Windsor’s Devilz by Definition is a band that has been recreated many times in the past decade, and the current iteration is gearing up to drop a new EP “The Bitter Remains of Human Consumption” on Tuesday, April 20th.

Before it’s officially released, the band has teamed up with TheCirclePit for the EP’s full stream premiere HERE.

The band adds:

“This EP represents the world we live in and the changes that are tearing us apart as individuals and as a race. It is also about the unity that music brings into this darkness. The premise of the single is that the pieces of ourselves that sometimes get lost along the way and the effort of putting them back together Peace by Piece. In essence, life is a puzzle and we are all the pieces”

After honing their skills with a full length and two EPs, Devilz by Definition has come into their own, and “The Bitter Remains” is by far the most refined music they’ve ever created. Its insidious groove permeates the brain to get feet tapping and heads banging. Compared to previous efforts, this EP is heavier, groovier, and more technical, which will leave fans hungry for another.

About:
Initially formed in 2010, Windsor, Canada’s Devilz by Definition is a band reborn many times, in many ways, and has always come back stronger and heavier than the last time. No obstacle has stood in their path to date and none will, these are driven and hard-working musicians with a passion for the live show. Their energy both on and off the stage is unique and captivating.

The formation of the band happened completely by accident. Popz Munro was just learning how to play guitar and jamming with friend Timguy when they decided to add more friends to the gang. After a couple of months, they were offered a show and they fell in love with performing live music. Since then they have shared the stage with bands such as The Faceless, Revocation, Cryptopsy, and Beyond Creation and appeared at several regional festivals.

With a constant revolving door of members and instrumental position changes, the band has changed drastically over the last decade. From punk/thrash in the early years to more of a refined metalcore/groove sound in recent releases.

Since their inception, Devilz by Definition have released two EPs, “Blood Drawn” (2010), and “Rape of a Czar” (2014); a full length “The Devilution” (2016) and have another EP “The Bitter Remains of Human Consumption” expected in 2021.

New Album “Radical Absolution” Out May 14th

Crawling Manifest is gearing up for the release of “Radical Absolution” this May and in preparation, they invite listeners to indulge in their next single “Revolution”. With this album, Crawling Manifest is in duo form, Andrew Gladu (vocals/bass/drums) and Trevor Layton (guitars) who combine their love of the thrash metal classics with a modern metal sound.

The single “Revolution” is what the band describes as a “fight song”, with a goal to inspire others to make their voices heard. They explain further:

“Being a musician makes it easy for us to speak up and be heard, but not everyone has that luxury. With this track, we wanted to motivate our listeners to speak up and use their own voices. This album has been something we’ve been able to listen to no matter what we’re doing, and we’d really like to see it be the same for others. Something that makes you think, lyrically, and makes you bang your head musically.”

“Revolution” isn’t the only fight song on the album, energy, and anger persist throughout the eight tracks that are impossible to sit still to. The lyrics are heavily inspired by all of the events that happened over the course of 2020, as the band states, “There’s a lot to be angry about in the world around us, and what we are trying to do is bring just a little more attention to it.”

“Radical Absolution” starts off with an instrumental build-up to the first track “Land of The Free”, and finishes with the last track “Onslaught” fading out to a soft, bluesy groove, a metaphor for taking deep breaths in between outbursts of pure rage.

Crawling Manifest is recommended for fans of classic thrash especially bands like Megadeth, Power Trip, and Testament.

Crawling Manifest was formed in 2014 on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, USA. The thrash metal band incorporates elements from death metal, modern metal and core.

After multiple line-up changes, live shows, and tours, playing alongside bands such as Fleshgod Apocalypse, Soulfly, Soilwork, Carach Angren and Kataklysm, remaining members Andrew Gladu and Trevor Layton made the decision to write new music taking influence from the bands they grew up listening to and combining a love of death and thrash metal into a powerful new sound.

It starts off with a beer, which turns into a riff and it just goes from there; Gladu and Layton work closely together on all aspects of the writing process, save for when they veer off to pay specific attention to lyrics and vocals.

So far, Crawling Manifest has released two EPs “Forevermore” (2016) and “Lords of War” (2019), and the full-length “Battlegrounds” (2016). In 2021, they will release a second full-length, the politically charged “Radical Absolution” on May 14th.

France’s Pathfinders’ debut full-length “Ares Vallis” is out now as of Friday, April 16th via label Music-Records.

San Diego’s MONARCH will be unleashing their sophomore album “Future Shock” on Friday, April 16th and before this electrifying thrash thriller hits the moshpit, the band has teamed up with Bravewords for its full stream premiere HERE.

