Toronto Grind DEPLETED URANIUM Unleash Video “Origins” – Full Album Live Off The Floor

Toronto’s Depleted Uranium kicked off 2022 with the smashing blunt force trauma known as “Origins”. The album is a fast, aggressive journey with existential lyrics delivered with full-throttle vocals, coupled with technical melodies and harmonies that bring listeners to their bad place. It is meant to obliterate negative energy and make life a better place as everyone has something to scream for or about.

On March 6th of this year, during the end of the Covid lockdowns in Ontario, the band entered their rehearsal space to record a one-take, live-off-the-floor performance of “Origins” from beginning to end. The result is a relentless fury of demon-possessed power, unleashed after years of torment to satisfy the exodus from the hellhound cage. The spoken intro is done by Norbert Suchanek from “The Depleted Uranium Question”.

“”When we decided to record a live performance video of our album Origins (released January 28, 2022), we were still deep in a Covid lockdown. Nowadays, that seems like a distant thing of the past. However back in January 2022, nobody knew when things would actually open up. Even the video recording was delayed due to a member having Covid. The main drive behind the decision to release Origins as a live video performance was due to the lockdown and our urge to perform. As Origins is a prequel album and recorded back in 2010, this video performance is a modern version of the album with a visual representation of the band’s live performance. Alike with the album Origins, this recording was captured in one take, live off the floor with multiple cameras in a controlled environment. We wanted to capture it as raw as possible and to represent our performance aspect as opposed to the production aspect, as we put as much energy into this performance as we do all of our shows. The flame of hope seemed like a distant dream, but now everything is basically back to normal and shows are alive and well. We have been rehearsing for some local shows and working on new material which we hope to have out later this year or early next. We are happy to have the last 2 years behind us and look forward to the next 2 years in front of us!” adds the band.

The video can be viewed and heard via its premiere on IDIOTEQ HERE.

“Origins” is Depleted Uranium‘s history of who they are and where they come from. It is meant to be listened to in reference to their self-titled, debut release; to give a perspective that will also further be referenced in their future releases. Both lyrics and music hold a high tension and are expressed without hesitation. Both are relevant to their time and space of creation and are embodied with existential yet direct meaning. The album as a whole is a statement of youth being dissatisfied with the existing conditions of reality and channeling our experience into what it is today. “If one cannot withstand the hot glow of anger upon the discovery of a wrong, then time is wasted thinking deeply”. Depleted Uranium‘s band name, their lyrics, and their music are a product of the system with the right individuals as the recipe. Their message on Origins” is to strive for personal freedom and to focus on what you want rather than what you don’t.

Loud, technical, and confident, “Origins” is recommended for fans of Converge, Charles Bronson, and Dillinger Escape Plan.

The album was released on January 28, 2022 with the physical CD including an exclusive bonus track.

“It’s raw, dystopian, apocalyptic and there’s no way I’m the only catching vibes of Tool’s “Prison Sex” and Voivod’s “Ravenous Medicine” from the video and Orchid, old Converge, Dystopia and Combatwoundedveteran from the tune (Beta Particles) itself.” – Decibel Magazine

“The music (which could be thought of as a blending of powerviolence and math metal) genuinely sounds insane — furiously so — and yet something about the experience makes sense. Not just because it sounds like people throwing away mental shackles and conventions, but also because the music simultaneously gets its hooks in your head. There’s a sense of order and precision of execution in it, at the same time as it seems completely disruptive of order.” – No Clean Singing

“Aside from grind, you’re getting a decent dose of mathcore, but even more often, the music veers into territory that I think would appeal to screamo fans. These parts are governed by clean-ish, anguished vocals and additionally infused with melancholy by the guitar. While they do the most to define the mood of the album, I’d still hesitate to pigeonhole it, as the band pivots from style to style often enough to give the music a nicely weird, free-form feel. If you’d like a take on the post-nuclear apocalypse that isn’t filled with boring zombies and mutants, look no further.” – Toilet Ov Hell

“All in all, “Origins” pretty much kicked me in the balls and announces that here is a new force to be reckoned with in the grindcore world.” – Wormwood Chronicles

“It’s carnage but carnage you’ll want to experience over and over again.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

Exitus Stratagem Records – AITTALA Reveal Artwork, Track Listing For New Album “Live To Regret” Out November 2022

Exitus Stratagem Records is proud to announce the release of Raleigh, NC’s Aittala (pronounced ‘EYE-tah-la’) for their forthcoming album “Live To Regret” due out November 7th, 2022.

