A punch in the face is coming right at ya’ in the form of Rockin’ Engine’s new album “The Wretched And The Damned”. This is a follow up to their 2019 album “Midnight Road Rage”.

The lyrics and music of this new full length were inspired by the physical and social destruction evolving in this world in the past few years. The listeners will be able to relate these stories with personal experiences, creating a deeper emotional connection with the songs. The tracks all have a different story but they all revolve around the same concept. The band explains the album in their own words:

“This album truly reflects the evolution in our musical genre and the hard work we all put into this. We decided to follow our roots and do what we love most, pure metal! The concept of this record is to bring the listeners into an emotional roller coaster and connect with our music. The lyrics were written in a storytelling fashion, in a post-apocalyptic metaphor, which places everyone in a chaotic world of injustice and control. The message is for people to unite as one and fight oppression, put aside our differences, and strive for a better life.”

The video for the single “Let It Burn” is literally a verbal attack on everyone responsible for the problems in the world we live in. They are basically saying, with the devil’s perspective, to just let everything burn because at this point, there’s just no coming back to a peaceful world. It is the band’s opening song and the infectious heavy rock will satisfy even the most particular of headbangers.

Watch “Let It Burn” via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

Great chemistry and contagious energy can be found in Rockin’ Engine, they are explosive in their playing and always go full throttle. They are recommended for fans of Pantera, Megadeth, and Slayer.

About:

Based in the Ottawa region, Rockin’ Engine was founded in 2015 by two of their frontmen and lifetime friends, Steve O Leff on vocals and guitars, and Ste Vy Leff on lead guitars. The duo started out as your typical basement players but soon developed to be something way bigger than they anticipated. Later on, the talented Joel Bilodeau was added to the team on drums, showing some amazing skills and imagination with his wicked hard rock background. In 2016, an amazing bassist by the name of Fred Beaulieu joined the group and helped shape the hard hitting sound Rockin’ Engine is known for today.

Playing a wide variety of covers from Motley Crüe to Ozzy Osbourne, Pantera, Iron Maiden and so many more, the band wanted their first show together to be something big. Greatly involved in their community, they then decided to organize a fundraising show to support breast cancer research, and that’s when everything started to expand. Sponsors and several locals decided to join forces with the band to later become great allies for future fundraising activities and several events.

In 2017, Fred Beaulieu parted with the band for family reasons, leaving the other members to wonder what’s next for them. That’s when Nico Rioux came along. This young Ottawa University Law student decided to fill the missing bassist spot for Rockin’ Engine and later became a great asset to the band with his amazing progressive rock vocabulary and creativity like no other. At that moment, the four members commonly decided to create their own music with the sound of so many influences in the metal, hard rock and progressive genres.

After presenting a few of their unreleased compositions in several big events including The Canadian Army Run’s main stage two years in a row, the public’s reaction was so overwhelming that the band decided to release some material on social media to expand their horizons while recording their first full album to be released later this year, Midnight Road Rage. Nico later had to leave the band for professional reasons and was replaced by none other than the beast, JP Buzzard!

To this day, Rockin’ Engine states that the true inspiration for their music remains the love, support and authenticity of their fans, friends and families. The four members take pride in firing up the audience with their charismatic energy and entertaining scenes, convincing everyone that hard rock and heavy metal will never die!

Debut EP Out November 6th

Calgary, Canada’s Arcana are releasing their debut EP this year, the fantastic space rock opera “Letters From A Lost Soul | Act I: The World One Forms”. They are releasing a second single and first music video “Tailwind” from this debut, which takes progressive metal and rich storytelling to a new level.

“Tailwind”  is the love song on the EP that features the heartfelt exchange between protagonist Damian and his wife Hope who long to see each other again and conveys a true sense of always being there for each other but constantly out of reach. Hope is like the sun to Damian; his guiding light to find his way home.

