“Channeling a love for Pre-Punk, Post-Punk and Goth-Rock, Cadera’s debut is much more than an attempt to honour the music he loves. It’s an extension of these influences, ripped through some vintage gear with all the care dedication you’d give your firstborn.” – Grid City Magazine

=================================

The album as a whole:
A love letter to the Goth and Industrial rock of the 80s and 90s.

Track by track explained:
1. Miss American Vampire 1970 – Opening number about an actual vampire-themed beauty pageant that took place in 1970. Sets the tone early for the more post-punk aspect of the LP.

2. Everything Goes With Black – Kicks into high gear with a relentless Industrial Rock beat straight from the early ’90s. An ode to our favourite colour and a love letter to Ministry.  The authentic sound of the era was recreated using period-specific samplers and vintage digital guitar effects.  Most of the video was shot across Japan just before the pandemic, as well as at our studio.  The video, much like the album was edited by Dan Cadera.

3. Undo The Damage – A post-punk number that would slide in easily to the playlist at your local goth club.

4. Brief Lives – The album’s most synth-heavy song, channeling heavy Brian Eno & David Bowie influences.  A song about Death, the comic book character by Neil Gaiman.  This album leans heavily on pop culture.

5. Killing Time – A spooky punk twister featuring 1960’s Farfisa keyboards about a board game from the early ’80s that bites children.

6. I Call It Witchcraft – Another goth punk tune, it was the first song on the album to get a promotional music video.  Probably the most accessible song on the album for fans of my more established band Which Witch is Which.

7. Tactical Empathy – A catchy Industrial banger with the crunchiest synths I was able to come up with before they turned to mud.  A song about how much of yourself you are willing to box in to make others happy and if it’s worth it.

8. She’s Weaponized – A song about what I assume happens when you cross your dominatrix.  Ending with a bang of blazing Industrial drums and loud guitars, the only reasonable choice really!

=================================

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS:

1. This album fulfills a lifelong ambition to release an album of Goth and Industrial songs like the ones I grew up on. For years I’d amassed an arsenal of vintage gear that was used on classic albums so when the time came I could give it as authentic of a feel as I could.  Using old samplers like the Ensoniq Mirage or Emu EMAX really connected me to the artists who influenced me.  I use a lot of plugins and enjoy them but there’s nothing quite like the real thing that gives you that feel right out of the box.

2.  The entire album was written, performed, recorded and produced by Dan Cadera.  Part of this was out of necessity,  the studio costs would have been astronomical given how long it took to produce.   This sort of hybrid of sequencing drums and samples mixed with traditional guitar, bass, keys lends doesn’t lend itself to jamming the songs then recording, at least in my experience.  You really have to create in the studio then figure out how you’d perform them with a band later.

3.  It’s not common to have a mix of gothy post-punk and Industrial Rock on one album but, back in the 90’s both scenes were so small they had to crossover to survive.  Both seeped in and I think it makes for an interesting blend of songs that are going to appeal to people who like both and it keeps the album from getting stale because you’re not sure what’s coming next.

4. Another balance is that despite the darker tone of the music, lyrically the album covers mostly lighter subject matter.  Dark, but fun, without being cartoonish?  Is that a thing?  It’s what I was aiming for.   Whether it’s comic books about Death, spooky board games, low-budget horror movies or vampire beauty pageants most of the songs have a fun element to them.   Lyrics were the most challenging aspect of the album, you’ve got a bunch of dark songs but you’re not really a dark dramatic person so what do you do?  As mentioned above I’m not the type to write black lyrics with black ink on black paper in a black room by black candlelight so this is where I landed.  I’m happy with it, I think it represents what I’m about.

Slashdance is a Canadian Goth Rock/Industrial Rock endeavour by singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Dan Cadera.

Slashdance mixes a variety of influences from song to song…. boots firmly planted in early 80’s goth/post-punk on one track then buried in the relentless drum machines and guitar-heavy sounds the defined early 90’s Industrial on the next.

