Canadian shredders STRIKER will be hitting the road in April and May 2022 to support Finnish heavy metallers Beast In Black for their first North American headlining tour along with Florida power metal warriors Seven Kingdoms.

Before kicking off the first date of the tour in Orlando, FL on April 7th, STRIKER are unveiling their latest single “Strange Love” with a new music video that features the debut of the band’s latest lineup addition of long time friend and guitarist John Simon Fallon (The Order of Chaos).

“Strange Love” is the band’s first new music of 2022 since releasing their previous single 2021’s “Deathwish”. The band is currently in songwriting mode for their follow-up record to their Juno award-winning album 2018’s “Play To Win”.

“When we wrote Strange Love we were dabbling in the dark arts of funk, and although it really doesn’t sound like it we drew big inspiration from bands like Extreme and Faith No More. It was a bit of a detour on our metal journey, but it was a lot of fun to record. We have one more song to release from that recording session too, which leans even further into that style so keep an eye out for that!” adds vocalist Dan Cleary.

The band has been honoured with multiple Best Album awards in their home country of Canada from the JUNO Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards, and the Edmonton Music Awards. Since their inception, Striker has released six studio albums Eyes in the Night (2010, Iron Kodex), Armed to The Teeth (2012, Napalm), City of Gold (2014, Napalm), Stand in the Fire (2016, Record Breaking), Striker (2017, Record Breaking), and Play to Win (2018, Record Breaking).

Started as a wedding band, Romania’s Dirty Shirt knows how to get the party started and keep it going. Playing a signature mix of nu-metal, metalcore, alternative rock, and hardcore, the gang of musicians takes a wide array of influences and creates something distinctly their own. The second single off their upcoming album “Get Your Dose Now!” is the chipper and upbeat “DOPE-A-MIN”. The band explains it in their own words:

“It is probably one of the most energetic songs from the album. It starts quite “standard” with a nu-metal/hardcore intro, then the verses and choruses combine metal with traditional style melodies, giving almost a “pirate metal” ambiance. The intermezzo completely changes the ambiance, with some complex rhythm break, then a melodic part, with vocals and violin theme composed in gypsy Romanian style. The song ends in symmetry, with the same part as the intro. Lyrically, the song is about all the illusions created by social media. We must be happy at all cost, and have become dependent from these shots of dopamine that we pop like vitamins tablets every morning.”

Early on in their existence, Dirty Shirt played progressive alternative metal and now base their sound off nu-metal with prominent influences from hardcore, industrial, funk, and electro. They add on to it further by adding eclectic inspiration, especially from East European traditional music. Album after album they develop and tweak their sound which is played by eight core members and a large parade of guests present on recordings and at larger live events.

Dirty Shirt is accessible for a wide range of listeners across the musical spectrum and is suggested listening for fans of Diablo Swing Orchestra, Twelve Foot Ninja, and Dubioza Kolektiv.

“DOPE-A-MIN” can be heard via its music video – https://youtu.be/2933ZXOPHH0

Finnish rockers Serpico are sharing their next single “I Am A Rocker” off their upcoming album “The Chosen Four” due out July 2022 via Rockshots Records. The song was written by Serpico guitarist Snake to tell a tale about the band’s drummer Jani.

“I am so proud to have my own song written by someone else. It sounds just the way I am personally, how I feel and how I act. Snake really knows how to write a great song without forgetting the humorous side in the lyrics. Yes Sir, I´m a Rocker!” comments Jani.

Hilltops Are For Dreamers debut album “In Disbelief” is now available as of March 25th via Rockshots Records. The album itself is a world of extremes and vastly different from the band’s musical past. It blends influences from post-hardcore with acoustic blues melodies, progressive structuring, heavy riffing, a dash of black metal along with exploring electronic and cinematic paths. The record is meant to be a journey from a gloomy emotional state to a possible healing point through the process of realization. It is divided into three parts, Shadows, which is the dark unfolding of the path, Overturn, where the growing consciousness leads to the hope of a better self, and Awakening, which depicts a moment of revival and prospective remedy. For the album’s mixing and mastering, they teamed up once again with Steve Lado at SL Studios.

