Newfoundland Black Metal Duo Artach Unleash Music Video “Shimmer” For Release Day Of New Album “Sworn to Avenge”

Music Video Premiere via ThisIsBlackMetal

Album Stream Premiere via Black Metal Artists

New Album “Sworn to Avenge” Out June 25th via Depressive Illusions Records

Coming from the coldest, windiest, snowiest, and foggiest city in Canada, St. John’s, Newfoundland’s Artach is heavily influenced by nature and even takes after the bleak climate they are surrounded by. The result of months of winter provides inspiration for their raw, epic black metal that is in their new album “Sworn to Avenge”, which is now available via Depressive Illusions Records as of June 25th.

As described by Artach, their music is angry, savage, unhinged, but contains melody and some twists and turns to surprise the listener. Varied song tempos mixing blasting with thrashy, punky, doomy elements keep the sounds interesting and not monotone. They go into further detail about releasing their new music video for “Shimmer” for the full length’s release day:

“Lyrically, this one is more descriptive and doesn’t have any hidden meanings. Those shimmering and dancing lights of the Aurora Borealis can be seen even here in Newfoundland, but further north they look magnificent. There’s a spoken part in this one taken from a part of a poem by David Vedder (1790-1854) that was written about the Northern Lights. Musically this one is one of the more black metal sounding songs with lots of blast beats but as always, tempered with melody and hand-banging riffage.”

Watch “Shimmer” via its premiere on This Is Black Metal‘s YouTube channel – https://youtu.be/JyJ2xW2oquM

Along with “Sworn to Avenge” album full stream via Black Metal Artists YouTube Channel – https://youtu.be/0OIPlMtj8hE

“Sworn to Avenge” is the second album from Artach, following up 2020’s “Chronicles of a Black Winter”. Fans can expect more of the same compared to the first, but it pushes the envelope a little bit. Artach embraces evolution and aspire to play tighter, and have a more professional sound, but never sound overly polished.

Artach’s process is a collaborative one between the duo, the genesis of the songs are arranged on guitar by Sruthán and very roughly recorded at home. After getting together, they record drums and flesh out the song in an afternoon and by then the song is pretty much ready for the studio recording of guitars, then bass, and lastly vocals.

Artach is recommended listening for anyone interested in raw black metal and those with an interest in Celtic Frost, Darkthrone, and Satyricon.

“Sworn to Avenge” is available via Depressive Illusions at the following links: DepressiveIllusions.com, Artach.bandcamp.com, Amazon, Spotify.

About:
Artach is a two-man black metal band (Sruthán: Guitar/Bass, Fíochmhar: Battery/Vokills/Keys)based in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. Being from the foggiest, snowiest, wettest, windiest, and gloomiest capital city in Canada, one should not be surprised that this fuels the creation of Black Metal. Their inspiration comes from the land, nature, the bleak weather of the Canadian North, and influential black metal bands.

Since the duo’s formation in the spring of 2019, Artach has been consistently releasing new music. The band’s debut album “Chronicles of a Black Winter” was released digitally during February 2020 and later unleashed on physical CD by Depressive Illusions Records. The full length contained 9 songs of extreme, harsh, and haunting sounds, which included a cover of Celtic Frost’s ‘Jewel Throne’.

Now in 2021, the band returns with their next offering “Sworn To Avenge”, a full-length scourge of raw and relentless bruting gloom. From the calming blasts and savagery of album opener “Tuiteam an Duine” to the ingrained black metal blast beats, and headbanging riffage on “Shimmer” to the 20-minute exploration for the epic “Endless Tundra” about the doomed Franklin expedition of 1846 to the Immortal-esque riffing and unorthodox exorcism of album closer “Winter’s End”, Artach delivers a 65-minute cold deliverance of their surroundings.

The band adds:

“The music on ‘Sworn To Avenge’ is a frigid mixture of topics about nature and how it meets and interacts with the darkness of humankind. The desolation of the world, the planet, and the repeated failure of society to evolve to a place where we are a part of nature and not brutish subjugators of everything in our path… these are all themes described throughout many songs. The music is angry, savage, unhinged, but contains melody and some twists and turns to surprise the listener. Varied song tempos mixing blasting with thrashy, punky, doomy elements keep the sounds interesting and not monotone. Song structures often vary and we never limit a song to a certain length. We indulge and have them be as long, or as short as we think feels right.”

“Sworn To Avenge” will be available digitally from Artach along with CD and cassette via Depressive Illusions Records on June 2021.

