“With a bewildering, cross-pollinated sound that makes The Dillinger Escape Plan sound like Nickelback, the math-metal crew Autocatalytica are pushing the boundaries so far that they may just fall off the world’s edge…  While the math-metal scene seems to have stayed in the same creative spot for the last 15 years, Autocatalytica’s music exists in its own psychotic realm, wherein jazz-tinged extremity and melodic mazes conjure a disorientating blur of psychedelic noise. The band have also earned themselves a formidable reputation as a truly mind-bending live act.” – Metal Hammer

“Crazy mathcore meets jazz-infused progressive music and avant-garde… Fabulously unique and always thrilling”- Metal Trenches

“Autocatalytica aren’t alone in bringing in so many outsides elements into a mathcore-focused sound, they are definitely one of the most ambitious and grandest groups I’ve heard do so to date.” – No Clean Singing

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS
1. Autocatalytica has had upwards of 15 different members, so many so that at one point they printed T-shirts for all ex-members with “I used to be in Autocatalytica” printed on them.
2. Autocatalytica has always been extremely DIY for better or worse, with Eric Thorfinnson doing most of the mixing/production on every release.
3.Autocatalytica has a strong connection to classical music, with an arrangement of Claude Debussy’s “Tarantelle Styrienne” appearing on their first release.
4. At one point during the initial recruiting process, Autocatalytica would have potentially had 3/4 of its member’s named Eric(k)
5. Many of Autocatalytica’s lyrics are influenced by Eric Thorfinnson’s experience with meditation retreats & practice.

Autocatalytica is a bubbling cauldron of scatter-brained prog-metal insanity helmed by Guitarist/Vocalist Eric Thorfinnson.

Formed as a solo project in 2009, Thorfinnson has always drawn inspiration from a vast collage of different artists. From The Dillinger Escape plan, to The Mars Volta, to Bjork, to Devin Townsend, to 20th century composer Bela Bartok, Autocatalytica’s sound is sure to surprise and intrigue listeners of all persuasions.

Upon moving to Boston to study at Berklee in 2010, Thorfinnson recruited guitarist Erik Sorensen, Drummer Emmett Ceglia, and bassist Jon Anderson to flesh out Autocatalytica’s line-up. Over the next few years the band played its first shows and in April of 2012 released their debut EP “Horror Vacui”.

The group relocated to Brooklyn in the fall of 2012 and immediately began to rehearse and write a full-length record. In June 2013 the group began recording its eponymous LP, while continually playing shows along the east coast of the US. They released their Debut LP “Autocatalytica” in June 2014, and continued to play shows in and around Brooklyn, all the while furiously composing a follow-up record.

In early 2015, Thorfinnson found out he was going to have to move back to his native Toronto, ON, but despite this, the band decided to finish writing and recording the songs to their follow-up LP. In October 2015 tragedy struck the group when Guitarist Erik Sorensen suddenly passed away from an undiagnosed heart condition. Despite reeling from this massive trauma and coming to terms with Thorfinnson’s impending relocation, the group finished tracking drums to their next LP and played their final show as a Brooklyn-based incarnation on Nov. 21st, 2015.

Thorfinnson spent most of 2016 toiling away at the tracking and mixing of this next record at home in his native Oakville, Ontario, and December 9th, 2016 the group released the LP “Vicissitudes”, a 16-track maximalist genre-gauntlet of sporadic insanity.

Over the next few years, Thorfinnson spent most of his time on other projects, as the future of Autocatalytica remained uncertain. In 2018 he decided there was still more music to be had from Autocatalytica, and teamed up with his friend and drummer Neilroy Miranda (of local Jazz-math stalwarts “Dog Drive Mantis”) to rehearse and record a new record. The idea for this record was to be a much more collaborative effort than previous releases that had seen Thorfinnson handing all vocal and most guitar duties. The record features a smattering of collaborators including Parliament Owls / Telomere’s Devlin Flynn, Northern Heirs’ Scott Carruthers, and Plethora’s Gary Walsh to name a few. The LP “Powerclashing Maximalism” explores all corners of Autocatalytica’s sound in a tight eight tracks and 36-minute runtime, from the Meshuggah-esque stomp of “Borndun” to the Jazzy Math Rock of “Cheggo”. While at this time Autocatalytica exists solely as a recording project, but no one knows what the future holds!

