Grenoble, France’s AVALAND will welcome fans to their symphonic and operatic metal world when they release their debut album “Theater of Sorcery” on April 2, 2021, via Rockshots Records.

Today, the band presents their third single “Let The Wind Blow” featuring guests Zaher Zorgati (Myrath), Madie (Nightmare/Faith In Agony), Heli Andrea (Mobius/OLANE), and Jeff Kanji.

Band founder and mastermind Adrien G. Gzagg comments about the track:

“I was inspired a lot by the 80’s AOR rock for this song. The chorus is one that continuously loops the most in my mind. As part of the album’s storyline, the song introduces Adam’s Beloved, Solveig performed by Heli Andrea, and Adam’s Best Friend Jacob voiced by Jeff Kanji.

Inspired by heroic fantasy, history, mythologies, and esoterism, Adrien G. Gzagg decided to create an epic story album with 8 characters. Entitled “Theater Of Sorcery”, the debut will be a theatrical metal adventure that tells the story of a young sorcerer Adam Wilstorm who could be the salvation of bringing back the light to the kingdom of Avaland and during his journey, he must learn to control his powers linked to the Storm.

For AVALAND, Gzagg reunited with four musician friends Camille Souffron (Bass), Christophe Feutrier (Guitars), Lucas Martinez (Guitars), and Léo Mouchonay (Drums) that he has performed with in the past to help him to record the metal opera’s debut full-length. The record also includes talented guests for vocals and guitars with Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear), Zak Stevens (Savatage/TSO), Zaher Zorgati (Myrath), Emmanuelson (Rising Steel), Stéphan Forté (Adagio), Madie (Nightmare) among many other great musicians.

Gzagg adds:

“I started my heavy metal life as a great fan of Avantasia and Ayreon. I was impressed by those big teams Tobias Sammet and Arjen Lucassen could create. I quickly knew I would make something like this in my life! It wasn’t easy to find musicians who were crazy enough to follow me in this adventure, and I thank them so much for their trust in this project, especially guitarist Christophe Feutrier (guitars) my partner in crime for Avaland for 5 years now.

I like to also add that Avaland is not a “classic” band, it’s a Metal-Opera and when Covid is over, I plan to take it the stage with many vocalists to perform this theatrical tale of an epic and magical story. To sum it up, Avaland is a modern-age opera to not just fans of metal, but beyond!”

The debut album “Theater of Sorcery” will be released on April 2, 2021.

Devilz By Definition Bring A Heavy Dose Of Thrashy Groove With “Peace By Piece” Off Upcoming EP

Lyric Video Premiere via Bravewords

New EP “The Bitter Remains of Human Consumption” Out April 20, 2021

Windsor’s Devilz by Definition is a band that has been recreated many times in the past decade, and the current iteration is gearing up to drop a new EP “The Bitter Remains of Human Consumption”. The initial tease from this release is the single “Peace by Piece”, a four and a half minute, groove-heavy track that boasts thrashy licks and catchy lyrics.

After honing their skills with a full length and two EPs, Devilz by Definition has come into their own, and “The Bitter Remains” is by far the most refined music they’ve ever created. Its insidious groove permeates the brain to get feet tapping and heads banging. Compared to previous efforts, this EP is heavier, groovier, and more technical, which will leave fans hungry for another.

The band prides itself on bringing forth a message or sense of morality in their music, evident in the single, which relates to mental health awareness. The band explains it in their own words:

“This EP represents the world we live in and the changes that are tearing us apart as individuals and as a race. It is also about the unity that music brings into this darkness. The premise of the single is that the pieces of ourselves that sometimes get lost along the way and the effort of putting them back together Peace by Piece. In essence, life is a puzzle and we are all the pieces”

“The Bitter Remains of Human Consumption” delivers an unforgettable experience of headbanging, grooving, and face-melting guitar solos. The lyrics are memorable and easily relatable.

Devilz by Definition’s brand of groove thrash is recommended for fans of Lamb of God, Pantera, and Parkway Drive.

The lyric video “Peace by Piece” can be heard and seen via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

About:
Initially formed in 2010, Windsor, Canada’s Devilz by Definition is a band reborn many times, in many ways, and has always come back stronger and heavier than the last time. No obstacle has stood in their path to date and none will, these are driven and hard-working musicians with a passion for the live show. Their energy both on and off the stage is unique and captivating.

The formation of the band happened completely by accident. Popz Munro was just learning how to play guitar and jamming with friend Timguy when they decided to add more friends to the gang. After a couple of months, they were offered a show and they fell in love with performing live music. Since then they have shared the stage with bands such as The Faceless, Revocation, Cryptopsy, and Beyond Creation and appeared at several regional festivals.

