Rome’s Shores of Null have a second teaser to whet palates in anticipation of their upcoming doom masterpiece “Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)”. Close to forty minutes, the one track album is an epic journey through the process of grieving.

From a lyrical viewpoint “Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)” is inspired by the five stages of grief formulated by the Swiss-American psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross and explored in her book “On Death And Dying”, hence the title.

“Beyond the Shores (Excerpt II)” is five minutes of pained, haunted vocals that convey feelings of despair set against a brooding doom background while the listeners are enveloped in cold feelings of loss. Existing fans of the band will notice a divergence in sound from they are used to from the band’s previous two releases. The overall sound gets even more diverse and peculiar thanks to the addition of classical instruments like piano and violins to the opus.

Shores of Null stands out from its contemporaries with its ability to blend seemingly disparate elements and their ability to sound overwhelmingly heavy and soothing at the same time. Blackened aggression stands alongside gothic-doom sections without either sounding out of place.

Recommended for any and all doom fans, especially fans of My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, and Amorphis, “Beyond the Shores (Excerpt II)” can be heard via its North American premiere on MetalInsider.net HERE.

“Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)” will be released in its entirety on November 27th, 2020.

About:

Shores Of Null is a Rome-based metal band, an unwavering presence within the metal underground since their musical outset in 2013. They have churned out two impressive records: the melodic and somber  “Quiescence” (Candlelight, 2014) and the darker and more complex “Black Drapes For Tomorrow” (Candlelight/Spinefarm, 2017), both of which were highly praised by the worldwide music press.

Shores of Null stands out from its contemporaries with its ability to blend seemingly disparate elements and their ability to sound overwhelmingly heavy and soothing at the same time. Blackened aggression stands alongside gothic-doom sections without either sounding out of place. Their music can be both melancholic yet majestic, made of chorale-like guitar textures across the instrument’s entire range, sustained by a powerful rhythmic section and punctuated by a refined mixture of clean and growled vocals, along with extensive use of pleasing vocal harmonies which have become the band’s trademark through the years.

Shores Of Null has performed over 150 shows, including six European tours (with In The Woods, Ereb Altor, Hooded Menace, Mourning Beloveth, Novembre, Harakiri For The Sky, Sylvaine, and more), dozens of shows and tours in their home country (with Primordial, Arcturus, Candlemass, Moonsorrow, Leprous, Saturnus, Negura Bunget, etc.) and many European Festivals (Inferno Festival, Eindhoven Metal Meeting, Winter Days Of Metal, Doom Over London, Metalitalia Fest, Frantic Fest, and more).

Shores Of Null’s third work, “Beyond The Shores (On Death And Dying),” is expected to be released in November 2020 via Spikerot Records, continuing to prove the band’s willingness to go off the beaten path and create their ultimate doom manifesto, a 38 minute-long suite emphasizing their heavier, slower and dramatic side, inspired by the five stages of grief formulated by the Swiss-American psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross. The band has collaborated on the dark opus with many special guests, including two doom-titans, Mikko Kotamäki (Swallow The Sun) and Thomas A.G. Jensen (Saturnus), along with the angelic voice of Elisabetta Marchetti (Inno). The band is able to present an even more diverse and eclectic sound on the album thanks to the addition of classical instruments like piano and violin, along with the return of the talented Marco “Cinghio” Mastrobuono (Hour Of Penance, Fleshgod Apocalypse) behind the production desk.

Rockshots Records: Infernalizer (ft. Claudio Ravinale of Disarmonia Mundi) Premiere Debut Single “Leaving So Soon?”
Video Premiere via MetalInsider

Infernalizer is a brand new creature conceived and brought to life by the creative mind of Claudio Ravinale to portray his own take on the heavy metal genre. Ravinale is best known as the vocalist of Italian death metal veterans Disarmonia Mundi, whom have achieved worldwide recognition with their high-octane melo-death throughout two decades and featuring Bjorn “Speed” Strid (Soilwork) among their ranks, along with being in other recognizable bands such as The Silverblack, 5 Star Grave and The Stranded.

