New Album Out Now! “Trail of Souls: Samsara”

Releasing the re-imagined full-length “Trail of Souls: Samsara” in July 2022, Seattle and Los Angeles-based heavy metal four-piece RivetSkull are sharing a new lyric video for the track “Mystified”. The song is about dealing with the fears of stepping out of your comfort zone and considering that sometimes it’s easier to simply take solace by getting high and letting your mind wander to another place. A journey of finding your way out of the dark and into the light.

Watch and listen to “Mystified” via its lyric video premiere on Bravewords HERE.

In addition to unveiling their new lyric video, RivetSkull recently launched a merch line called “Zero Hate” (https://www.rivetskull.com/zerohate) where proceeds from sales will be donated to a non-profit called Metal for Good, which uses the positive values of rock, metal, and other alternative subcultures to make a positive difference in communities. More info can be found at https://metalforgood.org/about/

The band comments on Zero Hate Merch.

“We like to make a difference and heavy metal has always been a refuge, RivetSkull is committed to working toward a world of #ZEROHATE. 100% of the profits from RivetSkull’s ZERO HATE merch line will be donated to Metal for Good to help support programs that change lives through the collective power and support of the heavy metal community.”

Rivetskull‘s latest full-length “Trail of Souls: Samsara” is a complete re-recording of their self-published 2020 album “Trail of Souls”. After self-recording and releasing the debut album during the global pandemic, the band revisited their songs with professional production to capture the massive sound that fans have come to expect from their live shows.

The band comments on re-recording and re-releasing the album:

“Our current sound is a petri dish of our combined experiences up until now: the things we’ve listened to, the things we’ve played… Trail of Souls: Samsara is a re-recording of our self-recorded/ self-produced 2020 album Trail of Souls. This time around, we recorded it organically, all together in one room at London Bridge Studio. A really good studio produces a really good sound: it’s either tuned that way professionally or it’s evolved that way through history. You work differently in that type of environment, it elevates the performance…It’s like if a doctor is doing surgery in their living room, they’re not going to perform as well.

“Trail of Souls: Samsara” has an epic, yet nostalgic feel. Lyrically, vocalist Chad McMurray writes from the heart about things people can relate to, nothing is contrived. RivetSkull isn’t trying to write a certain kind of song and they’re not trying to portray a certain image. They’re not trying to be a tough, brutal band. They’re just normal guys who like metal, much like it was in the 70s – 80s. “I don’t know, maybe we need to bring cod pieces back?” jokes McMurray.

Recorded at London Bridge Studio (Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Queensrÿche) and produced by Matt Hyde (Slayer, Deftones, Seether), “Trail of Souls: Samsara” promises much more than a sonic retouch of the original. The reworked collection features new cover artwork and a previously unreleased recording of a cover of Aerosmith’s “King and Queens.”

RivetSkull keeps it classic and is recommended for fans of Judas Priest, Def Leppard, and Armored Saint.

About:
It would be easy to call RivetSkull a traditional heavy metal band, but they’re so much more than that. RivetSkull has taken the very roots of heavy metal and forged it into something new and fresh. Spawned from the same DNA that created the beasts that roamed the dark valleys of Birmingham, the foothills of the Cascades, and the plains of Texas, there’s no denying RivetSkull’s heavy metal heritage. This is hard-hitting music blasted over record store chatter, the buzzing of a tattoo gun, or the revving of a motorcycle engine. But, as any metalhead will tell you, heavy metal is more than just a genre: it’s therapy, it’s community, it’s a style – and it’s a movement. And it’s always evolving.

RivetSkull has created a modern sound that’s as unique as each member’s influences, from punk to country, from alternative to funk. Listening to RivetSkull, it’s easy to envision the band’s live show: Chad McMurray’s clean vocals soaring over a sea of bobbing bodies in black band t-shirts, Mark X. Plog’s boundary-defying guitar ascending over raised beers and outstretched metal horns, Michael Robson’s emphatic drums and Mark Hopkins’ booming bass rattling the bones beneath black jeans and denim vests. Like good metal – you’ll feel it in your core as much as you’ll hear it in your ears. All of this is brought to you by a dedicated and hard-working band of brothers. They are RivetSkull and they’re bringing the past into the future.

Releasing the re-imagined full-length “Trail of Souls: Samsara” this past July, Seattle and Los Angeles-based heavy metal four-piece RivetSkull are sharing a new lyric video for the track “Narcissus”. Along with its unveiling, the band is launching a merch line called “Zero Hate” (https://www.rivetskull.com/zerohate) where proceeds from sales will be donated to a non-profit called Metal for Good, which uses the positive values of rock, metal, and other alternative subcultures to make a positive difference in communities. More info can be found at https://metalforgood.org/about/

The band comments on both the track and Zero Hate Merch.