With lyrics that truly focus on storytelling, they take a look at the effects of tragedy and what drives human action and emotion. There is a lot of inspiration for the story from sci-fi concepts and mythology. As explained by the band in their own words:

“Tailwind is a very stripped-down track. I wanted it to feel like your standard 4 or 5 piece rock band (singer, guitarist, bassist, drums, keys) in contrast to the other tracks on this album which can get up into the 20 individual instrument range. I have been trying to write one more contemporary/pop-like track per album and I believe this encompasses that wish extremely well. It’s upbeat, quick, and it feels like you can dance to it. It is still rhythmically technical but it hides it in the 4/4 time and the drive that pushes the sound forward throughout.”

Arcana springs forth from the mind of Rogan McAndrews who developed the concept for the band and the story it was made to tell. He gathered a number of highly trained musicians from different backgrounds from jazz and rock to contemporary and classical and several vocalists to play the parts of the characters.

Recommended for fans of Caligula’s Horse, Leprous, and Coheed and Cambria, “Letters From A Lost Soul | Act I: The World One Forms” is a thoughtful and ambitious prog metal journey.

The music video for “Tailwind” can be seen and heard via its premiere on SonicPerspectives HERE.

Extreme Metal Music: Thanatopsis Streaming Title Track Off Upcoming Album “Initiation”

“Initiation” Out October 23rd, 2020 via Extreme Metal Music

California’s Thanatopsis have unleashed the title track off their upcoming debut album “Initiation” due out October 23, 2020 via Extreme Metal Music to follow their four independently released demos between 1993-1997.

The band comments about the song:

“The title track of the album, a banger of a song made for headbanging, with technical elements as well. From hidden cults to overt street violence, this song details the initiation into a gang connected to the cult, by means of shooting human targets. Once again, an infiltration ensues.”

Listen to “Initiation” on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music.

After a hiatus, 3/4 of the band has reunited along with the new addition of drummer Jason Borton (Jungle Rot, Arkaik) to offer their debut full-length, which features past recordings that are given a second life and a chance to be heard by a broader audience along with new unheard material. The album was recorded at Trident Studios with renowned producer Juan Urteaga (Exodus, Testament, Machine Head).

The overall album experience shares eight old school thrash/death metal influenced tracks that are an emotionally twisted ride of violently catchy brutality. With themes that include corruption, occultism, murder, revolt, and loss of faith, Thanatopsis delivers an album that keeps the listener engaged from start to finish, with a sound unlike any other.

The band comments:

“It has been a long time in the making and we are very excited to present to the world the first official full-length Thanatopsis album “Initiation”. This album contains timeless songs that fans, both old and new, will appreciate. Bringing our sound to the masses has been a collective dream of ours for a long time. In a scene that is saturated with bands, we are proud to release something that is unique in character to the metal world at large.”

“This new song definitely has a strong and very tasty old-school flavor. It’s a sinister, high-octane death metal rush right out of the gate, but the song really reaches escape velocity at about the 2:00 mark when guitarist David Couch launches a jaw-dropping guitar solo over a memorable melody. – No Clean Singing (Reviewing the song “Your Demise”)

Five years ago Toronto’s Earth’s Yellow Sun released their sophomore EP “The Infernal Machine”. Now to celebrate the anniversary of that EP, they are re-releasing the tracks in the form of animated videos. The band has unleashed three videos over the last two months, “Part I – Assembly”, “Part II – Unveiling” and “Part III – Betrayal”. Today, the band unveil their fourth video for the track “Part IV – Bastion”, continuing the next chapter of their illustrated story.

The band explains the track:

“Part IV – Bastion: Our human civilization faces a massive onslaught and many deaths brought on by this mechanized terror that they’ve unleashed on themselves.  They are forced to retreat into remote areas and regroup for a hail mary last-ditch effort at bringing down the machine that has only brought them violence and destruction.”

The animated video for “Part IV – Bastion” can be viewed HERE.

“Part III – Betrayal” HERE.
“Part II – Unveiling” HERE.
“Part I – Assembly” HERE.

Earth’s Yellow Sun‘s concept EP “The Infernal Machine” is the perfect soundtrack to these videos, the premise lying in a futuristic society, the dependency on technology and artificial intelligence, and the conflict that arises between man and machine. Guitarist Josh Hanff shares his excitement for this project:

“The release in question, The Infernal Machine was actually released exactly five years ago, but we are releasing this comic book video concept for the five-year anniversary.  The project has been in the works between myself and a couple of artists since the actual EP was completed, and we’re really excited to be able to finally show our fans (and potential fans) the story behind the music, which was always in my mind (and my co-producer’s mind) as we created the EP back in 2014/2015. “

An incredible mix of guitars, saxophone, choir, violins, and a heavy rhythm section, Earth’s Yellow Sun is difficult to label yet easy to enjoy. Recommended for fans of Periphery, Dream Theater, and Animals as Leaders.

