Mythraeum Crowned Wacken Metal Battle USA 2022 Champion

To Play Wacken Open Air – The World’s Largest Metal Festival

WMBU National Final Spotify Playlist HERE.

After months of battles across the United States, Wacken Metal Battle USA is proud to announce that this year’s 2022 crowned champion is San Diego’s Mythraeum. The band will now move on to the international battle being held at this year’s Wacken Open Air (Aug 4-6) with winners from various other participating countries from around the world. Mythraeum was declared victorious after a well-deserved performance at the national final for Wacken Metal Battle USA in Los Angeles on May 7th at The Viper Room alongside the five other finalists that included Our Dying World (LA Winner), The Stage of Dreams (Ohio Winner). Donella Drive (Texas Winner), Phantom Witch (Bay Area Winner), and Pitch Black Mass (Pacific Northwest Winner). The national final was judged by Cameron Webb (Grammy Award-winning Producer/Engineer (Motorhead/Megadeth), Rod Kukla (Silver Lining Music), Charles Elliott (Abysmal Dawn/Product Manager Nuclear Blast USA), and Eric Dow (Wacken Metal Battle USA, Fatal Illness Management, Helsott).

Eric Dow adds:

“Where to start?… First off I just want to thank everyone who came out to any of the battles this year. Your support means the world to us. Right before Covid hit we were running stronger than we had ever been. I was so proud of the momentum we had and the battle we had all built. After missing 2 years due to Covid I didn’t know what to expect. I figured we would be rebuilding this battle from the ground up. Luckily I was so wrong.

The support we received this year culminated in the best turnout at the National Final we have ever had. Each judge was on point and had a different band they liked the best. No blowout like in the previous years. This battle was decided by TWO points! That’s how these things should work. I want to thank Charles Elliott, Cameron Webb, and Rod Kukla for taking on the task of judging this most important of battles. I want to thank Sascha and everyone involved with the Wacken Metal Battle around the world.

Every band last night killed it. To: Pitch Black Mass, Phantom Witch, Donella Drive, The Stage of Dreams, and Our Dying World… You all did everything that was expected of you and you should not feel bad about not coming in 1st place. You are all winners in your own way and should be extremely proud of yourselves. Only up from here and I will be watching your journey. Cheers!

Finally, congrats to Mythraeum. Well earned and well-deserved victory. You edged out the best of the best and should be proud. This final battle was intense. You could feel it in the room. Go to Germany and make USA proud!”

Wacken Metal Battle USA returned to American shores after two years of hiatus due to the Covid pandemic. From the months of January to April, over 100 bands from across the states battled each other out in Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), Las Vegas (NV), Akron (OH), Los Angeles (CA), San Diego (CA), Orange County (CA), Crockett (Bay Area – CA), Phoenix (AZ), Tucson (AZ), Austin (TX), San Antonio (TX), Lubbock (TX), El Paso (TX), and Houston (TX).

WMBU 2022 – NATIONAL WINNER – Mythraeum (San Diego Winner) – An alchemical process manifested through primal means, Mythraeum is an expression of the rage, misery, and longing that existence provokes. https://mythraeum.bandcamp.com

Our Dying World (LA Winner) – Melodic death metal from the greater Los Angeles area. Bringing some of the best elements from every genre, they’re hoping to bring a new feeling to the metal world and dissolve the barriers between genres to make them fit seamlessly. https://ourdyingworld.bandcamp.com.

The Stage of Dreams (Ohio Winner) – Heavily influenced by classic metal bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Judas Priest. Their upcoming EP was recorded at The Vault in Pittsburgh, PA and was produced and engineered by Multiplatinum Producer Dave Hillis. https://thestageofdreams.rocks

Donella Drive (Texas Winner) – Combining elements of alternative metal, post-hardcore, and progressive rock, San Antonio outliers Donella Drive cannot be categorized by a singular label. https://donelladrive.bandcamp.com

Phantom Witch (Bay Area Winner) – They were sent to this time from 1986 to bring Thrash to the future. Hold on to your butts.

Pitch Black Mass (Pacific Northwest Winner) – From Oregon state!! Thrash Metal Heavy Hitters. https://youtu.be/kBQEKXcTjqs

For the last three years (2017-2019), Wacken Metal Battle USA has hosted battles across the country to send one independent metal band to perform at the world’s largest metal festival Wacken Open Air in Wacken, Germany. 2019 saw the festival celebrate its 30th anniversary, but due to Covid, the 2020 and 2021 editions were both canceled. As the metal community regains its strength, Wacken Open Air 2022 will be the 31st edition of the festival and will be held from August 4th to 6th. The 2022 event is already sold out with a line-up that includes Slipknot, Till Lindemann (Rammstein), Judas Priest, Limp Bizkit, As I Lay Dying, Lacuna Coil, Danko Jones, Gwar, Death Angel, Tarja, and many more. Details here.

Wacken Metal Battle USA is part of an international competition that sees bands from across the country battle each other for the chance of winning their spot among 29 other countries’ champions, and representing the USA in an international battle of the bands at the world’s largest outdoor metal festival: Wacken Open Air. The battles have been hosted at the festival for over a decade giving independent bands the opportunity to showcase their talents to an international audience along with the chance to win multiple prizes.

