Calgary’s riff wizards Woodhawk were supposed to hit the road this week for their cross Canada tour from March 26th to May 23rd in support of their latest album “Violent Nature” released this past November. The tour, unfortunately like many others was postponed due to the global Covid 19 situation. As of now, the trio will still perform on the last two dates scheduled in British Columbia (listed below).

As Woodhawk waits to reschedule all their tour dates, they’re still very excited to share their new music video ‘Heartstopper’ via its premiere on Metal Injection HERE.

The band adds:

“This video was a lot of fun to make and all of our first time “acting” in anything. Kevin Keegan and Rob Thespian were a pleasure to work with. It was a lot of work in a short amount of time to do this video, but everyone busted their ass off to make it all come together. The video tells the story of a creepy kidnapper who is obsessed with the band, so he kidnaps them and holds them captive in his home. It’s dark, it’s funny, it’s musical. We loved it, and are happy to share it with everyone finally.”

Woodhawk‘s sophomore full length “Violent Nature” steps away from the science fiction themes evident on their previous release 2017’s “Beyond The Sun” and takes a more therapeutic turn. Putting a lot of time and production into the new album with producer Jesse Gander (Rain City Recorders), Woodhawk has worked really hard to capture energy and emotion.

The band explains:

“On previous efforts, we wrote from a science fiction standpoint. It’s where we all were at, at the point in our lives and reflected what we wanted to say and represent. Now, we believe in honesty and find the therapeutic side of music. This album has been an expressive honest view into our lives over the past 2 years.”

For fans of Black Sabbath, The Sword, and Clutch, “Violent Nature” is available on Woodhawk‘s Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, and all major music platforms.

Show Dates:
May 22 – Invermere, BC – Ullr Bar
May 23 – Nelson, BC – The Royal

About:
From the foot of the majestic Rocky Mountains hails Calgary, AB’s rock n’ roll trio Woodhawk. Masters of the straight-ahead riff rock, Woodhawk blends classic rock influences of Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy with smooth grooves, cranked amps, and heavy-hitting drums. The coalescence of melodious vocals, catchy riffs, and dynamic instrumentation creates a vast soundscape for the listener to explore. With lyrical themes of science fiction and sorcery to more recent themes of struggles and triumph, Woodhawk wears their heart on their sleeve.

Woodhawk began in 2014 with the release of a self-titled EP, followed by the critically acclaimed full length “Beyond The Sun” in 2017. A melodically rich and varied album, steeped in science fiction themes and packed with undeniably catchy riffs, “Beyond the Sun” cemented Woodhawk’s status as a desert rock band with unlimited potential to break through into the mainstream. Rather than taking their freewheelin’ brand of lyrical chrono-metal into the comfortable bracket of factory-produced R’n’R, Woodhawk elected to explore the road less traveled.

Returning to Rain City Recorders in Vancouver, BC during February 2019, Woodhawk worked with Jesse Gander (Anciients, Bison, 3 Inches of Blood, Japandroids, Pack AD) to record their sophomore album “Violent Nature”. Over the course of 2 weeks, Woodhawk tracked their strongest effort yet, producing songs that address the struggles of mental health straight on, and laying it all on the line. Woodhawk’s new material abandons the world of fantasy in pursuit of emotional authenticity and self-discovery.

Our heroes’ quest for clarity and independence has landed them on the precipice of ambition and accomplishment. It’s a true turning point of entry for Woodhawk’s lofty yet assertive life-goals. The elegant anthems and pulsing chords of the next phase in the group’s sonic evolution can scarcely be contained. Grounded with one foot in the present and another in the dynamic future, Woodhawk’s outlook is as boundless as their command of their genre. With the new album due out on November 2, 2019, their intelligence, inventiveness and an uncanny knack for generating timeless tunes are ready to flood the senses and tug at the spirit with an easy-going nonchalance that embraces the audience with confidence and jean-jacketed arms.