With a constant revolving door of members and instrumental position changes, the band has changed drastically over the last decade. From punk/thrash in the early years to more of a refined metalcore/groove sound in recent releases.

Since their inception, Devilz by Definition have released two EPs, “Blood Drawn” (2010), and “Rape of a Czar” (2014); a full length “The Devilution” (2016) and have another EP “The Bitter Remains of Human Consumption” expected in 2021.

“the Groove Metal crowd will eat this up ” – Metal Temple

“They pulled in the most crowd response of any group who performed that night, encouraging moshing and headbanging from those assembled. The band members themselves were all over the stage, hair flying and scowls shooting from every direction. Devilz also introduced the audience to a new track entitled “Trainwreck“, which opens with a very well-performed imitation of a locomotive picking up speed before getting into some surprisingly funky riffs and ultimately flowing into the expected heavy metal sound.” – Metal Nation (Live Review 2018)

“Devilz By Definition have certainly made a name for themselves in the local scene. They are known for fast paced, tight, super energetic shows, this group of hardcore thrashers make a party out of every performance.” – Windsorite

“These guys seemingly came out of nowhere last year and have mercilessly released their aggression on the metal masses of Windsor like a war between thunder gods with M60′s. They’ve come a long way and have kept a loyalty to a lot of the other bands that came up with them, playing a lot of same bills to help raise awareness for a lot of up and coming bands and giving them some great exposure.”  – The Windsor Zene

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – March 11, 2021

For fans of Sylosis, Paradise Lost, The Haunted

Rockshots Records Signs NAHAYA For New Album “Vital Alchemy” Out May 21st

(ft. Members of Oceans of Slumber, Vesperian Sorrow, ex-Kingdom Collapse, Painting The Massacre, Cerebral Desecration)

Rockshots Records announces their latest signing of NAHAYA (ft. members of Oceans of Slumber, Vesperian Sorrow, ex-Kingdom Collapse, Painting The Massacre, Cerebral Desecration). The Texan band is an amalgamation of American melodic groove thrash, Gothenburg sounds, and Middle Eastern influences. The band was founded in 2013 by Ryan Peters with Semir Ozerkan, who immigrated to the US from Istanbul, Turkey to pursue career opportunities in metal, one being with Oceans of Slumber.

The new album, entitled “Vital Alchemy” due out on May 21, 2021 follows NAHAYA‘s well-received EPs “Transcendence Pt. II” (2020) and “Transcendence” (2018). Since the band’s conception, they have been working hard to make a name for themselves independently, performing over 50 shows year-round in Texas and neighboring states including Austin’s SXSW festival and becoming national finalists for the 2019 Wacken Metal Battle USA competition.

The band comments on their signing:

“We are extremely excited to release our new album “Vital Alchemy” with our newest label Rockshots Records. This was a longtime coming for Nahaya to reach its target around the world. We totally believe that every track in this album we put all of our emotions into. We see this release as a milestone for the band.’

NAHAYA‘s new album “Vital Alchemy”, mastered by Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, Scale the Summit), are seven tracks that will take fans through a wide range of emotions. There is something on this record for every kind of music lover. From the melody to the groove to the speed and unlike its predecessors that were focused on themes of science fiction, this new record takes on more personal interest, spirituality, and metaphysics along with it being more musically dynamic and experimental, incorporating progressive, acoustic, melancholic sounds with thrashing elements.

Overall, “Vital Alchemy”, signifies a rebirth for NAHAYA as the new tracks featured on the recording are the next step in the band’s evolution when it comes to their musical direction.

“We’ve now reached a point where the future seems very bright and many different paths can and will be followed when it comes to future musical endeavors. We’ve surpassed our own expectations when it comes to this album. We couldn’t be more proud.” adds Semir Ozerkan.

“Jack Of All Trades” uses clever drum timing between guitar riffs which assaults the senses in different ways and rattles your eardrums like an off-balanced washing machine. Canadian Metalcore Proggers Maitreya Share Guitar Playthrough “Departed”

Guitar Playthrough Premiere via Technical Music Review

“Hyper Reels” Out June 25, 2021

L-R: Matt McCabe (Guitar), Steve McMillan (Drums), Matt Cutrara (Vocals), Lyam Morrison (Bass), Mark Wylie (Guitar)

Hailing from Oshawa, Canada, progressive metalcore Maitreya announced earlier this year they will be unleashing their new album “Hyper Reels” on June 25th, 2021. In lead up to the full-length’s release, the band has so far shared two singles, “Catalyst” and “Departed”.