How it works:

Participating cities will host qualifying rounds plus a city final organized by a local city concert promoter where one band will move forward to the American national final (date and city to be determined). The winner of the national final will move on to perform at the Wacken Open Air 2022 and compete against the winners of 29 other countries in a final global battle. All bands will be judged during battle rounds by respected local music industry representatives.

0 TheProgSpace Premiere – Iran’s Heterochrome Now Streaming Deeply Personal And Heavy Album “From The Ashes”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 10, 2022

Iran’s Heterochrome Now Streaming Deeply Personal And Heavy Album “From The Ashes”

“From The Ashes’ Out May 13, 2022

“From The Ashes” is the second album from Heterochrome and it takes a deep dive into personal experiences the members have felt in their own country and also touches on global issues. The band came to be when Arash Rezaei (guitars/vocals) and Mida Malek (vocals) met in college and realized they shared a passion for music and a feeling of not belonging in their surrounding society. This was the glue that bound them together to start writing and recording music. They give some insight into the album:

“This album has been an opportunity for us to form our unique sound and experiment with new aspects of songwriting. This is the first time we are trying to introduce Farsi lyrics in a couple of our songs, opening up more space for us to connect with our audience. Trying to add layers of atmospheric and electronic sound design, in addition to the utilization of more acoustic instruments, enabled us to execute a more dramatic performance and listening experience.”

“From the Ashes” was written as a concept album, with every single track forming a small part of a bigger picture. Although each track has a unique story by itself and can be enjoyed individually, the album has been tailored with smooth transitions between them. The ten songs on the album were the ones that have the most in common with each other, exploring the social and political situation in the band’s home country as well as other places in the world. They already have the raw material and concept for future releases as well, but no solid plans on when to release them yet.

The album was produced and mixed by Arash Rezaei, mastered by Danny Klaven and the artwork was done by Banafshe Najafi. Malek has been active as a playwright and has acted in various plays, with that background Heterochrome is able to bring a unique theatrical aspect to their live performance. They are recommended listening for fans of Draconian, Lacuna Coil, and Opeth.

“From The Ashes” will be released on May 13, 2022 and be heard now before it officially drops via its full stream premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

0 Canada’s Harvested Are Now Streaming Their Debut S/T Death Metal EP

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 5, 2022

Canada’s Harvested Are Now Streaming Their Debut S/T Death Metal EP

Debut Self-Titled EP Out May 7th

Photography Credits: Dark Moon Productions
Current Line-up: L – R: Eric Forget – Bass | Jacob Collins – Drums | Adam Semler – Vocals | Mitchi Dimitriadis – Guitar

Live Line-up: Eric Forget – Bass | Jacob Collins – Drums | Adam Semler – Vocals | Mitchi Dimitriadis – Guitar | Miguel Marcheterre – Pina – Guitar

Harvested, hailing from Ontario and Quebec, Canada, is pleased to finally be releasing their debut self-titled EP. In the past few weeks, they have released a series of music videos to highlight singles and also show the intricacies of their music through playthroughs. Now fans can listen to the entire thing ahead of its official release via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

Lyrically, Harvested explores the topics of mental illness as a general theme. The drums have an old-school death metal feel with a modern touch and intricate yet very aggressive drum grooves. Vocally, Adam’s technique and overall projection is a respectful nod to George Fisher from Cannibal Corpse. The music stays mostly true to classic American Death Metal, but there are subtle elements from black metal and slam that make it interesting for a wide variety of listeners. They comment on the EP:

“We are beyond thrilled to present our very first self-titled EP to everyone. After years of hard work and dedication, as well as lockdowns and a few minor setbacks have only made us more prepared and we are finally ready to show you all what we’ve got. Having years of musical background and being good friends for years has added to the energy and chemistry we portray in our live performances. Our debut EP is just a taste of what we’ve accomplished so far as an unknown band in the last 3 years of forming, though we have much more in store coming very soon!”

The EP is nothing less than a heavy, aggressive, in-your-face experience; riffs that hook and engage the listener and keep them wanting more. The band makes a solid effort to maintain the brutality, but with a psychological aspect to it, as opposed to exclusively encompassing gore.

The EP was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Dark Moon Productions, who according to the band, did an awesome job providing them with the sound they were looking for, a modern production but rooted in the styles of the bands that founded this genre.

Harvested is recommended listening for fans of Hate Eternal. Cannibal Corpse, and Deicide.

The self-titled EP is being released on May 7th, 2022.

“Non-stop heaviness from start to finish. Every song has a different experience yet they all have memorable and catchy riffs that engage the listener” – Eric Morotti (Drummer of Suffocation)

“The EP is quite awesome and I’ll find myself listening over and over again! They sound like Cannibal Corpse/Dying Fetus and many more. The day Harvested has a show in Montreal you can expect to see me in the pit.” – William Biron

“Presenting Harvested: Hailing from Ottawa is one of Canada’s finest emerging death metal bands. Their debut E.P. brings that good ol’ churning feeling in your stomach like you just chugged a 40 of malt liquor and fell down a hill! Dangerous, disorienting brutal fun. The way death metal should be. If you’re into Cannibal Corpse, Immolation, and Morbid Angel or just having an all-around good time, look no further.” – Brandon Aitchison

Get Ready For A Sonic Punch To The Face!