Woodhawk features guitarist Turner Midzain, bassist Mike Badmington, and drummer Kevin Nelson. They have taken the stage at the Commodore Ballroom, Sled Island, and UP+DT, in addition to multiple Canadian tours. They have also shared the stage in support of Airbourne, Truckfighters, Elder, and The Shrine. Woodhawk has their sights set on touring North America and Europe to bring their highly energetic and captivating live performance to new audiences.

“Their brand of this style sounds far more refreshing and has a modern rock ‘n roll kind of aura to go along, slightly ringing in signs of alternative influence. The end result is as if Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy had a child born in the age of Chevelle. With that said, this is immaculate. ” – Indy Metal Vault

“Violent Nature kicks off with the slithering riffs of “Snake in the Grass,” which comes crawling up slowly before striking with a venomous fuzz-riffy attack, and a soaring, fist-raising chorus. “Weightless Light” gets my head nodding right away with a solid stoner rock riff, while giving off a pretty decent Monster Truck vibe in the chorus – I can see why they made it the pre-release single.” – Hellbound

“This is what music is about. When you put yourself out there, you connect with others on a deeper level and that’s always a win.” – The Music Below

“going by the lead single “Weightless Light” it seems like whatever they’re making the songs about, Woodhawk still bring the same sense of songcraft to their material, which is always good to know.” – The Obelisk

Calgary, Canada’s Black Pestilence have announced its sixth studio album “Hail the Flesh” arriving on May 1, 2020 with the single “Spurn All Gods” premiering on NoCleanSinging HERE.

The abrasive sounds of Black Pestilence are contrived of black metal, punk, and noise, blurring the borders between genres and bringing a sonic assault to listeners around the world.

“Hail the Flesh” has been in the works for a year and a half, and it is the most mature and polished effort from the band since they began creating chaos in 2008.

Band founder, bassist and vocalist Valax adds:

“‘Hail The Flesh’ will be fast, and chaotic. Lyrically, for it, I talk about glorifying the carnal lifestyle and celebrating Earthly pleasures and indulgences. I am inspired by so many different avenues for lyrics. Without sounding too cliche, most of the lyrics are about Satanism, but not on a theistic level, just true, carnal, humanistic Satanism. Many other songs are also about social issues.”

Suggested for fans of Municipal Waste, Midnight, and Cradle of Filth, “Hail The Flesh” will be available on Bandcamp along with their previous releases.

Over the course of twelve years, Black Pestilence has released five full-length albums, filmed four music videos, and performed all over Canada and Europe. They have also shared the stage with a number of notable bands including The Black Dahlia Murder, Toxic Holocaust, Absu, Skeletonwitch, and Wednesday 13.

“if you’re looking for raw and grimy Black metal without frills, Black Pestilence is for you. Enjoyable ‘no-nonsense no compromises’ rage.” – Metal Storm

“Black Pestilence’s knack for composing catchy yet coarse material is affirmed and bodes exceedingly well for the future.” – Worship Metal

“Black Pestilence have crafted some top quality songs that are catchy yet still nasty. It’s a rabid mix of black metal nastiness and punk energy, and has some razor sharp riffing.” – The Killchain

“Black Pestilence was to follow up on stage. Their sound is better experienced live. They started straight with fast classic Crust/Punk sound, just to merge it later in a Black Metal-Punk amalgamation. They were like the living proof of the genre’s evolution. The crowd got engaged and seemed pleased and excited all throughout the show. They sounded amazing and their performance was impressive. They seemed very proficient and technical with their work and the result was a blast.” – Din Intunerec

“Wherever your allegiance lies, be it Metal or Punk, you should not be disappointed with ‘Urban Hell Rhythmics’. And please do not hesitate to check it out live if the opportunity arises. You will not regret it!” – Metal Jacket Magazine

About:
Omniarch was formed from the ashes of two former bands, Netherward and This is War. Morgan Lambert (guitar), Mason Wilson (guitar), Jon Hofmann (bass), Mackenzie LaHaye (vocals), and  Henry Giesbrecht (drums) who had played gigs together in separate bands, had always entertained the idea of joining forces. Eventually, conditions allowed for the amalgamation of the two bands into a new and wholly different alloy of metal and formed the beginning of Omniarch.

