Rockshots Records – ANNIKEN’s New Single “Keep the Light” Pays Homage To Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington

New Album “Climb Out of Hell” Due Out May 13, 2022

Norwegian solo metal artist Anniken will be releasing her debut album “Climb Out of Hell” on May 13, 2022 via Rockshots Records.

Today, she shares her tribute to one of her teenage influences, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park. She explains further.

“This song is an homage to Chester Bennington. I tried to give the sound some hints of Nu Metal. The riff is more rhythmical. The lyrics are about how Chester’s voice was a light in the darkness of difficult teenage years. I loved Linkin Park, especially their album Hybrid Theory. After Chester’s death, I couldn’t listen to their songs for a while. It was just too sad. Then one day I listened to their album One More Light on a flight back home from a holiday in the UK. The sound was quite different than that of Hybrid Theory, but I loved it. And the song One More Light is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking songs I have ever heard. I decided then to write some sort of response to that song, as a message to Chester. Just to say Thank you!”

“Keep the Light” can be seen and heard via its music video at https://youtu.be/k8W6yM08ND8

Spotify – https://spoti.fi/36ELVo6

Anniken has been a part of the Norwegian heavy metal scene for years with her band Darkest Sins, the studio project Ana – Metal for Charity, as well as being a part of her husband Marius Danielsen’s trilogy Legend of Valley Doom, both in the studio and with the live band. While in Darkest Sins she opened for bands such as Anthrax, Jorn, TNT, and UDO along with Legend of Valley Doom she has worked with legendary musicians such as Ralf Scheepers, Amanda Somerville, Roland Grapow, Matt Barlow, Doogie White, Jennifer Batten, and also actor John Rhys-Davies from the Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones movies.

Writing her own songs and having a profound love of lyrics, Anniken is now progressing into her solo endeavours. Anniken‘s debut album “Climb Out of Hell” features nine tracks, a few of them co-written with her husband Marius Danielsen.

It is a varied metal album that is melodic, raw, and catchy with different types of songs for every kind of metal fan. Some slow, some fast, most of them heavy. Some of the songs have a deeper meaning to them, while others are just exactly what you think they are.

Anniken adds:

“Firstly, I want people to enjoy the music. Secondly, I want them to notice the lyrics. I love listening to music while reading them and trying to understand the stories that are being told. I hope that the listeners feel the same way. I like to also add, that some of the songs were written a while back. I had others that didn’t make the cut. Overall, it is fun to write with other artists and see how the songs turned out both in the studio and live. But writing with others also means compromising. And that is one of the main reasons behind starting my solo project. I wanted to show what I could do, without the guys (yes, the bands I’ve played with always consisted of all guys and me). It is, unfortunately, easy to underestimate female artists in metal. At least, that is my experience. There aren’t as many women within the genre as there are men. Very often I experienced that people just assumed everything was written by the men in the group. I don’t mind being “just the singer”, but I would love to show the world that I am, in fact, more.”

“Climb Out of Hell” will be available on May 13, 2022.

New Album “Alchemy” Out Now!

Progressive, aggressive, experimental, and melodic, Calgary, Canada’s Caveat has been making music together for the better part of two decades and in that time they have now put out five records (4 Albums, 1 EP). Their latest is “Alchemy” released on February 11th.

Today, in support of their latest full length, the band is premiering their new lyric video for “Silver” via All AlboutTheRock HERE.

“One of the more melodic songs on the album with catchy hooks, verses, and an infectious chorus that touches on the silver lining of your actions and how they create the foundation for one’s existence.” adds guitarist Greg Musgrave.

Since its inception, Caveat has always refused to be constricted to metal genre rules and employs a vast array of influences and techniques in their music. Their new album “Alchemy” is no different as it keeps the listener on their toes as they experience this complex and detailed musical offering.

