inspiration from the original murder metal band Macabre.

Much of their inspiration is drawn from the hideous crimes and conspiracies of the world. Retelling stories of the dark hidden secrets and victims from such crimes. This was the inspiration for the name Tales of The Tomb.

A sonic attack layered with grinding blast beats, injected with menacing guttural lows — a sound straight from hell with gore-filled lyrics leaving little to the imagination, destroying your eardrums like a corpse is erased in an acid-filled bath.

EP pre-order is available on Bandcamp here.

Track Listing:
1. The Nightmare Hall (4:05)
2. Faul (3:02)
3. The Sinful Messiah (4:14)

“RIYL: Serial killers and death metal. Now, many of you may think the two already go hand in hand, but new dimensions of depravity are opened when you take the murderous criminals Macabre and Church of Misery have been glorifying forever and backdrop it with noise more akin to Cannibal Corpse Fist-****ing At The Gates. Or Vice Versa.” – Decibel Magazine

“It’s got a European death metal feel to it, and while it’s definitely heavy, it’s centerpiece is a melodic guitar solo. If the rest of the EP, out on November 27th, is anything like the first taste of it, signals Tales of the Tomb as a band we’ll be hearing more – Metal Insider

“Grooves entwine and work their way under the skin like toxic vines, whilst the body of the song strolls with a deceitful calm as much hued in more classic metal essences as it is in death metal voracity.” – RingMaster Review

“Volume One: Morpras stands as a melodic treat fans of cold sounding death metal, melodic or otherwise, will definitely get a kick out of.” – Apochs Metal Review

Edmonton’s Black Mastiff are blasting off to ‘Star Base 77’ with their new animated music video in support of their forthcoming album “Loser Delusions” due out on October 18, 2019 via Grand Hand Records. The video’s animation was created by Black Mastiff‘s own vocalist/guitarist Bobby Yiannakoulias.

“As a songwriter, this track is about us all being insignificant in the world while we’re so obsessed with whether or not we get likes “Hope the station knows that I’ve arrived”. The guitar, drums, and bass are working together with a very precise heavy heating march. That’s how we do our thing. When singing this song I thought a lot about Bobby Liebling and Blue Cheer doing “Summertime Blues”. As a filmmaker, I love animation and movies old rotoscope movies like ‘The Hobbit’ from 1977.I tried to draw from that style but with an added sense of humour.” says Yiannakoulias.

The animated video can be viewed via its exclusive premiere on Outlaws of The Sun HERE.

Ready to put listeners into a fuzzy mood with their signature groove with their new album ‘Loser Delusions’, this latest release from Black Mastiff explores new territories, with distinctive, thick sounds and soulful vocals that are immediately recognizable.

“Loser Delusions” is much more eclectic than their previous record, “Music Machine”, and shows the band is comfortable stepping outside of the expected. With “Loser Delusions”, the band is inviting fans on a musical journey that passes through all things rock n’ roll, from garage to prog, there are many influences that Black Mastiff has not previously tapped into that are present on this new album.

Fans of Deep Purple, Queens of The Stone Age, Black Keys, and Kyuss, Black Mastiff is a blizzard of distortion that will be experienced in full on October 18, 2018 through all music platforms.

In additional news, Black Mastiff will be hitting the road to promote the new album for the ‘Tourgether At Last’ with label mates Calgary’s Chron Goblin. The Canadian tour will be kicking off in Lethbridge, AB on October 10th and head east towards Montreal, QC to then circle back out west to wrap up on October 25th in Edmonton, AB.

Bio:

Edmonton’s Black Mastiff (Bob Yiannakoulias, Clay Shea, Allan Harding) is a band built around lifelong friendships and having fun, a vibe they’ve extended to both their porous, heavy, and vigorous live performance, and their recordings.

With their third full-length album Loser Delusions (Fall 2019), keeping it together became a literal priority. During the four years since their well-received Music Machine (New Damage Records, 2015), recorded and beautifully produced at Thunder Underground Studio in the desert of Palm Springs with John Garcia (Kyuss, Vista Chino), the trio had to change their perception of how a band operates. Already Renaissance men and entrepreneurs in other life ventures, when facing unforeseen challenges the band sharpened their production and business know-how by starting their own label, Grand Hand, with tour mates Chron Goblin. When drummer Allan moved to Vancouver, they decided to see how distance apart could add to, rather than take away from, their creative process and sound. The result is a determined continuation of what they do best, with a voyaging out into new sonic territory.

