GREBER Unveil Music Video For Harsh Sludge/Hardcore Track “Nosebleed”
New Album “Fright Without” Out Now!

Greber is a harsh grind/hardcore act, coming at ya’ from the east coast of Canada. They have recently released a new album “Fright Without”, which is their fourth full-length. They now have a video for the track “Nosebleed”, an honest look at reality, which will throw listeners directly into the fray that is their low-end dominant, noise-encrusted, hardcore grind. They explain in their own words:
“This one is a bit all over the place. Maybe TOO all over the place perhaps. We dig it nonetheless. Topically….and orally….this one is just a reckoning with the fact that we are all closer to death than we can ever imagine. Either that or further than we can imagine. The nug of bullshit that I’m getting at is that few people are ever aware of the fact that they are doing something for the last time. The last time is just the last time and then whatever it is you were doing, ends. Life. Your car. Your hair. Your friends. Just love the shit out of as much as you can throughout the duration of the current nightmare you’re experiencing. There I go pontificating again.”
The video for “Nosebleed” can be seen and heard via its premiere on EverythingIsNoise HERE.
For the duo of Steve Vargas (drums/vocals) (The Great Sabatini) and Marc Bourgon (bass, vocals) (ex-F*ck The Facts), the lyrics always come first and the rest of the song is built around them. Primary songwriter Bourgon mentions that he’s started taking way longer to form and conceptualize song ideas before even picking up the bass and it helped him keep things focused.
Compared to their other albums, they say that this new one is the same, but different; there is evidence of evolution, but fans who have been with them from the beginning will still get along with the new offering.
Greber invites the world to indulge in gritty vocals and a harsh low-end attack. They are recommended listening for fans of Unearthly Trance, Cult Leader and Primitive Man.
“Fright Without” is available from the following labels: Ancient Temple and Nofuneral for Vinyl, CD, and Cassette in Canada, Hibernation Release for Vinyl in the USA, and 7 Degrees and Fresh Outbreak for Vinyl in Europe.

“Greber is here to do one thing, and it’s throw aural punches. The band is now streaming their new single “Into Silence” alongside a new video directed by Torin Langen, both of which are as fantastic as they are disorienting.” – Metal Injection
“Crazed and raging, it reaches fever pitches of savage rampaging. But even in a song (Tree Carving) that barely clears the minute-and-a-half mark, Greber do what they always do — shift gears and contort moods, and electrify the music with constantly changing fretwork and drum patterns. Oh yes, these dudes know how to spin heads as well as traumatize them.” – NoCleanSinging
“the riffs that power Fright Without are frequent and come in a variety of forms. Whether it’s the sludgy plod on songs like “Larkinitis” and “Rats of Subversion” or the full grindcore assault on “Fabricated Purpose” or “Into Silence”, there’s a surprising amount of variety on the record, an attention to textural detail that belies the band’s instinctual approach. While the riff may not be the most important structural element to every Greber song, it’s nevertheless the thing that first grabs the listener’s attention” – Exclaim
“the band’s forthcoming fourth album, Fright Without which grows their combining of elements of punishing sludge, doom, grind and metallic hardcore into a frantic wall of sound that reminds as much of Swans, Napalm Death and Coalesce as it does Big Business, Burnt by the Sun and Painkiller.” – Decibel Magazine
“Chaotic force of nature Greber are set to return with their latest full-length offering Fright Without and they’re angrier and louder than ever. The band hit the listener with a furious wall of sound that sits somewhere between grindcore, sludge and hardcore…. another solid notch in the duo’s already impressive belt ” – Cave Dweller Music
“It goes without saying that Fright Without is an intensely oppressive record, but given that it only spends half an hour trying to suffocate you it’s definitely worth letting it have a go. If you’re a fan of the bands mentioned at the top of this review (Mastiff, Helpless, and Yautja) you should have no disappointments here, and the two-piece dynamic actually ends up working in Greber’s favour in that it sets them apart at least a touch from an increasingly crowded scene of bands devoted so proudly and exclusively to misery and mire.” – Noob Heavy