The band says that they have been getting steadily more progressive since 2004 when guitarist Joe Sikorski joined the fray. With him, he brought many possibilities in the realm of guitar harmonies and his virtuosic skills as a soloist. They continue to say that they definitely peaked as far as technical prowess on 2006’s Red, but the twin guitars, cross vocalization and wide variety of styles and songs have been a trademark of Caveat for almost 20 years. There is still innovation to be had though which they explain further:

“The creation of Alchemy has been one that has taken a few years to come to fruition, due to the stage and challenges of the modern world, but with that, we feel like the subject matter and music is more relevant than ever dealing with subjects such as addiction, the loss of a loved one, personal growth and even finding that light at the end of the tunnel. Being the band is now going on two decades of making music together, Alchemy is the first album putting newest member Amanda Marie Bourdon on lead vocal duties. She joined during the recording of our last album showing a glimpse of her vocal potential; this time around Amanda steps into the limelight as the main vocalist, which still sharing vocal duties with Greg Musgrave, but offering a new, fresh take on the Caveat sound taking the listener to uncharted territories that have turned out amazing.”

Once again, Caveat proves that they still have a trick up their sleeves and are fully prepared to give fans something new and enticing, yet familiar to enjoy. Heavily focused on personal experiences, the lyrics on “Alchemy” are both dark and light with switches in feeling and; mood ever-changing throughout the album.

Recommended for fans of Opeth, Cynic, and Devin Townsend, “Alchemy” is now available on Caveatcalgary.bandcamp.com, Spotify, Apple Music.

About:

Caveat was formed in mid-2001 by founding members Greg Musgrave on guitar and vocals, Jawad Baloch on drums & Terry Baldwin on bass & backing vocals. Shortly afterward Casey Rogers was asked to join as the new drummer of Caveat. This lineup would go on to record and release the debut album ‘The Biggest Secret’, which they released on May 14th of 2003.

After supporting the album, Caveat decided to expand and recruited Joe Sikorski in 2004 to the second guitar, who had been playing with Thorazine since the mid-’90s.

During 2005 Caveat partnered up with Scarab Productions to record and release a self-titled EP, which ended up landing on numerous campus radio charts and found the band playing larger shows than ever before. After parting ways with Scarab Production in late 2006, the sound of the band evolved yet again, writing more progressive and technical sounding songs, resulting in their 2007 magnum opus full-length album entitled ‘Red’.

To release ‘Red’ Caveat partnered up with Toronto-based indie record label Cyclone Records. To the band’s delight, ‘Red’ was very well received in the metal community and the band played more than ever in & around Western Canada.

Just prior to the release of ‘Red’ several members would branch off and form the deathgrind side project Exit Strategy with Shane Hawco (ex-Thorazine). Exit Strategy quickly became popular in the Western Canadian extreme metal scene. In 2008, after a successful several-year run, Caveat would elect to go into indefinite hiatus to focus on Exit Strategy.

Five years later saw the brief reformation of the band when Calgary Metalfest organizer ‘Big’ Nate Reno asked Caveat to reform to play the inaugural festival in the summer of 2013, and the band obliged. Original bassist Terry Baldwin elected to not be involved with the reunion show, so Caveat turned to former Verbal Deception and current Illuminated Minerva bass player Matt Petti to handle bass duties for the Metalfest performance. After that short hiatus, the band officially reformed at the end of 2014 with Matt Petti replacing Terry Baldwin permanently on bass duties.

Songwriting began for a new album while playing a handful of shows and several metal festivals across western Canada. Recording began in May 2015 and the new album entitled ‘Consummation’ was released on June 24th, 2016. ‘Consummation’ was also a moment of further evolution of Caveat, as local musician Amanda Marie Bourden was asked to join the band as keyboard player and second lead vocalist. Amanda accepted the invitation, and her powerful vocals were featured throughout ‘Consummation’ providing a great contrast to Greg’s clean & brutal vocal attack.

In 2017 and 2018, writing commenced for the album and would feature new vocalist Amanda as more of the primary voice in the new material. This culminated into the most diverse ambitious collection of songs to date. Then in late 2019, recording began for the new album with both Joe and Casey handling main production duties this time. Production was completed in late 2020, but due to the Covid pandemic-related shutdowns, the band decided to shelve its release for the duration of 2021 as a result.