Thorfinnson adds about the upcoming album:

“‘Powerclashing Maximalism’ is an expression of the many different facets of progressive and heavy music I am engaging at this point in my life, with little to no regard for thematic consistency between tracks. Each song is a fully realized island of uniqueness that expresses something totally different from the previous one. On the last record, I felt like I was really losing perspective with what was good and quality (especially in the vocal department) seeing as I did so much of it completely isolated. With this record, I really wanted to move away from that mindset and integrate as many collaborators as possible to create a sort of “Broken Social Scene” of metal type vibe. This was a fantastically inspiring experience and I am really grateful for having been able to work with so many different amazing musicians throughout the process.”

Autocatalytica’s third album “Powerclashing Maximalism” is due out October 2020.

“Each band member draws in a different musical influence, from Alexisonfire (post-hardcore) to Blink-182 (pop-punk), to even Coheed and Cambria (progressive rock), creating a sound that is impossible to be kept in a box.” – Asha Swann

“For fans of hardcore, punk and just good rock n roll, people from all over the spectrum should get on this!” – Punkanormal Activity

L-R- Alex Hodges (guitar, vocals), Jeremy Toppings (bass, vocals), Darien Swolfs (drums), Adam Sakauye (lead vocals) and Aaron Stafford (guitar, vocals)

Starting out on the Ottawa metal/hardcore scene, T-Rex Marathon has adopted a unique sound that comes from a mix of Alternative Rock, Punk, and Post-Hardcore.

Formed by friends in high school, the band began to really take shape almost by accident and through dumb luck. The current lineup consists of Aaron Stafford (guitar/bass/keys/vocals), Adam Sakauye (lead vocals), Alex Hodges (guitar/bass/keys/vocals), Darien Swolfs (drums/percussion), and Jeremy Toppings (bass/vocals).

In a fiercely democratic writing process, every single member has input and a veto, sometimes resulting in a very long but completely organic process resulting in a synthesis of something everyone is happy with. As the band progresses, so does the love and attention that is put into each and everything they produce. The T-Rex Marathon family is and has always been, dedicated to making kick-ass music and leaving a mark in the industry, not only for them, but for their fans.

The boys in T-Rex, as the band is called for short, endlessly value their dedicated fans, affectionately known as Marathoners. After all, it is for them that they continue to write about what they want and play what feels right. T-Rex Marathon’s music is a simple blend of attack and melody that has the main goal of being not only fun to play, but fun to listen and rock out to.

The stage is a performing area, and this band refuses to give anything but their all at every show. They have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with bands such as: Of Burning Empires, Flesh Over Faith, Faithful Unto Death, and Project Mantra. They have also played Wretched Fest 1&3, Unite and Ignite 2012, 2014.

To date, the band has released 2 EPs Aurelia (2017), Eponymous (2016), and are readying to share with fans their first full length “Days Without Incident ” due out October 16th, 2020.

Fresh out of Calgary, Canada comes Lost In Static. What started as a cover band called Moron Mountain many years ago has now fully blossomed into an original metal act that has been playing stages since early 2019.

Comprised of seasoned musicians Lance MacBain, Noureen Amin, Jared Boyd, Tyler Johansen the metal band has just started their musical journey fusing the djent elements of progressive metal with metalcore.

The group works together to create music that is both aggressive and fun, with MacBain generally writing the music and MacBain, Johansen and Boyd collectively writing the lyrics. Relating to their band name, the messages they send through their lyrics convey relation to the feeling of getting lost in the “static” of the world, and all the events that take place; an almost overwhelming feeling of white noise.