“The album is definitely black metal – but there are some really nice elements in that that makes this author think the musicians are truly having some fun. In particular, ‘Frozen In Time’, exhibits this by delivering several rhythmic textures and a variety of guitar techniques. The vocals are also just well placed in this track in both timing and style.” – Brutalism (Album Review – 2020 Chronicles of a Black Winter)

“Artach have overnight become one of the most interesting bands to come out of the Newfoundland metal scene in some time, not only for the Darkthrone-esque duality of their lineup, but for their genuine appreciation for all things grim and frostbitten and their unique flavour of first wave meets second wave black metal. If you’ve not given Chronicles of a Black Winter a listen yet, give it a spin or two. It’s definitely worth checking out.” – HeavyNFLD (Album Review – 2020 Chronicles of a Black Winter)

“Artach is a mysterious two-piece Black Metal band who have issued their debut CHRONICLES OF A BLACK WINTER. Artach have spawned some fierce raw and primeval Black Metal. I’m hearing lots of classic Hellhammer/Bathory/Venom and maybe even dipping into second wave stuff like Immortal. It is all very black and grim the way this type of stuff should be.” – Metal-Rules (Album Review – 2020 Chronicles of a Black Winter)

“Like the album’s title may suggest, this album’s atmosphere is as cold and bleak as the North winds.  The album is very riff focused with modern production, but it isn’t too clean—I actually really enjoyed the production. Vocally, it is very unique and [not] just the same ol endless blackened screams.” – Metal Temple (Album Review – 2020 Chronicles of a Black Winter)

“A solid dose of second wave black metal.” – Astral Noize (Album Review – 2020 Chronicles of a Black Winter)

“This is an album that took a little time to grow on me and after more listens than I care to count, I still hear little twists that I hadn’t heard before. Pretty cool debut from a band that’s doing its own thing in a genre where bands are often content to imitate.” Rating: ⅘ – The Metal Crypt (Album Review – 2020 Chronicles of a Black Winter)

Canadian progressive metalcore outfit Maitreya’s new album “Hyper Reels” is now out as of June 25th. Since January of this year, the band has been sharing singles with music videos to promote the sophomore full length and today they are excited to reveal its full stream and download on Bandcamp, Spotify and Apple Music at the following link: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/maitreya1/hyper-reels

Boasting a higher degree of musical complexity, filthy breakdowns and a wider range on the vocals ebbing from melodic cleans into sustained growls set to a whirlwind of complicated riffs. The record is a heavily layered listening experience, a cacophony of styles, merging together to create an intense wall of sound that forces you to pay attention to all the subliminal notes and tempo changes.

The band comments:

“Hyper Reels is an honest expression and discovery of what Maitreya is all about. We lived with these songs for years, honing them on stage and in the studio. This album details our evolution as a band, remaining true to our metalcore roots and highlighting a trajectory not confined to any particular subgenre. In the process of making this album, we put everything under the microscope and as a result, every element is more refined and matured. Our intention with this record was to craft songs with strong conceptual meanings paired with a musical complexity that remains catchy. We are very proud of this album, and are excited to keep writing, recording, and performing music as long as we are able!”

“Hyper Reels” is recommended for fans of The Contortionist, Between the Buried and Me, and Protest the Hero.

“We’re always on the hunt for interesting new metal bands, and Canada’s Maitreya certainly qualifies. The band’s newest single, “Catalyst”, treads familiar progressive metal territory – think vocals similar to Leprous and instrumentation akin to older BTBAM – but rest assured it sounds fresh.” – New Fury Media
“Heavy metallers Maitreya recognize the value of dreams with their new single and music video for “Bloom,” a rifftastic blast of progressive metal.” – V13
“What’s on the menu here is a wide range of flavours. There’s something to suit the taste of any serious metal fan. This relatively new band has some good ideas and knows how to execute them. Despite the current restrictions, these guys have plenty of time to bring the Maitreya brand to the fore.” – The Prog Space

“Ambitious and aggressive, Canada’s Maitreya break boundaries from the beginning with Departed. Heavy, contemporary metal chords are underscored by droning, chorusing vocals, but blink and you’ll miss them as Maitreya soon change direction to a growling verse pandemonium. Their riffing is adventurous and deadly, cutting through weighty, rolling rhythms and movements.” – Jace Media

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – June 25, 2021

For fans of Katatonia, Helloween, Amorphis, Anthema

Rockshots Records: Out Now! Endless Chain’s Debut Album “Forthcoming Past” + New Lyric Video

Debut Album “Forthcoming Past” Out June 25, 2021
ft. guests Mikko Heikkilä (Kaunis Kuolematon, Dawn Of Solace, Black Aeon Sun),
Ville Hovi (Blackstar Halo), Aki Salonen (Nemecic), Sami Yli-Sirniö (Kreator, Waltari),
Antti Kolehmainen, (Waltari), Samuli Mikkonen (Korpiklaani)

Finnish songwriter Timo Mölsä’s studio project Endless Chain‘s debut album “Forthcoming Past” is out now as of June 25th via Rockshots Records.

