Caveat has been making music together for the better part of two decades and in that time they have put out five records, the most recent of which is the soon-to-be-released “Alchemy” that has been a few years in the making. This long-running band has made a name for themselves in the Canadian metal scene all the while refusing to be constricted to the genre rules and employing a vast array of influences and techniques in their music. This upcoming full-length is no different as it is progressive, aggressive and keeps the listener on their toes as they experience this complex and detailed musical offering.

The band says that they have been getting steadily more progressive since 2004 when guitarist Joe Sikorski joined the fray. With him, he brought many possibilities in the realm of guitar harmonies and his virtuosic skills as a soloist. They continue to say that they definitely peaked as far as technical prowess on 2006’s Red, but the twin guitars, cross vocalization and wide variety of styles and songs have been a trademark of Caveat for almost 20 years. There is still innovation to be had though which they explain further:

“The creation of Alchemy has been one that has taken a few years to come to fruition, due to the stage and challenges of the modern world, but with that, we feel like the subject matter and music is more relevant than ever dealing with subjects such as addiction, the loss of a loved one, personal growth and even finding that light at the end of the tunnel. Being the band is now going on two decades of making music together, Alchemy is the first album putting newest member Amanda Marie Bourdon on lead vocal duties. She joined during the recording of our last album showing a glimpse of her vocal potential; this time around Amanda steps into the limelight as the main vocalist, which still sharing vocal duties with Greg Musgrave, but offering a new, fresh take on the Caveat sound taking the listener to uncharted territories that have turned out amazing.”

Once again, Caveat proves that they still have a trick up their sleeves and are fully prepared to give fans something new and enticing, yet familiar to enjoy. Heavily focused on personal experiences, the lyrics on “Alchemy” are both dark and light with switches in feeling and; mood ever-changing throughout the album.

Recommended for fans of Devin Townsend, Megadeth, and Meshuggah, “Alchemy” releases officially on February 11th and can be heard in full via its album stream premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

About:

Caveat was formed in mid-2001 by founding members Greg Musgrave on guitar and vocals, Jawad Baloch on drums & Terry Baldwin on bass & backing vocals. Shortly afterward Casey Rogers was asked to join as the new drummer of Caveat. This lineup would go on to record and release the debut album ‘The Biggest Secret’, which they released on May 14th of 2003.

After supporting the album, Caveat decided to expand and recruited Joe Sikorski in 2004 to the second guitar, who had been playing with Thorazine since the mid-’90s.

During 2005 Caveat partnered up with Scarab Productions to record and release a self-titled EP, which ended up landing on numerous campus radio charts and found the band playing larger shows than ever before. After parting ways with Scarab Production in late 2006, the sound of the band evolved yet again, writing more progressive and technical sounding songs, resulting in their 2007 magnum opus full-length album entitled ‘Red’.

To release ‘Red’ Caveat partnered up with Toronto-based indie record label Cyclone Records. To the band’s delight, ‘Red’ was very well received in the metal community and the band played more than ever in & around Western Canada.

Just prior to the release of ‘Red’ several members would branch off and form the deathgrind side project Exit Strategy with Shane Hawco (ex-Thorazine). Exit Strategy quickly became popular in the Western Canadian extreme metal scene. In 2008, after a successful several-year run, Caveat would elect to go into indefinite hiatus to focus on Exit Strategy.

Five years later saw the brief reformation of the band when Calgary Metalfest organizer ‘Big’ Nate Reno asked Caveat to reform to play the inaugural festival in the summer of 2013, and the band obliged. Original bassist Terry Baldwin elected to not be involved with the reunion show, so Caveat turned to former Verbal Deception and current Illuminated Minerva bass player Matt Petti to handle bass duties for the Metalfest performance. After that short hiatus, the band officially reformed at the end of 2014 with Matt Petti replacing Terry Baldwin permanently on bass duties.

Songwriting began for a new album while playing a handful of shows and several metal festivals across western Canada. Recording began in May 2015 and the new album entitled ‘Consummation’ was released on June 24th, 2016. ‘Consummation’ was also a moment of further evolution of Caveat, as local musician Amanda Marie Bourden was asked to join the band as keyboard player and second lead vocalist. Amanda accepted the invitation, and her powerful vocals were featured throughout ‘Consummation’ providing a great contrast to Greg’s clean & brutal vocal attack.