“This album was made with all the love and care I was capable of to write an authentic love letter to the Goth and Industrial Rock of the ’80s and ’90s.   Already this early I’ve had some of the older crowd who were regular goth club-goers from that period tell me how it transported them back to that era so, in a way, I feel like it already accomplished what I set out to do.  I just want to get it out to as many ears as possible and hope it will resonate with even more people.

The album mixes genres more than most, jumping from post-punk to industrial rock, then a synth-heavy track and back again.  I hope that gives it a fun mixtape sort of quality that keeps it exciting for the listener from track to track.  Different genres and different vocals styles all by one person which (hopefully) ties it all together.”

EPK – Escapement – Feed (2021) (single)

Publicist – Jon Asher – asher[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

Release Date: March 11, 2021

“Feed” was the first song that Alex Nasla and Johnny Ray worked on together. It started out as a small project that took many months to complete due to their busy schedules. Johnny sent the original song to Alex, who in turn wrote the keys for it. At that point, Johnny decided to have Alex fly to Florida so they could work together on a video, along with Thomas Crane from Kill Devil Films. It came together organically and ended up being a great success!”

Facebook.com/escapement | Digital Platforms – https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/escapement1/feed

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS

1. Alex is in the band Witherfall that is signed to Century Media.
2. Johnny is in the band 3 Headed Snake signed to Cleopatra Records.  This band debuted at Bloodstock 2019 in the UK, and includes members of Ministry and Devil Driver.
3. Alex runs the YouTube channel Gear Gods along with Trey Xavier.
4. Johnny is a vocal coach at http://stellarvocals.com.
5. Alex is a manager and producer, currently managing the power metal act Helion Prime.
6. Johnny is also in the Tampa-based progressive rock fusion band The Mourning.
7. Alex is a co-owner/co-founder of Spectre Digital along with Glenn Fricker. This is a software that makes world class audio tools for musicians. 8. Alex is also an educator teaching production courses with Pro Mix Academy and on Spectre Digital.

Escapement was born on the high seas when vocalist Johnny Ray (3 Headed Snake) and keyboardist Alex Nasla  (Helion Prime, Witherfall) were attending the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise. Ray was a stagehand during the cruise, and Nasla was covering press for his company Gear Gods. They kept in touch afterward, and during the initial COVID-19 shutdown Ray sent some music he was working on to Alex. They decided to work together and make great music happen.

A few months after the songs were finished they decided to shoot a music video for their planned debut single “Feed.” Nasla flew to Florida where the music video was shot alongside Ray (vocals), Loren Whitaker (drums), Chris Massie (guitar), and Brandon Delpino (bass). It was directed by Thomas Crane of Kill Devil Films.

The name Escapement comes from the movement of a mechanical watch. It symbolizes winding the group’s love of cyberpunk aesthetics and steampunk design together with a purpose of the escapement, which is maintaining balance. This name greatly represents the project aesthetically and spiritually.

Escapement is a force of lyrical/vocal prowess, atmospheric yet technical keyboard work, dark and heavy guitars, and banging drums. This year in 2021 there are plans to release new material including singles, music videos, and the writing of an upcoming debut album. As the world returns closer to normal, fans can expect a band that sounds as great playing live as it does recorded.

Music video credits: Johnny Ray (vocals), Alex Nasla (keyboards), Chris Massie (guitar), Brandon Delpino (bass), Loren Whitaker (drums).

France’s Pathfinders are ready to make first contact with the landing of their debut album “Ares Vallis” via label Music-Records on April 16, 2021.

Just like the NASA space probe “Mars Pathfinder” that their name is originated from, Pathfinders are embarking on an encounter of the metal kind. Entering the “Ares Vallis”, the band is rooted in a primary sound of groove metal, but introduces fans into an astronomical discovery of twelve tracks assembled with progressive, thrashy, djenty and melodic tones.

The band adds:
“We are fascinated with space exploration, especially following recent odysseys to the red planet. We believe it may be the next step in humanity’s evolution of uncovering what this universe holds. This is an album of us telling stories on adventures to and from Mars.”

