NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 12, 2020

For fans of Tristania, Draconian, Dimmu Borgir, Insomnium, Wolfheart

Rockshots Records: Thy Despair New Music Video ‘Army of Dead’

New Album “The Song of Desolation” Out Now!

Unleashing their new album “The Song Of Desolation” recently on May 8th via Rockshots Records, Ukraine’s THY DESPAIR are sharing with fans their new music video for ‘Army of Dead’.

The band explains the story behind track:

“A princess is in despair as her beloved knight fell in battle. She asks a magician if he could do something. The magician turns out to be a powerful necromancer and raises the fallen warrior into a flesh-craving zombie. The moral is that when you consider the things go extremely bad you should still think of what you are doing as it can always get worse.”

Watch ‘Army of Dead’ HERE.

A symphonic dark metal band that blends black, gothic, doom, symphonic and melodic death elements into their sound along with vocals being sung in both English and Ukrainian, Thy Despair‘s new album “The Song of Desolation” follows the band’s 2018 debut EP “Free One”. Some of the album’s lyrics are influenced by the war in eastern Ukraine.

“It is a great tragedy for the nation and the main idea of these songs is that you should always fight back and keep freedom in your heart and mind. Lyrics of other songs are inspired by local legends or life experience.” says band founder Nephilim.

The album as a whole features 10 tracks each with its own tale to tell and a statement that unites all of them together.

Nephilim adds:

“Even when everything goes extremely bad, you should still stay strong, struggle, and hope for the best, otherwise you won’t survive or will turn into a backboneless slave.”

About:

Thy Despair band was founded by guitarist Nephilim in 2006 in Kiev, Ukraine. Initially, the band was called Thoughts of the Desperate and revealed the essence of despair in its lyrics. The first songs were written in the style of gothic doom metal under the influence of such bands as Sins of thy Beloved, Betray My Secrets, Tristania, Draconian, Estatic Fear. Later, the music became faster, instrumental parts became more complicated and exceeded the scope of gothic doom, but, nevertheless, the aesthetic melody and gloomy atmosphere remain the hallmark of the band until now. Along with the change in style, it was decided to change the name of the band to Thy Despair.

Since 2008, the band has been active live all across Ukraine, not only in Kiev clubs, but in Chernihiv, Chernivtsi, Kremenchug, Kharkov.

In 2011, Thy Despair went on a 3-year hiatus and returned in 2014 with new material and fresh lineup and material. In addition to the founder Nephilim, this line-up included Frozt on drums and Nick on keyboard who played in the previous Thy Despair line-up. New vocalist Tatyana Mikhailova (Malinconia) joined the line up along with Ep (Mental Torment, I Miss My Death) became the bass player. In such a composition, the band actively performed in clubs and open-air events. In 2015, Thy Despair experienced new problems with the line-up, after releasing the Ukrainian-language single “Vilny” (2015).  The band took a pause for 2 years.

In 2017, Thy Despair was resurrected in a completely new lineup: Elin – vocal, Nephilim – guitar / growl, Strike (Crisis, Black Cat, Lord of Dust) – guitar, Navka (Dolonі, Censor, No Brakes) – keyboards, Anton (Censor, Black Cat) – bass, Alex (Two Streets) – drums. Everyone contributed something new, and the music of the band started to sound in a new key.

On May 16th, 2018 Thy Despair released their EP album called “The Free One” which included 3 tracks: “The Free One”, “Sabbath”, and “War”. The lyrics were strongly influenced by the war in Ukraine. Man’s aspiration for freedom and his scramble with insidious creatures willing to enslave his body, mind, and soul was the main idea the band developed in its lyrics.

The band decided to release the EP album in two variants: in Ukrainian and in English languages. This decision was made in order to get across to the English speaking audience the idea of liberating struggle and aspiration for freedom of nation in general and personality in particular. A limited number of CDs with Ukrainian language version were also released.

During 2018-2019, Thy Despair performed locally in Kieve along with performance on Ukrainian open-air festivals Black Sea Metal Fest and Rock Bulava.

