“Féleth: Transcends the traditional limits of the genre…” – Permafrost.today
“Depravity the newest album from Feleth is one brutal album full of riffs and hooks to keep even the most particular entertained. Feleth mix the roots of the Norwegian metal scene, with the death metal tone they strive for to create some well crafted blackened death metal, similar to that of Shadow of Intent.” – Metal Injection
“With a melting pot of ideas, yet rooted in delivering a head-smashing and neck-destroying style of metal, Féleth are aggressive newcomers to a scene that constantly looks to surprise… Féleth deliver heavy and extreme noise so very well.” 9/10  – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life
“straight up heaviness and brutality, tech offerings and melodic atmopsheres, and enjoyable groove.” – Dead Rhetoric
“Féleth does death metal fast and aggressive, reigning in their impressive technical chops for maximum impact, keeping their riffs (and songs, for that matter) relatively short and to the point. They strike a pretty even balance between chunky chords and caustic melodies, most of which are designed to coax headbanging than to impress with virtuosity. The album is front-loaded with catchy bangers, saving the more technical and weird bits for the latter half.” – Tolet Ov Hell
“Overall, Depravity is a solid debut album by Feleth. It’s strongest moments are when they keep things simple, delivering brutal and thunderous death metal that would probably wake the dead. The guitars are the best bit, they sound huge and aggressive, effectively transmitting the anger and hatred in their young Norwegian hearts.” – Abrasive Noise
“The new Feléth album is a big melting pot of all things good in modern death metal… They serve up tech death esque song structures and solos with the beautiful harmonies of melodic death metal and the crushing riffs of a brutal death metal banger. It’s an eclectic listen for sure. There are catchy parts here and there that make the record memorable and add to its replay value. The vocalist on here does an amazing job and the production value is high… Great record!” – Zax Record Reveiws

Féleth’s debut album “Depravity” is finally here.

Féleth – A Death Metal band from the North of Norway, far above the arctic circle – create heavy, melodic music, transcending the traditional limits of the genre. Influenced by a unique blend of Death Metal, Thrash, Deathcore, Rock and even elements of Jazz.

Féleth have gained a fantastic reputation in the local scene. Being named one of Alta’s best bands, regardless of genre (“ET AV ALTAS BESTE BAND, UANSETT SJANGER”; Altaposten 2019/02/25).

With songs like Swan Song showing off their Deathcore influences, the epic Dissolution jumping from Death Metal to Jazz, to Black Metal seamlessly, and Pale Tongue transforming from in your face Death Metal to a beautiful ambient soundscape. This is a band that isn’t just for fans of Death Metal. Even featuring vocals from singer / songwriter, Petter Carlsen on the album.

Lyrically the album pulls away from traditional Death Metal tropes, to also criticize capitalism, pollution, fake news and the depravity of humanity at large. And musically features beautiful melodic leads, heavy chugging guitars, bass solo’s, fast intricate drum work and the huge vocal range of lead singer, Espen Dagenborg.

The album was mixed and mastered by Death Metal legend, Christian Donaldson, Cryptopsy’s guitarist and head engineer of The Grid Productions. Recently working with some of the best the genre has to offer including; Shadow of Intent, Ingested, The Agonist and Beyond Creation to name a few.

“Ladies and gentlemen the year is 2020 and with the new year comes the birth of the latest rock sub-genre…. CAVE METAL!  Mark Sokoll… bassist of Darkside NYC (as well as the highly-underrated Terminal Confusion from way back in the day) is the main brain behind this four0song, ten minute debut which has its share of backstories… “Flak” leads off (check out the video) with a fuzzy bass and some straight outta da cave styled vocals. With so many styles of metal out there to be had cave metal is not that bad of a self-description to be honest with you. What I like about “Neanderthal Tales”is that these songs mix shit up… there is no singular pattern that they stick to. Just for that this EP gets some bonus points.” – In Effect Hardcore Magazine

BIO:

CHAKA is a side-project from Darkside NYC’s bassist, Mark Sokoll. Their sound is in the vein of old Celtic Frost, Venom, Cro-Mags, and Black Sabbath.

Mark has been playing the bass guitar since 1986 which is the same year he joined Terminal Confusion (NYHC). After playing bass guitar and singing background vocals for numerous other punk and Metal bands in the NYC scene,(Hypoxia, Leeway, The Downlow NYHC, F*Bomb, etc.)

Mark released his first solo EP in December of 2019 titled “Neanderthal Tales”.
Neanderthal Tales is a four-song EP written exclusively by Mark, who was joined by Ty Canon (all guitars) and three different drummers (two of whom are current members of DarksideNYC). Ty also contributed a six-string bass guitar track for the song, “Anthroapology”, as well as providing all of the artwork for the EP and designing the website. Jim Sullivan played drums on two tracks and first recorded with Mark in 2005.