As they continue to showcase a barrage of complexity intertwined with melody, the band is sharing their new guitar playthrough for “Departed”, the most complex and exploratory song on the record. It demonstrates an evolving and progressive song structure, illustrating the band’s signature bag of tricks; frenetic riffs, operatic layered vocals, crushing breakdowns, and dense textures.

The guitar playthrough for “Departed” can be viewed via its premiere on TechnicalMusicReview HERE.

“Departed” is available on YouTube, Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music here.

For fans of The Contortionist, Between the Buried and Me, and Protest the Hero, Maitreya‘s forthcoming album “Hyper Reels” boasts a higher degree of musical technicality, filthy breakdowns and a wider range on the vocals ebbing from melodic cleans into sustained growls set to a whirlwind of complicated riffs. The album as a whole was put under a microscope during its creation, forcing Maitreya to refine every element and mature past their previous releases. It shows vastly improved musicianship that will only continue to grow as the band forges onward in their career.

“Hyper Reels is an honest expression and discovery of what Maitreya is all about. We lived with these songs for years, honing them on stage and in the studio. This album details our evolution as a band, remaining true to our metalcore roots and highlighting a trajectory not confined to any particular subgenre. Our intention with this record was to craft songs with strong conceptual meanings paired with musical creativity that remains catchy.” adds the band.

Lyrically, “Hyper Reels” delves deep into societal and philosophical themes regarding identity, organizational value, free will, truth, and spirituality along with touching on topics in science fiction, artificial intelligence, cybernetic enhancement, and the new technological consciousness. It communicates feelings of anger, frustration, and isolation, as well as optimism, freedom, and inspiration.

The full album “Hyper Reels” is out on June 25, 2021.

Album pre-save here.

Music Video “Catalyst” – YouTube

“We’re always on the hunt for interesting new metal bands, and Canada’s Maitreya certainly qualifies. The band’s newest single, “Catalyst”, treads familiar progressive metal territory – think vocals similar to Leprous and instrumentation akin to older BTBAM – but rest assured it sounds fresh.” – New Fury Media

“Ambitious and aggressive, Canada’s Maitreya break boundaries from the beginning with Departed. Heavy, contemporary metal chords are underscored by droning, chorusing vocals, but blink and you’ll miss them as Maitreya soon change direction to a growling verse pandemonium. Their riffing is adventurous and deadly, cutting through weighty, rolling rhythms and movements.” – Jace Media

“Their musical abilities were astounding, and I believe they could have been each individually the most technically capable with their instruments of those performing that night.” – Metal Master Kingdom

“Lead-heavy, yet at the same time musically complex, Maitreya’s music is sonic baptism, taking the listener from the fire pits to the icy peaks. The band’s self-titled album weaves an intricate melodic narrative, where both headbanging metal-heavy riffs and reflective vocal lines co-exist in the vortex of sonic alchemy, presented to the listener in its raw, unfiltered elemental form.” – Dentata Music

0 Italy’s Reality Grey Release “Multidimensional Hollow” Off “Beneath This Crown”, Video Premiere via MetalInjection

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – March 10, 2021

For fans of Soilwork, As I Lay Dying, Scar Symmetry, Lamb of God, Unearth

Italy’s Reality Grey Release “Multidimensional Hollow” Off “Beneath This Crown”

Video Premiere via MetalInjection

“Beneath This Crown” Out May 7, 2021

L-R – Francesco Inchingolo (Drums), Alex Giustino (Bass), Tommaso Montenegro (Vocals), Anto Addabbo (Guitars/Clean Vocals), Alberto Pinto (Guitars)

Reality Grey, hailing from Italy, recently announced their fourth full-length album “Beneath This Crown”. Formed in 2004, they have made their names known internationally with their ever-changing sound, which resonates with a variety of metalheads.

The current form of Reality Grey is melodic, catchy, and aggressive. With the first single from “Beneath This Crown” they are reintroducing themselves to the world with the most progressive song on the album. “Multidimensional Hollow”, complete with a lyric video available on YouTube, is very melodic and complex featuring fast guitar solos and an epic finale. Guitarist Anto Addabbo describes his thoughts on the track:

“When I wrote this song I was listening to a lot of sci-fi soundtracks from movies and I think it influenced how the track came together at the end, it has different feels throughout its length. Lyrically the song is about the struggle to succeed in life. Things don’t always go like you hope they will and not everyone knows how to cope with failure.”