With an emphasis on producing a tight live show full of headbanging, energy and moshing, Lost In Static is hitting the ground running with their debut album being released soon.

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS
1. NeoNera filmed the video for Saviour in a collapsing former coffee factory on top of raccoon waste and dead birds.
2. Music Video actress (Alice) was easily the coldest person that day. In between scenes, the band gave her a blanket, but she never complained.
3. NeoNera dropped out of a festival because the promoter/organizer tried to silence their song Saviour’s message on social media.
4. NeoNera once played a show in the center of the sun. Played at venue at about 4pm and the sun was directly on us making it feel about 600 degrees up there.
5. Social justice isn’t a bad word.
6. Right band wrong bill. NeoNera should have played upstairs. This about the fact that we are usually the heaviest or the lightest band on a bill. We get booked with both metalcore bands and alt almost pop rock bands.

L-R: Stephanie Leger (bass, backup vocals), Dylan Gunnell (guitar, lead vocals), Evan McCluskey (drums, backup vocals)

NeoNera mixes progressive percussion with dynamic, driving bass and manic grunge guitar riffs, NeoNera is a three-piece alternative rock band from Ottawa, Canada. The band’s vocals blend frantic whispers, pounding highs, soulful lows with cathartic screams, and lyrics that peel the layers of conceit and corruption from our NEON ERA. An era of social media perfection and celebrity worship that hides scars beneath, fractured relationships, and even the voices in our own heads- all are stripped bare.

NeoNera plays live sets that offer frenzied energy, poor banter, and heavy yet danceable rock music.

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS
1. Guitars, bass, drums, and vocals were tracked by Lee and Caleb from their homes. The guitar tracks were reamped and the track was produced by Henrik Udd in Sweden.
2. Caleb has a really weird writing process and the bulk of the instrumentals for these songs were written in one day, which consisted of 14-18 hours straight of Caleb sitting in front of a computer.
3. The band would likely not have been possible without Kijiji. All of the members in the band were found via a Kijiji ad. Terence and Caleb met after Caleb met a drummer through Kijiji, and asked him who the insanely good vocalist on his tracks was.
4. Lee was originally the Lead Guitarist of the band until Caleb and Terence found out that he could sing clean vocals. This discovery led the band down a new path where Caleb transitioned to the Lead Guitarist role and Lee took over Rhythm Guitar and clean vocals.
5. During the recording of the album, Tom tore his pectoral muscle completely off his bone in a demonstration of pure muscle badassery and had to have surgery. He is currently recovering and will have to incorporate blast beats into his rehabilitation program.

SIONIS is based out of Edmonton, AB, Canada and was formed in 2018. It started as a remote collaboration between lead guitarist Caleb LeBlanc and main vocalist Terence Thiessen (RIOT in Paradise, For Reasons Lost). After the two realized they were on to something interesting, in 2019 they recruited rhythm guitarist and clean vocalist Lee Stanhope, and drummer Tom Wolf (All Else Fails, Original Violence).

On August 21st, 2020, SIONIS will be releasing their debut single ASTHENIA, off their upcoming album EGO, which is mixed and mastered by Henrik Udd (Architects, Bring Me The Horizon). The track also features hard-hitting, technical drum production composed in part by Jon Deiley of Northlane.

“Musically, the song (Dimensional Entrapment) could be thought of as a blending of melodic death and black metal with some pronounced progressive tendencies. It will keep you a bit off-balance, but that’s part of what makes it enthralling to behold, and there’s engaging darkness at its core as well — a darkness that takes different shapes. Slightly discordant notes and thrumming bass tones create an immediate sense of uneasy musing. The unease blossoms into torment through broiling riffage, tumbling percussion, and guttural growls. The slithering, vibrato guitars reach shrieking apexes, but also diminish into menacing, mutated, burbling tones — and surge into rapidly jabbing assaults. The song continues to ebb and flow, eerie and haunting in one moment and absolutely insane in the next, as the guitar flurries reach plateaus of feverish mayhem and the vocals flare into throat-slaughtering shrieks. A mercurial guitar solo is initially enchanting but proves to be crazed as well — and the song ends in one last episode of uneasy reflection.” – No Clean Singing

