Ottawa, Canada’s Sinful Ways return in 2021 to unleash their sophomore EP “Darkest Days” on Friday, December 10th, and before it officially drops, the band has teamed up with NewFuryMedia for its full stream premiere HERE.
“Darkest Days” is a solid EP that blends melodic and thrashy elements along with three members sharing vocal duties, bassist Brad Lake doing cleans, drummer Dave Matlak doing main screams, and guitarist Frank Lahache on backing screams. The recording is an eighteen-minute exploration of war, anarchy, third world struggles, and mental health. Engaging fans with a mood-setting intro of crows, bells, and the wind, Sinful Ways lay a path into the opening track ‘Vow of the Devil’, a riffy, thrashy melodic vs. harsh experience. From there that band gets your fist-pumping with the anthemic ‘Bury The Hatchet’, which only gets you prepared for the perfectly titled ‘Manhattan’, an atomic bomb song solely written with a mosh pit in mind. To close out the EP, fans will experience ‘Pursuit’, the band’s most adventurous song that features an orchestral arrangement at the start before slamming into harmonized, sweep picking guitars.

“Everyone struggles from time to time; we even recorded this EP remotely during these Covid times. We believe we finally found a way to blend our various styles and elements to create some mosh pit favourites! We want people to remember why they got into metal, the energy, the fun, and the guitars. We want them to relive the days they discover good music! Edmonton, Canada’s thrash metal maniacs Tymo have a new album “The Art Of A Maniac” slated for release early next year. They have already released the first single off this record, the angry, fast punch-in-the-face “Sanity Clause”, which was the introduction to a release that is considerably more thrash-oriented than the previous “Purge & Reset” that came out in 2017.
Following up the initial single comes “Mars Attacks”, which according to the band is possibly their new anthem. It is about the film and comics of the same name; Martians annihilating the human race and taking over the Earth. Tymo explains further:
“It was the song that really got the album going! We had already written “Sanity Clause” and “The Roy Parson Project”, but they weren’t finished in time for the release of our previous album “Purge & Reset”. It is our current favorite and it’s already becoming a fan favorite live! We have always been a big fan of the films and comics, it was more than appropriate to write a song about the Martians slaughtering all of the humans! If you love old-school Exodus, you will love Mars Attacks!”

This new incarnation of Tymo boasts more technicality, faster songs, and heavier riffs, catapulting them into the forefront of the Canadian underground thrash metal scene. The 32 minute album was a group effort over the past year, where nine songs rose above the rest. Tymo is very excited to be sharing this polished result with metalheads around the world.
“The Art Of A Maniac” is due out on February 5, 2022 and is recommended for fans of Megadeth, Slayer, Lich King, Municipal Waste, and Exodus.

“A golden shower of thrash metal!” Six words to sum up Tymo! A band whose attitude lives up to the title of their debut album “Purge & Reset”. Lead guitarist and vocalist Tim Tymo explains that the origin of the title is more than words; it is a statement of lost faith in humanity. “Let’s just say we have a creator or superior being. If this god gave up everything we needed to flourish and returned to see all the wars and corruption, it would want to wipe the slate clean and start over. Hence…PURGE AND RESET!
Formed in Edmonton in 2015, Tymo is comprised of Tim Tymo as the lead guitarist and vocalist, Nick Schwartz on rhythm guitar, Harlen Jacobs on bass, and Marc Durie on drums.
Tim Tymo describes the band’s sounds as “loud, angry, and explosive thrash”. Tymo has a serious mission to entertain their fans. “We love writing and performing, and we all share a common passion for thrash metal. We wanted to reference our heroes and mix up that inspiration with our own brew and see what we came up with, and here we are. We want to give people a source of inspiration and excitement!
Tymo’s debut album “Purge & Reset” was released in August of 2017 and Tymo performed shows in support of the album throughout 2018. The band returned to the studio in early 2019 to record a single entitled “Sanity Clause.” It was released in late 2019 with very positive reviews and sold-out shows! Due to Covid 19, the band spent much of 2020 in the studio recording their follow-up album to Purge & Reset!
As of 2021, Tymo performed at the Loud As Hell Festival 2021 and has finished recording their next full-on thrash album! Much faster and more aggressive than Purge & Reset. The album entitled “The Art of A Maniac” is planned to be released in 2022 and Tymo has a mission to expand its audience and dominate the world! Planning to tour Europe and many other countries.