BRUTTA (ft. members Athemon, Ex-Haken) Posts Teaser For Debut Self-Titled Album Out June 2022

Photo credit: Gledson and Adriano: Felipe Rinke. Tom: self-taken photo

Brutta is a solid, heavy-hitting band straight out of São Paulo, Brazil, and the UK. Although they are relatively new, the trio of Adriano Ribeiro (Athemon) (guitars, vocals), Tom MacLean (Athemon, ex-Haken) (bass), and Gledson Gonçalves (drums) have many years of experience working together under their belts and leave nothing to be desired in both their recorded material and live performance. To get fans excited about their debut self-titled album that will be coming out next month, they have just released a teaser video. The band hints at what listeners can expect in their initial release:

“The album is a definitive punch in your face… or maybe we could say a hammer in your forehead! A mixture of open evil chords with blast beats finding a defined yet tormenting growling vocal. The song themes are very precise and the lyrics bring a subjective aspect of humans’ mental conflicts from a darker angle. It’s right there, aggression, darkness, heaviness, a critical sound mass with a huge personality, not to mention its fine production.”

Listen to the album teaser at https://youtu.be/E5F9g62pS3c

Throughout the album, fans will be greeted by tense, obscure, and wicked music; death metal blast beats, and black metal riffs. Lyrical themes are at times gruesome like the serial killer tale in “Mortem”, and others question religion like “Bastardo” and “Cristus”. The dark themes compliment the creative and original music well, proving that these seasoned musicians are highly talented and have a solid connection.

Metal fans looking for a definitive punch in the face will enjoy the adrenaline surge that Brutta provides, they are recommended for fans of Vltimas, Mayhem, and Bloodbath.

Their self-titled album will be available on June 17, 2022.

About:
After working for Athemon (Adriano Ribeiro (guitars, vocals) and Tom MacLean (ex-Haken) (bass)) as their session drummer, Gledson Gonçalves had the idea of creating another project with more extreme music. Recruiting Ribeiro (guitars, vocals) and MacLean (bass), both were very eager to dive headfirst into the aggressive sound Gonçalves had in mind. A few jams later and Brutta was officially formed as a studio project over two contents. Gonçalves and Ribeiro in Brazil and MacLean in the UK.

Brutta works collaboratively through every part of the process, first Ribeiro develops and assembles the riffs, to which Gonçalves adds drum parts. The final musical touches come in as MacLean weaves the bass riffs and then vocals are layered on top with lyrical themes coming from human behaviour, especially its darker angles.

As they plan to hit the stage in the near future, fans will be met with loads of energy and power during the set as Brutta releases their demons through strong performances, so the audience can do the same.

A modern and in-your-face version of obscure and wicked music, Brutta rises like brutal “Heavy Post Metal” their debut, self-titled album will be released on June 17, 2022.

Montreal, QC – May 4, 2022

BURIED REALM Release Melodic Single “Poison Palace” Ft. Christian Münzner (Obscura) and Heikki Saari (Finntroll)

Self-Titled Album Out June 3, 2022

Colorado’s Buried Realm has a third album coming out, and like its two predecessors, it is chock full of heavy riffs, whiplash-inducing drums, and solos performed by a multitude of talented guests from around the world. This latest, self-titled offering has a third single entitled “Poison Palace”, which features the furious guitar work of Obscura’s Christian Münzner and drums by Heikki Saari (Finntroll). The man behind the project, Josh Dummer explains the track:

“It is the most abrasive and intense Buried Realm song. Lyrically, it is about people becoming chemically dependent, believing there is no other cure for their ailments. Ultimately, driving people to the point of mind-warping insanity.”

It is fitting that Münzner took up guitar duties on this track, it is a violent display of adrenaline and devastatingly heavy solos. Throughout the rest of the album, guests include musicians such as Dan Swanö and Christopher Amott (Dark Tranquillity, ex-Arch Enemy).

“Poison Palace” can be heard via its premiere on MetalInjection HERE.

Buried Realm started with Dummer wanting to release a solo album, he worked with a plethora of illustrious musicians to create it, to a great media response. With the exception of the guests, he composes everything and intends to keep writing and putting out albums on a regular basis for as long as he can.

Technical and fierce, “Buried Realm” is recommended for fans of Scar Symmetry, Children of Bodom, and Nevermore.

The self-titled album will be available on June 3, 2022.

About:
A true visionary is a rare thing, but such a man is Josh Dummer exemplified in his solo studio project Buried Realm. Influenced by personal experience and executed through metaphors, the progressive and heavy metal leaves room for interpretation and paints an interesting picture for listeners.

Inspired by Opeth, Kreator, Old Man’s Child, Symphony X (and tons of old Hair Metal!), Dummer is a man who is not afraid to gaze into the abyss for music and lyrical inspiration. He describes Buried Realm’s music as ‘fierce, cutting, technical, melodic, and memorable.’

Following up on his long-time idea of releasing a solo album, he seized the chance with his first offering “Ichor Carcinoma”. Released in 2017 it features guests such as Christopher Amott (Arch Enemy, Armageddon), Peter Wichers (Soilwork), Teemu Mäntysaari (Wintersun) and Travis Montgomery (Threat Signal, Jeff Loomis band).