In 2017 and 2018, writing commenced for the album and would feature new vocalist Amanda as more of the primary voice in the new material. This culminated into the most diverse ambitious collection of songs to date. Then in late 2019, recording began for the new album with both Joe and Casey handling main production duties this time. Production was completed in late 2020, but due to the Covid pandemic-related shutdowns, the band decided to shelve its release for the duration of 2021 as a result.

Now Caveat’s delayed fifth album, entitled ‘Alchemy’, is for release in early 2022, and once again Caveat promises to deliver a majestic metallic assault on the senses. Stay tuned and expect the unexpected.

Album and Live Band Line Up:
Amanda Marie Bourdon: Vocals & Keyboards
Greg Musgrave: Guitar & Vocals
Joe Sikorski: Guitars
Matt Petti: Bass
Casey Rogers: Drums

Toronto’s Depleted Uranium are blasting out a nuclear fallout of grindcore, math-metal, and power-violence with their new music video “Alpha Particles”, which is only the start of their two-part animated video story that will continue with “Beta Particles” later this month. The videos are in support of the band’s new album “Origins”, unleashed on Jan 28th of this year.

The band explains “Alpha Particles” in further detail:

“Alpha Particles was an early abomination from within the first 4 rehearsals as Depleted Uranium, prior to having a bass player. It was the song that defined us at that time and instantly became a favourite to play live and at rehearsal. It was also our first 5/4 time in a song, which aided future songwriting and it evolved our dual vocals, which are existential and abstract. First released on our 3 song demo in 2006, Alpha Particles was later recorded in Summer 2010 for the Origins recording, 1 take live off the floor.”

Watch and listen to the decay of the heaviest metal elements from “Alpha Particles” via its video premiere on Bravewords HERE.

“Origins” is a fast, aggressive 20-minute journey with existential lyrics delivered with full throttle vocals, coupled with technical melodies and harmonies that bring you to your bad place. It is meant to obliterate negative energy and make life a better place as everyone has something to scream for or about.

“It has been a long time since the recording of Origins. Life, death, and everything in between have blessed and burdened us along our journey. Some say “it is not relevant” or “why not release new material”; for us, this is unreleased material and it’s part of our journey of perspective, and accompanied by the pandemic lockdown. We’ve never been a band to do what people expect, so expect us to do things differently and to not fit in as that’s part of us. That being said, we will always attempt to deliver 100% in music and writing, rehearsing and performing our music, with or without a witness as to us, our time together is sacred, meaningful, and requires sacrifice from all members to exist.” adds the band.

“Origins” is Depleted Uranium‘s history of who they are and where they come from. It is meant to be listened to in reference to their self-titled, debut release; to give a perspective that will also further be referenced in their future releases. Both lyrics and music hold a high tension and are expressed without hesitation. Both are relevant to their time and space of creation and are embodied with existential yet direct meaning. The album as a whole is a statement of youth being dissatisfied with the existing conditions of reality and channeling our experience into what it is today. “If one cannot withstand the hot glow of anger upon the discovery of a wrong, then time is wasted thinking deeply”. Depleted Uranium‘s band name, their lyrics, and their music are a product of the system with the right individuals as the recipe. Their message on Origins” is to strive from personal freedom and to focus on what you want rather than what you don’t.

Loud, technical, and confident, “Origins” is recommended for fans of Converge, Charles Bronson, and Dillinger Escape Plan.

The album is available on all digital platforms along with the physical CD including an exclusive bonus track available on Depleteduranium238.bandcamp.com.