Heavily influenced by 80’s metal acts such as Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Danzig, and Ravinale’s new project Infernalizer relies on the use of gloomy keys and eerie samples, paying homage to more somber gothic rock acts like Type O Negative and The Sisters Of Mercy. Vocally closer to contemporary acts like Rob Zombie and Wednesday 13, the range of influences also include evocative cinematographic soundscapes that provide Infernalizer’s songs with a more solemn and nocturnal atmosphere.

“Leaving So Soon?” is the first single chosen to introduce Infernalizer. The track was produced by NeroArgento at AExeron Studio (Turin, IT) and mastered at Sterling Sound Studio (Nashville, TN) by legendary Grammy Award-winning mastering engineer Ted Jensen (Guns N’ Roses, Korn, Pantera, Alice In Chains). Providing a modern take on the concept of heavy metal, the song features crooning vocals alternated with a more harsh yet still melodic tone adding a layer of evocative keys and samples to a solid foundation deeply rooted in 80s metal sound.

Listen and watch the music video for “Leaving So Soon?” via its premiere on MetalInsider HERE.

The band is currently in studio putting the finishing touches on the debut full-length entitled “The Ugly Truth” planned for release during 2021 via Rockshots Records.

0 Alexander Channels The Soundscapes of Purgatory With Debut Album “I” And Single “Astral Descent”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – October 30, 2020

For Fans of Sunn O))), Boris, Merzbow, Caspar Brötzmann Massaker, Burial Chamber Trio, Lustmord, Neurosis

Alexander Channels The Soundscapes of Purgatory With Debut Album “I” And Single “Astral Descent”

L-R – Kyle Alexander McDonald (Voices, Bass, Sub Synth) and Jörg Alexander Schneider (Drums, Percussion)

Alexander knows no bounds, not physically nor musically. Convening via their shared appreciation of experimentation and true artistic expression within music and sound, the duo realized the time had come to create a metaphysical exploration in the realm of darkness with an album titled “I” as the result.

Consisting of frontman Kyle McDonald of Canadian Mantra Doom band ZAUM and drummer Jörg Schneider of German Free Jazz band Jealousy Mountain Duo, Alexander identifies a connection and feeling within their individual creative headspace, allowing each of them to blindly lead the other further into the raw depths of unexplored regions. Commenting on how listeners will take the first release:

“Fans of our other musical endeavours should find this fits quite almost as expected in a sense. No lyrics, writing is channeled directly from the fringe of the universe. Reconsider the reality of your existence, in the present moment. Allow yourself to have your perspective altered!”

The single “Astral Descent” is the first glimpse into the monolithic funeral drone experience Alexander promises its listeners. The dark and intangible descent into madness echoes with reverberation and drawn out riffs.  Drums on “I” were recorded in Hückelhoven, Germany, with all other instrumentation and sounds recorded, mixed, and mastered in Moncton, NB, Canada.

Listen to “Astral Descent” on YouTube.

Alexander is Canada’s Kyle Alexander McDonald (Voices, Bass, Sub Synth, and FX) and Germany’s Jörg Alexander Schneider (Drums, Percussion).  Beyond the name being a shared common point, both veteran musicians got their start in music on drums; own and operate a recording studio on their respective continent, and have toured over 250 tour dates on each other’s continent in previous bands.

Just now commencing their audiological voyage, Alexander suggests that several more experimental funeral drone albums will follow. Alexander is recommended for fans of Sunn O))), Boris, and Merzbow.

“I” is out October 31st via Superbob Records on 12” LP.

Saving the dreadful year of 2020 with the announcement of their new album “Pleine Noirceur”, fans are ready to riot the moshpit for the new Fuck The Facts release coming this November 20th via their very own label Noise Salvation. Five years after they unleashed their Juno nominated “Desire Will Rot”, Fuck The Facts continues right where they left off, offering up another slab of their patented “bastardized” grindcore full of all the twists and turns that fans have come to expect. In lead up to the charge, the trio is sharing their third rampage of face-punching, fist-pumping extremity with “Dropping Like Flies”. It’s a complimenting smorgasbord of 90’s death metal, crust punk, and overall FTF trademark weirdness.

To get your fix of new Fuck The Facts, head on over to CVLTNation for the single’s exclusive premiere HERE.

