“good time high energy rock that demands a beer in hand, sweat running down the back and smiles all around…. A combination of AC/DC, Guns n Roses and Motley Crüe would be how I’d describe them, with added Motörhead to bring more flame to the fire on occasion.” – The Razor’s Edge

“Pay attention for REBEL PRIEST’s Rock ‘n’ Roll homily, because as they preach Rock ‘n’ Roll with “Lost in Tokyo”, you’ll be converted to their hard Rock cult. 9/10” – Metal-Temple

“It’s such a blast of high-powered hard rocking energy, this a fun track (Lost In Tokyo) that will make you want to visit the city and get lost.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“For fans of bands like Mötley Crüe and the like, Rebel Priest may be the right thing and if you are looking for dirty rock with beer-loving lyrics for a night of drinking, you will find it at Rebel Priest.” – Hellfire Magazin

“Rebel Priest stand for fast and hard rock ‘n’ roll. Three of the four songs are absolute party grenades and exude unbridled joy in playing. The EP Lost in Tokyo whets the appetite for more and then screams out live from the stage.” – Soundmagnet

“Lost In Tokyo (single) –  A crunching power packed snare drum punch comes crashing through as this shredding beast comes at us full on. Shredding guitar riffs are strewn all over this cranking monster as it ramps up the energy as this fantastic track gathers momentum and brings cool bass chords that deliver a plundering beat that combines well with this fantastic killer track.” – Jace Media

“This record is full of gritty, down ‘n’ dirty fun with a spiked metal grip” – Bravewords (R’LYEH HEAVY – 2019)

“A good Rotzrock Rundling let loose the REBEL PRIEST on the listener!” – My Revelations

“Reminded me of the early Iron Maiden Days” – Metal-Temple (R’LYEH HEAVY – 2019)

“This record is full of gritty, down ‘n’ dirty fun with a spiked metal grip” – Bravewords (R’LYEH HEAVY – 2019)

“Great stuff for cracking open a cold one and blasting down the highway at an illegal rate of speed” – Rebelx

======================================

The EP as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

On this EP we really tried to lighten it up and go back to the energy and feel that got us playing in the first place, music for adventure or memory-making music! The soundtrack for that summer you’ll never forget or that time you did that thing and you’ll always think of it when you hear this song. It’s a feel-good and takes no prisoners combo at the same time!

Track by track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

1. Lesson In Love is a non-traditional ballad like a love song sung by a Tommy gun hahaha! It’s about the trials and tribulations of loving something and just going thru it, the ups and downs and spirals but without the direct subject being a person. It’s open-ended in that it is what you love or love doing and how it’s a journey that can always find a way home.

2. Dïvebomber is a speed rock song that came together as we were chatting about WW2 dogfights and how crazy it must have been, then we thought that nothing could be crazier than a dïvebomber so we picked up our instruments and it just bled out!

3. Coatcheck Girl is a song Nate wrote a while ago about working at nightclubs and how (most often) the woman working the door was the best looking lady in the place! It’s been in our set for a while now and is a staple for our live shows, I mean who isn’t ready to party when a song starts out with LET’S GO GET SOME BEER!

4. Bonfire is a song about the great Bon Scott and nods to his wicked wordplay and snarky attitude. He was a true original and nobody came close! With thundering drums and lightning strike guitars, this song is a punch to the gut just like how he lived his life!

======================================

STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS ABOUT THE BAND:

1. Nate is an avid RC car enthusiast and has been working on cars his whole life. Benny has been practicing Muay Thai since the pandemic.

2. On a few different tours, I rolled under a moving semi-truck, Benny free galled out of a 40 ft tree hitting every branch on the way down, Nate broke his sticks and almost took out someone at front stage, Benny broke each of his knees on stage and finished the show. Once when we were on our way to play a show in Calgary, we got pulled over and when we got out, a bunch of whiskey bottles fell out and we convinced him that they were for candle holders.

Another time we were driving thru the Rockies and we got caught in a forest fire, landslide, tropical storm (with cars and trees getting blown over) and finally almost totaled by a moose, all on the way home.