In May of 2019, the band has released a tribute to Game of Thrones main theme on Youtube. This release included a video of the most epic moments of the series with Thy Despair’s unique authorial vision of how original music should sound like. The song also has authored lyrics inspired by Game of Thrones series.

Now in 2020, Thy Despair will unleash their first full length “The Song of Isolation” via Italy based label Rockshots Records on May 8th.

All-star modern metal band IMONOLITH has released the latest in their weekly video series “The Quarantine Sessions”, a playthrough for the track ‘Dig’ from the debut album “State of Being” unleashed this past March.

Watch the playthrough today via Revolver HERE.

Vocalist Jon Howard comments on the song and his editing skills:

“WaaaaaSuuuup!? Jon here. As you may know, our ‘Quarantine Session’ videos are being released every Monday. What you may not know, is each week I gather videos from the guys and use my editing skills to create the playthrough videos myself! I work very hard on these and aim to make them a bit different each time for your viewing pleasure.

The next quarantine video release is for our song ‘Dig’ from our debut album ’State of Being.’ I can’t wait for you guys to see how intense we’ve made this one! ‘Dig’ has a really heavy groove and hits hard, I can’t help but bang my head when this tune comes on! The lyrics can come across pretty harsh, as well. For example, ‘Taste the dirt before you close your eyes.’ Basically, I feel like I’m yelling at someone who is digging their own grave with all the bad choices they’ve made… I am screaming directly into the camera during this video, so it’ll seem like I’m yelling at you? Haha. Whatever it takes to get the vibe across!

Anyways. It was a really fun video to make and it comes across really intense! ‘Dig’ is a heavy hitter and does not let up. Hope you dig it! Cheers.”

The album features special guest appearances from Jens Kidman (Meshuggah) and famed Swedish vocalist Johannes Eckerström and is made up of 10 hook-laden, riff-heavy tracks that center around the theme of how people deal with various stages of life.

The album has already seen the release of four singles and videos – ‘Hollow’, the 2019 debut single that made big waves, racking up 216K Spotify streams, ‘Instinct’, ‘Dig’; and the most recent single, ‘Becoming The Enemy’. With the release of these singles, Imonolith has already received worldwide praise that has garnered them a massive number of streams and attention from the media and fans alike.

“‘State of Being’ is built on a backbone of pure heaviness, hard-hitting riffs and irresistible hooks which keep the album burning at high intensity from start to finish.” – Sonic Perspectives

Set to unleash their fourth studio album “The Last Extinction” on May 22, 2020, Montreal melodic death metal quintet [EVERTRAPPED] are offering up pre-order of the upcoming full-length for only $1.

“We figured since the most accessible place for music now is online and has been for a while, we just said the hell with it, sell it for a buck. We just want people to hear and love it. So enjoy folks, it’s the closest thing to free!” says vocalist James Brookes.

The album pre-order is available on Bandcamp HERE.

The release’s two first two singles are also streaming at the following links:

Music Video ‘Sorrow (Nothing More In Between) ‘ HERE.

Lyric Video ‘Truth Behind Disorder’ HERE.

“The Last Extinction” is a mix of the band’s sound that was defined on “The Anomaly” (2012) and “Under The Deep” (2015). With influences ranging from death metal to melodic death primarily, along with some classic thrash and speed metal, which explains their technicality and diversity sonically, the album overall will give fans a very heavy post-apocalypse feel. It’s meant to mix the dark and light of the end of all things. Fans of Arch Enemy, Persefone, Whitechapel, Death, and Fleshgod Apocalypse will feel the whirlwind of aggression.

Since 2007, [Evertrapped] has brought together their collective experience from the Montreal metal scene to create their heavy brand of melodic death metal. The guitarists Frederick Dupuis (ex-Daggerfalls) and Vincent Benoit hammer out raw guitar while drummer Eric Lemire (ex-Apocalypsys, ex-Ice Castle) pummels the drums. Their versatile frontman James Brookes (ex-Ammonia, ex-One Final Moment, Continuum) easily alternates between strong clear vocals and low bellowing screams giving listeners the illusion of more than one vocalist. John Yates (ex-AraPacis) weaves together each song with his driving bass lines to keep the energy of the punishing track at an all-time high.