In 2020, Dummer released is the follow-up sophomore “Embodiment of the Divine” and while it was parallel to the first, both musically and lyrically, it took a step in a sojourn journey. It featured many guests such as Andy Gillion (Mors Principium Est), Benjamin Ellis (Scar Symmetry), Bob Katsionis (ex-Firewind), Dean Arnold (Primalfrost, Operus, ex-Vital Remains), Lee McKinney (Born of Osiris), Peter Wichers (ex-Soilwork), Rafael Trujillo (ex-Obscura), and Ryan Strain (Chaos For The Masses.

The next chapter in Dummer’s journey is the release of his third self-titled Buried Realm studio album on June 3, 2022. Once again, Dummer has invited many guests on this record with Bob Katsionis (Witch Bones), Christian Münzner (Poison Palace), Christofer Malmström (Elder Gods), Christopher Amott (The Iron Flame/ Quicksand Memory), Dan Swanö (Where the Armless Phantoms Glide) and Dean Arnold (Spectral Light, Primalfrost). The lyrical theme on this full length is about paranormal and psychological twists… mind tricks.

Discography:
2022 – Buried Realm
2020 – Embodiment of the Divine
2017 – The Ichor Carcinoma

– 30 –

“Like its predecessor, this one’s an absolute ripper on the more technical / heavy side of the melodic death metal coin.” – Metal Sucks (Embodiment of the Divine Review)

“Creative, melodic and really charming, “Embodiment of the Divine” is an amazing experience. 10/10” – Metal Temple

“Well done melodic death metal that hits all the right marks.” – Dead Rhetoric

“The fast-punching grooves in the song (The Wonder and Terror of Fortune) are a match for the ecstatic energy of everything else. One listen, and you can tell why this track was chosen as the album closer — it sends the listener out on an enormous high.” – No Clean Singing

“Buried Realm play an eager, galloping sort of melodeath, with lots of speedy leads, upbeat riffs, synthesizers, and solos everywhere. It’s almost as if Blind Guardian enthusiasm and subject matter met up with Scar Symmetry’s love of ambience and melodic-yet-death-y riffs… I commend Buried Realm for their songwriting, performances, and ambition.” – Angry Metal Guy

“Given that The Ichor Carcinoma has so many guests, it stands to reason that it has a diverse sound, ranging from hyper-speed solos, breakdowns, a mixture of screams and clean singing and more, but at the end of the day, it can be classified as an impressive melodic death metal debut.” – Decibel Magazine (Review – The Ichor Carcinoma 2017)

“Buried Realm sound a whole lot like what you’d expect given the bands whose guest musicians Dummer tapped for the project: aggressive, catchy, Sweden-inspired melodic death metal. If you like all the bands name-checked above, you’re sure to like this one. It’s incredibly well-done and expertly crafted.” – MetalSucks (Review – The Ichor Carcinoma 2017)

For fans of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Kyuss, Sleep

“Friends, this EP has been a long time coming. As a lot of other bands experienced at the beginning of the pandemic, not being able to gather as a full band or find open studio space kind of made making music difficult. So we decided to do it mostly by ourselves, at a distance. With some help, we got it done. We’re stoked to finally present it for streaming everywhere. We hope it’s worth a listen or three.” – Elektric Mistress

“With an ominous as hell intro, the first track on this three-track EP is certainly the most expansive and progressive of the bunch. It dissolves quickly into trippy psych-rock that builds towards something that can certainly be called unique. The 70s vibe doesn’t just come from the riffs either, with the clean vocals having a real early rock years sound to them.” –  Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life (2019 – Elektric Mistress – EP)

“Elektric Mistress are a blooze bar band, but with all the pizzazz of seventies throwback rock… Musically, Elektric Mistress have a distinct voice with ambience and dripping cool, but coupled with a vocalist who transitions from a throaty rasp to southern twang to make this a fresh and engaging take on a legacy seventies sound.” –  Power Play Rock & Metal Magazine (2019 – Elektric Mistress – EP)

“Make no mistake, Elektric Mistress are a heavy rock and roll band and they’ve got the ‘k’ in “electric” to prove it…” –  The Obelisk  (2019 – Elektric Mistress – EP)

“The first step can only be taken when the last toke has been drawn and ELEKTRIC MISTRESS is ready to unveil their single ‘Turn To Grey’ off their upcoming debut self-titled EP due out on July 19th. Channeling the energy of inspirations such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Pink Floyd the stoner rock quintet from Halifax, Canada is all about the groove. ELEKTRIC MISTRESS is face punching psychedelic rock firmly rooted in what has come before, and also looking ahead, their single ‘Turn To Grey’ is described as ‘smoke rings in a blizzard’. – Metal Bulletin Zine (2019 – Elektric Mistress – EP)

“Very classy stuff, and it is absolutely recommended!” – Melodic.net (2019 – Elektric Mistress – EP)

====================

The EP as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

High energy psychedelic heartache with some witchcraft!

We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel or anything here; we’re just trying to write the best songs that we can. The EP is a banger straight through; there’s really no spacey stuff on this one, maybe except for the middle break in Radio. Lyrically I think we go by the motto WWBSD (What would Black Sabbath do?); The general heavy music concepts of madness, the occult, the dangers of substance abuse, lost love, etc. A lot of our lyrics we find mix these concepts with stuff about the experience of playing live on the stage and the music business in general.

Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

1. Magic Dust:
Pure stoner rock. Also, a tasty organ solo in the middle. It’s about two people embarking on a romantic psychedelic trip together for the first time.

2. Radio:
A song about how music or a song brings back memories of past relationships. Our most Black Sabbath-type riff, for sure. Riley came up with the main riff on this one.

3. Cocaine Johnny:
It’s a fun and high energy song with some dark lyrics about addiction. Cocaine’s a hell of a drug!  Purple worship, pure and simple. Just tuned a lot lower. This one was written by Maxwell pretty much entirely.

4. Chapter 99:
It’s a great time! It’s a party and everyone’s invited, even the dead!  People have been trying to connect the dead since the beginning of time, via seances, spells, and Oujia boards. A stomper for sure. Hopefully, it gets people moving.

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS:

1. None of the songs on the Chapter 99 EP were recorded in a studio, because of the global pandemic and just not having the cash. This was our first crack at self-production. Also, the stringed instruments and keys are completely digital.

2. However, if you hear tape noise in the tracks, that’s because they were shoved through the CLASP system (Closed Loop Analog Signal Processing) at Fang Recordings. It basically shoots everything from Pro Tools to a Studer A80 2-inch tape machine, mixed down to stereo with a Studer A810 ¼ inch, and then back to Pro Tools for that old recording sound. Apparently, CLASP is a super-rare system, and it’s the only one that exists east of Montreal, so we were very lucky to be able to utilize it. Heh, we crushed the hell out of that tape.

3. Maritime Hard Rock and Metal Festival is always a good time. Especially when the go-karts are working. We’re pretty sure we spent most of our money into the wee hours of the morning on those. Gas-powered, too, so they rip pretty hard.

Channeling the energy of inspirations such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Pink Floyd, Halifax, Canada Elecktic Mistress is all about the groove with their face-punching psychedelic stoner rock firmly rooted in what has come before, but also pushing towards what is ahead. If you’re looking for a true retro psychedelic synth-rock experience with a progressive edge, Elektric Mistress is here to deliver! Take a deep breath and ride the wave through a hypnotic haze of electric highs and sedated tones to take you back in time and return again.

Comprised of guitarists Kyle Cantfell (Guitar) and Jason Cantfell, bassist Kieran Richardson, vocalist Maxwell Poole, keyboardist, Riley MacDonald and drummer Valencia Canales , Elektric Mistress began their journey through oblivion in 2018, making noise on the Canadian East coast scene, which included performing on the area’s largest event, the Maritime Metal and Hard Rock Festival during the same year of their conception.

The band released their first debut in 2019 with their self-titled EP showcasing their unique soundscape of stoner rock ignited with crunchy, groovy guitar riffs, bombastic drums, dirty keys, and choice bass licks plus loud and raspy vocals. Now in 2022, the band returns with their follow-up and sophomore EP “Chapter 99” for release in June 2022.

The band adds: “Friends, this EP has been a long time coming. We hope it’s worth a listen or three. We think we’ve been steady on the course as far as evolution goes for this next release. However, now that guitarist Jason Cantfell has joined the band, we’ve been doing a lot more guitar harmonies and stuff we couldn’t do before; the end part in Cocaine Johnny is a good example of that. Definitely expect more of that in the future.”

“Chapter 99” is due out on June 17, 2022 and will be available on all digital platforms.

EPK – Eaten By Sharks – Eradication (2022)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“Eradication toes the line of music and concept, metal meets shark. The album delivers seven tracks, lyrically depicting the horrors of mankind using oceanic imagery. It represents our best fin forward, pulling out all the stops to get the listener to Drop anchor and experience the package as a whole. Lots of tasty treats in our instrumental approach, progressively chomping through each song with razor-sharp riffs and bone-crunching rhythms. Lyrically, taking the con to steer the narrative into the nautical hell that is Eaten By Sharks. Additionally, topping it off with Christian Donaldson’s sonic production, the rattles your existence like a mega-tsunami.” – Eaten By Sharks

If you’re new to the group, they’re from Ontario, and like the majority of Canadian tech-death bands, they’re damn good at what they do. Don’t let the goofy band name and oddball cover art fool you, this is not amateur hour stuff… As for what the song has to offer, “Depth Charge” is built on continual flipping back and forth between heavy groove terrain and frenetic riffs aided by ripping leads. In doing so, the song feels almost wave-like in its structure, an ever-changing stream of back and forth battling going on underwater. From the time I’ve spent listening to the full release, this is definitely an album many of you will enjoy.” – Metal Injection

“Eaten By Sharks bring aquatic brutality to Technical Death Metal… Eradication should be of great interest to fans of bands like Fit For An Autopsy, Cattle Decapitation, and Revocation and will be available as a CD or digital download. So take my advice, stay out of the water, go grab a copy and let the feeding frenzy begin upon some other unsuspecting victims.” – Metal Talk

“These guys are all business, and put together a pretty compelling, often crushing effort ” – Metal Rules

“Eaten By Sharks have proven that you don’t have to push boundaries or re-invent a genre to make great music. You just have to make stupidly fun, incredibly groove laden slam influenced tech death that happens to be themed entirely around sharks. I for one had a blast listening to this album and came back to it several times. On display is non-stop killer riffage, thick bass, powerful vocals, high energy drum work and as mentioned a ton of groove to tie it all together. Let loose and enjoy. ” – Cave Dweller Music