About:

Difficult to Label; Easy to Enjoy

We are Earth’s Yellow Sun, an instrumental band hailing from Toronto, Canada. While often described as “progressive metal”, you’ll quickly find that it’s not so simple to label us – our unique approach to writing music is unlike anything you’ve heard before. Blending a crushingly heavy rhythm section with soaring melodic saxophone lines and funky organ pads, Earth’s Yellow Sun is like the love child of Periphery and Snarky Puppy that you didn’t know you needed in your life.

Our most recent release “Under the Covers” features our cover arrangements of three songs from vastly different corners of the musical world, featuring collaborations with some talented vocalists. From the progressive rock realm, we cover Rush’s “Overture 2112/The Temples of Syrinx”, featuring the incredible Rody Walker of Protest the Hero. From jazz territory, we cover pianist Tigran Hamasyan’s instrumental rhythmic mind-bender “Entertain Me”. And from the pop world, we cover the Backstreet Boys hit “Larger Than Life”, featuring the vocals of Lauren Babic of Red Handed Denial.

As an instrumental band, we rely on our music to convey our stories. Our sophomore release “The Infernal Machine” is a concept record that chronicles a futuristic society’s dependence on technology and artificial intelligence, and the ensuing conflict between man and machine. The creation of this EP saw us venture further into experimental territory, incorporating unconventional instrumentation such as violin, choir, and tabla into sound.

Earth’s Yellow Sun was initially conceived in 2014, while we were attending Humber College’s music program. After bonding over our mutual interest in heavy progressive music, and our shared desire to write innovative music of our own, we formed a school ensemble where we first toyed with the idea of incorporating saxophones into a metal band. This experiment proved to be a great success, and Earth’s Yellow Sun rose from the ashes of the school ensemble once classes came to an end.

Our unique and eclectic sound allows us to fit into a variety of different concert bills. Since our live debut in 2015, we have been fortunate enough to share the stage with several notable acts, including Between the Buried and Me, Protest the Hero, Intervals, Intronaut, Plini, Thank You Scientist, Moon Tooth, Auras, and Red Handed Denial. We greatly look forward to returning to the stage as soon as we can, bigger and better than ever.

Mournful And Meandering, Canada’s Uncle Woe Reveal Second Album “Phantomescence”

Premiere First Single “Become The Ghost” via TheSludgelord

Canada’s Uncle Woe brings you a contemplative, progressive doom album “Phantomescence” that was completely conceived and recorded in pandemic induced isolation. The opening track/lead single, “Become The Ghost” is a meandering exploration of death and dreams.

“Phantomescence” deviates from the first Uncle Woe album as the band moves forward from a solo studio project. It is an easily digestible, logical next step in the band’s evolution; elements, which made the first LP, “Our Unworn Limbs”, engaging and intriguing are present again on this offering; expanded upon, polished, and moderately better produced. The new album deals with death in a much broader and less personal sense, and also contains a lot of abstract, dream sequence type elements.

Currently, as a two-piece, Rain Fice and Nicholas Wowk worked on their parts separately, shared them online and managed to pull off the second album from the band. Fice details the intricacies of the single:

“Become The Ghost is almost relentless in its forward, mid-tempo, stomping march. The first chorus comes as a very small, simple 3/4 breather, in the midst of the opening/verse riff’s endless churning and revolving 11/4 and 15/4 riff. The vocals throughout are rough, and finally build to a scream in that last, closing verse. After the death of someone very near to me, I remember a feeling of loss so great that it seemed that even though THEY had died, I was the one who became a ghost if that makes sense; a ghost, or shadow, or shell.”

Many chugging, bludgeoning passages are offset by expansive and contemplative, subdued, almost post-rock soundscapes, making Uncle Woe suitable for fans of Yob, Chrome Ghost and Deftones.