Their lyrics come from two places. One from the dark and exaggerated metaphors for things actually based on personal events. The other is lyrics that are only loosely based in reality and have an almost fantasy-like appeal. Sometimes the reality can be based on what could be the actual state of the world as it is or an image of a future where the world is on the brink of an apocalypse. The overall idea is that the lyrics are not meant to be understood at face value in any way. It’s an art form that’s open to interpretation by the listener.

[Evertrapped]’s new album “The Last Extinction” will be also available for stream and download on Spotify and Apple Music as of May 22nd.

Track Listing:
1. Sorrow (Nothing More In Between) (7:35)
2. Truth Behind Disorder (5:30)
3. Across The Disease (5:49)
4. Titan (5:52)
5. The First Machine (5:59)
6. The Last Extinction (6:10)
7. Illusion (7:08)
8. Stillborn Era (5:26)
9. Learning To Kill (7:52)

“If you’re looking for some heavy Lamb Of God vibes, heavier than the newer Lamb Of God has to offer, this is the band you’ve been needing in your life. The main chunk of the song(Sorrow (Nothing More In Between)) is straight to the point heavy metal. Harsh, aggressive, and ready to go.” – Metal Injection

‘’Those looking for melodic death metal on the heavier end of the spectrum need apply here…be ready to pump some fists, bang some heads, and reminisce back to a time when melodic death metal wasn’t all about clean, poppy choruses – just raw and memorable carnage.’’  – Dead Rhetoric

“I’ve played with some of the best metal drummers in the world and I’d put you up alongside them any day!” – Jeff Waters (Annihilator guitarist)

“Evertrapped, and as they lay their claim as one of the front runners of melodic death metal in all of the land” – Bucket List Music Reviews

‘’This is Headbanging 101, take your seat.’’  – Metal Trenches

‘’It’s clear these guys are not followers. They make their own brand of Melodic Death.’’  – Metal France

‘’If you want your dose of Melodic Death to be as brutal as possible, you won’t be disappointed with Under The Deep.’’ – Metal Universe

‘’Under The Deep is a full-throttle melodic death metal release that endlessly descends into new layers of carnage as the album progresses.’’  – Worship Metal

Nestled in the small northern Norwegian town of Alta, far above the Arctic circle, there’s a rumbling of brutality shaking the earth from a young, dynamic metal quintet known as Féleth. Creating heavy, melodic assaults, that transcends the traditional limits of the genre, these great northern Norwegians, are taking their influences of death metal, thrash, deathcore, rock and even elements of Jazz to unleash to the world their debut album “Depravity” due out via DeadPop Records on May 22, 2020.

The album was mixed and mastered by death metal legend, Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy, Shadow of Intent, The Agonist, Beyond Creation) at The Grid Productions. The album also features guest vocals from hometown hero, singer/songwriter Petter Carlsen.

Lyrically the album pulls away from traditional death metal tropes, to also criticize capitalism, pollution, fake news, and the depravity of humanity at large. Musically, the full length features beautiful melodic leads, heavy chugging guitars, bass solo’s, fast intricate drum work, and the huge vocal range from the lead vocalist, Espen Dagenborg.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 8, 2020

For fans of Katatonia, Anathema, Amorphis

Rockshots Records: Sinisthra (ft. Amorphis’ Tomi Joutsen) New Music Video ‘Eterne’

New Album “The Broad and Beaten Way” Out May 15th via Rockshots Records

Finland’s Sinisthra featuring Amorphis vocalist Tomi Joutsen are sharing the new music video for single ‘Eterne’ off their forthcoming album, “The Broad and Beaten Way” due out May 15, 2020 via Rockshots Records.

Listen to ‘Eterne’ at the following links:
Music Video HERE.
Spotify HERE.