“Eradication is an absolute blast and one that hits just as hard as you want it to, and is just as serious as you want an album from a band called Eaten By Sharks to be. I wholeheartedly recommend this beast and hope that you have fun listening to it. I did.” – Noob Heavy

“Eaten by Sharks are fun and easy to bang your head to, even as Tyler Abrams’ buzzing, groovy bass on the opening moments of “Depth Charge” sets up a furious breakdown. Album closer “Megalodon” sees Eaten by Sharks allowing just a little more technicality and experimentation to filter into the sound but it’s still pretty safe and by the numbers death / deathcore. It’s also undeniably fun, with the one-two punch of “Dead Weight” and “Kill and Consume” a particular highlight, with the former hitting almost thrash levels of energy in its feeding frenzy middle section.” – Angry Metal Guy

“I just discovered Eaten by Sharks, and the band is a good surprise. Their mix of several styles focused on raw violence and devastating technicality makes Eradication an explosive and extremely effective album.” Acta Infernalis

“Eradication is a cracking slab of death metal, excellently written and performed to a high level.” The Razor’s Edge

“Combining new and old Death Metal influences, Eaten By Sharks have proven themselves to be a cut above the competition at the top of the food chain ” – Metal Noise

“It’s got great energy and the sounds are visceral – so well done to all concerned because this is a fine release and will be a an excellent addition to anyone’s death metal collection sitting neatly besides the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Immolation and Dying Fetus.” – My Global Mind

“Never straying far from their love of chunky riffing, sprinkling some technical parts here and there, Eaten by Sharks is balls out heavy and loads of fun. This record is being self-released, but I would not be surprised if their next album comes out on a label, as there should be a lot of interest around Eaten by Sharks when Eradication drops.” – Metal Epidemic

“in terms of pure heaviness and brutal riffs, Eaten By Sharks hit the mark in an exceptional way throughts this second release… those looking for a superb alternative to Meshuggah and Decapitated, there’s definitely plenty here to entertain.” – Real Gone

“Not all of the material is shark themed. “Dead Weight” describes the grotesque lengths a man would go to avoid death at sea and “Same Face, Different Mask” seems to be talking about a serial killer. Still, sharks are their sweet spot, whether it’s from the perspective of the victims or the shark itself like on “Apex Predator.” Eaten By Sharks is a niche band in a niche genre. However, if you find yourself regularly watching Jaws and Deep Blue Sea, and are a fan of bands like Cattle Decapitation, Dying Fetus, and Cannibal Corpse, then Eaten By Sharks is not to be missed.” – I Am Tuned Up

“Eradication has all the pacing of a tech death album with blast beats, quick riff transitions, and wicked solos. Matt Sheriff has great range on the vocals and hits the low growls, the high raspy screams, and plenty of solid mids. He has an incredible flow, at times just as unnervingly quick as the guitars he barks over. The line ‘stare into the bastards eyes a f*****g devil in disguise I’m dragged into the depths below a life of agony unfolds” on “Depth Charge” has the cadence of Serj Tankian at his most unhinged.” – I Am Tuned Up

“Shit, did they put on a solid show and constantly required crowd interaction.  They seamlessly blended classic and modern death metal with some technical flare here and there.  I was thoroughly impressed with this awesome band, and can only add another solid band to the ever-growing laundry list of opening bands that may or may hit hit the spot…..and Eaten By Sharks fucking shredded!” – Technical Music Review (Live Review – Eaten By Sharks Opening for First Fragment – St. Catharines, ON -12-2-18)

“They groove a ton, with some sweet guitar licks for good measure to keep your ears engaged.  They’re a mix of classic and new death metal, and just as ferocious.” – Technical Music Review

==================================

The album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

Tells a story of nautical destruction.

Matt went to invoke feelings of fear and bring you along as a first-person, a victim of society in a merciless assault of sharks infiltrating a people’s world.

Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

Shallow water — The lyrics for the opening song of this EP sets the scene for some nautical mayhem. Depicting a breach of humans imposing their presence in a shark’s home. Not liking this invasion, the Sharks bite back attacking, creating fear and madness. Humanity, desperate to save itself, exacts its revenge but mistakenly after the kill, doesn’t realize it was the children of a gargantuan Mother. She then returns to punish their greedy actions and finishes them once and for all, puny humans.

Deadweight – this song hits quickly, revealing some of the hells we face out on the open waters, alone out in the elements, what will you do to survive. Having to fight for our lives, fighting off infection and the madness that ensues. After losing complete control of the mind, you’re left with fewer limbs than you started with, begging for better days.

Kill and consume – PSA – don’t eat shark soup. After being cursed for the poor choices of humanity you are left wishing for the only release possible. Death.

Same face, different mask — this song is a little less nautical, instead of focusing on the aspect of being like a shark. A ruthless, unstoppable predator, unable to deal with its petty surroundings. It’s time to take matters into your own hands and attack.

Depth charge — for this song we go right back into the first-person view of the horrors of a shark attack. Dragging you down into what could be the mouth of hell. Escape is not possible. All hope fades as the light from the surface disappears leaving you with nothing but a broken shell of a body, until even that gets devoured.

Apex predator — the POV of this song switches from the victim, to the victor. Become the apex predator. Leave nobody alive.