Canada’s Greber is the no-holds-barred, to-the-point hardcore grind band that you have been waiting for. For those uninitiated, they are a ferocious duo that keeps it on the low end, saturated with gritty vocals and a no-bullshit attitude.
Veterans in the scene, Greber’s discography spans 13 years and contains four full lengths and seven splits, they say that their music comes from a place of rationality, it’s something real and visceral, not a sugar-coated illusion. The main message they try to get across with this album is that life isn’t meant to get better, it just is. They continue to explain:
“At the risk of delving too deeply into Deepak Chopra’s tinged pontification, that was really the starting point for most of the material. Hopelessness, fear, age catching up to you, uncertainty, failure. You know, the happy-go-lucky crap that we need to get out somehow, and when we do, we still manage to feel pretty much the same. Like a Steinbeck novel that has been looped for eons with some tasteless humour mixed into it all.”
According to the duo of Steve Vargas (drums/vocals) and Marc Bourgon (bass, vocals) “Fright Without” is a handleless staircase that disorients as much as it overwhelms. It is their testament to suffering and hope, balance and woe, heaven and here. They hope that the listener finds it to be as much of an escape as they do a confrontation.
The album is ten succinct songs composed and executed mostly by Cargas and Bourgon. They are joined on a few of the tracks by musicians providing noise, vocals, and guitars. It was recorded by Sean Pearson at Boxcar Studios in Hamilton, Ontario; it was mixed by Kurt Ballou at Godcity in Salem, Massachusetts; mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege in Portland, Oregon, and the artwork was done by Marcos Guinoza.
Harsh and full of contemplative energy, Greber is recommended for fans of Primitive Man, Black Sheep Wall and Man is the Bastard.
“Fright Without” is streaming now on Decibel Magazine HERE.
The whole album is ready for consumption on September 9, 2022 and will be available from the following labels: Ancient Temple and Nofuneral for Vinyl, CD, and Cassette in Canada, Hibernation Release for Vinyl in the USA, and 7 Degrees and Fresh Outbreak for Vinyl in Europe.

Canadian duo GREBER (members ex-F*ck The Facts, The Great Sabatini) announce they will be hitting the road in September and October (dates listed below) in support of their new and fourth album “Fright Without” due out on September 9th via the following labels: Ancient Temple and Nofuneral for Vinyl, CD, and Cassette in Canada, Hibernation Release for Vinyl in the USA, and 7 Degrees and Fresh Outbreak for Vinyl in Europe.
“Fright Without” is ten tracks written and performed mostly by Steve Vargas (drums/vocals) (The Great Sabatini, BIIPIIGWAN) and Marc Bourgon (bass, vocals) (ex-Fuck The Facts) who are joined on several of the tracks by various musicians. These additions add new dimensions to the tracks, giving the listener more to chew on.
Since forming in 2006, GREBER has come out with an impressive array of albums including multiple splits with a myriad of crushing bands. The powerhouse duo delivers a full sonic assault of grind and hardcore, leveraging the small member count to allow for more flexibility in their writing process. Bourgon, who writes the skeletal structures for the songs, always starts with lyrics – sometimes even just a title. He carries a journal around with him and the fleeting observations that make it in there, are what inspire most of his conceptual content. He says that “we all have this beautiful gift of seeing the world very differently than the next person and I’ve found that capturing those nuanced differences to be both liberating and maddening.”
Bands that are hard to pigeonhole, are the kind of bands that the guys in Greber enjoy and they love that they can do something different and not completely cause anyone to retch. Or CAUSE them to retch in a good way. They are recommended listening for fans of Cult Leader, Primitive Man, and Black Sheep Wall.