The band adds:

‘”Eterne’ is the most straight- forward song on the album, almost a total opposite to the first single “Closely Guarded Distance”. It’s the album opener and sets the stage for things to come, with the expulsion from Eden taking place and everything irredeemably changed. The video was shot in a ruined house that was my childhood home. It solidifies the fact that things can’t be reversed although some echoes might remain of what used to be.”

Best described as sadness tinged with despair and hope, “The Broad and Beaten Way” encapsulates raw emotion set against heavy and brooding music. This album comes 15 years after the debut record “Last of the Stories of Long Past Glories”, and its manifestation has been a slow and arduous process. The songs were written ages ago while other projects, primarily vocalist Tomi Joutsen’s presence in Amorphis, were given priority from the band members.

Guitarist Markku Mäkinen writes the majority of the music for the highly elusive band whose original and complex sound has often been mislabeled. The band explains the evolution of their music:

“We all had a history in thrash and death metal bands, but when the band originally came together in 2000, there was not much metal at all in the sound, it was leaning more towards grunge and at times trip-hop. After the first album in 2005, the sound took a lot more metallic turn, and something came in from 70’s prog as well. Metal genres are irrelevant to us.”

The name for the album comes from “Paradise Lost” by John Milton; “The Broad and Beaten Way” is a bridge from Hell to Earth with the lyrics taking inspiration from the fall of man, and from leading a chaotic and self-destructive modern-day life and trying to find solid ground and perhaps even some peace of mind. “Eterne” is the first song, where the metaphorical Adam and Eve are expelled, both from Eden and from their union, and in the last song “Ephemeral” Adam, solitary, finally accepts his past actions as futile.

The melancholic sojourn, suitable for fans of Katatonia, Anathema, and Amorphis is available for pre-order at the following links:

About:

SINISTHRA comes from Finland and has been in various stages of existence since 1999. Their style of music is basically metal, drawing from a wide source of different influences and blending them to a sound that can’t really be compared to any one single band. Always quite melancholic, most of the time quite heavy, and often with strong shades of 70’s prog with lesser shades of 90’s grunge.

The name SINISTHRA derives from the Italian word sinistra, meaning “the left side” and representing the allegory of creativity, femininity, individuality and general free-thinking pathways of the Left Hand, without the hollow “satanic” or any other religious connotations. The lyrics veer away from most commonly used themes and focus heavily on more personal and intimate subjects. Sinisthra is all about contrasts, frail yet crushing, sad yet content, silent but roaring. Melancholy without utter despair. Darkness tinged with light. Gravel covered with honey. The only dogma is never to acknowledge musical boundaries, and never to use the words “love” and “death” in the lyrics.

The band released one album in 2005, called “Last Of The Stories Of Long Past Glories” to favourable reviews and got labeled “gothic metal”, somewhat misleadingly, but as the singer Tomi Joutsen joined Amorphis, his career skyrocketed and Sinisthra’s didn’t, so due to lack of time from his part, things slowed down.

Now Sinisthra has completed their second album “The Broad And Beaten Way” and are ready to finally release it. The road has been long, winding and mostly uphill, and promises to remain so in the future as well.

Party Grinders KILLITOROUS Premiere “The Afterparty” Album Stream via Decibel Mag

New Album “The Afterparty” Out May 22, 2020 – Tentacles Industries (Worldwide), Self-Release (North America)

Album guests from Voivod, Allegaeon, Soen, Blackguard, Cryptopsy, Firewind and more!

Canada’s tech-death comedy metal band KILLITOROUS (consisting of members from Annihilator, Suffocation, First Fragment and more!) are sharing an early surprise for fans with an exclusive preview on Decibel Magazine of their new album “The Afterparty” before it officially drops on May 22nd.

