Vancouver’s Rebel Priest Encourages Dark Obsessions With “Vulgar Romance” Off “Lost In Tokyo”

New EP “Lost In Tokyo” Out August 13th via Batcave Records

L-R – Jayme Black – Vocals/Bass, Nate Pole – Drums/Vocals, Benny Kemp – Guitars/Vocals

Hailing from Vancouver, Canada, Rebel Priest is the denim and leather-clad trio that has been whipping across stages and pushing out bangin’ albums since 2014. This year they are putting out a new EP called “Lost In Tokyo”, which will be available on August 13th via Batcave Records.

As the name of the EP hints, most of these tracks were written in Japan in 2019 before the closure, the band has been sitting on them for a year, and the time is finally right for them to come out. The third single off this record is “Vulgar Romance”, a dark groover about people’s interests in serial killers and trying to see behind the mind of the hunter. The band explains the track in more depth:

“This song came across with our interest in other people’s interest in serial killers and what would happen if someone took fandom too far or they actually got to see in the eyes behind the mind. It’s a commentary on what people’s hungers are and the deprivation that one can get if they take their interest to the next level. It’s a bittersweet take on a dark topic, we tried to capture the atmosphere with more of a swing to the song as if you were stalking down the street.”

“Vulgar Romance” can be heard at https://youtu.be/FMgntTZPH7M

In their infancy Rebel Priest started out making a lot of different genres, seeing what they liked, what would mesh, and testing all the styles they liked to see what they could pull off. As of now, the experimentation phase is over, they have focused on rock n’ roll because it’s the most natural thing for them, it comes out easily and they don’t have to think about it, however, this could evolve in the future.

If this four-track EP isn’t enough for the fans out there, don’t fret, Rebel Priest ensures that they aren’t slowing down and they will have more coming out throughout the rest of the year, LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN!

Rebel Priest is bringing the rock and recommended for fans of Rose Tattoo, Deep Purple, and LA Guns.

The EP releases on August 13, 2021 via Batcave Records on the following platforms:

About:
Rebel Priest is a no-nonsense, real-deal rock n’ roll band composed of three seasoned musicians who have been making their way through the Western Canadian rock n roll scene for years. Vocalist/bassist Jayme Black (Lust Boys, The Toxiks); guitarist/vocalist Benny Kemp (Lust Boys, Road Rash); and drummer/vocalist Nate Pole (Kill Matilda, The Toxiks) bring nothing but unadulterated, high energy grease infused Trash N’ Roll!

The band has had the pleasure of touring Japan, and performing alongside bands such as Udo (Accept), Lordi, Diamond Head, Crystal Pistol, Flotsam, and Jetsam along with playing many headlining gigs with the energy of Motorhead meets Motley Crue.
Since forming in 2014, the band has released three studio albums “R’ley Heavy” (2019), Enabler (2017 ), Self-Titled (2015) along with one live record “Dead Alive @ SBC (2017).

Now in 2021, they offering up a slab of new music in the shape of an EP “Lost In Tokyo”, which was written in Japan at the very end of 2019, before the closure, and the band has been sitting on the tracks for over a year. The band even shares a cover rendition of Toronto 80s metal band Slash Puppets’ “When The Whip Comes Down”.

“We had a batch of headbangers and a few didn’t make it, but sometimes songs just need other means to come out. We wanted to set the tone for each one on this EP as opposed to a full-length concept album. Each one is a juggernaut on their own and will stand strong without having to be bound to the others… and as for more music … oh Lemmy tell ya! We aren’t slowing down, we are gonna have stuff coming at ya throughout the rest of the year, LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN!” adds Jayme Black (vocals/bassist).

Recommended for fans of Guns n’ Roses, AC/DC and Motley Crue, Rebel Priest’s new EP “Lost In Tokyo” will be available on August 13th, 2021 via Batcave Records.

