Set to release ten tracks of their intricate, contrapuntal prog rock that they’ve honed over the last decade on May 18, 2018 on their first full length effort titled “Awakening” to follow their 2017 EP “Back Again”, Toronto melodic proggers THE SLYDE are sharing with fans the full stream of the new album via ProgressiveMusicPlanet.com at the following link: https://progressivemusicplanet.com/2018/05/17/full-album-premiere-the-slyde-awakening/

The band comments:

“We think fans will certainly enjoy this release, and will notice that we’re slowly adding more of an aggressive edge to our songwriting plus incorporating more ‘metal’ elements into the riffs.  ‘Awakening” is less conceptual than previous releases by containing more straight up rockin’ tunes.  Each song stands on its own.”

In true prog fashion, THE SLYDE stays true to their mission statement with their quirky arrangements, aggressive edge, and ominous lyrics.  The result is a thought provoking, high-octane album for fans of Rush, Dream Theater, Haken, Coheed and Cambria, and Megadeth. Driven by Nathan Da Silva’s elegant vocals, Sarah Westbrook’s powering keyboard skills, and the powerful rhythm section of Alberto Campuzano (Warmachine, ex-Annihilator) and Brendan Soares, the band are to catch the ears of any technically minded melodic prog rock fan.

“Awakening” will be available on Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon and Distrokid here.

“The Slyde have written a full-length rock record that is retro yet contemporary, edgy yet smooth.  There are plenty of dynamics while staying high-energy and never boring or overwrought.  Well-balanced and entertaining, these songs are progressive but not pretentious.  Have a listen then tell your friends! ” – Progressive Music Planet

“An album with an incredible energy and a vocalist that keeps up with them, The Slyde make a formidable record. This band have many highlights on Awakening, including ‘Walk With Me’ and ‘So Blind’ where the band make clear just what they can do.” – Thinking Lyrically

“It’s obvious that The Slyde is very passionate about their music, and for good reason. The tracks contained on this album are top notch progressive jams, each offering their own unique spin on the prog rock/metal genre.” – Under Air Media

“…This is quite possibly the greatest thing I have heard from the underground in a while, at least in North America. The Slyde have nailed a style many deny exists, and done it with true flair. I really hope this band picks up, since they are one of the current unsung talents of this earth.” – The 10th Doctor of Prog, on The Slyde’s 2012 EP ‘New World Sympathy’

“…an impressive step forward/return to form for these Canadian bright-eyed musicians and stands to solidify their name as one of the more promising ventures in the increasingly prolific progressive metal scene.” – Heavy Blog is Heavy, on the ‘Back Again’ EP

“Back Again is a breath of fresh air as all four songs bounce along with spirit and confidence, not to mention a great blend of strong hooks, succinctness and technical ability which is evident but not rammed down our throats. Everything just sounds right, if that makes sense.” 8/10 – The Man of Much Metal

“Not just an epic heavy prog-fest, The Slyde have delivered an intelligent and compelling 4-track EP that hints at much promise to come from this Canadian four piece.” – ProgRadar, on the ‘Back Again’ EP

“The Slyde will be the band I remember from IndieWeek. Thanks for making it worthwhile guys. Incredible set. Best band of the week by a mile.” – Music Vice

The EP follows FALLEN LEGION‘s two well-received demo EPs “Screams From The Dungeon” (2012) and “Infinite Archive” (2015). Consisting of Nick Sauter on guitars, Jon Kal on bass, Josh Masterson on vocals and Dylan Waybrant on drums, the band presents an eclectic metal brigade of influences from Gojira, Korn, Iron Maiden, Dethlok and Antonio Vivaldi.

The band is not shy when it comes to hitting the road having performed with bands like Soilwork, Havok, Unearth, Battlecross and 36 Crazy Fists, FALLEN LEGION will be touring Southern Ontario in support of “Downfall” on “The Weekend Warriors Tour” (dates listed below).