The band adds:

“Future Shock hits hard on a lot of levels, there are the riffs, the solos, the speed, the heaviness, the melodies, great memorable lyrics, the dynamic range of our creativity we think was truly expressed, and yet we still managed to sound like ourselves. We all just really look forward to sharing it with everyone. At the time of this release, the world is still battling the COVID-19 virus in parts of the world and we think it will be a welcome escape from having to worry so much right now. Ottawa’s As We Suffer are releasing their debut album “The Fallen Pillars” on April 30th, 2021. So far, the band has shared with fans two singles, the full-length’s title track and “Invade The Host”.

Today, the band unveils their third single “Concrete Fist”, a rooted groove metal track inspired by the likes of DevilDriver and Lamb of God. This single charges on, bringing the listener into its world of violent reform, heavy from start to finish with a hardcore breakdown and killer solo. Lyrically, this song is about making a stand through violent uprising with the caveat that this kind of solution often comes at the sacrifice of a healthy mind.

As We Suffer‘s debut full length is an amalgamation of several heavy subgenres rolled into one. Hovering between metal-infused punk, hardcore, groove metal, and even a little hard rock, listeners go on a journey through each track. The track listing for the album was picked with diversity in mind. Each song stands out in contrast to the last.

The concept album’s theme revolves around the pillars of truth. Each song deals with destructive concepts and beliefs that we, as a society/people, should not prop up as truths. It is a journey of unhealthy and damaging thoughts/emotions that explore existentialism, politics, religious fanaticism, and truth through different styles of heavy music.

About:
Ottawa, Canada’s As We Suffer started out as a cover band, but quickly delved into writing original material. In the early days they focused on a more metal-infused skate punk vibe with major influence stemming from Pennywise, Strung Out, and NOFX but it very quickly took on a more metal feel. Since 2020, the sound has further morphed into a more metalcore vibe along the lines of early Killswitch Engage and Bullet for my Valentine, while still maintaining a distinct hardcore style.

Four of the original band members have known each other for a long time, with two of the members, vocalist Matt Caldwell and bassist Ryan Caldwell being cousins; together with their long-time friends drummer Chris Nunn and Jason Yocom. The band officially established in 2018 picking a name that represents unity in the existential suffering we all experience. Eventually, they were joined by guitarist Derik Roblin.

The long time comradery between the members enables them to write music organically, trading off who is the primary songwriter for each track. All lyrics are written by M. Caldwell, who aims to tell a story and deliver a message without being too literal or specific, allowing the audience to interpret on their own. Themes are largely infused with existentialism, civil and political unrest.

This organic flow continues to benefit the band when they play, the passionate stage presence is heightened by M. Caldwell’s intensity, R. Caldwell’s slick bass licks, Roblin’s powerful energy, and Nunn’s technical prowess. They bring a unique back-to-basics flavor to each performance, especially through the dynamic nature of each of the band members.

As We Suffer released a demo in 2018 and will follow it up with “The Fallen Pillars” on April 30, 2021.

Escapement is the result of vocalist Johnny Ray (3 Headed Snake) and keyboardist Alex Nasla (Witherfall, Helion Prime) meeting on the famous 70k Metal Cruise and throwing musical ideas off of each other during pandemic boredom.

After a few months of reworking the songs and adding creative touches, they are ready to show off their debut single “Feed” and the music video for it. For the production of the video, Nasla flew to Florida and they shot alongside Loren Whitaker (drums), Chris Massie (guitars), and Brandon Delpino (bass), it was directed by Thomas Crane of Kill Devil Films. It is a slow driving heavy sludgy ballad with haunting vocal melodies, atmospheric keys, technical solos, and huge choruses. Escapement share some details on the conception of the single:

“It was the first song that Nasla and Ray worked on together. It started out small and took many months because of both of their busy schedules, but eventually, it grew, Ray sent the original song to Nasla who wrote keys for it. At that point, Ray had a wild idea to actually have Nasla fly to Florida, and work on a video together with Thomas Crane. It organically came together and was a great success! We believe fans will be refreshed by the heavy riffs, mixed with catchy memorable choruses and amazing solos.”

Escapement is a force of lyrical/vocal prowess, atmospheric yet technical keyboard work, dark and heavy guitars, and banging drums and 2021 will have lots to come from the act. Reality Grey has been making their rounds through the Italian metal scene since 2004, having spent years touring and playing alongside bands such as Deicide and Municipal Waste plus three well-received full-lengths under their belts. This year, they will be adding a new album “Beneath This Crown” to their legacy.

Earlier this April, they dropped their latest single “Powerblast” from the forthcoming record, a very groovy song where the guitars and drums create an immense monolithic wall of sound. And speaking of drums, the band is sharing their playthrough video for the track via its premiere on Sick Drummer Magazine HERE.