Megalodon – this last song reminds you that none of us are safe. After the endless curiosities of mankind bring us deeper into the depths, we realize we have awoken what can only be called hell. The megalodon is back and hungry after centuries of deep rest. The hope of escape is quickly cut off by the jaw of the colossal beast. Escape is the only chance to live. Will you survive?

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS:

1. Cats are Jerks. “Playing a Metal fest, in Hamilton, We were getting ready to go onstage and the switch over time was really tight. Chap opened up his guitar case to find his cat and left him a surprise; he had pissed all over the fretboard right before he had packed up. The singer from one of the headliners caught the moment and said, “Yeah I saw the guy open the guitar case, look concerned, then he picked up the guitar, smelt it, looked up into the sky and yelled FUUUUUUCK!!!” 30 seconds later Chap is in the bathroom with mounts of single-ply toilet paper, the guitar in the sink, water running, and people wondering what the fuck is going on. He was able to take the stage for the set just in time but every time he had to do some finger tapping he felt like he was grinding the piss into the fretboard, nobody shook his hands for a week after that. Cats are jerks, stick with fish!”

2. When we found Matt he was recording vocal playthroughs of Archspire songs, on Facebook. I showed the video of him to the rest of the band and we said let’s take a chance, even though he shot it on a cell phone from 1999 you could tell this kid has chops!. Turned out to be quite the talent and a sweetheart of a guy, on the surface anyway…..

3.  We were supposed to record the album Spring of 2020 but the Pandemic hit and it caused us to postpone the recording a few times. A year and a half later, we finally got up to Montreal and recorded with Christian Donaldson. It was such a strange time leading up to the recording, however, with the extra waiting, we were able to squeeze a few more tracks in and get super tight. It was the fastest that we have ever completed tracking which gave us time for some RnR and to go to some sick breweries, sampling some amazing craft beers!

A different type of beast has emerged from the murky depths of Canada’s technical death metal scene. Eaten By Sharks, from the Niagara Falls region is prepared to usher in a new wave of aquatic brutality, and devastate the landscape with a perfect blend of technical precision and unbridled aggression. The wait is over. There is blood in the water. The feeding frenzy is about to begin…..

Their first bite was the release of the 2013 debut EP  ”We’re Gonna Need A Bigger Boat” and now they are ready for fans to deep dive into their first full-length “Eradication”, which will throw listeners into a typhoon of riffs, breakdowns, gritty vocals, and heart-pounding drums.

“Eradication” toes the line of music and concept, metal meets shark. It tells a story of nautical destruction, in a first-person horror story, as a victim of a society in a merciless assault from sharks infiltrating the human world. The listener will be struck with Thalassophobia – the persistent and intense fear of deep bodies of water such as the ocean. The feeling of something underneath you, that you can’t see.

“Eradication” delivers seven tracks, lyrically depicting the horrors of mankind using oceanic imagery. Eaten By Sharks puts their best fin forward, pulling out all the stops to get the listener to drop anchor and experience the package as a whole. Lots of tasty treats await the discerning metal fan through their instrumental approach, as they progressively chomp through each song with razor-sharp riffs and bone-crunching rhythms.

“We pull from various elements of thrash, Death-core, Traditional Death Metal, Tech-metal, and Hardcore and match that up with the horrors of the deep. Each of the songs on the EP has a different approach to our influences, however, it retains a solid instrumental and lyrical theme throughout the tracks. Conceptually, we keep things on the water and embrace the image of the fear and respect that comes from the breach of a single dorsal fin.” adds the band.

Fans of Fit For An Autopsy, Gojira, Cattle Decapitation, and Revocation will be especially interested in taking the plunge with Eaten By Sharks.

The album “Eradication” was released on August 26, 2022 with more music and touring to follow in 2023.

============================

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS:

After coming up with the band’s name, Brutta, we discovered that its meaning in Italian is ‘ugly female’. That was funny but also weird for us and we almost give up the name, since we don’t want to offend anyone, especially the ladies. We believe true beauty lies within each one of us. It’s about who you are, not what you look like.

============================

The album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

The album is a definitive punch in your face… or maybe we could say a hammer in your forehead! A mixture of open evil chords with blast beats finding a defined yet tormenting growling vocal. The song themes are very precise and the lyrics bring a subjective aspect of humans’ mental conflicts from a darker angle. It’s right there, aggression, darkness, heaviness, a critical sound mass with a huge personality, not to mention its fine production. A huge amount of energy released while listening to the album is guaranteed (laughs).

Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

1. Brutta: It’s the opening song and carries the band’s name. It’s about letting yourself be transformed by Brutta’s aggressiveness admiring its uniqueness while being taken over by the transformation process. Brutta is what everyone will become, so watch out!

2. Mortem: From a victim of a cold assassin perspective, it’s hard to tell when the bloodthirsty will make a move and execute his final stroke. This song carries a tense description of the please to stack chopped bodies and live among hands of blood to mutilate and break the ones consider to be inferior people by the killer.

3. Frgmntd: Existence inevitably, from time to time, breaks the individual. An imprecise cave, full of depth, where one feels opaque, taken and strangled. It is difficult to fix what you don’t understand, and through the despair of not putting the pieces together, you live as fragments.