“It’s heavy, thick and menacing… when it comes to most of the music, it’s hardened and aggressive as any Death Metal should be. Still, with a bit of a unique twist, any fans of the genre will probably find this album to their liking.” 8/10 – Metal Temple

“The follow-up to their 2016 debut EP, The Era of Famine, showcases a heavier approach as the group experiments in a progressive death direction. For those who enjoy bands such as Dark Tranquillity and Dissection, will want to check out Skyless Aeons.” – Metal Insider

“Progressive death with touches of doom and thrash metal, Skyless Aeons look to take their sound to a more majestic stage. Aiming to make a massive splash with a debut that is as enjoyably heavy as it is thought-provoking. 8/10” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Skyless Aeons are accomplished musicians. Drain the Sun is full of complex moments, with some especially sweet bass lines, and the production is strong and hard-hitting, giving the music plenty of depth.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“Skyless Aeons is as piercing as violent. Drain the Sun picks into the most extreme tones, combined to Prog patterns to temperate those waves of raw power.” – Acta Infernalis

“When it comes to Skyless Aeons, atmosphere is everything. Opening cut “Ascension Towards Nothing” builds over nearly 4 minutes before delivering a satisfying change up crunch and delving into the black depths of Death Metal riffage; it’s nearly 5 minutes before any vocals hit; and when they do it’s a slap in the face with a bag of rusty nails, such is the power of Ferreira’s roar. 8/10” – Metal Noise

“Rife with melancholy and rage, Drain the Sun is a fitting anthem for our times, and I can’t wait to hear more.” – Wicked Metal Review

“an interesting mix of textures” – Headshot Music

Around 2014, guitarist Nicholas Luck and drummer Martin Burchill met as a result of an errant bus ride in London, Canada. At this time, Burchill was looking for a stable project after drumming in various rock/punk/metal bands over the last decade or so, and Luck, only 18 at the time, was looking to start a death metal band.

Vocalist Nathan Ferreira and bassist Steve Oliva followed shortly after and with a scathing collective disdain for the larger structures of society and a commitment to constant evolution in sound and ethos the band recorded and released the “Era of Famine” EP in 2016.

The band has already gained a reputation through local shows as one of the more unique and energetic death metal bands in the scene, opening up for artists such as Ashbringer, The Convalescence, Nesseria, and Killitorous – a wide variety of styles, yet somehow, Skyless Aeons shares musical similarities with all of them.

At a live show, one can expect certain synchronicity and chemistry that can only come from years of experience and practice feeding off of each other’s ideas. Couple that with vocalist Ferreira’s on-stage recklessness mixed with unusually sardonic and self-deprecating stage banter, and it’s no surprise that Skyless Aeons are gaining notoriety and drawing more and more people to their local performances as of late.

2020 brings a new album “Drain the Sun”; it takes a different approach, using much heavier and expansive riffing textures and shows refining and maturation of the band’s identity. It can best be described as “; progressive death metal” with some dissonant, doom-influenced leanings.

EPK – Imperishable

Publicist – Jon Asher – asher[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

For fans of Emperor, Angelcorpse, The Legion, Morbid Angel

Facebook.com/Imperishable83 | Instagram.com/imperishable_metal | Imperishable.bandcamp.com

Imperishable is an extreme metal side project created by Brian Kingsland (Nile/Enthean), who writes the majority of the music, plays guitar, and takes up vocal duty, with contributions from bassist Alex Rush (Enthean), and the pummeling drums of Tommy Harrison.

From South Carolina, the band was started as an outlet for Kingsland’s musical ideas that didn’t necessarily fit with his other bands; the predominant influences are the darkness of black metal and the power of death metal; namely, Emperor, Angelcorpse, and Morbid Angel.