– 30 –

“This one rises above the ultra-crowded stoner rock genre with its seriously ’70s vibe, cool and lazy vocal delivery, warm production and adherence to the riff over everything else.”  – Exclaim

“Black Mastiff is a power trio that creates their own version of stoner rock. They take a super heavy riff for a ride and explore a groove with a heavy rhythmic infra-structure and beautiful melodic vocals that bear the influence of the sounds of the desert.”  – Coachella Valley Weekly

“I’m a fan of music….when you hear music that makes you feel….well, that’s what Black Mastiff did for me…they made me feel…… there was just something there. When music makes you feel anything, anything at all. Happy, sad, takes you back…I don’t care who it is. I don’t care if it’s Earth, Wind or Fire, Motley Crue, if it draws out deep emotion, I become a fan. I became a fan of Black Mastiff when Bruno Fevery and I caught their set….So much so, that I covered one of their songs on my new solo album.” – John Garcia-(KYUSS, Slo Burn, Vista Chino)
“I saw them in Edmonton, Canada. They have such a unique take on music and just when you think you know where it’s gonna go, they take it somewhere completely unexpected….some of their songs remind me of a modern version of The Doors whether they see it or not.” –  John Garcia – (KYUSS, Slo Burn, Vista Chino)

Set to drop their debut EP “Pre-Meditated” on Friday, September 20th, 2019, Ottawa’s TripleMurder is here to make listeners question what they think about pigeonholing bands into sub-genres by offering everything from chunky groovy riffs, blast beats, to breakdowns and two-steps along with everything in between. They refuse to be set into one specific genre and consistently break rules over the course of their debut six-song EP. From their track ‘Eyes Of Judgement’ being a homage to their hardcore/death metal roots with a melodic spin to their song ‘Boogeyman’ being a more complex punch with intricate breakdowns and more experimental guitar and drum work. Their lyrical themes involve the state of the human race, politics and social media scares to just everyday life and human interactions. TripleMurder explains the release further:

“We believe that it should be received as a wake-up call to the metal industry that you don’t have to confine yourself to a certain subgenre of metal to write heavy tunes. It’s all about having fun and showing off everybody’s musical tastes in the band.”

The EP’s exclusive full stream is available today on Metal-Rules and can be heard at the following link HERE.

Pre-order of “Pre-Meditated” is available on Bandcamp and TripleMurder.com plus streaming on Spotify.

Plus check out their assaulting music video ‘Cannibalistic’ https://youtu.be/XTofU04B23I

Musically, the track (Crawl) is a mix of seething guitar bursts and brutish pounding grooves, jagged jabbing chords and squirming arpeggios, vicious shrieks and carnivorous roars. It’s part racing melee and part methodical, pile-driving punishment. It also includes a fluid yet freakish guitar solo that spirals upward in mad ecstasy, as well as clean vocals intermixed with the cacophony of harsh roaring and screaming in a way that lends a sorrowful dimension to the music, and you’ll come to a closing sequence that will provide good exercise for your neck and a good clobbering for your skull. (The song includes guest vocals by Eric Forget of A Scar For the Wicked.)” – No Clean Singing

“The biggest problem with this EP is quite simply that it is far too short. What we have here is a brutal album oozing with passion. Each song has a really nice evolution that keeps each song fresh and never falling into overbearing repetition. There is also a variety of styles shown off here that is great to hear.” – Uber Rock

“Never to be put in a box or pigeon holed, TripleMurder uses their heavy eclectic sound to produce variety and diversity. There is a lot that TripleMurder has to offer within their six track EP titled Pre-Meditated. From groove filled riffs, to heavy break downs, to searing solos, to varied vocals and more, TripleMurder packs this EP to the bursting point. Through six offerings, Pre-Meditated provides a wickedly heavy yet entirely memorable and entertaining listen.” – Cadaver Garden

“With tunes such as “Boogieman”, “Sacrifice” and “Ready to Bleed”, this EP rocks hard and heavy from start to finish.” – The Metal Channel

“With bolstered yells, thrashing guitars, and a tasteful blend of both modern and metal sounds Pre-Meditated, the debut EP of TripleMurder, shows a promising future for the Canadian metal band.” – Boston Rock Radio

Montreal Progressive Death MESSORA Unleash Second Single ‘The Pond’ Off Upcoming Album ‘The Door’

In anticipation of their upcoming album “The Door”, Montreal’s MESSORA have released their second single ‘The Pond’.

