Montreal, QC – September 26, 2022

Boston’s PISTACIA Announces US East Coast Dates + New Music Video “It Was The Cat”

New EP “Edgy” Out October 2022

Boston’s Pistacia will be hitting the road in October for tour dates across the American East Coast (dates listed below). The show dates will be in support of the band’s forthcoming debut EP “Edgy” due out on October 21st. The first single “It Was The Cat” can be heard via its music video at https://youtu.be/alpM9aI0BjQ

Tour Dates:
Oct 15 – Portland, ME – Apohadion Theater
Oct 22 – Starlite – Southbridge, MA
Oct 25 –  Diversity Consignment – Jamaica Plain, MA.
Oct 26 – Millhill Basement – Trenton, MA
Nov 12 – Providence, RI – The Alchemy

Bringing forth a new brand of metalcore with their debut EP “Edgy”, Pistacia confronts relatable issues set to emotional and powerful music through personal and poignant lyrics. Making music for people who are scared and voiceless is their passion and they are not afraid to get specific about what happens in the mind of the mentally ill. With their “It Was The Cat”, they offer hope and understanding and a flashback to the days when people used the explanation that “the cat did it” in reference to marks on their arms. The band explains the creation of the single:

“The single began almost accidentally; Ben and Théo were in Florida on tour with their former band, exhausted from the road and performance, and aching to write some new music that would reflect the artistic changes they’d undergone as a result. Ben cracked away at that which he does best: writing filthy hardcore riffs and Théo took initiative to make as poppy a chorus arrangement as possible. Years later, the track was revived and Vic worked her magic, pouring her anguish and rage into finely tuned stanzas that packed punch. They entered a Berklee rehearsal room with sketches, with the makings of a metal banger, and left with the instantiation of their ardor”.

Pistacia formed when vocalist Vic Gregg desired to be on stage instead of behind the merch booth. Fueled by passion and a desire to realize her high school dreams, she learned how to scream and put the lineup together with her classmates. They started as a Pierce the Veil ensemble but later began writing originals. To date, they have released five stand-alone singles, and are gearing up to release their EP in the fall. They promise that each of the tracks on it are full-fledged bangers that will provoke and challenge the listener.

Pistacia is recommended for fans of Pierce the Veil, Slipknot, and Bring Me the Horizon.

Their debut EP “Edgy” is due out on October 21, 2022.

About: In late 2019, Vic Gregg founded Gen-Z, an emo-throwback metalcore outfit. Members Ron Bernhaut, Theo Chaouat, Ben Sonsire-Cummings, and Thomson Estabrook complete the aesthetic onslaught that comprises Pistacia’s live show—in the scene’s dearth of energetic performance, the band found their niche, bringing blistering riffs to tight compact venues with pure animus and palpable vitriol. They have a nostalgia-borne affinity for all things emo and maintain a reckless proclivity for gothic imagery and provocative allure. With a marriage between heavy breakdowns, catchy choruses, and pathos-driven lyrics, Pistacia is that edgy, rebellious act you’ve been craving.

0 GRAVESHADOW Debut “The Betrayer” Music Video + More Live Shows Announced

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 23, 2022

GRAVESHADOW Debut “The Betrayer” Music Video

More Live Shows Announced

The Sacramento-based quintet GRAVESHADOW – who deftly mixes symphonic/gothic metal with elements and influences from a variety of styles to create something epic, progressive, melodic and powerful – release a brand-new music video for “The Betrayer” from their recently released comeback album, ‘The Uncertain Hour’, which can be seen here – https://youtu.be/fshpIWhMTbQ

The footage that comprises the clip was shot on the band’s recent west coast headlining tour from a show at Seattle’s Funhouse venue by Karl Whinnery, bassist from tour and labelmates Vintersea.

“’The Betrayer’ was written with the intention of continuing the more power metal direction that was introduced with the release of [the first single] ‘Gwynnbleidd,’” explains guitarist Aaron Robitsch. [Guitarist] Will also wanted to make more use of guitar harmonies, and I think this song showcases that well. It also continues a theme we have become known for — lyrics about World of Warcraft.”

“This song became an early favorite of mine during the recording process. Aaron worked out the idea to have a video shot while we were on tour and the fantastic Karl Whinnery from Vintersea helped us out by shooting it,” states guitarist William Lloyd Walker. “Really happy with how it came out and a huge thanks to Karl for helping us put this together.”