The writing process for the band varies between the songs, Kingsland is always writing, tracking ideas with a growing repertoire waiting to be refined. With accommodations for musical personalities and influences, the song takes shape, with Kingsland’s lyrics adding the final touch. Lyrical themes are generally up to listener interpretation, but largely positive, confident and have some real-life application thrown in.

Conceived in late-2019, Imperishable will be releasing a four-track EP “Revelation In Purity” (date to be determined), which is produced and mixed by Kingsland. Mastered by Jamie King. There will likely be more music coming from the band in the future.

STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS ABOUT THE BAND

 1.      Recording of the album was delayed four times due to a severe injury to Chris’ right arm (the deltoid bursa to be exact).  As he performs all instruments on the record, he actually began lining up players to fill in for him as doctors told him he may be endangering his arm’s functionality if he didn’t take an extended break from playing.  Luckily, rest allowed him to recuperate enough to complete the record.  Although, the process was slowed because he was in pain the entire time.  Every recording session began with him taking at least 800 mg of Ibuprofen to make it through.

2.     The 54 person wind ensemble that performs on the album was entirely comprised of students of Chris Hathcock.  By day he has been a director of bands at a high school in NC and now teaches audio engineering, music theory, and music production.  In fact, he was nominated for the Grammy Music Educator of the Year Award in 2017.

3.     Henry, the central character of the story of “The Oubliette,” is based on a relative of Hathcock’s whose name was Cyrus.  The name Henry was chosen as a somewhat more universal name but also because Henry was one of the Alzheimer’s patients featured prominently in the documentary “Alive Inside.”

“First-rate Progressive Metal, technically high-standing and delivered with a very high level of genuine emotion and passion.” – Rock Music Raider, review of “On the Eve of a Goodbye”

“…The fact is On the Eve of a Goodbye is one of the best concept albums of recent memory” – Angry Metal Guy, review of “On the Eve of a Goodbye”

“This record is why I listen to music.” – The Gauntlet, review of “On the Eve of a Goodbye”

“The Reticent is progressive in the truest sense of the term, and remains one of the best-kept secrets in metal…Once again, The Reticent delivers a stirring and unforgettable album that will absolutely appeal to fans of Opeth (especially Damnation and Heritage-era Opeth), Porcupine Tree, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Katatonia and Anathema.” – Hard Rock Haven, review of “Le Temps Detruit Tout”

“The Reticent’s On the Eve of a Goodbye took me by surprise and proceeded to floor me in all its heartbreaking, sophisticated glory” – Teeth of the Divine, review of “On the Eve of a Goodbye”

“I can safely say that this album stands with any classic concept album that people will try and compare it with” – Power of Metal, review of “On the Eve of a Goodbye”

The Reticent is an NC outfit that is, as Hard Rock Haven put it, “progressive in the truest sense of the term.”  Beginning as an atmospheric acoustic side project for mastermind Chris Hathcock while he toured with war-metallers Wehrwolfe, The Reticent has become a fully realized emotional experience rooted in progressive rock and metal.  This was epitomized in the band’s critically acclaimed 2016 release on Heaven & Hell Records, “On The Eve Of A Goodbye” produced by Jamie King (BTBAM, The Contortionist, Scale the Summit). The album was a tragic autobiographical concept record that chronicled the day before, day of, and the day after the suicide of Hathcock’s childhood friend Eve. Critics and fans of the record alike were moved by the compelling narrative and heartrending performances. The Reticent has gone even further in their live performances to create an audiovisual emotional experience unlike any other by utilizing film, story-telling, and the sheer intensity of the music. Such unique and evocative performances have earned The Reticent a reputation throughout the American east coast as a stellar live show, taking in awards for their live performances from magazines like YES! Weekly. This intense live experience was achieved thanks to the incredible talents of The Reticent’s other members: James Nelson (Ozai), Cliff Stankiewicz (Abacab, Interstellar Overdrive), and Mitch Moore (Rites to Sedition, Inferion).