“Become The Ghost” can be heard via its premiere on TheSludgelord HERE.

The full album “Phantomescence” is due out October 23rd via Packard Black Productions and available for digital, CD and vinyl pre-order HERE.

Track Listing:
1. Become The Ghost (6:29)

About:

Hailing from the oft frozen hills of rural Canada, Uncle Woe is a phantom limb, wielding a bludgeoning tool against mostly true tales of bittersweet sorrow, revenge, and regret.

The bleak desolation of Bancroft, Ontario spawned Uncle Woe in 2019 when Rain Fice grew weary of floundering in non-committed projects and instead dove into songwriting mode with a rough idea of his ideal sound and started carving out what would become the first Uncle Woe LP “Our Unworn Limbs”.

After the album was released in 2019 and started to pick up some buzz, a full band began to form. However, the pandemic was not far off and the band whittled down to a 2 piece. Before lockdown began, Uncle Woe managed to lock down the rough elements of what would become the second album “Phantomescence”, Fice expanded on them, and after being fed to drummer Nicholas Wowk, and recording remotely, the album was complete: a meandering exploration of death and dreams. Many chugging, bludgeoning passages are offset by expansive and contemplative, subdued, almost post-rock soundscapes.

As Uncle Woe begins to hit their stride, fans can look forward to the band putting out music pretty much indefinitely, plans are in motion for a third album already.

The band’s second album “Phantomescence” will be available digitally, CD, and on vinyl on October 23rd via Packard Black Productions.

“The lone member (although it does seem as if drummer Nicholas Wowk has been added to the band) Rain Fice has created a truly wondrous journey through pure doom lands into that astral, transcendental other place doom of the aforementioned Yob that gives you goosebumps with its completely distressing doom metal. Fice’s clean echo-drenched vocals are also of very high quality, while not actually sounding like Mike Scheidt, Fice does exude a similar aura of supreme enlightenment and complete mastery of his art.” – Verbal Aggression

“Never be afraid to take a chance on a new name. This one comes to us from Ontario and was released earlier in the month, though I’m just now getting around to hearing it. I was pretty damned impressed and count UNCLE WOE in the same company as Domkraft, Spaceslug, Chrome Ghost, and Slomatics. Some damned good doom with crunchy low end and transcendent vocals. Count it among the #HeavyBest19” – Doomed & Stoned

“Chugging, sprawling, and most of all reaching, the late-2019 debut LP, Our Unworn Limbs, from Ontario as-yet-solo-outfit Uncle Woe — composed, performed, and recorded by Rain Fice — is one of marked promise, taking elements of modern progressive and cosmic doom from the likes of YOB’s subtly angular riffing style and unfolding them across an emotionally resonant but still manageable 43-minute span.” – The Obelisk

Set to unleash their new album “Ascend To The Throne” on Friday, July 10th via Head Rattle Productions INC., Vancouver’s Saints of Death are sharing with fans its full stream ahead of its official release.

For fans of Pantera, DevilDriver, and Arch Enemy, Saints of Death’s “Ascend To The Throne” is the double bass attack you need to listen to now via its premiere today on MetalInsider.net HERE.

“Ascend To The Throne” is a 7 track ripping and cohesive album and the second in the Saints of Death repertoire following the 2015 self-titled EP. With a different lineup than the debut effort, Saints of Death now boasts a more robust group that is tighter, more aggressive, and more melodic than ever before along with still featuring their signature sound of having two bassists.

The band comments:

“This album has been a long time coming, and we cannot wait to get it into the ears of our fans. After dealing with line up issues for a few years, we finally have a solid line up and are back to kicking ass. The current line up has been together since 2018 and we have really gelled as friends and as band members. Naturally, with this kind of chemistry going on, it was finally time to record a new album.

Like the first EP, there is diversity between each song, allowing each of them to stand out as hard-hitting singles. There is also the consistency that allows the songs to come together as a great album. We talk about important topics such as the trials of society, corruption and corporate greed, mental health as well as a few other topics on this album. Saints put a lot of hard work and passion crafting this album and making it what it is and we cannot wait to show the world!”