Giesbrecht, the original drummer, added a new dynamic to the band with his fresh approach to metal song structures. Eventually, Giesbrecht moved on and made way for Sean Higgins to step in and make his own indelible mark on the band with his nuanced sense of rhythm and pace. The disparate and yet congruous influences have come together to showcase a truly unique and exciting band, full of opportunity.

Each Omniarch song starts with a collaboration between Wilson and Lambert to determine the riffs, which are then brought to the rhythm section where they are morphed into a  cohesive idea that is splattered with aggressive technical death metal vocals with themes surrounding history, fantasy/science fiction, and mythology.

Omniarch is just getting started, as of spring 2020 they have a fresh self-titled release out on May My 8th with plenty more music coming down the pipe. Watch out for them on the live circuit and take your chance to witness a compelling live show that challenges boundaries.

“Combining the influential sounds of Converge, Death from Above 1979 and Lightning Bolt, Montreal’s Gorlvsh (pronounced “Gore-Lush”) is dead set on adding some rowdiness and weirdness to the sonic landscape. We don’t know if they are, as they claim, “Montreal’s sickest guitar-less band,” but from what we can tell they make a hell of a racket that combines math rock angularity, crushing metallic riffs, off-kilter rhythms and a few catchy hooks in there for good measure.” – Decibel Magazine
“The bass tone is maybe more important than you realize, because Gorlvsh don’t use a guitar. It’s just bassist Nick Boucher slinging the riffs in ways that provide a lot more than groove, drummer Noah Baxter working in an exhilarating amount of intricacy to go along with a lot of skull-busting, and vocalist Isaac Ruder adding both bleeding-edge intensity and melodic hooks. The result is music that’s sometimes bizarre and mentally unbalancing, sometimes gut-slugging, and sometimes downright enthralling — and rarely follows a straight line.” – No Clean Singing

“GORLVSH Offer Some Good Vibes Hardcore With New City Vibe” – Metal Injection

“With varying tempos, drawn out percussion, desperate and throat shredding roars, New City Vibe is the epitome of a modern hardcore record. Gorlvsh delivering on their promise of punk-sensibilities and metal ruthlessness.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Blending Dillinger Escape Plan–esque angular complexity with punk snarl and groovy riffs reminiscent of Mutoid Man, Gorlvsh may not have been what the death metal/grindcore crowd at L’Esco were expecting, but they were one of the most fun and most unique local bands I’ve seen in a good while.” – Bucketlist Music Reviews

L-R: Noah Baxter (Drums), Nick Boucher (Bass), Isaac Ruder (Vox) – Photo Credit: Alexis Martin

Crashing out of Montreal, Canada, comes the latest in new city groove in the form of GORLVSH. This power trio hails themselves as Montreal’s Sickest Guitar-less Band, and what they lack in guitar they make up for with a tornado of crushing riffs, a dash of poppy hooks and fucked up rhythms.

They combine their technical wankery with gutter punk sensibilities to bring a bizarre, mathy, metallic hardcore-esque punk sound with inspiration from Death From Above and Lightning Bolt. This bass/drum/banshee trio works hard on their music together with Nick (bass) starting with a bag of riffs, Noah (drums) adding complexity and then Isaac (vocals) writes lyrics about whatever inspires him that day and the result is unique, sludgy, metallic hardcore that can only be GORLVSH.

Even with their DIY attitudes, the sound is produced and performed phenomenally and they write their music with the live show in mind. They want people to be excited to experience something new and in 2020, they will release their first full length album “New City Vibe” on June 5th via No List Records and Ancient Temple Recordings for cassette version.