Set to unleash their debut album “The Last Arbiter” on Test Your Metal Records on May 18th, 2018, North Carolina sci-fi extreme metallers XAEL have a new music video story to share with fans for their track “Srai (The Demon of Erring)” premiered on Toilet Ov Hell at the following link: http://www.toiletovhell.com/premiere-xael-chained-to-the-demon-of-erring/

Nassaru (lead vocalist, guitarist, studio drummer) explains the video’s story:

“Srai is poetically seen as a demon, but is a captured ancient entity that has a dismal past with the protagonist being that there is lore that predates this album’s story line. In an attempt to kill the main character, it was captured and bound by technology using a quantum field. It hungers to kill the wayfarer, but being immortal makes that difficult as one can presume. But there is a problem with the wayfarer’s immortality as he suffers from an odd illness poetically called “soul sickness”, where he loses consciousness and it is during this episode that his immortality is suppressed. Srai seizes this moment to sit upon the wayfarer’s chest to steal his last breath. In this song you can see the relationship with “sleep paralysis” and how it ties into the lore.”

Combining elements of extreme metal with orchestrations and folk music to create soundscapes for the imagination, XAEL‘s sci-fi inspired music focuses on the endeavors of its members in a science fantasy epic.  From the wastelands of war torn planets to the pits where the fallen gods dwell, XAEL paints an odd and fantastic world musically and visually.  The band was founded by Nassaru of Rapheumets Well as well as Sorgiem “Daniel Presnell,” Tuurm “Alex Rush”, and Xolotl “Fernando Ortega and is joined by musical artist is Rei Haycraft, Firran “Joshua Morse” and Zabrûz “Chris Hathcock.”

Nassaru comments:

“Xael started out as a personal project that evolved into a unity of like-minded musicians. The music derives inspiration from extreme metal, folk and tribal music, as well as 80’s synth and sci-fi textured scores.  We are very excited to for people to see the handwork and detailed time we put into this album given the limited resources we had. Xael “The Last Arbiter” is not just a musical regurgitation but a unique experience that follows an intrinsic story.  Our characters, emotions, and trials of life are woven throughout the album as we aim to bring a very diverse and immersive album to our growing fan base.”

“The Last Arbiter” Album summary:

The sky ghost, the wayfarer, the shadow of time, the exile; he is called by many names yet for the Immortal, he is cursed to traverse the cosmos aimlessly, searching for an unattainable purpose. Chained to him is a beast, a demon from antiquity who the immortal keeps as a reminder of his past.

Upon the corridors of the Tymeer capitol the immortal presents his seemingly profound doctrine called the “Compendium of Ethical Symbiosis” which outlines a harmonious way of governing and regulating the various civilizations under the ruling regime through casting down warmonger ideologies and laws which degrade the value of its species.

Though momentarily entertained, the ruling counsel of Tymeer dismisses the wisdom of the wayfarer. Passing through the city gates tired and morally degraded, the immortal along with his insidiously chained demon wanders into the wastelands of Tymeer. It is here that his journey begins.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 16, 2018

For fans of Lamb of God, Sepultura, Ektomorf

Decibel Mag Premiere BornBroken’s New Album “The Years of Harsh Truths and Little Lies”

(L-R) Samuel Santiago (Drums), Mike Decker (Lead/Rhythm Guitar, Vocals), Pepe Poliquin (Vocals), Red Voizard (Bass), Simon Savard (Rhythm Guitar, Backing Vocals) – Photo Credit: Eric Sanchez

Following up their well-received 2013 debut album ‘The Healing Powers of Hate’, Montreal’s BornBroken return in 2018 with a 40 minute freight-train on “The Years of Harsh Truths and Little Lies”. Aggressive music for critical masses, BornBroken are a band that thrives on fury at the injustices of the world we are living in and now is the right time for their righteous rage that feeds their creative furnace.  Their new album features a refreshed line up that includes vocalist Pepe Peloquin (Endast), drummer Samuel Santiago (Gorod, First Fragment) along with bassist Red Voizard to join founding members and guitarists Mike Decker and Simon Sivard. The ten track assault is heavier and angrier plus even includes special guest vocals from Slaves On Dope’s Jason Rockman on “Fight”.