“Live to Regret” follows the band’s 2021’s re-mastered and re-released album “American Nightmare” (originally released 2016) also unleashed on Exitus Stratagem Records.

Crossing many veins of metal genres, Aittala has been known since its existence as a band not to be pigeonholed to one extreme sound. Over their catalog of five previous albums and one ep, they have infused elements of classic heavy metal, doom, progressive, power, thrash, and hard rock with lyrics drawing inspiration from the darker side of the human condition.

Over the years since first forming in 1991, the band has, like many other bands, gone through member changes with today’s lineup solidified by Gary ‘Zeus’ Smith (THE FIFTH, ex-MR BLACKWELL) on drums and Ali Lugo (ex-AGE OF DESPAIR) on bass joining band founder, guitarist and vocalist Eric Aittala.

“Live to Regret” will feature 11 tracks over 40 mins of headbanging metal. The album was written by Eric Aittala during a chaotic time in his life. Not only was it during the height of the lockdowns of the pandemic, but he was also in a very destructive relationship. That mayhem fueled his creativity, both musically and lyrically. In addition to the record’s track listing, it will showcase a reimagined version of the 2011 released industrial-esque track, which will feature real drums and guitars (neither of which the original had) that tells the tale of a serial killer and his obsession, Juliet.

Eric Aittala adds about the new full-length:

“I was constantly walking on an uncertain tightrope and I never knew when it was going to break. I and the rest of the band think the fans will hear the pain and pleasure that went into the creation of this album as well as hear the growth in the songwriting. We hope the fans feel the same pleasure, pain, chaos, and passion that I was going through and infused into the songs when they listen to the album and singles.”

“Live to Regret” was produced by Eric Aittala and John E. Wooten IV, who also mixed the record along with mastering by Dave Harris at Studio B Mastering and album artwork by Mariano Pugliese.

Recommended for fans of Mastodon, Eyehategod, Baroness, Crowbar, and Katatonia, Aittala‘s sixth studio album “Live to Regret” will be available on November 7, 2022, via Exitus Stratagem Records.

About: The music of AITTALA (pronounced ‘EYE-tah-la’) crosses many metal genres; it’s hard to put it into just one category. The sound infuses elements of classic heavy metal, doom, progressive, power, thrash, and hard rock with lyrics drawing inspiration from the darker side of the human condition. The AITTALA sound has been cited for being unique which is no easy feat in the metal genre.

The first version of AITTALA was formed in 1991 while Eric Aittala was living in Holland. With fellow American Tim on vocals and Dutch bandmates Ed (drums) and Jon (bass), the band became a staple of the Dutch metal scene.

With the release of the 3-song EP ‘Selling Heaven’ in summer of 1993, AITTALA opened for such bands as THE GATHERING and SADIST. Unfortunately, as the demo started to create a buzz in the underground European metal scene, Eric had to return to the US and disbanded AITTALA.

Over the next decade or so, Eric played in numerous bands (TRIBE, MAGNETHEAD, DWELL) and lost focus on AITTALA.

Near the end of the 00’s, Eric decided it was time to refocus his efforts on the AITTALA brand. From 2009 to 2016, AITTALA released 4 full-length albums: ‘Bed of Thorns’ (2009), ‘Haunt Your Flesh’ (2011), ‘Effigy’ (2014) and ‘American Nightmare’ (2016). Each album showcasing a natural progression of song writing and lyrical content but retaining the core AITTALA sound and evolving it.

In 2019, AITTALA signed with Curtain Call Records and released the band’s fifth full-length album ‘False Pretenses’. It was ten brand new songs that not only continued the song writing evolution of heavier but catchy songs, but also sonically. AITTALA used an entirely different approach for the recording, mixing and mastering to create the best AITTALA album to date.

The current lineup of AITTALA consists of Gary ‘Zeus’ Smith (THE FIFTH, ex-MR BLACKWELL) on drums and Ali Lugo (ex-AGE OF DESPAIR) on bass.

They continue to write, record and tour to bring AITTALA to the masses with plans in 2022 to unleash their sixth studio album entitled “Live To Regret” to be released by label Exitus Stratagem Records.