GRAVESHADOW’s third album, ‘The Uncertain Hour,’ was produced by Miss May I guitarist Justin Aufdemkampe (Clutch, War of Ages), mastered by Alberto De Icaza (Crobot, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) and features artwork by Roman Ismaylov (Battle Beast, Beast In Black). It sees a new lineup for GRAVESHADOW now augmented by the newfound energy that has been brought into the band by the soaring melodic performance of new vocalist Rachl “Raxx” Quinn and the rumbling rhythm section of new bassist Luci Rae and new drummer Bones Padilla. The returning guitar duo of William Lloyd Walker and Aaron Robitsch once again deliver a beautiful display of guitar histrionics that tastefully mix searing shred with warm melody, while Aaron even adds some harsh backing vocals. GRAVESHADOW are back on the scene with a story to tell. Intertwining melodic highs and crushing lows to sweep listeners away on a journey of self-discovery, loss and the will to carry on.

Jewelcase CDs and limited-edition vinyl (200 copies) of ‘The Uncertain Hour’ are available in stores or can be ordered online from www.smarturl.com/graveshadow, as well as digital downloads/streaming.

Three digital singles and videos have been released in the buildup for the album. The first taste of new music from the reformed lineup came with The Witcher inspired song “Gwynnebleidd” https://youtu.be/XrorDG70g3Q way back in May 2020. It proved the revamped quintet could create new music and be accepted by their existing fanbase and a new audience. Collaborating on more new music further sessions continued and were evidenced by “Soldier Of 34” https://youtu.be/qXDzhkfRjuM and “The Swordsman” (the latter even featuring guest vocals from Chelsea Murphy of Dawn of Ouroboros, Cailleach Calling and Tegmentum) https://youtu.be/WnFOUN9S4aw.

Additionally, GRAVESHADOW will perform two shows in Northern California next month with direct support on both shows coming from buzzworthy So Cal band Our Dying World.

Upcoming GRAVESHADOW live shows
10/14 Cafe Colonial – Sacramento, CA
10/15 Hotel Utah Saloon – San Francisco, CA

GRAVESHADOW‘s previous album, 2018’s ‘Ambition’s Price,’ was given accolades by Metal Utopia for being “a great record with lots of great moments for fans of Nightwish and The Birthday Massacre.” Metal Nation praised ‘Ambition’s Price,’ declaring that “GRAVESHADOW has taken what has become a somewhat complacent and stagnant style of metal and breathed fresh life into it, creating something vibrant and memorable.” The fantastical lyrical themes that were explored by the band on ‘Ambition’s Price’ – their debut record for M-Theory Audio and the follow-up to the group’s incubatory 2015 debut full-length ‘Nocturnal Resurrection’ – were applauded by critics and fans alike. The band followed the release of ‘Ambition’s Price’ by winning over new audiences with extensive touring alongside bands such as Arkona, Sirenia, Exmortus, Night Demon, and Unleash The Archers.

0 The Secret Places Of The Earth (Barrett Klesko – All Else Fails, The Order of Chaos) Releases Experimental Guitarwork Album “The Space Between The Stars”

Montreal, QC – September 23, 2022

The Secret Places Of The Earth (Barrett Klesko – All Else Fails, The Order of Chaos) Releases Experimental Guitarwork Album “The Space Between The Stars”

New Album “The Space Between The Stars” Out Sept 23rd

Canadian experimental guitar project The Secret Places Of The Earth has announced a second album coming up entitled “The Space Between Stars”. Already released is the single “Mother Brain” and now fans have the opportunity to dig into the spacey, ambient, experimental guitar work in full.

The man behind the project is award-winning Canadian composer, and visual artist Barrett Klesko (All Else Fails, The Order of Chaos) who writes the songs in a flow state, messing around a little with tones and effects, then after finding a few riffs that feel good, he’ll start to play. Essentially, he records the songs live using a looper, but he’s playing more to his own ears, than to any rigid musical rule or structure. He looks for his playing to evoke a specific sensation or emotion, and he follows it. He plays more as an observer than a performer. Klesko explains what fans can expect in the future:

“I compose along a certain path until I notice the sound of my work beginning to change, which signals to me that I am moving on to a new set of songs. I more or less follow my intuition in that regard. Fans can expect a lot more music, I have worked quite a bit ahead, and plan to release new albums every few months. As of August 2022, The Secret Places of the Earth has an unreleased catalogue of over 80 songs, which is growing weekly.”