About:

Lutharö hails from Hamilton, Canada and this group of motivated musicians is bringing a fresh take on heavy metal to listeners around the world.

Meticulously blending a range of sounds from death metal to power metal, Lutharö is quality extreme music for all audiences. They formed in 2013 and with furious passion and drive, quickly established themselves at the forefront of the local metal scene.

Vocalist Krista Shipperbottom takes inspiration from everyday life events to create the powerful lyrics which she then belts out to the energetic guitar work performed by Victor Bucur and John Raposo. The powerful low end comes from bassist Chris Pacey and keeping everything together is Duval Gabraiel on drums. The highly streamlined group works collaboratively on each track to ensure a unique and diverse final product.

Over the years, Lutharö has grown into their distinctive sound, emerging with a heavy and dark formula that gets fans moving. In 2018, they released their debut EP “Unleash The Beast” to great reception and are set to follow it up in 2020 with their sophomore release “Wings of Agony”.Catchy riffs, blazing solos and vocals ranging from vicious growls to cleans that will send a chill down your spine, make Lutharö a well-rounded powerhouse of a band that brings beauty, aggression and skill to the genre.

Their unbridled stage domination has been apparent with live gigs alongside Unleash the Archers, Alestorm, and The Agonist. Even with an already impressive resume, Lutharö is just getting started.

“Wings of Agony” is due out March 27, 2020.

“Along comes Canada, showing the world that independent unsigned metal bands can kick just as much ass, if not more, than any act on the Nuclear Blasts or Metal Blades or Roadrunners out there. Now on their third EP since 2015, Ontario’s Lutharö keep going from strength to strength as their sound expands… pick up Wings Of Agony – digitally or physically – and support independent artists who are as good as this. If the sheer impact behind Lutharö can’t convince you that the metal community continues to go from strength to strength, then I do not want to be your friend. 9/10. Fantastic.” – Metal Observer

“Bringing a fresh take on Heavy Metal to listeners around the world, this up-and-coming Canadian band returns with a darker yet still very melodic sound in their brand new (and excellent) EP… Krista and her henchmen are undeniably talented, crazy for metal music and extremely focused on what they do, spreading their wings all over Canada and soon the world with their breathtaking music for our total delight.” – The Headbanging Moose

“Should you feel the need for either power metal or melodic death metal that’s just a little bit different, “Wings of Agony” is definitely for you.” – Skull Fracturing Metal

“Epic in its ambition, scope and delivery, it is a powerhouse of a release, combining elements of power metal and thrash with accurate alactrity. With each of the five songs linked by a theme of following your dreams and passions, it has a consistency of approach that permeates every pore of its being. The songs are superbly written and constructed, with plenty of thought put into them, and this is aided by the hugely complementary performances from each of the five band members, and especially the wonderful use of clean and growled vocals… sort of like Lacuna Coil but without the symphonic elements. This is a magnificent slice of powerful heavy metal from a band that deserve every accolade that will undoubtedly come their way when this hits the shelves at the end of the month. Glorious in extremis.” – Uber Rock

Tzimani Streaming Self-Titled EP, Set For Reissue March 27th On Bonita Steel Records

+ Vinyl Out In July via Diabolic Might Records

Tzimani, a duo comprised of the Vazquez brothers, whose sound is part the burgeoning revival of the new wave of American heavy metal, were supposed to be on the road this March and April across the USA and Canada for a twenty-seven date tour in support of their reissued debut self-titled EP on Bonita Steel Records and Diabolic Might Records for vinyl. But like many other bands in the metal community, they were forced to postpone all their dates due to the Covid 19 pandemic affecting the world.