“The band’s sound is difficult to pigeonhole because they incorporate a variety of styles. The common element in all the songs is the potent groove. On tracks like “Black Coffin” and “Afterthought” stoner/doom is at the forefront, while songs such as “Disowned” have a more traditional metal vibe. There are progressive influences on “How Much Longer,” while the closer “Debt” is a piano based ballad. Even with so many disparate styles, Aittala bring everything together into a cohesive whole.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“I would describe them as an eclectic Doom Metal band, although their sound is a bit tough to define. That’s ultimately a good thing though, and I enjoy the refreshment of something different. My only major complaint is that on some songs, the vocals and lyrics are so drawn out that they become a little boring and you end up waiting a bit for something cool to happen. The good news is something cool usually does end up happening” – Metal-Temple

“In the metal world, bands can start to sound the same and Aittala steps outside of the box. With clear crisp vocals, grinding rhythms and well executed leads, this band is definitely in a league of their own.” – The Metal Channel

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 1, 2022

Italian Proggers EVEN FLOW To Release New EP “Mediterraneo” October 2022 + Music Video “Ocean Lies”

Italian proggers EVEN FLOW announce they will be releasing their latest EP “Mediterraneo” this coming October 2022. The EP follows their three EPs “Dream Weaver” (2008), “Mother” (2019), and “Flower Paths” (2013), and two albums “Life Has Just Begun” (2017) and “Ancient Memories (2011).

“Mediterreano” sees the band approaching the record with progressive metal in the rhythm with vocal lines oriented towards power metal with AOR eighties influences. Lyrically, the EP speaks of love, hope, sadness, and joy for the future. Guitarist Pietro Paolo Lunesu explains the record in further detail:

“The five songs that make up Mediterraneo are gloriously uplifting anthems that draw you from your world of cares and worries into an exhilarating musical realm of dreams. The songs are concise and finely honed, yet seem to contain an ever-expanding universe to explore within their duration. For example, the title track, ‘Mediterraneo’, is perhaps the EPs crowning glory, building through multiple layers, each more captivating than the last, but in truth every note from the first bombastic chords that usher in opener ‘Ocean Lies’ to the final spiraling guitar solo of ‘Mediterraneo’ is sheer melodic, progressive metal perfection.”

The EP was immaculately mixed and mastered by Michele Guaitoli (Visions Of Atlantis, Temperance) with spectacular artwork by Mickael Briot of Mythrid Art (Nightmare).

“Mediterraneo” also features Even Flow‘s new lineup with vocalist Marco Pastorino (Fallen Sanctuary, Temperance) and bassist Luca Negro (Temperance) joining the Lunesu brothers Pietro Paolo (guitar) and Giorgio (drums).

The band has released their music video for the EP’s opening track “Ocean Lies”, which was the first song written for the record.

“I thought of opening the EP ”Mediterraneo” with Ocean Lies because I considered it the most powerful, but at the same time with a great musical balance characterized by a softer part and a part a bit Latin in the guitar solo section. Lyrically, the song represents at times, the desolation of the world, but at the same time thinking optimistically for the future.” adds Pietro.

The music video for “Ocean Lies” can be seen and heard at https://youtu.be/CL7p2lvkM58

Over the years, since making their debut in 2008 with their EP “Dream Weaver”, Even Flow has done multiple tours across Europe and has supported bands such as Serious Black, Firewind, Eluveitie, Iron Savior, Katatonia, Orphaned Land, Katatonia, Pain Of Salvation among many more.

Due out on October 3rd, “Mediterraneo” is the next majestic level of achievement for Even Flow and is recommended for fans of Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Stratovarius, Angra, and Queensryche.

Montreal’s ETERNAL CLOSURE Presents Lyric Video “Dimensions Apart”

New Album “At the Center of It All – Chapter I” Out Sept 2022 – Produced by Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy)

L-R : Marine Lacarrière (guitar), Phil Lemelin (guitar), Olivier Boitel (guitar, back vocals), Katrine Castonguay (main vocals), Philippe Boitel (drums), Jonathan Lauzon (bass, back vocals)

Montreal’s Eternal Closure have a new album coming out in September and the third single they have ready for fans is “Dimensions Apart” in the form of a lyric video. Since their conception ten years ago, they have been constantly evolving – what started as a metalcore cover band has become a proggy, djenty powerhouse with deep gutturals, piercing cleans, and three guitarists that pummel the listener from all sides. The single is the first time the band utilizes 7-string guitars, lending to extra thickness and variety. Main songwriter and guitarist Olivier Boitel details the track:

“This one was mainly written by bassist Jonathan Lauzon, but had a bit of a different structure initially. It’s more-or-less the sequel to a song from our album “Screaming In Silence” called “Wake Up Dead”. It was also mixed with ideas he had for other songs that were never used. It’s a pretty straightforward banger, with me showcasing my grittier singing. I wrote and recorded the drums which was a lot of fun. Lyrically, it’s about the disconnect between generations that was created in part by technology.”