As for playing live, Klesko is still considering the best way to bring this music into a live scenario. Because of the experimental nature of the music, in regards to experimenting with it before he hits a flow with a song, he will need a very specific venue or experience to properly convey it and isn’t sure what that is quite yet.

The album was written and performed by Barrett Klesko, who also produced, and engineered, it, and the mastering was done by Colin Noel. The album artwork was done by dianico.

Haunted, hypnotic, and healing, The Secret Places Of The Earth is recommended for fans of Repulsive, Midwife, and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma.

The album “The Space Between The Stars” is available as of September 23rd, 2022 on the following platforms:

Thesecretplacesoftheearth.bandcamp.com, Spotify, Apple Music

Track Listing:
1. Mother Brain (6:25)
2. The Space Between the Stars (3:12)
3. Fragile Futures (3:01)
4. Drifts (4:52)
5. Breach (3:06)
Album Length 20:19

About: The Secret Places of the Earth is a non-linear, live compositional experiment by award-winning Canadian composer, and visual artist Barrett Klesko (All Else Fails, The Order of Chaos, FadeBack Studios United). His first album “Stormwalker” was released in early 2022 to a modest, though enthusiastic fan and critical reception. Described as darkly beautiful, magnetic, and often unsettling, “Stormwalker” has been gaining momentum with a growing cult following due to its organic live feel and hypnotizing depth.

Dallas Toler-Wade, was a long-standing 18-year member of the brilliantly Egyptian-themed metal band, Nile, where he composed the music for hit songs such as, “Execration Text”, “Permitting the Noble Dead to Descend to the Underworld”, and “Lashed to the Slave Stick”. Toler-Wade was also featured in Guitar World magazine alongside founding member and guitarist/vox/songwriter Karl Sanders. With his new band Narcotic Wasteland, he is pleased to announce the second single “The Best Times Have Passed” off the yet-to-be-titled new album coming in 2023.

Toler-Wade comments on the single:

“When I was writing it I was at another big turning point in my life. I was feeling my own mortality. I was feeling beat down. As with me, I still manage to find good things within it all and pull myself out of it time and time again. I think we can all relate to the fact that that it’s not forever and we better make the best of things while we can.”

They expect good reception for the upcoming single, as a band, they have grown majorly and they sound focused, and mature through their writing, recording, and performing. They have released two albums, 2014’s self-titled and 2017’s “Delirium Tremens” with their third record due out in 2023.

Dallas worked once again with drummer, engineer, producer Erik Schultek, who is no stranger to the band having recorded drums, engineered and produced the debut album.

Inspired mostly by thrash metal and classic heavy metal, Narcotic Wasteland is becoming more thrash and speed and less death metal and getting better at writing material that is meaningful and powerful. They are recommended for fans of Vader, The Crown, and Nile.

In additional news, Narcotic Wasteland will be hitting the road for USA tour dates supporting German heavy metal legends during October (dates listed below). Those who attend will get to experience the full onslaught of Narcotic Wasteland. Always well rehearsed, they deliver a tight performance including dual guitars. From harmonies to counterpart melodies it gives the band some of that traditional metal style. They are also not afraid to challenge the audience with an array of styles from whiplash-inducing fast metal to infectious arena metal.

About:

Narcotic Wasteland started as a side project Dallas Toler-Wade had been working on the past few years when he was not touring or in the writing/studio with metal heavyweights “Nile.”

‘So I just started writing some songs kind of more in the style of things I was playing before my time in Nile. The more we started working on these demos the more we wanted to complete an album and take it to the stage!!! Our observation of what was going on in parts of the town we grew up in and in other parts of the world fueled a new level of angst for me personally.” DTW

Canadian NWOTHM TYRANTS OF CHAOS Moshing Lyric Video “Red Rage”

New Album “Relentless Thirst for Power” Out Now!