Teaming up with Decibel Magazine, BORNBROKEN are premiering the album’s full stream at the following link: https://www.decibelmagazine.com/2018/05/16/full-album-stream-bornbroken-the-years-of-harsh-truths-and-little-lies/

Guitarist Mike Decker comments:

“This CD has been a long time coming and needed to get out to the public instead of sitting on our hard drives. We are very pleased so far with the early positive response from the listeners of our 2 videos/singles “The Years of Harsh Truths and Little Lies” & “Listen”.

It is only obvious our music and the metal scene will only grow stronger and more aggressive as the world we live in deteriorates around us, so we must spread our voice and make it known we will be heard and no longer take what is happening sitting down. We do not want the scraps left behind; we all deserve a piece of the pie cooling in the window! Let’s make the world great again…”

BornBroken’s sophomore album “The Years of Hard Truths And Little Lies” is due out May 18th, 2018 and available for pre-order on Bandcamp and iTunes.

“Although they hail from the famously pleasant country of Canada, BornBroken, might be the heaviest and angriest thing we’ve heard from their parts in a long time. With no shortage of punishing riffs, brutal drumming, and vicious vocals that spit lyrics to change the world, BornBroken’s sophomore album ,The Years of Hard Truths And Little Lies, is worth pre-ordering before it’s due out May 18th.” – Metal Injection

“Un groupe énergique qui livre la marchandise! Alors quand on m’a proposé de faire la critique de leur nouvel album, je vous laisse deviner quel fut mon engouement à découvrir ce nouvel opus! Une douce brutalité bien musicale comme je les aime. Un album avec une âme, et qui en profite pour prendre possession de la nôtre au passage durant ces trop courtes 40 minutes!…Ma note, un SOLIDE 9 sur 10 largement mérité!” – Metal Universe

“The Years of Harsh Truths and Little Lies est un autre chef-œuvre musical que BornBroken nous as pondu. The Years of Harsh Truths and Little Lies est définitivement l’album qui va projeter BornBroken à un autre niveau sur l’échiquier du métal mondial. ” – Quebec Metal

“BornBroken may be the best metal band you probably haven’t heard of. Those who love hard, heavy, angry metal are in for a treat and may find a new favorite in BornBroken.″ – TheFrontRowReport

“These extreme metallers have done an amazing job of combining death and thrash…” – Yell Magazine

“Working off catchy as fuck, breakdown inflected riffs BornBroken mercilessly pound the listener to pulp. There is absolutely no doubt people leave a BornBroken show with injuries.” – Hellbound

“Marching to the sounds of brutal bass, slamming percussion, high-speed guitar solos and violently powerful vocals, the broken shall rise.” – LouderThanHell

“Many of the hooks and riffs are excellent, they absolutely destroy my speakers, and the bedroom mosh commences.” – MetalStorm

“BornBroken have resurrected the intense metallic sounds of bands the likes of A Life Once Lost, Hatebreed, Nora, and Arise And Ruin that once dominated the North American metal scene. It’s wonderful to hear a band like BornBroken bringing back what some might consider the peak sound of modern metal.”

– MusikUniverse

“Musically, BornBroken are a more solid, and extremely heavy, lot. Simon Savard and Mike Decker’s surging, Dimebag Darrell-inspired grooves hit like haymakers throughout, aided by the sort of dry, ultra-punchy production Terry Date used to achieve such brutal majesty with Pantera, Unearth, Deftones and on White Zombie’s Astro Creep: 2000. The sound here is huge – especially for a self-released effort – clear and quite pummeling.” – Metal-Rules

“BornBroken deserves broad attention. They’ve already made a very big impression in their native Montreal, both for their live performances as well as their music in general. I honestly don’t know that much about the Montreal metal scene, but I do know that it is getting bigger and more competitive. For these guys to emerge as a local favorite suggests something of their overall quality. Give this one a spin.” SeaofTranquility

“Ça me manquait d’entendre du bon groove métal et cette formation de Montréal excelle dans ce domaine. Imagine un mélange de Pantera et Lamb Of God avec une voix hardcore à la Hatebreed et ça te donne une bonne idée du style que propose BornBroken.” – Boulevard Brutal

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 15, 2018

Romanian / Swedish Power Metal Trio CROSSING ETERNITY To Release Debut Album “The Rising World” via Rockshots Records

Brand new Romanian/Swedish symphonic power metallers CROSSING ETERNITY are gearing up to release their debut album “The Rising World” to the world June 15, 2018 via Rockshots Records.