“We are really excited about this album. It’s a step forward from all perspectives. The sound and the music are so unique and personal, whilst at the same time, anyone could find these elements they really like and attach to them respectively. ‘In Disbelief’ explores different musical genres and spans from mellow to extreme, while staying faithful to melody and heaviness. The band moves away from its metalcore past, but keeps some of these roots blended with various influences from the wider metal scene, allowing them to experiment with new and unpaved paths at the same time. The band is very proud to be part of Rockshots Records, making this album the first official label release. The future seems to be bright and there is nothing to stop it!” comments band founder Vasilis Papageorgakopoulos (Guitars / Bass / Keys / Programming).

Today, for the album’s release day, the band is sharing a visualizer for their single “Severe Serenity”.

“The song has a doomy riff at the beginning that reminds me of Black Sabbath quite a lot. Then, it breaks to a hardcore guitar-driven verse while the chorus builds into a more lounge/vintage kind of style/vibe. Some Mastodon influences and an 80s-inspired solo for the end. I believe it’s one of the most interesting tracks of the album. Lyrically, it describes the relationship between the main character and ‘the dark side’.” adds Papageorgakopoulos.

Hilltops Are For Dreamers are recommended for fans of Opeth, Thrice, and Soilwork.

About:

Hilltops Are For Dreamers (HAFD) is an ambitious project that took shape and form in London around 2018 by Vasilis Papageorgakopoulos. However, they pride themselves in being a multinational band, specifically, UK and Greece-based. The band was born through the ashes of the five-piece Greek metalcore act ‘From Zero To Hero, (FO2H)’ that was disbanded in 2012 immediately after the release of their debut album and Dionysus Maratos (ex-FO2H, Celene) was the only one who joined HAFD in their first steps.

Since 2018, the band has managed to self-release their first ‘self-titled’ EP (January 2020) in digital format, receiving a number of positive reviews, including Metal Hammer, Greece (07/10). Mainly focused on a post-hardcore direction, the EP has successfully blended early ‘00s metalcore elements with blues licks and catchy melodies. One lyric and a unique music video have also been produced to support the achievement.

Additionally, during the first Covid-19 lockdown, they wrote and then released the split digital EP ‘A Transition’ (July 2020) with the fellow band ‘Repent For Joy’, pushing their music a step further. That release was accompanied by a music video for the song ‘The Tide’, featuring Michael Enger, who also does vocals on the debut album, ‘In Disbelief’.

What first began as a studio project by Vasilis Papageorgakopoulos from the unfulfilled musical restlessness of the past has become a strong collaboration of fellow international musicians to create and record.

In the end, everyone’s goal remains the same; to create influential music following the vision of a no-boundaries-physical or not-world where people connect with sounds and emotions.

Fun Facts:

The artwork photographs were taken over the years by Vasilis in the UK, he never thought that they could be used to synthesize the album inner booklet, but now they are. They challenge fans to find out where some of the pics are from, especially the one in the ‘Awakening’ part of the booklet.

Some of the lyrics were written/conceptualized by Vasilis while he traveled to work by train before the Covid era. Also, some of them are the outcome of just singing while strolling/walking around the streets of London.

Canada’s FALAMH Are Now Streaming Blackened Death Metal EP “Aeons Effigy”

EP Stream Premiere via Bravewords

“Aeons Effigy” Out March 25th

L-R – Dave Strba (Guitar, Backing Vocals) – Kyle Tayler (Guitars, Vocals) – Kye Bell (Bass)

Falamh released their debut album “The Unbound Beyond: I” in 2020 and are now following it up with “Aeons Effigy”. A meticulous blend of black and death metal, it will appeal to a wide variety of listeners who enjoy melody, creative riffs and blast beats. Compared to the last release, “Aeons Effigy” keeps the tone of the first, although it is diverse in other ways, it is darker and more robust; however, the atmosphere remains the same. The band explains it in their own words:

“The concept for this EP is about the journey and discovery of oneself and the transformation effects that occur. Whether being steadfast or yielding, change is always inevitable and it’s how someone reacts that can determine the perspective and outcome. The lyrics reflect this by telling tales of different characters and how their reaction affects them.”

The tracks on this EP are taken from several sessions over the last few years. As for what to expect in the future, there is currently some new material in the very early stages of the writing process. The release of it will depend on how far Falamh is able to dig in and be happy with the results.

“Aeons Effigy” is just over 20 minutes in length, and was produced, mixed and mastered by the band at Chainsaw Media. The album artwork was done by guitarist/vocalist Kyle Tayler. There are many black and death metal influences present in the music, and the album is recommended for fans of Taake, Kampfar, and Agalloch.

