Breakdowns and Synthwave Collide On EVERY HOUR KILLS’ Collaboration w/ Chris Wiseman (Shadow of Intent) On  “Tenebrous”

New EP “Vacua” Out Now!

EP Guests:
Calle Thomer (Vildhjarta, Humanity’s Last Breath),
Chris Wiseman (Currents, Shadow of Intent)

Every Hour Kills has always had a mission to challenge the status quo when it comes to metal genres and this newest iteration from the group is highlighted with the most divergent single “Tenebrous” from their latest EP “Vacua”.

The single breaches the borders of genres with elements of synthwave and clean vocals in the verses crossed with heavy chugs and breakdowns. The music is written mainly by guitarist Sascha Laskow which is further molded by the other members with the lyrics written by vocalists Jei Doublerice and Jerrod Maxwell-Lyster. The band comments on the single:

“This was another collaboration with Chris Wiseman (Currents, Shadow of Intent), although I changed the verses to be more of a synth-driven throwback to previous EHK material. Jerrod came in here to add some new wave crooning as a contrast to the crushing low tuned riffs and dissonance that permeate the rest of the track.”

With the new songs presented on the EP; they’ve obviously become a lot heavier, darker, and introduced the harsh vocals element as a more regular focus. This is just an honest expression of the emotions everyone has gone through in the last year.

Influenced primarily by progressive, djent and cinematic music, members of Every Hour Kills have opened for bands such Godsmack, Apocalyptica, and Trivium, however, they are currently an internet-only project, and no live appearances are planned.

Every Hour Kills is best described as melodic, dark, and cinematic, progressive juxtaposing angular heaviness with soaring melody. They are suggested listening for fans of Periphery, Vildhjarta, and Spiritbox.

New EP “Vacua” Out October 8th

Chris Wiseman (Currents, Shadow of Intent)

Calgary’s formidable modern metal act Every Hour Kill’s has been shunning and breaking genre rules throughout their career with each release surpassing the last in musicianship and experimentation. The latest offering “Vacua” due out on October 8th is the biggest departure yet and although not everyone might like it; guitarist and primary songwriter Sacha Laskow wrote what he felt rather than trying to stick to a template of what the band ‘should’ sound like. According to him, fans of progressive music like himself are typically open to a range of sounds, influences, and emotions. He explains the sound change further:

“This record is a culmination of a dark, tumultuous fucked up year in the world and in my personal life, as it was for many people around the world. As lucky as I am to still have work and my basic needs met, the emotional rollercoaster still affected me strongly and I ended up unemployed for a period in 2020, and thus this EP was born. It is both more human in that I collaborated more strongly with new songwriters and Jei on vocals, but also more mechanical as I also wrote with the assistance of AI creation tools, and most of the instrumentation is programmed MIDI. I feel like this is my most honest work as a writer, to express what comes to mind rather than fit into a box or template of what Every Hour Kills ‘should’ sound like. It may alienate some people but so be it!”

Every Hour Kills is a rotating collective ensemble featuring the core of ex-Divinity / Enditol guitarist and producer Sacha Laskow, bassist Brent Stutsky (ex-Breach of Trust), along with vocalists Jei Doublerice (Despite Exile, Abiogenesis) and Jerrod Maxwell-Lyster (ex-Out of Your Mouth).

Each of the five tracks on “Vacua” were written for the EP, with no filler and nothing left on the cutting room floor. Track “Intransigent” was co-written with Calle Thomer (Vildhjarta, Humanity’s Last Breath) and tracks “Euclidian” and “Tenebrous” were co-written with Chris Wiseman (Currents, Shadow of Intent). The EP was produced, mixed, and mastered by Laskow along with EP artwork done by Erisis Red.

Recommended for fans of Born of Osiris, Periphery, and Vildhjarta, “Vacua” can be heard in full before it officially releases via its premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

Every Hour Kills’ “Vacua” Is a Harsh Reflection On A Year Of Chaos And Turmoil

Track Premiere via NewFuryMedia

New EP “Vacua” Out October 8th

Calgary’s Every Hour Kills is a musical experiment that challenges what defines a band. Rather, the group sees itself as a constantly evolving musical collective; guest vocalists and soloists across the songs bring their own unique artistry and elevate the collective impact of Every Hour Kills’ brand. The latest from them is the upcoming EP “Vacua” and the next single is the title track.

“Vacua” was the first song written for the EP and features low-tuned riffs and nihilistic vocals. These vocals are provided by newcomer to the group – Jei Doublerice who brings more force into the trademark sound.  The band explains further:

“This single sets things off in a new, heavier direction. Different tuning, different time signatures and chord progressions, and different vibes overall led to seeking out a new vocalist which would eventually enlist Jei. Clean vocals just didn’t seem to fit, although Jerrod does make an appearance in the chorus, the vocals are very processed and robotic vs. the melodic singing we’d been known for previously.”

This EP is the fourth from Every Hour Kills following “Every Hour Kills” (2015); “Fragile Machine” (2018); and “Re:awaken” (2020). It was produced, mixed and mastered by guitarist Alan Sacha Laskow and the album art was done by Erisis Red.