The band’s lead single “Damned Earth” was released earlier this year, and it immediately crushes everything in its path, leading an assault with speed and breakdowns, along with a tinge of hardcore tendencies mixed with accelerating quantum force.

Fans of bands such as Lamb of God, Periphery, Parkway Drive, and In Flames will be intrigued to enter the undiscovered metal terrain that Pathfinders are offering up.

Pathfinders was formed in 2018 and consist of the Gaucher brothers Jérémy(Bass) and Romain (Guitar) with Jérémy Barthélémy (Drums), Benjamin Daguet (Guitar), and Clément Levy (Vocals).

Fun Fact: The album title  “Ares Vallis” is named after an outflow channel on Mars, which appears to have been carved by fluids, perhaps water.

“Ares Vallis” will be available on all digital platforms via Music-Records on April 16th, 2021.

EPK – Devilz By Definition – The Bitter Remains of Human Consumption (2021)

For fans of Lamb of God, Pantera, Parkway Drive, Kreator, August Burns Red

“This EP represents the world we live in and the changes that are tearing us apart as individuals.  It is also about the unity that music brings into this darkness.” – Devilz By Definition

“the Groove Metal crowd will eat this up ” – Metal Temple

“The self-described groove metal group deliver a brutally heavy but epic sound throuighout their latest release. ‘The Bitter Remains’ is a stirring tune and this energy steps up again in standout track ‘Peace by Piece’. Finishing with a grand climax is ‘Time Is Near’ which showcases a theatrical sound akin to past closing tracks from Lamb of God and Parkway Drive. A short but sweet heavy metal booster!” 4/5″ – RAMzine

“a slice of what Devilz by Definition are about and what they are capable of, the three tracks of ‘The Bitter Remains of Human Consumption’ hit the mark.  We’re given a slab of highly engaging and well-crafted groove metal that will appeal to a wide cross-section of metal fans.  It’s a glimpse of what more is to come from these guys and will certainly generate some excitement for future releases.” – Uber Rock

“‘The Bitter Remains of Human Consumption’ ” it’s worth to check out ‘The Bitter Remains of Human Consumption’. Groove meets riffs meets heaviness, that’s the world of Devilz By Definition. 8/10″ – Markus’ Heavy Music Blog

“This is the sound of a band on fire and in one hell of a groove. Rolling drums, energetic guitars and vocals delivered in a deep growl, is sometimes all you need. Especially when they are put together in such a fine package as this track is. A hard hitting track (Peace By Piece) both lyrically and musically.” – Backseat Mafia

“Devilz By Definition creates the kind of heavy powerhouse that fans of the style will love in a heartbeat. This is highly recommended metal – don’t miss it.” – Real Gone Rocks

“Their brutal and rather modern style of Thrash and Groove is a delicacy for the moshers and the headbangers.” – MangoWave

“All these songs are full of emotion and anger, but I also hear a lot of hope. Despite singing about “the bitter remains of human consumption”, these Devilz by Definition clearly believe that a change can be made, if we stand up and fight. They believe that music can unite us under the DBD flag and that their army can win the day. So maybe this EP is more about optimism and hope rather than bitterness and defeat. Maybe this is about a better tomorrow.” – Belgian Metal Shredder

“They pulled in the most crowd response of any group who performed that night, encouraging moshing and headbanging from those assembled. The band members themselves were all over the stage, hair flying and scowls shooting from every direction. Devilz also introduced the audience to a new track entitled “Trainwreck“, which opens with a very well-performed imitation of a locomotive picking up speed before getting into some surprisingly funky riffs and ultimately flowing into the expected heavy metal sound.” – Metal Nation (Live Review 2018)

“Devilz By Definition have certainly made a name for themselves in the local scene. They are known for fast paced, tight, super energetic shows, this group of hardcore thrashers make a party out of every performance.” – Windsorite

“These guys seemingly came out of nowhere last year and have mercilessly released their aggression on the metal masses of Windsor like a war between thunder gods with M60′s. They’ve come a long way and have kept a loyalty to a lot of the other bands that came up with them, playing a lot of same bills to help raise awareness for a lot of up and coming bands and giving them some great exposure.”  – The Windsor Zene

Initially formed in 2010, Windsor, Canada’s Devilz by Definition is a band reborn many times, in many ways, and has always come back stronger and heavier than the last time. No obstacle has stood in their path to date and none will, these are driven and hard-working musicians with a passion for the live show. Their energy both on and off the stage is unique and captivating.