The deadly duo of Canada’s Greber is a harsh hardcore concoction that has a solid new LP “Fright Without” coming out this year. Since getting together way back in 2006, they have come out with an impressive array of albums including four full-lengths and six splits with a myriad of crushing bands. Thus far, they have put out two singles and are now following them up with a third in order to get fans stoked on the new release. The single “Tree Carving” is the shortest track on the album, at just a minute and a half, but it delivers a full barrage of grindy low end, backed by aggressive drums. They explain the single further:
“As Robert MeKee proclaimed in Charlie Kaufman’s “Adaptation” – “Wow them in the end, and you got a hit. You can have flaws, problems, but wow them in the end, and you’ve got a hit.” Well, hopefully, the listener is wowed with this short rager of a song and this record is a SMASH HIT. Lyrically it’s a trifecta of three paths with four souls hosting many regrets and no foreseeable way to undo it all.”
Greber is the powerhouse duo of Steve Vargas (drums/vocals) (The Great Sabatini, BIIPIIGWAN) and Marc Bourgon (bass, vocals) (ex-F*ck The Facts, Cancelled) who deliver a full sonic assault of grind and hardcore, leveraging the small member count to allow for more flexibility in their writing process. Bourgon, who writes the skeletal structures for the songs, always starts with lyrics – sometimes even just a title. He carries a journal around with him and the fleeting observations that make it in there, are what inspires most of his conceptual content. Canada’s Greber are the no-holds-barred, to-the-point hardcore grind band that you have been waiting for, and for those uninitiated, they are a ferocious duo that keeps it on the low end, saturated with gritty vocals and a no-bullshit attitude.
Steve Vargas (drums/vocals) (The Great Sabatini, BIIPIIGWAN) and Marc Bourgon (bass, vocals) (ex-F*ck The Facts, Cancelled) have put out several albums, both full lengths and splits with an admirable array of bands. Their newest contribution is “Fright Without”, ten succinct tracks that may surprise longtime fans of the band. They cite, in relation to their evolution, that since 2006 it’s been an involved process and that having just one melodic instrument it’s sometimes as limiting as it is freeing. Right when Bourgon feels like he’s run out of ideas, another one emerges and Greber keeps puttering along. He explains the second single off “Fright Without” – “Fabricated Purpose”:
“Honestly, this is our best attempt at Masakari worship. The beginning hits the mark but invariably comes off the rails towards the end. The end needed something special and we’ve always been huge fans of all that is Kevin Keegan. He was kind enough to lend his golden voice to the track and we couldn’t possibly be more chuffed. When I sent Kurt the song he asked if it was Danko Jones on that part. I told him it wasn’t but was stoked that he knew who Danko was. The outro has some atmospheric drones courtesy of Sean Pearson.”
When asked how they will expect fans to take the new album, with its slightly divergent sound compared to their previous work, they explain that they have no idea, it’s the same but different. They muse that perhaps they are “over the hill and should pack it in, maybe this is the best shit we’ve ever written, maybe hard trance has always been the best fit for us”. It’s up to listeners to decide now, and those with an interest in Black Sheep Wall, Primitive Man, and Cult Leader should take note.
“Fabricated Purpose” can be heard via its premiere on IDIOTEQ HERE.
“Fright Without” is slated for September 9, 2022, and will be available from the following labels: Ancient Temple and Nofuneral for Vinyl, CD, and Cassette in Canada, Hibernation Release for Vinyl in the USA, and 7 Degrees and Fresh Outbreak for Vinyl in Europe.