“Aeons Effigy” is being released on March 25, 2022, but can be heard in full before it officially drops via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

About:

Falamh, from North Bay, ON, Canada rose from the ashes of a previous band in 2019. Guitarist/vocalist Kyle Tayler had originally written material for that band, but after the dissolution, sought other creative outlets for them. Enlisting members from the previous band, Falamh was born and they got to work refining their melodic black/death metal.

Ultimately working collaboratively, Tayler guides the initial creation of song structures, riffs, drums patterns, and lyrics which are distilled by David Strba (guitars, backing vocals) and Kye Bell (bass). The three of them have considerable experience playing live and for them, the current focus is to present something more memorable with a stage presence that adds to the overall atmosphere of the music.

Falamh released their first EP “The Unbound Beyond: I” in 2020 and will follow it up with “Aeons Effigy” due out on March 25, 2022.

Canada’s My Hollow has a new EP coming out, “Fighting The Monsters”, which will be their third since their inception in 2012. The new record boasts the heaviest music they have written and the addition of keyboards adds a new layer to their sound, infusing it with epic melodies. The latest single “Hell Or High Water” is progressive and wild, and bassist Sean De Faria details the particulars of the track:

“When I wrote the guitar parts for this song they ended up coming together really quickly. I remember feeling some stress and some loneliness at the time and I think that it comes through in the music. It’s also a lot different structurally than most of our songs, which is something that I always try to bring to the table. It also features a longer instrumental section nearing the end which also has gotten positive feedback from the crowd during live performances. The vocals that Graham added feed into the feel of the music as well, that feeling of unrest and longing for closure are evident in the lyrics.”

The band expects newer fans, as well as established ones, will be able to find tangible qualities to enjoy about the new album. The new tunes don’t stray too far from their back catalogue, but they do possess more of a mature approach to the songwriting. The addition of keyboardist Matt Williams has also added a new dimension to the My Hollow sound.

Citing that they are influenced the most by metal genres that are constantly evolving and being created everyday, they constantly look to discover new music and techniques. They are recommended listening for fans of Chimaira, Lamb of God, and Fit For An Autopsy.

About:
hollow: (1) a place or area that is lower than the area around it.
(2) an empty space inside of something.

The definitions of the word hollow describe My Hollow fittingly. With intense riffs and passages seamlessly giving way to lower, heavier parts in a lock-up, chunked out style with mutes leaving empty space in an otherwise chaotic sequence.

Based out of the Toronto area, My Hollow boasts a cast of independent metal journeymen, hungry to be heavier, tighter and more engaging with every song. Applying advice and drawing experience from performing alongside some of Canada’s biggest metal exports; The Agonist, Cryptopsy, Threat Signal, Beneath The Massacre among others. My Hollow as a whole can draw from a multitude of influences, not only from metal but from other genres as well, reflected in both their recorded releases as well as their live performance. Described by Danish webzine Power Of Metal as “five pissed off Canadians ready to tear my head off!” As well as “all the subtlety of a two-ton anvil slamming down on a set of pearly whites” by US based heavy metal blog, Heavy Metal Time Machine.

My Hollow has two official releases, 2012’s ‘Cold Dark Days EP’ featuring four demo versions of songs which were reworked and reimagined on 2014’s ‘On Borrowed Time’ full length release featuring My Hollow’s most refined and focused work to date.

Like any band, My Hollow has had its highs and lows. Being selected as a finalist for the annual Wacken Metal Battle Canada 2013 solidified My Hollow as one of Toronto’s, as well as Canada’s top metal acts and announced themselves to a broader spectrum of listeners. Although narrowly missing out on a spot to perform in Germany at heavy metal’s premier festival the experience proved to strengthen the bands resolve and galvanize their confidence in the process.

While the band’s recorded releases give the listener an idea of what My Hollow is about, the live performance is where My Hollow truly shine. “With a crushing wave of energy, and sound, My Hollow filled the venue with their effervescent presence. The lads never disappoint on stage,” is how Toronto based metal publication Metal Master Kingdom described their experience.

With a new EP “Fighting The Monsters”, which includes guest vocals from Bjorn Strid (Soilwork) due out in 2022 and an ever-evolving sound and live performance, My Hollow strive to become an ever-present staple in the Canadian and global metal scene and will stop at nothing to leave you hollow, and wanting more.