The formation of the band happened completely by accident. Popz Munro was just learning how to play guitar and jamming with friend Timguy when they decided to add more friends to the gang. After a couple of months, they were offered a show and they fell in love with performing live music. Since then they have shared the stage with bands such as The Faceless, Revocation, Cryptopsy, and Beyond Creation and appeared at several regional festivals.

With a constant revolving door of members and instrumental position changes, the band has changed drastically over the last decade. From punk/thrash in the early years to more of a refined metalcore/groove sound in recent releases.

Since their inception, Devilz by Definition have released two EPs, “Blood Drawn” (2010), and “Rape of a Czar” (2014); a full length “The Devilution” (2016) and have another EP “The Bitter Remains of Human Consumption” expected in 2021.

=========================

The EP as a whole:
“This EP represents the world we live in and the changes that are tearing us apart as individuals. It is also about the unity that music brings into this darkness.”

Track by Track explained:
1. Bitter Remains – The song is about the powers that be in control of a dying breed on the edge of extinction
2. Peace by Piece – The pieces of ourselves that sometimes get lost along the way and the effort at putting them back together Peace by Piece. In essence, life is a puzzle and we are all the pieces.
3. Time Is Near – Time is near represents the awareness of the phrase “life is short” and puts the listener in a place of urgency on the aspect of the timeline of life itself.

“‘Kingsbane’ Voted #17 Best of 2017” – Metal Rules

“a stunning demonstration of metal majesty. I love theme oriented records because of the presence of narrative that directly shapes the tone and direction of the work… Without any doubts I can tell you that everyone in this band poured every bit of their heart and soul into this album.” – The Gauntlet (2017 Kingsbane album review)

“Prepare to enter the sonic equivalent of Valhalla, where glory is won with axes in hand; axes bearing six strings that pour forth thundering metal into the moody skies of some long forgotten time.  ” – Beatroute (2017 Kingsbane album review)

“Everything about this band is top quality and one of the most proficient, mature, classy and yet still exciting new bands in this field.” – Metal Rules (Foundations 2020)

“Get close, get warm and listen to the tales told of Canada by Osyron. 8/10” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life (Foundations 2020)

“a very solid entry into one of my favorite genres and I think it will fit right in many people’s playlists – and, more importantly, I think the playlist would be lacking without it. This one is worth picking up. I don’t think you will regret it at all.” – Uber Rock (Foundations 2020)

“From acoustic to symphonic, each song has plenty of twists and turns with potent vocals and compelling arrangements that showcase Osyron’s instrumental prowess.” – Heavy Music Headquarters (Foundations 2020)

“Foundations is an impressive, very likeable album that will no doubt strongly appeal to a diverse range of metalheads, from fans of European power metal, to prog metallers, to fans of more modern metal. Given the strong quality of this EP, I very much look forward to their next full-length album, which could really establish Osyron as a new, fresh force in the international metal scene.” – Metal Observer (Foundations 2020)

“Foundations puts the band front and center for another Canadian breakthrough to a worldwide audience. Osyron succeed in creating a musically catchy effort that also contains some interesting twists and killer interplay when necessary – and should be a band to keep tabs on.” – Dead Rhetoric (Foundations 2020)

“There is something deeply passionate about “Foundations”, and I am impressed by what these skilled Canadians have spawned. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Osyron, and regardless of whether you dig Symphony X or Pain of Salvation, I suggest that you check this 29-minute gem out.” – Eternal Terror (Foundations 2020)