Tyrants of Chaos, from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada are a balls-out metal assault that is true to the classic styles of the big 4 who started it all. They have their third album recently “Relentless Thirst for Power” unleashed and have a fresh lyric video for the track “Red Rage” to get heart rates elevated. They introduce the track and the album in their own words:

“The song Red Rage is a historically accurate depiction of the Battle of Bannockburn and musically it is Maiden-style metal with a Scottish jig thrown in for good measure. As for the album, we believe fans will be blown away and left speechless. It’s pure heavy metal from beginning to end. No filler.”

Along with this song, fans will also be able to dig into tracks like “The Black Gap” a heavy-hitting WWII-themed metal banger that will induce moshing; “Mourning Sickness” another mosh-worthy banger with a darker, sludgier tone; and “Skull Crusher” a fast-paced face-melter filled with intense vocals, shredding guitars and a thunderous rhythm section.

Tyrants of Chaos already have two previous albums under their belts, “The Calm Before The Storm” (2016) and “Into Oblivion” (2019), and this new offering is the result of years of practice, collaboration, and passion. It is pure heavy metal – a neck-wrecking, in-your-face, relentless metal assault that will have you begging for more.

“Relentless Thirst for Power” was produced by guitarist Arik Wagner, mixed and mastered by Johnny Gasparic at MCC Recording Studio Calgary and the album artwork was done by Pierre-Alain D. at 3mmi Design.

Powerful and rhythmic, Tyrants of Chaos is unapologetic, raw heavy metal suitable for fans of Megadeth, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden.

The lyric video for “Red Rage” can be seen and heard via its premiere on MetalInsider HERE.

The album “Relentless Thirst For Power” was released on August 19, 2022.

Rockshots Records – EVERFROST Shares New Single “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” ft. Mikael Salo (Thy Row)

New Anime Cover Song EP “Frostbites” Out November 2022

Finnish symphonic power metal band Everfrost is sharing their next single “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” ft. Mikael Salo (Thy Row) from their forthcoming EP of anime cover songs entitled “Frostbites” that is due out on November 11th via Rockshots Records.

Music Video – https://youtu.be/gulzQhT2pto

Digital – https://bfan.link/gotta-catch-em-all

The band adds about the track:

“When deciding the track listing for our first EP of anime cover songs, one of the ‘must-do’ candidates was ‘Gotta Catch ‘Em All’ from the worldwide phenomenon franchise Pokémon! We were kids when the first games dropped and the anime series started airing on television. We all have precious memories of waking up to this song before school or on weekend mornings. Aside from being an absolute banger, it preaches such an inspirational message to get out there, be the best you can be, and achieve whatever it is you are after. Our version brings back the magic and charm of the original version and uses the force of Finnish metal to empower this message even more. This song will also be the second to last EVERFROST song that our former vocalist Mikael Salo will sing on, giving one of his best performances yet. We also again had the pleasure to work with vocalist extraordinaires Yannis Papadopoulos (Beast in Black), Bini Silvennoinen (Blame Me!), and Sara Vanhamäki (Strömmer) (Shereign, ex-Fear of Domination) when recreating the iconic backing vocals of the original version. Put this on anytime, it’ll give you the nostalgia rush of a lifetime!”

Drummer Jope adds: “Pokémon was the thing in my days and it was my first touch in anime. I remember rocking link cable with my classmates battling or trading to get the best teams in Pokémon red/blue. ‘Never give up til it’s over’ is a line from Ash I use as a motivator in a lot of things”

Keyboardist Benji also adds: “as a young kid my school life wasn’t great, but Pokémon would get me out of bed in the morning.”

EVERFROST is a Finnish symphonic power metal band known for incorporating Japanese anime and manga influences into their music, visuals, and storytelling.

Metal fans and anime enthusiasts alike have described EVERFROST numerous times as the band they were always looking for as the music is created from a passionate desire to energize you, make you happy, and take you away from the struggles of everyday life.

The familiar influences of classic and modern Finnish heavy metal (Nightwish, Beast in Black, Sonata Arctica, Wintersun, etc) are present in the EVERFROST sound, however, the band’s trademark wintery style combined with elements from non-metal genres such as Eurobeat, dance-pop and anime music bring a unique freshness to the mix. The result is an addictive cocktail that has proven to find its way into a wide variety of playlists, DJ sets, parties, and live events.

Another big reason people fall in love with EVERFROST is because of how immersive the band’s universe is. Each album features ongoing stories of a group of characters living in a cursed city, sealed off from the world. The concept is inspired by the ‘secret cities’ experiments established during the Cold War.