Fuck The Facts has amassed a respectable discography over the years, and this new offering joins the 7 LPs and 6 EPs released to date. The considerable amount of time the band has been working together shows in the natural chemistry that courses through each of the 12 tracks. Fuck The Facts comments on the album:

“We took a long break before working on this album, I feel like it’s a collection of bits and pieces; old and new, short and long. It’s us working back into the groove, just in time for a pandemic. This album also could have easily been 3 EPs, you really have to listen to the whole thing in order to fully enjoy it. It opens the door for what is next.”

What started as a basement recording project in the late 90s has blossomed into one of the most prolific bands in the Canadian extreme underground scene. Fuck The Facts have always been more about making albums than just writing songs, using what’s left over for a separate EP, but this time around they decided to put the extra songs as bonus tracks on the different physical copies of the release, so the vinyl, CD and cassette versions will each have a different bonus track that’s not available on the digital release.

The unapologetic, experimental album probably needs a few listens in order to fully enjoy. Put on some noise-canceling headphones, choose your drug of choice, close your eyes, and enjoy.

Recommended for fans of Cephalic Carnage, Exhumed, and Morbid Angel, “Pleine Noirceur” will be available in several different formats on November 20, 2020.

About:
Started as a recording project in the late ’90s, it wasn’t until 2001 that the work ethic that produced a slew of underground releases drove Fuck The Facts towards full band status and into the live arena. Since then, the Ottawa-based unit has barely stopped for a breath of reconsideration, associating themselves with some of the biggest labels in underground extreme music, as well as continuing a steady output of DIY releases. Having toured hundreds of thousands of kilometers throughout North America and Europe, guitarist/founder Topon Das, vocalist Mel Mongeon and drummer Mathieu Vilandré have performed as some of the biggest festivals and sweated it out in some of the smallest basements. From 2006-2011 Fuck the Facts released three albums via underground powerhouse label, Relapse Records.  Upon the completion of their contract, the quintet decided it was time to put the finishing touches on the proverbial full-circle, returning to the world of fierce independence and creative control. Their most recent releases were produced entirely at their own studio, self-released, and shows Fuck The Facts efforts as an entity continuing to grow musically and personally while developing a deeper understanding of what significance their art holds to them. As one of the longest-running and most recognizable names in Canadian Grindcore, FUCK THE FACTS continue to deliver their brand of “Bastardized Grindcore” with no end in sight.

– 30 –

“avant-garde grindcore road warriors…boundless chaotic energy and unrestrained sense of experimentation. – Exclaim

“Their formidable discography is speckled with blips and bursts of every shade of extreme metal, hardcore, punk, and noise imaginable, spearheaded by vocalist Mel Mongeon’s razor-edged larynx and mastermind Topon Das’ mad fretboard genius.” – Pitchfork

“FUCK THE FACTS brings a strong collection of extreme metal tunes, often technical and scathing, sometimes grindy and with just enough melody to digest without heartburn.” – Blabbermouth

“explosive and ferocious” – Metal Sucks

“Fuck The Facts aren’t your average grindcore band.” – No Clean Singing

“Canadian grindcore hurricane” – CVLT Nation

“It’s impossible to deny that the grindcore-meets-death-metal hybrid sound they’ve created” – Lambgoat

“While other bands of the same style, Sunn O))) for instance, mostly aim for the slow and, as the name of the genre suggests, droning tones. Alexander however, implements other sounds into the music, unnerving sounds of laughs and the like. “Runes” gives the impression, and has the atmosphere, of a ghost town. Faint sounds of what used to be.” – Metal Injection

“This is extremely well made material… for those who “get” this music I suspect this one will be regarded as quite the unexpected gem.” – House of Prog

L-R – Kyle Alexander McDonald (Voices, Bass, Sub Synth) and Jörg Alexander Schneider (Drums, Percussion)

“I” is a two-track monolithic funeral drone experience that is a dark and intangible descent into madness that echoes with reverberation plus drawn-out riffs and comes from the duo’s shared appreciation of experimentation and true artistic expression within music and sound.

Guitar/Bass edits by Michael Goodrich and cover art by Marc Whisnant.