“Seriously, it had been a long time since I had been blown away by a progressive metal release and this one does not disappoint. The production is on point and every song has its place on this EP to demonstrate what these guys are capable of. If you are looking for something different and fresh in a genre that has been known to stagnate, give this EP a nice long listen.” – Metal Temple (Foundations 2020)

“Foundations is genuinely unlike anything I’ve heard before and it’s had me going back for multiple listens precisely for this reason. The musicianship and songwriting are of high quality, but it’s the production that really sells it.” – Moshville (Foundations 2020)

“Osyron has definitely grown since I first got the chance to hear their music. They have matured in just about all factors that influence their music in any way: Skill, composition, production, anything you can think of. There really is no weakness to be found, they have delivered an awesome album with versatility and power as its greatest selling points.” – Dutch Metal Maniac (Foundations 2020)

Osyron is a symphonic metal band based in Calgary, Alberta. The group consists of vocalist Reed Alton, guitarists Krzysztof Stalmach and Bobby Harley, bassist Tyler Corbett, and drummer Cody Anstey. Bridging the gap between traditional European metal and the music of their homegrown contemporaries, Osyron has a sound all their own.

The band’s origins can be traced back to Ontario, where they began under the name Morbid Theory. After releasing two demos (Chaos Breed in 2006 and Harbinger in 2010), the band underwent some changes in membership, scenery, and identity. Moving to Alberta in 2012, the group, now rechristened Osyron, re-recorded Harbinger in Calgary, and released the album in 2013.

After releasing their sophomore album, Kingsbane, in the fall of 2017, the momentum that followed was swift. Kingsbane caught the attention of the European metal community – proving a favourite of audiences, critics, and radio programmers.

In 2018, Osyron released a metal cover of the Canadian national anthem, which picked up speed across the country. This patriotic theme was continued into their third release, Foundations (2020). Stemming from a perspective of Canadian identity and culture, both past and present, Foundations challenged the global perspective of the great white north by retelling historical moments in an immersive and melodic manner. Speaking on topics of Canada’s colonization to the mistreatment and recognition of Aboriginal heroes to the country’s participation in global warfare.

Now in 2021, with great reception from new fans for “Foundations”, Osyron has decided to re-introduce the past to the present with the re-release of their 2017 album “Kingsbane” in a Deluxe Edition on May 14th.

The Deluxe Edition of “Kingsbane” will feature all original tracks from the 2017 record re-mixed and re-mastered (which featured former drummer Trevor Cobb). There will also be three re-written and re-arranged bonus tracks for Viper Queen, Griefmaker, and Razor’s Wind (Acoustic) with current drummer Cody Anstey. The original recordings of the bonus tracks were written by guitarists Krzysztof Stalmach and Bobby Harley, but for the Deluxe Edition were collaborated by the whole band. The Deluxe Edition of “Kingsbane” was also entirely re-mixed by bassist Tyler Corbett and re-mastered by drummer Cody Anstey.

Osyron has performed alongside numerous major acts such as Norther, Protest The Hero, Into Eternity, Threat Signal, and The Agonist. Their next goal is to take their sound across the Atlantic to put on a true Canadian spectacle across the European lands.

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS:

1. Out of the five members of Osyron, four of them have diverse backgrounds in the technical aspects of music production from record engineering, to production and mixing, to graphic design and website design. Much of our ‘behind the scenes’ activities are handled completely in-house. Almost all of our music is recorded by Tyler Corbett and Cody Anstey, who each have a foothold in the local audio engineering community. Krzyzstof Stalmach writes and composes symphonic music scores from his home studio, and handles all of our backing instrumentation on the records and at our live shows. Bobby Harley handles almost all of our web presence, building and maintaining the official website and social media.