Knecht Shares 8-String Guitar Shred w/ New Playthrough “Transformation”

Out Now! Progressive, Instrumental Self-Titled Debut EP

Earlier this July, Joseph Knecht released his debut self-titled EP, a complex journey through progressive metal instrumentals, along with a well-thought-out blend of classic 70s and modern prog. Knecht started out strictly old school, however now he adds modern elements like 8 string guitar and goes for a more modern midrange-focused tone rather than the classic Les Paul through a Marshall sound.

To demonstrate his 8-string shredding, today he shares his latest playthrough video for the track “Transformation”. Knecht explains:

“This was one of the first songs I wrote with my 8 string.  It’s a hard-hitting sludgy mixed meter riff. With a hint of Tesseract in the middle with the staccato Djenty section. This song represents my transformation into the style that I have developed.”

Watch and listen to “Transformation” – https://youtu.be/DoDGGuDK9Hg

Knecht writes and performs all instruments on the EP, except for the drums, which on this release he enlists the help of Jason Stewart who adds his own creative flair to the drum scaffolding. The result is something complex, yet accessible, enjoyable by die-hard prog fans and casual listeners alike.

The EP is recommended listening for fans of Haken, Porcupine Tree, Plini and Liquid Tension Experiment.

“Knecht” is available on the following digital platforms: Spotify, Bandcamp.

About:
Joseph Knecht, from Tabernacle, New Jersey, USA, has been playing music since he was a small child. He started out with piano when he was five and picked up the guitar a year later. Bass came along in high school and he attended Berklee College of Music to further his music education.

Looking to share the music he was writing and playing, he created his instrumental solo project Knecht, where he plays everything from classic rock to more modern progressive metal. He performs originals and covers as well as teaches private guitar lessons.

With influences rooted mainly in progressive and groove metal, he replaces vocals with sweeping, complex guitar melodies that are written like vocal melodies. A typical song starts with the rhythm, for him the rhythm guitars by themselves should be interesting and be able to garner attention through the piece. While he is doing this, he is thinking about what he might want the other instruments to be doing as well as keyboard sounds if there will be keyboards. For the drums, he will program a track for writing and recording purposes, but ultimately leaves it wide open for Jason Stewart.

Knecht’s debut self-titled EP is available on July 16, 2021. It features Jason Stewart on drums and was mixed and mastered by Charles-Henry Volk.

“The lyrical content on The Unholy Grail album is describing an internal struggle with a person who is desperately fighting to make their mark on history and create something profound, that will last through the ages. It expresses the emotions of anger, despair, triumph, will, strength and determination. It deals with the duality conflict of staying true to oneself, remaining pure and with good intentions while being a savage killer, who often enjoys and even craves battle. It’s about the darkness of ambition creeping into one’s soul. In the fantasy aspect, The Unholy Grail tells the tale of a group of elite warriors who have set out on a quest for immortality and are relentless, savage brutes in their pursuit. The Unholy Grail is depicted as a relic that holds this power of immortality. It is a metaphor for the prize of everlasting creation. The warriors become darkened by their lust for power and set out to destroy the kingdom of a corrupt bloodline by beheading the king and usurping the throne. After an impossible battle, they gather their wits and leave the dead behind, as they ride towards the next battle… Did they achieve immortality???

Musically, The Unholy Grail is a blend of both modern and classic styles of Metal from many different facets within the genre. Overall it is an Extreme Metal album that many refer to as Blackened Death Thrash. We are fans of many styles of metal and music in general. We just simply write songs that we enjoy. We never really thought about picking and staying with one style in particular. We feel out the energy our collective ideas bring and let the music write itself in many ways. The riffs on The Unholy Grail are a combination of fast thrash parts, to grinding death parts, mixed with chunky groove sections, gallops, harmonies, blistering and melodic solos, catchy hooks and some technical trickiness to add that extra left hook. Unique and rhythmic bass lines help to drive the pulse and add a new dimension to the mix. The bass does not just follow the riffs and the drums, but is masterfully woven into the mix. The drum work on the album goes from blazing blast beats to pulsing double kicks, savage tom work and a variety of drums rolls and fills to spice things up. The percussive attack sets the perfect tempo to really bring out the flavors of each section. The vocals on the album are brutal and heartfelt. They range from low powerhouse death bellows to growling and fierce mid-range battle cries and topped off with razor-sharp, earsplitting highs that will curdle the thickest blood.