“The music (which could be thought of as a blending of powerviolence and math metal) genuinely sounds insane — furiously so — and yet something about the experience makes sense. Not just because it sounds like people throwing away mental shackles and conventions, but also because the music simultaneously gets its hooks in your head. There’s a sense of order and precision of execution in it, at the same time as it seems completely disruptive of order.” – No Clean Singing

“Aside from grind, you’re getting a decent dose of mathcore, but even more often, the music veers into territory that I think would appeal to screamo fans. These parts are governed by clean-ish, anguished vocals and additionally infused with melancholy by the guitar. While they do the most to define the mood of the album, I’d still hesitate to pigeonhole it, as the band pivots from style to style often enough to give the music a nicely weird, free-form feel. If you’d like a take on the post-nuclear apocalypse that isn’t filled with boring zombies and mutants, look no further.” – Toilet Ov Hell

“All in all, “Origins” pretty much kicked me in the balls and announces that here is a new force to be reckoned with in the grindcore world.” – Wormwood Chronicles

“It’s carnage but carnage you’ll want to experience over and over again.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Origins is a deliciously disgusting album, there transpires a form of sincerity, without artifice or make-up. In about twenty minutes, Depleted Uranium will take you apart like a puzzle! This music is so visceral that it explodes the stomach and the ears.” – Aux Portes du Metal

“‘Origins’ is not only an impressive feat for a one take live performance, but it really has a lot of violent energy and the twenty minutes or so flies in. You sometimes find that powerviolence/grindcore can be a little one note (I know, I know, it’s kinda the point) but Depleted Uranium’s work has a lot more variety to it and isn’t merely noise for music’s sake. If you like your music ugly, visceral and yet a bit thought provoking then Depleted Uranium are going to be for you!” – The Killchain Blog

Rockshots Records – New Music Video – Ride SANDNESS’ Rock n’ Roll “High Tide”

New Album “Play Your Part” Out May 2022

Italian classic 80’s hair metal-inspired band SANDNESS will be releasing their fourth studio album entitled “Play Your Part” this coming May 2022 via Rockshots Records. The album follows their two previous released records on Rockshots Records, 2020 EP “Enter Please (2020) and 2019 LP “Untamed”.

The new album is produced, mixed and mastered by Michele Guaitoli and features twelve original tracks including a bonus cover version of KISS’ “Turn On The Night”. The lyrics written for the full length give an insight to how the band kept themselves busy and entertained during the first lockdown in the spring of 2020.

The band comments:

““Play Your Part” is a different kind of animal from our previous releases, due to the lockdown, we had more time to think and work on the songs. We also worked a lot more with our producer Michele, who helped us bring our music to the next level. The new album is more mature and inspired by different styles: hard rock, classic rock, heavy metal, 70’s rock n’ roll, but also pop music from different decades. Overall, we want people to feel good when they listen to our songs. We feel our music brings you to a dimension where everything is solvable with some dance moves or some headbanging. Give you the bright side of things to escape the difficult times.”

Today, SANDNESS shares the first single off the full length. Entitled “High Tide”, the record’s opening track is heavily influenced by the rock gods of the 70’s. Producer Michele Guaitoli came up with the idea to add rock piano on the track, which gives it an Elton John influence.

Rockshots Records announces their signing of Hilltops Are For Dreamers for the release of their debut album “In Disbelief” due out on March 25th.

“In Disbelief” is a world of extremes and vastly different to the band’s musical past. It blends black metal with acoustic blues melodies, while flirting with progressive structures and heavy riffing, along with exploring electronic and cinematic paths, but often visiting their post-hardcore roots. The record is meant to be a journey from a gloomy emotional state to a possible healing point through the process of realization. It is divided into three parts, Shadows, which is the dark unfolding of the path, Overturn, where the growing consciousness leads to the hope of a better self, and Awakening, which depicts a moment of revival and prospective remedy.

The band comments on their signing:

“Vasilis and the band are really excited for this album. It’s a step forward from all perspectives. The sound and the music are so unique and personal, whilst at the same time, anyone could find these elements they really like and attach to them respectively. ‘In Disbelief’ explores different musical genres and spans from mellow to extreme, while staying faithful to melody and heaviness. The band moves away from its metalcore past, but keeps some of these roots blended with various influences from the wider metal scene, allowing them to experiment with new and unpaved paths at the same time. The band is very proud to be part of Rockshots Records, making this album the first official label release. The future seems to be bright and there is nothing to stop it!!!”

For the album’s mixing and mastering, they teamed up once again with Steve Lado at SL Studios. The album was also crowd-funded and its first single “Revival” will be released in the coming weeks by an accompanied animated music video directed by Haris Kountouris-HK Visual Creations (Sabaton, Rotting Christ).

Hilltops Are For Dreamers are recommended for fans of Opeth, Thrice and Soilwork.