When it comes to Eternal Closure’s lyrics, Boitel speaks from the heart; they come from a personal place and are rarely about a fictionalized character. Compared to their other albums, there is less storytelling on “At The Centre Of It All – Chapter I”, it is all about how Boitel thinks and feels about different subjects. Presented in two parts, it’s not quite a concept album, but many lyrics and musical ideas are re-used throughout.

With the new addition of vocalist Katrine Castonguay, Eternal Closure is confident they will stand out, with a meaner sound that offers a satisfying listening experience for a wide range of metalheads not just those into core. They boast no filler, just six solid, headbanging tracks. They are recommended listening for fans of Currents, Trivium, and Periphery.

“Dimensions Apart” can be seen and heard via its premiere on NewFuryMedia HERE.

The full album “At The Centre Of It All – Chapter I” comes out on September 23, 2022.

After an intense summer, with many major European Festivals (Hellfest, Pol’and’Rock, Reload), Romania’s Dirty Shirt are offering up a sizzling new music video “Hot for Summer” – https://youtu.be/opWRDfHWV6Q

The video was produced by Vlad Bornuz (Dirty Shirt – Dope-a-Min, E-an-na – Toropeala), and the song was composed by Mihai Tivadar, with lyrics by Mathieu “Boots” di Pilla & Mihai Tivadar, along with audio production by Adrian “Bila” Uritescu (Low5Bass Studio, Deva).

“Hot for Summer is probably the craziest song of the album, a very short song that changes the ambiance constantly. After a very soft and cliché intro, we enter the first chorus in English, kind of a Eurovision style of music with some 80s influences. Then it changes completely, with a Balkan part, followed by a very aggressive metal drop. After that, we go back to the chorus, but this time in Italian to reinforce the Eurovision feeling. Moving along to a marching section, which develops into a Tango part, sang in Italian, that resumes the Balkan melodic line. The song ends in symmetry, recalling the soft intro. Thematically, the song criticizes the mainstream music industry, with how boring these pop summer hits can sound, and with a generally very simplistic and repetitive recipe, which revolves around a financial objective.” adds vocalist Mihai Tivadar.

Dirty Shirt‘s sixth album “Get Your Dose Now!” is a shorter nine-track album, with a little more than 30 minutes, but Dirty Shirt maintains that the listening experience will be very intense, as they combine many influences, and the songs change constantly with complex orchestrations. It was produced by Mihai Tivadar, mixed and mastered by Adrian Bila Uritescu and the album artwork was done by Lia Cucuianu.

Dirty Shirt brings a truly unique live experience, huge energy, huge emotions, and fun, with a scaling lineup based on the performance, which adds a lot of authenticity and a great live sound. The band will continue their European tour in support of “Get Your Dose Now!” with shows in Romania, France, Belgium, and Poland (dates to be announced soon).

Recommended for anyone looking for something interesting and lively, Dirty Shirt is for fans of Twelve Foot Ninja, Dubioza Kolektiv, and Eluveitie.

Montreal, QC – August 31, 2022

Violin Prog Metal CYDEMIND To Release Next Offering “The Descent” November 2022

Sophomore Album Out Nov 4th

L-R – Camille Delage (piano and keyboards), Kevin Paquet (guitars), Olivier Allard (Violin), Nico Damoulianos (Bass), Alexandre Dagenais (Drummer)

Five years following their debut album “Erosion”, Montreal progressive metal group Cydemind announces its return in 2022 with the release of their second installment “The Descent”, available on all platforms on November 4th.

“With Erosion, we were young and were still trying to define our own sound” remembers drummer Alexander Dagenais, “which is why we previously chose producer Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy, The Agonist, Beyond Creation), who had considerable experience under his belt. This time around, the band has made a decision to lean towards self-production. Although we’ve encountered obstacles along the way, as well as significant delays, we couldn’t be prouder of the final product.”

Cydemind will showcase 7 new tracks on an album lasting just under 60 minutes. “With The Descent, we delved into the concept of obsessions and the abysses into which they can plunge the human mind,” says Olivier Allard, violinist.

“The album takes us along one’s descent into hell,” explains guitarist Kevin Paquet. “The first track, Obsessions, acts as an opening. The song contains rhythmic and melodic motifs from each of the tracks on the album. The opening melody acts a bit like the leitmotif of the obsession (whichever it is), returning several times throughout the course of the album. We follow this up with Hoax, a song that incorporates several elements of funk. As hinted by the name of the track, you should not expect the album to respect that tone; on the contrary, the music gradually shifts into something much more sinister and complex.”

The band’s lineup remains the same for this second release: Olivier Allard (violin), Nico Damoulianos (bass guitar), Alexander Dagenais (drums), Camille Delage (piano and keyboards), and Kevin Paquet (guitars)

The album was mixed by Simon L’Espérance (Karcius) and mastered by Tony Lindgren (Fascination Street Studios). The cover art for the album was created by Alexander Dagenais.

The first single and album pre-order will be unveiled during September.

Track Listing:

1. Obsessions – 8:56
2. Hoax – 6:11
3. Breach – 5:00
4. Call Of The Void – 8:25

6. Slumber – 4:30
7. The Last Stone – 12:17
Album Length: 59:06

“Violin metal shredders, Cydemind, has just released a beautiful new video for their “Winter” single, using the gorgeous backdrop of Quebec, Canada. The neo-classical prog track showcases the amazing abilities of this young band on the rise, with captivating hooks that’ll leave you awestruck and hitting up their Bandcamp page for more!” – Metal Injection

“The instrumental band puts the violin front and center, which is strange (if not unheard of) in and of itself. They’ve also released a sweet cover of Vivaldi’s “L’inverno” (“Winter”), from The Four Seasons, which is definitely the first time in the 12+ years of MetalSucks that we’ve had to type that sentence… and they’ve done so when we’re just about a week away from the first day of spring, which was a ballsy decision. And on top of all of that, they made a really, really beautiful video for the track out on the frozen tundras of Québec. Do they have tundras in Québec? Whatever. The video looks really cool. Also, cold. I got mild frostbite just watching it.” – Metal Sucks

“presented what will easily be among the top prog metal albums of the year…” – Metal Underground

“An epic album in every sense of the word” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Cydemind have shown me two things on this debut album: they’re damn good musicians, and they have the ability to write compelling music that sticks with you. ” – Angry Metal Guy

Canadian Grind/Hardcore Duo GREBER (members ex-F*ck The Facts, The Great Sabatini) Announce Tour Dates

New Album “Fright Without” Out September 2022

Editing by Youth and Rust
Left to Right – Steve Vargas – Drums and Vocals, Marc Bourgon – Bass and Vocals

Canadian duo GREBER (members ex-F*ck The Facts, The Great Sabatini) announce they will be hitting the road in September and October (dates listed below) in support of their new and fourth album “Fright Without” due out on September 9th via the following labels: Ancient Temple and Nofuneral for Vinyl, CD, and Cassette in Canada, Hibernation Release for Vinyl in the USA, and 7 Degrees and Fresh Outbreak for Vinyl in Europe.

“Fright Without” is ten tracks written and performed mostly by Steve Vargas (drums/vocals) (The Great Sabatini, BIIPIIGWAN) and Marc Bourgon (bass, vocals) (ex-Fuck The Facts) who are joined on several of the tracks by various musicians. These additions add new dimensions to the tracks, giving the listener more to chew on.

Since forming in 2006, GREBER has come out with an impressive array of albums including multiple splits with a myriad of crushing bands. The powerhouse duo delivers a full sonic assault of grind and hardcore, leveraging the small member count to allow for more flexibility in their writing process. Bourgon, who writes the skeletal structures for the songs, always starts with lyrics – sometimes even just a title. He carries a journal around with him and the fleeting observations that make it in there, are what inspire most of his conceptual content. He says that “we all have this beautiful gift of seeing the world very differently than the next person and I’ve found that capturing those nuanced differences to be both liberating and maddening.”

Bands that are hard to pigeonhole, are the kind of bands that the guys in Greber enjoy and they love that they can do something different and not completely cause anyone to retch. Or CAUSE them to retch in a good way. They are recommended listening for fans of Cult Leader, Primitive Man, and Black Sheep Wall.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – August 30, 2022

Canada’s BLACK PESTILENCE + BLOATED PIG Announce September European Tour (SER, CRO, HUN, SLO, GER, CZ)

Canadian black and death metal brutality will be hitting Europe this September with Calgary’s Black Pestilence and Vancouver’s Bloated Pig teaming up for a blunt tour de force across six countries for eight show dates (more to be announced).

Tour Dates:
15.09. Novi Sad (SER) – Klub Dvorište
16.09. Đakovo (CRO) – Rock Bar King
17.09. Budapest (HUN) – S8 Underground Club
19.09. Postojna (SLO) – Kontejnr
21.09. Mülheim an der Ruhr (GER) – AZ Mülheim
22.09. Aachen (GER) – Lola Paroli
23.09. Schwerin (GER) – The Scotsman Pub
24.09. Mladá Boleslav (CZ) – Fararova Sluj

Black Pestilence is touring in support of their latest and sixth studio record 2020’s “Hail the Flesh”. The album conquered the Canadian Loud Charts at #12 for all of 2020 (earshot) along with much praise from such outlets as Decibel Magazine “fans of Toxic Holocaust, Impaled Nazarene, Municipal Waste, Midnight and Cradle of Filth unconcerned with genre boundaries will enjoy Black Pestilence and we have to say the nail has certainly been hit on the head in that regard. Additionally, fans of image and theatrics will find value in the band’s aesthetic which owes to a collision of black metal, goth rock and Judas Priest’s wardrobe and fashion sense.” and Metal Injection “Hail the Flesh is a nice, quick, in and out style album. There’s no messing around, there’s no overly extended bridges or songs that overstay their welcome. This is a 9-track album that only spans 34 minutes of constant, hard-hitting riffs, blasts, and downright aggressive and dominative vocals.”

No strangers to pushing boundaries, Black Pestilence has been pounding out their signature blend of black metal, punk, and noisemaking across Canada and Europe since 2008. The band has previously toured Europe in 2016 and 2018, which included a performance at the 10 Year Anniversary of Death Fest in Bucharest, Romania.

The trio is stoked to perform live and tour for the first time since the Covid pandemic put things on hold. Their latest album “Hail the Flesh” is their most refined and mature record to date featuring nine blistering tracks with fast drums, angry vocals, and an array of synthesized melodies.

Black Pestilence is for fans interested in Impaled Nazarene, Municipal Waste, and Midnight.

Band: Aittala
Album Title: Live to Regret
Release Date: November 7, 2022
Label: ExSR Records

“Lyrically, the album chronicles a chaotic period of time for members of the band personally as well as the global events happening in parallel. Musically, the songs infuse elements of groove, sludge, traditional, doom and thrash metal but are cohesively woven into the unique Aittala sound.” – Aittala

“Aittala Offer Powerful Pandemic Post-Mortem on ‘Live to Regret’… Stick it on a playlist with Apostle of Solitude, Crowbar, Famyne, and Paradise Lost, with a dash of Slayer for good measure.” – Doomed and Stoned

“One of the best albums for 2022″ – 666MrDoom YouYube Channel

“This platter is heavy melodic ear candy that drips with deep and mesmeric face-melting tones and grinding rhythms.” (Live to Regret) – The Metal Gods Meltdown

That’s ultimately a good thing though, and I enjoy the refreshment of something different.” – Metal-Temple

“In the metal world, bands can start to sound the same and Aittala steps outside of the box. With clear crisp vocals, grinding rhythms and well executed leads, this band is definitely in a league of their own.” – The Metal Channel

“I am not sure how to describe their overall sound. It is certainly dark, doomy at times, but added to it is a thick, sludgy, rhythmic guitar tone that takes on a life of it’s own. Adding depth is Lugo’s bass, which has an old school Metallica feel and the result is something I’ve not heard before. Almost every one of these songs has that metallic, almost industrial sounding groove line which comes through stronger in some songs more than others, but ever present none the less; it lays a foundation for these songs as dense as the darkness itself.” – Rock-N-Review