For the full-length’s release day, Endless Chain is sharing their latest video for the title track that features guest vocals from Ville Hovi (Blackstar Halo) and Aki Salonen (Nemecic) along with the opening speech by John Egerton. Drums by Korpiklaani’s Samuli Mikkonen with album producer Aleksanteri Kuosa on guitar, bass and keyboards.

Lyric Video – https://youtu.be/-6hNd3KVFl4

Mölsä comments on the album’s release:

“My project, which lasted about a year, is now coming to an end. The last good couple of years have been full of music and I have to say that ‘what a journey this has been’. February 2020 – after the pre-production – the recording was started and finalized (after many phases) in November 2020. The recording and mixing by Aleksanteri Kuosa and mastering by Juho Räihä. Thanks guys and BIG thank you to everyone who made this album possible.

What else can I say? I have invested a lot of time and practically all the usable energy to this album and to the whole project. But, it has been worth it – and I believe you can hear it! While the album is musically varied, it remains focused and tight. And it’s still very clearly a metal album. I can now proudly present the results. A big “Thank you!” goes to Rockshots Records for believing and releasing my music. Let the music speak for itself!”

“Forthcoming Past” features guests Mikko Heikkilä (Kaunis Kuolematon, Dawn Of Solace, Black Aeon Sun), Ville Hovi (Blackstar Halo), Aki Salonen (Nemecic), Sami Yli-Sirniö (Kreator, Waltari), Antti Kolehmainen, (Waltari), and Samuli Mikkonen (Korpiklaani). The full length was recorded, mixed, and produced by Aleksanteri Kuosa (Before the Dawn, Wolfheart, Waltari) along with mastering done by Juho Räihä (guitarist of Swallow the Sun).

A late bloomer to being a musician, Endless Chain‘s Timo Mölsä had his musical awakening in 2016, however, he has been listening and influenced by various genres of metal music for over 30 years. It took re-introducing himself to guitar with long-time friend Ari Hokkanen as a fun pastime that drove Mölsä to create his own songs. What would soon follow is a new project with contributions from Hokkanen for writing and lyrics.

Soon after, Mölsä shared his demos with drummer Samuli Mikkonen (Korpiklaani), who, after listening, joined the project and performed all the drums on the debut record.

Step by step things fell into place, through Mikkonen, Mölsä became acquainted with producer Aleksanteri Kuosa who had a big impact on the completion of the debut album.

“Aleksanteri is an imaginative producer and he was also very patient with a perfectionist like me. He knew how to weed out extra notes from my compositions and finally got the most out of my songs. There were maybe a total of 20 songs in the beginning, of which we went through less than 15 in the preliminary production. Finally, 10 songs had been selected for the album. Through Aleksanteri, I also got many other great musicians involved in the project.”

The end result is Mölsä‘s dark and melancholic sound premiered through Endless Chain‘s first offering “Forthcoming Past”.

As true heathens, folk/black metal act Hexenklad(ft. members of SIG:AR:TYR, Eclipse Eternal, Pagan Ritual) summon interconnected energies in their new music video for the first single and title track off their upcoming album “Heathenheart”, which can be viewed via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

Releasing around the summer solstice, the time of year that draws people together to celebrate the longest day of the year, the band brings a message that you are not alone, which is also fitting with the global crisis of the past year. The band explains the track further:

“’Heathenheart’ is a folk metal anthem. As soon as it started to come together, we knew this had to be the single we released first. It is just so memorable and so poignant and relevant to the times we are all going through. It is a song about being alone, yet all connected. All lone wolves yet all part of a larger pack. About protecting and raising each other up. The song feels like its message. It is uplifting, powerful, memorable, anthemic.”

According to the band, they didn’t go into the writing process for this album with any intention to create a specific sonic experience. It is more an amalgamation of all the varied influences of its members and they didn’t want to constrain where the music took them. Each song on the album has a different meaning, a different feel, a different purpose. Each song should elicit a different response from the listener and make them think. The common thread that binds all these songs together is that they are all intense musically, even the slower songs, and feature heathen lyrics, most of which are very uplifting in meaning, even the darkest of them.