It’s been about two years since the band’s sophomore release “Terror of the Cybernetic Space Monster” and Sacramento sci-fi power metallers Helion Prime returns with their third effort and the much shorter title “Question Everything” set for release on Monday, October 5th, 2020 via their label Saibot Reigns.  This is Helion Prime‘s first album with new vocalist Mary Zimmer, who has also accompanied the band on two separate tours of the United States. It also sees the band’s original singer, Heather Michele, returning in a writing capacity and contributing all lyrics and melodies. Heather Michele also along with other former Helion Prime vocalist Sozos Michael and with John Yelland (Judicator/Dire Peril) add their guest vocals on the full length.

The highly anticipated third record is a concept album, with each song revolving around different figures throughout human history that had the courage to question the status quo of their respective worlds/societies, in some cases even dealing with harsh persecution as a result. Those Helion Prime chose to write about-faced prejudice, mockery, ex-communication, and persecution – yet through it all, they held true to their beliefs and ideas. Time would be their greatest ally as their ideas and identities were eventually validated, oftentimes not until after their passing. They serve as an inspiration for all minds to continue thinking outside the box and staying true to themselves.

Rockshots Records: Greek Power Prog BLACK FATE Release Music Video “Maze”

New Album “Ithaca” Out Now!

Greek power prog Black Fate is sharing with fans their new music video “Maze” in support of the new album “Ithaca” released on October 23rd via Rockshots Records and Rubicon Records in Japan.

The band comments about the song:

“‘Μaze’ is one of the most representing tracks for “Ithaca” and Black Fate in 2020. It has one of our favorite guitar riffs and one of the most catchy choruses in the album. The middle section shows our atmospheric and progressive side. With haunting melodies and vocals, delicate keyboards, and a technical yet very melodic solo, Maze is one of our favorite songs in ‘Ithaca”‘.

Watch the video at the following link on YouTube.

With their heartbreaking world-class vocals, catchy hooks, and lyrics, along with crashing guitar riffs, haunting melodies, and furious technical and melodic solos, Black Fate continues to satisfy bands with the release of their 5th studio album. “Ithaca” was mixed and mastered by Steve Lado and follows full-lengths “Between Visions and Lies” (2014) (Ulterium Records), “Deliverance of Soul” (2009) (Asiral Records), “A Piece of Dream” (2002) (Secret Port Records), “Uncover” (2001) (Secret Port Records).

The band comments on the release of “Ithaca”:

“‘Ithaca’ is melodic, technical, and groovy, but also a bit dark. It has beautiful and strange melodies with powerful emotions. We believe it’s an album for all kinds of metal audiences. We hope the fans will see it the same way. We see ‘’Ithaca’’ as a very integrated album. Fans who have followed us over the years will also notice many changes in the songwriting process, we concentrated to find the best form and the best overall result for every song.”

After a short hiatus, the band returned in 2009 with their next offering “Deliverance of Soul’’ via Asiral Records.

Then in 2014, the power melodic metal band switched up to a new line up featuring vocalist Vasilis Georgiou, guitarist Gus Drax from UK bands Biomechanical and Sunburst, bassist Vasilis Liakos and drummer Tsintzilonis Nikos. The new line up recorded the album ”Between Visions and Lies” released by Swedish label Ulterium Records in 2014 along with the label re-issuing in 2016 the band’s re-mastered 2009 album ”Deliverance of Soul” along with new album artwork.

Then in 2019, the band recruited keyboardist Themis Koparanidis and Black Fate hit the studio to record their 12 track epic “Ithaca” that was mixed and mastered by Steve Lado and now scheduled to be released via Italian label Rockshots Records for October 2020.

Black Fate is inspired by the giants of their genre (Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Kamelot, Nightwish, Iron Maiden, Dio, and many others) and look forward to showcasing their blend of melodic progressive power metal in the next chapter of their two-decade career.

Protokult Announce Toronto Album Release Concert w/ Limited Capacity Due To Covid

November 15th at The Rockpile

New Album “Transcending The Ruins” Out Now!