Modern and dark, Every Hour Kills keeps the melody and progressive riffs but mirrors the past year with a generous dose of heavy. This honest display of emotions is recommended for fans of Veil of Maya, Born of Osiris, and Periphery.

The visualizer for “Vacua” can be heard via its premiere on NewFuryMedia HERE.

“Vacua” is expected out October 8th, 2021.

Every Hour Kills Present Their Heaviest And Most Aggressive Track To Date The Immense “Intransigent”

Video Premiere via TheCirclePit

Calgary, Canada’s Every Hour Kills have a new single “Intransigent” off their upcoming EP “Vacua”.

This will be the fourth EP from the band and it shows definitive evolution being five of the heaviest tracks the group has ever written. They have almost done away with clean vocals in favour of deep growling provided by newcomer Jei Doublerice, and downplay the synth bits and cranking the riffs to 11. This new phase fits Every Hour Kills’ motive of being “a constantly evolving musical collective; guest vocalists and soloists across the songs bring their own unique artistry and elevate the collective impact of Every Hour Kills’ brand”. Guitarist Sacha Laskow continues to explain the single:

“This song was co-written with Calle Thommer (Vildjharta, Humanity’s Last Breath), and is probably the heaviest thing I’ve ever written. He helped shape things in a more down-tempo direction, while I added in the synth layers and more melodic aspects, as well as the breakdown based on where his ideas were taking me. Jei came in and absolutely crushed it with one of the most intense vocal performances on the record.”

Chosen to close out the EP, “Intransigent” as the most intense track finalizes this step in Every Hour Kills‘ growth to a heavier version of their former selves. The lyrics encompass the concepts of chaos and infinity and while it still retains the djenty progressive vibes of modern metal, it begins pushing the envelope with a wider range of sounds, influences and emotions.

The dark cinematic juxtaposing angular heaviness with soaring melody of “Intransigent” is recommended for fans of Periphery, Vildhjarta, and Spiritbox

“Intransigent” is available via its premiere on TheCirclePit‘s YouTube channel HERE.

“Vacua” is expected out October 8th, 2021.

“Every Hour Kills are a melodic metalcore band out of Calgary writing some killer music in the vein of modern Bring Me The Horizon or even In Flames. Re:Awaken features a slew of killer guest musicians in its ranks to help add an additional layer of musicianship. Re:Awaken is a wicked 4 track EP that features 3 original songs as well as a cover of Joe Satriani’s “Time”. For those of you who may also be vocalists yourselves, or maybe just really enjoy the musicianship, the EP also comes with instrumental versions of each of the songs. As a whole though, the EP only spans 18 minutes, it’s a very potent and filled release. A nice breath of fresh air in a genre where everyone wants to sound like a Sumerian Records band.” – Metal Injection

“Give Every Hour Kills a try if you’re into modern and progressive metal that comes with extra intrigue if you like using music to perk your curiosities.” – The Independent Voice

“This record is a presentation that will appeal to metal fans across the board.” – Phil’s Picks

“The band plays a sound of metal sounds extremely modern and melodic, coming across as a mix of Scar Symmetry and Fear Factory, with sprinkles of djent for added flair.” – New Noise Magazine

“Should the band be able to hold this standard on their first full-length album, one has to count on Every Hour Kills in the first league of Modern Metal. CrypticRock gives Every Hour Kills 4.5 out of 5 stars.”

“The song has an amazing feel to it that is uplifting and empowering at the same time and it makes you feel like could run a marathon and finish first place. “ – Headbanger Review

“Setting aside my bias for death and thrash metal, they mix melodic metal and electronic programming into something I found enjoyable and much different from what I spin on a daily basis.” – A Metal State of Mind

“On a final note I have to say that Every Hour Kills created nothing short of a mini-epic, and my only complaint is that I am left wanting a full sized album with more tracks than this one offered.” – Vents Magazine

“The music can be described as a powerful mix of the melodic power of (the early) Disturbed, the heaviness of Fear Factory and the musical craftsmanship of progressive acts like Dream Theater (in their ’old days’).” – Peek-a-boo Magazine

“Overall – This is an interesting blend of modern electronica and driving metal.  I can see them going far.” – SMN News

===============================

EP as a whole:
“This record is a culmination of a dark, tumultuous fucked up year in the world and in my personal life as it was for many people around the world. As lucky as I am to still have work and my basic needs met, the emotional rollercoaster still affected me strongly and I ended up unemployed for a period of time in 2020. I was lucky to have some savings and financial padding from my previous job so I took the opportunity to write this EP.”

Track by track explained:
1. Palindrome 2:01 – An instrumental intro that gives a good idea of the heavy and technical elements to come.

2. Vacua 3:28 – The 1st song written for the EP with extreme low-tuned riffs and nihilistic vocals.

3. Euclidian 2:57 – This song smashes together ‘normal’ EHK with the new vibe, with heavier sections and more melodic elements juxtaposed.