About:

Hilltops Are For Dreamers (HAFD) is an ambitious project that took shape and form in London around 2018 by Vasilis Papageorgakopoulos. However, they pride themselves in being a multinational band, specifically, UK and Greece-based. The band was born through the ashes of the five-piece Greek metalcore act ‘From Zero To Hero, (FO2H)’ that was disbanded in 2012 immediately after the release of their debut album and Dionysus Maratos (ex-FO2H, Celene) was the only one who joined HAFD in their first steps.

Since 2018, the band has managed to self-release their first ‘self-titled’ EP (January 2020) in digital format, receiving a number of positive reviews, including Metal Hammer, Greece (07/10). Mainly focused on a post-hardcore direction, the EP has successfully blended early ‘00s metalcore elements with blues licks and catchy melodies. One lyric and a unique music video have also been produced to support the achievement.

Additionally, during the first Covid-19 lockdown, they wrote and then released the split digital EP ‘A Transition’ (July 2020) with the fellow band ‘Repent For Joy’, pushing their music a step further. That release was accompanied by a music video for the song ‘The Tide’, featuring Michael Enger, who also does vocals on the debut album, ‘In Disbelief’.

What first began as a studio project by Vasilis Papageorgakopoulos from the unfulfilled musical restlessness of the past has become a strong collaboration of fellow international musicians to create and record.

In the end, everyone’s goal remains the same; to create influential music following the vision of a no-boundaries-physical or not-world where people connect with sounds and emotions.

Fun Facts:

The artwork photographs were taken over the years by Vasilis in the UK, he never thought that they could be used to synthesize the album inner booklet, but now they are. They challenge fans to find out where some of the pics are from, especially the one in the ‘Awakening’ part of the booklet.

Some of the lyrics were written/conceptualized by Vasilis while he traveled to work by train before the Covid era. Also, some of them are the outcome of just singing while strolling/walking around the streets of London.

Chicago’s neo-classical melodic death outfit BURNED IN EFFIGY unleashed their latest album this past January 28th. The full-length follows their debut EP “Terrestrial”, which was all instrumental. With the addition of vocalist Mark “Smedy” Smedbron, the fury of a new monster was born for the next chapter of the band. “Rex Mortem” was recorded with guitarists Vito Bellino and Brad Dose, whom soon after parted ways and saw live guitarists Steve Bacakos and Mike Hisson take over shredding duties. The three new members join co-founding members Eddie Dec (Drums) and Matt Watkins (Bass) to push forward a new front supporting this epic record that has been called by Brutalism.com “One of the first strong albums of 2022…”.

Today, in support of the record, Burned In Effigy are showing fans their love of the retro with an 8-bit remix of their track “Artorias” by M. Marsh. On the album, “Artorias” has the most emphasis of groove. It has multiple movements, including a Latin-influenced clean departure in the middle of it. Starting with a syncopated riff that really comes together with the drums’ half-time groove, going into a verse section with a thundering double kick pattern. The middle section continues the groove between the bass and drums, and the final section builds into a climactic finale with a ripping guitar solo.

The band adds about the 8-bit video:

“A lot of the band members, both old and new, have a love for video games, and especially fond memories of the ones we grew up with. There’s a kind of simplistic, bare-bones beauty to old 8-bit and 16-bit music, and many of us have been musically influenced by video game soundtracks throughout the years. We wanted to represent this with an 8-bit version of one of our songs, and Artorias seemed perfect for it. The name was taken from a character from Dark Souls, and the music was supposed to encapsulate the journey of a hero as they become corrupted by the very forces they fight against. The multiple sections of the song allowed for multiple different moods expressed through 8-bit sounds, and it just ended up sounding awesome to us. We had a video created for it to emulate the feel of a Game Boy/Super Nintendo-era start screen and tease the idea of if our music was written to be in a video game as opposed to being played by a death metal band. We want to keep incorporating some of these references from games that helped shaped who we are, such as in our recent NES Castlevania-style shirt that helps bridge this concept with our Nosferatu-based lyric video for Nightfall.”