As a whole “Heathenheart” is an intense black metal-influenced folk metal album full of heathen anthems to raise a horn to. The heathen’s heart is full of chaos, creation through destruction, Hagalaz, and this is a journey into it.

“Heathenheart” is recommended for fans of Amon Amarth, Ensiferum, and Insomnium and will be released on July 23, 2021 via CDN Records.

0 Take A Rock N Roll Walk Through Japan With The Title Track From Rebel Priest’s “Lost In Tokyo”

  • June 23, 2021

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – June 23, 2021

For fans of Motörhead, ZZ Top, Rose Tattoo, Deep Purple, LA Guns

Take A Rock N Roll Walk Through Japan With The Title Track From Rebel Priest’s “Lost In Tokyo”

New EP “Lost In Tokyo” Out August 13th via Batcave Records

L-R – Jayme Black – Vocals/Bass, Nate Pole – Drums/Vocals, Benny Kemp – Guitars/Vocals

Vancouver’s Rebel Priest is well known in Western Canada for pumping out solid rock n roll tracks and putting on a deadly, old-school stage show. They have three full-length albums to date and to make sure people haven’t forgotten about them, have a four-track EP coming out this summer, “Lost In Tokyo”.

The first single off the EP is the title track; it’s a story about their first couple of nights in the Shinjuku district of Tokyo, Japan, which is famed for its entertainment including buzzing clubs and neon-lit karaoke bars. Consider this song your drunken guide to bars and places that the band has fond memories of. They explain further:

“This is your own personal guide to downtown Tokyo. This song will take you on a ride through Shinjuku on your way to Golden Gai, waking up in Shimokitazawa then taking the train to Shibuya and hanging with the strangers in Harajuku. This is based on a true story, though piecing the story together is a bit sloppy because it was over a few days. This is our love song to our favourite city in the world.”

Not only did Japan leave its mark on the band, but the boys left theirs as well. Every place mentioned in ”Lost In Tokyo” is an actual place that has Rebel Priest stuff on the walls, this was due to drummer Nate Pole and roadie Jerry “Pred S. Thompson” leaving the hotel the first night without any translator or ideas where they were going. To this day they don’t know how they got back or how people knew them in bars they had never been to.

The grease-infused Trash N’ Roll signature sound is recommended for fans of Motörhead, ZZ Top, and Rose Tattoo.

The single “Lost In Tokyo” can be heard at the following link:

2. Back Alley Blues (3:03)

About:
Rebel Priest is a no-nonsense, real-deal rock n’ roll band composed of three seasoned musicians who have been making their way through the Western Canadian rock n roll scene for years. Vocalist/bassist Jayme Black (Lust Boys, The Toxiks); guitarist/vocalist Benny Kemp (Lust Boys, Road Rash); and drummer/vocalist Nate Pole (Kill Matilda, The Toxiks) bring nothing but unadulterated, high energy grease infused Trash N’ Roll!

The band has had the pleasure of touring Japan, and performing alongside bands such as Udo (Accept), Lordi, Diamond Head, Crystal Pistol, Flotsam, and Jetsam along with playing many headlining gigs with the energy of Motorhead meets Motley Crue.
Since forming in 2014, the band has released three studio albums “R’ley Heavy” (2019), Enabler (2017 ), Self-Titled (2015) along with one live record “Dead Alive @ SBC (2017).

Now in 2021, they offering up a slab of new music in the shape of an EP “Lost In Tokyo”, which was written in Japan at the very end of 2019, before the closure, and the band has been sitting on the tracks for over a year. The band even shares a cover rendition of Toronto 80s metal band Slash Puppets’ “When The Whip Comes Down”.

“We had a batch of headbangers and a few didn’t make it, but sometimes songs just need other means to come out. We wanted to set the tone for each one on this EP as opposed to a full-length concept album. Each one is a juggernaut on their own and will stand strong without having to be bound to the others… and as for more music … oh Lemmy tell ya! We aren’t slowing down, we are gonna have stuff coming at ya throughout the rest of the year, LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN!” adds Jayme Black (vocals/bassist).

Recommended for fans of Guns n’ Roses, AC/DC and Motley Crue, Rebel Priest’s new EP “Lost In Tokyo” will be available on August 13th, 2021 via Batcave Records.

Knecht is the solo project of New Jersey’s Joseph Knecht who has been playing music since he was a small child. He is gearing up to release his debut self-titled EP this summer and has the next single “Destruction”.