“Aittala really blends a ton of genres together on this release. The old school metal feel takes people back to their roots of when they started listening to metal in the first place. The doom and blues sounds show the power that riffs can hold and will have your head nodding along with the music. The riffs really set the tone for a dark, fun album.” – Metal Nexus

“It’s not difficult to pin down Aittala’s heavy metal sound. I’m thinking some classic heavy metal like Black Sabbath and then mid-period Metallica, all washed through down-tuned grunge (he started in 1992 after all), with maybe some a stoner or doom metal vibe dropped in. Aittala’s compositions are heavy with large thick riffage and an equally thick bottom end. After this he fills his songs with satisfying traditional, sometimes neo-classical, leads” – Dangerdog

“The mix of Heavy, Power, Stoner, and Doom Metal resulted in a very tasty aural dish” – Thoughts of Metal

“It has a raw, garage band (harkening to when that was a descriptive term, not some app on a computer) charm that certainly makes them a very unique specimen. Their “I play what I want” attitude is evident in every note of each song, which makes it very easy to embrace the energy of the album. For fans of the old school, this album will be a welcome addition to any collection.” – Fuel The Scene

==========================================================

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS:

1. From Aittala’s second album, ‘Haunt Your Flesh’, there’s a song called ‘Human Waste’ which deals with the daily struggles of life, and for years, it a staple as the second song in their set.

At one particular show at a smaller venue, Aittala is about three-quarters into the first song of the set and the band, along with the rest of the crowd based on the reaction on their faces, started to smell a familiar ‘sewer’ smell that kept getting strong. Apparently, someone decided to ‘blow up’ the venue’s bathroom for everyone’s noses to enjoy. Eric comically made light of the situation and it was a fitting segue into the next song….’ Human Waste’

2.  Even though Eric is considered a songwriter by standard definition, he will tell you he’s just the conduit for that combination of words and music to enjoy on this plain of existence at this moment of time by unconsciously interpreting those signals that desire to be a song; the songs essentially write itself through Eric’s vessel.

3.  While the band name is Eric’s last name,  he didn’t intend it to be a band name or suggest using it. The original version of the band in the early 90s had a vocalist, Tim Mannon, and was playing songs Eric had already written. The newly formed band was searching for a name and, as all new bands do, went through hundreds of different names trying to find one that fit the sound. One day Tim said ‘Why not just use Aittala since we’re playing Eric’s songs and the name was ambiguous and doesn’t lend itself to one particular metal genre’. And it stuck.

4.  Right before Aittala went to Europe in 2014, the bassist at the time, Andrew, was prescribed painkillers for an issue he was having. On the first night of the tour, Andrew had no intentions of drinking, but drinking had intentions for him. At some point, someone noticed Andrew hadn’t been seen in a while and he became the subject of a manhunt.  Low and behold, someone found Andrew sitting up on the bus toilet. He was motionless with one eye open and one eye closed. For a brief second, everyone thought the worst, but, luckily he was just passed out.

5.  Aittala was playing a multi-band show.  While hanging out checking out the first band, they see this live wire of a lady running around being crazy.
Ali leaned over to Gary and said “I bet by the 3rd band her shirt is coming off”
No sooner had Ail said that than out came her boobs. Needless to say, they were rather floppy and, when she did put them away, she basically had to roll them up.

After they got done playing and were having dinner and drinks at the bar, she was again shirtless. She basically cornered Ali in his seat and one of her boobs was laying in his chicken Alfredo as she was trying to talk to him. They were pretty sure she had a third-degree burn on her boob from the fresh hot pasta.

The music of AITTALA (pronounced ‘EYE-tah-la’) crosses many metal genres; it’s hard to put it into just one category.

They continue to write, record and tour to bring AITTALA to the masses with plans in 2022 to unleash their sixth studio album entitled “Live To Regret” to be released by label Exitus Strategm Records.

“We think the fans will hear the pain and pleasure that went into the creation of this album as well as hear the growth in the songwriting. I wrote this album during a chaotic time in my life. Not only was it during the height of the lockdowns of the pandemic, but I was also in a very chaotic relationship. That chaos fueled my creativity and both musically and lyrically. I was constantly walking on an uncertain tightrope and I never knew was going to break. We hope the fans feel the same pleasure, pain, chaos and passion that I was going through and infused into the songs when they listen to the album and singles.” adds Eric Aittala.

“Live in Regret” will be available on November 7, 2022.