Listen to the 8-bit version of “Artorias” at https://youtu.be/U2Vavk6mhiE

The album version for “Artorias” can be heard at https://youtu.be/9ZlM_T9vTrY

“Rex Mortem” is a high-energy recording, but also diverse. It takes elements from multiple subgenres within metal, mainly melodic death and progressive, while infusing neoclassical elements into each track. No two tracks sound the same. Burned In Effigy skillfully and tastefully changed keys and time signatures throughout, so the feel of their music is constantly shifting, but also smoothly flows between each section. Lyrically, the album is the introduction of a tale of a tyrannical king’s rule and demise, including some other minor themes and stories from mythology and classic literature.

Bassist Matt Watkins adds:

“We are psyched to present our debut album, Rex Mortem, a catalog of the first chapter of the band. This has been in the works for a long time and we couldn’t be more pleased with how it has turned out. The songs vary in complexity and intensity and demonstrate our growth as a band since its inception. Listeners will hear influences such as The Black Dahlia Murder and The Human Abstract, combining our love for death metal and progressive/neo-classical metal. The vocals are gritty and tense and the lyrics emphasize this with dark tales inspired by mythology, history, and classic literature. We believe our album has something for all metal fans, regardless of preferred subgenre.”

Album order for “Rex Mortem” is available at Burnedineffigy.bandcamp.com (CD) and all other major digital platforms at https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/burnedineffigy/rex-mortem.

“One of the first strong albums of 2022… a very solid debut without much in the way of a bad track. While the band tends to stick to a basic formula and not overpopulate the tracks with clean vocals, keyboards, or guest vocals which tends to the be typical melodeath experience these days “Rex Mortem” is full of infectious riffs that will grab listeners and root them in place for the full ride. Definitely, a band to watch for in 2022. 4/5” – Brutalism

“On this album there’s a sound that was both impressive technically and a lot of fun. Sure, you’re getting technical guitar playing and sinister vocals, but when that neo-classical side of the band hits you can’t help but bounce or sway with the melodies.” – Metal Injection

“Burned In Effigy gild their aggressive, though catchy, melodic death metal with ornate neoclassical melodies that give their violent proceedings a distinctly regal tint.” – Invisible Oranges

“Burned In Effigy, a Neo-classical Melodic Death Metal band from Chicago, weave a sublime meld of classical and progressive elements into their tracks. The result makes their debut full length, Rex Mortem, a stunning and essential listen.” – Metal Talk

“If you’re looking for a talented new band that writes engaging songs and showcases a plethora of stylistic influences, look no further. Burned in Effigy are here to blow you away with their relentlessly catchy debut LP, and you can expect to dig it if you like quality metal, period.” – Noob Heavy

“This record is straight to the point, brutally beautiful, effortlessly ruthless and an incredibly fun listen… I completely vibed with this record and give it a solid 8/10.” – This Day In Metal

“The bombastic guitar soloing on “Vendetta” puts a showmanship quality on the spot…” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“if you’re looking for that ultimate mix of savvy Tech and Melodic Death Metal high on a yet unknown number of energy drinks, Burned in Effigy is your band. 8/10” – Rock Music Raider

Day Of Departure, from Washington D.C are releasing a debut album this year and their first single is ready for ears around the world. An intriguing blend of ambient, prog and post-rock, the band combines that with a well-woven story that tells of the destruction of our planet, and then the need to evolve and find a new path forward for survival. The first single, “…And We Prepare for Our End” is the first track and it sets the scene for the tale to come. The band describes in further detail:

“This song is the first single and leads off the Day of Departure album. It represents the beginning of the journey and shares with the listener the varied sonic landscapes that will be prevalent throughout the album. This track is meant to pique one’s interest in where the story and the music will go. The overall ebb and flow of the amount are guided by the dynamic changes throughout this song. Fans of post-rock, and progressive rock will find elements that appeal to fans of both genres.”

The serene feeling that the track creates slowly evolves into the realization of the imminent demise of the planet. A momentary sense of relief until the outro kicks in to utterly destroy the listener, and all hope fades as does the ending of the song.

The album is intended to take the listener on a journey from utter destruction and despair to a place where there is a new consciousness and reality that will break this unending cycle. The music is intended to provide a wide range of dynamics and atmospheres to elicit an understanding and a vibe for where the listener is within the narrative. The music aims to juxtapose intense sonic blasting with lush and delicate atmospheres.