2. Osyron had a great opportunity in 2017 to open up for Western Canadian heavy metal giants Into Eternity in Edmonton, AB. It was our first time performing outside of our home city with a completely new lineup. Not knowing what to expect, and with only a small draw of die-hard fans, friends and a few family members, we had no idea what was in store that night. There was a line up out the door, and the venue was over capacity so they had to turn away people at the door (including some friends and family of the band). With adrenaline coursing through our veins, and a full energized crowd, we played a quick 30-minute set to mosh pits, heavy headbangers and new fans. The experience was a foreshadow of what the new lineup was capable of with not only our new music, but the chemistry that was being forged on stage that night.

3. Guitarists Bobby and Krzysztof have played games like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft with members from In Flames. Because of this relationship, they’ve also been able to hang out with them backstage multiple times, as well as the opportunity to meet members from other bands such as Behemoth, Machine Head, As I Lay Dying, and Killswitch Engage.

4. We produced and uploaded our own metal version of O Canada on YouTube in 2018, and have received word that the song has been played in multiple schools throughout the country, been used on Canadian podcasts, etc.

Album Title: Bloodtide Rising
Release Date: February 12, 2021

“In Xael, we are trying to not only create some brutal and primal metal but cultivate the fusion of storytelling and epic adventures. We are building a multiverse with diverse planets and odd-powerful creatures, taking listeners on a journey.” In regards to the theme of Bloodtide Rising, this specific album follows the ‘watchers’ as we are assimilated into the vile and mysterious world of Vuul Athmar. It is a tragic love story turned horror. Musically, we incorporate tribal elements, Asian and traditional folk instruments, and an array of vocals to capture the variety of emotions. Though there was a global pandemic, we worked hard to bring this musical odyssey alive and we are excited to finally share it.” – XAEL

“From the strong foundation the group built on The Last Arbiter, Xael has done an incredible job of both expanding and refining the eclectic sound they began with into something grander on Bloodtide Rising. The album’s music falls somewhere within a symphonic/progressive take on tech-death, without skimping on speed and brutality at the same time. Of all the tracks on their new album, I’d say “Bloodtide Rising” does a superb job at showcasing the many layers and styles that are a part of Xael’s sound. The visuals for the video are also pretty great and the guest guitar solo from Augury guitarist Matthieu Marcotte is just icing on the cake.” – Metal Injection

“If you’re new to the group, Xael includes among their ranks Nile bassist/vocalist Brad Parrish, Rapheumets Well members vocalist/drummer/multi-instrumentalist Joshua Ward and guitarist/backing vocalist Daniel Presnell, along with primary vocalist/cello player Joshua Niemeyer and guitarist/vocalist/percussionist Chris Hathcock. That’s a fuckload of talent and also a lot of killer musicians capable of playing multiple roles in order to create some damn cool music with a ton of depth and variety to it. This is precisely what Xael achieved on their killer 2018 debut album, The Last Arbiter.” – Metal Injection

“Although we are only in the second month of 2021 I feel safe in saying this is easily going to be a top 10 album of the year. It is simply that strong. Absolutely captivating, interesting and fun.” – CGCM Podcast

“It’s an album with a lot of ebbs and flows, leading the listener down many musical paths that make for a compelling listen.” – Heavy Music HQ

“The palette ranges from highly melodic sounds to brutal sinister outbreaks… XAEL have created a colossal cinematic epic with “Bloodtide Rising”, a dark symphony that tells the story of the album with an immensely intense atmosphere… It has become a powerful album. The sound of XAEL captivates with its originality in the way of composition and style. XAEL tell story in their own unique way. A masterful achievement.” – Metal-Heads.de

The band’s current line-up consists of Joshua Niemeyer, Daniel Presnell, Chris Hathcock (The Reticent), Brad Parris (Nile), and Joshua “Nassaru” Ward (Rapheumets Well). Xael combines elements of extreme metal with orchestrations and folk music to create soundscapes of the imagination.

Xael’s music focuses on the endeavors of its members in a science fantasy epic. From the wastelands of war-torn planets to the pits where the fallen gods dwell, Xael paints an odd and fantastic sci-fi world both musically and visually.