The band’s latest full-length album ‘Winterider’ was in particular quite a unique release in the metal world, being a concept album featuring this world and characters in a fully coherent manga comic, following the story and working in tandem with the songs. It received critical acclaim and high scores from multiple well-known metal media outlets such as Kaaoszine, Powerplay Magazine, Bravewords, and Tuonela Magazine.

“9/10 The next great power metal band.” – BRAVEWORDS

The album also made it to Disk UNION Japan’s top 10 charts for two weeks, charting at number 1 for the first week.
The band also won Tuonela Magazine’s ‘best new discovery’ award for 2019.

While the music may sound energetic and cheery, the lyrical themes are usually dark, melancholic, and vulnerable, dealing often with escapism through fantasy and entertainment, death and loss, social isolation, and hardship. These feelings and ideas are manifested in the stories and characters, however, the core inspiration stems from how cruel and cold the real world can be at times. This combination of happy music with sad lyrics empowers listeners in whatever stage they are going through or have been through in their lives.

The band features keyboardist and songwriter Benji Klint-Connelly, guitarists Samuli Heiskanen and Joose Ylianttila, bassist Roi Partanen and drummer Jope ‘James’ Salminen. Past members have included vocalists Hew Wagner and Mikael Salo (Thy Row, Dyecrest). The band has also featured and worked with many other esteemed musicians such as Rob Lundgren (Mentalist, Reveal), Yannis Papadopoulos (Beast in Black), Asim Searah (Damnation Plan, ex-Wintersun), Sara Strömmer (Shereign, ex-Fear of Domination) and Bini Silvennoinen (Blame Me!).

New Album “Monument of Velocity” Out Now!

Akademia-Award-winning producer, engineer, and songwriter Matt Miller side-steps these industry achievements to embark on something deeply introspective and personal; a transcendent, reactionary and vile personage embodying soaring progressive melodies and captivating crushing rhythms which engulf the listener in black clouds of desperation and shimmering hope. “Monument of Velocity” is the third original album from Miller, who also has four cover albums out. He set out to push his creative limits and share his passion with the world. The single “Coral Sword” now has a playthrough video being released, so fans can see him up close and personal, working his magic. He comments on the track and the album:

“Monument of Velocity takes you on a journey and makes a bold statement. I like to think of the songs on the album as scenes from a movie. By writing the majority of the album without a guitar in hand I was able to think outside the box and come up with more interesting melodies and more dynamic rhythms. This process allowed me to achieve a greater level of melodicism and generate a stronger emotional response. “Coral Sword” is a song that was written based upon the creation myth of the islands of Japan.”

Even though Miller’s music is instrumental, he likes to think of the guitar as a voice. Which in turn makes him ask what is the guitar saying? He is able to easily convey emotion, tone, and a story even without the use of vocals. Throughout his releases, his music has developed a more modern sound in both the music and the production. Musically the songs are more well written and a lot of the ideas he writes are being accurately represented. He is always trying to push himself as a musician and this is reflected in his discography.

Influenced primarily by technical and progressive death metal with a dash of power metal and symphonic metal as well, Matt Miller’s music is recommended for fans of Obscura, Dragon Force, and Racer X.

The guitar playthrough video for “Coral Sword” can be viewed and heard at https://youtu.be/wQ18boWD4G0

“Monument of Velocity” was released on July 19, 2022 via Blood Blast Distribution (powered by Nuclear Blast and Believe Digital) and available on Spotify, Bandcamp, Apple Music.

About:
Akademia-Award-winning producer, engineer, and songwriter MATT MILLER side-steps these industry achievements to embark on something deeply introspective and personal; a transcendent, reactionary and vile personage embodying soaring progressive melodies and captivating crushing rhythms which engulf the listener in black clouds of desperation and shimmering hope.

Drawing upon the gut-wrenching timed-precision of European death metal stalwarts NECROPHAGIST and SPAWN OF POSSESSION, MATT MILLER progressively blends this approach with deep synthetic and symphonic atmospheres like that of DEVIN TOWNSEND, often arriving at surprisingly emotive and heart-clenching metallic passages like that of RIVERS OF NIHIL.