The band adds:

“The Afterparty” is our sophomore effort, after many years of growing as musicians, friends and as a band. Since “Party, Grind” was released in 2014, we’ve all individually joined hard-hitting and somewhat legendary bands and worked as sessions musicians for such bands as Annihilator, Suffocation, First Fragment, and more. We are more than stoked to show you our growth with our tremendous new line-up including a new vocalist and bassist, as well as the addition of a third guitar player. Similar to our debut release, this album is rammed full of blast beats, sweeps, shred, nasty vocals and 90’s movie references. This new album features three guitars and as such is very dense harmonically, with very full arrangements and varies in styles across the metal genre. Besides more intense guitars and more solos, this album is a testament to our evolution as songwriters and features some of our catchiest songs/riffs to date. We hope you all enjoy it as much as we do!

Get “The Afterparty” started via Decibel Magazine HERE.

KILLITOROUS’ new album “The Afterparty” was co-produced, mixed, and mastered by Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy, Despised Icon, The Agonist, Shadow of Intent) at The Grid in Montreal, Quebec.

Looking to become the band they never saw, Killitorous is comprised of the passion to grind and the general love of technical death metal.

Formed in 2006 in Ottawa, Canada; Killitorous is made up of current and former members of Annihilator, Suffocation, First Fragment and a myriad of other bands. Determined to sound like a combination of their one million favorite death metal bands they envelop technical death metal in an eternal party. A bit cheeky and a metric fuck ton of fun, Killitorous is that raunchy but charismatic friend who fuels every party.

Killitorous is a chaotic concoction, best described as technical party chaos death grind and it’s a true 90s death metal experience complete with one hell of an AfterParty!

“the group has expanded their line-up to adopt a triple-guitar attack within a tech-death setting and the results are f’ing awesome. ” – Metal Injection

“This Canadian death metal band is a party in black wifebeaters. In their video for the aptly-titled “Married With Children,” Killitorous hired a middle-aged woman to get crazy in the pit of a basement show. Excellent work, gentlemen.” – Loudwire

“Well F*ck me lifeless with possibility and throw my rotting corpse down a well with joy; if such an album hasn’t become manifest. It’s here for all to relish in the form of PartyGrind by Canada’s own Killitorous.” – The Circle Pit

Oozing with rock n roll vibes, Junkowl is coming for ya out of Montreal. A slick combination of stoner riffs, hardcore energy, and groovy bass, this is party animal blues. Expect their debut album “Making Out With My Death” on June 5, 2020.

As a whole, the album is a slow dark ride. Heavy riffs; big dirty bass lines, in your face drums and gut-wrenching screams telling tales of self-loathing, confusion, and intoxication. This is a solid album, something to enjoy with a few beers, smoke a joint, and bang your head off for 30 minutes. Vocalist Jesse Frechette explains the lyrical content on the album:

“Most of my lyrics are about past regrets or self-destructive behaviour. Kind of indulging in negative thoughts and emotions. A lot of them were written while I was wasted. I like to think that the next album will have a much different lyrical theme but hey, old habits die hard.”

This gritty take on real-life issues is confronted with the video form single ‘Crawling Up My Feet’, a song about “falling in love with someone when you’re depressed or struggling with addiction, and essentially about how it’s pretty much impossible to love someone properly when you don’t love yourself.”

For fans of Cancer Bats, Every Time I Die, and System of a Down; the video for ‘Crawling Up My Feet’ can be watched via its premiere on Lambgoat HERE.

About:

Heavy, sexy, and southern. Those are the best words to describe Montreal’s Junkowl.

Formed in 2017, their unique blend of groove metal, stoner, and hardcore is matched with high energy ‘in your face’ performances. A year earlier Jesse Frechette (vocals) met Dom Labrie (drums) and after a few jams they picked up Marco Larosa (guitar) and Samuel Matte (bass) and the rest is history. The writing process is a collaborative one, with melodies and vocals usually forming on the spot.

Moving through the underground music scene, Junkowl quickly made a name for themselves when they won the 2019 ‘En Route Vers Heavy Montreal’; a competition between nearly 200 bands, landing them a spot at that year’s edition of renowned metal festival Heavy Montreal.