Citing that he “has never been the best at writing lyrics”, Knecht takes a purely instrumental stance with his music. He continues to explain:

“I write my guitar melodies like vocal melodies. I think to myself how I would want someone to sing over this part. When I wrote Destruction, I knew this was going to be the finale. It captures everything about my style, with elements from 70s and modern prog rock. It’s based around B Lydian dominant, which gives it a really interesting sound harmonically. It’s upbeat and has a bouncing quality, it is my favorite song on the EP.”

“Knecht” will be available on all digital platforms on July 16, 2021.

About:
Joseph Knecht, from Tabernacle, New Jersey, USA, has been playing music since he was a small child. He started out with piano when he was five and picked up the guitar a year later. Bass came along in high school and he attended Berklee College of Music to further his music education.

Looking to share the music he was writing and playing, he created his instrumental solo project Knecht, where he plays everything from classic rock to more modern progressive metal. He performs originals and covers as well as teaches private guitar lessons.

With influences rooted mainly in progressive and groove metal, he replaces vocals with sweeping, complex guitar melodies that are written like vocal melodies. A typical song starts with the rhythm, for him the rhythm guitars by themselves should be interesting and be able to garner attention through the piece. While he is doing this, he is thinking about what he might want the other instruments to be doing as well as keyboard sounds if there will be keyboards. For the drums, he will program a track for writing and recording purposes, but ultimately leaves it wide open for Jason Stewart.

Knecht’s debut self-titled EP is available on July 16, 2021. It features Jason Stewart on drums and was mixed and mastered by Charles-Henry Volk.

Finland’s BLOODY HELL‘s new album “The Bloodening” hit the mosh pit this past April via Rockshots Records. In support of the record, the band is presenting a new music video for the banger “Midnight Man”. The track tells a story of a man with issues (which any one person can relate to). This was originally one of the first songs the band wrote and it’s simply a straight-up speedster of headbanging glory.

Watch “Midnight Man” via Rockshots Records YouTube channel  – https://youtu.be/S3YlVEIKT4Q

Formed to cause confusion and fear in people who don’t understand what heavy metal is about, Helsinki, Finland’s BLOODY HELL (ft. members of Moottörin Jyrinä, Metal De Facto) have been wowing fans around the globe with their loud, unapologetic, speed demon tyranny for two decades. Known for their drunken wild shows, the band has always presented good times in the circle pit with anthems about drinking, hangovers, devil-worshipping among other important matters.

Taking a hiatus after releasing two EPs, Hangover Riders (2010), What The Hell (2003) and a self-titled album (2015), along with all members focusing to perform with their other project Moottörin Jyrinä (a children’s heavy metal band that plays cover songs from classic 1980s heavy metal songs with child-friendly Finnish language lyrics with an educational tone), the quartet returns in 2021 to continue the party as grumpy old men with strong 18-year-old angst. Their new album “The Bloodening” features 12 fist-pumping songs to kick the band’s new found momentum into overdrive.

For fans of old-school 80’s metal in the vein of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Accept, and Helloween, Bloody Hell‘s “The Bloodening” is available at the following links:

“Bloody Hell plays classic, keep-it-true, heavy metal… Most of their tunes are riff revved up, fast and heavy, metal tunes with assertive, yet harmonious, vocals, and an abundance of killer guitar solos. Listeners will hear this formula self-evident and repeated throughout the album with notable songs: The Undertaker, What The Hell, Bite, the drum driven fast and heavy Burn Witch Burn. 4/5” – Dangerdog Music Reviews

“Clearly having a blast, Bloody Hell want you to have a blast as well and to help make that a reality, they’re dropping a 12-track album of good time heavy head-bangers. Classic heavy metal with thrash and speed sensibilities, The Bloodening is an album filled with energy, dirty groove and thumping heaviness.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“For everyone who loves good old classic heavy metal, the new record by BLOODY HELL is perfect.” – Metal.de

“BLOODY HELL are sure to ensure a good time for the pandemic-isolated Metaler” – Stormbringer

“The Bloodening is definitely something perfect to blast, whether the pandemic is ruling everyone’s life or not. It is also a great excuse to enjoy some rum or bourbon when it cannot be done in a company – because drinking to Metal, even by oneself, is not drinking, it is keeping oneself alive.” – Metal Express Radio

“Bloody Hell have struck a solid formula for the creation and delivery of their brand of heavy metal. Keeping it simple in terms of sonic display and lyrical content. Incorporating themes and techniques of their influences while ensuring their own stamp is prominent… it does put a massive grin on your face. When all is said and done, isn’t that the point of metal.” – Uber Rock