“The Door” is constantly shifting between genres, and creates a visceral atmosphere that can’t be confined to a single category, be prepared to hear death, melodic, doom and progressive elements throughout the seven tracks on the album. Looking to challenge listeners, MESSORA presents an album that requires attention and an open mind, as Zach Dean quotes:

“I am trying to present fans with a record that you listen to front to back and come out of feeling different. Maybe not even different, maybe just more like yourself. The album as a whole is very varied musically while remaining focused and tight. It’s very clearly a metal album but you can hear that we want to go to different places and incorporate different influences throughout the record. Most of the songs are very long and have very complicated structures and changes, but it’s always meant to feel right and musical rather than abrupt and meaningless.”

Among the proggy, more experimental tracks on the album, ‘The Pond’ is an introspective and tense journey that is slower than the other offerings on the record. Dean explains:

“I wanted this song to be more slow, atmospheric and short that the other songs on the record, and I stuck to this idea while I was writing it. This track is very interesting to me because I didn’t think that something like this would end up on the record. It started as a 12-minute monstrosity in the same vein as The Veil and The Falling Star, but I ended up scrapping most of it and just kept about a fifth of the ideas and turned them into this more atmospheric and slow cut. The lyrics take place in the new “world” that you finally fall into after entering The Door.”

Any metal lover who craves proggy and dark music especially along the lines of Opeth, Psycroptic, and Gojira will find MESSORA to their liking.

‘The Pond’ is streaming via an exclusive premiere on MetalUniverse.net HERE.

Bio:

Formed as a solo recording project in 2016 in Montréal, Québec, Messora has become a band that obscures and challenges genres. To the band, the music comes as what feels best in the moment. To the fans, it is a kaleidoscope of sound that appears different at every glance and to every eye.

Messora has been described as Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash Metal, Progressive Metal, Melodic Metal, and Doom Metal by fans and showgoers. The elements that make up the music may seem familiar to some, yet the whole remains a challenge to define.

The band knows how to set themselves apart from others musically as well as aesthetically, with showmanship and presentation second only to musical performance during their live show. They demand attention with their presentation but keep it with the strength of their performance and musicianship. Having shared the stage with bands such as Carach Angren, Mors Principium Est, and Wolfheart, Messora always delivers, visually, aesthetically and musically.

– 30 –

“Combining a variety of genres, the group made good impressions on those who shows up early with their tight musicianship and ability to change pace on a moment’s notice” – Apt 613

“… Messora was a whirlwind on stage. It was hard to believe that a half hour had passed when they began to play their final song, as each song had layered onto each other leaving viewers with a feeling that the experience was almost surreal.”- Splice Media Group

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 17, 2019

For fans of Between The Buried & Me, Devin Townsend, Tool, Thank You Scientist

Edmonton’s SLEEPING IN TRAFFIC Release Mathematical Second Single “(√-π)÷0=1 (The Equation)”

Double EP Release For ‘That Which Saves Us’ and ‘That Which Destroys Us’ Out Sept 27th

L-R: Ryan Berehulke – Bass, Cory Bosse – Vocals/Synth, Greg Turner – Guitar, Andrew Bateman – Drums

Later this month, Edmonton’s SLEEPING IN TRAFFIC will release their dual EPs “That Which Saves Us” and “That Which Destroys Us”; the duality of these two complementary yet dramatically different EPs are shown through two singles, the second being  ‘(√-π)÷0=1 (The Equation)’ off of “That Which Destroys Us”.

As the darker side of the double EPs, SLEEPING IN TRAFFIC keeps it heavy with their distinctive weirdness, as they put it:

“This EP displays more of the band’s extreme metal influences, without abandoning some of the weirdness the band is known for. The album continues to explore odd time signatures and polyrhythms in the context of heavily distorted guitars, snarling synths, and guttural vocals.”