Calgary’s Hammerdrone Is Now Streaming Their Most Ambitious Recording Yet: “A Trinity of Rage”

Calgary, Canada’s death metal juggernaut, Hammerdrone, returns with their most ambitious recording yet: “A Trinity of Rage”. Deliberately written as a concept release and painstakingly crafted over the course of four years, the EP is accompanied by an original short story, “Eversor” (available as a bonus download via Bandcamp ). The story revolves around the fictional second book of Revelation, in which is foretold the threat of Heaven’s destruction at the hands of Eversor, The Destroyer. As the written story of “Eversor” ends, the EP begins, with both the music and lyrics of the three songs completing the narrative arc that the story introduces.
Flowing through three parts, “Part I – Rage, Corporeal”, “Part II – Rage, Besieged” and “Part III – Rage, Consummated” it is aggressively heavy and hauntingly melodic; the band incorporates a variety of black and progressive metal influences to present an EP that both pushes the boundaries and embraces the roots of their old-school, melodic death metal origins. Vocalist Graham states:
“This EP is our finest work to date. We worked longer and harder on every single aspect of it; from the song-writing to the recording, to the artwork, lyrics and the story. It took us a full 4 years to pull together and when we finally started recording, enter the COVID dragon to screw up our timing some more! We recorded and mixed most of the EP ourselves, as we did with our last album, but this time we tracked the drums in an outside studio (the Sound Priory in Calgary, AB) and got richer, deeper and more natural drum sounds than we’ve ever captured before. To cap it all off, we engaged the infamous Jens Bogren to master the final mixes – we are big fans of his work with Amon Amarth! It’s the first time we’ve had a real professional involved in the mastering and the experience was awesome – the final master is clean and loud, but keeps the raw nature of the mix.”
Mixed by the band and then burnished to shine by the professional mastering skills of the legendary Jens Bogren (Amon Amarth, Be’lakor, Rotting Christ, etc) at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden, the result is an epic and forceful musical expression of betrayal, broken faith and vengeance.
Melodic, intense, and emotive, Hammerdrone is recommended for fans of Amon Amarth, Rotting Christ and Kataklysm.

Originally hailing from Korriban, but now stranded in Atlanta, Georgia, Ecryptus plays Star Wars themed death metal and they have a new EP ready for metalheads across the galaxy. The release of “Kyr’am Beskar” (Mandalorian for “Death Metal”) follows two demos (2002/2004); The Continuum LP (2005); Astral Crusades EP (2008) and a 7-inch single Rancorous (2018/2020). Each of these tells tales of the Dark side and its crusade against the tyranny of the rebel forces.
The single “Cauterized Saber Wound Massacre” is the first look at this EP complete with a lyric video.

Wacken Metal Battle USA is returning in 2022 after two years of missed battles across America due to the Covid pandemic. For its last three years (2017-2019), Wacken Metal Battle USA has hosted battles across the country to send one independent metal band to perform at the world’s largest metal festival Wacken Open Air in Wacken, Germany. 2019 saw the festival celebrate its 30th anniversary, but due to Covid, the 2020 and 2021 editions were both canceled. As the metal community regains its strength, Wacken Open Air 2022 will be the 31st edition of the festival and will be held from August 4th to 6th. The 2022 event is already sold out with a line-up that includes Slipknot, Till Lindemann (Rammstein), Judas Priest, Limp Bizkit, As I Lay Dying, Lacuna Coil, Danko Jones, Gwar, Death Angel, Tarja, and many more. For over a decade at Wacken Open Air, independent metal bands from around the globe have been performing in front of thousands and competing against one another for one to be crowned champion of the international battle at the festival along with winning multiple prizes. How it works:
Participating cities will host qualifying rounds plus a city final organized by a local city concert promoter where one band will move forward to the American national final (date and city to be determined). The winner of the national final will move on to perform at the Wacken Open Air 2022 and compete against the winners of 29 other countries in a final global battle. All bands will be judged during battle rounds by respected local music industry representatives.
