“”Sky On Fire” switches gears from the previous track on the EP “Apex Predator”, beginning with acoustic guitars, melodious vocal lines, and soft instrumentation. The latter half of the “Sky On Fire” turns up the energy as the guitars are distorted, the vocals rise in volume, and a dramatic, wrenching climax is reached. The song also features a string section during its closing chorus. The drum skins were covered with paper during recording to achieve a ‘muted’ sound, appropriate for the song’s melancholic vibe.”

“Speak True Evil is a showcase for Kill No Albatross’ dynamic, technically proficient, intellectual approach to rock music. These four songs cover musical ground that ranges from furious to sweet, hopeful to agonized. The powerful vocals of Kyle Collins pair with the tight, impassioned instrumentation to create a unique sound that is as meticulous as it is robust. Going more in depth on the release, it plays off the title of Wayne Shorter’s 1966 jazz record “Speak No Evil”; “Speak True Evil” asserts the legitimacy of free speech as asserted by thinkers like Mill, Paine, Luxemburg, and Hitchens. As Mill writes, ‘If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.’ After all, it is as much the right of the listener to hear as it is the speaker to talk – enforced silence imprisons man in the cage of his own perspective. The title, then, encourages listeners to speak true evil.”

It’s a tribute to the diversity and creativity of the metal genre that a band can still come up with a totally new inspiration for their music. Such a band is MONGOL!

Hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, MONGOL’s folk metal is inspired by the ancient Mongolian Empire, which was the largest land empire in history, at various times it included China, Korea, Mongolia, Persia (now Iran), Turkestan, and Armenia. It also included parts of Burma, Vietnam, Thailand, and Russia. This Empire increased contacts between people; and enabled the introduction of such innovations as paper, the compass and gunpowder. It is no exaggeration to say the Mongolian Empire helped shape the modern world.

Now, MONGOL stand poised to unleash their latest album ‘The Return’, inspired by an ancient Mongolian prophecy of the return of Genghis Khan, Lord of All the People Dwelling in Felt Tents, from his grave. In the album, on seeing the sorry state of the world today, Genghis seeks to remake it as the New World Khanate.

Inspired by Kalmah, Wolfchant, Falconer, Dimmu Borgir, lead guitarist Luke Barry (Zev) describes MONGOL’s sound as “melodic, eclectic, diverse, genre-defying, epic!”

As he explains. “We derived the band name, Mongol, from the fierce warriors of the Mongolian Steppe. To draw inspiration we have watched Mongolian films and read their oldest text “The Secret History of the Mongols” and other source material. In addition to this we have traveled to Mongolia and spent some time there, which was a great wellspring of inspiration.”

Live, MONGOL resembles the warriors that inspired them, “bringing a unique energy to the stage that showcases our vast spanning sound perfectly. When the crowd isn’t banging their heads to one of our heavier songs, they are dancing joyously or clinking their beers with brethren in the mosh pit, singing along to catchy melodic choruses!”

“The Return” is due out via Sliptrick Records on October 5th, 2018.

Since climbing out of a volcano in 2008, shrouded in metal and ash, Lords of the Trident have gone to battle on many stages across the USA, playing and headlining a plethora of festivals and have an admirable arsenal of recordings in their inventory. A very ambitious band passionate about writing and playing extreme music, Ottawa ON’s OMINOUS ECLIPSE draws their inspiration from a wide variety of genres to create a unique hybrid sound with death metal being the main aspect combined with elements of thrash, groove, black, melodic, etc. Active since 2014, OMINOUS ECLIPSE has been making waves on the local scene opening for names such as Revocation, The Agonist, Kalmah, Archspire, Incantation, Vesperia, Beyond Creation, Rivers of Nihil to name a few. In the same year of their conception, they unleashed a four song EP “Beyond The Apocalypse” with a full length “End Of Days” following not long after in 2015. Now in 2018, they return with their sophomore album “Sinister” due out September 14th.