Loud and crushing, Saints of Death has been evolving over the years and they are looking forward to what the future has in store for them. Comprising tracks that the band has wanted to release for a long time, it has been a waiting game until the right guys were in line to bring them to fruition. Now, the wait is now over and Saints of Death is primed to kick some ass!

On Friday, July 10th, cinematic rock metallers Alizarin will be releasing their sophomore album “The Last Semblance”. Unlike their strictly instrumental debut record “Cast Zenith” (2018), this next release features prominent vocals throughout from guitarist Josh Kay. Rich harmonies and baritone resonance from Kay’s voice add a new dimension to the music, allowing the band’s sound to expand to truly uncharted territory.

The album covers a wide spectrum of sonic landscapes and emphasizes the melodic journey over deliberate technique. Although vocalist and guitarist Joshua Kay is the chief songwriter of Alizarin, the compositions on the new record focus on a balance from each instrument, with less of an emphasis on the domination of guitar solos and a greater exploration of what each musician is capable of. Drawing influence from such groups as Porcupine Tree, Haken, Alice in Chains, Opeth, Portishead, and many more, the result of Alizarin‘s sound is one that is challenging to define, pensive, and often at the crossroads of melody and dissonance.

Today, before the album’s official release, the band has teamed up with SonicPerspectives for the full stream premiere of “The Last Semblance” HERE.

Kay adds:

“We are extremely excited and proud to present our new album ‘The Last Semblance’, a record that defies the expectations of modern progressive music and offers something for every listener. This music takes our brand of cinematic metal we began on our debut record and expands upon it in every single way. Rich and dramatic compositions, unorthodox chord progressions, lush vocals and harmonies, and compelling melodies abound on our new album. We wanted to stand out from our peers and offer something that will be immediately memorable and captivating, yet will continue to reveal new layers of depth upon every listen.”

“The Last Semblance” will be available on Bandcamp (CD and Digital), Spotify, and Apple Music.

Born out of the forward-thinking inclinations of guitarist/vocalist Josh Kay in late 2017, Alizarin is on a mission to explore unconventional rock music. In addition to Kay, the Los Angeles based group consists of Jon Damon on drums, Terran Fernandez on bass guitar and Avelino Ramirez on keyboard.

“in a musical world swollen with progressive bands, Alizarin is a welcome and refreshing alternative, and and The Last Semblance an entertaining listen. Recommended. 4/5” – Dangerdog Music Reviews

“ALIZARIN play scintillating prog-metal and create a sonic soundscape.” – RAMzine

“While some of the material is more fitting to be described as “cinematic rock” due to the instrumental muzak feel of the songs’ structure, this album possesses the punch of a Dream Theater release and the momentum of a King Crimson record.” – Metal Injection (Album Review – Cast Zenith)

Prior to unleashing their fourth studio album “The Last Extinction” this past May, Montreal melodic death metal quintet [EVERTRAPPED] shared the music video for the single “Sorrow (Nothing More In Between)”. Today, the band is showing fans the behind the scenes shooting of the video, which was filmed at the top of a high rise building in downtown Montreal during a very hot and humid day.

Watch the band’s endurance during the “Making of Sorrow (Nothing More In Between)” HERE.

The music video for “Sorrow (Nothing More In Between)” can be viewed HERE.

[Evertrapped]’s new album “The Last Extinction” is also being offered by the band for download on Bandcamp for only $1 HERE along with it available on Spotify and Apple Music.

Released on May 22, 2020, “The Last Extinction” is a mix of the band’s sound that was defined on “The Anomaly” (2012) and “Under The Deep” (2015). With influences ranging from death metal to melodic death primarily, along with some classic thrash and speed metal, which explains their technicality and diversity sonically, the album overall will give fans a very heavy post-apocalypse feel. It’s meant to mix the dark and light of the end of all things. Fans of Arch Enemy, Persefone, Whitechapel, Death, and Fleshgod Apocalypse will feel the whirlwind of aggression.