“Beneath This Crown” blends the melodic and experimental part of the band with their most brutal and aggressive side, resulting in a dynamic listening experience and their most innovative album yet. It is recommended for fans of As I Lay Dying, Scar Symmetry, and Lamb of God.

“Multidimensional Hollow” can be heard via its lyric video’s premiere on MetalInjection HERE.

“Beneath This Crown” will be out via Blood Blast Distribution, powered by Nuclear Blast as of May 7, 2021.

About:
Hailing from South Italy, Reality Grey stands tall in the Italian metal scene. Formed in 2004, Reality Grey began their quest to redefine melodic death metal. As a tight-knit 5 piece band, Reality Grey incorporates a modern hybrid of extreme music: melody, brutality; blending complex, yet catchy songwriting. Fearsome death growls & clean vocals give way to razor-sharp guitar riffs and fusion-oriented solos, Reality Grey set out to create something all their own.

With the release of the debut full-length album “Darkest Days Are Yet To Come” in 2006, in the heat of the melodic death metal revolution, Reality Grey managed to secure their first record deal with Razar Ice Records USA. Songs like “Reality Grey” and “Never again” racked up hundreds of thousands plays on the old MySpace allowing the band to tour, gaining popularity well beyond the Italian borders. Following up with EP “Day Zero”, Reality Grey began to push their own boundaries. Ferocious, yet melodic, with a no-holds-barred songwriting attitude. Songs like “Day Zero” and “Slavery” emerged the band’s experimental side, synths, melancholic pianos, and acoustic guitars; perfectly fused with intoxicating sonic aggression.

After years of non-stop touring alongside bands like Deicide, Unearth, Municipal Waste, Sadist, Malevolent Creation, and more, the critically acclaimed “Define Redemption” is released by Bakerteam/Scarlet Records; sending the band on their first headline tour in Japan. Reality Grey, now having been featured on worldwide publications Metal Injection, Metal Hammer UK, Metal Temple, and Metal.de, released 2018’s “The Void”. Reviewed as “a complete and total aural devastation…” that “will blow your speaker out” by Metal Injection.

Reality Grey has completed work on their upcoming full-length due out May 7th 2021 (Blood Blast Distribution powered by Nuclear Blast). Looking ahead with tours and festival appearances on their sights, Reality Grey will continue to push ambitiously, earning their place among the pantheon of heavy music.

Now, having inked a worldwide deal with Extreme Management Group (EMG), the band says “We’re thrilled to announce that we have started working with Extreme Management Group! Definitely the right place for us. Big news is coming very soon. Stay tuned!” EMG said, “We are excited to be working with Reality Grey. They have some really fantastic music. We expect big things to come from this partnership.”.

“Reality Grey give off a viciousness and expertise hard to find in other bands. The instrumental expertise of each component is absolute, slighting touching tech-death side of acts like The Faceless but remaining ‘catchy’ in their complexity” – Metal Hammer

“It’s complete and total aural devastation with some seriously chunky moments, so it lives right up to what you’d expect a song called “The Void” to do.” – Metal Injection

“Reality Grey will serve the world of metal excellently both as an all round, no nonsense, metal act and as a brigde band for younger fans of heavy music” – Metalunderground.at

Montreal, QC – March 9, 2021

Armstrong MetalFest 2021 Cancelled

Western Canada’s Largest Metal Festival To Return In 2022

Watch the official video recap of AMF 2019 here.
(video created by Mayne Brand Productions)

The music industry thrives from the live engagement of artists and fans. In 2020 and still continuing into 2021, the world has witnessed the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic with businesses, events and general livelihoods being completely interrupted.

Following guidelines from British Columbia’s provincial government, one of Western Canada’s most beloved metal festivals, Armstrong MetalFest was forced to cancel their 2020 edition for what would have been their 12th consecutive year of bringing metal music to the Okanagan Valley in Armstrong, BC.

Hoping to present a 2021 event, West Metal Entertainment Society, the organizer of Armstrong MetalFest, sadly announce, as the COVID-19 pandemic still continues, and strict health rules on gatherings are still in place, they will be forced to cancel this year’s two-day celebration of live heavy metal and camping that would have been hosted on July 16th and 17th.

AMF organizers comment:

“Like many music fans, we were optimistic on 2021 being the year of live music coming back to stages, but we believe as we still must endure this pandemic, we will have to be patient for just a little bit longer. We’re confident that 2022 will be the year that we will see fans and bands reunite at Armstrong MetalFest.”