4. Bastardo: Not everyone believes in the fable of Jesus, but those who do often point fingers in criticism at their fellow men. However, it is common to see devotees misinterpreting their own existence, preferring to pray until they are blind. What if all of Christianity is just folklore? If there is no god, would Jesus be a bastard?

5. Inferno: When life acts wicked, greater is evil. Inferno speaks of the process of dodging facts, extinguishing the light of understanding, and thus letting the beast gradually take control of interpretations. The shadow of hate creeps in, and when it dominates one, that’s when self-hell is penetrated. When life acts wicked it is necessary to understand that one is under the influence of his beast, of his evil. When life acts wicked you are evil.

6. Cristus: When one is invaded by the feeling of existential emptiness, it is common to resort to belief. However, it is not by following the ‘legion of Cristus’ that one will be miraculously absorbed by his own acts of the unspeakable. You cannot resort to an unknown greater force if you are not able to fulfill personal dogmas. No way out, it is important to bow to self-ignorance.

7. Devon: We are now inside the mind of a sick, sociopathic and dangerous to society individual. He is locked up in the confines of Devon, a prison made for violent offenders. Nevertheless, our prisoner can’t wait to run away so he can keep chasing you…

8. Limbo: Limbo, a state of indecision, uncertainty, indefiniteness. Imagine not wanting to know who you are, you can’t support any more self-defense and now you are surrendering to loss. Right there, the dead won’t be any helpful. Right there, about to collapse death is preferred to ruin.

L-R: Gledson Gonçalves (drums) | Adriano Ribeiro (guitars and vocals) | Tom MacLean (bass)
Photo credit: Gledson and Adriano: Felipe Rinke. Tom: self-taken photo

After working for Athemon (Adriano Ribeiro (guitars, vocals) and Tom MacLean (bass)) as their session drummer, Gledson Gonçalves had the idea of creating another project with more extreme music.

REBEL PRIEST

Rebel Priest is a no-nonsense, real-deal rock n’ roll band composed of three seasoned musicians who have been making their way through the Western Canadian rock n roll scene for years. Vocalist/bassist Jayme Black (Lust Boys, The Toxiks); guitarist/vocalist Benny Kemp (Lust Boys, Road Rash); and drummer/vocalist Nate Pole (Kill Matilda, The Toxiks) bring nothing but unadulterated, high energy grease infused Trash N’ Roll!

The band has had the pleasure of touring Japan, and performing alongside bands such as Udo (Accept), Lordi, Diamond Head, Crystal Pistol, Flotsam, and Jetsam along with playing many headlining gigs with the energy of Motorhead meets Motley Crue. Since forming in 2014, the band has released three studio albums “R’ley Heavy” (2019), Enabler (2017 ), Self-Titled (2015) along with one live record “Dead Alive @ SBC (2017).

Now in 2022, they offering up a slab of new music in the shape of a new EP “Lesson In Love” via Batcave Records/Thundermoose Entertainment on June 24th to follow their 2021 EP “Lost In Tokyo”. The forthcoming EP “Lesson In Love” is four tracks that ready’s fans to hear the band’s NWOTHM influences along with their brand of slurry heavy Rock n Roll.

Compared to last year’s EP “Lost In Tokyo”, which was written in Japan at the very end of 2019 about their adventures in the country, “Lesson In Love” takes a new avenue as they explain:

“On this EP, we really tried to lighten it up and go back to the energy and feel that got us playing in the first place, music for and adventure or memory-making music! The soundtrack for that summer you’ll never forget or that time you did that thing and you’ll always think of it when you hear this song. It’s a feel-good and takes no prisoners combo at the same time!”

Rebel Priest is recommended for fans of Guns n’ Roses, AC/DC and Motley Crue.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 3, 2022

Canada’s Elektric Mistress Conjure A Hazy Occult Séance In “Chapter 99”

New EP June 17th

Halifax, Nova Scotia’s Elektric Mistress has a new EP “Chapter 99” coming out, which promises to be a sonic blast of psychedelic groove tinged with occult overtones and sludgy riffs. This will be their second EP, following their self-titled in 2019. Since then, they have added a new guitarist and a potent new layer of sounds for fans to discover. The first single they are releasing is the title track, a stomper that will get you moving and vibing to the lyrical themes of communing with the dead. The band explains further:

“Chapter 99 was honestly not the first choice for this single; we had some trouble deciding just what to present, because we think they’re all pretty ok, heh. We decided to get an objective set of ears to sort out our predicament, and this one stood out above the rest. It’s about trying to connect with the other side. It has a definite occult overtone, in the oldest heavy music tradition.”

Having a second guitarist has added to the complexity of the band, although their evolution has remained fairly steady over the past couple of years. They have started to incorporate guitar harmonies to complement their stoner rock style but still leave room to be unique and creative and resonate with listeners. Lyrics are inspired by events, people, memories, feelings, or certain energy. There are plenty of psychedelics, sci-fi, witchcraft, and apes!

The EP “Chapter 99” was entirely recorded and self-produced by the band, and all the stringed instruments and keys are digital. It was mixed and mastered by Alex Burris at Fang Recordings, and the EP artwork was done by Ricardo Arreola.

Elektric Mistress is not out to reinvent the wheel, they deliver straightforward rock n’ roll vibes for good times and bad. They are recommended listening for fans of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Pink Floyd.

About:
