Canada’s Illuminated Minerva have a spacey full-length album “Enigma Adamantine” dropping on September 25, 2020, and a music video for the first single “Sightings”.

The band released an EP “The Immaculate Deception” in 2014 and this new album, while touching on similar concepts, embraces longer songs, a more technical edge, and a higher production value. With a little bit of everything genre-wise, except vocals, Illuminated Minerva takes the listener on a ride through space and conspiracies theories guided by archived audio clips. Illuminate Minerva shares their take on the album:

“’Enigma Adamantine’ is an instrumental progressive metal album based around conspiracy, UFOs, and abductions. A musical examination of modern mythology laid out with hard-hitting bass grooves, technical guitar lines, soaring leads, and complex drumming matched with audio from years past present an auditory mirror reflecting our deepest fears and questions yet to be answered. An album experience as unique as the stories within.”

The album, as a concept album, is written to be listened to as a whole in chronological order where the themes can flow from one song to another. Each track does carry its own weight, the first single “Sightings” being no exception. The second track on the album is the song for those who ‘want to believe’! Odd time signatures, throbbing bass, and first-hand accounts of unknown aircraft frame the question of ‘are we alone?’.

The progressive and melodic instrumental quartet suits a wide variety of people, especially fans of Tool, Scale the Summit, and Intronaut.

The music video for “Sightings” is available via its premiere on SonicPerspectives HERE.

The full album will be released on September 25, 2020.

Album pre-order on Bandcamp.

About:

Illuminated Minerva is a technical, progressive metal band, from Calgary, Canada. Brothers Nathan Bourgeault (guitar) and Jordon Bourgeault (drums) were both musicians growing up and eventually started their first project Sequoia, the beginning of their musical collaboration. Eventually, they moved on to form Illuminated Minerva, with a goal to push the musical boundaries further.

Rounding the lineup out is local scene veteran Matt Petti (bass) who played with drummer Jordon Bourgeault in Verbal Deception; and Pat Lawtey (guitar) who played with the international act Kobra and the Lotus.

The bond between brothers and former bandmates results in a very natural writing process for the progressive metal quartet. Knowing what works and what doesn’t comes easily and allows the band to intertwine astral riffs, and technical harmonies highlighted by the absence of vocals. Combined with archived audio clips the result is oratory artistic storytelling taking the listener through space and time, exploring conspiracies and unanswered questions.

With a captivating and visceral live show, the seasoned musicians of Illuminated Minerva have played with a host of bands locally including Tesseract, Intronaut, and Cloudkicker. In 2014, the band released their debut EP “The Immaculate Deception” and are following it up in 2020 with a full length “Enigma Adamantine” due out Sept 25th.

“The drums provide an off-kilter atomic clock, complete with jazzy accents and jackhammer snare, the guitars shred and squeal. It’s thought provoking, musically captivating, and will inspire the curious among you to do some research.” – Beatroute

“There is an almost feral quality to their work, and when they all hit it hard, it is intense.” – The Western Front

Calgary, Canada’s Red Cain will be continuing their “Kindred” saga with the release of “Kindred: Act II” this coming October to follow their debut album’s “Kindred Act: I”, which the band is proud to announce has been nominated for a YYC Music Award for Metal Recording The Year for the single “Juliet” ft. Daniel Louden of Benevolent Like Quietus.

The band was nominated alongside Gone Cosmic, Hyperia, Illyrian, and Metavore. A full list of nominees can be found here. In keeping with social distancing guidelines, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and to ensure the community stays safe and healthy, the YYC Music Awards are making plans to move this year’s gala to an online, streaming format, on September 20, 2020. More info at https://yycmusicawards.com.