“Twelve songs in this new album opened by anthemic groovy metal of HANGOVER RIDER, enriched by an embracing riffing, and FACE IN HELL, with its metallized heavy rock.” – Hard Rock Heavy Metal

0 Thrash La Reine Releases Cover Of Traditional French Canadian Singalong “Au Chant de l’Alouette”

  • June 22, 2021

  • · Music News · Thrash La Reine

NEWS RELEASE
(Version Française Ci-Dessous)

Montreal, QC – June 22, 2021

For fans of Alestorm, Powerwolf, Ghost, King Diamond, Anonymus

Thrash La Reine Releases Cover Of Traditional French Canadian Singalong “Au Chant de l’Alouette”

Montreal, Canada’s Thrash La Reine, is coming at you hard and fast in their usual manner, but they take a hard turn into folk metal territory with their forthcoming album “Notre-Dame-de-l’Enfer”, which will be a compendium of French Canadian/ Quebec folk tales. The first single off this album is “Au Chant de L’Alouette”, a cover of a traditional French Canadian song. The band explains the track:

“A lot of people already know the lyrics of this song as it is often sung in family reunions or at night around campfires. For people who do not know about it, this type of song is a ‘’chanson à répondre’ (answering song)’ which means that the lead singer sings the first line of the verse, then the other singers or crowd answer by singing the same line. It is often sung during parties and gatherings. We wanted to give the song a modern edge, so we changed the melodies a bit and added a lot of gang vocals to throw the party in!”

Another key element found in Quebecois music is present in the bridge, one voice sings the same note while the lead voice sings a melody. The subtlety adds to the immersion that Thrash La Reine prides itself on, all of their lyrics are in French while still remaining accessible for people not fluent in the language.

This upcoming album will be the third release from the band, following “La Foi, La Loi, La Croix” (2019) and “Le Métal Est Notre Langue” (2018). It is the band’s attempt to make a metal opera about French Canadian stories, which will shine some light on French folklore presented in an energetic and catchy fashion. Thrash La Reine is recommended for fans of Alestorm, Powerwolf, and King Diamond.

To ensure everyone has a cool song to party to during the French Canadian national holiday and for the summer, “Au Chant de L’Alouette” will be available on St-Jean-Baptiste (Fête Nationale du Québec), June 24, 2021 and the entire album will be released in autumn of this year.

================================================

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – June 22, 2021

CDN Records To Reissue The Blood of Christ 1990s Demos on Cassette and CD

Death metallers The Blood of Christ brutalized their way onto the Canadian scene in the mid-1990s. Even with various line-up changes, mainly vocalists, the band has been a consistent tour de force, supporting bands such as Cryptopsy, Incantation, Morbid Angel, Kataklysm, Necronomicon, Killitorous and many more local and international acts.

Two of their earlier demos were 1994’s “Frozen Dreams” and 1995’s “The Lonely Flowers Of Autumn”, which were both highly praised on the underground cassette trading circuit.

Teaming up with Canadian extreme metal label CDN Records, The Blood of Christ announces for old and new fans that they will be reissuing both “Frozen Dreams” and “The Lonely Flowers Of Autumn” along with a CD edition, which will feature bonus tracks from 1996’s Torture Records 7″ single. Both are remixed along with remastering done by Dan Swano (Incantation, Jungle Rot, Asphyx) and are expected for release this coming July 2021.

The band comments:

“This was the beginning of our natural journey that began rooted in straight-up death-grind metal around 1995 with added dark elements from black metal and doom. These songs became epic with varied time signatures and tempo changes, often shifting from chugging death metal riffs to droning black metal riffs in the blink of an eye – and incorporated more vocal styles than the average death metal band would. We have always called it Epic Dark Metal since our inception in 1995 with our “the Lonely Flowers of Autumn” demo… and that has stuck with us.”

In lead up to the release of the reissues for “Frozen Dreams” and “The Lonely Flowers Of Autumn”, The Blood of Christ are also sharing their lyric video for the track “In The Distance”. It was a song written by the band while heavily influenced by the Kataklysm “Sorcery” album. It’s a lengthy, heavy and unique grinder that is dedicated to a story of a vampire who can not love a human woman due to his wretched existence and immortality. This song acts as a soundtrack to human suffering, told from both the band’s and the fictional vampire’s point of view.

About:
Canadian Epic Dark Metal band The Blood of Christ (aka Blood of Christ) began their career in the early ’90s, making a blackened death metal hybrid that sounded similar to a mashup of Carcass and Enslaved. They kept this style throughout their first two albums, but started to tweak it on their third full-length album, 2003’s “Breeding Chaos”. The Blood of Christ’s brooding, unique and crushing sound has made fans out of underground metal lovers from many genres, creating an appeal that defies genre borders.