Coined “Post-rock-alypse with vocals”, Day of Departure is recommended for fans of Lacuna Coil, Cult of Luna and Hammock.

About:

Day of Departure combines elements of post-rock, ambient, progressive rock, and hard rock to arrive at a unique sonic landscape that seeks to balance the varied influences and inspirations from its creators.

Born out of a desire to explore a different musical style that merges their influences with a well-woven narrative, Washington D.C.’s Day of Departure created a story that begins with the destruction of our planet, and then the need to evolve and find a new path forward for survival. They are heavily influenced by a number of different sci-fi stories and comics that echo throughout their music.

Their debut self-titled album is set to be released on March 25, 2022. It was produced and recorded entirely remotely over two years with none of the members working together in person. They currently do not have any plans to play live at the moment, but are looking forward to thinking about how to bring to life the music and vibe that was created on the record.

While writing their debut, several songs didn’t make the cut, yet Day of Departure are already thinking about the next chapter to explore, with some of those songs/ideas being the inspiration or perhaps even the focus of forthcoming music.

0 Canadian Thrashers TRISKELYON (ft. Hyperia, Artach members) Unveil Lyric Video For Speed Demon “Odyssey (Blessed by Steel)”; Debut Self-Titled EP Out Now!

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – February 7, 2022

Canadian Thrashers TRISKELYON (ft. Hyperia, Artach members) Unveil Lyric Video For Speed Demon “Odyssey (Blessed by Steel)”

Debut Self-Titled EP Out Now!

Triskelyon is the new Canadian melodic thrash metal project created by Geoff Waye, guitarist for Artach and Category VI. Conceived in late 2021 as a studio-only project, they recently unleashed their debut self-titled EP this past January 25th. The band features the contributions of vocalists Pete Healey and Marlee Ryley (Hyperia), along with drum programming by Raul Marques (Burning Torment).

Today, they are unveiling their latest lyric video for the fastest and most intense song on the EP, “Odyssey (Blessed by Steel)” featuring vocals from Hyperia‘s Marlee Ryley.

“It’s speedy and full-throttle thrash. The lyrics are again personal and about my musical life journey as told through using song references, which an astute listener may be able to pick up on,” adds Waye.

Watch and listen to the lyric video at https://youtu.be/ucjbzoMWvEY

With anthemic choruses that you can sing along to, speedy head-banging riffs, and just a straight-to-the-point melodic thrash sound, Triskelyon is recommended for fans of Anthrax, Death Angel, Metal Church, Testament, and Forbidden.

Geoff Waye explains the project in further detail:

“The project formed in St. John’s, Newfoundland. It began because I wanted an outlet for more melodic, yet still savage sounding thrashy metal. I wanted to do this as a studio project so I could get things together myself, which means I can do so fairly quickly if I want to. I did all the songs, wrote the lyrics, and play all the guitar and bass on the EP. I cannot play drums, so I found the fantastic Raul Marques. I wanted the vocals to be melodic so after I had the songs together I asked my vocal god friend, Pete Healey, to do some vocals. I sent him what I had and he was into it and you can hear him on tracks “Hunger” and “Find A Way”. The last puzzle piece for the EP is Marlee Ryley – the very versatile vocalist for the killer Canadian band Hyperia. I took a shot in the dark and introduced myself and asked if she’d like to guest on the EP and she agreed to be on the closing track “Odyssey (Blessed by Steel)”

0 Experimental Extreme Music Norway’s YAWN Announce Unconventionally Destructive “Lachrymator II : Lignite”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – February 4, 2022

Experimental Extreme Music Norway’s YAWN Announce Unconventionally Destructive “Lachrymator II : Lignite”

Debut Album “Materialism” Out Feb 18th via MIndsweeper Records

YAWN is unconventional and futuristic, and their upcoming album “Materialism” is a dynamic journey through 37 minutes of continuous music performance. The intention is to make the audience feel like this is something new and they instigate this with the single “Lachrymator II : Lignite”.