Music Video – Crossing Eternity

“The Rising World” blends elements of modern metal with psychedelic soundscapes alluding to the innocence of the 70s’ rock music. The album contains thirteen epic songs, widely varied in composition and arrangement. The lyrics are a natural extension of this musical experience and they are tales of a spiritual journey. At times they talk about the invisible side of the world, other times they speak of fairy tale magic characters. Human nature and the causal dynamic of human interactions are also among the approached topics.

In regards to recording of the album, singer Berti Barbera says:

“Recording this album was the most challenging vocal experience of my life. It brought back the times me and Manu were playing in a rock band, with all the jokes and high energy. The serious effort made me use a lot of techniques and ways of expression I thought I lost or never use again. This is a great achievement and definitely our best work together in a time I stopped believing in magic. There is something cosmos related in this, it must be. I can’t wait to be on stage with these guys.”

Manu Savu (Guitar/ Bass/ Keyboards) also reflects on the album:

“I wrote the music for this album as an introspective journey, like a confession, a deep soul search, a backward connection, a connection with the almost unseen world of metaphors and symbols, an essential part of our existence. It’s an act of honesty, a musical statement about what we can and cannot see, a story between the tangible and the magical world.”

The adventure of CROSSING ETERNITY started in the summer of 2017, when guitarist/composer Manu Savu entered the studio with a head full of great song ideas alongside fellow Romanian Berti Barbera, the band’s singer and Swedish Uffe Tillman taking on drum duties. Although the band is brand new, the three passionate, experienced musicians bring 25-30 years of experience across all genres with them. This mix of experience and wide variety of musical influences allows them to create a sound they describe as big, organic, personal, vibrant and honest.

Enjoying the privilege of sharing the stage with big names like Uriah Heep, Ten Years After, Scorpions, Larry Coryell, Blood, Sweat and Tears, the band’s main priority is to expand their boundaries and play worldwide, finding opportunities to make their music known and appreciated in as many countries as possible.

A full stream of WIDOW’S PEAK‘s debut EP “Graceless” can be heard at the following links:

Youtube: https://youtu.be/RbG60mVCutk
Bandcamp: https://wpdm.bandcamp.com/album/graceless-ep
Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/y8erqngh

The band adds:

“Graceless” is a jagged and angular approach to technical death metal that fuses tales of perverse violence with the sounds of chaos. We set out to create something that’s brutal and overwhelming, but never loses sight of the underlying groove. We feel that this EP is exactly that: 20 minutes of bang-your-head, balls-to-the-wall madness that any fan of extreme metal will appreciate.”

While many metal bands find inspiration from supernatural sources, myths, and legends, WIDOW’S PEAK find influence from true life horror, from the depths of cruelty, terror and pain that man(un)kind so readily descends to. WIDOW’S PEAK is an aural catalogue of carnage, a metallic mausoleum of pain, a sonic symphony of suffering. Their music does not reach for the stars, but rather for the cold void that surrounds them, the darkness that lives in the soul of man. Make no mistake; WIDOW’S PEAK’s ferocity is the music of the spears, metal dripping with blood, bile and venom!