Drummer Francesco Inchingolo adds:

“It’s one of my favourite songs to play out of the new album, it is very challenging with the double bass with all those triplets, and implements several different techniques, I need to be very focused when I play it. The drumset I used has a very dynamic sound and the double pedal is very light and easy to use, which is vital to play this song properly.”

Until they can hit the stage again, Reality Grey hopes that “Beneath This Crown” will tide over fans with its aggressive, melodic vocals and razor-sharp guitar solos. According to them, the creative process for this release has been very meticulous and nothing has been left to chance. On this offering, the music has affected the lyrics; there is a lot of anger and a bit of sadness.

Completely aggressive and refreshingly catchy, Reality Grey is recommended for fans of Scar Symmetry, Lamb of God, and Unearth.

Don Dewulf is the creative mind behind The Wring, a musical adventure chock full of proggy riffs, angry lyrics, and a heavy dose of melody. He is releasing a second album this year, “The Wring² Project Cipher” that boasts the work of several seasoned, professional musicians, making this one of the top albums prog fans are going to want this year.

Dewulf is the sole songwriter of the project and he takes up guitar duties, but the album wouldn’t have come together without help from drummer Thomas Lang, vocalist Marc Bonilla, bassist Bryan Beller as well as bassist Jason Henrie who also played on The Wring’s first album. Guitarist Jason Sadites rounds out the line-up, playing a killer solo on one track. This incredible depth of players brings to life an album that has enough proggy stuff for the geeks, but still plenty of melodies and rock riffery for the regular heavy music listener. Says Dewulf:

“I love the complexity and innovation of prog-rock but also the hooks and brevity of great classic rock… The Wring tries to bring you both.”

The first look at this album is the single “Cipher”, the sole instrumental track juxtaposed against the six vocal tracks with lyrical themes full of emotion and aggression. Dewulf explains Cipher further:

“I played this song on a 7-string guitar so there is a massive low end. I think the parts are short enough and musical enough to hold interest without vocals. I really like the bass and guitar solos here too. A combination homage to YYZ and March of the Fire Ants. Jason Henrie played killer bass on this track and created the incredibly cool video for it.”

The Wring is a progressive rock project created in 2015 by guitarist Don Dewulf who had compiled a large inventory of compositions that he had fully demoed, just needing players to turn the demos into songs. The project started out in a band format with local musicians and they released a debut self-titled album in 2017.

After a series of live dates sharing stages with Anvil, Diamond Head, and Dead Daisies, the band dissolved. A chance conversation with Mikael Akerfeldt inspired Dewulf to forge ahead with new material, re-connecting with bassist Jason Henrie and engaging world-renowned musicians to perform, bringing the new songs to another level.

The result of that was “The Wring 2 – Project Cipher” releasing in 2021, which will feature album guests Bryan Beller (Joe Satriani, The Aristocrats, Dethklok, Steve Vai), Thomas Lang (Robert Fripp, Peter Gabriel, Robbie Williams), Jason Henrie, and Jason Sadites.

Always starting with a riff, Dewulf builds compositions that showcase his signature blend of classic heavy rock meets prog. The lyrics come after the music is done and are usually a targeted response to an interaction that has sparked anger. The translation of emotion into words is subtle, often belying the more aggressive undertones. Expect more from Dewulf with The Wring3 already in the recording stage!

What do you get when you combine Jean Claude Van Damme with classic 80’s metal? You get Bloodsport, a heavy metal tribute to the one and only Belgian martial artist/actor. Their first Ep “Kumite Attack” was released in 2018 and the year’s “Lethal Tender” is a cut above with tighter drumming, tighter riffing, better vocals, and A+ production! Fans of true heavy metal are digging right into it!

All Bloodsport lyrics and themes revolve around Jean-Claude Van Damme’s movies in the late 80s and early 90s, specifically focused on his martial arts films. “Lethal Tender” is inspired by Van Damme’s movie Lionheart, for those who haven’t seen it, you’re in for a wild ride! Bloodsport explains the track further:

“We were really wanting to continue with the Bloodsport movie theme because it’s such a hit movie for cult cinema, not to mention it’s Van Damme’s best in terms of action and authenticity! Alas, we decided not to focus too much on one film, as he has close to a dozen good martial arts films from that era, all of them totally awesome in their own way. We feel like our music acts as a second soundtrack to the films! They are completely and respectfully dedicated to the glory of those films.”

Bloodsport prides itself on tons of riffs, complex song structures, and very little repetition; they are highly recommended for fans of early Running Wild, Helloween, and Exciter.