Greber is a harsh grind/hardcore act, coming at ya’ from Ontario, Canada. They are releasing a new album “Fright Without”, which will be their fourth full length, later this year and in anticipation, are getting listeners stoked with their first single “Into Silence”.
Even just as a duo, Steve Vargas (drums/vocals) (The Great Sabatini, BIIPIIGWAN) and Marc Bourgon (bass, vocals) (ex-Fuck The Facts) sacrifice nothing and deliver a rush of intensity boosting adrenaline in listeners. Bourgon writes most of the skeletal ideas, which always start from the lyrics. Even if it’s just the title, it has to be there before he can let loose. Once Vargas comes in, things start to take shape, and chaos can begin. They explain the single “Into Silence”:
“This song is well above either of our abilities playing-wise so I’m sure we’ll never rock it live, thank Christ. Just a blasting of riffs and drums and pain. Nice. As far as a lyrical theme goes it’s just a portrait scaling the finer points of dissociation. Steve is just full-on, triple E, BEEEAST mode on this number.”
For Greber, the lyrics are an ever-evolving slog through a myriad of different sources. According to Bourgon, it used to be an overly personal airing of this or that, but on “Fright Without”, he went to great lengths to make it hurt more and to branch out as far as he could. The duo has come a long way since their debut back in 2006, their current form is raw and relentless, a sonic battering of low-end stylings.
In terms of influences, Vargas and Bourgon share the same love for “no bullshit” type bands. “Bands that only need what’s coming out the speakers and nothing else” such as Yautja, Malevich, Gaza, and Converge. Recommended for fans of the visceral, Greber will be enjoyed by those with an interest in Man is the Bastard, Black Sheep Wall, and Primitive Man.

GREBER Announce Upcoming Grinding Hardcore Onslaught “Fright Without” Out September 2022

The deadly duo of Canada’s Greber are a harsh hardcore concoction that have a solid new LP “Fright Without” coming out this September 2022. Since getting together way back in 2006, they have come out with an impressive array of albums including four full-lengths and six splits with a myriad of crushing bands. “Fright Without” is being teased right now with an enticing short video, and for those that are interested in snagging the full release can pre-order it. Greber shares their excitement for the release:
“Fright Without’” is a handleless staircase that disorients as much as it overwhelms. Our testament to suffering and hope, balance and woe, heaven and here. With Kurt Ballou lending his abilities to the mix we’re beyond happy with how the final product came to sound and we hope that the listener finds it to be as much of an escape as they do a confrontation.”
Looking forward to getting feedback from listeners, Greber quotes that the album is “the same but different” from their earlier releases. They’ve given it their all to deliver raw, unrelenting noise and the few who have had the chance to hear it, have mentioned it being a big change.
Risen from the ashes of their former band Tugnut, Vargas and Bourgon figured they weren’t done playing music together, and the seedling of Greber was nurtured from its germination to be a loud and devastating live force that could be used to vent their various creative impulses and have a really fun time doing so. Fast forward almost 16 years and it is still something that delivers on that front for them personally so mission accomplished.
Those that get to see Greber play live can expect a succinct set, with limited banter, no guitar player, high decibel levels, and a few sweet LED lights. They are recommended listening for fans of Unearthly Trance, Man is the Bastard, and Black Sheep Wall.
The teaser video for “Fright Without” can be checked out now, the full release is slated for September 9, 2022, and will be available from the following labels: Ancient Temple and Nofuneral for Vinyl, CD, and Cassette in Canada, Hibernation Release for Vinyl in the USA, and 7 Degrees and Fresh Outbreak for Vinyl in Europe.

“For this record, I (Marc), would get some ideas into a skeletal structure via some computer demos and then send them off to Steve to hash out some general ideas. From there we just ran the Christ out of them in our jam space and they morphed accordingly. I still get amped on hearing how Steve perceives the stuff I bring to the table. It’s never the way I hear it in my head and I couldn’t be happier with the way that we’ve evolved together over the years. It’s easy to take it for granted, but it’s something that I wholeheartedly cherish and love the dude to no end.
A big difference between Fright Without and our last record, Cemetery Preston, was that there were a lot fewer revisions. I could all too easily drive myself insane with the “make-song-better” process and I found that over time it was way too much stress and I couldn’t cope with doing it at that level anymore. Maybe if there were some clear-cut and qualitative progress made visible by the madness I would have had a harder time with the divorce but I love what we did with this record and am glad we switched up our approach.
Fright Without is a handleless staircase that disorients as much as it overwhelms. Our testament to suffering and hope, balance and woe, heaven and here. With Kurt Ballou lending his abilities to the mix we’re beyond happy with how the final product came to sound and we hope that the listener finds it to be as much of an escape as they do a confrontation.” – GREBER

