Straight out of the heart of Canada’s metal scene, these Montreal metallers constantly shift their compositions with seamless transitions and theatrical interludes to keep audiences on their toes.
Since 2014, Simon Lavoie (vocals), Ludovick Daoust (keyboard), Vincent Bruneau (guitar), Tommy Fradette (bass) and Steven Cope (drums) have been committed to a constant evolution; the powerful quintet is just as versatile in their music as they are in their musical interests, darting between djent and classic rock whilst anchoring on a power and death metalcore.
Their debut album ‘The Human Paradox’ was released in September of 2016, with the follow-up EP ‘Prelude To An Impending Outcome’ slated to be revealed in November of 2018. If reception to the previous album is any indication of the talents of Fractal Cypher, this next release is sure to be a masterwork.

Straight out of the heart of Canada’s metal scene, these Montreal metallers constantly shift their compositions with seamless transitions and theatrical interludes to keep audiences on their toes.
Since 2014, ex-Far From Reality members Simon Lavoie (vocals), Ludovick Daoust (keyboard), and Vincent Bruneau (guitar) have dedicated themselves to Fractal Cypher and with the addition of Tommy Fradette on bass and Steven Cope on drums, they are set to bring their message to the metal world.
Quoted as calling their music puzzling, the band follows a theme that starts with their band name, Bruneau elaborates: “Fractal is a term employed most of the time to describe a geometric shape or a design. It’s a geometric form or object that constantly evolves from its initial shape. Cypher means a secret method of writing to transmit a message or a code. We thought it would be cool to put the two concepts together, which means a repeating secret code that constantly evolves on itself, so it’s finally a message that can never be found.”
Committed to a constant evolution, the powerful quintet is just as versatile in their music as they are in their musical interests, darting between djent and classic rock whilst anchoring on a power and death metalcore. Each song acts of its own volition almost taking control of the members and shaping a personality and energy, not unlike a living entity. Ludovick is at the helm of songwriting; calculating and unlocking each melody before Lavoie becomes the voice for each piece.
Their debut album ‘The Human Paradox’ produced by Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy, The Agonist, Beyond Creation, Neuraxis) was released in September of 2016, with the follow up EP ‘Prelude To An Impending Outcome’ (also produced by Donaldson) slated to be revealed in November of 2018. “Still Life With Maggots” is the first single from the upcoming full length album “Goodbye Audio” from Montreal, Canada’s THE GREAT SABATINI. The single is recorded live off the floor and shows the growth the band has made together over the past 11 years. This album is the eighth addition to the band’s repertoire and they are looking to show off a new side to their fans:
“We’re trying to give people a raw-ass document of abrasive sludge and noise rock in the most hi-fi package possible. We’re not interested in polish or smoothing over any rough edges… just achieving something of high sonic quality that presents the band that we are today…”
Following the theme of mortality persistent through the album, “Still Life With Maggots” is about existential dread and the general feeling of anxiety some people experience daily. Taking a more lighter path than in previous years, THE GREAT SABATINI is less focused on complicating their parts and set on being direct along with working together and highlighting each other’s strengths. Not wanting to emulate any bands they do point to some band favourites like Botch, Melvins and Neurosis as inspiration to consider different elements like new time signatures and feels.

Since forming in Montreal, Canada in late 2007, The Great Sabatini has released four EP’s and four full length albums, and logged seemingly endless tour dates around North America and Europe. The music is an aggressive mixture of noise rock, doom, hardcore, and metal wrapped up in a burly sludge aesthetic.
The intrepid Sabatini’s; Sean (guitar/vocals), Joey (bass/vocals), Rob (guitar/vocals), and Steve (drums/vocals) got together with the intention of pursuing their musical dreams with similar goals: slow it down, tune it down, turn it up, keep screaming. With all four of them belting out the lyrics, they play loud, and with conviction.
The raw sound compliments the persistent theme of mortality that the new album centers on, with Sean concocted most of the lyrics for, but with heavy input from his band mates. Going forward, The Great Sabatini is less focused on complicating their parts and set on being direct along with working together and highlighting each other’s strengths.