Ticket holders for AMF 2020 that were planning to use them for 2021 are asked to hold onto their tickets as they’ll be honoured for the choice of attending one of the next three years of the festival through 2022-2024.

For more information, ticket holders can inquire by emailing – info[@]armstrongmetalfest[.]ca.

For more information about hosting events and COVID-19 safety planning from the BC Centre For Disease Control, please visit the following link here.

Since 2009, West Metal Entertainment and Armstrong Metalfest has not only fostered the talent of hundreds of local bands but brought in well-known, international acts to the quiet, little Canadian town of Armstrong, British Columbia.

Each year up to 700 metalheads from Canada and the USA descend into the picturesque Okanagan Valley and under the blistering sun they spend three days camping, taking in over 30 bands, participating in wrestling events, and scavenger hunts and catching up with their metal family.

The festival has seen such renowned headliners as Kataklysm, Cattle Decapitation, Archspire, Nekrogoblikon, and Beyond Creation as well as emerging artists from across North America. At the end of the revelry, the festival disappears without a trace, leaving the landscape as pristine as it has always been.

West Metal Entertainment is a non-profit society that not only puts on Armstrong Metal Festival every year in Armstrong, B.C., but gives bands opportunities to play different venues throughout the region including all-ages shows, to encourage musical passion in kids as well as adults.

Canadian thrash legends Anonymus’ unleashed their award-winning (GAMIQ Awards) and 12 studio album “La Bestia” (Bam&Co Heavy) during June 2020. The album is the band’s first Spanish album that follows their discography of both French and English releases. Many metalheads and critics asked the most relevant question, why an album in Spanish? The answer… since Drummer Carlos Araya is Chilean born, and Oscar (lead vocals and bass) and Dan Souto (guitars and backing vocals) are sons of Spanish immigrants, it was only inevitable to make a record in that language that 3/4 of the band is fluent in.

The tracks on “La Bestia” were produced mainly by guitarist Jef Fortin as well as Colin Richardson who also produced 1999’s ‘Instinct’ and Jean-Francois Dagenais (Kataklysm) who produced 2006’s ‘Chapter Chaos Begins’. The album also features the bilingual song “Violencia Versus Violence” with the participation of Carlos Maldos of Lethal Creation (MX) and Arno Dhenain Le Bourhis of Black Bomb A (FR) along with a second bilingual track “Tierra” with Marco Calliari singing in Italian.

Today, Anonymus bassist Oscar Souto and guitarist Jef Fortin present their latest playthrough for the track “Cada Loco Con Su Tema”, which can be watched via its premiere on Bass Magazine HERE.

“La Bestia” is available for stream and download on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer HERE. Vinyl HERE.

About:

Anonymus is a Canadian thrash metal band that explodes on stage with each presence, that pulls you in with its passion and that yells at you with corrosive and violent texts that will not leave anyone indifferent.

Since their first release in 1994, Anonymus has made its mark on the Quebec music scene. From the beginning, the group has been well received while demonstrating its brutal sound and technique that has continually evolved over the years. Oscar Souto (vocals, bass) Daniel Souto (guitar, vocals) Carlos Araya (drums), Jef Fortin (guitar since 2006) and Marco Calliari (vocals, guitar from 1994 to 2006) have since widely traveled the roads of their country, participated in the deprivation of Mononc’Serge and continue today to ignite stages everywhere they go. These veterans of the metal scene continue to proudly carry the torch after 20 years of chaos and barbaric music.

Forever hungry for metal, everyone in Anonymus brings ideas to the table. Sometimes it is a whole song or just the beginnings of one, yet together the band works to create a full thrashy anthem from the pieces, working on it until it is complete. The music always comes first, and when the ambiance is formulated, the lyrics, which come from a personal place and from current events, can be added.

Unstoppable and indestructible, inspired by bands like Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax; Anonymus is nothing short of the powerful, aggressive and technical thrash metal that they have been refining for decades exemplified on their impressive discography of both French and English releases, which includes: “Ni vu, ni connu” (1994); Stress (1996); Instinct (1999); Daemonium (2002); Academie du Massacre (2003); Chapter Chaos Begins (2006); Musique Barbare (2008); État Brute (2011); Envers et contre tous (2015); P.O.M.M.E (2017); Sacrifices (2019); and their first-ever Spanish album La Bestia (2020) due out June 12 via label Bam&co Heavy.