On their second release through CDN Records, the London trio has crafted their most focused and creative effort yet with 7 numbers of Epic Dark Metal dexterity and power. Fiends whom were raised on the sheer brutality and boundary-smashing efforts of Morbid Angel, or the pioneering and challenging progressive grind-core of Liverpudlian innovators Carcass, the epic and majestic sounds of Viking artisans Enslaved or even the groove-laden proto-death of Brazilian legends Sepultura will find something rousing and engulfing within The Blood of Christ. All of these influences and components meet head-on and shatter the boundaries of conventional arrangements and ultimately take the listener away to territory similarly explored by none before.

While their influences favored the shocking approach with lyrical themes that were rampant with Gore, Satanism and often-abhorrent imagery, The Blood of Christ chose to focus on more abstract and poetic subject matter. Their songs are often rife with human suffering, lust and longing, time travel, astrology, historic battles and the human struggle for personal freedom. A sincerely dark and often poetic way of not being afraid to expose the innards of human suffering, and relate to the misery from the destructive, self-promotion of humanity with unique vocals that sound as if purveyed by a raging beast – all of which is set to a brutal and epic soundtrack.

The Blood of Christ was formed in London, Ontario, in 1994, their lineup composed of avid metal scenesters: guitarist Jeff Longo, bassist Marek Kopala, drummer Jason Longo and vocalist Jason Deaville. Musically, at that time they were closest to Cannibal Corpse, although other metal bands like Morbid Angel, Samael, Kataklysm and Carcass played a role in their sound.

A 1995 demo (that saw a shift in style to what is now their own blend of death and black metal) helped the band secure a deal with Pulverizer Records, which released their debut album, “…a Dream to Remember” in 1997. A strong underground following began to build behind the group with albums like 1997’s “…a Dream to Remember” and 2002’s “As the Rain Gently falls”. Vocalist Conan Bulani, who joined the group in time to appear on the band’s debut album, sadly passed away in 2011. The Blood of Christ is now fronted by Ontario underground-metal veteran Hank Bielanski on bass & vocals.

The release of “Eastern Beast – Western Wolf”, a split CD & Cassette with Japanese hyper-groove masters Vomit Remnants on CDN Records in late 2020 will see the debut of Hank’s beastly craft with The Blood of Christ. The Blood of Christ is the embodiment of an Epic Dark Metal craft that in it of itself is limitless with possibility.

“Anthology IV shows that they deserve to be respected as one of Canada’s better death metal exports” – Exclaim!

“…Canadian brutal death metal legends Blood Of Christ are a band who helped to define the sound known as Northern Hyperblast…” – Metal Injection

“Able to bring about varied atmospheres and textures into an otherwise assaulting formula, Blood of Christ seem on top of their game…” – Dead Rhetoric

“…an album, incredibly heavy with some really delectable rhythm, Unrelenting Declivity of Anguish is 7 tracks of ferocious noise…” – Games, Brains and Headbanging Life

0 Vancouver’s CRNKSHFT New Music Video “Innocence”

  • June 21, 2021

  • · CRNKSHFT · Music News

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – June 21, 2021

For fans of 5FDP, Breaking Benjamin, Bad Wolves, Alter Bridge, Stone Sour

Vancouver’s CRNKSHFT New Music Video “Innocence”

L-R – Geoff Way – Guitar, Andrew Wishart – Drums, Shane Jolie – Vocals, Eric Jolicoeur – Bass

Vancouver’s CRNKSHFT have a new single out, the punchy, invigorating “Innocence”, mixed and mastered by Kane Churko (Papa Roach, Five Finger Death Punch). This track is the first in a series of singles that they are releasing in an attempt to gain radio traction before committing to a full-length record.

Lyrically, the song itself taps into the idea that in a world of cancel culture, no one is truly innocent and harps on this fact by asking people, “Are we all so innocent?”. Musically, the band tells fans to expect “devastation”. They continue to explain:

“Turn everything you loved about us up to 10. We have changed through the years, but the core of our style will always be the same; we write with dark topics and heavy guttural crunch, and tempo shifts. Fans that have been with us for awhile can hear the changes, but it always has that CRNKSHFT vibe.

We like to also thank Ryan Van Poederooyen (DTP, Imonolith) for laying down the epic drum track for our new single! When our drummer at the time left right before we wanted to start recording Innocence, we were in an obvious bind. Luckily, he left us with a decent demo track for the single and as it turns out we had another stroke of luck with Ryan ready to go at The Armoury Studios in Vancouver.”

