NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – July 31, 2020

Seattle Melodic Death DRAEMORA Cover Deftones “Minerva”

Debut EP “Awakening” Out Now via Ultra Nast Records

Every band is influenced by another, and today, Seattle’s Draemora is excited to share a cover version of a group that they have admired very much over the years, Deftones and their infamous song “Minerva” from the 2003 self-titled album.

When asked why they chose this Deftones track to cover, Draemora guitarist Terry Jenkins explained:

“Deftones has been the single most important band to me as an artist from childhood to adulthood. It’s been there throughout my ups and downs and shaped me as a human for better or worse. The quarantine has given me a lot of time to reflect and think, this led to creating material. I revisited this song recently and it gave me chills listening to it, just like the first time I heard it. When Draemora released our EP ‘Awakening’, it was clear to me that it was unclear to our listeners what exactly are the influences of this band, so I thought it would be best to just cover some of our very favorite songs that we felt were important to us, this is the first one. We hope you enjoy it, it was a labor of love making it.”

Listen to Draemora‘s cover version of Deftones’ “Minerva” HERE.

Draemora‘s debut EP “Awakening”, released this past June via Ultra Nast Records is nothing short of heavy, melodic metal infused with honest and heartfelt lyrics. This combination works perfectly with the band’s mission to evoke an intense emotional and spiritual experience that brings out the raw emotions that are suppressed all day in normal day to day lives.

Guitarist Terry Jenkins elaborates the story behind the writing of “Awakening”:

“It’s intense and beautiful.  It’s angry, sad, and uplifting and I think it is a reflection of a human living in modern-day society.  The majority of the lyrics are a culmination of direct excerpts from letters, poems, and life experiences from the period between May 2018 and August 2019.  It was a very intense time in my life.  A relationship I had been in for 10 years was falling apart due to my addiction problems and I had just got sober at the end of April 2018.  Being sober after being intoxicated and high for 16 years was like living in a different world all together.  I had to finally face all of the things I had put off for a very long time and it was like I was learning how to do everything in my life all over again.  I used lyrics and music to channel a lot of those feelings and get it out.  When I was in the beginning, I relied on listening to a few specific metal albums to keep me from slipping into the dark, and without those pieces of music, I may not be walking the earth right now.  I was going to keep this stuff to myself but, the realization that I needed to feel like I wasn’t alone by listening to music that spoke candidly about the same things that I was going through almost forced me to share my stories and others stories on this EP with someone else who is going through the same stuff.”

Recommended for fans of Strapping Young Lad, Whitechapel, and Nevermore, Draemora‘s “Awakening” is available Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Google Play HERE.

“Draemora’s new EP Awakening is a 17 minute melodic death metal piece with more twists and turns than your average M. Night Shyamalan movie. This is a band that doesn’t stick to the tradition melo-death sounds, instead looking to incorporate some clean singing, some progressive sections and some experimental sounds… This is an EP that incorporates many different sounds, but doesn’t have any filler… A very unique debut release from Draemora.” – Metal Injection

“‘Guilt’ features the band’s penchant for mixing their brutal modern metal with glorious rock melodies! Think of a sound that meshes Gojira, Alien Weaponry, Faith No More, and the more recent era of Lamb of God, and you might begin to understand the group!” – Ghost Cult Mag

“In this playthrough of their song “Guilt” we see Terry from Draemora ripping away with his Fender Telecaster. His tele is loaded with a single EMG 57 and he’s boosting that guy with an Ibanez TS9 going directly into his Mesa. The deadly tone of the 2-channel and a heavy rhythm hand are such a great combo.” – Gear Gods

“A haunting, eerie melody opens “Home” with the an Allegaeon esq melodic moment before some DJent infused riffage takes hold and Wood delivers the kind of unclean vocals that leave you with 3rd degree burns on the inside of your throat. “The video is meant to capture the day in the life of a drug addict/alcoholic. Take the video how you want, but to me, it’s just a depiction of the brutal loneliness of addiction, and the damage it can do.”

About:

Draemora was formed in November 2019 in the Seattle, USA area by Terry Jenkins (vocals/guitar) after his separation from his previous band Odyssian. Seeing it as an opportunity to take a chance and try something different, he wrote a handful of songs with lyrics and demoed them out at his house. These demos attracted the attention of soon to be bandmate, ex-Jesus Wears Armani drummer Jared Conelie and ex-Odyssian vocalist Taylor Wood.