The album was composed of small ideas that later evolved into long compositions. The element of improvisation provided a lot of different material to work with and allowed YAWN to compose pieces of music that contrast hard-hitting metal riffs with open improvised soundscapes. The four selected pieces “Cement”, “Chaos”, “Lachrymator” and “Tokamak”, were divided into 3 – 5 shorter “episodes” to make the record fit into the modern digital streaming world plus suit modern attention spans. Although it is meant to be consumed as a continuous music performance, each excerpt stands by itself. The band shares their thoughts on the single:

“It’s the first section of the piece called “Lachrymator”. This song is best known among our fans as the part of the show where Simen goes into an insane mode, smashing a drumstick onto his bass strings like it’s literally the end of the world. The first time he did this during rehearsal, it blew us all away. No distortion or overdrive effect could ever come close to the raw aggressiveness of the sound coming out of his amplifier, while hitting the strings in this way. When we recorded the track, we even changed the drumstick for a screwdriver. The way that bass guitar grinds along with our two guitars in the opening is exactly the pure aggressive energy and rawness we seek in our heavy sound.”

YAWN got together and started working on the material for this record almost three years ago, in that time they worked to develop the sound of the band. Eventually, they developed software specially designed for their needs, which digitally processes the instruments and creates unique digital soundscapes during improvisations.

Creative and bold, YAWN is recommended for those who enjoy the obscure especially those with an interest in Meshuggah, Car Bomb and Vildhjarta.

About:

“Yawn, anything but a bore” – Heavymetal.no

As 2022 begins, Yawn stands at the ready with their first full-length release: “Materialism.” The album reflects the band’s vision of bringing improvisation-based music to the fore in the context of modern concert production. The album features beautiful improvised soundscapes combined with aesthetics drawn from modern progressive metal bands like Meshuggah, Car Bomb, and Vildhjarta.

Yawn’s live performances have been described as a magical experience where improvised, open, and formless soundscapes seamlessly transform into and away from machine- precise rhythms, all without warning from the performers on stage.

Since the band’s debut in 2020, Yawn has released their first single “Cement,” toured across southern Norway, and played for 15000 housebound viewers during a streaming concert from Chateau Neuf in Oslo shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic reached Norway. After the release of Materialism on February 18th, 2022, the band will embark on a European release tour from February 25th to March 9th.

0 Sonic Perspectives Premiere: Canadian Thrashers TYMO Streaming New Album “The Art Of A Maniac”

  • February 3, 2022

  • · Music News · Tymo

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – February 3, 2022

Canadian Thrashers TYMO Streaming New Album “The Art Of A Maniac”

Stream Premiere via Sonic Perspectives

North American / EU Release Date Feb 5th

Japanese Release Date Feb 16th via Spiritual Beast (features exclusive bonus tracks)

Edmonton thrash attack TYMO will be unleashing their new album “The Art Of A Maniac” on February 5th for North America and Europe along with its Japanese release on February 16th via Spiritual Beast and before it officially drops, it can be heard in full via its stream premiere on SonicPerspectives HERE.

“The Art Of A Maniac” follows up 2017’s “Purge & Reset”, which had a more of a melodic thrash/heavy metal sound, whereas the new album is higher energy; the songs are faster, the riffs are heavier, and overall the music is much more technical. Very true to the thrash metal genre, excitedly, vocalist/guitarist Tim Tymo explains further:

“This record is a great representation of where we are at now! Playing live with other thrash bands such as Hazzerd and WMD have definitely influenced this record! It feels good to have finally written a full-on thrash album and it was good to take the extra time over the pandemic and make sure we were satisfied with everything! We pushed our speed and playing boundaries on this record, it’s really different from our last album. Any fans of thrash metal will definitely appreciate this record and we hope it’s added to their collection. It’s definitely our most aggressive and most focused record yet!”

Throughout “The Art Of A Maniac”, listeners will find a common theme of destruction and chaos, lyrically and musically as the album moves through very fast riffs, shreddy solos and thick angry vocals. TYMO touches on subjects of mental illness, alien invasion, civil conflicts, social media, substance abuse and the comedy of Rick & Morty. They are recommended for fans of Lich King, Municipal Waste and Exodus.

“The Art Of A Maniac” was mixed and mastered by Graham Smith at Atreus XO Studios along with the amazing album artwork created by Andrei Bouzikov (Vektor, Municipal Waste, Skeletonwitch, Toxic Holocaust).