The single itself is a complicated arrangement that is as bizarre as the track title for anyone with an understanding of mathematics. This is intentional says they band, and they continue:

“It is an attempt at a comparison of what it feels like to be forced to stand on equal footing next to people who lack any sense of logic or rationality, and to have to argue with them in the public discourse as if their worldview is somehow just as valid. The music features shifting time signatures, riffs that play in reverse, and a massive, crushing, synth-reinforced breakdown at its core.”

With influences such as Between the Buried and Me, Devin Townsend, and Opeth, SLEEPING IN TRAFFIC make no accommodations when it comes to crushing music. Listeners can hear for themselves ‘(√-π)÷0=1 (The Equation)’ via its exclusive premiere on PureGrainAudio.com HERE.

The EPs will be available on September 27, 2019 and available for pre-order on Bandcamp.

SLEEPING IN TRAFFIC‘s first single ‘Exoplanets’ can be streamed here.

Track Listing:
1. Through Method And Rigor (4:43)
2. Fungal Symbiosis (feat. Elle T.) (3:50)
3. Exoplanets (feat. Elle T.) (6:09)
4. False Alternatives (5:13)
5. The Scrupulous Study Of Everything (5:41)
EP Length: 25:38

Bio:

Based out of Edmonton, Canada, Sleeping In Traffic is a progressive metal band whose artistic vision is built around the concept of change. Nothing in the band’s music is intended to remain static. Each album and performance brings new adaptations and innovations; always playing with the sonic possibilities.

Influenced by the likes of Between The Buried and Me, Devin Townsend, and Porcupine Tree, they have been manifesting dynamic, and ever-evolving music since 2014. Sleeping In Traffic released their debut self titled EP in 2014 and the full length ‘Feminism’ in 2017 that is a guitar-driven hard rock/metal concept album that borrows heavily from ska, jazz, pop-punk, and classic prog rock. They have graced many stages in Western Canada including performances at Alberta’s Farmaggedon Metal Fest (2015) and Edmonton’s Shredmonton (2016/17).

Sleeping In Traffic is releasing two new EPs in 2019, ‘That Which Saves Us’ and ‘That Which Will Destroy Us’ each with a different character. One explores the darker, heavier metal influences of the band, while the other channels the more upbeat side to their music. Synthesizers will form a core element to both of these releases due on September 27, 2019.

Sleeping in Traffic consists of four members, each with their own unique and eclectic musical tastes, which influence their contributions to the band.

Greg Turner’s unusual approach to guitar is a core element of Sleeping In Traffic’s music. Stuttered, chaotic time signatures and bizarre chord voices in catchy patterns flow from his fingers to form the basis of many of the songs. His use of a multitude of pedals adds colourful timbres and occasionally acts as their own instrument.

Ryan Berehulke carves out a thundering obelisk of depth from his 5-string bass and his tower of speakers. His style is definitive in a way that meshes perfectly with the guitars to provide a wall of reinforcement, yet often also takes the main stage, without ever abandoning the supreme role as the band’s foundation. His ingenuity in his approach to bass playing is indispensable; from the funky groove and raw, pounding roars; all the way to evolving, ambient textures.

Andrew Bateman is a mad scientist behind a drum-kit. With his intricate knowledge of rhythms, he weaves complex patterns in and around the eccentric time signatures that the music follows. His array of styles ranges from pulverizing metal to pattering, offbeat jazz and everything in between. He is always searching for novel rhythmic cadences and new ways to strike the same drums. He is highly technical, yet playful; often improvising on the spot and testing the limits of his fellow musicians.

Cory Bosse acts as the voice of the band, as well as the source of many of its most unexpected sounds. His bombastic singing style has its roots in the metal music that originally inspired him to make music, yet weaves in a multitude of techniques from the myriad of styles he has explored since. Operatic vibratos flow into passionate howls, jazz scat collapses into death growls, and beat boxing meanders into throat singing in a pandemonium of vocal exploration. To help compliment each song’s particular character, he harnesses the power of a host of instruments, including keys, saxophone, synthesizers, and guitar.