“We chose “Narcissus” as its lyrics decry hateful people, their leadership, speech, and violence. It shines the light on world leaders who convince others to do their bidding, regardless of cost. We like to make a difference and heavy metal has always been a refuge, RivetSkull is committed to working toward a world of #ZEROHATE. 100% of the profits from RivetSkull’s ZERO HATE merch line will be donated to Metal for Good to help support programs that change lives through the collective power and support of the heavy metal community.”

Seattle and Los Angeles-based heavy metal four-piece RivetSkull’s re-imagined full-length album is now available on all digital music services. “Trail of Souls: Samsara” is a complete re-recording of the band’s self-published 2020 album “Trail of Souls”. After self-recording and releasing their debut album during the global pandemic, RivetSkull revisited their songs with professional production that captures the massive sound that fans have come to expect from their live shows. In support of their album’s release, the band drops their next music video for the single, “Forever”, which can be viewed and heard on NWOTHM Full Albums YouTube Channel at https://youtu.be/_DKweQCzVDk

The band shares their thoughts on the upcoming release:

“We originally wrote ‘Forever’ in 2019 when the world was, once again, in a strange place and the US was experiencing a significant political and religious divide. Two years later, the world would be forever changed by Covid. Then again, in 2022 with more war in Ukraine, inflation, and political and religious agendas driving even more distance between us. ‘Forever’ is about the repeating cycle of life’s ups and downs and changes that must forever face and come to terms with.”

Seattle and Los Angeles-based heavy metal four-piece RivetSkull’s re-imagined full-length album was released on July 8th. The second single they released was Aerosmith’s classic “Kings and Queens”, a track they say was inspirational to them and that respect is evident in their musicianship and visually in the accompanying music video. They share their thoughts on the release:

“Aerosmith has always been a crossover band between hard rock and heavy metal. Several of their songs were inspirational to us, but none quite as much as ‘Kings and Queens.’ The original was a masterpiece of drama, intensity, and a showcase of vocal skill. All of the years of listening to that song and growing as musicians are poured into this recording. We’re proud of how it all came together.”

RivetSkull is professional through and through and takes pride in maintaining the old-school video they grew up on. When it comes to seeing them live, they sound like an album. There are no backing tracks. Vocalist Chad McMurray’s 9 years of study with Maestro David Kyle (vocal coach to Geoff Tate, Layne Staley, Ann Wilson) means the vocals come across strong and clear just like the album. RivetSkull is a fairly new band but McMurray, drummer Michael Robson, and guitarist Mark X. Plog have been playing together for 7-8 years now. They have a great rapport musically and onstage, and seasoned bassist Mark Hopkins, who used to own a recording studio, brings a great ear for music.

Recorded at London Bridge Studio (Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Queensrÿche) and produced by Matt Hyde (Slayer, Deftones, Seether), “Trail of Souls: Samsara” promises much more than a sonic retouch of the original.

The reworked collection features new cover artwork and is recommended for fans of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Def Leppard.

RivetSkull Dive Into The Turmoil Of Relationships With Video For “Crash and Burn”

Seattle and Los Angeles-based heavy metal four-piece RivetSkull’s re-imagined full-length album was released on July 8th of this year. “Trail of Souls: Samsara” is a complete re-recording of the band’s self-published 2020 album “Trail of Souls”. The first single released was “Crash and Burn”, along with a psychedelic video. Of the single, RivetSkull says:

“‘Crash and Burn’ is about the pitfalls of relationships. Though you can try to stay clear of danger, sometimes you can’t help but fall into the same traps! The new recording and production convey the drive and momentum a song about recklessness should be swimming in. We think we got there with this song and all the others on the album.”

Oozing energy and easy-to-move-to vibes, the single brings back the classic sound of the 90s, played with precision and expert musicianship. The members of RivetSkull have been playing together previously for many years and vocalist Chad McMurray has training from Maestro David Kyle (vocal coach to Geoff Tate, Layne Staley, Ann Wilson), ensuring that the band is able to deliver a high level of production and professionalism. After self-recording and releasing their debut album during the global pandemic, they’ve revisited their songs with professional production that captures the massive sound that fans have come to expect from their live shows.

Since its release, “Trail of Souls: Samsara” has only been gaining momentum. Within the first month of its release, RivetSkull was fortunate enough to be featured on Band in Seattle, KISW’s Loud and Local Band of the Week, and they were interviewed for the Concerts that Made Us podcast.

Recorded at London Bridge Studio (Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Queensrÿche) and produced by Matt Hyde (Slayer, Deftones, Seether), “Trail of Souls: Samsara” promises much more than a sonic retouch of the original. The reworked collection features new cover artwork and the previously unreleased recording of a cover of Aerosmith’s “Kings and Queens”.