In 2019, Hathcock began preparing The Reticent for a new concept album and an all new stage show.  The forthcoming album (again produced by King), “The Oubliette,” is another stirring autobiographical tale, this time of the tragedy of Alzheimer’s disease.  Fans and critics alike are eager to sink their teeth into another intense emotional outpouring of progressive metal as The Reticent prepares to release new music and strike back out on the road.

Hatchcock adds:

“As with my previous album, I hope that ‘The Oubliette’ will provide listeners with a rich and emotionally challenging audio experience.  This is undoubtedly the most ambitious record The Reticent has attempted to date.  The hope is that listeners will be personally affected by the music on a deep level and that it may draw some attention to a disease that is frighteningly prominent but frequently poorly understood.  There will be moments that are soothing and there will be moments that are overwhelming.  The story I have to tell is not a happy one but it is an important one – and it is often through the pain that we find the most profound reflection and calls to action.”

“The Oubliette” is due out via Heaven & Hell Records on September 25, 2020.

The album as a whole:

“The Oubliette” is a progressive metal concept album focused on Alzheimer’s disease. The album follows the journey of an old man named Henry (based upon a relative of songwriter Chris Hathcock) as he descends through the seven stages of Alzheimer’s.  He doesn’t know where he is or why he’s there.  He doesn’t remember his wife is dead.  He doesn’t recognize his son.  Step by step the disease takes his memories, his ability to speak, his ability to walk, his ability to breathe.  The music of “The Oubliette” traverses styles as divergent as jazz and black metal all within the framework of emotionally driven progressive metal.  With each track sonically independent from its predecessor, the album moves the listener from experience to experience, vague memories to dreams and nightmares all toward its heartbreaking finale.

Track by Track explained:

Stage 1 – His Name Is Henry

●       Stage 1 introduces us to Henry, a kind and warm man who is yet unaware that he’s been left at a nursing home.  He assumes it’s all a mistake but begins to worry at all the unfamiliar faces passing by.  The music starts out with Henry’s hope represented by the dulcet major sonorities yet the successive meter and key changes act as an omen of the tragedy awaiting Henry in this place.  Elements of swing and latin music decorate the progressive soundscape representing Henry’s fun and hopeful mindset.

Stage 2 – The Captive

●       As the track starts, Henry hears the orderly instruct him to return to his room as marching drums cadence him to get moving now!  Now convinced that he is being wrongly imprisoned and believes his wife is being kept from him, Henry begins to oscillate between anger and despair made all the worse by the fact that he still doesn’t understand what’s happening to him.  Decidedly aggressive death metal spearheads the track before Henry’s anger falls into a defeated frustration represented by the pensive midsection.

Stage 3 – The Palliative Breath

●       Henry has brief moments of clarity when he realizes that “holes are deepening in his mind” and he vaguely grasps some of what’s happening to him.  More calm and reflective the music echoes the patience that the doctors urge.  The beautiful thoughtful acoustic opening gives way to powerful progressive rock, calm folk, and driving metal all to the conclusion that Henry’s best is long behind him.

Stage 4 – The Dream

●       Disassociating further from the world around him, Henry retreats into fantasy and dream.  There he is free, there he is reunited with his beloved wife.  The music comes in odd waves as it sets the scene of a blurred dream with soundscapes reminiscent of Pink Floyd or King Crimson.  Ever intensifying the music builds towards a crescendo as at last Henry realizes all he sees is not real and he then falls from the clouds and is plunged into…

Stage 5 – The Nightmare

●       The disease itself becomes an infernal tormentor of Henry.  Believing he is in fact in Hell, Henry hears the mocking screams of the disease telling him it will take everything from him – his mind, his hands, his legs, his eyes, his breath.  The pitiless demons torturing Henry are represented by the frenzied black metal that surges the track forward.  The inclusion of a full wind ensemble appears to announce the grandeur of Hell itself as the track relentlessly assaults Henry reminding him “There is no way out” as the track overwhelms the listener in the horrifyingly chaotic conclusion.

