Formed in 2016 with the beautiful backdrop of the Canadian Rockies, METALOCALYSPTICK was created to present a unique experience within the Western Canadian metal community, a gathering of similar views, aspirations and musical taste. (similar to former mainstream music festival Lilith Fair.)

The festival was founded by Kaija Kinney of Vancouver’s Anarcheon after researching a lack of female based metal festivals to apply her band to, Kinney took matters into in her own and decided to produce the event.

“This festival means the celebration of both sexes coming together and creating something amazing. People like to say women in metal aren’t a big deal anymore and that we are all the same. I feel that is untrue, this is still a male dominated world and woman are still looked as lesser. I want to showcase all these bad ass ladies and celebrate the differences of men and woman rather than pretend we are all equal. Truth is we are different why can’t we celebrate that?” says Kinney.

The 1st annual Metalocalypstick in 2016 hosted female influenced metal bands from across Canada and the world such as Brazil’s Nervosa (Napalm Records), Egypt’s Massive Scar Era, Hollywood’s The Maension, Valfreya, Scythia, Mortillery (Napalm Records), Van Halst, Dead Asylum, Juliet Ruin, Violent Betty, Omega Crom, Körperlose Stimme, Elysium Echoes, Solborn, Monarch Sky, Forsaken Rite, Anarcheon, and Suspended.

If Nirvana and The Doors had a love child, who was then raised in the desert taking hits of acid with Frank Zappa, you’d likely end up with a band that sounds as oddly unique as The Reed Effect.

Hailing from Toronto, ON, the psych rock trio have spent the last several years proudly shaking hips with their riffs  warping minds with their lyrics, and assaulting all five senses with an onslaught of progressively addictive rock hooks that pull from grunge, metal and blues. Having been tapped as support for bands like Jeff Martin of The Tea Party, The Wild and Die Mannequin along with multiple performances at Indie Week and Canadian Music Week, The Reed Effect have been leaving their unique brand of stinkface-inducing, schizophrenic rock lingering in the air of venues across Canada since day one.

Lead by founding member guitarist / vocalist Kirk Reed along with his brother Chris on bass and drummer Bryan Fontez, the rock n’ roll power threesome will be releasing their new EP “A Strange Curiosity” on November 10th, 2017, setting the bar higher than ever.

Drummer Bryan Fontez comments:

“We expect any and all fans of rock music to find something on this EP that they’d enjoy. We’ve carefully crafted six very dynamic songs that range from catchy radio bangers to progressive grunge metal to psychedelic tribal grooves. It’s an interesting EP with a collection of feelings, emotions and experiences attained through living and observing life. Six very unique tracks that sound drastically different and we’re super proud of it.”

The band’s first single and new music video “No Way Outta Here” directed plus edited by drummer Bryan Fontez is a straight ahead rocker with catchy guitar riffs, heavy thudding drums, pounding bass accompanied by a hint of blues, a slide guitar solo and a danceable beat.

“No Way Outta Here” can be viewed and heard at the following link:

“A Strange Curiosity” is available for pre-order on iTunes here and on the band’s online store here.

The Reed Effect is:

“Seasoned musicians who bring a big sound and serious rock swagger” – Exclaim!

“A revival and reinterpretation of the classic grunge rock sound” – The Scene Magazine

“The Reed Effect are a hard rocking trio from Toronto who have a deliciously dirty grunge sound with masses of attitude and a smattering of blues…Full of heavy grooves, hard skin thrashing, buckets of dynamic riffs and boundless energy…The tracks stay in your head with so many catchy hooks they reel you in. ‘A Strange Curiosity’ is not so strange, It’s hard, it’s heavy and more importantly it’s very good.” – Down Front Media

http://unbowed.bigcartel.comAbout:
Unbowed was originally founded in 2011 as a studio-project comprised of Ioan Tetlow (vocals) and Alex Snape (guitar); at the time being just high school kids. Unbowed has self-released two EPs, two full-length albums, and toured throughout Ontario and Québec. Since Unbowed’s humble beginnings, the band’s trajectory has been geared towards releasing epic full length albums and touring across Europe and the rest of the world. Now that the band is comprised of a full line-up of likeminded musicians with the introduction of Steven Rowlands (guitar), Julian Dutton (drums), and Aiden Watkinson (bass), the band is taking the steps to make that ideal trajectory a reality. Through Endless Tides is Unbowed’s most recent and most ambitious output. With this release, the band found a way to naturally represent their wide array of inspirations; allowing them to manifest into a sound that is entirely and uniquely their own. Unbowed is music about acknowledging and tackling the hardships provided by the human condition. We all witness and experience strife and adversity at an alarming rate in this age. Unbowed is about wading through the transitory aspects of life and preserving what is true, what keeps us ambitious, and what keeps us united.