CHAKA’s music is described as “Cro-Magnon Cave Metal mixed with hardcore Punk Rock elements. “This EP features tales of Kamikaze pilot attacks, a history of weapons from the Dawn of Man until modernity, embracing evolution, and finally: hemispheres in conflict.

In Effect Hardcoremagazine described the EP, in part, as:“ Perhaps what Metalheads in leather vests marching down the street with torches would use as their theme songs” and “Gives off a Carnivore vibe with that heavy, heavy bass sound”.

The Neanderthal Tales EP is a return to brutal Heavy Metal with a primal barrage of prehistoric power. Let the regression begin!

“FRACTURES & OUTLINES are very talented band. Their music ability is put out as if it were a parade from album start to album finish.” – Metal Temple

“‘’End Of The World’’ throws me back into my emo-phase right away. I am LOVING it! The music is very dynamic, fast and diverse. I like the clean vocals and the growls together. ‘’Echoes’’ starts with high pitched screams, and that is when I was completely sold. The chorus has an original twist to it, there is somewhat of a breakdown in the drumline when you hear ‘’ECHOES’’” – Lyrical Spell Magazine

“Try and fight your way through this album without stopping; you’ll find yourself “Defenseless.”” – PureGrainAudio

“if you are into the post hardcore scene then this album is for you!… As amazing as the album is, I’d be willing to wager that the live experience would be even better. I hope they manage to make it out to SoCal one day or even Vegas I’d love to attend one of their concerts!” – The Music Below

“Overall, Fractures & Outlines debut album provides a more than enjoyable throwback to old-school metalcore and screamo but with their more varied and melodic sound and optimistic lyrics they do add an energetic breath of fresh air to both subgenres. ” – Belgian Metal Shredder

“ce groupe a le mérite d’avoir une excellente dynamique et d’être une équipe bien liée. Ils sont charismatiques et les gars ont du plaisir sur scène, ce qui pour moi est un incontournable pour offrir un excellent show! Leur album, Defenseless sorti en mai 2019, nous transporte dans divers thèmes tous reliés à nos luttes et nos démons intérieurs. Des thèmes lourds de sens, mais amenés musicalement avec brio.” – Ondes Chocs (Live Review – FarmFest 2019)

“An interesting choice to the lineup, as the other bands were of the deathcore / melodic metal genre. However, what they lacked in genre similarity they made up for in energy. This was highlighted by their cover of Alexisonfire “This Could Be Anywhere in the World“, which I and the crowd were taken aback by. Not only did they do the cover well, but they got the crowd engaged and were eager to mosh and singalong to it.” – Splice Media Group

Ripping out of Gatineau, Canada, Fractures & Outlines are a post-hardcore band with influences ranging from Silverstein, No Use For A Name and Killswitch Engage.

The band came together in 2014 and work tirelessly planting their feet in the local underground music scene. Intrepidly, they created their first EP ‘Checkmate’ in 2017, which was met with solid acclaim from various publications.

As a team, the band work on each song together crafting heavy hooks, catchy choruses and brutal breakdowns with lyrical themes about internal struggle and having to fight your own demons. Working to further develop a sound that is their own, they hit the studio in 2018 to start work on their 10 track full length ‘Defenseless’ released in May 2019.

Now in 2020, a year after the release of their full length, the band returns with their follow up single “Kerosene”. The band teamed up once again with producer Joe Lyko (Dark Moon Productions) and are ready to set the moshpit ablaze to an even hotter soundtrack.

The band adds about the track:

“A political song about uprising against the establishment; burning down what was built before us so we can rebuild it again. It is a song about unification and brotherhood, and not being afraid to fight for a better world. It features anthemic choruses and fast-paced, aggressive verses, as well as featuring Salem Trials frontman Jericho Spencer-Champagne.”

The single will be available on all digital platforms for stream and download as of May 8, 2020.

Held In Secret Premiere New Single ‘Nomads’ ft. Silent Planet’s Garrett Russell

New EP “Nomads” Out May 29th

Held In Secret are five hardworking individuals who spend every day creating the heaviest and djentiest listening experience known to the Ottawa metal scene. On May 29th, 2020, they will release their sophomore effort “Nomads” and before it officially drops, the band is sharing another single off the EP, the title track featuring Silent Planet vocalist Garrett Russell.

Listen to ‘Nomads’ ft. Garrett Russell (Silent Planet) via its premiere on New Fury Media HERE.