2020 – YYCMA Metal Recording of The Year:
Gone Cosmic – “Sideways In Time”
HYPERIA – “Insanitorium”
Illyrian – “The Entity, Unknown”
METAVORE – “Becoming”
Red Cain – “JULIET [feat. Daniel Louden]”

The band comments on their nomination:

“We are extremely honoured to be nominated for the YYCMA Metal Recording of the Year for the 3rd time with our track “Juliet [feat. Daniel Louden]”. This was a favourite song of ours to write – a goth rock anthem that in many ways highlights our sound – and it became quite the collaboration. We invited Daniel Louden of Calgary band Benevolent Like Quietus to sing alongside our vocalist Evgeniy Zayarny, and first featured Tyler Corbett (on bass from our good friends Osyron) – who has taken up the lead guitar and production duties on our upcoming album “Kindred: ACT II”. We also worked with Calgary director and friend Rik Zak to film our “Juliet” music film, which has to date won 7 international awards.

This song was truly hosted by a cornucopia of local talent. We can’t thank enough the wonderful organizers of the YYC Music Awards, who’ve made this the premier music event in Calgary, but also all the local bands, musicians, journalists, venues – everyone involved with the Calgary and Canadian music scene. It’s difficult terrain right now, but celebrating each other’s achievements and pushing on is how all great stories are written. And we are extremely proud that our own musical stories resonated enough within the scene to land us this nomination in 2020.”

Described as a vehicle of “Melancholy and Rage”, Red Cain recently unleashed two brand-new singles from their forthcoming album “Kindred: Act II” due out this October. The album continues the story of the warrior Zalcoatl and combines ancient myths and stories with a commentary on how these exist and apply in modern society.

The first single, “Sunshine (Blood Sun Empire)” is a djenty, aggressive, and thrashy Aztec-influenced concept track in the vein of Mastodon, detailing the protagonist Zalcoatl’s descent into an alien ziggurat. The second single, “Demons” is a demonic ritual and goth rock tour de force, it’s heavy, catchy, laden with a gothic drawl, dark lyrics, and electronic influences, the bastard child of Charon, Sisters of Mercy, and Lord of the Lost.

Both singles can be heard at the following links:

About:

Described as a vehicle of “Melancholy and Rage” and born out of the emerging music scene of Alberta, Canada, 2017 YYC Awards Metal Recording of the Year winner Red Cain is a power/progressive metal project with Russian roots. With intricate songwriting, a heavy yet melodic feel reminiscent of progressive acts, and elements of Slavic myth and Russian paganism in the storytelling tradition of the cult of Veles, Red Cain champion a fluid, dynamic, and unique musical style centered around telling dark, conceptual Faustian sagas and constructing those into an unforgettable live experience.

Stated by frontman Evgeniy Zayarny as wanting to bring back the “Devil’s music” mysticism all too often missing in modern metal acts, Red Cain delivers flair, groove, and an intricate, lethal edge in their music. Listeners might well pick out elements reminiscent of such luminary acts as Kamelot, Symphony X, Tesseract, Amaranthe, Alter Bridge – whipped into a venomous new shape. The current incarnation of the band is all of these influences mixed with a lot of vodka and Eastern European melancholy, shaken and stirred.

Red Cain released its debut self-titled EP in November 2016 to rave reviews from a variety of publications such as Dead Rhetoric, MetalUnderground, and Firewind magazine, among many others. Red Cain’s EP had the honour of winning Metal Recording of the Year at the 2017 YYC Music Awards. The band has a strong emerging fanbase around the world, being named one of the top 200 bands of 2016 by Headbangers Latinoamerica and the EP’s cover art selected as one of 2016’s 15 best by Metal Underground.

Red Cain’s first full-length album “Kindred: Act I” was released March 2019 to a variety of excellent reviews internationally, reaching #1 on Canadian Earshot Loud charts and establishing the band as a force in the Canadian metal scene, and landing the band a distribution deal with European label Sliptrick Records. A variety of festival appearances at Loud As Hell Metal Festival, Hyperspace Metal Festival, and Canada Wacken Competition have served to cement that status. Red Cain’s music videos for “JULIET” and “ZERO” have to date garnered 11 international film festival awards, including the Music Video Award at the Accolade Global Film Competition (LA). The band aims to deliver its follow-up to “Kindred: Act I” in 2020.

Vancouver’s Hyperspace Metal Festival III Postponed To 2021

Hyperspace Metal Festival Spotify Playlist here.

HMF 2020 Promo Video here.

It comes with saddening news today, the 2020 edition of Vancouver’s Hyperspace Metal Festival, organized by Journeyman Productions will be postponed to 2021. Slated to be held on the rescheduled dates of September 4th to 6th from its original date on April 17th to 19th, the premier Canadian melodic and power metal festival has decided to push the third edition to 2021 due to the uncertainty of COVID-19 pandemic provincial rules for event gatherings.

Journeyman Productions’ Joey Hockin explains:

“Well, the time has come to make the difficult decision that we all knew was coming. Hyperspace Metal Festival III will be postponed again to 2021. The exact dates and lineup will be announced once we have confirmation from the government that it is safe to proceed with a gathering of this size. Given the uncertain nature of COVID-19, we feel it is best to not reveal anything else until we know that the festival can happen. All ticket sales will be honoured at the new dates and the lineup will be mostly bands that have already been booked for the festival with probably a few new surprises. If you would like a refund, please send an email to info@rickshawtheatre.com. Thank you for your understanding and we hope you are staying safe!”

Over the two years that Hyperspace Metal Festival has been running, bands from all over the world have come to play power, prog, and speed metal on the west coast of Canada. The festival has presented line ups that have included performances by Crimson Shadows, West of Hell, Judicator, Odinfist, Ravenous, Helion Prime, Iron Kingdom, Apprentice, Tanagra, Scythia and many more.

Those interested in processing their ticket reimbursement for HFM III can email their request to info@rickshawtheatre.com.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – August 3, 2020

For fans of Tenacious D, Spinal Tap, Psychostick, Steel Panther

Comedic Rock Act Sons of Butcher Shares Covid-19 Music Video “Quaranteen”

New EP “Lockdown In Steeltown” Out Now

We’ve all been pent up stuck in our own little quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic and Canada’s most formidable “mock rock” band Sons of Butcher know exactly how you feel. That’s why they’ve created a new collection of tunes, aptly named “Lockdown In Steeltown”.

Today, SOB shares some visual comedic relief and empathy on how we are all raging inside from this present-day way of life. Today, they present their new music video “Quaranteen”, featuring vocalist/guitarist Ricky Butcher’s loss to insanity while living in his hilarious superficial prison.

Sons of Butcher’s Ricky Butcher adds:

“It’s summer in Steeltown, but a quarantine order has changed all of Ricky Butcher’s plans. This was the first song written for the ‘Lockdown In Steeltown’ EP. It was four days into the quarantine in March, during Earth Hour, I wrote this song on an acoustic by candlelight as a joke. I recorded it the next day and showed the boys. Little did I know this one song would spark the creation of an entire Sons of Butcher EP!”

Watch “Quaranteen” HERE.

Sons of Butcher‘s new EP “Lockdown In Steeltown” is the first release from the band in four years and comes right after the announcing that they will be creating a third season of their TV show with the entire original team that was previously aired on Teletoon in Canada.

Sons of Butcher wrote the EP in the spring right when quarantine measures were enforced around the world and it goes through some of the experiences that SOB would likely be facing during that time. Meant to be a distraction from all the craziness, Sons of Butcher explains the EP:

“This EP is a look into the lives of these cartoon rockers as they’re forced to lockdown in place in their hometown of Steeltown. Each character is coping in their own way and has their own song to express it.”

Singing about meat, sex, and everything in between, SOB are a mixed bag of rude unapologetic party rock from the bowels of Steeltown. Fans can expect much more from them as they are just ramping up and will be starting the new season of the show as soon as they complete the pilot.