“A band who’ve already played alongside Battlecross, Einherjer, The Contortionist, these barely twenty-year-olds demonstrate a maturity beyond their years. Telling the story of resistance against the ‘endless tides’, the band’s new release is a masterful and brutal journey. Virtuosic guitars, battle-cry musical textures, and apocalyptic vocals – not a half-hearted listen.” – Echoes and Dust

“I can’t help but call Unbowed a highly promising new act” – New Noise Magazine

“Through Endless Tides is the brand new album from Canadian symphonic black/death outfit Unbowed and just…HELL YES. Stick this album on and turn up the volume because it surely can’t be listened to any other way! Through Endless Tides is one seriously awesome piece of work.” – Soundscape Magazine

“‘Through Endless Tides’ is progressive in the best and most natural way” – Uberrock

VelociTurkeySaurusRex Tour – Psychostick, Arsonists Get All the Girls, Kissing Candice & Raven Black

The kings of comedy rock PSYCHOSTICK are kicking off their “The Veloci-Turkey-Saurus Rex Tour” presented by Zildjian in St. Louis, MO on November 2nd and wrapping it up in Pittsburgh, PA on December 9th with support from Arsonists Get All The Girls (on select dates), Kissing Candice and Raven Black. As the band hits the road to share new and familiar material, they have posted their latest video “Adulting”, which will be one of many new tracks planned on their forthcoming album set for release in 2018 to follow their 2014 break out “Revenge of The Vengeance”.

Guitarist Josh “The J” Key comments:

“Over the past couple of years, we’ve transitioned from the tour-tour-tour vagabond lifestyle to having homes and lives again. On the one hand, it’s nice to sleep in your own bed and to have a social group and girlfriends you see regularly. On the other hand, the reality of having to clean, dust, take out trash, taking care of things, mow lawns, etc left us crashing down to reality hard. Over a decade ago I uprooted my stable life as a web designer to go tour, and now I find myself recalling, “Oh YEAH! I remember this stable life stuff! And it’s BULLSHIT!” So this song is dedicated to all our fans that had to plan around their responsibilities to make it to the show.”

Watch “Adulting” at the following link:

In addition to the tour, the band like to remind fans that No-Shave November is getting near and to be aware by embracing their hair, which many cancer patients lose and letting it grow wild and free. Donate the money you would typically spend on shaving and grooming to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle. They ask fans to share their video “Obey The Beard” with the hashtags #obeythebeard and #noshaveovember and to please donate to https://no-shave.org/.

PSYCHOSTICK‘s “IV: Revenge of The Vengeance” is available on iTunes here, the band’s online store here and all major online retailers.

About:

Harnessing their crazy sense of humor and love of all things metal, vocalist Rob “Rawrb” Kersey and guitarist Josh “The J” Key joined forces with drummer Alex “Shmalex” Dontre and bassist Matty J “Moose” to create Pyschostick, and a style of music they’ve coined as ‘humorcore’. With hilarious lyrics, heavy riffs, notorious stage antics and high-energy performances, the band has caused millions of laughs around the world and hundreds of mosh pits across the US of A, often simultaneously, since its birth in Phoenix, AZ in 2000.

Now residing in Chicago, IL, the almost 100 percent do-it-yourself laugh factory Psychostick have released four full-length albums–‘We Couldn’t Think of a Title’ (2006), ‘Sandwich’ (2009), ‘Space Vampires VS Zombie Dinosaurs in 3D’ (2011) and ‘IV: Revenge of the Vengeance’ (2014)—and two EPs—their holiday album, ‘The Flesh Eating Rollerskate Holiday Joyride’ (2007), and ‘The Digital Appetizer’. With their signature sound (Chimaira, Machine Head and Hatebreed sexing Tenacious D and Weird Al Yankovic) their most recent offering, the crowd-funded ‘IV: Revenge of the Vengeance‘ includes the beard anthem ‘Obey the Beard’ and popular ‘Dogs Like Socks’, ‘Quack Kills’, ‘So. Heavy.’, ‘Blue Screen’, and a tribute to the 21st century’s most beloved action super hero, ‘Bruce Campbell’. Psychostick are crazy to share with fans many more comedy sing-a-longs on the road and more!

The quartet unleashed their second full length “Impervious” this past October that features nine glorious thrashing tracks mixed and mastered by Erin Hamidovic (Devin Townsend Project, Sikth, Animals As Leaders, Periphery, Elm Street).