#10 Greber – The National Loud Chart For the Week Ending: Tuesday, October 11, 2022 (earshot)
“In short – listen to “Nosebleed” and you’ll very quickly get a feel for what Greber are all about… A wholly frantic and intense listen, Fright Without will probably leave you a little disorientated, but you will feel all the better for it.” – Everything Is Noise
“If you know me, you know that I wouldn’t normally be one for grindcore, or powerviolence. Consider me converted, and we have Greber to thank. Fright Without further asserts them as a unique and essential player in the subgenre. Their deranged, yet intelligent approach has culminated in something truly affecting, and pretty damn awesome.” – Angry Metal Guy
“Kind of a death/grind sound going on… heavy and in your face.” – The Mosh Pit 89.9 FM (Madison, WI)
#1 Loud February 2018 on The National Loud Chart (Cemetery Preston – 2018) (Earshot)
Highlight – #7 on The National Loud Chart – For the Week Ending: Tuesday, February 6, 2018 (Earshot) (Cemetery Preston – 2018)
Highlight – #5 on The National Loud Chart – For the Week Ending: Tuesday, January 30, 2018 (Earshot) (Cemetery Preston – 2018)
“Spawned from the former bassist of legendary grind band Fuck The Facts, Greber are a deadly sludge-grind two-piece. The band take a no-frills approach to metal, with a dark tone shooting back and forth between down-low grooves and harsh blasts of noise that underground metal fans will instantly latch on to.” – Alt Press (50 rising Canadian bands by province to keep on your radar)
“Greber offer up their latest slab of crushing sludge- and doom-laden grind with their new album, Cemetery Preston. The duo consist of bassist/vocalist Marc Bourgon (ex-Fuck the Facts) and drummer/vocalist Steve Vargas (The Great Sabatini), who create an exceptionally raw and visceral sound with their unique approach.” – Exclaim! (Cemetery Preston – 2018)
““Obliterating” is the word that comes to mind first in reflecting on this massive marauder. The vocals are raw and unhinged; the bass riffs are hard and heavy enough to reduce tall building to tiny piles of smoking gravel; and the tumbling, battering, bone-smashing qualitis of the changing drum rhythms are seriously attention-grabbing. There’s doom and blood-thirsty violence and a healthy dose of head-nodding compulsiveness in this genre-bending song, and I’m now slobbering to hear more from Greber.” – No Clean Singing (Cemetery Preston – 2018)
“Greber’s pursuit of intricate heavy music pays off immensely. “Cemetery Preston” will be one of the most unique and layered experiences of this year.” – The Sludgelord (Cemetery Preston – 2018)
““Backhanded Interest” for your aural perusal. It’s a no-face-unpunched collision of pressure cooked lactic acid low end tone and pounding at the inside of the coffin lid drumming with just enough feedback/noise to break up the gang hanging out in the doughnut shop parking lot.” – Decibel Magazine (Cemetery Preston – 2018)
“Greber lay down sludgey power violence, noise rock, and doom with authority here on their third full-length. And it’s no surprise this band delivers unique, passionate extremity.” – Bravewords (Cemetery Preston – 2018)
“Greber has certainly created their own sound with Cemetery Preston. A medley of differing metal styles delivered in bitter fashion. The duo bring an level of intensity that walks a tight line between sludgy riffs, grinding drum beats & wild hardcore style vocals.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life (Cemetery Preston – 2018)
“Greber have released one hell of a record in the form of Cemetery Preston” – Sputnik Music (Cemetery Preston – 2018)
“Cemetery Preston, their third album proper, saves its blast beats for punctuation amid its predominantly prowling tempos, harkening back to the fact that even the genre’s originators didn’t go full tilt on every track” – New Directions in Grindcore – Bandcamp Daily (Cemetery Preston – 2018)
“They tick all the required boxes and right from the offset of opener ‘Backhanded Interest’ they go for the knock-out punch. A fist in your face. This unrelenting violence continues for the entire duration of the album, nowhere do they give the listener a chance to breathe. After the last tones of ‘The Closer We Got’ you’ll have been beaten into a pulp.” – Lords of Metal (Cemetery Preston – 2018)
“On Cemetery Preston, Greber have produced some of the heaviest, super-massive black hole music, this side of Unearthly Trance.” – Hellbound (Cemetery Preston – 2018)