Recommended for fans of Tenacious D, Spinal Tap, and Van Halen, Sons of Butcher‘s new EP “Lockdown In Steeltown” is available on Bandcamp, Spotify, and Apple Music.

BIO:
Sons of Butcher is a Canadian rock band consisting of four members, Ricky Butcher (vocals/guitar), Doug Borski (vocals, bass), Sol Butcher (vocals), Colin Van Ham Steak (lead guitar), and Sausage Ralph (drums).

Their music fuses vulgar absurdist comedy with rock music in a style that is described as “mock rock”.

Their band alter-egos are the focus of an animated television series developed by S&S Productions and aired on Canadian animation network Teletoon which follows the lives of two brothers who run a butcher shop. Butchers by day, rockers by night, the name ‘Sons of Butcher’ can also be taken literally as Ricky and Sol’s father was a butcher.

Admiring the comedy and rock fusion of bands like Tenacious D and Spinal Tap, the brothers came up with this idea in college around the year 2000. Passing a script off to one of the producers of the classic Canadian sitcom Red Green led to the show becoming a reality. After the first season aired, it became clear the fictitious band needed to come to life. Soon they were playing live shows and releasing albums.

Sons of Butcher has released 5 full lengths, Self-Titled (2005), Meatlantis (2007), Rise of the Steaks (2010), Fall of the Steaks (2010), and C Sections (2016).

Clad in spandex outfit, straight from the cartoon series, Sons of Butcher compliments their raunchy lyrics with onstage antics and sketchy and of course, their ferociously heavy tunes. There are even pepperette throwing and the signature meat tray that is paraded around the room for all to sample.

The comedic rock party has no plans of slowing down, in 2020 they will release an aptly timed EP “Lockdown In Steeltown” on June 19th via Infamous Butcher Records.

LUFEH’s New Video Opens “Doors” To Their Expressive Prog Sound

New Album “Luggage Falling Down” Out Now!

Gera Penna– Keys, Duca Tambasco – Bass, Dennis Atlas – Vocals, Teo Dornellas – Guitar, Lufeh Batera – Drums

Releasing their debut album “Luggage Falling Down” this past April, Los Angeles’ Lufeh (a band of both Brazilian and American musicians) have been sharing their blend of progressive rock injected with jazz styles, heavy metal foundations, and rhythmic Brazilian influences with a series of music videos for each individual track from the full length.

Today, the band shares their next video that showcases their high energy and knack for performing with the track “Doors”, which can be seen on YouTube HERE.

The band explains the song:

“‘The Doors’ takes us to new places much as the title would suggest. It tells an emotional story, but one that ultimately ends in triumph. It is a fun track because of the speed at which this band is capable of taking the listener through a series of different musical moods. It’s emotionally and instrumentally perhaps the most diverse songs on the album.”

Lufeh‘s debut album was a trying, yet successful first recording for these recently banded musicians who lived together for two weeks throughout the process. Having lost the original singer a month before recording began, the intrepid bunch found hope with Dennis Atlas who fell in step with the rest of the band immediately. This bond between the members can be heard on the new record along with the series of videos that the band has been releasing in support of it.

For fans of Dream Theater, Incubus, and Haken, Lufeh is smooth and rhythmic progressive metal; heavy chords followed by light melodies and the occasional crazy guitar solo.

Their debut full length “Luggage Falling Down” is available for stream and download on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music.

EPKAbout:
Lufeh is a musical collaboration of excellent Brazilian and American musicians brought together by drummer Batera Lufeh. Lufeh himself has had a successful career performing with many famous Brazilian bands and artists, including one of the most well known Christian rock bands of its style, Oficina G3, among others. In 2008, he recorded his first solo album “Drummed On Classics”, which uniquely combined a mix of classical pieces with progressive rock drumming.