Today, Anonymus does not need a presentation. This institution of the Quebec metal industry has been offering for twenty-six years, a passion for dark notes and unrivaled power. The offer is still valid. With more than 1500 career shows under their belt, Anonymus is completely in their element when performing in front of fans, they offer only their absolute best ensuring the crowd is moving. Having shared the stage with metal great such as Anthrax, Cannibal Corpse, and Kataklysm at festivals such as Heavy Montreal, Montebello, and through international tours, they are no strangers to a wild show.

ANONYMUS FOLLOWS ITS PATH, AGAINST ALL ODDS!

– 30 –

“Anonymus mix together some of the best from Slayer and Lamb of God. Allowing for some of incredibly strong extreme metal on La Bestia. If you need any proof, tracks “Sobrevivir” and “Violencia Versus Violence” are easy stand outs for melding some spectacular sections and making the most of the band’s sound.” – Metal Injection

“a savage barrage of brutality from Anonymus, featuring break neck speed thrash that’s in your face and intense. 9/10” – Metal Gods TV

“La Bestia hits bluntly and brutishly. It certainly lives up to it’s name, the beast.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“What a musical violence! Thrash lovers would do well to give this album of Spanish Canadians a listen.” – Arrow Lords of Metal

“Thrashy heavy stuff with a Sepultura-like groove and probably having the lyrics in Spanish help with the vibe… the catch? They’re from Quebec! ” – WORT 89.9 FM – Mosh Pit Radio (Madison, WI)

“The album has a very “bouncy” vibe that really gets the foot tapping and despite the album sounding overall angry, this anger comes off as fun. There’s no way in hell that anyone would stand still when the band plays anything on this album live. If you’re like me and usually more into the classic thrash sound and its close derivatives and feel like trying something else, La Bestia might just be what the doctor ordered.” – The Metal Crypt

Synastry Use Groove And Aggression To Split Strands On “Dividing The Double Helix”

Title-Track Premiere via TheCirclePit

Montreal’s Synastry has been hard at work in the past year; after re-forming early in 2020, they released an EP “Civilization’s Coma” in November, now they are announcing the release of another EP “Dividing The Double Helix” slated for March 26, 2021.

This second EP offers more groove and aggressiveness than the first, and it’s apparent that Synastry aims to give fans more of what they are used to, without rehashing old ideas. Thematically these three new songs are similar to “Civilization’s Coma”, but the delivery takes a different form. The band shares their thoughts on the EP’s title track and single “Dividing The Double Helix”:

“We are very happy to be able to share this track with listeners everywhere. It’s the kind of song that will hook you right away and has a little something for everyone. As you listen to it more and more, you can hear your cells dividing and your DNA being infiltrated by Synastry’s relentless grooves!”

There is more in store for fans of Synastry, they explain that the lyrical concept for this EP and the rest of the EPs they are planning on releasing are written from the viewpoint of the individual’s view of themselves in relation to society. The hope that the individual can take the responsibility to be ‘better’ for the whole while not compromising their own wants, needs, and beliefs.

“Dividing The Double Helix” is heavy, modern metal that is easy to get into, but at the same time, interesting enough to not be a flash in the pan. It is recommended for fans of Veil of Maya, Born of Osiris, and Within the Ruins.

The lead single and EP title track “Dividing The Double Helix” can be heard via its premiere on TheCirclePit HERE.

“Dividing The Double Helix” will be available in its entirety on March 26, 2021 on Synastry.bandcamp.com, Spotify, Apple Music.

About:
It takes courage for a band to integrate such distinct thrash, death, and industrial influences into a catchy yet multilayered approach as do Montreal’s Synastry.

Each metal listener desires something different and thus a band exists for every taste. Inspired to a certain point by melodic, futuristic death thrash, Synastry binds to these influences a threatening mid-paced groove, atmospheric textures, and the unmistakable gruff and mature vocals of James Aniston. Flanked by guitarist Paul Iverson and bassist Gary Vee, and backed up by the thunderous Kay Kessler, Synastry is a crushing wall of well thought out and meticulously written metal. Lyrics come from Aniston’s impression of the world and his experiences in it which are layered with the collaborative music that all band members contribute to.

Started originally in the early 00s, the Montreal band took the underground scene by storm, they climbed the Myspace ranks, toured the regions, and released “Pallets Of My New World” (2006) (EP) and Blind Eyes Bleed (2008) (LP). In 2012, the band went dormant, where they remained until 2020 and awakened the world with the rumbling sounds of their resurrection in the form of EP “Civilization’s Coma”. Its mission amidst the widespread uncertainty of Covid times was to sweep the globe and to explore humanity, the singularity, and its morality.

Just like a rising phoenix, Synastry continues to burn its flames by kicking off 2021 with another EP.