The single is prime radio rock, hard enough to satisfy headbangers and catchy enough to be a listener’s first foray into the heavier side of music. Listeners can expect passionate emotional swings, combined with an explosion of energy.

The band recently released a music video for “Innocence”, which can be viewed at https://youtu.be/zMbFCw3Ic3k

Looking to start a band that flowed between genres and refused to be pigeonholed, CRNKSHFT released their first EP “Heavy F***ing Rock” in 2012, which was followed by a self-titled EP in 2016. This new single is the first release since then, but there will be more to come. When CRNKSHFT returns to the stage, fans can expect “Face Melting Hard F*ing Rock”.

CRNKSHFT is recommended for fans of Five Finger Death Punch, Breaking Benjamin, and Bad Wolves.

About:
CRNKSHFT is an explosive band composed of five musicians from Vancouver, Canada. The band is setting the scene ablaze with its explosive, drop tune aggression with melody at its core.

Influenced by bands like Alice In Chains, Pantera, Metallica, Nirvana and Godsmack, CRNKSHFT have carved out a sound in the vein of Five Finger Death Punch, Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin, and Alexisonfire, that gives them a refreshing sound that’s forges these genres together. Their riffs are designed to get your blood pulsing, their dynamics get your fist-pumping, and the melody keeps you singing along.

Since the band’s formation in 2015, CRNKSHFT’s engine has been firing on all cylinders with their debut EP ‘Hard F***ing Rock’ released in 2015 plus being tapped as local support for such touring bands as Prong, Grim Reaper, Lordi and The Veer Union. The wrecking crew then unleashed their self-titled EP in August 2017 produced by Darren Grahn (Metallica, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi) which allowed the formation to embark on a Tour that took the 5 members from Vancouver to Montreal.

CRNKSHFT has been Nominated for Break Out West – Hard Rock Band of the year 2018, and then started working on new material, which lead to the recording process of the new single Innocence, which was mixed and mastered by Kane Churko.

“For an EP this has four very powerful tracks attached to it and demands your attention; Do yourself a favour and listen!” – Ram Zine

“Their sound gets the feet tapping, the head banging and it is easy to sing along to the choruses.” – Sentinel Daily

“these guys have a running start to the hard rock scene, and if their message and sound stays in their current vein, there’s no denying that this band will put a crankshaft kick-start to this year’s list of burgeoning, fantastic new artists” – Shockwave Mag

“The four track offering is an imposing roar of hungry and varied metal but equally shows a blaze of hard and melodic rock n’ roll, a trait even more compelling in the successor to their previous well-received debut EP helping stir up a very healthy appetite for the band’s fierce and rousing attack.” – The RingMaster Review

“the four tracks are full of grunge influences and a killer metal delirium that will capture your heart ,and ignite your mind. “Systematic” kicks the release off in fine style ,with its bludgeoning , punishing riffs its easy to see why this was the band’s first single, the lead guitars strings are flayed as the guys will have you banging your head and bouncing around the room this is a stylistic killer opener.” – The Metal Meltdown

“Though the album is short, I found myself repeating it numerous times and jamming out each time. I highly recommend it if you’re a fan of punk, metal, hardcore or any heavy genre. There is a bit for everyone in it. I guarantee you will be screaming, drumming and playing your air guitar to it. The guys are not going to be stopping anytime soon.” – Canadian Beats

“Wow wow WOW!!!!!!!This is amazing!!!! What a great track! It just ripped my face off! – Sylvia Massy (producer for Tool, System Of A Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers)

“I have always said I wish I had “one of those tracks” under my belt. You know, the track that you could play for really anybody; a kid, a peer, a heavy musician, a producer, someone whom you’d like to impress for whatever reason, anybody… that is the track for me. Great writing, tons of energy, unapologetic, dynamics, intent, world class production, all parts are so strong, title and guitar hook so memorable.” – Tony Ferraro (drummer for Trooper, Fear Zero,) about the Single “Systematic”

“Great band ! Sounds pretty heavy. Intro riff is killer” – Cory Churko (guitar player for kelly Clarkson, Shania Twain) about the Single “Systematic”

“You Guys are the first real band I have seen in three years, when you came on stage I was like, F*** ya, you guys are a band”… When I approach a label they ask me ‘are these guys stars?’,  I’m going to tell them these guys are stars.”
– Tommy Mac (Bass Player for Hedley/BigFatScratch/Flybanger/Everything After)