Track Listing:
1. Debt Collector (3:47)
2. CBT (3:47)
3. Overseer (2:02)
4. Headless (2:58)
5. Mother Misery (3:34)
6. Graceless (3:25)
EP Length: 19:35

WIDOW’S PEAK is:
Patricio Cereceda-Paulsen – Drums
Chris McCrimmon – Lead Guitar

“Canadian technical death metal outfit Widow’s Peak might be more man than machine, judging by Graceless, their new EP. Starting from the second you hit play, Widow’s Peak attack with blistering fretwork, relentless drumming and a diverse vocal performance.” – Decibel Magazine

“an inventive display of breathtaking destructiveness married to kaleidoscopic, head-spinning instrumental performances, and further reveals an unconventional taste in melody that makes the song even more fascinating….but there’s still more to be said about the song. In broad strokes, it’s complete balls-to-the-wall mayhem, mostly rushing ahead in the red zone, from the barrage of percussive tumult to the mutilating riffs and the deranged, insectile leads. And to add to the feeling of lunatic savagery, the bullet-spitting vocals veer from monster roars to banshee shrieks.” – No Clean Singing (Track Review – Mother’s Misery)

“Brewing in the darkest depths and the most pungent of bowels of Calgary, Alberta, Widow’s Peak comes spewing forth with their debut EP titled Graceless. This is a demented, dark and incredibly vile release filled with six full tracks that are sure to rip your scalp right off your skull. ” – Cadaver Garden

“Friends of technical death metal will rejoice over the technically precise and relentlessly brutal wave of destruction resounding on the soon to be released debut EP from Widow’s Peak. The Canadians from Calgary, Alberta are still pretty much an underground tip but “Graceless” is a promising move to get this band more well-deserved attention.” – Overdrive Music Mag

“The songs are savage and ferocious affairs, featuring head-spinning technicality that’s offset by brutal riffs and belligerent rhythms. With plenty of blast and groove, as well as sickening guttural growls, Graceless is sure to keep fans of extremity happy.” – Wonderbox Metal

“Groovy killer rhythms, twisted paces and just catching rhythms, enough sick to be supported by all the fans into technical death metal! ” – Sick and Destroy

“Lyrically vile and discomforting, they focus on the strangely perverse and dark aspects of the human condition and real life events” – Ursound

Making an impact on the Canadian’s 80s thrash scene, Ottawa legends INFRARED have returned to cement and carry on their own legacy, with their new album “Saviours” featuring all new music to follow their EP “No Peace”, which featured tracks all written in the 80’s and only recently heard by fans in 2016. “Saviours” features eight tracks that are thrashy, aggressive, melodic, heavy, and tight.

Entering the mosh pit with PureGrainAudio.com, INFRARED are premiering their latest track “Saviour” at the following link: http://puregrainaudio.com/audio/ottawa-thrashers-infrared-return-with-heavy-new-single-saviour-exclusive-premiere

Vocalist / guitarist Armin Kamal comments:

“Anyone who likes a more classic thrash sound, and longs for those days, just like we do, will dig this album. Since we are from that era, we are not trying to bring back that style of music, we are simply continuing what we know and do best! The Big Four will stand out as we have been described as a band with a bay area sound…But our influences are truly rooted in 70s and early 80s metal. Accept, Scorpions, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest are all bands that laid the foundation and the love of metal for us!”

“Saviours” is available for pre-order on iTunes here.

“Straight up thrash metal with the heavy and fast riffs, pounding drums, and the thumping of the bass.” – Sleaze Roxx

“After sitting down and listening to Infrared’s ‘No Peace’ over a period of days, it’s safe to say that this is a solid thrash metal album that will easily please genre purists. It’s an aggressive offering, but it doesn’t take too many risks, nor does it have to. This band is extremely talented and this album is well worth your money.” – Metal At The Gates

“At times reminiscent of old school Metallica, sometimes Megadeth, sometimes something else entirely. In short, if you dig 80’s metal you should really give this album a listen. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. I’m already looking forward to the next.” – Skull Banger

“No Peace grabs you by the balls from the first power chords of Inframental and doesn’t let up until the final note of In Search Of.” – Korea Guitar

“Overall, classic sounding, old school thrash metal from an era when thrash was still evolving, this album (No Peace) is a cracking introduction to the mid eighties thrash metal sound.” – Metal Gods TV