Since moving to the U.S. in 2014, Lufeh has continued his career as a musician, starting in Florida, where he performed with Kristo Reggae and Big Pine Band. Lufeh participated in the Blue Man Group Drum-Off in 2016, where he was awarded the privilege to take part in its grand finale in Las Vegas, and chosen as one of the top five drummers in the contest. He then moved to Los Angeles, CA, where he became the official drummer of Kenny Shipman.

Now, in 2020, Lufeh is an entire unit moving forward with the addition of Gera Penna (keyboard); Duca Tambasco (bass); Dennis Atlas (vocals);  and Teo Dornellas (guitar) who have proven to be a great match. The band recently released the highly-anticipated second album “Luggage Falling Down”, a solid record of Brazilian influenced groovy progressive metal, which has received great praise from reviewers, calling it a mix between Brazilian music, Rush, and Dream Theater.

The album is both melodic and highly energetic and aggressive. With a strong foundation in jazz and classical musicality, the band brings a metal edge to a unique melodic story. These progressive metal warriors have become tycoons of song structure and, throughout the album, display highly refined expertise in making music that is captivating to listen to, addictively technical, and uplifting.

“Luggage Falling Down” was released on April 17, 2020 and is available on all major digital platforms.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – July 31, 2020

Seattle Melodic Death DRAEMORA Cover Deftones “Minerva”

Debut EP “Awakening” Out Now via Ultra Nast Records

Every band is influenced by another, and today, Seattle’s Draemora is excited to share a cover version of a group that they have admired very much over the years, Deftones and their infamous song “Minerva” from the 2003 self-titled album.

When asked why they chose this Deftones track to cover, Draemora guitarist Terry Jenkins explained:

“Deftones has been the single most important band to me as an artist from childhood to adulthood. It’s been there throughout my ups and downs and shaped me as a human for better or worse. The quarantine has given me a lot of time to reflect and think, this led to creating material. I revisited this song recently and it gave me chills listening to it, just like the first time I heard it. When Draemora released our EP ‘Awakening’, it was clear to me that it was unclear to our listeners what exactly are the influences of this band, so I thought it would be best to just cover some of our very favorite songs that we felt were important to us, this is the first one. We hope you enjoy it, it was a labor of love making it.”

Listen to Draemora‘s cover version of Deftones’ “Minerva” HERE.

Draemora‘s debut EP “Awakening”, released this past June via Ultra Nast Records is nothing short of heavy, melodic metal infused with honest and heartfelt lyrics. This combination works perfectly with the band’s mission to evoke an intense emotional and spiritual experience that brings out the raw emotions that are suppressed all day in normal day to day lives.

Guitarist Terry Jenkins elaborates the story behind the writing of “Awakening”:

“It’s intense and beautiful.  It’s angry, sad, and uplifting and I think it is a reflection of a human living in modern-day society.  The majority of the lyrics are a culmination of direct excerpts from letters, poems, and life experiences from the period between May 2018 and August 2019.  It was a very intense time in my life.  A relationship I had been in for 10 years was falling apart due to my addiction problems and I had just got sober at the end of April 2018.  Being sober after being intoxicated and high for 16 years was like living in a different world all together.  I had to finally face all of the things I had put off for a very long time and it was like I was learning how to do everything in my life all over again.  I used lyrics and music to channel a lot of those feelings and get it out.  When I was in the beginning, I relied on listening to a few specific metal albums to keep me from slipping into the dark, and without those pieces of music, I may not be walking the earth right now.  I was going to keep this stuff to myself but, the realization that I needed to feel like I wasn’t alone by listening to music that spoke candidly about the same things that I was going through almost forced me to share my stories and others stories on this EP with someone else who is going through the same stuff.”

Recommended for fans of Strapping Young Lad, Whitechapel, and Nevermore, Draemora‘s “Awakening” is available Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Google Play HERE.

Album Stream on YouTube.

With a slight pause in the band’s plans due to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Draemora is already working away on a full-length album to follow and getting ready for when they can pummel crowds live with their heavy melodic brand of death metal.

