New EP “Lockdown In Steeltown” Out Now!

Sons of Butcher, Canada’s most formidable “mock rock” band has a new collection of music out, aptly named “Lockdown In Steeltown”, themed around the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is the first release from the band in four years, and it comes right after the announcement that Sons of Butcher will be creating a third season of their show themselves with the entire original team.

Sons of Butcher wrote the EP in the spring right when quarantine measures were enforced around the world and it goes through some of the experiences that SOB would likely be facing during that time. Initially, the track “Quaranteen” was meant to be a one-off, but more lockdown themed lyrics kept coming and an entire EP was forged. Meant to be a distraction from all the craziness, Sons of Butcher explains the EP:

“This EP is a look into the lives of these cartoon rockers as they’re forced to lockdown in place in their hometown of Steeltown. Each character is coping in their own way and has their own song to express it.”

Today, the band shares their new music video “Lockdown Phase One” filmed collectively with fans in their own personal lockdowns.

Singing about meat, sex, and everything in between, they are a mixed bag of rude unapologetic party rock from the bowels of Steeltown. Fans can expect much more from Sons of Butcher as they are just ramping up and will be starting the new season of the show as soon as they complete the pilot.

BIO:

Sons of Butcher is a Canadian rock band consisting of four members, Ricky Butcher (vocals/guitar), Doug Borski (vocals, bass), Sol Butcher (vocals), Colin Van Ham Steak (lead guitar), and Sausage Ralph (drums).

Their music fuses vulgar absurdist comedy with rock music in a style that is described as “mock rock”.

Their band alter-egos are the focus of an animated television series developed by S&S Productions and aired on Canadian animation network Teletoon which follows the lives of two brothers who run a butcher shop. Butchers by day, rockers by night, the name ‘Sons of Butcher’ can also be taken literally as Ricky and Sol’s father was a butcher.

Admiring the comedy and rock fusion of bands like Tenacious D and Spinal Tap, the brothers came up with this idea in college around the year 2000. Passing a script off to one of the producers of the classic Canadian sitcom Red Green led to the show becoming a reality. After the first season aired, it became clear the fictitious band needed to come to life. Soon they were playing live shows and releasing albums.

Sons of Butcher has released 5 full lengths, Self-Titled (2005), Meatlantis (2007), Rise of the Steaks (2010), Fall of the Steaks (2010), and C Sections (2016).

Clad in spandex outfit, straight from the cartoon series, Sons of Butcher compliments their raunchy lyrics with onstage antics and sketchy and of course, their ferociously heavy tunes. There are even pepperette throwing and the signature meat tray that is paraded around the room for all to sample.

The comedic rock party has no plans of slowing down, in 2020 they will release an aptly timed EP “Lockdown In Steeltown” on June 19th via Infamous Butcher Records.

Champions in blending classic heavy metal, hard rock, and 80’s hair metal, Canadian shredders STRIKER‘s sixth studio album “Play To Win”, released via their independent label Record Breaking Records, has won the 2020 JUNO AWARD for Metal / Hard Music Album of The Year. As the most prestigious music award an artist can be given in the country, the 49th JUNO Awards were originally scheduled to be held at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on March 15th, 2020, but due to the COVID pandemic was forced to reschedule as a live stream on June 29th.

This was Striker‘s second JUNO Award nomination and first win.“We are very grateful for the Juno win this year, especially as an independent band. The Juno is the culmination of all the support from the Canadian music industry we’ve had, from FACTOR, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Canada Council for the Arts, and many others, and helps us feel validated as artists. Featuring 10 fist-pounding shredtacular anthems, Striker‘s “Play To Win” was produced by the band plus mixed and mastered by Hendrik Udd (Firewind, Powerwolf, Hammerfall, Delain). The band supported the release last year with tours across North America with DEATH ANGEL, ANVIL, STEEL PANTHER, HOLY GRAIL, and BEWITCHER along with performing on 70,000 Tons of Metal. “Play To Win” followed their 2017 self-titled full length that the band supported with tours across Europe and North America with Sonata Arctica, Dark Tranquility, and Warbringer along with festival appearances at Bang Your Head Festival (Germany) and more to add to their almost 1000 shows performed in their decade-plus career.

“Ascend To The Throne” is a 7 track ripping and cohesive album and the second in the Saints of Death repertoire following the 2015 self-titled EP. With a different lineup than the debut effort, Saints of Death now boasts a more robust group that is tighter, more aggressive, and more melodic than ever before along with still featuring their signature sound of having two bassists. Originally starting out as a Motorhead tribute band, Vancouver, BC’s SAINTS of DEATH is a four-piece that has taken the reins to write original material with a double bassist attack and set themselves apart from the pack with their uniquely heavy sound of thrash, doom and hardcore metal.

Inspired by the Mexican folklore of Santa Muerte (Spanish for Holy Death), SAINTS of DEATH is fronted by vocalist and eight-string bassist Twan Holliday, a giant standing nearly 7’ foot tall who can also be recognized for his acting credits in some well-known Hollywood movies and pro wrestling (credits below). Holliday is joined by four string bassist Juan Helluva, guitarist Ashley Blue and Christopher James on drums to complete this ferocious line-up.

Taking their experiences from past bands (Snaggletooth, Strapping Young Lad, Farewell to Freeway, Tides of Honor & more), these veterans of the Vancouver debuted their self-titled EP in 2015 and hit the road on a series of follow up tours! Getting great reviews with both online sources as well as physical press, the band quickly climbed to the top of the Western Canadian metal scene.

Soon after making a name for themselves in their home country, SAINTS of DEATH embarked on its first international tour of Mexico during November 2018 and has since returned two more times to play multiple festivals with acts such as Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), ELO, Dave Evans (Ex – ACDC), Neil Turbin (Ex – Anthrax) and many more successful acts.

After a short hiatus and a replenished new line up, SAINTS of DEATH recorded their first full-length album (2nd release) entitled “Ascend To The Throne” set for release on July 10th, 2020 via HeadRattle Productions.

The band adds:

“This album has been a long time coming, and we cannot wait to get it into the ears of our fans. After dealing with line up issues for a few years solid, we finally have a solid line up and are back to kicking ass. The current line up has been together since 2018 and we have really gelled as friends and as band members. Naturally, with this kind of chemistry going on, it was finally time to record a new album.

Like the first EP, there is diversity between each song, allowing each of them to stand out as hard-hitting singles. There is also the consistency that allows the songs to come together as a great album. We talk about important topics such as the trials of society, corruption and corporate greed, mental health as well as a few other topics on this album. We put a lot of hard work and passion crafting this album and making it what it is and we cannot wait to show the world!”

As soon as the COVID pandemic resolves and concert life can return to normal, expect SAINTS of DEATH to set the bar high with a live behemoth of ampage, theatrics backed by a custom light show, and pushing forward to take on the biggest stages and crowds to win over fans who enjoy headbanging to such bands as Motorhead, Lamb of God, Pantera, DevilDriver.

Fun Fact: Besides being a musician vocalist/bassist Twan Holliday has acting credits for movies American Mary (2012), The Devils Ground (2009) w/ Darryl Hanna, Stan Helsing (2009) (Leslie Neielson’s last movie), Catwoman (2004) w/ Halle Barry, Psych (TV Show) plus has done stunts on Super Natural (TV Show) and Pathfinder (2007). Twan was also a pro-hard-core wrestler of 10 years and was on TV every Saturday at 1 pm on KVOS TV12 (Bellingham, WA) plus was asked to train for WWE.

BIO:

From The Depth was formed officially at the end of 2008. In 2010, with their first solid line-up, they released the demo “The Will To Be The Flame”, which quickly sold out.

In 2011 the band signed with Rising Records for the release of their first studio album “Back To Life”, published and released worldwide in November of the same year. Meanwhile, they attended many European festivals playing alongside bands such as Megadeth, Sonata Arctica, Overkill, King Diamond, Iced Earth, Moonspell, Lordi, Sabaton, Rhapsody Of Fire, Dragonforce and more.

Between 2013 and 2015 the band went through some line-up changes, but slowly, during live shows, they started the writing process for the “Back To Life” successor. By the end of 2016, a new limited edition EP was published with the name of “Perseverance”.

From 2018 the actual stable line-up is in place and after some live gigs the band focused on studio material to finalize “Moments”. The album was mixed and mastered by Simone Mularoni at Domination Studio in January 2020 and features, among others, musicians like Roberto Tiranti and Giacomo Voli. While working on new material, the band leveraged new members’ ideas to write even more songs, and a new album is already written and in the early stage of production.

Lately, the band is also remixing and remastering “Back To Life” which is waiting for a new release, scheduled for the 10-year anniversary of the album in 2021.

“Back To Life” has everything and more when it comes to a solid power metal album. The songs flow together smoothly and are well balanced between reckless guitar solos and stunning piano work. Prior to unleashing their fourth studio album “The Last Extinction” this past May, Montreal melodic death metal quintet [EVERTRAPPED] shared the music video for the single “Sorrow (Nothing More In Between)”. Today, the band is showing fans the behind the scenes shooting of the video, which was filmed at the top of a high rise building in downtown Montreal during a very hot and humid day.

[Evertrapped]’s new album “The Last Extinction” is also being offered by the band for download on Bandcamp for only $1 HERE along with it available on Spotify and Apple Music.

Released on May 22, 2020, “The Last Extinction” is a mix of the band’s sound that was defined on “The Anomaly” (2012) and “Under The Deep” (2015). With influences ranging from death metal to melodic death primarily, along with some classic thrash and speed metal, which explains their technicality and diversity sonically, the album overall will give fans a very heavy post-apocalypse feel. It’s meant to mix the dark and light of the end of all things. Fans of Arch Enemy, Persefone, Whitechapel, Death, and Fleshgod Apocalypse will feel the whirlwind of aggression.

Vocalist James Brookes adds:

“The album overall has a very heavy post-apocalypse feel. It’s meant to mix the dark and light of the end of all things. For example, how the end would bring about great darkness so to speak in our minuscule occupied area of the universe, but at the same time it brings about this unexpected sense of bittersweet relief. Some songs are more down to earth in their subject matter but none the less written in an abstract way, whereas others take a more third-person look at this apocalyptic feel from a universal standpoint. I suppose the genre of the lyrics would be an equal mix of science fiction, fantasy, and dystopia.”

Since 2007, [Evertrapped] has brought together their collective experience from the Montreal metal scene to create their heavy brand of melodic death metal. The guitarists Frederick Dupuis (ex-Daggerfalls) and Vincent Benoit hammer out raw guitar while drummer Eric Lemire (ex-Apocalypsys, ex-Ice Castle) pummels the drums. Their versatile frontman James Brookes (ex-Ammonia, ex-One Final Moment, Continuum) easily alternates between strong clear vocals and low bellowing screams giving listeners the illusion of more than one vocalist. John Yates (ex-AraPacis) weaves together each song with his driving bass lines to keep the energy of the punishing track at an all-time high.

Their lyrics come from two places. One from the dark and exaggerated metaphors for things actually based on personal events. The other is lyrics that are only loosely based in reality and have an almost fantasy-like appeal. Sometimes the reality can be based on what could be the actual state of the world as it is or an image of a future where the world is on the brink of an apocalypse. The overall idea is that the lyrics are not meant to be understood at face value in any way. It’s an art form that’s open to interpretation by the listener.

Back in February, Canada’s Anvil released a new album “Legal At Last” celebrating the legalization of recreational cannabis use in the country. To support this album, the heavy metallers had a very thorough tour planned in the UK and Germany, with an assortment of other stops along the way. Unfortunately, like everyone else, COVID-19 stopped the tour in its tracks.

Still looking to bring their new album and to fans around the world they will be performing on the first Canadian heavy metal live stream put on by District 7 Production and L’Anti Bar & Spectacles on Saturday, July 4th, 2020. The event organizers see this as a win-win situation for everyone. They go into more detail:

“I was wondering how to make L’Anti Bar & Spectacles live again in the midst of a health crisis. I’ve been presenting virtual live shows with a ticket office since May 9. The first shows were appreciated by the spectators, we sold hundreds of tickets across Canada and in Europe during our first virtual shows. I wanted to present the first virtual metal show in Canada. I thought Anvil would be the perfect band for this show. I have an excellent relationship with them; the members of Anvil accepted without hesitation. Spectators should expect a virtual show with impeccable production quality in terms of sound, image, and lighting.”

Capturing the attention of audiences worldwide with their 2009 documentary film “The Story Of Anvil”, which bares all about the reality of the music industry, Anvil has been rocking stages since 1978. Once again, fans will be able to enjoy Anvil from the comfort of their own homes.

The soul in the solo and the gift of the riff. The blues from the heart and the colour in the art. Emerging from the underground of Montreal comes The Naked High. Joining forces in the summer of 2015, connected by a love of similar music ranging from blues to rock to metal, the dauntless quartet brings an electric chemistry to their music, amplified when they are on stage.
The Naked High is Hugo Leclerc-Charron delivering solos on guitar, Simon Ouellet with Iron Maiden-esque vocals, Phil Perreault keeping the low end steady, and Charlie Cayouette backing everything up with his rocking beat.Soon after they formed they began writing their first EP, the self-titled debut came out in 2017 and showed off their proclivity for catchy, smooth tunes with personal lyrics. Their wide variety of influences and love for rock n’ roll ensures their music is written effortlessly and naturally.

Sometimes it starts with a drum beat, or a bass line, or even a vocal line, regardless of how it starts out, it always turns into something melodic and passionate. Self-described as the ’70s meets Seattle, they combine two eras of music into their own distinct sound.

It didn’t take The Naked High long to become familiar with the stage and they have built a solid reputation and following. Focusing on charisma and providing an unforgettable experience, the band cooks up a strong live performance every time.

Fast forward to present 2020 and The Naked High have released another EP entitled “Tap Into The Evil” recently released on May 29th. The 6 songs show the evolution of their sound pushing forward into the next chapter of the band as they continue to learn from the legends that they admire while forging their own respective path in Rock N Roll.

I keep playing this one, and the digital download comes with lyrics, which are worth it for the song “Juice” alone (a song about Colonel Angus, so to speak). Buried Realm is a solo studio project, hatched from the mind of Josh Dummer. Listeners can expect to hear a whole lot of riffs, solos, and melody. The album has its traditional arrangements at times but is also built on technical and chaotic grounds. The second single off the album ‘The Wonder and Terror of Fortune’ features guests Rafael Trujillo (ex-Obscura) and Ryan Strain (Chaos For The Masses) and today is being premiered via NoCleanSinging HERE.

“Over the years, music has been a very important part of my life. It’s always been there for me in any situation, it became a lifestyle and many opportunities have come from it. For that I am grateful. With that comes the unfortunate part of losing sight of friendships, relationships, other opportunities, etc. These lyrics are about the interesting blend of excitement and sorrow that music brings to me and the constant reminder of how I’ve had to choose what‘s most important at the time.”

About:

A true visionary is a rare thing, but such a man is Josh Dummer exemplified in his solo studio project Buried Realm. Influenced by personal experience and executed through metaphors, the progressive and heavy metal leaves room for interpretation and paints an interesting picture for listeners.

Following up on his long time idea of releasing a solo album, he seized the chance with his first offering “Ichor Carcinoma”. Released in 2017 it features guests such as Christopher Amott (Arch Enemy, Armageddon), Peter Wichers (Soilwork), Teemu Mäntysaari (Wintersun) and Travis Montgomery (Threat Signal, Jeff Loomis band).

Inspired by Opeth, Kreator, Old Man’s Child, Symphony X (and tons of old Hair Metal!), Dummer is a man who is not afraid to gaze into the abyss for music and lyrical inspiration. He describes Buried Realm’s music as ‘fierce, cutting, technical, melodic, and memorable.’ The studio project represents a hidden dimension within himself where the ‘buried disputes’ of his life are confronted only through music; where he can express musical ideas without compromising.

The next chapter in Dummer’s journey is 2020’s “Embodiment of the Divine” due out July 24th and while it is parallel to the first, both musically and lyrically, it is a forward step in a sojourn that will be continuing.

25 years in the making, Canada’s SVEN GALI released their highly anticipated EP entitled “3” earlier this month on June 12th via RFL Records. Known for their fusion of 80s screaming hard rock and 90s blazing metal along with extensive touring worldwide where they have shared the stage with legends such as April Wine, Foreigner, Pearl Jam, and Def Leppard, Sven Gali‘s new EP is their long-awaited follow up to 1995’s “In Wire” and 1992’s gold-selling and Juno Award-nominated self-titled debut album released on BMG Music Canada that featured hits “Under The Influence” and “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore”.

In support of the release, the band has teamed up with Bravewords for the premiere of their new music video “Now”.Drummer Dan Fila adds:

“‘Now’ showcases the band’s raw live energy and chemistry. The video is soaked in attitude and ferocity – the same that made Sven Gali a staple in the global hard rock scene 30 years ago.”

“Wake Up” To The State of The World With NEVER ELECTED’s New Music Video via V13.net

Washington, DC’s rockers Never Elected have a new a new music video for their single “Wake Up” released this past November. An energetic and engaging track, it’s hard-hitting rock with a catchy flair along with a message from the band.

Vocalist Sujit Kumar elaborates:

“‘Wake Up’ speaks to our current world situation, where everyone gets all their information through their “Magic Window” (social media/phone/tv/computer). We continue to fight over religion, race, sex and more but only when it is #trending, ‘only to sleep again'”.

“Wake Up” can be viewed via its premiere on V13.net HERE.

“Wake Up” is the musical interlude that comes after “Down Too Long”, which was released in 2017 and precedes the new album Never Elected are working on which takes a heavier, grungier turn. The band explains the release of the single:

“This single is just an indication of what lies ahead on our next album. We dropped our tuning to D, figuring that it gives us exactly what we are looking for soundwise. Our fans love to sing along to our songs and “Wake Up” was chosen to be the single based on what the fans loved most at our live shows.”

What started out in 2015, as an acoustic rock duo playing covers evolved into a full band that began turning heads in their hometown of Washington, D.C. with their high energy live performances, which includes their frontman climbing the walls, literally. Never Elected talks about the intricacies of the single:

“Catchy riffs are matched with a catchy vocal melody reaching out to convey a message. The pauses with absolute silence in between the choruses are deliberate to kind of show how we as a society in general, WAKE UP loudly to a certain problem, think about it, and once it’s all silent, we go back to sleep again, until WOKEN UP to another issue only to repeat the same all over again.”

Citing main influences coming from the glory days of 90s grunge like Soundgarden, Foo Fighters and Alice in Chains, Never Elected is recommended for fans of the genre and anyone who likes hard rock.