New Album “Exomancer” Out October 17th
HAIDUK, the Calgary, AB one man thrashing black and death metal project fronted by Luka Milojica is now streaming the first single “Blood Ripple”off his upcoming album “Exomancer” due out on October 17th. This will be his third full length to follow his 2015 concept album “Demonicon” where each song pertained to the nine demons on the release’s front cover. Clocking at around thirty minutes, “Exomancer” was recorded and mixed by Luka Milojica. Three years in the making, the album is heavy on dual-guitar interplay and is another concept release based on a sorcerer who harnesses cosmic forces to raise the dead and see the future. Artwork was done by Caelan Stokkermans.

Atlas : Empire are a progressive alternative rock band, based in Glasgow, UK. Since forming in 2011, Atlas : Empire have enjoyed success both through their recordings and over several tours crossing the UK, the EU and Eastern Canada, including performing at Indieweek in Toronto.

Weaving their way between the multitudes of different genres that influence them, Atlas : Empire visit the worlds of heavy progressive rock and expansive ambient shoegaze. Exploring topics that centralise around the concept of become exponentially more reliant on technology and less “connected” by proxy, and the future of modern society when the system we rely on fails. Atlas : Empire are a progressive alternative rock band, based in Glasgow, UK. Since forming in 2011, Atlas : Empire have enjoyed success both through their recordings and over several tours crossing the UK, the EU and Eastern Canada, including performing at Indieweek in Toronto.
The band started as a duo between Steven Gillies and Jamie Sturt with programmed drums, the music was much more ambient, in a traditional sense. In 2012, they expanded to a 4-piece and the first EP “To The Astronaut…” was released adding more electronic elements, and ultimately progressing towards a more guitar-driven sound. They spent the next few years as a 5-piece, drawing influence from artists like O’Brother, Oceansize and Caspian gradually becoming heavier and more experimental. The second EP “Somnus” was released in 2013 with Rocksound proclaiming it to be “a lesson in progressive rock.” This was followed a few years later in 2015 with the third EP “For the Satellites”.
The full length “The Stratosphere Beneath Our Feet” is an ambitious concept album to be released in 2018, which the band is eager to get into the ears of their fans. Gillies introduces the premise of the album: “The Stratosphere Beneath Our Feet” is a concept album, based around humanity’s growing reliance on technology and specifically how society falls apart when that fails us. We wrote each song like a chapter in a book, both musically and lyrically, to follow that narrative.”

Wacken Metal Battle USA 2019 Band Submissions Open October 6th, 2018
For over a decade at the world’s largest outdoor metal festival Wacken Open Air, independent metal bands from around the globe have been performing in front of thousands and competing against one another for one to be crowned champion of the world along with winning multiple prizes (prizes info). For the third year, Wacken Metal Battle USA is returning to America and will be hosting qualifying rounds in select cities across the nation. The national champion of those battles will perform at 30th edition of the festival taking place from August 1st – 3rd, 2019 in Wacken, Germany. The 2019 Wacken Open Air line up includes Sabaton, Parkway Drive, Demons & Wizards, Powerwolf, Airbourne, Rose Tattoo, Within Temptation, Meshuggah and many more. Details here.

How it works:
Participating cities will host qualifying rounds plus a city final organized by a local city concert promoter where one band will move forward to the American national final in Los Angeles on May 25th, 2019. The winner of the national final will move on to perform at the 30th edition of Wacken Open Air, and compete against the winners of 29 other countries in a final global battle. All bands will be judged during battle rounds by respected local music industry representatives.

Sliptrick Records are proud to announce Swedish group Veonity will be unleashing their third full-length album “Legend Of The Starborn” on November 27th. Recorded by Ronny Milianowicz and mastered by Fascination Street Studios, “Legend Of The Starborn” forms the sequel to the space saga beginning on their previous album “Into The Void“. The album contains 13 masterful tracks of stadium fueled force that fans of the band and lovers of glorious, classic power metal will not be disappointed. The album also features guest appearances from Tommy Johansson (Sabaton, Reinxeed) and Patrik Selleby (Bloodbound, Shadowquest) with artwork done by Thomas Holmstrand.