Calling upon other single-member death metal projects such as PUTRID PILE or INSIDIOUS DECREPANCY, the live performance can best be described as a reclaiming and repainting of the earth by a relentlessly sweeping and deranged berzerker appealing to the vast minions of the extreme music. The combination of elements within MATT MILLER distills the traditions of the international metal realm, the progressive atmospheres of modernity, and reactions to a vile world into a single unrelenting persona of despair and vengeance.

MATT MILLER’s first self-produced instrumental EP came in 2017, drawing on influences from classic metal bands such as MEGADETH and IRON MAIDEN to shredders like YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and PAUL GILBERT, while combining a technical death metal approach to create a maximum intensity music with a frenetic and frantic feel and ferocious atmosphere. Since then, and a few releases into this brief career, MATT MILLER boasts 12,000 consistent monthly listeners on Spotify before hitting the international touring circuit. This was garnered from his 2017 EP, the 2021 self-released ‘Decrepit Shed’ LP, the ‘Reekomposer/Decomposer’ covers double LP, as well as the ‘8E’s’ 1980’s themed covers LP.

In 2022 Matt released the formidable original instrumental LP Monument of Velocity on Blood Blast Distribution. Matt also toured supporting Rings of Saturn on the CYBER SHRED TOUR 2022. 29 shows encompassing the continental United States. Matt has released the cover LP Only What the Light Allows through Blood Blast Distribution as well.

Matt Miller hails from the rain soaked northern Oregon Coast; influenced by the natural foreboding environment. Moving into the present, MATT MILLER has joined up with Extreme Management Group to spread a singularly relentless auditory mind-bend.

Montreal’s Eternal Closure has a shiny new album “At the Center of It All – Chapter I” ready for ears. One that is more diverse, heavier, and more technical than anything they have done before. It shows how their songwriting abilities have taken a whole new step and incorporate prog, and djent elements simmered in with the solid core base. The lyrics come from the heart about what they stand for, how they feel about a range of subjects, and how they get mad at those who reject nuance and empathy in their lives. They comment on the album:

“We are beyond excited to present our latest work to the public. It is our most ambitious project to date. It features bigger and more intricate arrangements, a more aggressive edge as well an interplay between female and male vocals. We wanted to show how versatile we are but also how heavy we can be. The lyrics are darker and meaner overall, so the music had to reflect that. We’ve decided to split the album into two halves as we felt it would help give the material more chance to breathe. It’s not quite what I’d consider a concept album, but many lyrics and musical ideas are re-used throughout.”

Composed of six tracks, this album is the first of two parts that will have 13 in total. The band split their material like this to allow for maximum breathing time for each release. The second part can be expected next year.

Like their previous records, the album was produced, mixed, and mastered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy), who has become an integral part of the band’s sound. The album artwork was done by Pascal Marcoux and Jonathan Lauzon.

The band is a fun one to watch live, they don’t take themselves too seriously, and the rare sight of three guitarists adds an extra dimension to their music that you never knew you were missing out on. “At The Centre Of It All” is an incredible-sounding record that will blow people’s minds. It is recommended for fans of Periphery, Killswitch Engage, and As I Lay Dying.

The full album “At The Centre Of It All – Chapter I” comes out on September 23, 2022, and can be heard in advance via its stream premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

Exitus Stratagem Records – “Collateral Damage” Is Coming From AITTALA’s Doomy New Album “Live to Regret”

“Live to Regret” Out November 7th

Aittala can best be described as eclectic doom, they have taken inspiration from other genres such as sludge, power, and traditional metal. They are gearing up to release their sixth album “Live to Regret” this fall and to intrigue listeners, they offering their first single “Collateral Damage” accompanied with a music video. The single is a hard rock/metal track about dealing with relationship ultimatums set to catchy, memorable riffs and comes with a video. They had this to say about it:

“It was the first song written for the album during the pandemic. The lyrics were inspired by a very chaotic relationship one of the band members was going through at that time. The girlfriend was very controlling and kept drawing lines and giving ultimatums until it reached the breaking point and the relationship shattered. The music flowed as organically as the lyrics and it came together very quickly. We are very proud of this song and video and excited for the fans to experience it!”