– 30 –

“The 9-track record comes with a focused story-telling, remarkable songwriting and with an offer of something that separates them from the bigger part of the prog gang. The band is not shy to explore within pop, indie rock or alternative and fuse these elements with sound-defining progressive rock and metal influences.” – Prog-Sphere

“Feminism possesses great balance between the up-beat rock tunes polished with rock’s progressive and alternative subgenres, but what this album shows is talent of the band which certainly can bring something epic. Until then, let Feminism shows itself in its full brilliance.” – Progzilla

“sound more like their fellow countrymen Protest the Hero, albeit with a sax in the mix of things. Their overall style is the same careening prog metal that PtH are good at… For a debut album, I am impressed with “Feminism.”… I think Sleeping in Traffic have potential, so they are worth following.” – Progressive Music Planet

BIO:

And it all began with the rope dancer….

Formed in July 2010, The Flaying is a death metal band based in Quebec City, Canada that focuses on fluid melodic construction of songs featuring brutal sections which are further complemented by vocals with both low end growls and hateful high pitches.

Since their first release Unhope (2014), Seb, Did, Wil and Mike are forging ahead in order to adopt a more brutal approach: adding new grooves, a greater velocity, and creating a wider ambiance as well as keeping breakdowns and progressive parts with counterpoints constructing a main theme of anger and a general hate of humanity.

Soldiering on with the philosophy of one band, four individuals, four personalities to collide, the writing process is a team effort initially seeing the band collaborate on riffs and groove ideas, adding a flourish of low-end colors, and blending the whole thing together with flying vocals that create a manifest of pure mayhem. This product of this steadfast diablerie will be realized on March 22, 2019, when the second album “Angry, Undead” is unleashed on PRC Music.

– 30 –

“Le guitariste Didier Samson se fait déjà appeler «Maître» dans sa profession d’avocat criminaliste, mais c’est au titre de «maîtres du métal» que lui et ses trois acolytes du groupe death metal The Flaying aspirent avec leur deuxième album Angry, Undead qui paraît le 22 mars sur l’étiquette émergente PRC Music. The guitarist Didier Samson is already called “Master” in his profession of criminal lawyer, but it is under the title of “masters of the metal” that he and his three acolytes of the death metal band The Flaying aspire with their second album Angry, Undead which appears March 22 on the emerging label PRC Music.” – Le Soleil: The Flaying: Maîtres du métal:

“True to the band’s name, the music of The Flaying will slash the skin from your face in paroxysms of blood-spraying savagery. But it does more than that. It will also suck the air from your lungs, boil the brain, and hammer your bones into fragments fine enough to blow away in the wind.” – No Clean Singing

“Angry, Undead is quite a number, I am really digging these addictive and mesmerizing death metal tunes and I am quite sure most of you technical and progressive death metal fans out there will feel the same about this album once you have checked this out. The Flaying is definitely a band to keep an eye and an ear on!” – Lords of Metal

“Solid and thoroughly enjoyable, The Flaying make a name for themselves on their second album. Angry, Undead is never at a loss for momentum and rage, and still manages to tickle your ears with its massive grooves and musical prowess.” – Dead Rhetoric

“It is a savage, brutish and barbaric death metal album emphasized by the nasty groove of Elegy of Emptiness and the booming Angry, Unleashed. A fine addition to any death metal fan’s collection.” – Games, Brrrains & A Head-Banging Life

Calgary fuzz lords Chron Goblin are streaming their third single ‘Ghost’ off their upcoming album “Here Before” set to be unveiled on September 27, 2019 via Grand Hand Records.

Teaming up with Revolver Magazine the track’s exclusive premiere can be heard at the following link HERE.

Drummer Brett Whittingham adds:

“When we were writing ‘Ghost’, it felt like we were experimenting with new musical territory than we usually find ourselves writing in. Darty uses a different guitar tuning than we typically play in and both the guitar and bass are very resonant, droning, and psychedelic-trance-like. The drums are also a different approach than we typically take, cycling a busier syncopated rhythm during the verses to balance the trancy effect of the guitar and bass. The phrases are longer and drawn out in a rolling fashion, almost meditative. There’s also some interesting percussion on this track – a sack of change on a snare during the choruses, subtle piano chords as well as light, tickly piano licks during the interlude. In addition, Josh came up with a really great vocal melody that’s also a bit outside of his typical approach. Josh and I had been listening to GOAT’s World Music album a lot around the time of writing this track and were both influenced by that album in our approach to Ghost.”