Veonity is a Swedish power metal band playing energetic, guitar-driven music with their roots well founded in the German/Swedish late 90’s sound, without symphonic additions. Veonity brings straight up power metal with powerful choruses supported majestic choirs.
Veonity was formed 2013 by Anders Sköld, Samuel Lundström and Kristoffer Lidre. They were bound together by their love of power metal and a dream to create epic songs that never die. In 2014 Joel Kollberg brought his drumming skills into the band and the line-up was completed.
In the beginning of 2015 the debut album “Gladiator’s Tale” was released. Later that same year Veonity entered the studio of producer “Ronny Milianowicz” (Shadowquest, ex Dionysus record new material. The album named “Into The Void”, released in September 2016 via Sliptrick Records, is a concept album best described as a dystopic, futuristic space saga.
Veonity has played numerous shows in various European countries together with bands like Sabaton and Powerwolf. In February 2017, Veonity followed the German power metal band Freedom Call Call on an European tour. In June 2017 they also played at Sweden Rock Festival.

Japan’s SABER TIGER Posts New Video “Worst Enemy”
New Album “Obscure Diversity” Out October 10th via Sliptrick Records
Japanese progressive power metal group Saber Tiger have released an official video for their song “The Worst Enemy”, one of many standout tracks on their forthcoming album “Obscure Diversity” due out October 10th, 2018 on Sliptrick Records. Brutal and subtle in equal measures, Saber Tiger are taking no one prisoner in this video.

Note: The fleeting outdoor shots seen in the video were taken from the bands recent trip to Latvia in the Baltics (specifically at the ruins and beach in Karosta) very close to our home base at Sliptrick Records in Liepaja.
“Obscure Diversity” demonstrates a band that has no intention of slowing down more than three and a half decades after their formation. If anything, their trademark blend of classy melodicism and fierce intensity is in better balance than ever. Tracks like speed monsters “The Crowbar Case” and “Permanent Rage” feature every aspect that fans have come to expect from Saber Tiger; from the whirlwind guitar work of Akihito Kinoshita and Yasuharu Tanaka to Takenori Shimoyama’s passionate vocals and the intricate rhythms of drummer Yasuhiro Mizuno and bassist hibiki. “Beat Of The War Drums” is heavy and modern, while more atmospheric tracks like “The Shade Of Holy Light” and “The Forever Throne” show a surprisingly introspective side of the band without sacrificing any of the band’s renowned heaviness. “Distant Signals”, hibiki’s first songwriting contribution to Saber Tiger’s body of work, even manages to take the band to surprisingly progressive territories. Saber Tiger pulls all of these musical directions off with equal class and conviction, truly accounting for the diversity that they have promised in the album’s title.
Unlike their previous release “Bystander Effect”, which was mixed and mastered by founder Kinoshita himself, Saber Tiger sought international assistance for the sonic representation of “Obscure Diversity”. The band was looking for a certain degree of clarity and power and found exactly that when they enlisted the help of Simone Mularoni, guitarist of Italian progressive power metal band DGM and owner of the Domination Studio in San Marino.
“Obscure Diversity” will be released internationally by Sliptrick Records on October 10th, 2018 and is now available on pre-order here plus will be available on all major music platforms.

Drawing their inspiration from a wide variety of genres, OMINOUS ECLIPSE is a brutal quartet that create a unique hybrid sound with death metal being the main aspect combined with elements of thrash, groove, black, melodic, etc. Unleashing their sophomore album “Sinister” last month on September 14th, the band will be performing their hometown CD release show on October 6th at House of Targ in Ottawa along with performing in Montreal, QC the following week on October 13th at Piranha Bar.

“There’s no concept or theme on this album so all the songs have different meaning. The title track itself divulges into the inevitable end to humanity and potentially the world with it. It discusses the issues around the globe and also addresses the ignorance and selfishness of those indirectly affected by the chaos. It has a strong “United We Stand, Divided We Fall” theme in regards to how people can turn their backs on those in need in order to save their own skin, which ironically will lead to our end as it causes people to turn on each other. Musically for this album, you will notice we have evolved from the first release and have moved away from thrashy overtones to become more diverse including more heavily stated melodic and technical with a solid groove and death foundation.”
The album follows their 2015 debut full length “End Of Days” and EP “Beyond The Apocalypse” released that same year. Active since 2014, OMINOUS ECLIPSE is a very ambitious band passionate about writing and playing extreme music. They have already shared the stage with the likes of Revocation, The Agonist, Kalmah, Archspire, Incantation, Vesperia, Beyond Creation, Rivers of Nihil to name a few.