Overall the music on The Unholy Grail is a journey that touches on many different aspects of the metal genre. Fast and aggressive, dark and melodic, and still maintaining a powerful groove for a memorable impression.” – Crusadist

Crusadist is a Chicago-based metal band forged in the fires of death and thrash.

Formed in July of 2017, by founding members Shaun Albro, Aaron Nobles and Kevin Ariel. In February of 2018, Drummer Jason Rak joined the group. After countless auditions and failed attempts to find a second guitarist, they decided to record a 3 song demo to showcase the style and to find the missing piece. The recording took place at Iron Hand Audio in Chicago Illinois and was recorded by Dan Klein. Guitarist Luke Sever agreed to help with the recording and went on to write and record the solos on the demo. Once the demo was finished, it was obvious that the search was over. The lineup had been completed.

Crusadist is:
Shaun Albro ~ Vocalist/Lyricist
Aaron Nobles ~ Guitarist
Luke Sever ~ Guitarist
Kevin Ariel ~ Bass
Jason Rak ~ Drums

Now that everything was falling into place, the band started accepting show offers and began to book shows both locally and regionally. Performing in the surrounding states and opening for national and international acts such as Exmortus, Hatchet, Micawber, The Absence, Depths of Hatred, Kalmah, Vried, Homewrecker, Empyrean Throne, Nile, Terrorizer and Vital Remains. During this time the band continued to write material with plans to record a full-length album.

In March of 2019, Crusadist entered Belle City Sound in Racine Wisconsin to begin recording their debut album “The Unholy Grail” with producer/engineer Chris Djuricic (Origin, Jungle Rot, November’s Doom, Gorgasm, Against The Plagues). Mixing and Mastering duties were then handled by Jeramie Kling ( The Absence, Venom Inc.) and Taylor Nordberg ( The Absence, Soilwork) of Smoke and Mirrors Productions in Spring Hills Florida. The cover art was created by Swedish Artist Par Olofsson (Immolation, Exodus, Unleashed, Aborted, Braindrill, Against The Plagues).

“The Unholy Grail” was released on November 29, 2019 and is available on all major digital distributors, as well as in physical format in digipaks. The digipak layout was designed by Ryan Kasparian of Burial Clothing in Eerie Colorado.

After enduring countless cancelations due to government shutdowns during the scourge of the pandemic, Crusadist kept busy writing music for a follow-up to The Unholy Grail. 2020 was a year of many trials. Their East Coast Tour was canceled, along with several festivals the band was booked to perform at. Crusadist managed to book studio time and record a new single in which they plan to release in the Fall of 2021.

During the Spring of 2020, Crusadist signed a partnership agreement with Extreme Management Group and Senior Manager Greg Shaw. Crusadist will be on tour in September 2021 supporting Inhuman Condition (featuring members of Obituary, Venom Inc., The Absence) along the United States East Coast. TOURANTULA beginning September 4th in Orlando FL and ending Sept 19th in Tampa, FL.

NEWS RELEASE

For fans of In Flames, Amorphis, Avenged Sevenfold

Finland’s AS I MAY New Music Video “Breaking Myself Away”

New Album “Karu” Coming 2022 via Uprising! Records

Gearing up the engines for their third studio album, Finnish modern metallers AS I MAY release their new music video for the lead single “Breaking Myself Away” from their forthcoming album “Karu” due out in 2022 via Uprising! Records.

The video can be viewed at https://youtu.be/GlDFjcJ_vmQ

Stream on Spotify – https://spoti.fi/37u2Ne0

The band comments about the track:

“In “Breaking Myself Away” we are using more vocal power with our three vocalists. We have found our place and space better than before. Also, this song has more rhythm than any song we have ever done.”