Vocalist James Brookes adds:

“The album overall has a very heavy post-apocalypse feel. It’s meant to mix the dark and light of the end of all things. For example, how the end would bring about great darkness so to speak in our minuscule occupied area of the universe, but at the same time it brings about this unexpected sense of bittersweet relief. Some songs are more down to earth in their subject matter but none the less written in an abstract way, whereas others take a more third-person look at this apocalyptic feel from a universal standpoint. I suppose the genre of the lyrics would be an equal mix of science fiction, fantasy, and dystopia.”

Since 2007, [Evertrapped] has brought together their collective experience from the Montreal metal scene to create their heavy brand of melodic death metal. The guitarists Frederick Dupuis (ex-Daggerfalls) and Vincent Benoit hammer out raw guitar while drummer Eric Lemire (ex-Apocalypsys, ex-Ice Castle) pummels the drums. Their versatile frontman James Brookes (ex-Ammonia, ex-One Final Moment, Continuum) easily alternates between strong clear vocals and low bellowing screams giving listeners the illusion of more than one vocalist. John Yates (ex-AraPacis) weaves together each song with his driving bass lines to keep the energy of the punishing track at an all-time high.

Their lyrics come from two places. One from the dark and exaggerated metaphors for things actually based on personal events. The other is lyrics that are only loosely based in reality and have an almost fantasy-like appeal. Sometimes the reality can be based on what could be the actual state of the world as it is or an image of a future where the world is on the brink of an apocalypse. The overall idea is that the lyrics are not meant to be understood at face value in any way. It’s an art form that’s open to interpretation by the listener.

Track Listing:
1. Sorrow (Nothing More In Between) (7:35)
2. Truth Behind Disorder (5:30)
3. Across The Disease (5:49)
4. Titan (5:52)
5. The First Machine (5:59)
6. The Last Extinction (6:10)
7. Illusion (7:08)
8. Stillborn Era (5:26)
9. Learning To Kill (7:52)
Album Length:  57:24

“If you’re looking for some heavy Lamb Of God vibes, heavier than the newer Lamb Of God has to offer, this is the band you’ve been needing in your life. The main chunk of the song(Sorrow (Nothing More In Between)) is straight to the point heavy metal. Harsh, aggressive, and ready to go.” – Metal Injection

“Canada’s Evertrapped show mainstream appeal to their music and come out with an aggressive, yet melodic mindset on their 4th release. The songs are alternative metal in nature and feature an accessible sound. They are abrasive in an almost hardcore manner, but manage to be simplistic at the same time. The Last Extinction is pleasing to listen to, but heavy enough to have a more metallic appeal… Evertrapped should appeal to a variety of music fans.” – Heavy Music Headquarters“The Canadian band needs very little time to demonstrate their interpretation of melodic extreme metal. Unlike the polished styles of the subgenre, this is a bit nastier, more rambunctious, with a certain groove/thrash anger. It is melodic extreme metal but with a grimy, dirty street anger or toughness.” – The Metal Bulletin

“The fourth album from [Evertrapped] will charm a lot of people who are into melodic death metal.” – Grimm Gent

” These guys cover several bases sonically at the same time, giving them an edge – and an unexpected addition to my summer listening!” 100 Percent Rock

Montreal, QC – June 26, 2020

For fans of Motley Crue, Guns and Roses, Skid Row (old records), Breaking Benjamin

Canada’s SVEN GALI Premiere Music Video “Now” via Bravewords

New EP “3” Out Now via RFL Records

25 years in the making, Canada’s SVEN GALI released their highly anticipated EP entitled “3” earlier this month on June 12th via RFL Records. Known for their fusion of 80s screaming hard rock and 90s blazing metal along with extensive touring worldwide where they have shared the stage with legends such as April Wine, Foreigner, Pearl Jam, and Def Leppard, Sven Gali‘s new EP is their long-awaited follow up to 1995’s “In Wire” and 1992’s gold-selling and Juno Award-nominated self-titled debut album released on BMG Music Canada that featured hits “Under The Influence” and “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore”.
In support of the release, the band has teamed up with Bravewords for the premiere of their new music video “Now”.Drummer Dan Fila adds:

“‘Now’ showcases the band’s raw live energy and chemistry. The video is soaked in attitude and ferocity – the same that made Sven Gali a staple in the global hard rock scene 30 years ago.”

Watch the video HERE.

“3” features previously released singles “Kill The Lies” (2018) and “You Won’t Break Me” (2019) both produced by David Bendeth (Paramore, Breaking Benjamin, Bring Me The Horizon) along with new tracks “Now” and “Hurt” produced by Jon Howard (Threat Signal), and marks the return of one of Canada’s favourite bands.

Vocalist Dave Wanless comments:

“This is Dave from Sven Gali.  After 25 years of laying low, we are back in the game with our new EP “3”.  The disc showcases our musical influences and is a genuine representation of who we are as a band and as people now.  Sven Gali is and always has been a rock band – in your face, full throttle, attitude, and passion.  Making this record without the pressures of a major label looking over our shoulders was liberating – we did what we wanted for ourselves.  We hope that people dig in, but at the end of the day, we did this record because we love making music together, and we did it exactly how we wanted to.”

Returning to begin the next chapter of SVEN GALI, the band is here to stay and take on the 00s, which has been very evident with sold-out Canadian shows during 2018 and 2019, with a promise once the world overcomes the COVID 19 pandemic to continue to play solo and festival dates in North America, Europe and beyond.

“3” is available on digital platforms from RFL Records HERE and CD HERE.
Track Listing:
1. Kill The Lies (3:38)
2. You Won’t Break Me (3:40)
3. Now (4:59)
4. Hurt (3:10)
EP Length: 15:28

Dave Wanless – Vocals
Andy Frank – Guitars
Shawn Minden – Bass

“3 is full of heavy, chugging riffs and howled choruses, mixing the melodies of ’80s hard rock with the aggression of ’90s metal.” – Exclaim!

“The time is now for Sven Gali to rock our world once again, with their short and sweet brand new EP being a solid statement that although the band might have been gone for a while, they still have a lot of fuel to burn in the name of Rock N’ Roll.” – The Headbanging Moose

“It’s a banger and a return befitting of their iconic status in the metal.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Of course, 3 leaves you wanting more. Maybe it’s a teaser for more stuff to come from Sven Gali? ” – Boston Rock Radio

“I was super excited to be given the opportunity to review 3. I remember picking up their debut album when it was first released and being blown away then. In 2020, I have been reminded of that overwhelming feeling. The songs are extremely well written and do not sound dated at all. When June 12th rolls around, grab yourself a copy of this killer EP.” – I’m Music Magazine

July Will Feel Cold WINTER NIGHTS With The Release Of New Self-Titled Album

Premiere First Single “When December Burns” via GhostCultMag

Efrain Farfan – Back up Vocals and Guitar, Jeremy Farfan – Vocals and Guitar

New York’s Winter Nights have a new album slated for release July 31st, and the mainstays of the local scene are amped to be showing fans the result of years of hard work.

The self-titled album comes after the 2014 release “An Endless Apocalypse” and brings with it, more dreary lyrics and melodic metal music. The album was recorded between 2015 and 2018 at Atomic Sound in Brooklyn, New York. When asked how they expect fans to respond to the new work, they respond:

“Well, very well. We’ve once again offered something different than our previous work. We are looking to conjure the feeling of dread, and remembrance. We hope they can relate to it in one way or another.”

The first single from the album is “When December Burns”, which according to the band is about the idea of being taken over by an emotion, an entity if you will, disconnecting from society.

Vocalist / guitarist Jeremy Farfan elaborates:

“When this song was written it was meant to be a super-fast almost thrash death type of vibe. one rehearsal, lead guitarist Efrain busted out with a tapping lick that resonated through our studio. it was then we knew this song had to have a certain harmonic feeling. taking the tempo down and accenting on the tapping lick, we built something new to us and what feels like the next step of the band. The idea behind this song is self-immolation (death by setting oneself on fire). Through the album, we explore various ways of offing yourself so to speak. It stems from a dream Lead singer Jeremy had where he climbed to the top of a tall hill, turned back to see the world burning, and decided to go out in flames as well. As usual, though, he wakes up right before he loses consciousness. He remembers to this day the burning feeling creating bliss”

The primary themes in the album relate to the feeling of being stuck on the idea of death. The lyrics are a sort of metaphor of losing someone and / or taking your own life for one purpose or another.