2020 – iSolation (Single)
2018 – And Now We Fall (Single)

0 M-Theory Audio – California Symphonic Metal Quintet GRAVESHADOW Unveil Video for ‘Soldier of 34’; New album ‘The Uncertain Hour’ to be released Summer 2022

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – March 23, 2022

California Symphonic Metal Quintet GRAVESHADOW Unveil Video for ‘Soldier of 34’

New album ‘The Uncertain Hour’ to be released Summer 2022

The Sacramento-based quintet GRAVESHADOW – who deftly mixes symphonic/gothic metal with elements of doom, thrash and epic progressive power metal – have unveiled the music video for “Soldier of 34,” the new single from their forthcoming album, “The Uncertain Hour.” The band’s third album will be released July 15, 2022. In the meantime, the video for “Soldier of 34” can be viewed at https://youtu.be/qXDzhkfRjuM, and the song itself is now available for streaming/purchase on all digital music platforms.

“’Solider of 34’ was the first song completed for the record, and the first that Aaron [Robitsch – guitars] and I truly collaborated on,” explains guitarist William Lloyd Walker. “We wanted to create something that we felt was reflective of the band’s journey up until this point. The mournful melodies cast on top of these raw, aggressive rhythms we felt was the perfect backdrop for a story centered around losing those closest to you. We couldn’t be prouder of the way it turned out, and we feel it really represents all facets of what we want to accomplish this record. This is just the beginning; we can’t wait for the record to come out and share all that we’ve been working on with fans new and old alike.”

“Soldier of 34” is the follow-up to the band’s 2020 single “Gwynnbleidd,” inspired by the Witcher series, that showcased the return of the band with several new members, including vocalist Rachl Raxx Quinn and bassist Luci Rae, and can be heard here https://youtu.be/XrorDG70g3Q. Joining the band officially is drummer Bones Padilla, formerly of Bay Area labelmates Cultural Warfare. “The Uncertain Hour” was produced by Miss May I guitarist Justin Aufdemkampe (Clutch, War of Ages), mastered by Roman Ismaylov (Crobot, Zoe’s Extraordinary Playlist) and features artwork by Roman Ismaylov (Battle Beast, Beast In Black). Pre-orders for CD and limited-edition (200) vinyl copies are available at www.smarturl.com/graveshadow

“The Uncertain Hour” sees the new lineup for GRAVESHADOW continue to refine the enticing mix of symphonic, gothic, doom, and epic progressive-metal elements, now augmented by the newfound energy that has been brought into the band by the soaring melodic vocals of Quinn and the rumbling rhythm section of Rae and Bones. The duo of Walker and Robitsch once again deliver a beautiful display of guitar histrionics that tastefully mix searing shred with warm melody. GRAVESHADOW are back on the scene with a story to tell. Intertwining melodic highs and crushing lows to sweep listeners away on a journey of self-discovery, loss and the will to carry on.

GRAVESHADOW‘s previous album, 2018’s “Ambition’s Price,” was given accolades by Metal Utopia for being “a great record with lots of great moments for fans of Nightwish and The Birthday Massacre.” Metal Nation praised “Ambition’s Price,” declaring that “GRAVESHADOW has taken what has become a somewhat complacent and stagnant style of metal and breathed fresh life into it, creating something vibrant and memorable.” The fantastical lyrical themes that were explored by the band on “Ambition’s Price” – their debut record for M-Theory Audio and the follow-up to the group’s incubatory 2015 debut full-length “Nocturnal Resurrection” – were applauded by critics and fans alike. The band followed the release of “Ambition’s Price” by winning over new audiences with extensive touring alongside bands such as Arkona, Sirenia, Exmortus, Night Demon, and Unleash The Archers.

More information on GRAVESHADOW and the upcoming release of their new album, “The Uncertain Hour,” will be revealed in the months to come by M-Theory Audio and at https://www.facebook.com/Graveshadow.

GRAVESHADOW is:
Rachl “Raxx” Quinn – Vocals
William Lloyd Walker – Guitars
Aaron Robitsch – Guitars/Keyboards
Luci Rae – Bass
Bones – Drummer

Rockshots Records – FORTIS VENTUS Unveil Epic Symphonic Single “My Death is My Devotion”

Debut Album “Vertalia” Out June 2022

Rockshots Records will be releasing Fortis Ventus’ debut album “Vertalia” on June 3, 2022. Combining symphonic and cinematic elements along with soundtrack influences, today the Greek trio unveils their first single off the forthcoming record. Entitled “My Death is My Devotion”, the song captures the pain and faith behind the sacrifices for the ones we care about from the emotions driven by love and loyalty.