As I May is a four-piece modern melodic metal band from Mikkeli, Finland – formed in 2016. The band combines modern elements, yet keeps focus on the heavier side of the music, and they sound like a modern-day US mixture of In Flames and Amorphis, so almost any metal fan would get a treat from listening to the music of these Finns! It’s a mature band, displaying a truly professional attitude towards the modern sound of heavy metal. The soul of the music lies within the catchy melodies and the big choruses.

The band released their debut album “Speak No Evil” in 2017, and got the attention of lots of fans and from the record label Rockshots Records, who decided to sign As I May for the 2019 release of their 2nd album “My Own Creations”. In Asia, the album was released through the label Spiritual Beast.

As I May played a wide array of local Finnish shows and were booked for a European tour, as support for the Brazilian powerhouse-metal act Semblant… and then Covid-19 reared its ugly face, postponing everything for everyone.

The tour is postponed until the spring of 2022 and in the lock-down period, As I May have spent the time, composing and recording their brand-new opus “Karu”, a venture into more modern and direct in-your-face songs. The full length will be released worldwide by Uprising! Records in 2022.

Vela Pulsar Present Dramatically Ethereal Lyric Video For “Reverence Of Being”

Lyric Video Premiere via NoCleanSinging

Out Now! New Album “Memoirs of Unbecoming”

Last year, international melodic black metal act Vela Pulsar released their debut EP “Memoirs of Unbecoming” and now has a lyric video out for the track “Reverence Of Being”. The trio, who live in Toronto, ON and Portland, OR completed the record during the COVID-19 pandemic, which proved challenging and posed difficulties with the various ways it affected their lives.

The band cites that the single is a representation of nearly everything that Vela Pulsar embodies as a band. They explain further:

“’Reverence Of Being’ conveys both a sense of struggle and of overcoming adversity – both physically and within – while being paired with a sense of hope. While not a direct reference, it could be looked at similarly to the Nietzsche quote ‘to live is to suffer, to survive is to find meaning in the suffering,’ and both of those aspects being a part of you and are worth revering. This is shown in the music too, through moments that are both dark and foreboding, and warm and uplifting, leaving you with the conclusion that despite all that’s happening, the only thing you can do is persevere. With the inclusion of orchestrations, acoustic guitar passages, both tribal and blast beat drumming, dark atmospheres, a melodic climax and a soaring ending.”

“The album “Memoirs Of Unbecoming” deals with themes of hope, loss, courage, and perseverance in the wake of uncertainty. Stripping away all that we are and seeing what’s left, in the moments that shape us. This is not just presented lyrically, but musically as well through various musical passages that go from uplifting and catchy, to mournful, sorrowful and brooding. According to the band, the music on this album is deeply personal and emotional to them, and they want their fans to experience and connect with the same emotions they’ve put into it.

“Reverence Of Being” is sorrowful, yet hopeful, and is recommended for fans of Aquilus, Uada and Altar Of Plagues.

The video for “Reverence Of Being” can be viewed and heard via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

“Memoirs Of Unbecoming” was released on December 8, 2020 and available on the following platforms:

2. Reverence Of Being (10:40)

About:
With members residing in both Toronto, ON and Portland, OR, what originally started as a personal project between Ryan Mueller and Samantha Holmes became a more serious band when Samantha proposed doing an album. This led Ryan to recruit his brother (and fellow A Flock Named Murder bandmate) Cam to handle the drums. Thus, Vela Pulsar was born.

At over 30 minutes in length, the debut “Memoirs Of Unbecoming” deals with themes of hope, loss, courage, and perseverance in the wake of uncertainty. Stripping away all that we are and seeing what’s left, in the moments that shape us. This manifested into a swirling and emotional hybrid of symphonic and post-black metal, for fans of Alcest, Uada, Altar Of Plagues, Caladan Brood, Sojourner, Aquilus and Agalloch.

“Textos Raros – Vol. 1 – 2001-2011” Out August 6th via Slick Monkey Records

Out now as of August 6th, Toronto’s White Cowbell Oklahoma present their first archival release “Textos Raros – Vol 1 – 2001-2011” via their very own label Slick Monkey Records. The album features over 40 minutes of eleven rare and never-released digital tracks.