“There’s no concept or theme on this album so all the songs have different meaning. The title track itself divulges into the inevitable end to humanity and potentially the world with it. It discusses the issues around the globe and also addresses the ignorance and selfishness of those indirectly affected by the chaos. It has a strong “United We Stand, Divided We Fall” theme in regards to how people can turn their backs on those in need in order to save their own skin, which ironically will lead to our end as it causes people to turn on each other. Musically for this album, you will notice we have evolved from the first release and have moved away from thrashy overtones to become more diverse including more heavily stated melodic and technical with a solid groove and death foundation.”

PureGrainAudio.com announces their new mixed-media art series “Epilogue” presented by artist Damon Kardon. The art series honors classic horror/sci-fi films and the creative promotional art that was presented to the public at the time of their premiere dates. All of these films represented in this art series are celebrating a milestone anniversary of their release and the impact they have made in pop culture history. Artist Damon Kardon has chosen specific films that influenced him over the years through their distinct tone, cinematography and direction. He is expressing his emotions felt from viewing each film through his art process of painting key images and colors that also represent the story of each film. Each poster design starts as a painting and then is manipulated in photoshop.

Kardon comments:

“As a kid who loved going to the movies and also enjoyed the classic painted poster designs of Drew Struzan, I dreamed of bringing my art style into the world of interpretive movie posters. The term “Epilogue” in film represents the final scenes in which a recap or narrative of what happens to the characters is given. It can be represented in a montage, which is how I interpret these works I’m creating.”

Unleashing their new EP “Disobey” today on July 6th via Extreme Metal Music, a subsidiary of Rockshots Records, El Paso, TX’s NOT MY MASTER are sharing with fans their new music video “Acadence” via Decibel Magazine in celebration of its release.

Vocalist Chris Kidwell comments:

“I hope this song knocks people the fuck out. I feel like there’s some bad energy in our country. I don’t like it, I’m not feeling it. We can’t blindly follow bullshit and tarnish the word patriotism. I am not here to just obey. Silence is acceptance.”

Formed in 2016, NOT MY MASTER have been dominating the El Paso local music scene with their unique sound, an aggressive mix of thrash, groove and extreme metal with a touch of southern rock. Their brand of “Texas Fucking Metal” is showcased in their new EP “Disobey” that features seven fist pounding tracks including a cover version of Danzig’s “How the Gods Kill” along with mixing and mastering by Chris Collier (Korn, Prong, Fear Factory).

Since their conception, the band has shared the stage with Death Angel, Soulfly, Nile, Rotting Christ, LA Guns, Kyng, Lord Dying and many more. They have also toured across the USA in several venues including Whisky A Go Go and Viper Room in Los Angeles.In support of “Disobey”, the band will be performing the following dates:

MaterDea is one of the most known and recognizable metal bands in Italy coming out of the pagan and Celtic scene. Following the direction started with “A Rose for Egeria”, this new record is a further step forward into the melding of metal and Celtic music, in the personal style that MaterDea’s fans will acknowledge and love once more. It is a powerful symphony where all the instruments and the voices join the sounds of nature, painting new grandiose landscapes enriched by colors and sophisticated arrangements. The melodies reveal themselves along with the sumptuous guitar riffs, a powerful rhythmic session and the twist of strings and orchestration, allowing the listener to be carried away in a dimension full of energy, beauty and hope by these magical tales.

The band describes “Pyaneta”:

“In this new album the stories are inspired by the deep interconnection that exists between every living thing and the largest sentient organism that hosts us, our planet Earth. It is an exhortation to the awareness of the environmental danger, a cry of hope for its future and a message of love for life in its gorgeous wholeness.”