3. The band name came from a Tombstone of a Canadian Shaman, it’s said “*redacted* he was a Rebel, he was a priest, he was the storm, this will not stop him”

4. The band started out with stage attire that was Manowar meets Iron Fist era Motörhead, which we dropped early on because only one person a show would remember the outfit making it look like we were taking turns dressing up like a caveman.

Get Educated With REBEL PRIEST’s Rock N’ Roll Music Video “Lesson In Love”

New EP “Lesson In Love” Out June 24th

West Coast Canadian Tour Dates w/ Deadwolff

L-R – Jayme Black – Vocals/Bass, Nate Pole – Drums/Vocals, Benny Kemp – Guitars/Vocals

Vancouver’s Rebel Priest has been bringing its eclectic brand of rock n’ roll to fans for years in a true unadulterated, unapologetic fashion. A little bit greasy, a little bit sassy, but 100% committed, they have released four records, with a fifth on its way this year. “Lesson In Love” is the name of the upcoming EP as well as the first single, an untraditional ballad, like a love song sung by a Tommy gun. According to the band, it’s about going through the trials and tribulations of loving something – the ups, the downs, the spirals, but without the direct subject being a person. The band explains further:

“It’s open-ended in that it is what you love or love doing and how it’s a journey that can always find a way home. There’s always that one thing in your life that keeps you going, a person, a hobby, a theology. No matter what your vice is, it always comes at a price. You have to go through the blood, sweat, and tears to get what you need outta it and it doesn’t always come easy. This is your education, your lesson in love.”

When people put on the new record, Rebel Priest intends for them to forget about everything else, take a break from the grind, and get pumped! Whether you’re working out, going out, or down and out, put it on and play it loud! Get into it and go wild! Their music is fluid, they find a riff and then follow it where it wants to go. They say it’s just about finding the groove and cruising the wave.

Rebel Priest is headed out on tour with Toronto’s Deadwolff this summer, and spectators are in for a rock n roll treat – guitarist/vocalist Benny Kemp is the embodiment of a denim tornado; that guy will (and has) break his legs to party on stage! Drummer/vocalist Nate Pole is a groovin’ attitudn’ mean machine behind the drums that will sometimes make a wood chipper look like a pencil sharpener on those skins. As for vocalist/bassist Jayme Black, he’s a bit of a mouthpiece and likes his bass real gritty.

The trio just wants to bring rock n roll back to street level, when it was outlaw music for the underdog, so expect a greasy, sweaty, down and dirty rock show. They are recommended for fans of Motörhead, ZZ Top, and Rose Tattoo.

The music video “Lesson In Love” can be seen and heard via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

The EP comes out on June 24, 2022 via Batcave Records.

Vancouver’s Rebel Priest Encourages Dark Obsessions With “Vulgar Romance” Off “Lost In Tokyo”

New EP “Lost In Tokyo” Out August 13th via Batcave Records

L-R – Jayme Black – Vocals/Bass, Nate Pole – Drums/Vocals, Benny Kemp – Guitars/Vocals

Hailing from Vancouver, Canada, Rebel Priest is the denim and leather-clad trio that has been whipping across stages and pushing out bangin’ albums since 2014. This year they are putting out a new EP called “Lost In Tokyo”, which will be available on August 13th via Batcave Records.

As the name of the EP hints, most of these tracks were written in Japan in 2019 before the closure, the band has been sitting on them for a year, and the time is finally right for them to come out. The third single off this record is “Vulgar Romance”, a dark groover about people’s interests in serial killers and trying to see behind the mind of the hunter. The band explains the track in more depth:

“This song came across with our interest in other people’s interest in serial killers and what would happen if someone took fandom too far or they actually got to see in the eyes behind the mind. It’s a commentary on what people’s hungers are and the deprivation that one can get if they take their interest to the next level. It’s a bittersweet take on a dark topic, we tried to capture the atmosphere with more of a swing to the song as if you were stalking down the street.”

“Vulgar Romance” can be heard at https://youtu.be/FMgntTZPH7M

In their infancy Rebel Priest started out making a lot of different genres, seeing what they liked, what would mesh, and testing all the styles they liked to see what they could pull off. As of now, the experimentation phase is over, they have focused on rock n’ roll because it’s the most natural thing for them, it comes out easily and they don’t have to think about it, however, this could evolve in the future.

If this four-track EP isn’t enough for the fans out there, don’t fret, Rebel Priest ensures that they aren’t slowing down and they will have more coming out throughout the rest of the year, LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN!

Rebel Priest is bringing the rock and recommended for fans of Rose Tattoo, Deep Purple, and LA Guns.

The EP releases on August 13, 2021 via Batcave Records on the following platforms:

“We had a batch of headbangers and a few didn’t make it, but sometimes songs just need other means to come out. We wanted to set the tone for each one on this EP as opposed to a full-length concept album. Each one is a juggernaut on their own and will stand strong without having to be bound to the others… and as for more music … oh Lemmy tell ya! Montreal, QC – July 14, 2021

Vancouver’s REBEL PRIEST Bring The Mean Streets To Your Ears With “Back Alley Blues”

New EP “Lost In Tokyo” Out August 13th via Batcave Records

L-R – Jayme Black – Vocals/Bass, Nate Pole – Drums/Vocals, Benny Kemp – Guitars/Vocals

Vancouver’s Rebel Priest took a trip to Japan in 2019 and from the drunken debauchery they wrote a few songs, now being released as a four-track EP, the aptly named “Lost In Tokyo”. The second single off the EP is the second track “Back Alley Blues”.

Instead of a full-length concept album, Rebel Priest decided to make a punchy, succinct EP. They set the tone on each single by adding a few similar elements which bind them together on the album as a whole but each track is a juggernaut on its own and will stand strong independently. “Back Alley Blues” is a slinking little ditty about an imaginary place that is half sunset strip, half Detroit rock city, and about hanging with your crew. The band explains further:

“Imagine if you will, you’re a stray cat, walking down the street. You come across a mean old junkyard dog, you’re not afraid ‘cause you’re a tough-as-nails, street thug. The dog starts barking, you keep walking, and the smell of a kitty of the other persuasion is in the air. You’re now hotter than on a summer day, you see an alley with an intoxicating scent. As you walk down the place you feel most at home, your nostrils spike because there is something else in the air. As you get to the end of the alley you see the kitty you have been looking for and they have a bag of catnip. That’s just the beginning of your night.”

Lived experiences, vivid imagery, and wild rock n roll is the name of the game for Rebel Priest. The writing process for the band is simple and organic, the result of them working together previously and being no strangers to their craft. They will write a riff, work on it together, and then if it has wings, they let it fly. There is no microscope to put tracks under and obsess over, in this world of autotune and time-shifting, it’s all about trying to find the ghost in the machine, and Rebel Priest is bringing the Ouiji board!

Greasy, smooth, and catchy, “Back Alley Blues” is recommended for fans of ZZ Top, Rose Tattoo, and Deep Purple.

The band has had the pleasure of touring Japan, and performing alongside bands such as Udo (Accept), Lordi, Diamond Head, Crystal Pistol, Flotsam, and Jetsam along with playing many headlining gigs with the energy of Motorhead meets Motley Crue.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – June 23, 2021

For fans of Motörhead, ZZ Top, Rose Tattoo, Deep Purple, LA Guns

Take A Rock N Roll Walk Through Japan With The Title Track From Rebel Priest’s “Lost In Tokyo”

New EP “Lost In Tokyo” Out August 13th via Batcave Records

L-R – Jayme Black – Vocals/Bass, Nate Pole – Drums/Vocals, Benny Kemp – Guitars/Vocals

Vancouver’s Rebel Priest is well known in Western Canada for pumping out solid rock n roll tracks and putting on a deadly, old-school stage show. They have three full-length albums to date and to make sure people haven’t forgotten about them, have a four-track EP coming out this summer, “Lost In Tokyo”.

The first single off the EP is the title track; it’s a story about their first couple of nights in the Shinjuku district of Tokyo, Japan, which is famed for its entertainment including buzzing clubs and neon-lit karaoke bars. Consider this song your drunken guide to bars and places that the band has fond memories of. They explain further:

“This is your own personal guide to downtown Tokyo. This song will take you on a ride through Shinjuku on your way to Golden Gai, waking up in Shimokitazawa then taking the train to Shibuya and hanging with the strangers in Harajuku. This is based on a true story, though piecing the story together is a bit sloppy because it was over a few days. This is our love song to our favourite city in the world.”

Not only did Japan leave its mark on the band, but the boys left theirs as well. Every place mentioned in ”Lost In Tokyo” is an actual place that has Rebel Priest stuff on the walls, this was due to drummer Nate Pole and roadie Jerry “Pred S. Thompson” leaving the hotel the first night without any translator or ideas where they were going. To this day they don’t know how they got back or how people knew them in bars they had never been to.

The grease-infused Trash N’ Roll signature sound is recommended for fans of Motörhead, ZZ Top, and Rose Tattoo.

Montreal, QC – May 12, 2020

For fans of AC/DC, Airbourne, Motorhead, ZZ Top, Guns n Roses, Motley Crue

Vancouver Rock n’ Roll REBEL PRIEST New Music Video ‘Sleeping Like A Hangman’

New Album “R’lyeh Heavy” Out Now via Scrape Records

L-R – Nate Pole – Drums – Vocals,  Jayme Black – Bass – Vocals,  Benny Kemp – Guitar – Vocals

Vancouver rock n’ roll tribe Rebel Priest has a new music video out for their hit “Sleeping Like A Hangman”.

According to the band, the song is about “addiction to the thing that can’t be controlled, relinquishing that control and understanding that we are in the noose” set with powerful guitar riffs and smooth bass lines making a heavy and raw tune that will get fists raised in the air.

“Sleeping Like A Hangman” comes from the November 2019 album “R’lyeh Heavy” released on Scrape Records that can best be described as “a visceral vision of a call to a past secular-religious god with many different facets of an ancient pantheon”. With utmost confidence, Rebel Priest quotes about the album:

“We’re excited about this one; it’s a culmination of what we’ve been doing since the beginning. Doing our sound, our way; it was quite an in-depth recording process for us this time ‘round and we think the fans will take notice! This is a step above the rest!!”

All killer and no filler is the name of the game for the trio, each song on the album was worked on intensely and blends elements of everything in the rock realm into a concise, banging package.

Rebel Priest is a no-nonsense, real-deal rock n’ roll band composed of three seasoned musicians who have been making their way through the Western Canadian rock n roll scene for years. Vocalist/bassist Jayme Black (Lust Boys, The Toxiks); guitarist/vocalist Benny Kemp (Lust Boys, Road Rash); and drummer/vocalist Nate Pole (Kill Matilda, The Toxiks) bring nothing but unadulterated, high energy rock n’ roll.

Recommended for fans of Guns n’ Roses, AC/DC and Motley Crue, “Sleeping Like A Hangman” is available on YouTube HERE.

The band’s album “R’lyeh Heavy” and previous releases are available on Bandcamp, Spotify, iTunes, and Scraperecords.com.

About:

REBEL PRIEST has been a driving force on Canada’s West Coast rock/metal scene since forming in 2015, winning BEST ROCK BAND in 2017 and 2018 at The Whammys – an independent awards ceremony held in Vancouver, BC.

REBEL PRIEST has stormed the coastal concert stages, headlining their own shows and supporting international acts Udo Dirkschneider (ACCEPT), LORDI, DIAMOND HEAD, Hank Von Hell, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM and THE LAZYS. They have become a regular fixture at Vancouver’s annual Bowie Ball, performing David Bowie covers for the benefit of The Canadian Cancer Society.

Combining NWOBHM with elements of Sleaze and Thrash, the REBEL PRIEST sound has been often described as Thrash n’ Roll. Frontman Jayme Black comments: “We’ve been called Trash n Roll, or Thrash Rock, but we just call ourselves Rock n Roll. A hideously deformed creature of superhuman Rock n Roll.”