Limited signed/numbered CD versions of “Textos Raros – Vol 1 – 2001-2011” are available on Whitecowbelloklahoma.bandcamp.com along with digital stream and download on Spotify and Apple Music.

Songs such as “Take Me Down to Mexico”, “(Just) Some Things a Man Can’t Keep Inside”, “Southern Grace (Live)” and “Black Mountain Top (Whiskey Woman) (Live)” have only appeared on the vinyl version of 2012’s “Buenas Nachas” whereas other recorded songs “Black Night” (Deep Purple cover) and “Streetknifes ‘R’ Go” never made the final cut of the band’s discography and will be available to be heard for the first time.

Established in 1999 in Toronto, Canada, legendary rock armada White Cowbell Oklahoma has remained a behemoth of over the top rock n’ roll for over two decades. Featuring a nebulous syndicate of low-life participants and a show often compared to Kiss meets The Allman Brothers meet Frank Zappa meets The Tubes, the band has toured Europe and North America countless times, while completely disregarding musical trends, political correctness, and common decency.

The band is recommended for fans of Deep Purple, ZZ Top, and Frank Zappa.

White Cowbell Oklahoma is also working on releasing new music in early 2022 along with North American tour dates starting December 2021 and European dates to begin Spring 2022.

Canada’s Ravenous have announced that their third release “Hubris” is coming out this year and the first single “Die 1000 Deaths” is out now, complete with both English and Japanese animated music videos.

“Hubris” is chock full of anthemic hits and this single may be the most fist-pumping one on the album. According to the band, the aim of the track is to give listeners the drive to break their limits and fight for every shred of glory in their lives – to always strive for the apex and conquer anything that stands in their way. Ravenous share their thoughts on the album:

“Take a journey with us to an arcade tower in Japan and experience the sensory overload equivalent to a Kaiju battle in an early-2000’s anime. Die 1000 Deaths was Rav’s delirious and frantic output in the chemically imbalanced early days of the Covid-19 pandemic and underwent zero changes from its initial structure and tone. He based the lyrics off of Akuma – his favourite street fighter character – to properly represent the feeling and themes of the music. Try and stay calm as Akuma takes over your computer in the Die 1000 Deaths video.”

This song is the perfect introduction to the album as it embodies everything the band wants to represent with the album. It’s fast, busy, symphonic, and tongue-in-cheek, featuring a whirlwind of riffs and breakdowns, three guitar solos (including a guest solo by Aether Realm guitarist Heinrich Yoshio), and was also recorded entirely in Japanese as an alternate bonus version.

Fast and frantic, the song can be coined as “very anime”, clearly inspired by Japanese Power Metal and following the Eastern Hirajoshi scale. Lyrically, the song is about a murderous figure that kills his master in pursuit of ultimate power. His only goal is to finally find a foe worthy of his full strength, and his hubris will kill all in his path in that pursuit.

“Die 1000 Deaths” is best served with a sake bomb along with a spicy bowl of ramen and will be enjoyed by fans of Dragonforce, Galneryus, and Orden Ogan.

“Hubris” will be released on October 22, 2021 via Feast Beast Records for North America plus Europe and for Asia via Spiritual Beast with exclusive bonus tracks.

The album was produced by Ravenous with mixing and mastering done by Fredrik Nordström (In Flames, Opeth, Firewind) along with album guests Vincent ‘Jake’ Jones of Aether Realm, Heinrich Yoshio of Aether Realm, Mathias Blad of Falconer, Nina Osegueda of A Sound of Thunder, The Dread Crew of Oddwood (Full Band).

Knoxville’s Summoner’s Circle are purveyors of doom, horror and epicness channeled through a spectacular theatrical performance that has been playing across the nation since 2015. The latest from the band is a Lovecraftian adjacent cosmic horror concept album “Chaos Vector”. It is their third full-length album following 2019’s “Become None” and 2018’s “Tome”; they now have a second single from this album, entitled “Of Black Horizons”.