Now Caveat’s delayed fifth album, entitled ‘Alchemy’, is for release in early 2022, and once again Caveat promises to deliver a majestic metallic assault on the senses. Stay tuned and expect the unexpected.

Album and Live Band Line Up:
Amanda Marie Bourdon: Vocals & Keyboards
Greg Musgrave: Guitar & Vocals
Joe Sikorski: Guitars
Matt Petti: Bass
Casey Rogers: Drums

“I’d recommend the album (Alchemy) for fans of Meshuggah, Unleash The Archers, Opeth, Devin Townsend and the like, along with people who like an experimental, progressive feel to their music.” – Metal-Rules

“Track three ‘Infinite’ to me is the best song on the album. Fast and heavy, it really lets rip and is a contrast to what you’ve heard so far on the album. The song is about fear and how it motivates much of our lives. ‘Black Mirror’, inspired by an episode of the TV show of the same name, starts with an almost country and western feel before becoming a full-on rock song with lots of changing tempos and vocals. ‘Ghost’ is melodic and powerful, full of twists and turns from ballad to prog rock. It showcases the talents of both vocalists well with lyrics about overcoming your personal demons.” – Metal-Rules

“There is some stellar musicianship here from all members and the seven songs are well written and engaging. The highlight of Alchemy is definitely the lead vocals of Amanda Marie Bourdon, who has a simply excellent voice… Alchemy is definitely worth adding to your collection. 4/5″ – Heavy Music Headquarters

Alchemy opens with “Silver,” a relentless sonic assault of massive riffage that showcases Amanda Marie Bourdon’s powerful vocals with guitarist Greg Musgrave’s vicious growls. His gruffness injects several songs here, as do Bourdon’s keyboards. At times, she sings like a pissed-off Pat Benatar, and the rest of this quintet—Joe Sikorski on guitars, Matt Petti on bass and Casey Rogers on drums — matches her fury… this is an engaging listen for metal fans who don’t mind straying beyond the genre’s increasingly blurry lines.” – Shepherd Express (Milwaukee Weekly)

“On their new album CAVEAT offer seven songs, diverse in their compositions. While the guitars come up with dark, hard-hitting riffs as well as beautiful melodic parts, the mostly powerful, complex rhythmic brings in a great dynamic. By alternating between the different expressions of two strong singers, they lay all kinds of emotions into their music… All-together, “Alchemy” is an amazing listen, recommended for fans of genre-bending music. ” – Mostly Metal

“this album’s claim to take an experimental route is justified. With elements of many Metal subgenres flowing in their songwriting veins, it’s hard to stick Caveat into one category… Nevertheless, Caveat brings strength, and wonder to the Metal scene and has given us only a glimpse of what is to come.” – Metal Godesses

“A production that should be most satisfying for many fans of progressive metal, and perhaps a bit more for those who approach this style of metal from the metal rather than the progressive rock direction at that.” – Progressor

What the press is saying:
“Western Canada’s loudest heavy metal festival brings fans to town more known for dinos than drum solos.” – CBC Calgary

“Loud as Hell – one of Canada’s top underground metal festivals – was a metal family reunion. If you walked around the grounds, where tents covered the landscape like flowers, you would experience concert goers laughing, hugging and just enjoying the moment. The music played non-stop and the people were some of the best you’ll meet. What else do you need? If you’re a metalhead fan, mark it down for next year because this is a concert you don’t want to miss.” – Blackfalds Life

“Headbanger alert: Loud As Hell festival to ramp up the volume” – Calgary Herald

“Nevermind the bug spray and sun tan lotion, as August approaches Drumheller residents should stock up on earplugs.” – Calgary Herald

“Loud As Hell returns to the southern Alberta city for its seventh year and as its name implies, will rock the city to its core.” – Calgary Herald