Rock and sludge combine into a mix that set CHRON GOBLIN apart from other bands in the genre and after 10 years, they have perfected crafting their tunes that have been enjoyed around the world. Kerrang has noted them as one of “The 20 Canadian bands you need to know right now”. CHRON GOBLIN bring an exciting energy that can be felt throughout their new album “Here Before” along with being truly witnessed live. Fans of Red Fang, Kyuss, and Orange Goblin will strongly enjoy!

Guitarist Devin ‘Darty’ Purdy gives insight:

“With any Chron Goblin album you can expect heavy riffs, soaring vocals, and thunderous drums!  What sets this album apart is that it’s a bit more refined and mature – probably as a result of doing this for 10 years!  We also experimented quite a bit with our sound on tracks like ‘Ghost’, ‘Slipping Under’, and ‘Giant’ which moved away from our traditional Chron Goblin sound and added in more dynamics and melody.  The vocals really stand out on ‘Here Before’ and demonstrate a more melodic sound than previous albums.  We feel this album will be enjoyed by our long term fans while giving them a sense of a new sound and direction in addition to the classic ‘full steam onslaught riff attack’.”

Album pre-order is available on Bandcamp here.

In additional news, CHRON GOBLIN will be hitting the road to promote the new album for the “Tourgether At Last” with label mates Edmonton’s BLACK MASTIFF. The Canadian tour will be kicking off in Lethbridge, AB on October 10th and head east towards Montreal, QC to then circle back out west to wrap up on October 25th in Edmonton, AB.

Bio:

From the dusty coulees of Alberta’s Badlands to the jagged peaks of the snow-capped Rockies, the musical entity known as Chron Goblin is a true force of nature. Yet there’s simply no reckoning the immensity of the sound that these hard rockin’ Calgarians are capable of generating once they hit the stage boards. Grind-ing it out in the trenches and pits of venues and festivals across North America and Europe since 2009, the fuzz clad foursome knows no bounds when it comes to laying down the rugged riffage and cranking up the volume on a sweet Southern rock-tinged blues-metal breakdown. Surrender to the smoke show, heed the call of the Chron and inhale the melodious commotion churned up by the Goblins. The botanically-infused gin in your work-a-day tonic, Chron Goblin will obliterate those vexing worries and liberate your immortal soul.

Recorded in July 2018 at Juno Award Winning OCL Studios, ‘Here Before’ is the fourth full-length album from Chron Goblin and will be released and distributed by Grand Hand Records. Produced, recorded and mixed by Josh Rob Gwilliam (Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, Ghosts of Modern Man), Here Before demonstrates a new maturity in songwriting and production for the band. From the propulsive singles of ‘Slipping Under’ and ‘Ghost’; mixed by Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Metallica, Corrosion of Conformity), to the hypnotic riffs of ‘Oblivion’ – Chron Goblin has created an intoxicating collection of rock n’ roll.

(Bio written by Christine Leonard)

“What the band have in spades that sets them apart from the usual weed-worshipping crew is energy, giving even their stonier material enough oomph to keep them from lethargically ripping off Sabbath. “ – Kerrang Magazine

“ Fun, fast, and surprisingly slick” – VICE/ Noisey

“These guys caught my ear right away because in the local market there are precious few bands playing this style of hard Rocking Metal. Sonically this has groove, rock and some sludge written all over it. A certain sense of fun pervades all the tracks, energy creativity and a spirit of rock and roll.” –  Metal-Rules.com

“It is no wonder why so many respected bands have took them under their wing. This is a band to keep your eyes firmly locked on” – The Sludgelord

“The band’s love of the riff is highly in evidence, wrapped around a classic rock sensibility that, for once, sits well with the more obvious stoner and desert rock influences upon which the band have historically built their reputation.” – Ghost Cult Magazine

“While too many fuzz bands forget either how to be heavy or how to have fun, Chron Goblin shows a near mastery of these important concepts “ – New Noise Magazine
