Hails to “The Alder Queen” as she takes her throne in the latest epic video from Canadian power metal warriors Ravenous. The track features guest vocals from Nina Osegueda of A Sound of Thunder and is off the band’s recently unleashed album “Hubris” (Feast Beast/ Spiritual Beast) that is being premiered today via Sonic Perspectives HERE.
The band explains the track:
“This song is an alternate take on Der Erlkonig – a poem written by Goethe and later adapted into Opera by Franz Schubert – in which a father rides to get his son medical attention, while the child cries out about supernatural forces trying to claim his life (Der Erklonig – loosely translated to the Elf King or The Alder King). The father continues to console the child, telling them it is simply the child’s imagination seeing these things, but as the child finally cries that he has been captured, the father looks down to find his son has died. The Ravenous rendition features Die Erlkonigin – the Elf/Alder Queen, played by Nina Osegueda of A Sound of Thunder – and follows the trajectory of the original tale with lyrics extracted directly from the original poem from 1782.”
Taking their performance, writing, and musicianship seriously, but allowing tongue-in-cheek humour and pop culture references to resonate through the songs, Ravenous is bringing fans anthemic tunes from a time when metal was hungry.
Their new studio album “Hubris”, released on October 22nd, was produced by the band with mixing and mastering done by Fredrik Nordström (In Flames, Opeth, Firewind). The full-length features guests Vincent ‘Jake’ Jones of Aether Realm, Heinrich Yoshio of Aether Realm, Mathias Blad of Falconer, Nina Osegueda of A Sound of Thunder and The Dread Crew of Oddwood (Full Band).
Bringing a full lineup of experienced musicians together, ones that have toured extensively and are fully dedicated to providing a high-energy, high-intensity live experience. Ravenous seek to inspire others to find that inner triumph and glory that drove them to form this project – whether that means starting their own band, or just finding the strength to make a change in their lives – they seek to empower their followers through every step of their journey.
Recommended for fans of Blind Guardian, Falconer, Sabaton and Unleash the Archers.

“Calgary’s Ravenous have fused their flamboyant cross-breeding of European power metal and early ‘80s US speed metal, using it like a sharp ’n’ shiny scythe to forge their way through the crowded underground. Past accomplishments have included tours and gigs with Delain, Alestorm, Hammerfall, Striker and Powerglove with festival appearances and headliners interspersed in between. Considering all of the above, it shouldn’t come as a surprise a large part of this quintet’s musical vocabulary involved loving it speedy, epic, melodically grandiose while having a sword waving good time in the process.” – Decibel Magazine
“Ravenous aren’t afraid to put it all out there; symphonic assaults blend with all-out thrash metal, underpinned by some of the most enthusiastic power metal of the year. From start to finish Hubris is chock full of anthemic and contagious fist-pumping, head-banging songs featuring dramatic vocals and shredding solos. Power metal fans rejoice: Hubris is a worthy addition to your collection.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

Over the last couple of months, Canada’s Ravenous have been whetting our appetites for their latest offering “Hubris”. Now the main course is ready to dive into. The album is currently streaming on Decibel Magazine and will officially release on October 22, 2021 via Feast Beast Records (NA/EU) / Spiritual Beast (Asia).
Listen to it in full at the following link – https://www.decibelmagazine.com/2021/10/21/full-album-stream-ravenous-put-their-power-metal-hubris-on-display/
The majority of the album was written in two weeks by vocalist R. A. Voltaire and guitarist Jake Wright who take an initial riff as the starting seed which is nurtured with chorus or pre and post-
Choruses laid upon with verses and bridges representing a slight departure in intensity or just “overall power-metalness”. That skeleton is then recorded in their home studio and distributed across all band members to implement changes – each member presents new or modified ideas pertaining to their instrument, and when the overall structure is confirmed, the lyrics are finally written. The band explains their method in their own words:
“The idea is not only to create a melody that resonates with listeners, and not only write inspiring, creative lyrics, but to also tie them together in a way that makes sense sonically and intuitively to the song (and of course, allows the singer to breathe at some point!) Each song on “Hubris” has been carefully penned as a cautionary tale reflecting the motif of arrogance and downfall. Those finalized demos become our listening material for months, as we carefully craft alternate versions and sections, even modified during the recording process.”
Ravenous takes performance, writing, and musicianship seriously, but allows tongue-in-cheek humour and pop culture references to resonate through the songs. From the symphonic Sabaton-esque “Carnage in Carthage” (best served with a shot of fireball and a meatball sub) to the straight rock n’ roll anthem “March of Hunger” (best served with a bong rip followed by taquitos and a slurpee) to the extra enjoyable, folk metal drinking song “Claw is the Law” featuring The Dread Crew of Oddwood’s accordions and mandolins, paired obvious, with White Claw.
Each of the ten tracks offers something different, so whatever your poison, whatever your midnight snack, Ravenous has the perfect musical accompaniment. They are recommended listening for fans of Sabaton, Unleash the Archers and Falconer.
“Hubris” was produced by Ravenous with mixing and mastering done by Fredrik Nordström (In Flames, Opeth, Firewind) along with album guests Vincent ‘Jake’ Jones of Aether Realm, Heinrich Yoshio of Aether Realm, Mathias Blad of Falconer, Nina Osegueda of A Sound of Thunder, The Dread Crew of Oddwood (Full Band).
“Hubris” releases on October 22, 2021 with a regular edition and a Japanese version with bonus tracks.

Canadian metallers Ravenous have partnered up with Calgary’s New Level Brewing for the release of a limited-edition beer, called ‘Speed Metal Blonde’. The beer is in celebration of “Hubris”, the upcoming second album by Ravenous, with the label designed by frontman R. A. Voltaire.
“We have had so many iconic bands and friends of ours release their own booze, it became a symbolic milestone for us! Luckily, with the support of New Level Brewing, we were able to make that milestone come to life – and it’s tasty!”
The beer is a smooth and crushable Blonde Ale for those in league with the craft beer devil, with a sophisticated and nuanced profile. Crisp, clean and refreshing, yet metal enough to be the crowd favorite at shows. Ingredients are water, yeast, barley, and hops, with oats added for a fuller body and additional sweetness.
‘Speed Metal Blonde’ is only available in Canadian markets and is limited to 1000 cans – available during all Ravenous show dates in Canada until they’re gone! The band’s next live performance will be in Calgary, AB on October 15th at Dicken for their “Hubris” album launch show. Canada’s Ravenous will be unleashing their new album “Hubris” on October 22nd via Feast Beast Records for North America plus Europe and for Asia via Spiritual Beast with exclusive bonus tracks “Cakaw Te Partiro” and “一瞬千撃” for the Japanese version.
Before the full-length officially drops, the band is hosting two CD release shows for Alberta fans in Edmonton and Calgary. The Edmonton event will be hosted on October 9th at The Starlite Room, which will include a live DVD recording in support of “Hubris” and for their hometown crowd in Calgary, they will be performing on October 15th at Dickens.
The band hints at what attendees can expect from their live show:
“First-time fans can expect our performance and costumes to be akin to going to a Queen show in their early pub days, but with fast-riffs, blast beats, and more crowd-singing than you can shake a claw at! Our fans have a tendency to make people feel welcome, like joining a giant IRL Discord server, so the fans all become friends over time and that community not only strengthens us as a band, but also boosts the rest of the industry, so first-timers will find they left the show with more friends than they came in with!”
Details for the CD release shows can be found on Ravenous‘ Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/RavenousE.H/events