Entitled “Dividing The Double Helix”, the EP is three tracks best described as a fast-paced groove fest that will once again hook fans from the first note and make you bang your head throughout. It’s simply heavy groovy brutality!

“We hope to give fans more of what they are used to from us, without rehashing old ideas. Thematically these 3 songs are similar to Civilization’s Coma EP, but the delivery is different. The lyrics from these three new tracks are very personal to me. It comes from my impression of how I feel I fit in the modern world, and how I see myself.” says vocalist James Aniston.

“Dividing The Double Helix” is due out on March 26, 2021.

– 30 –

“This new song (Dead To Me) is a short, sharp kick to the head — and it does kick like a furious mule, albeit a massive and mechanized one. The music is fast and ferocious, loaded with pulse-rifle riffs and hammering drums, blaring chords and squirming arpeggios, booming bass and a mix of serrated-edge growls and incendiary screams. The music is heavy-grooved, with a bit of a start-stop quality that hints at industrial influences to go along with the death/thrashing momentum, and also effectively creates an atmosphere of menace and mayhem. It may bring memories of Lamb of God to mind as well as Fear Factory.” – No Clean Singing (2020 Review – Civilization’s Coma)

“This EP contains lyrics that people from all walks of life can relate to and shines a much-needed light on each individual’s importance in the grand scheme. Given the year we have had collectively, this is one new age metal album that the world needed. If you’re looking for a futuristic metal EP with a deeper meaning, “Civilization’s Coma” is a must listen.” 10.10 – Metal Temple (2020 Review – Civilization’s Coma)

“The hammer blow that is “Dead to Me” was the first single, front loaded with schizophrenic riffs and jack hammer footwork Synastry have wasted no time in delivering something that is straight to the point with vicious intent. There is even time for blast beats and some Godflesh inspired industrial noises that frame and enhance segments. Aniston has the power to manipulate his voice to create a number of different voices with the use of pitching and on the ripper that is “Narcomancy“, he sounds like he’s going slowly insane.” – Metal Noise (2020 Review – Civilization’s Coma)

“James Aniston’s throat abrasions are raucous and psychopathic at the same time, boiling with anger and imperious might. The double-kick triplets of Kay Kessler’s drum patterns follow the syncopated guitar chugs in perfect time. Everything clicks into place like a torture machine from a Hellraiser film” – Scream Blast Repeat (2020 Review – Civilization’s Coma)

“Synastry deliver their brand of classic death metal with an industrial twist. The result is a Thrashy head-long experiment into the brutal and somewhat futuristic. Musically tight and heavy with mean riffs, Synastry try to head into a new direction for Metal.” – Sea of Tranquility (2020 Review – Civilization’s Coma)

“Montreal-based metal maulers Synastry play a brutal yet groovy style of death metal with fringes of industrial that recall bands such as Fear Factory and Killing Joke with the savagery of acts like Kataklysm.” – Gears of Rock (2020 Review – Civilization’s Coma)

WarCall stands for all the fights we are fighting on a daily basis. It represents the struggle in life, the challenges we have to rise to. We get called to war every day and it is up to us to step up and face our fears. The DIY Canadian quartet heeds this mantra, consistently pushing boundaries with their fast, dramatic metal music. Their forthcoming endeavour, the first of two EPs to be released in 2021, “Dead End Pt. 1” embodies that drive.

The lead single and music video from this EP is “The Chase”, which follows the narrative of vengeance, a man becomes unhealthy and takes pleasure in making his neighbor suffer. He sinks into a bottomless abyss that leads to his own downfall. The band explains their experience creating the song:

“The Chase is straight up, in your face WarCall. It is the last song we wrote and recorded for the album. The video was really fun to shoot, in the few weeks of 2020 when we could have a social life and see each other. Epic day. We played the song live, in the barn, with a real PA and everything. Over the 12 takes, we were really sweaty and exhausted at the end! The actors and the director were really into their roles and the band was following along, beer-drinking and helping the best we could, but mostly, enjoying the day.”

Instead of waiting for a full length to be done, WarCall is releasing two EPs, the first as “Dead End Pt. 1” making it the fifth release from the band, which will be followed up with “Dead End pt. 2” later this year, both were written, performed, recorded, mixed and mastered entirely by the band. The first part is in-your-face, old-school-inspired metal, whereas the second part will be more progressive and atmospheric.

Totally authentic, with a wide range of influences ranging from old school death metal to classic rock, WarCall is recommended for fans of Motorhead, Metallica, and Dissection.

“The Chase” can be heard via its music video premiere on Bravewords HERE.