“Loud as Hell has celebrated eight years in the Badlands to date, with acts from all over the world-shattering the peace and quiet of the hills in a camping and music extravaganza.” – Hanna Herald

“Drumheller with its dinosaur bones is the site of the annual Loud as Hell heavy metal festival Friday through Sunday. Dozens of the heaviest bands known to Man will be taking the stage, many of them Canadian” – Gig City

Rockshots Records – An Epic Metallic Space Synth Soundtrack LIONSOUL’s New Video “Amber of Illusion”

New Album “A Pledge To Darkness” Out April 29, 2022

LionSoul is unveiling their new music video for the second single “Amber of Illusion” off their forthcoming third album “A Pledge To Darkness” due out on April 29th via Rockshots Records.

“If you listen to only the synth structure, Amber of Illusion could be imagined as an 80s epic space synth-wave soundtrack.” adds the band.

Watch – https://youtu.be/HyiHCtyvv20

Digital – https://bfan.link/amber-of-illusion

LionSoul‘s “A Pledge To Darkness” follows the band’s previous releases “Welcome Storm” (2017) (Limb Music), “Omega” (2013), and EP “The Throne” (2015). Since the band’s formation in 2012, they have shared the stage and toured with artists such as Domine, Iron Savior, GammaRay, Kissin’ Dynamite, Geoff Tate, Tygers Of Pan Tang in Italy and across Europe along with festival appearances on Metal For Emergency (IT), Biker Fest (IT), and Loud and Proud Festival (IT).

The new album “A Pledge To Darkness” is a huge step forward in LionSoul‘s career as it is more heterogeneous, in some ways darker than the previous ones. Featuring 11 roaring cosmic tracks, it brings with it nuances ranging from thrash to melodic death metal, including some death metal vocals in order to give more emphasis to certain passages. The album is a composition of different stylistic approaches that converge into the power/heavy roots that still remain at the basis of their sound. The songs range from a classic power metal opener with spatial atmospheres up to a futuristic western ballad, from speed metal tracks – that wink at thrash and melodic death metal – to 80’s synth-wave tunes, from mid-tempo hymns in Teutonic/industrial style to the almost omnipresent Cyberpunk themes. “A Pledge to Darkness” remains in all respects a power metal album, but with some dosed contaminations. Overall, its goal is to take you on a hyperspace voyage from Tatooine to 2049 Los Angeles, while passing through Tranctor. The band explains further:

“Imagine your planet at the end of its life and you have the burden to preserve the knowledge so you take a spaceship for a trip to L A in 2049 meanwhile you pass through a portal between 1953 to 1986 and also you change your skin to save the human race from a virus.”

Recommended for fans of speedy heavy metal, power metal, hard rock, and 80’s soundtracks, “A Pledge to Darkness” is due out on April 29, 2022.

Canadian shredders STRIKER will be hitting the road in April and May 2022 to support Finnish heavy metallers Beast In Black for their first North American headlining tour along with Florida power metal warriors Seven Kingdoms.

Before kicking off the first date of the tour in Orlando, FL on April 7th, STRIKER are unveiling their latest single “Strange Love” with a new music video that features the debut of the band’s latest lineup addition of long time friend and guitarist John Simon Fallon (The Order of Chaos).

“Strange Love” is the band’s first new music of 2022 since releasing their previous single 2021’s “Deathwish”. The band is currently in songwriting mode for their follow-up record to their Juno award-winning album 2018’s “Play To Win”.

“When we wrote Strange Love we were dabbling in the dark arts of funk, and although it really doesn’t sound like it we drew big inspiration from bands like Extreme and Faith No More. It was a bit of a detour on our metal journey, but it was a lot of fun to record. We have one more song to release from that recording session too, which leans even further into that style so keep an eye out for that!” adds vocalist Dan Cleary.

Blending classic heavy metal, hard rock, and 80’s hair metal, Striker has been making shredtacular anthems since 2007. Started as a wedding band, Romania’s Dirty Shirt knows how to get the party started and keep it going. Playing a signature mix of nu-metal, metalcore, alternative rock, and hardcore, the gang of musicians takes a wide array of influences and creates something distinctly their own. The second single off their upcoming album “Get Your Dose Now!” is the chipper and upbeat “DOPE-A-MIN”. The band explains it in their own words:

“It is probably one of the most energetic songs from the album. It starts quite “standard” with a nu-metal/hardcore intro, then the verses and choruses combine metal with traditional style melodies, giving almost a “pirate metal” ambiance. The intermezzo completely changes the ambiance, with some complex rhythm break, then a melodic part, with vocals and violin theme composed in gypsy Romanian style. The song ends in symmetry, with the same part as the intro. Lyrically, the song is about all the illusions created by social media. We must be happy at all cost, and have become dependent from these shots of dopamine that we pop like vitamins tablets every morning.”

Early on in their existence, Dirty Shirt played progressive alternative metal and now base their sound off nu-metal with prominent influences from hardcore, industrial, funk, and electro. They add on to it further by adding eclectic inspiration, especially from East European traditional music. Album after album they develop and tweak their sound which is played by eight core members and a large parade of guests present on recordings and at larger live events.

Dirty Shirt is accessible for a wide range of listeners across the musical spectrum and is suggested listening for fans of Diablo Swing Orchestra, Twelve Foot Ninja, and Dubioza Kolektiv.

“DOPE-A-MIN” can be heard via its music video – https://youtu.be/2933ZXOPHH0

Finnish rockers Serpico are sharing their next single “I Am A Rocker” off their upcoming album “The Chosen Four” due out July 2022 via Rockshots Records. The song was written by Serpico guitarist Snake to tell a tale about the band’s drummer Jani.

“I am so proud to have my own song written by someone else. It sounds just the way I am personally, how I feel and how I act. Snake really knows how to write a great song without forgetting the humorous side in the lyrics. Yes Sir, I´m a Rocker!” comments Jani.

Hilltops Are For Dreamers debut album “In Disbelief” is now available as of March 25th via Rockshots Records. The album itself is a world of extremes and vastly different from the band’s musical past. It blends influences from post-hardcore with acoustic blues melodies, progressive structuring, heavy riffing, a dash of black metal along with exploring electronic and cinematic paths. The record is meant to be a journey from a gloomy emotional state to a possible healing point through the process of realization. It is divided into three parts, Shadows, which is the dark unfolding of the path, Overturn, where the growing consciousness leads to the hope of a better self, and Awakening, which depicts a moment of revival and prospective remedy. For the album’s mixing and mastering, they teamed up once again with Steve Lado at SL Studios.

“We are really excited about this album. It’s a step forward from all perspectives. The sound and the music are so unique and personal, whilst at the same time, anyone could find these elements they really like and attach to them respectively. ‘In Disbelief’ explores different musical genres and spans from mellow to extreme, while staying faithful to melody and heaviness. The band moves away from its metalcore past, but keeps some of these roots blended with various influences from the wider metal scene, allowing them to experiment with new and unpaved paths at the same time. The band is very proud to be part of Rockshots Records, making this album the first official label release. The future seems to be bright and there is nothing to stop it!” comments band founder Vasilis Papageorgakopoulos (Guitars / Bass / Keys / Programming).

Today, for the album’s release day, the band is sharing a visualizer for their single “Severe Serenity”.

“The song has a doomy riff at the beginning that reminds me of Black Sabbath quite a lot. Then, it breaks to a hardcore guitar-driven verse while the chorus builds into a more lounge/vintage kind of style/vibe. Some Mastodon influences and an 80s-inspired solo for the end. I believe it’s one of the most interesting tracks of the album. Lyrically, it describes the relationship between the main character and ‘the dark side’.” adds Papageorgakopoulos.

About:

Hilltops Are For Dreamers (HAFD) is an ambitious project that took shape and form in London around 2018 by Vasilis Papageorgakopoulos. However, they pride themselves in being a multinational band, specifically, UK and Greece-based. The band was born through the ashes of the five-piece Greek metalcore act ‘From Zero To Hero, (FO2H)’ that was disbanded in 2012 immediately after the release of their debut album and Dionysus Maratos (ex-FO2H, Celene) was the only one who joined HAFD in their first steps.