“An epic orchestral intro brings us to stormy seas only for the rhythmic triplets to ground us as the catchy melody gets stuck in your head. The vocals sing long notes while the band and orchestra keep a groovy rhythm going. Then it quiets down to a somber voice that is filled with emotion only for it to return even stronger than before.” adds the band.

Listen to “My Death is My Devotion” at the following links:

Lyric Video – https://youtu.be/esxUrI3OgVU
Spotify – https://spoti.fi/3tpUoUH

Sentimental, dramatic, grand, cinematic, and imaginative, “Vertalia” is a concept album based on a novel-fairytale written by keyboardist George Halliwell.

“Twelve chapters for a total of twelve tracks”. says, Halliwell.

The theme of this fairytale focuses on an imaginary planet called Vertalia, where the main character starts their journey to discover their inner truth and the truth of life itself. Through the challenges they face during their journey back to Earth, they connect with their higher self and take a path to eventually achieve inner peace back towards their homeland of Vertalia.

“The audience will be surprised at the intricate orchestrations that hide behind complex melodies on this album. Each person hearing it, will find a glimmer to empathize in every track. We wanted to tell a story and give the listener a variety of feelings and a journey alongside the lyrics.” adds the band.

Fortis Ventus is recommended for fans of Hans Zimmer, Two Steps From Hell, Epica, Nightwish, and Kamelot.

About:

Fortis Ventus formed in 2015 and self-released their first ep “Haunted Heart” in November 2017. In early 2018, due to creative differences, the band underwent significant changes. The driving forces that remained were composer, arranger, keyboardist George Halliwell and vocalist, lyricist Nancy Mos. Breathing new life into their work, the duo met Gregory Koilakos who would take on the role of guitarist. Together, the three musicians started recording their first full-length “Vertalia” with Gregory taking on both guitar and bass duties for the album, which also changed the band’s metal sound with its film score music elements.

Day of Departure, from Washington D.C., have been working on their self-titled debut album for the last two years and their proggy, sci-fi-inspired narrative debut is now premiering on TheProgSpace. The ten tracks fuse ambient, spacey post-rock with a story of the destruction of our planet, and then the need to evolve and find a new path forward for survival.

The band first developed the overall concept of the story and thought about the progression of that narrative. Next came focusing on the ebb and flow of the record and where they wanted to take the listener in terms of dynamics, pace, and feel, and used that as the basis for writing the other tracks. Each of the songs has a purpose throughout the full-length, but can stand alone as well. The band explains the creation of the listening experience:

“Even though the foundations of most of the songs were initially developed by Matt Kozar, there was plenty of room for collaboration to get to the final versions of the songs on the album. Whether it was considering different phrasing for vocals, development of different rhythms/beats from initial demos, or the inclusion of more layers of guitars and keys to contribute to the canvas of sound. We think fans of our other projects, Brave and Stellar Death, will recognize and appreciate the ways in which we have been able to integrate the vast array of sounds and styles throughout this album, but also recognize elements from those other creative outlets.”

The story within is imaginative and complex and the music has a soundtrack-like feel, immersing the listener into a creative, stimulating world. The album is a progression and the listener is encouraged to listen to it through this progression to get the maximum effect of the overall concept.

The album was produced by Day of Departure, mixed by Trevor Schrotz at the Red Room Studios, and mastered by Greg Schwan at the Oak Lodge.

Day of Departure is recommended for fans of God is an Astronaut, If These Trees Could Talk, and Lacuna Coil.

The album is now streaming in full at TheProgSpace with its official release on March 25, 2022 via Bravemusic.

About:

Day of Departure combines elements of post-rock, ambient, progressive rock, and hard rock to arrive at a unique sonic landscape that seeks to balance the varied influences and inspirations from its creators.

Born out of a desire to explore a different musical style that merges their influences with a well-woven narrative, Washington D.C.’s Day of Departure created a story that begins with the destruction of our planet, and then the need to evolve and find a new path forward for survival. They are heavily influenced by a number of different sci-fi stories and comics that echo throughout their music.

Their debut self-titled album is set to be released on March 25, 2022. It was produced and recorded entirely remotely over two years with none of the members working together in person. They currently do not have any plans to play live at the moment, but are looking forward to thinking about how to bring to life the music and vibe that was created on the record.

While writing their debut, several songs didn’t make the cut, yet Day of Departure are already thinking about the next chapter to explore, with some of those songs/ideas being the inspiration or perhaps even the focus of forthcoming music.