Vocalist / guitarist Jimmy Benson comments:

“During the demo process we wrote a lot of material, but the majority made the ‘Impervious’ album minus one or two songs. We spent a lot of time fine tuning the songs and making sure they kicked ass! For this album, we focused mainly on trimming the fat and stepping up the energy and tempos. Fast, focused and heavy! For those wanting to know more about this release. ‘Impervious’ touches on so many topics from suicide, death, terrorism and more events that happen to people around the world. When ya look at the front cover, it is a symbol of character and strength of a boy that goes about his everyday life in the worst conditions and does what is normal to him to get by day to day. To sum it up, this new album is powerful and holds a strong message from start to finish.”

“Support comes from Australia’s thrash sensations Mason says Annihilator main man Jeff Waters: “With all the great bands that sent in demos, cds and links, the one that stoof out was these guys. My guitarist Aaron and I sat and listened to some of their songs and realized that this band will kick our asses if we don’t start practicing a bit more! Killer thrash band and genuine.” – Jeff Waters Annihilator

“this really is thrash in its truest essence. If you were around when thrash first broke all those years ago, you have to listen to this record. You’ll be flabbergasted how tracks like Tears of Tragedy and The Afterlife make you feel just like you did in 1984-86, so effectively has the band captured the very essence of what thrash metal should look, smell and, most importantly, sound like. – Sentinel Daily

“When the first note gets in your ear you know it’s gonna be an awesome band.  It’s blowing riffs and a nice voice reminding you of many legends.” The Metal Mag

“The new album from Australian thrashers Mason, it surges through ears with rabid energy and unbridled aggression and proceeds to raise the ante groove by searing groove and hook by virulent hook.” – The RingMaster Review

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – November 1, 2017

For fans of Emperor, Gorgoroth, Marduk

Decibel Mag Premiere Colorado Black Metal Masters SAR ISATUM New Track “Chenoo”

Debut Album “Shurpu” Digital Release Nov 17th, CD Release Dec 22nd

Two things always contribute to creating epic original black metal. One is location, and by being based in Colorado, the Rocky Mountains provide the ideal canvas for technical symphonic black metal band SAR ISATUM to sweep broad musical brush strokes across a vast vista, musically, mentally, and physically.

The second is lyrical inspiration. SAR ISATUM eschews all the usual flogged-to-death lyrical clichés of black metal to take inspiration from a variety of sources. The very name SAR ISATUM comes from the Sumerian dialect. It means ‘King of Fire.’ Indeed, both the Sumerian and Annunaki empires provide strong lyrical inspiration.

Inspired by Emperor, Dark Funeral, Gorgoroth, Sothis and Craft, band member J.P Dalkhu describes SAR ISATUM’s music as “ethereal, nefarious, repugnant, abhorrent, cryptic.”

SAR ISATUM have high expectations of their upcoming debut album “Shurpu”, but at the same time, SAR ISATUM create music for themselves, not copying what has come before, but fans of various styles of black metal will find much to appreciate here. As Dalkhu so lyrically says SAR ISATUM create “a variation of extreme and atmospheric black metal as if one went through a burning battlefield and witnessed horrid devastation.” Dalkhu feels that this is the best band its members have ever been a part of and are constantly evolving as musicians.

Teaming up with Decibel Magazine, SAR ISATUM are sharing with fans their second single “Chenoo”.

The band comments:

“Chenoo is the second song of the album, it’s a completely different from the first self titled track on the album, it’s a devastating track from beginning to end, Chenoo is about the evil man-eating ice giants of northern Wabanaki legends. A Chenoo was once a human being who either became possessed by an evil spirit or committed a terrible crime (especially cannibalism or withholding food from a starving person), causing his heart to turn to ice. In a few legends a human has been successfully rescued from the frozen heart of a Chenoo, but usually once a person has been transformed into a Chenoo, their only escape is death.”

Listen to “Chenoo” at the following link: https://www.decibelmagazine.com/2017/11/01/track-premiere-sar-isatum-chenoo/

“Shurpu” will be released digitally on November 17th and on CD December 22nd. Pre-order available on Bandcamp here.

For those in the Denver, CO area, SAR ISATUM will be performing with Belphegor, Cryptopsy,  Panzerfaust, and Mount Cairn on November 19th at the Roxy Theatre. Full details can be found here.

“We are gonna get on stage and take it on like a battle in a war. Expect an intense live show from us, like a fire destroying everything in its path.” says Dalkhu.