MaterDea goes to great lengths to ensure that their listeners can be thrust away from reality and thrown into a fantastical world full of enchantment and magic and “Pyaneta”, their fifth album promises to do just that. Citing influences such as Genesis, Jethro Tull and Led Zeppelin, the band creates a gentle yet powerful type of metal with various classical overtones. With a desire to create powerful, intense, emotional music that features pantheistic themes the 7 classically trained Italian musicians paint a rich fantasy world for their listeners. Canadian 90’s Rockers SVEN GALI 25th Anniversary Ontario Tour + New Single “Kill The Lies”

Formed in 1987 in Hamilton and Niagara Falls, Ontario, SVEN GALI brought the 80’s and 90’s hard rock/metal wave home to Canada. They delivered their high-energy live show from St. Johns to Victoria, and across the USA and Europe for the next 9 years.

Twenty-five years after their self-titled debut album went Gold (50,000 units) in Canada, they are back with a monster new song called “Kill The Lies” recorded with legendary producer David Bendeth (Paramore, Breaking Benjamin, Bring Me The Horizon). Released on June 10th, 2018 the new track is no throwback to the 90’s, but a heavy, modern rock song that doesn’t look back. A part of the proceeds from the sale of the single will go to support cancer research in the name of founding guitar player Dee Cernile. Dee passed away from cancer in 2012.

In support and to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their self-titled debut and new single “Kill The Lies”, the band will play select Canadian tour dates in July and August 2018, and then head to the UK to headline the Hull Metal Festival in September alongside LA Guns and more.

The 2018 lineup includes all 3 remaining original members: Dave Wanless (vocals), Andy Frank (guitar), Shawn Minden (bass) and new members Sean Williamson (guitar) and Dan Fila (drums) from Canadian metal powerhouse and BMG label mates Varga.

SVEN GALI built a name fast with their live shows; drawing growing crowds on the Canadian and US circuit while building their songwriting chops and a wild reputation. David Bendeth signed the band to BMG Music Canada in 1991 and produced the self-titled debut, released in 1992.

The album included singles and videos for “Under The Influence”, “Tie Dyed Skies”, “In My Garden”, and the ballad, “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore” (#6 CanCon song of 1993). It included a cover of Teenage Head’s “Disgusteen” featuring guest vocals by Frankie Venom. The video for “Under the Influence” won the MuchMusic Best Metal Video award in 1993. The band was nominated for Hard Rock Album of the Year and Most Promising Band at the 1993 Juno Awards. Sven Gali went gold in Canada that year selling over 50,000 units.

SVEN GALI toured extensively throughout Canada and the USA, Germany, Belgium, Ireland and the UK, headlining and on the bill with acts including April Wine, Foreigner, Candlebox, Pearl Jam and Def Leppard.

Their follow up album, Inwire (1995), recorded at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, was produced by Kelly Grey (Candlebox, Brother Kane, Dokken) and featured guest musicians Christopher Thorn of Blind Melon, and Candlebox’s Kevin Martin and Scott Mercado.

The band toured for the next year before disbanding in 1996 to now reform in 2018.

American/Finnish sensations TORNADO return in 2018 with a new release, aptly titled “Commitment To Excellence” featuring 11 songs of highly catchy and in-your-face thrash metal. Set to be released on August 31, 2018 via Extreme Metal Music, a subsidiary of Rockshots Records, this third full length features a guest line up that includes NILE’s Karl Sanders, IMMOLATION‘s Ross Dolan and PRO-PAIN’s Adam Phillips as well as Glen Drover (ex-MEGADETH). The album was produced by Ben Varon (ex-Amoral/Oceanhoarse) with mixing, mastering and engineering by AK, Chris Paccou (FOH Engineer of Slayer).

Formed in 2010 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, TORNADO quickly released their Peter Tagtgren (Hypocrisy/Pain) produced debut album “Amsterdamn, Hellsinki”. 2016 saw the release of the sophomore album “Black President” as well as the video for the anti-bullying song “David and Goliath”, which caught the attention of several anti-bullying agencies, one of which used singer Superstar Joey Severance in a country wide advertising campaign.