Watch and listen to “Collateral Damage” via its premiere on TheCirclePit YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/ZKuIKuQohoE

The album “Live To Regret” has eleven tracks, all written during the pandemic, and conveys a sense of chaos that the band members were experiencing at the time. Compared to the albums that came before it, the core of the Aittala sound remains constant, but steadily matures over time. The first two albums were more experimental using programmed drums with heavy use of keys/synthesizers. After drummer Gary ‘Zeus’ Smith joined the band in 2012, the writing started to tune in to his drumming style and become more guitar orientated. In 2019, bassist Ali Lugo joined and brought a different musical perspective that is infused throughout the new album.

The original incarnation of Aittala was formed in 1991 in The Netherlands while guitarist/vocalist Eric Aittala was stationed there with the United States military. For about 18 months, they played shows around The Netherlands and started to create a buzz around the scene. Unfortunately, Aittala had to leave the country at the end of 1993 when his military contract ended. The project lay dormant for quite some time while Eric played in other bands, but he continued to write and record Aittala songs as a side project. In 2009, he made the decision to concentrate on Aittala again as his only musical endeavor.

Aittala’s sound is one that is hard to narrow down, they have managed to etch out a uniqueness all their own, but will find favor with those interested in Mastodon, Eyehategod, and Baroness.

“Live to Regret” will be available on November 7, 2022, via Exitus Stratagem Records and was produced by Eric Aittala and John E. Wooten IV, who also mixed the record along with mastering by Dave Harris at Studio B Mastering. Album artwork by Mariano Pugliese.

About: The music of AITTALA (pronounced ‘EYE-tah-la’) crosses many metal genres; it’s hard to put it into just one category. The sound infuses elements of classic heavy metal, doom, progressive, power, thrash, and hard rock with lyrics drawing inspiration from the darker side of the human condition. The AITTALA sound has been cited for being unique which is no easy feat in the metal genre.

The first version of AITTALA was formed in 1991 while Eric Aittala was living in Holland. With fellow American Tim on vocals and Dutch bandmates Ed (drums) and Jon (bass), the band became a staple of the Dutch metal scene.

With the release of the 3-song EP ‘Selling Heaven’ in summer of 1993, AITTALA opened for such bands as THE GATHERING and SADIST. Unfortunately, as the demo started to create a buzz in the underground European metal scene, Eric had to return to the US and disbanded AITTALA.

Over the next decade or so, Eric played in numerous bands (TRIBE, MAGNETHEAD, DWELL) and lost focus on AITTALA.

Near the end of the 00’s, Eric decided it was time to refocus his efforts on the AITTALA brand. From 2009 to 2016, AITTALA released 4 full-length albums: ‘Bed of Thorns’ (2009), ‘Haunt Your Flesh’ (2011), ‘Effigy’ (2014) and ‘American Nightmare’ (2016). Each album showcasing a natural progression of song writing and lyrical content but retaining the core AITTALA sound and evolving it.

In 2019, AITTALA signed with Curtain Call Records and released the band’s fifth full-length album ‘False Pretenses’. It was ten brand new songs that not only continued the song writing evolution of heavier but catchy songs, but also sonically. AITTALA used an entirely different approach for the recording, mixing and mastering to create the best AITTALA album to date.

The current lineup of AITTALA consists of Gary ‘Zeus’ Smith (THE FIFTH, ex-MR BLACKWELL) on drums and Ali Lugo (ex-AGE OF DESPAIR) on bass.

They continue to write, record and tour to bring AITTALA to the masses with plans in 2022 to unleash their sixth studio album entitled “Live To Regret” to be released by label Exitus Stratagem Records.

“The band’s sound is difficult to pigeonhole because they incorporate a variety of styles. The common element in all the songs is the potent groove. On tracks like “Black Coffin” and “Afterthought” stoner/doom is at the forefront, while songs such as “Disowned” have a more traditional metal vibe. There are progressive influences on “How Much Longer,” while the closer “Debt” is a piano based ballad. Even with so many disparate styles, Aittala bring everything together into a cohesive whole.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“I would describe them as an eclectic Doom Metal band, although their sound is a bit tough to define. That’s ultimately a good thing though, and I enjoy the refreshment of something different. My only major complaint is that on some songs, the vocals and lyrics are so drawn out that they become a little boring and you end up waiting a bit for something cool to happen. The good news is something cool usually does end up happening” – Metal-Temple

“In the metal world, bands can start to sound the same and Aittala steps outside of the box. With clear crisp vocals, grinding rhythms and well executed leads, this band is definitely in a league of their own.” – The Metal Channel

GREBER Unveil Music Video For Harsh Sludge/Hardcore Track “Nosebleed”

New Album “Fright Without” Out Now!