“Draemora’s new EP Awakening is a 17 minute melodic death metal piece with more twists and turns than your average M. Night Shyamalan movie. This is a band that doesn’t stick to the tradition melo-death sounds, instead looking to incorporate some clean singing, some progressive sections and some experimental sounds… This is an EP that incorporates many different sounds, but doesn’t have any filler… A very unique debut release from Draemora.” – Metal Injection

“‘Guilt’ features the band’s penchant for mixing their brutal modern metal with glorious rock melodies! Think of a sound that meshes Gojira, Alien Weaponry, Faith No More, and the more recent era of Lamb of God, and you might begin to understand the group!” – Ghost Cult Mag

“In this playthrough of their song “Guilt” we see Terry from Draemora ripping away with his Fender Telecaster. His tele is loaded with a single EMG 57 and he’s boosting that guy with an Ibanez TS9 going directly into his Mesa. The deadly tone of the 2-channel and a heavy rhythm hand are such a great combo.” – Gear Gods

“A haunting, eerie melody opens “Home” with the an Allegaeon esq melodic moment before some DJent infused riffage takes hold and Wood delivers the kind of unclean vocals that leave you with 3rd degree burns on the inside of your throat. Jenkins interjects with a pair of clean sung verses over some almost Grungy Metalcore and you have a track with perhaps a trio of different styles in a single offering that works because of the cognitive tissue of the narrative.” – Metal Noise

KISW 99.9FM (Seattle) – BJ & Migs L&L BAND OF THE WEEK: Draemora (June 10, 2020)

“LEGION OF SCUM, with its dynamic and pressing drums and sharp riffing, surely one of our favorite tracks.” – HardRockHeavyMetal

From Calgary, Alberta, metalcore is alive and rowdy thanks to Lost In Static. They have made a name for themselves locally and with the new single, “Jordan”, the band is continuing to entice listeners at home and abroad.

Watch and listen to the lyric video HERE.

This single is going to be on Lost In Static’s debut self-titled album released later this year. The heartfelt and personal song has special meaning to the band, which they explain in their own words:

“Our new single “Jordan” is our second track to be released from our upcoming debut record. ‘Jordan’ was a childhood friend who unfortunately lost his life from drinking and driving. This song was written in his honour. It’s heavy, it’s beautiful and we hope everyone is going to love it as much as we do!”.

The combination of solid riffs and juxtaposed vocals show a somber and passionate side of Lost In Static while keeping with the heaviness that is the staple of the genre. Lost In Static takes their craft to a new level and will definitely be intriguing for heavy music lovers of all kinds.

Recommended for fans of After the Burial, Veil of Maya, and Born of Osiris this is true metalcore.

“Jordan” is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play HERE.

About:
Fresh out of Calgary, Canada comes Lost In Static. What started as a cover band called Moron Mountain many years ago has now fully blossomed into an original metal act that has been playing stages since early 2019.

Comprised of seasoned musicians Lance MacBain, Noureen Amin, Jared Boyd, Tyler Johansen the metal band has just started their musical journey fusing the djent elements of progressive metal with metalcore.

The group works together to create music that is both aggressive and fun, with MacBain generally writing the music and MacBain, Johansen and Boyd collectively writing the lyrics. Relating to their band name, the messages they send through their lyrics convey relation to the feeling of getting lost in the “static” of the world, and all the events that take place; an almost overwhelming feeling of white noise.

With an emphasis on producing a tight live show full of headbanging, energy and moshing, Lost In Static is hitting the ground running with their debut album being released soon.