“The Art Of A Maniac” will be available in North America and Europe on February 5th. The Japanese edition featuring two exclusive tracks will be released via Spiritual Beast on February 16th.

About:
“A golden shower of thrash metal!” Six words to sum up Tymo! A band whose attitude lives up to the title of their debut album “Purge & Reset”. Lead guitarist and vocalist Tim Tymo explains that the origin of the title is more than words; it is a statement of lost faith in humanity. “Let’s just say we have a creator or superior being. If this god gave up everything we needed to flourish and returned to see all the wars and corruption, it would want to wipe the slate clean and start over. Hence…PURGE AND RESET!

Formed in Edmonton in 2015, Tymo is comprised of Tim Tymo as the lead guitarist and vocalist, Nick Schwartz on rhythm guitar, Harlen Jacobs on bass, and Marc Durie on drums.

Tim Tymo describes the band’s sounds as “loud, angry, and explosive thrash”. Tymo has a serious mission to entertain their fans. “We love writing and performing, and we all share a common passion for thrash metal. We wanted to reference our heroes and mix up that inspiration with our own brew and see what we came up with, and here we are. We want to give people a source of inspiration and excitement!

Tymo’s debut album “Purge & Reset” was released in August of 2017 and Tymo performed shows in support of the album throughout 2018. The band returned to the studio in early 2019 to record a single entitled “Sanity Clause.” It was released in late 2019 with very positive reviews and sold-out shows! Due to Covid 19, the band spent much of 2020 in the studio recording their follow-up album to Purge & Reset!

As of 2021, Tymo performed at the Loud As Hell Festival 2021 and has finished recording their next full-on thrash album! Much faster and more aggressive than Purge & Reset. The album entitled “The Art of A Maniac” is planned to be released in 2022 and Tymo has a mission to expand its audience and dominate the world! Planning to tour Europe and many other countries.

Western Canada’s Largest Extreme Music Event Armstrong MetalFest Announces Its Return July 15/16

Watch the official video recap of AMF 2019 here.
(video created by Mayne Brand Productions)

Western Canada’s largest extreme music event, Armstrong MetalFest announces it will be returning in 2022 to host two days of live Canadian metal on July 15th and 16th in Armstrong, BC.

The 2020 and 2021 productions of the festival were cancelled due to the magnitude of the COVID-19 pandemic in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. Following guidelines from British Columbia’s provincial government, Armstrong MetalFest is optimistic in presenting its 12th edition in 2022.

“We are pleased to announce that we are planning on having a festival this year! We are planning a similar event like years past, but depending on the Public Health Orders at the time of the festival may take a different physical form. We are working hard to solidify this year’s lineup, and we feel it will be just the light many of us need to look forward to! If everything works out we will be adding additional non-music events during the rest, as well as ramping up other events such as Thrash Wrestling! We are hoping to put presale tickets up for sale in March 2022.” add AMF festival organizers.

Ticket holders for AMF 2020 that were planning to use them for 2021 are asked to hold onto their tickets as they’ll be honoured for the choice of attending one of the next three years of the festival through 2022-2024. For more information, ticket holders can inquire by emailing – info[@]armstrongmetalfest[.]ca.

For more information about AMF‘s public health measures, restrictions and COVID-19 safety for its indoor live event and outdoor camping, the festival will be following the BC Centre For Disease Control’s guidelines, which can be found at the following link here.

Since 2009, West Metal Entertainment and Armstrong Metalfest has not only fostered the talent of hundreds of local bands but brought in well-known, international acts to the quiet, little Canadian town of Armstrong, British Columbia.

Each year up to 700 metalheads from Canada and the USA descend into the picturesque Okanagan Valley and under the blistering sun they spend three days camping, taking in over 30 bands, participating in wrestling events, and scavenger hunts and catching up with their metal family.

The festival has seen such renowned headliners as Kataklysm, Cattle Decapitation, Archspire, Nekrogoblikon, and Beyond Creation as well as emerging artists from across North America. At the end of the revelry, the festival disappears without a trace, leaving the landscape as pristine as it has always been.

West Metal Entertainment is a non-profit society that not only puts on Armstrong Metal Festival every year in Armstrong, B.C., but gives bands opportunities to play different venues throughout the region including all-ages shows, to encourage musical passion in kids as well as adults.