4. Tenebrous 3:34 – Another genre-crossing track with elements of synthwave and clean vocals in the verses crossed with heavy chugs and breakdowns.

5. Intransigent 4:08 – Closing out the EP with the heaviest song we’ve ever written, the lyrics encompass the concepts of chaos and infinity.

0 Every Hour Kills Juxtapose Angular Heaviness With Soaring Melody On “Euclidian”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – June 4, 2021

For fans of Veil of Maya, Born of Osiris, Periphery, Erra, Spiritbox

Every Hour Kills Juxtapose Angular Heaviness With Soaring Melody On “Euclidian”

Every Hour Kills, from Calgary, Canada, has a reputation for putting out solid, immersive EPs and creatively artistic music videos. Their latest work “Vacua” is expanding on their trademark sound, albeit it’s a twisted, heavier version than what fans have got used to over the years. This new release will see a new vocalist in the form of Jei Doublerice (Abiogenesis, Despite Exile, Sensory Amusia) and with his inclusion; EHK does away with a lot of the melody and clean vocals, swapping them for brutal breakdowns and turbulent vocals. The initial glimpse into this new form is through the single “Euclidian”.

The single was co-written with Chris Wiseman (Currents, Shadow of Intent) and is an introduction to the new style with Doublerice. His riffing style complements Sacha Laskow’s perfectly and what came out was an amalgamation of this technical riffing with whacky synths/time signatures/cinematic breakdown. Doublerice came in over top with his signature intense style to wrap everything up. This is the shortest song on the EP and gets in and gets out with no filler.

Acknowledging that this new EP might not be for everyone, founder, guitarist, and producer Sacha Laskow, shares that this work is the result of a “dark, tumultuous fucked up year” for him personally, along with many other people. He explains further:

“As lucky as I am to still have work and my basic needs met, the emotional rollercoaster still affected me strongly and I ended up unemployed for a period in 2020, and thus this EP was born.

“Vacua” will be the fourth studio release from the band, following “Every Hour Kills” (2015), “Fragile Machine” (2018) and “Re:awaken” (2020). The djenty scorecore is recommended for fans of Veil of Maya, Born of Osiris, and Periphery

The single “Euclidian” is out now as of June 4th and can be heard on the following platforms:

YouTube – https://youtu.be/pD7ZRyeu0P4

EP “Vacua” will be released later this year.

About:
“Every hour wounds, but the last one kills” – Anonymous

Every Hour Kills is a rotating collective ensemble featuring the core of ex-Divinity / Enditol guitarist and producer Sacha Laskow, bassist Brent Stutsky (ex-Breach of Trust), along with vocalists Jei Doublerice (Despite Exile, Abiogenesis) and Jerrod Maxwell-Lyster (ex-Out of Your Mouth).

Every Hour Kills was built to challenge the idea of what defines a “band”. Rather, the group sees itself as a constantly evolving musical collective; guest vocalists and soloists across the songs bring their own unique artistry and elevate the collective impact of Every Hour Kills’ brand. The lyrics, artwork, visuals, and themes all look toward the future, asking the key postmodern question of how will emerging technology and our humanity progress and co-exist?

Canada’s Every Hour Kills will “Re:Awaken” the world with their new EP out on Friday, October 9th. Each song on the record tells the story of an individual existing in this fragmented future; their struggle to exist amidst the chaos of forces of the elite race and the constant encroaching tide of technology.

Before the EP officially drops, the band have teamed up with MetalInjection for its full stream HERE.

The band adds:

“Every Hour Kills was built to challenge the idea of what defines a “band”. Rather, the group sees itself as a constantly evolving musical collective; guest vocalists and soloists across the songs bring their own unique artistry and elevate the collective impact of Every Hour Kills’ brand. With every release we are trying to push ourselves technically, in the writing, and thematically. The listening experience is meant to smash together progressive metal with a cinematic film score. There are literally hundreds of tracks of synth and orchestration going on underneath the metal-band foundation; so, each listen should uncover a new tidbit of ear candy and layers, especially with headphones or good speakers!”

“Re:Awaken” is a concept album with a rich and colourful story that plays into the lore of Every Hour Kills. It sends the listener into the 22nd century, where humanity is deteriorating and the only help seems to come from a race of aliens, the Illusions. Their proposition was simple: in exchange for children who had not yet been consumed by the plague, they would give us medicine to heal the sick.

As an internet-only project, Every Hour Kills leverages this sole focus in bringing in a wide variety of guest artists that include Shaley Bourget of (Dayshell, ex-Of Mice & Men), Morgan Reid (Bloodshot Dawn), Chris Thoresen (Shark Infested Daughters), Travis Montgomery (Threat Signal, Meytal), and Rick Graham. The EP also comes with a visual storybook from Splice Comics that supplement the themes of the band.

Geared towards fans of sci-fi, djent, and progressive metal, especially those with Scar Symmetry, Starset, and Bring Me the Horizon in their rotation, “Re:Awaken” comes out on October 9, 2020. EP Pre-Save HERE (Spotify, Bandcamp, Apple Music).