Rockshots Records Signs Greece’s BLACK FATE For Release of New Album “Ithaca” Out October 2020

“Ithaca” Due Out October 23rd

Rockshots Records is proud to announce their latest signing of Greece’s Black Fate for the release of the prog power metal band’s new album “Ithaca” due out October 23rd, 2020. With their heartbreaking world-class vocals, catchy hooks, and lyrics, along with crashing guitar riffs, haunting melodies, and furious technical and melodic solos, Black Fate continues to satisfy bands with the release of their 5th studio album. “Ithaca” was mixed and mastered by Steve Lado and follows full-lengths “Between Visions and Lies” (2014) (Ulterium Records), “Deliverance of Soul” (2009) (Asiral Records), “A Piece of Dream” (2002) (Secret Port Records), “Uncover” (2001) (Secret Port Records).

The band comments on the release of “Ithaca”:

“‘Ithaca’ is melodic, technical, and groovy, but also a bit dark. It has beautiful and strange melodies with powerful emotions. We believe it’s an album for all kinds of metal audiences. We hope the fans will see it the same way. We see ‘’Ithaca’’ as a very integrated album. Fans who have followed us over the years will also notice many changes in the songwriting process, we concentrated to find the best form and the best overall result for every song.”

Formed in 1990 in Larissa, Greece, Black Fate introduced themselves to the metal world with two demos ’’Black Fate” and “A Piece of Dream’’ with great praise.

A decade after establishing themselves and a few lineup changes, the band debut the 2000  full length “Uncover” via Secret Port Records, and two years later their two first original demos were also released together under the title “A Piece of Dream”.

After a short hiatus, the band returned in 2009 with their next offering “Deliverance of Soul’’ via Asiral Records.

Then in 2014, the power melodic metal band switched up to a new line up featuring vocalist Vasilis Georgiou, guitarist Gus Drax from UK bands Biomechanical and Sunburst, bassist Vasilis Liakos and drummer Tsintzilonis Nikos. The new line up recorded the album ”Between Visions and Lies” released by Swedish label Ulterium Records in 2014 along with label re-issuing in 2016 the band’s re-mastered 2009 album ”Deliverance of Soul” along with new album artwork.

Then in 2019, the band recruited keyboardist Themis Koparanidis and Black Fate hit the studio to record their 12 track epic “Ithaca” that was mixed and mastered by Steve Lado and now scheduled to be released via Italian label Rockshots Records for October 2020.

Black Fate is inspired by the giants of their genre (Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Kamelot, Nightwish, Iron Maiden, Dio, and many others) and look forward to showcasing their blend of melodic progressive power metal in the next chapter of their two-decade career.

Montreal’s Endast have been silent since 2015 after calling it quits and ending their decade long career. However, one of the silver linings of the global pandemic was the core members of the band reuniting organically and committing to release a new single. As vocalist James Arsenian puts it:

“My brother Chris presented me and the other boys in the band with the idea of writing a new Endast tune. We haven’t written music together in years, so we were all pretty stoked to put this together, even if we had to do it remotely and apart from each other. The result is a familiar sound with a newfound level of aggression. This is just the start”

The single “Standby To Get Some” is fresh, yet familiar; a track long time fans of the band will appreciate and one that will garner them new fans hanging out in every corner of the world. Starting with a somber melodic intro that breaks into classic Endast breakdowns, and gritty, aggressive vocals, Endast proves they can still bring it.

As one of Canada’s most prolific metalcore acts, Endast has toured the country extensively and recorded four full-length albums. Now they have returned with plans to release more singles and they are currently working on a music video for the single which will be released in the future.

For fans of The Ghost Inside, Misery Signals, and Trivium, Endast is grownup metalcore with no boundaries.

The music video for “Standby To Get Some” can be viewed via its premiere on MetalInjection HERE.

NYC Death Metal WINTER NIGHTS Streaming Self-Titled Album

Premiere Album Stream via MetalInsider

New Self-Titled Album Out July 31, 2020

Efrain Farfan – Back up Vocals and Guitar, Jeremy Farfan – Vocals and Guitar

Set to unleash their self-titled album on July 31st, NYC death metal Winter Nights is streaming the release in full via its premiere on MetalInsider HERE.