On June 5th, 2020, they will release their debut album, “Making Out With My Death”, a 10 track record full of sultry and powerful songs about past regrets and self-destructive behaviour. It includes the band’s favourite “10,000 Vultures”, the first song Junkowl ever wrote, which was completed after the first jam together. Almost all the lyrics were freestyle during that jam.

With no sign of slowing down, Junkowl has more tunes in the works and pouring passion into their live performances and newly recorded tunes. Stay tuned for party animal blues; fat spliffs and heavy riffs.

Edmonton’s OMNIARCH Premiere Full Stream of Debut Album via TechnicalMusicReview

Self-Titled Album Out May 8th

Set to unleash their debut self-titled album on Friday, May 8, 2020, Edmonton progressive death metallers Omniarch are sharing with fans a full stream preview of the release.

A unique journey through history, mythology, imagination, and learning through introspection and reflection. The seven-track full length is a composite of progressive and technical death metal, played by five seasoned musicians that bring an eclectic set of skills to the band.

“Most of the tracks were loosely arranged by our guitarist Mason, before Omniarch’s inception. Morgan, our second guitarist, learned the songs over time, and added, changed, and fleshed out parts. We brought the more complete versions of the songs to the full band, and everything took off quickly. Our debut album is our full, headlining set, and plays great in the track listing order of the release. We are already working on an EP of all 7 string songs to follow, as well as working on another EP more indicative of our current sound/tuning. We released what we had up until now, and pride ourselves on our fecundity as a band. We have plenty of music coming down the pipe.”  says the band.

Omniarch is recommended for anyone with an interest in melodic, technical, relentless death metal, especially fans of The Black Dahlia Murder, The Absence, and Arsis.

About:
Omniarch was formed from the ashes of two former bands, Netherward and This is War. Morgan Lambert (guitar), Mason Wilson (guitar), Jon Hofmann (bass), Mackenzie LaHaye (vocals), and  Henry Giesbrecht (drums) who had played gigs together in separate bands, had always entertained the idea of joining forces. Eventually, conditions allowed for the amalgamation of the two bands into a new and wholly different alloy of metal and formed the beginning of Omniarch.

Giesbrecht, the original drummer, added a new dynamic to the band with his fresh approach to metal song structures. Eventually, Giesbrecht moved on and made way for Sean Higgins to step in and make his own indelible mark on the band with his nuanced sense of rhythm and pace. The disparate and yet congruous influences have come together to showcase a truly unique and exciting band, full of opportunity.

Each Omniarch song starts with a collaboration between Wilson and Lambert to determine the riffs, which are then brought to the rhythm section where they are morphed into a  cohesive idea that is splattered with aggressive technical death metal vocals with themes surrounding history, fantasy/science fiction, and mythology.

Omniarch is just getting started, as of spring 2020 they have a fresh self-titled release out on May My 8th with plenty more music coming down the pipe. Watch out for them on the live circuit and take your chance to witness a compelling live show that challenges boundaries.

“Omniarch come our way from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and they don’t come timidly. Their formulation of technical and progressive death metal absolutely blazes with exuberant spirit, technical virtuosity, and turbocharged energy, while incorporating memorable melodic and atmospheric accents. It’s the kind of music that will likely find welcome among fans of such bands as Revocation, Inferi, and The Black Dahlia Murder. ” – No Clean Singing

“Fire and fury with a really strong technical edge, Omniarch live and breathe their metal, choking all who share the same space…. Ursa Major is one hell of a closer. The drums and guitars taking the mood down to dark places, the vocals the sound of hellish noise in the shadows. Then out of the blue the band throw out an absolute beast of a guitar solo. It’s momentously heavy stuff.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Ohn Cairn is brutal, death metal with shredding solos, and some cool melodic moments!” – Ghost Cult Mag

“The Canadian crew combines a technical and melodic sound not many newer bands achieve these days and it’s rather impressive.” – Technical Music Review

“Omniarch have furnished us all with an excellent record.” – Wicked Metal Review

“an ambitious Melodic Death Metal act that are clearly reaching for an individual sound on their self-titled debut.” – The Metal Crypt