“For the sound and style, this is one of the top releases over the last year. The style was getting stale with many sound a-likes, now Infrared are here, so pick up your jaw and enjoy this bruiser of an album. “- Acier Doux Metal Management & Promotions Tunisia

“I can’t even try and place Within the Giant’s Reach into any genre as they seem to cover most genres in one track. There are elements of Thrash, Death, Death-core, Hardcore and Tech Death. How it is possible to manage this in one track is beyond my imagination. If their forthcoming EP is anything like this track, then I am sure that Within the Giant’s Reach will find themselves a lot of new fans across the globe.”  – The Metal Review

Kelowna Now: Armstrong Metal Festival Co-founder reflects on a decade of metal – Video Interview here.

ARMSTRONG METALFEST is proud to announce its 2018 line up featuring headliners KATAKLYSM, SARAH LONGFIELD, ARCHSPIRE, THE KENNEDY VEILand more (full line-up listed below).

What first began as a backyard show has now grown into one of Western Canada’s best mountain moshpits in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. Reaching its 10 year milestone, Armstrong MetalFest is now anchored as one of the largest gatherings of metalheads from across Western Canada and beyond. The 2018 line-up will feature over 30 bands performing on July 13th and 14th at the Hassen Arena in Armstrong, BC.

Festival co-founder Jesse Valstar comments:

“Everyone in West Metal Entertainment Society has put in the extra effort in making this year the best year we have ever had. Celebrating 10 years of this festival is a big deal! There were people who were quite skeptical about the event when it first originated, some even went as far as to say “it would never work” and that “it won’t last”. Now ten years later, the tone overall is very welcoming and has been for many years!

This year’s line up brings together a good mix of bands that have never played and fan favorites. Kataklysm has been a band we have sought after over the years and have finally booked! It’s great timing also with them releasing a new album in June!

This year’s Armstrong Metalfest is a milestone for us. We have successfully made it to a decade of metal in the Okanagan!”

About:

Taking influence from Europe’s music festival circuit, Armstrong Metal Fest is a heavy metal celebration that encourages metal heads from across Canada and the globe to mosh and camp with the backdrop of great outdoors of British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. What started as a backyard party in 2009 with nothing but eleven local metal bands such as Terrifier, Xul and Odinfist to name a few, has grown into a a huge success admired by the Western Canadian Metal scene. 2017 was the ninth year of the festival and was its largest year for music and attendance. Previous years of the festival have seen line ups with Cattle Decapitation, Suffocation, Beyond Creation, Dayglo Abortions, Rivers of Nihil, The Zenith Passage, Anciients, Bison BC, Striker, Crimson Shadows, Holy Grail, Archspire, Cryptopsy, Unleash The Archers, Divinity, Into Eternity, Ninjaspy, Vesperia, XUL, Odinfist, Death Toll Rising, Gomorrah among many others.

What the press is saying:

“In the past, metalheads had to travel to Germany to experience the rush a big festival, such as Wacken Open Air. But local headbangers decided to bring that feeling home with Armstrong Metalfest.” – Vernon Morning Star

“Go Big or Stay at Home: Armstrong has that welcoming feeling for rock show.” – The Valley Voice

“To witness such a gathering of talent is an absolute privilege, and for that fact alone, I will certainly be returning to Armstrong Metal Fest.” – Beatroute BC

“This festival is now going to be my yearly must-go-to event and if you’re a metal head that hasn’t attended, or a curious metal voyeur, do yourself a favour and check it out, you will not regret it.” – Abort Mag

“The Armstrong Metalfest is one such event and has grown from its initial, humble beginnings seven years ago to be a regular mainstay, with its south-central BC location making for a popular summertime destination for fans and bands alike.” Decibel Mag

Named one of the out-of-town music festivals worth the trip by The Vancouver Sun

“For metalheads, this is a great vacation where groups of all sizes can enjoy their favourite musical genre in a fun, energized environment. Not to mention, the camping!” The Permanent Rain Press