The self-titled album follows the band’s 2014 widely praised full length “An Endless Apocalypse”. Recorded between 2015 and 2018 at Atomic Sound in Brooklyn, New York, this new album is clearly progress for Winter Nights. Showing its maturity, it’s easy to hear the difference between the self-titled album and its predecessor.

Combining dark, foreboding lyrics and melodic interludes breaking up pounding riffs, the primary themes on the album relate to the feeling of being stuck on the idea of death. The lyrics are a sort of metaphor of losing someone and / or taking your own life for one purpose or another. Winter Nights explains the album in their own words, painting a grim picture:

“If you took a deep breath right before free-falling off a cliff in the pouring rain with a glimmer of sunshine trying to come through dark clouds only to fall into a dark hole and wake up crawling all fours on cold soil with snow falling in a dark moonlight forest.”

For fans of Belphagor, Amon Amarth, and Dark Tranquility, the self-titled album will be available on July 31, 2020.

Album pre-order here.

Track Listing:
1. When December Burns (5:47)
2. Starved For Energy (4:09)
3. Withdrawals (4:11)
4. Unmarked Grave (4:52)

About:
Winter Nights is a four-piece melodic death metal band emanating from Brooklyn, New York in the winter of 2007. The sound and lyrical themes of their music portray loss, pain, grievance, and darkness.

Guitar driven melodies evoke visceral reactions to the mythic end of the world. They are an integral part of the thriving New York metal scene. As of 2020, their formation consists of dueling guitar brothers Jeremy and Efrain Farfan who also cover vocals, bassist Martin Tune and drummer James Yarusinsky.

The two Farfan brothers came up with the idea for the band after a New Years’ toast and after recruiting a friend they started writing music together and the rest is history. Trading endless amounts of riffs the Farfan brothers devise the majority of the music before presenting it to the rest of the band to be beefed out in the rehearsal studio.

Mainly inspired by nature, places of travel. different scenery. Jeremy gets his ideas from places he’s traveled such as the cliffs of northern Ireland, catacombs of Montreal, nighttime canals of Venice, and the eerie silence of Central Park at night.

Playing with similar bands such as Kalmah, Belphegor, and Insomnium, and on festivals including Maryland Folkfest and Poconos Folkfest, Winter Nights is a mainstay in the New York metal underground. With personal influences rooted primarily in metal, the members of Winter Nights make provocative, despairing, genuine songs. In 2008 they released a self-titled demo EP, followed by another EP “From Darkness Till Dawn” in 2011, and a full length “An Endless Apocalypse” in 2014. 2020 brings a new self-titled album due out July 31st.

“Bone-Crushing Melodic Death Metal” – Permafrost Today

“‘Encounters of the Frozen North’ has a lot of thundering, jolting power along with some killer riffs and a dark, somewhat Eastern-influenced melody that worms its way into your head. The music is capped by jagged, tyrannical vocals that make a powerful impact and by a serpentine solo that underscores the reptilian menace lurking within the song.” – No Clean Singing

“Combining the worlds of detailed, melodic guitar metal with the gruff, mean vocalisation of death and doom, Winter Nights has a lot to offer across the 6 tracks.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Winter Nights remain at the heart of Brooklyn” – Heavy New York

“Anyone seeking melodic death metal that isn’t afraid of really leaning into the ‘death’ side of things, while still maintaining some epic and somber tones, Winter Nights should be next on your ‘need to check out’ list. Frost-bitten and glorious in just the right percentages. 8/10” – Dead Rhetoric

“the music on this is moody and mid-paced, with a melancholic melodic sensibility mixed in with crunching, heavy riffing that almost reminds me of older Amon Amarth.” – The Metal Crypt

“Fans of old school Amon Amarth and At The Gates will dig this band. Jam out to “When December Burns” now!” – Ghost Cult Mag

“Six songs in this new work; the first shot is ENCOUNTERS, where instrumental parts and blackened vocals prevail.” – HardRockHeavyMetal