The single is the first full song on the album. It opens with a fast and aggressive kick in the jaw and maintains that energy throughout. Lyrically, this song is a warning of impending doom. The band explains further:

“We wanted the album to start with an up-tempo heavy hitter. We wrote this as a future set opener to get the crowd going right from the start. The song is about a cosmic horror vastly older than the very universe and how nothing can stop its insatiable hunger now that it has its many eyes set on our world. No religion, be it perceived as good or evil, can stand up to the very real might of an all-powerful and all cruel elder god.”

Acknowledging that this past year has been difficult for everyone, the band explains the delay in releasing this album:

“We figured early in 2020, before the pandemic hit, that we would finish the album, get it released and immediately get back to touring. That didn’t happen. Now there is hope for the future, and this amazing album we sat on for over a year is finally being released. We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out – a concept album that was first conceived over two years ago is now here.”

“Chaos Vector” was written to tell a story, each song is a chapter in this tale and this album is but a single volume in a larger epic which Summoner’s Circle is continually writing.

Horrific but with a dark and beautiful twist, “Chaos Vector” is not for the faint of heart, but for those who are willing to go on an epic, progressive journey through madness. It is recommended for fans of Behemoth, Immortal and Opeth.

About:
“Let the Summoning Begin…”
Summoner’s Circle is a six-piece theatrical metal band that blends elements of doom, death, black and progressive metal into what they refer to as simply Epic Metal.

For the band, every song in an incantation, every live performance is a Summoning, and everything they do is tied intrinsically to the mythology, or lore, they have created. The lore tells the story of the band’s origins, battles of divine conquest and showcases their creativity and vision, which sets the stage for a very entertaining live performance where bigger is better, and Epic is always the standard.

The Summoners released their first EP, entitled First Summoning, in late 2015. This was followed in 2016 by the single, Become None, and its B-side, Minotaur, both of which are included on their debut full-length release entitled Tome, which was released in June of 2018.

In May of 2019, Tome was repackaged and released as Become None via the Pavement Entertainment label.

In the spring of 2019, Summoner’s Circle joined Children of Bodom, Swallow the Sun and Wolfheart as part of Bodom’s Hexed North American Tour, gaining many new fans and excellent reviews.

In June of 2019, the Six signed a worldwide management deal with Extreme Management Group, Inc. who also manages Suffocation, Cattle Decapitation, Misery Index and many others.

Summoner’s Circle’s second full-length album Chaos Vector is scheduled to be released in 2021 and will be accompanied by a Lovecraft-style cosmic horror short story written by the band. Each song is a chapter in the story.

“Summoners’ Circle have the whole package. Their songs are original and memorable, beautifully written, and hook the listener after the first listening. They have a great stage presence, and the theatricality and imagery of their live performances keep the fans talking about their experience way beyond the day of the show. I am honored to work on the production of their upcoming album.” – Yanic Bercier, Ph.D | Endorser of Yamaha Drums, Sabian, Vic Firth, Evans, AKG, RME, True-Systems, Engl, Ddrum

“Hooked the first time I saw this band play! No two shows are the same and I’m always left wanting more.  It’s what music and show should be!” – Lee Abney | Pentagram/Place of Skulls

“These guys are serious about what they do and the costumes and imagery match the grandiose sound they produce.” No Clean Singing

“SUMMONER’S CIRCLE’s full-length debut gets near the 75-minute mark, and yet it succeeds in balancing complexity, heaviness, catchiness, mystery and melodrama to make sure its duration does not become overwhelming. an almost perfect record …especially its flawless production and its tight, inventive songwriting.” – Metal Temple

“Summoner’s Circle is the kind of band you go your whole life hoping to hear and when you finally do it’s even better than you expected. They are the culmination of a lifetime spent listening to music and finally finding something that fits where nothing else has. Plus, brutality aside, they’re just a fantastic group of otherworldly beings.” – Josh Martin 94.3 WNFZ