L-R: Dawid (Bass), Kaveh Afshar (Percussion), Ekaterina (Vocals, Woodwinds), Martin Drozd (Vocals, Guitar, Synthesizer), Jack Neila (Rhythm and Lead Guitar)

Protokult have been defining folk/pagan metal since 2009 when they released their debut album “Ancestral Anthems”, since then they have created three additional uncompromising and relentless albums with their fifth “Transcending The Ruins” recently released on October 1, 2020.

In celebration of the new full length, Protokult announces they will be hosting their album release concert on November 15th in Toronto at The Rockpile with guidelines to follow from the province and the city’s rules on events, which includes an all-seated event with a capacity of 50 along with masks enforced in common areas. Full details on the event and instructions to respect health precautions for Covid can be found HERE.

The band adds:

“We know times are crazy and artists the world over are feeling the grip of COVID regulations. We decided to release the long-overdue album for your enjoyment! If you reside in the Greater Toronto Area, we invite you out on the 15th of November to celebrate the release at the Rockpile. Standard regulations will be in place so first come first serve. Stay safe. Remember, Rock and metal will NEVER die!”

Over two years in the making, “Transcending The Ruins” is a rush, meant to be enjoyed either as a whole journey or at any entry point, the band ensures. Approaching this record with a bit more maturity and consistency, the result is heavier, faster, darker.

Inspired and fascinated by various metal genres alongside folk-culture, after a few years of experimenting, Protokult was meant to fuse the two together while paying homage to the past, Bacchanalian festivities, and honouring the underground.

For fans of Arkona, Korpiklaani, and Nightwish, the record pulsates from start to finish yet incorporates the massive dynamics, ambience, and dashes of folk-melodies that the band has become known for.

The band comments on the full length’s release:

“‘Transcending The Ruins’ is an album about growing up and tipping our hats to the great metal influences of the generations. Some can say the industry has been shaken hard and is in a state of flux so as artists we try to outdo ourselves on every performance and transcend what the popular or common standards may be. Everyone is playing on the edge of their ability and no matter whether you listen from start to finish or dive in randomly, that energy and sincerity are everywhere. This is Protokult on speed all the while putting on a professional face, which makes it the most consistent and rewarding album to date.”

“Transcending The Ruins” is available on Bandcamp (CD), Spotify, Apple Music.

EPKAbout:
As interests in history, paganism and folklore took an increasingly strong hold on folk metallers Protokult, they were inspired to unleash their debut album, “Ancestral Anthems” in 2009. With the first two pressings selling out in months, they vowed to take things to the next level while continuing to deliver a unique mix of Canadian and international influences. In 2011, they released their next offering, the EP “Marzena”, then followed by sophomore album “No Beer In Heaven” that was widely praised for its hooky fun-loving anthems, especially the single “Get Me A Beer!”.

Protokult’s goal? To unite its members’ diverse cultures into one sound, balancing tradition and folklore with heavy, thrash, and black metal for headbangers everywhere.

Over the past few years, the ever-evolving Protokult has graced the stage with the likes of Arkona, Turisas, Alestorm, Gloryhammer, Tengger Cavalry, Cellar Darling (X-Eluveitie) and Razor.

With beauty and the beast-like contrast between Ekaterina’s haunting vocals and the band’s metal rampage, they are ready to unveil their third full-length “Transcending The Ruins”, which is slated for release on October 1st, 2020. The album captures the reformed quintet at an all-time high, showcasing an impressive palette of powerful riffs, glorious onslaughts, and essentially reminds us, why we love heavy metal and it’s darker atmospheric shades.

“they’ve got a good sense of humor, and they sound top-notch” – Metal Sucks

“boozy blast of heathen prog” – Team Rock

“Le metal a du talent.”  – Metal France

“a superb album. Protokult gives folk-metal a new nice dimension. Their progressive folk-metal approach is a very delicious one. Don’t let the ‘beer-titles’ fool you, the band goals are far beyond beer-humpaa. They’re far more serious, despite of the sometimes quite merry tunes. This is one of the best folk-metal albums I’ve heard this year” – Folk-Metal.nl

“Let’s mark the list down, shall we: Awesome Folk music spanning different areas of sound and direction, check! Creative and art work based around an old fashioned beer hall, check! And last, but certainly not least, BEER themed music!!!!.” – Metal Temple