Since 2018, the band has managed to self-release their first ‘self-titled’ EP (January 2020) in digital format, receiving a number of positive reviews, including Metal Hammer, Greece (07/10). Mainly focused on a post-hardcore direction, the EP has successfully blended early ‘00s metalcore elements with blues licks and catchy melodies. One lyric and a unique music video have also been produced to support the achievement.

Additionally, during the first Covid-19 lockdown, they wrote and then released the split digital EP ‘A Transition’ (July 2020) with the fellow band ‘Repent For Joy’, pushing their music a step further. That release was accompanied by a music video for the song ‘The Tide’, featuring Michael Enger, who also does vocals on the debut album, ‘In Disbelief’.

What first began as a studio project by Vasilis Papageorgakopoulos from the unfulfilled musical restlessness of the past has become a strong collaboration of fellow international musicians to create and record.

In the end, everyone’s goal remains the same; to create influential music following the vision of a no-boundaries-physical or not-world where people connect with sounds and emotions.

Fun Facts:

The artwork photographs were taken over the years by Vasilis in the UK, he never thought that they could be used to synthesize the album inner booklet, but now they are. They challenge fans to find out where some of the pics are from, especially the one in the ‘Awakening’ part of the booklet.

Some of the lyrics were written/conceptualized by Vasilis while he traveled to work by train before the Covid era. Also, some of them are the outcome of just singing while strolling/walking around the streets of London.

Canada’s FALAMH Are Now Streaming Blackened Death Metal EP “Aeons Effigy”

EP Stream Premiere via Bravewords

“Aeons Effigy” Out March 25th

L-R – Dave Strba (Guitar, Backing Vocals) – Kyle Tayler (Guitars, Vocals) – Kye Bell (Bass)

Falamh released their debut album “The Unbound Beyond: I” in 2020 and are now following it up with “Aeons Effigy”. A meticulous blend of black and death metal, it will appeal to a wide variety of listeners who enjoy melody, creative riffs and blast beats. Compared to the last release, “Aeons Effigy” keeps the tone of the first, although it is diverse in other ways, it is darker and more robust; however, the atmosphere remains the same. The band explains it in their own words:

“The concept for this EP is about the journey and discovery of oneself and the transformation effects that occur. Whether being steadfast or yielding, change is always inevitable and it’s how someone reacts that can determine the perspective and outcome. The lyrics reflect this by telling tales of different characters and how their reaction affects them.”

The tracks on this EP are taken from several sessions over the last few years. As for what to expect in the future, there is currently some new material in the very early stages of the writing process. The release of it will depend on how far Falamh is able to dig in and be happy with the results.

“Aeons Effigy” is just over 20 minutes in length, and was produced, mixed and mastered by the band at Chainsaw Media. The album artwork was done by guitarist/vocalist Kyle Tayler. There are many black and death metal influences present in the music, and the album is recommended for fans of Taake, Kampfar, and Agalloch.

“Aeons Effigy” is being released on March 25, 2022, but can be heard in full before it officially drops via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

About:

Falamh, from North Bay, ON, Canada rose from the ashes of a previous band in 2019. Guitarist/vocalist Kyle Tayler had originally written material for that band, but after the dissolution, sought other creative outlets for them. Enlisting members from the previous band, Falamh was born and they got to work refining their melodic black/death metal.

Ultimately working collaboratively, Tayler guides the initial creation of song structures, riffs, drums patterns, and lyrics which are distilled by David Strba (guitars, backing vocals) and Kye Bell (bass). The three of them have considerable experience playing live and for them, the current focus is to present something more memorable with a stage presence that adds to the overall atmosphere of the music.

Falamh released their first EP “The Unbound Beyond: I” in 2020 and will follow it up with “Aeons Effigy” due out on March 25, 2022.