The heavy metal brothers bring forth twin guitar leads, melodic solos, catchy choruses and a sharp, but raspy vocal technique that make you feel like your right in the middle of the 1980s heavy metal explosion. They echo the sounds of legends such as Guns N’ Roses, Mötley Crüe, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. On their last few runs, Tzimani has shared the stage with national and international touring acts such as Huntress, Scarlet Canary, Final Drive, Joan Ov Arc, Scattered Hamlet, Bewitcher, Mothership, Truck Fighters, and more.

Before the reissued EP officially drops on March 27th, the duo have teamed up with Metal-Rules.com for its exclusive full stream below. The EP also features covers of Dio’s ‘Night People’ and W.A.S.P.’s ‘Doctor Rockter’ along with tracks from their 2017 demo.

“Despite sparking synapses associated with a variety of high-octane hard rock and metal birthed in the days of yore, this self titled debut EP genuinely feels fresh-faced. Pull on your leather, put the pedal to the metal, and smell the gasoline …” – Sleeping Village Reviews

“One of the best bands to come out of the San Diego area and another great signing by Metal Assault Management. These tracks fill you with that 70s-80s Heavy Metal you love and need in your life, but it’s updated just enough to give their own flavoring. What makes this even better is that this band is two brothers, Eddie and Sebastian Vazquez. It’s great to see family that gets together for the power of metal. They are going to go far if they are capable of this so early in their career.” – That Drummer Guy

“Considering the relative short time together as Tzimani, it’s easy to gauge the band’s great instincts when it comes to songwriting, performance, and execution. They have all the tools to get the beer flowing and the fists flying high, and that’s the name of the game to building an audience in the metal landscape.” – Dead Rhetoric

“The song [Overdrive] is a thrashing speed demon of a hit, only ever slowing down to release a soaring refrain with a powerful vocal delivery. The guitars are downright filthy in their approach, ripping through solos and arpeggios with ease, not to mention the blistering pace of the verse riff.” – New Noise Magazine

“This was only an EP, can you imagine how their full length will be like? This nice little teaser will have your speed demon wanting more.” – Ugh Metal

Montreal, QC’s brutal melodic death five-piece [Evertrapped] is revealing the artwork and track listing for their fourth studio album “The Last Extinction” set for release on May 22, 2020. The album marks the band’s return to follow up their highly praised 2015 album “Under The Deep” and showcases their darkest, almost apocalyptic overtone compared to previous releases.

With influences ranging from death metal to melodic death primarily, along with some classic thrash and speed metal, “The Last Extinction” overall will give fans a very heavy post-apocalypse feel. It’s meant to mix the dark and light of the end of all things. Fans of Arch Enemy, Persefone, Whitechapel, Death and Fleshgod Apocalypse will feel the whirlwind of aggression.

The band’s lyrics come from two places. One from the dark and exaggerated metaphors for things actually based on personal events, the other is lyrics that are only loosely based in reality and have an almost fantasy-like appeal. Sometimes the reality can be based on what could be the actual state of the world as it is or an image of a future where the world is on the brink of an apocalypse, which can even relate to the current global situation created by Covid 19 that has affected so many.

Vocalist James Brookes explains the album in further detail:

“Our new album ‘Last Extinction’ is almost an amalgamation of what we did on “The Anomaly” (2012) and “Under The Deep” (2015). On “The Anomaly” there was room for some clear vocals and it had an overall softer sound (within the confines of death metal) whereas “Under The Deep” went straight for the throat with very little room to stop and breathe and no clean vocals at all. Either way works just fine, but this new album “The Last Extinction” offers both of these aspects. When it gets heavy, it gets really heavy but there are plenty of parts that open up and give way to clear vocals or a nice blend of gutturals and clean and in some cases, some types of riffs that [Evertrapped] has never really experimented with before. Each song takes the listener on a quasi-progressive death metal adventure, but every now and then keeps coming back to simpler catchy riffs made for some hardcore headbanging.”

The band’s name is intentionally written with enclosed brackets to signify the trappings of modern life for all of us and how people, despite their best attempts to break out of the mold are still affixed to a simple controlled existence and futility.