Recommended for fans of Dio, Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest, RivetSkull is well suited for those with a taste for classic metal.

It would be easy to call RivetSkull a traditional heavy metal band, but they’re so much more than that. RivetSkull has taken the very roots of heavy metal and forged them into something new and fresh.

But, as any metalhead will tell you, heavy metal is more than just a genre: it’s therapy, it’s a community, it’s a style – and it’s a movement.

The album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY) explained:

CM: It’s got an epic, yet nostalgic feel. Lyrically, I write from the heart about things people can relate to, nothing is contrived. We’re not trying to write a certain kind of song and we’re not trying to portray a certain image. We’re not trying to be a tough, brutal band. We’re just normal guys who like metal, much like it was in the 70s – 80s. I don’t know, maybe we need to bring cod pieces back?

Track by track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY) explained:

1. Crash and Burn
“‘Crash and Burn’ is about the pitfalls of relationships. Though you can try to stay clear of danger, sometimes you can’t help but fall into the same traps. The new recording and production conveys the drive and momentum a song about recklessness should be swimming in.  We think we got there with this song and all the others on the album.”

2. Forever
We originally wrote ‘Forever” in 2019 when the world was, once again in a strange place and the US was becoming more and more divided thanks to religion and politics. One year later we would all forever be changed by Covid. Then again in 2022 with more war in the Ukraine, inflation and more political and religious agendas driving yet more distance between all of us. ‘Forever’ refers to the repeating cycle of life’s ups and downs and changes that we forever have to face and come to terms while navigating the waters to get there.

3. Mystified
“Mystified” has to do with fears of stepping out of your comfort zone and sometimes it’s easier to simply take solace by getting high and letting your mind wander to another place.  A journey of finding your way out of the dark and into the light.

4. Another Way To Heaven
Another Way To Heaven deals with a number of things. Is there life after death? Is there really a heaven or god? They want to explore other worlds and if there is really a heaven,  is dying the only way to get there? Now the ending takes a bit of turn and delves into the impact just one person can have. Known as the “father” of the atomic bomb Robert Oppenheimer’s quote taken from Hindu scripture The Bhagavad-Gita, “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds,” makes an appearance and literally means the world-destroying time.

5. Narcissus
“Narcissus” touches on world leaders who convince others to do their bidding regardless of cost. Shining light on the repercussions and madness of blindly following narcissists in leadership by speaking from the narcissist’s twisted point of view.

6. Trail Of Souls
It’s easy to become star-struck or think you’re better than someone else. Particularly people close to you. A reminder to not be blinded by the stars in your eyes or forget those that helped you get where you are.

7. It’s Not Enough
Life, however long it may be, is constantly changing and evolving. From birth, youth, adulthood and death, many reinventions happen throughout its course. Do we ever have enough? How much is enough?

8. Kings and Queens (Aerosmith cover)
Aerosmith has always been a crossover band between hard rock and heavy metal.

American traditional heavy metal act Rivetskull has a new video for their single “Narcissus” in support of their debut album “Trail of Souls” recently released on February 7, 2020.

Rivetskull brings a comforting familiarity reminiscent of 70’s-80’s metal/hard rock albeit with a modern twist. On “Trail of Souls” there are a few longer “epic” songs, and some shorter almost punk heavy pop songs, if you will. Something for everyone for various moods. The band expands their view of the album:

“We’d like to think we did a good job of delivering something that is familiar, yet fresh. Our musical tastes are all over the board and I think that comes across without being too manic and all over the place hopefully! Though it’s not a concept album or anything, there is a common theme that carries throughout the album and ties it all together.”

Stoked to get their music out to fans, Rivetskull acknowledges the growing demand for “NWOTHM” New Wave Of Traditional Heavy Metal and are excited about the response they’ve gotten in such a short time. The single “Narcissus” explores humanity dealing with narcissists from neighbors and friends to world leaders with a captivating visual story.

For fans of Dio, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Rainbow, the video can be watched via its premiere on Metal-Rules.com HERE.

“Trail of Souls”  is available for stream and download on Bandcamp, Apple Music, Spotify.

RivetSkull is an echo from the birth of heavy metal. A reflection of a magical moment in time when heavy metal first appeared in the 70’s and 80’s. Evolution of the genre? Not happening here. This is the Jurassic Park of heavy metal, the regrowth of that same DNA that created the beasts of metal that first roamed this planet.

What you will find is heavy, melodic and riff laden music with clear and strong vocals. There is a strong groove with prominent bass lines and tight fitting guitar riffs. The singing will take you back to a day when skill, melody, power and style mattered. All of this brought to you by a dedicated and hard working band of brothers.

Their debut album “Trail of Souls” was released February 7, 2020.