Discography:
2021 – Bloodtide Rising (Pavement Entertainment)
2018- The Last Arbiter (Test Your Metal Records)

Bloodtide Rising Concept:

Imprisoned by the counsel of Tymeer, led by the insidious entity Sen, Darmak “ cursed with a degrading immortality” and the Watchers of Xan were presented as an offering to the Sovereign Ruler and rare species collector, Atara Avuniir in exchange for military and economic support. Finding Favor with the Queen, the Watchers were integrated into her elite guard where they became renowned for their success.

Unforeseen, the Queen fell in love with Darkmak and she would bear to him a son. Vuul Athmar along with the outer planets of the Eiasian-Rim prospered yet the queen harbors a dark secret, an anomaly that threatens the outer-worlds.

Touring history:

Though Xael is a new project, the members are no stranger to touring. Brad Parris, being the frontman and bass player for Nile embarks on yearly international tours. Along with Joshua Ward (who is the drum tech for George Kollias of Nile), they have toured most of Europe, Australia, India, South America, Russia, and Japan. Other members being from bands such as Rapheumets Well and The Reticent are all versed in national and international touring.

EPK – Dyatlove – The Chrysalis (single) (2021)

Creative BC ‘Artist Development’ Grant Recipient 2021

Publicist – Jon Asher – asher[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“The Chrysalis was written near the end of 2019 so we have been sitting on it for a while. We decided to record it and put it out to keep things moving during the dreaded 2020 experience. There was the need to keep productive and have something to work towards as everything was shut down here in BC. The song speaks of evolving as a person, the personal growth we all hope to achieve. Sam is really proud of these lyrics and as a band, we are proud of how this song came together. We were able to work with our longtime friend Royce Whittaker on this song and he really helped us out with the little nuances. It was amazing to have him join us for this track, along with another of our friends Scott Whalen who added some devastating vocals!” – Dyatlove

“Their sound is eclectic and diverse, at times morose and at other, heavy sludge. An EP that requires attention to take in, each song takes the listener on a ride with complex lyrical content aiming to grab attention.” – Frontview Magazine

“The band’s music isn’t the kind of extreme metal we usually cover at this site, but I’d say they’re “adjacent” — and there’s an explosive emotional fury in the song and video we’re presenting today that’s so cathartic (and so demolishing) that it’s more than welcome here.” – No Clean Singing.

“DYATLOVE conveys emotion and brings the heavy with an impressive, eclectic EP” – IDIOTEQ

“The track (Empty Lungs) is amazing and the band will quickly make you a fan if you like groups like Converge, Deafheaven, or Spotlights.” – Ghost Cult Magazine

“they’ve got one behemoth set of four savage cuts on this record that warrant a major repeating, and a lineup of tunes that command & demand your full attention.  This whole experience met every hope & expectation I could have had, then smashed & surpassed them all – Dyatlove’s EP didn’t let me down for a solitary second – you need this record on your playlists this year.” – Sleeping Bag Studios

“Their sound is eclectic and diverse, at times morose and others bone crunchingly heavy. ” – The Sludgelord

“This is a collection of songs about love of family, songs about loss, songs about anger and songs about struggles and addictions all wrapped up in the confines of half an hour’s worth of music…” – Metal Noise

“Here is Dyatlove — post-metal / post-rock / sludge band from Vancouver, Canada, and their fresh song called “Empty Lungs”. It’s uncompromisingly heavy music. From the very beginning to the very end of the track it feels like I am in the engine compartment of the old locomotive. Guitars, drums, bass, and vocal creates incredible tension and pressure. I just can’t resist it, and it takes me to its dark world.” – Faeton Music

“for those who love  Deafheaven, Converge, Russian Circles, Touche Amore, Alcest, Pallbearer… A beautiful discovery.” – Mad-Breizh

“Empty Lungs really evacuates the air in the liver. Again sludge, doom again, heavy and laid-back job. I like it a lot.” – Metal Perver

====================

About

Dyatlove is a passionate foray into the realm of morose singer-songwriter overtones set alongside heavy music. Longtime friends Sam Caviglia (guitar/vocals) and Rikki Jennings-Buford (guitar) bonded over bands such as Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey, and Pinback.