The band adds about the story behind the track and how Russell joined them on vocals:

“‘Nomads’, the title track off our EP, talks about the abuse of Indigenous culture in Canada and The United States. We made it the title track right as the clean water crisis happened in Canada. It’s hard to imagine that in 2020, First Nations in Canada could lack access to clean drinking water in their own territories, but many do. In fact, 400 out of 618 First Nations were under at least one water advisory between 2004 and 2014. When we first met Mr. Russell, Silent Planet was opening for August Burns Red in Montreal. We went to speak to him at the merch table as nervous fans. We told him about the concept of the record plus the various messages we are trying to get out there with our music and how we love to have him guest vocals. He really dug the ideas involved and said he be happy to lend his voice to the cause. We’re so thankful to Russell, an amazing person, and talent.”

“Nomads” is, according to the band, an improvement from their debut EP. “Nomads” is a concept release with highly relatable subjects, set to clean and heavy metalcore. Moving away from “repetitive early 2010’s metalcore”, Held In Secret diverges into a more accessible sound, interesting to a broader public, incorporating choirs and piano, all while retaining all of the heaviness of the first EP.

Recommended for fans of Silent Planet, Volumes and Architects, “Nomads” will be available on all digital platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon.

First single ‘Static’ available HERE.

About:
Held In Secret was impulsively founded in January of 2016 by Matt J. Zephyr (vocals) and David Lamothe (lead guitar) with the explicit goal of taking over the world. Since then, they have been joined by a great family of like-minded people with the addition of William Gunn (bass), Tommy Lemieux (drums) and Joey Sollazzo (rhythm guitar).

These five individuals work hard every day to create the heaviest and Djentiest listening experience known to the Ottawa metal scene. Wanting the listeners to feel like they are understood, the lyrics from Held In Secret paint pictures of trauma, despair, and hope.

On December 7th, 2018, Held In Secret released their debut EP “Dawnbreaker” (Produced by Dark Moon Productions). After a year of performances, our protagonists came together in the studio once again to produce their sophomore effort called “Nomads” set for release on May 29, 2020.

Taking pride in what they do, Held in Secret ensures a wild ride for their audience as Zephyr climbs structures while scream-rapping extra multisyllabic lines; Lamothe, Gunn, and Sollazzo sing backup while shredding, jumping around and headbanging; often jumping off stage to get in the pit. The intense stage presence continues with Lemieux banging it out, full throttle behind the kit.

Held In Secret is just warming up, they have more live shows planned, as well as more music has been written ready to follow “Nomads”. Keep an ear out!

Back in the summer of 2002, co-founders and fellow guitar players, Frank Kelly and Jet Phil recruited good friends Mike Plant (Sword) and drum god Michel “Away” Langevin (Voivod) to release Paradises 1st album “Rock Anthropologists on the Kon Tiki Voyage”. Summer of 2004, the usual suspects were rounded-up including a collaboration of Voivod’s late but great Denis “Piggy” D’Amour to work on Paradise’s follow-up record “Hotel”. Now in 2020, composed of Frank Kelly (guitars), Fred Kelly (bass), RL Black (vocals), Fred Crew Grrr (guitars) and Mat Hias (drums), Paradise, like a phoenix that is reborn from its ashes, have released a new eponymous album that sways on the line between hard stoner rock and pure heavy metal that was mixed and mastered by Kevin Jardine of  Slaves On Dope. From the opening piece and future classic “Straight From Hell” to the album closer “Free in Exile”, Paradise delivers an album where the balance between catchy riffs, attitude, intensity, and melodies is perfect.

“Fans of melodic heavy rock, there’s a new sheriff in town!” – Jano Lapin

“Solid, driving Hard Rock from the quagmires of Quebec!” – Reek Of STOOM

“Brilliant from start to finish !” – Stoner Rock Army

“A record that growls like a hungry beast” – ARP Média

“The synergy of this quintet gives the listener a proper kick in the ass needed to remember why we fell in love with the format. They also lend proof as to why heavy metal is the cornerstone of the myriad of hard rock subgenres. Blistering guitar riffs, thundering drums, and of course ample swipes at stuffy establishment rules.” – Boston Rock Radio

“The album opens with “Straight From Hell” and it is an adrenaline high. It is an unmistakable straight forward rock construction of verse-bridge-chorus, repeat, repeat, and the dial is set on stadium anthem. RL Black’s vocals are about as rock and roll as you can get – strong clean singing with a gruff edge. The lead breaks are short to fit in with the song structure, and they are pretty metal. I like the brand they have going here. It is great driving music, great drinking music. I would be stoked to see Paradise on the list of bands at a festival because you can just feel from these songs that they are going to put on a good show on stage.”  – Flying Fiddlesticks Music Blog

Montreal summer of 2002. First, they got drunk, then proceeded to forge “volcanic rock” and chose a name: Paradise. The next day, they came up with a title for their first album: Rock Anthropologists on the Kon Tiki Voyage. Obviously they were still drunk. Co-founders and fellow guitar players, Frank Kelly and Jet Phil, still thinking that they had a great concept on their hands, started the rock riff machine and came up with a bunch of kick-ass rock and roll. Pretty soon, every track was assigned a title and, what do you know, they were all taken from a Kon-Tiki drink menu. It all made a lot of sense…