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS:
1. Not really OUR story to have but we were 2/3’s of its cast and it was so unspeakably horrible that we have the right to spin the yarn of our Tugnut 2006 Canada/USA tour. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, Steve and I’s old band, Tugnut got set to embark upon a 2 and a half month tour across the United States and Canada. It started out as only 2 months and grew into 2 and a half when Steve and I realized that his first show that he had booked in Vancouver (our first show back across the border into Canada) was 2 weeks AFTER our Seattle show. (Steve was booking the Canadian shows and I was booking the US ones) After the discovery was made a frantic last-minute jaunt through the big sky regions of the upper midwest began with little success. We played roughly 42 shows in 72 days. With over HALF of the days of tour being off we defaulted to sitting in whichever mall/McDonalds was the most hospitable and playing Gin Rummy for LITERALLY DAYS. DAYS!!! We ran out of money as we rolled into Vegas and everything went onto my credit card after that. Our van was broken into while we were asleep in Asheville which resulted in yours truly chasing down the thief and getting our merch bags back. Sleeping in Walmart parking lots and watching our sanity drip out our ears the onslaught of hardships were endless. I don’t think any of us would have traded that experience for anything.
2. So we played Plan B in Moncton one night and were graciously put up by a fellow rock and roller. He left his apartment to our care and said “There’s some weed over there if you guys want”. Marc pulled out his high school skills and rolled a phat joint for us to blaze. We got smonked, found an N64 and anticipated a sick night of Goldeneye. Who knows how long we tried to set it up (could have been 5 minutes, could have been 45 minutes) before deciding to watch TV. I think it was Lethal Weapon on TV but again who knows how long it took before we realized we weren’t hearing voices in our heads and that it was an assisted audio program. It was very good weed. The End.

Henry Miller wrote one of the great truths of life when he said “All growth is a leap in the dark, a spontaneous unpremeditated act without the benefit of experience.”
Such a quote could describe bass-and-drums duo Greber, save that with past and present members of Fuck the Facts and The Great Sabatini, they have a great wealth of experience to bring to the table. Inspired by the truly great bands like Neurosis and Propaghandi, but inspired not to slavishly imitate what they have already created, but to forge their own sound, to blaze new trails. To look out at the world that surrounds us and reflect what they see truthfully; as though holding up a mirror to the darkness in the hope of reflecting a glimmer of light.
They truly have gazed into the abyss and put to music what they see there; their music has huge depths and they have none of the limitations that plague so many bands. They truly are their own beast and they truly have their own sound.
Since forming in 2008, Greber has released three well-received full-length albums, four 7″ inch split singles, a split cassette with Minors, and a 4-way split LP with Cell Press, Anthesis, and Botfly along with countless shows across Eastern Canada.
As if they were morphing into a single entity, Drummer Steve Vargas and bassist/vocalist Marc Bourgon have made Greber into their own unique entity, something as important to the duo as food and air.
Now in 2022, Greber will release their new album ‘Fright Without’, with a collaboration between Ancient Temple / Nofuneral (Canada) (Vinyl, CD, Cassette), Hibernation Release (USA) (Vinyl), 7 Degrees / Fresh Outbreak (Europe) (Vinyl) with digital download directly from the band.