After fleshing out the demos with their own personal touches on the songs, Jenkins found local guitar player Max Taylor and set out to record the 5 song EP “Awakening”.

The EP is nothing short of heavy, melodic metal infused with honest and heartfelt lyrics; This combination works perfectly with the band’s mission to evoke an intense emotional and spiritual experience that brings out the raw emotions that are suppressed all day in normal day to day lives.

“This EP lyrically is all about battles with drugs and alcohol and the long journey out of that hell.  I feel that it will connect with anyone who has ever had mental problems, family problems, or experienced relationships falling apart. I didn’t want to come across as disingenuous, or contrived and wrote about things that I really went through and put my life and my problems out there for anyone to interact with as they wish. I think this recording is intense and beautiful.  It’s angry and sad and uplifting and I think is a reflection of a human living in modern-day society.” says Jenkins.

With a slight pause in the band’s plans due to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Draemora is already working away on a full-length album to follow and getting ready for when they can pummel crowds live with their heavy melodic brand of progressive death metal.

The EP, lyrically, is about battling with drugs and alcohol, and the long journey out of that hell. Heavy, prodigious and heartfelt, vocalist/guitarist Terry Jenkins notes his personal attachments to the lyrics he writes:

“The lyrics come right out of the pages of my life, the things I went through, and how I got through them. Music is a huge outlet for me to dump the good times, bad times, and everything else in between. The majority of the lyrics are a culmination of direct excerpts from letters, poems, and life experiences from the period between May 2018 and August 2019. It was a very intense time in my life.”

Today, the band shares their second guitar playthrough for the last song on the EP ‘Legion of Scum’.  The track is the heaviest on the release. It starts off with heavy riffs and just keeps beating you over the head till the end.  This is a banger of a track and one of the band’s favorites to play.

Guitarist Terry Jenkins adds:

“If you love Mesa/Boogie Rectifiers, Fender Strats, and Metal with huge epic riffs you are going to really enjoy this playthrough! This song is so damn fun to play and I hope you enjoy the playthrough!!! If you have additional comments feel free to ask in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer them!! Word!!!”

Today, the band is excited to present their next single ‘Guilt’. The track starts off with vocals and a guitar, but quickly changes gears and enters areas that can be compared to “Alien”-era Strapping Young Lad moments. It’s very powerful and intense.

The band elaborates more:

“The lyrics are loosely about how hard we all struggle to keep up appearances to people we are friends and acquaintances with while we are churning inside from fear that if we were to tell them what we really felt, or how we viewed sociological constructs and political stances that they would discard us as a friend. Feeling like your wrong is a common feeling in society these days.  Social media is great as it has in some ways kept us all closer to each other, but in a lot of ways, it has destroyed some of our ability to tolerate our fellow humans on the earth that may not agree with us, as we can just delete them and block their opinion quite literally from our life.  The message of the song is that you should not feel guilty for disagreeing with another person, just make sure you aren’t perpetuating your own pain by being intolerant of other’s views as well.”

Recommended for fans of Strapping Young Lad, Whitechapel, and Nevermore; the single “Guilt” is available via its premiere on GhostCultMag HERE.

Their debut EP “Awakening” is due out June 26, 2020 via Ultra Nast Records and will be available on all major digital platforms.

The majority of the lyrics are a culmination of direct excerpts from letters, poems, and life experiences from the period between May 2018 and August 2019. It was a very intense time in my life.”

The single “Home” is the most technical song on the EP; energetic and powerful, it’s the first song on the album and sets the mood for the duration of the record. The lyrical content is dark and moody, the music is ferocious and impactful. Jenkins goes into detail:

“A lot of us reach for substances, to put off having to deal with things and unfortunately some never get out of that brutal cycle and erase themselves from the earth, I have known a few souls that didn’t make it. I wanted the song to convey the message that in a world that is so dark and brutal sometimes there is always hope for those who want to find it, and you don’t have to destroy yourself to figure that out.”

Recommended for fans of Strapping Young Lad, Whitechapel, and Nevermore; the single “Home” is available via its premiere on TheCirclePit‘s Youtube HERE.