For fans of Kalmah, Death, and Amon Amarth, the single is premiering via GhostCultMag HERE.

The self-titled album debuts on July 31, 2020 and is available for pre-order here.

1. When December Burns (5:47)

About:
Winter Nights is a four-piece melodic death metal band emanating from Brooklyn, New York in the winter of 2007. The sound and lyrical themes of their music portray loss, pain, grievance, and darkness.

Guitar driven melodies evoke visceral reactions to the mythic end of the world. They are an integral part of the thriving New York metal scene. As of 2020, their formation consists of dueling guitar brothers Jeremy and Efrain Farfan who also cover vocals, bassist Martin Tune and drummer James Yarusinsky.

The two Farfan brothers came up with the idea for the band after a New Years’ toast and after recruiting a friend they started writing music together and the rest is history. Trading endless amounts of riffs the Farfan brothers devise the majority of the music before presenting it to the rest of the band to be beefed out in the rehearsal studio.

Mainly inspired by nature, places of travel. different scenery. Jeremy gets his ideas from places he’s traveled such as the cliffs of northern Ireland, catacombs of Montreal, nighttime canals of Venice, and the eerie silence of Central Park at night.

Playing with similar bands such as Kalmah, Belphegor, and Insomnium, and on festivals including Maryland Folkfest and Poconos Folkfest, Winter Nights is a mainstay in the New York metal underground. With personal influences rooted primarily in metal, the members of Winter Nights make provocative, despairing, genuine songs. In 2008 they released a self-titled demo EP, followed by another EP “From Darkness Till Dawn” in 2011, and a full length “An Endless Apocalypse” in 2014. 2020 brings a new self-titled album due out July 31st.

“‘Encounters of the Frozen North’ has a lot of thundering, jolting power along with some killer riffs and a dark, somewhat Eastern-influenced melody that worms its way into your head. The music is capped by jagged, tyrannical vocals that make a powerful impact and by a serpentine solo that underscores the reptilian menace lurking within the song.” – No Clean Singing

“The floor of the venue was already seething with eager humanity as local opening act Winter Nights took the stage to kick things off. Sometimes the warm-up acts accomplish little more than to give fans a chance to hit the merch stands or catch up with friends, but the creative vision of Jeremy and Efrain Farfan demanded attention with their tight, more brutal take on Melodic Death Metal. Harsh vocals combined with technical playing and some ultra-melodic guitar leads kept fans engaged and cheering after each song. Winter Nights has been around since 2007, having recently released full-length album An Endless Apocalypse in July of last year. Something like Grave and Amon Amarth meets mid ’90’s Carcass with some mosh-inducing breakdowns defines their sound, with the highlight of the set being the killer “Doomsday Code” and “Deceptive Dreams.”” – Cryptic Rock (Live Review 2015 opening for Dark Tranquility)

“With a distinct Scandinavian flair, but coupled with a bit of the ole US brutality, theirs is a nice melding of catchy older melodic death metal here (read: no watered down pop choruses or the like). “The Doomsday Code” is the cut of choice, with it’s all out thrashy approach that is sure to get the adrenaline pumping and features a solid solo towards the end and even touches upon some black metal influences as well. There’s plenty here that should appeal to fans of anything from Amon Amarth, Arsis, or Dark Tranquillity” – Dead Rhetoric (Album Review 2014 – An Endless Apocalypse)

“a strong debut. The album highlights the bands strong points and shows they can be both intense, brutal and then melodic at just the right moments. It will be interesting to see how they evolve in the coming year. Be sure to listen to their previous demo releases and support them at a venue near you.” – Artemortifica (Album Review 2014 – An Endless Apocalypse)

“The diversified riffs are once more the proof for the skills of WINTER NIGHTS. Very professional and dedicated recording. I can only recommend “An Endless Apocalypse“ to each Metalhead!” – Battlepig (Album Review 2014 – An Endless Apocalypse)

“This band may hail from the streets of NYC, but after listening to this album I’m convinced Winter Nights sailed here from Scandinavia in a giant ship to claim New York as their raiding territory!” – Up From The Underground Reviews (Album Review 2014 – An Endless Apocalypse)