Stage 6 – The Oubliette

●       Starkly contrasted with the Hell in Henry’s mind, is his motionless husk of a body cemented to a hospital bed.  No longer able to communicate in any way, Henry realizes he is in a prison within a prison within a prison.  First, this place – the hospital.  Then, his body – now unable to serve him at all.  Now, his mind – where he is trapped with no memories to comfort him and no way to alleviate his confusion or his suffering.  The doom metal chorus contrasts starkly with the quiet and sullen guitar that etches the thoughts of Henry as he weakly insists he is still awake within this corpse and he desperately wishes to be set free.  His voice shivers and cracks as he begs silently, “please.”

Stage 7 – ________

●       Henry hears a nurse whisper to him to “Sleep, now.”  The words echo through his mind as his body begins to at long last shutdown.  The wind ensemble breathes with him – in then out – before soaring as he feels the bonds of pain slipping away.  The word “Sleep” seems to cascade into eternity as all grows quiet before we are snapped back to his hospital room accompanied only by the sounds of machines alerting us to Henry’s demise.  The flat line runs and runs because as he forgot, so too was he forgotten.  After a while, the rain pours and we hear the admonition of a doctor warning of the epidemic – Henry’s fate coming for millions.  [The subtitle of the track is stylized to represent a flat line]

It’s been about two years since the band’s sophomore release “Terror of the Cybernetic Space Monster” and Sacramento sci-fi power metallers Helion Prime returns with their third effort and the much shorter title “Question Everything” set for release on Monday, October 5th, 2020 via their label Saibot Reigns.  This is Helion Prime’s first album with new vocalist Mary Zimmer, who has also accompanied the band on two separate tours of the United States. It also sees the band’s original singer, Heather Michele, returning in a writing capacity and contributing all lyrics and melodies. Heather Michele also along with other former Helion Prime vocalist Sozos Michael and with John Yelland (Judicator/Dire Peril) add their guest vocals on the full length.

The highly anticipated third record is a concept album, with each song revolving around different figures throughout human history who had the courage to question the status quo of their respective worlds/societies, in some cases even dealing with harsh persecution as a result. Those Helion Prime chose to write about-faced prejudice, mockery, ex-communication, and persecution – yet through it all, they held true to their beliefs and ideas. Time would be their greatest ally as their ideas and identities were eventually validated, oftentimes not until after their passing. They serve as an inspiration for all minds to continue thinking outside the box and staying true to themselves.

Jason speaks on the album itself:

“This album has truly been amazing to work on. The idea behind it is something I’ve been holding on to since around the time I started the band. Aside from writing some of what I consider to be Prime’s best work it was a great experience getting to work with Heather again on an album as she once again contributed her talents for the lyrics.”

“Question Everything” was mixed by Chris Collier and mastered by Brett Caldas-Lima with additional mixing/drum edits/reamping by Alex Nasla of Gear Gods Studio. Guitar/Bass edits by Michael Goodrich and cover art by Marc Whisnant.

“Question Everything” is out worldwide on October 5th, 2020 via Saibot Reigns.

“Canadian death metal executioners Sadistic Embodiment have emerged from their quarantine torture chamber to release their first LP, Blood Spell. After establishing their brutality across three EPs, they’re ready to give the world a global enema on their full-length debut… Sadistic Embodiment will appeal to fans who want both mosh-ready slams and razorblade riffing. ” – Decibel Magazine

“The band’s new album, Blood Spell is full of hooks, riffs, blasts, and blends of old and new school death metal. Plus, Sadistic Embodiment shows you can throw Bryan Newbury (Into Eternity, Untimely Demise) behind the kit in any band and make gold out of the drumming… Early on in the album, one of the first songs to come across is “Gallows Hill”. This song probably features the most riffs of any on the album, but one key part of Sadistic Embodiment is the lyrics. This is a band focused on telling a story with each song moreso than just trying to write the heaviest death metal out there. “- Metal Injection

“Edmonton’s Sadistic Embodiment Channel Their Disdain for the Modern World on ‘Blood Spell'” – Exclaim!