“Dead End Pt. 1” will only be released digitally on April 23, 2021 via Plan B Music.

The band’s music can be found on Warcallmetal.bandcamp.com, Spotify, Apple Music.

About:
War has always been an intrinsic part of humanity. Whether it is huge wars involving entire countries or the small wars we all fight every day to survive, it is fair to say that war has defined humanity.

One of the definite treatises on war is Sun Tzu’s ‘The Art of War’; a book still in print to this very day. On the use of music in war, Sun Tzu writes: “Gongs and drums, banners and flags, are means whereby the ears and eyes of the host may be focused on one particular point.”

Now, we have WarCall, who not only use drums, but also bass, guitars, and vocals to achieve the same end with their growing army of fans.

Inspired by Iron Maiden, Metallica, Motorhead, Dissection, and Slayer, guitarist Mathieu Simard describes WarCall’s music as “fast, aggressive, melodic, dramatic!”.

Now, with four well-received albums under their bullet-belt (Invaders (2017), III (2015), Blood, Guts, and Dirt (2013), Demonarchy (2008)), this power-quartet will unleash two new EPs in 2021, “Dead End Pt. 1” on April 23rd with “Dead End Pt. 2 expected to follow in the Fall via their own label Plan B Music.

As a whole, the two EPs are a collection of 9 songs, 9 stories about struggles during 2020 (“Dead End Pt. 1” being 4 tracks). The EPs were recorded and mixed in a post-apocalyptic setting. As with every album, “Dead End Pt. 1” and “Dead End Pt. 2” are technically more advanced in terms of songwriting and production. Of course, Warcall has evolved as musicians from each album, but they believe that their total is greater than the sum of its parts, so they play what feels right for the metal.

The band comments:

“We have let the events of 2020 influence the process and the mood of the two EPs, while still aiming for a timeless production that will age well in time. The title and artwork represent the doom and gloom of life in the year 2020 and how the human race reacts in the face of death and uncertainty. With the impossibility to meet to even take a band picture, WarCall presents themselves as fictional post-apocalyptic warriors, a subtle comment and nod to the current events that marked the year 2020.”

Live, post covid times, WarCall will truly give it their all with total authenticity. What you hear on their recordings is what you hear on stage. Energetic, powerful, focused, and proficient performances ready to encourage the circle pit.

WarCall has toured Europe (FR, DE, BE, CZE, SP) three times along with multiple tours across Eastern Canada. They have also been opening support for such bands as Destruction, Anvil, Paul Di’Anno, Kalmah, Catamenia, Impaled Nazarene, Arkona, Norther, Anonymus, Slaves on Dope, Martyr, Reanimator, Wolven Ancestry.

WarCall’s new EP “Dead End Pt. 1” is due out April 23rd, 2021 via Plan B Music.

“Big things are happening for Montreal’s WarCall…Motor-Maiden-‘tallica brand of street wise thrash…” – Decibel Mag

“The creativeness they’ve put into their debut far surpasses anything else I have heard from new Canadian bands this year…Inventive, fun, crisp and a great first offering”. – Exclaim!

“WARCALL’s delivery is fresh, powerful, with good drive and melodies and this tight-knit feeling that just gives you this sense of urgency.” – The Metal Observer

“Actually, “very very heavy” doesn’t go far enough. “Bully Bastard” slugs had enough to loosen teeth and leave bruises, and the grooves are damned compulsive, too, so loosen up your neck muscles before diving into this track. But while the song rocks hard enough to shake listeners like rag dolls, the music also channels rage and intensity through the raw grit of the vocals and the grim (but very catchy) vehemence of the riffs.” – No Clean Singing

“Fans of an old school thrash/speed sound will find plenty to enjoy throughout Invaders. 10 tracks of meaty metal that makes you want to dig out the old patch jacket & head-bang until your neck fuses.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“If you enjoy old school thrash, early speedy rock ‘n’ metal MOTÖRHEAD or DARKTHRONE in their thrashy black metal/crusty punk phase then WARCALL will wet your appetite and get you salivating! Dig out your battle vest, your whitewashed denim jeans, and white trainers and bang that head furiously!” – All About The Rock

“It’s fast, it’s heavy, it’s exciting, and it doesn’t try too hard to be something it’s not, while also knowing exactly what it is. That’s a rare trait to have in a band, and it shows their consistency and maturity as songwriters; you can really tell this is not their first album. The ultimate takeaway here is that WARCALL deserve a lot more attention than what they’re currently getting. I hope to see them take things to the next level on their next full-length.” – Metal Temple