Editing by Youth and Rust
Left to Right – Steve Vargas – Drums and Vocals, Marc Bourgon – Bass and Vocals

Greber is a harsh grind/hardcore act, coming at ya’ from the east coast of Canada. They have recently released a new album “Fright Without”, which is their fourth full-length. They now have a video for the track “Nosebleed”, an honest look at reality, which will throw listeners directly into the fray that is their low-end dominant, noise-encrusted, hardcore grind. They explain in their own words:

“This one is a bit all over the place. Maybe TOO all over the place perhaps. We dig it nonetheless. Topically….and orally….this one is just a reckoning with the fact that we are all closer to death than we can ever imagine. Either that or further than we can imagine. The nug of bullshit that I’m getting at is that few people are ever aware of the fact that they are doing something for the last time. The last time is just the last time and then whatever it is you were doing, ends. Life. Your car. Your hair. Your friends. Just love the shit out of as much as you can throughout the duration of the current nightmare you’re experiencing. There I go pontificating again.”

The video for “Nosebleed” can be seen and heard via its premiere on EverythingIsNoise HERE.

For the duo of Steve Vargas (drums/vocals) (The Great Sabatini) and Marc Bourgon (bass, vocals) (ex-F*ck The Facts), the lyrics always come first and the rest of the song is built around them. Primary songwriter Bourgon mentions that he’s started taking way longer to form and conceptualize song ideas before even picking up the bass and it helped him keep things focused.

Compared to their other albums, they say that this new one is the same, but different; there is evidence of evolution, but fans who have been with them from the beginning will still get along with the new offering.

Greber invites the world to indulge in gritty vocals and a harsh low-end attack. They are recommended listening for fans of Unearthly Trance, Cult Leader and Primitive Man.

“Fright Without” is available from the following labels: Ancient Temple and Nofuneral for Vinyl, CD, and Cassette in Canada, Hibernation Release for Vinyl in the USA, and 7 Degrees and Fresh Outbreak for Vinyl in Europe.

“Greber is here to do one thing, and it’s throw aural punches. The band is now streaming their new single “Into Silence” alongside a new video directed by Torin Langen, both of which are as fantastic as they are disorienting.” – Metal Injection

“Crazed and raging, it reaches fever pitches of savage rampaging. But even in a song (Tree Carving) that barely clears the minute-and-a-half mark, Greber do what they always do — shift gears and contort moods, and electrify the music with constantly changing fretwork and drum patterns. Oh yes, these dudes know how to spin heads as well as traumatize them.” – NoCleanSinging

“the riffs that power Fright Without are frequent and come in a variety of forms. Whether it’s the sludgy plod on songs like “Larkinitis” and “Rats of Subversion” or the full grindcore assault on “Fabricated Purpose” or “Into Silence”, there’s a surprising amount of variety on the record, an attention to textural detail that belies the band’s instinctual approach. While the riff may not be the most important structural element to every Greber song, it’s nevertheless the thing that first grabs the listener’s attention” – Exclaim

“the band’s forthcoming fourth album, Fright Without which grows their combining of elements of punishing sludge, doom, grind and metallic hardcore into a frantic wall of sound that reminds as much of Swans, Napalm Death and Coalesce as it does Big Business, Burnt by the Sun and Painkiller.” – Decibel Magazine

“Chaotic force of nature Greber are set to return with their latest full-length offering Fright Without and they’re angrier and louder than ever. The band hit the listener with a furious wall of sound that sits somewhere between grindcore, sludge and hardcore…. another solid notch in the duo’s already impressive belt ” – Cave Dweller Music

“It goes without saying that Fright Without is an intensely oppressive record, but given that it only spends half an hour trying to suffocate you it’s definitely worth letting it have a go. If you’re a fan of the bands mentioned at the top of this review (Mastiff, Helpless, and Yautja) you should have no disappointments here, and the two-piece dynamic actually ends up working in Greber’s favour in that it sets them apart at least a touch from an increasingly crowded scene of bands devoted so proudly and exclusively to misery and mire.” – Noob Heavy