“Canadian metal outfit Sadistic Embodiment are gearing up for their new album, Blood Spell, out September 18th via CDN Records. The follow-up to their three consecutive EP’s Beloved Imprisonment (2019), Blodörn (2018), and Self-Titled (2018) is promised to be a continuation of their ruthless death diversity ranging from similarities of Gojira, Rotting Christ, to Bloodbath and Kataklysm.” – Metal Insider

“The album weaves back and forth between thrash and full-on death metal, with surging hooks aplenty and a good deal of genuine catchiness – especially over the album’s front half – topped by the bark, growls and shrieks of bassist Curtis Vieville and guitarists Wally Fischer and Jason Cullen.” – Metal Rules

“Pure and unadulterated death metal is at hand in the band’s assault, but don’t expect it to dull your senses as it continues. There’s a number of dark melodies that weave their way into the sound and craft some catchy moments that keep it brutal but still quite memorable. Not to mention some heavy grooves (see “Flesh Deposition”) that are definitely going to catch some ears. A rather promising debut for extreme music fans to dig into.” – DeadRhetoric

“By the time “Cerebral Termination” hits, “Blood Spell” isn’t a record you want to reach a conclusion. The tracks get better and better as it plays through from high quality starting point and the ideas and nuances just keep coming. Another one with seriously impressive lead work, it fades out all too soon. 8.5/10″ – Metal Noise

“this is a meaty chunk of Death Metal… The songs are mostly mid-paced and full of pummeling, grooving riffs and unrelenting heaviness, but what helps set this apart from the masses are the startling tremolo sections and some deeply impressive lead work, which contains a keen sense of melody along with a degree of musicality that you don’t often see in the genre… an enjoyable release from a talented band, and fans of more technical Death Metal will want to give it a listen. 3.75/5” – The Metal Crypt

“a very good Metal album that satisfies your inner sadist.” 8/10 – Thorium Mag

“Well, with that name, logo and cover you might think, “They play Death Metal”. Well… Correct. And a very good one. It was a very good surprise while listening to this album.” – Blessed Altar Zine

The sadistic death metal quartet was originally conceived in Edmonton, Alberta. Although all Edmonton born half of the group now resides in Calgary, travelling frequently to join the others in crafting extreme musical works. Each member brings their own distinct flair to the music, live theatrics, and social media content.

Drummer Bryan Newbury (also known from Into Eternity, Untimely Demise) formed the project in the fall of 2017 by inviting Curtis Vieville and Helge Lipphardt to jam simple and catchy death metal. A couple of months later, Jason Cullen joined the group and then Nate Mandrusiak joined shortly thereafter, forming the five-piece that produced their Self-Titled (March 30th, 2018) and Blodørn (September 8th, 2018) EPs. Curtis Vieville left to travel for the summer of 2018, leaving the band to record bass and vocals for the Blodørn release on his behalf.

During the late fall of 2018, the group parted ways with Helge Lipphardt and brought on Curtis’ old bandmate Wally Fischer. Continuing their relentless musical onslaught the group wrote and released the EP Beloved Imprisonment on January 31st, 2019, showcasing their evolved sound. But the work was far from over and after a few gigs, the group began work constructing their first full-length album. During that period the band parted ways with their singer Nate in early 2020, and from thereafter the group became a three-pronged vocal assault team.

Completing their work in the spring of 2020, the milestone album “Blood Spell” was finally realized. As if sensing the impending debut, CDN Records approached the band with a record deal just as the final touches were being completed. And thus Sadistic Embodiment joined the CDN Records family.

Each release from Sadistic Embodiment grows in depth and complexity while maintaining simple and heavy death metal passages. They pride themselves on having catchy choruses intermixed with powerful and epic melodies. The newest material exhibits dark soundscapes with a lot of variation in song type and feel. Listen closely and you will find evil and pain lurking in the mix

“Blood Spell” is due out September 18, 2020 via CDN Records.