Track Listing:
1. Sar Isatum (8:06)
2. Chenoo (3:13)
3. Black Gate (4:52)
4. Gormandizer (5:34)

About:

Taking influence from Europe’s music festival circuit, Armstrong Metal Fest is a heavy metal celebration that encourages metal heads from across Canada and the globe to mosh and camp with the backdrop of great outdoors of British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. What started as a backyard party in 2009 with nothing but eleven local metal bands such as Terrifier, Xul and Odinfist to name a few, has grown into a a huge success admired by the Western Canadian Metal scene. 2017 was the ninth year of the festival and was its largest year for music and attendance. Previous years of the festival have seen line ups with Cattle Decapitation, Suffocation, Beyond Creation, Dayglo Abortions, Rivers of Nihil, The Zenith Passage, Anciients, Bison BC, Striker, Crimson Shadows, Holy Grail, Archspire, Cryptopsy, Unleash The Archers, Divinity, Into Eternity, Ninjaspy, Vesperia, XUL, Odinfist, Death Toll Rising, Gomorrah among many others.

What the press is saying:

“In the past, metalheads had to travel to Germany to experience the rush a big festival, such as Wacken Open Air. But local headbangers decided to bring that feeling home with Armstrong Metalfest.” – Vernon Morning Star

“Go Big or Stay at Home: Armstrong has that welcoming feeling for rock show.” – The Valley Voice

“To witness such a gathering of talent is an absolute privilege, and for that fact alone, I will certainly be returning to Armstrong Metal Fest.” – Beatroute BC

“This festival is now going to be my yearly must-go-to event and if you’re a metal head that hasn’t attended, or a curious metal voyeur, do yourself a favour and check it out, you will not regret it.” – Abort Mag

“The Armstrong Metalfest is one such event and has grown from its initial, humble beginnings seven years ago to be a regular mainstay, with its south-central BC location making for a popular summertime destination for fans and bands alike.” Decibel Mag

Named one of the out-of-town music festivals worth the trip by The Vancouver Sun

“For metalheads, this is a great vacation where groups of all sizes can enjoy their favourite musical genre in a fun, energized environment. Not to mention, the camping!” The Permanent Rain Press

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – October 31, 2017

For fans of Sons of Butcher, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, 80s pop hits

Rue Morgue Premiere MOONLIGHT DESIRES Halloween Video “Hungry Like The Wolf”

Sons of Butcher Creator Trevor Ziebarth Makes 80’s Pop Anthems Go Metal

w/ MOONLIGHT DESIRES New Album “Just The Hits: 1981-1985”

Out Now via Infamous Butcher Records

Moonlight Desires might only play 80s cover songs, but you’d be wrong to dismiss them as just another cover band. Formed by long-time Hamilton, ON musician Trevor Ziebarth (Actor/Writer/Composer on Teletoon’s adult comedy series Sons of Butcher), Moonlight Desires is his ode to the raunchy romances and youthful misadventures of summer’s past. By re-working synth laden pop hits of the 1980s, Ziebarth manages to turn familiar guilty pleasures into modern, guitar-driven rock anthems.

Joined in the studio by drummer Dave Dunham (Not Of, DAVIDS, ex-Chore, ex-Sons Of Butcher) and lead guitarist Marco Bressette (Dead Tired, ex-Threat Signal), their new album “Just The Hits: 1981-1985” transforms timeless hits such as “Sunglasses At Night” by Corey Hart and “Something About You” by Level 42 into party rock anthems.

With Halloween here, the band has unleashed their music video for their Duran Duran cover “Hungry Like The Wolf” premiered exclusively on Rue Morgue at the following link: https://rue-morgue.com/moonlight-desires-presents-hungry-like-the-wolf/

To get your CD or cassette copy of Moonlight Desires “Just The Hits: 1981-1985”, please visit the following link on the band’s bandcamp here and for digital download, please visit iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and all major digital platforms.

“Just The Hits (1981-1985) is a short album with a very high entertainment factor.” – Disagreement.net

“this is a fun album, well executed and stubborn but respectful to the originals. I can only applaud that and advise you to check this album out.” – Merchants of Air

“This album is comprised of hard rock 80s pop covers that often border on metal, and it is every bit as fun as it sounds.” – Hellbound.ca
“It is glorious, a less tongue in cheek Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. It is the Alpha and the Omega. Life has meaning, and it’s buried in the dreams of a girl with teased hair and a boy with a tennis racket for a guitar…” – Nine Circles

“Just The Hits: 1981-1985 by Moonlight Desires is an album that I can probably guarantee that you will not hear anywhere else. One of the main aspects and memories that you will take away from this album is how entertaining the album is.” – Kingston Music Reviews

“…Moonlight Desires’ second offering is filled with the top-notch heavy covers of 80s Synth Pop classics their fans have come to expect.” – Bradmachry.ca