Still, without any lyrics to complete the recipe, they set out to find someone crazy enough to work on their project. Through a mutual friend, rock promoter François Lalancette, they were introduced to singer-songwriter Richard Eusanio who was more than crazy enough to jump in feet first. Within days, the record started to take shape. By this time, also on board was guitar master and Sword’s axeman Mike Plant. Paradise was happening…

Frank and Phil then recruited good friends, underground icon Xavier Caféine and drum god Michel “Away” Langevin of Voivod, to help out. Pretty soon Paradise became big and loud…

The record was then sent to Glen Robinson (Voivod, Tea Party) to be mixed and mastered. Fall of 2002 Paradise came alive with the release of Rock Anthropologists on the Kon Tiki Voyage.

Summer of 2004: The boys were now ready for another roller-coaster ride. The usual suspects were rounded-up, including bass man Fred Kelly. Now transported from the beaches of the South Pacific to the famous and even infamous hotels of this world, they began to work on Paradise’s follow-up “Hotel”. Everybody was ready for the trip.

During the sessions in the summer of 2004, they were blessed with the inspirational collaboration of Voivod’s guitar pioneer, the late but great Denis “Piggy” D’Amour who left his stamp on a couple of titles before losing his battle to illness in august of 2005. Mixed and mastered again by Glen Robinson, Paradise’s Hotel was released in the winter of 2005 and once again it all made a lot of sense.

2019: With the will of the volcanic rock gods, the resurrection of Paradise was inevitable. Today composed of Frank Kelly (guitars), Fred Kelly (bass), Blacky (vocals), Fred Crew Grrr (guitars) and Mat Hias (drums), Paradise, like a phoenix that is reborn from its ashes, releases a new eponymous album that sways on the line between hard rock and pure heavy metal (mixed and mastered by Kevin Jardine from Slaves On Dope). From the opening piece and future classic “Straight From Hell” to the final “Free in Exile”, through “Hitting On All Sixes” and “Long Gone”, Paradise delivers an album where the balance between catchy riffs, attitude, intensity, and melodies is perfect.

So all you rockers, metalheads and soon to be converts should be prepared for a ride through hell, with Paradise.

“While some of the material is more fitting to be described as “cinematic rock” due to the instrumental muzak feel of the songs’ structure, this album possesses the punch of a Dream Theater release and the momentum of a King Crimson record.” – Metal Injection

“‘Cast Zenith’ is music that has intelligence and depth, music that takes the listener on an involving journey. This is a great start from this impressive trio and one which promises much for the future, Alizarin are a band that we definitely need to keep an eye on.” – Prog Radar

“Creating songs that can grip the standard listener and help expand their ideas and thoughts on what music should and can be. That’s what makes great prog truly great, and on that note the debut album Cast Zenith is a great album by a fantastic band.” – Metal Assault

“There is a lightness, space and confidence on this album, and it certainly doesn’t come across as a self-released debut, but rather from guys who have been around the block. Jazzy prog metal (love the distorted chorded fretless bass on “Anomaly”) which is worth hearing.” – Progressor

“There is plenty of variety on this all-instrumental debut. Alizarin have produced a stunning debut, showing compositional chops and instrumental prowess.” – Progressive Rock Fanatics

Alizarin – Cinematic rock/metal centered around brooding melodies, wrapped in epic compositions.

Born out of the forward-thinking inclinations of guitarist/vocalist Josh Kay in late 2017, Alizarin is on a mission to explore unconventional rock music. In addition to Kay, the group consists of Jon Damon on drums, Terran Fernandez on bass guitar, and Avelino Ramirez on keyboard. Alizarin is based in Los Angeles, CA and endeavors to create compelling, dramatic music that defies rock expectations.

Alizarin released their first full-length album, titled ‘Cast Zenith’, in 2018 and is preparing to release their new album ‘The Last Semblance’ in Summer 2020. Unlike their strictly instrumental debut record, this sophomore release features prominent vocals throughout. Rich harmonies and baritone resonance from Kay’s voice add a new dimension to the music, allowing the band’s sound to expand to truly uncharted territory.

‘The Last Semblance’ covers a wide spectrum of sonic landscapes and emphasizes the melodic journey over deliberate technique. Although Kay is the chief songwriter of Alizarin, the compositions on the new record focus on a balance of each instrument, with less of an emphasis on the domination of guitar solos and a greater exploration of what each musician is capable of. The album draws influence from such groups as Porcupine Tree, Haken, Alice in Chains, Opeth, Portishead, and many more. The results are a sound that is challenging to define, pensive, and often at the crossroads of melody and dissonance.

Keep your eyes and ears peeled for Alizarin on social media and wherever the future of music lives.