This array of influences drives the diversity of Vancouver, Canada’s Dyatlove. From sad songs to crushing sludge metal to 2-minute hardcore songs, Dyatlove conveys emotion and brings the heavy with drop A tuning to overall giving themselves the self-described sound of emo-sludge.

Starting individually, the band works on riffs and ideas, eventually bringing them together to be fleshed out further. As full believers of limitless creativity, they don’t tie themselves to classic song structures. The lyrics come from many places, some are stories, some are personal experiences. There are songs about love of family, songs about loss, songs about anger and songs about struggles and addictions. Although varied in subject matter they all have one thing in common, feeling.

Performing with the same intense passion and emotion that they bring to the jam space, Dyatlove intends to really connect to their fans, and show what their songs mean to them. With Rob Sheldrick (drums) and Justin Lacey (bass), the quartet delivers with an infectious openness and energy. Their self-titled, debut EP was released on May 29, 2020 with the cassette version released by Coup Sur Coup Records that featured an exclusive bonus track ‘Die! Kill! Pig!’.

Fast forward to present 2021, Dyatlove will return with the follow-up single “The Chrysalis” featuring guest vocals from Scott Whalen (Imonolith / Ugly Men / Latenite Automatic) The track is a taster of what’s to come from the band as they hit the studio once again with producer Matt Roach at Rain City Recorders to work on their sophomore EP and continue to mature and evolve the Dyatlove sound of Emo-Sludge.

“The first thing that drew me to this release was the stunning artwork, and I’m glad it did because Hadopelagic is a rather kickass listen. It’s rather difficult to slot Sanguine Glacialis into one specific style because they utilise a good amount of approaches and genres into their music, such as death metal and symphonic metal, as well as more unusual styles such as classical and jazz. They have a very interesting sound as a result and it definitely helps them to stand out from the crowd – indeed, the jazzier moments are some of my favourite elements of the album!” – Soundscape Magazine

“Sanguine Glacialis threw me a bit of a curve ball as I was expecting a similar showing stylistically, primarily because I could hear the singer warming up her falsetto backstage. To my delight, the group launched into a more groove filled progressive black metal vibe that was thoroughly entertaining. Singer Maude Théberge navigated her tiny frame through the cramped stage to play the role of both soprano and banshee while providing intermittent piano sections.  The band’s performance, energy, and crowd interaction won the crowd and me over, and I’m excited to hear their new album in the fall.” – Bucketlist Music Reviews

“Hadopelagic offers a little over one hour of amazing metal music that takes full advantage of the manifold vocal talents of Maude Théberge. She has so many different voices that you will feel in awe. Her piano sound could do with a little more variation though. Her band is top-notch and we can only hope that they will stay with her. The guitars are adding progressive textures, whereas the drummer gives the music that necessary punch that shows you that despite being in the presence of an artful piece of work, Sanguine Glacialis are still a through and through metal band. Hadopelagic is a must-have for fans of playful metal that offers brains and brawn alike.” – Disagreement.net

Without darkness there can be no light, Sanguine Glacialis have stared into the very blackest pit, and, inspired by what they saw there, forged sonic masterpieces of the darkest beauty, it is not surprising their name means ‘frozen blood’ in Latin!

Hailing from Montreal, Quebec, Sanguine Glacialis have shared the stage with Dark Tranquility, Omnium Gatherum, Delain, Hammerfall, Unexpect, Necronomicon and many more. The band experiments with multiple musical styles, such as jazz, classical, folkloric music, Latin music, etc. while keeping a very strong melodic death metal accent.

The dark heart of Sanguine Glacialis is vocalist/keyboardist Maude Théberge, the sole original member left in the band. She describes their sound as ‘unique, original, intense and dark’

Théberge is enthusiastic about their latest full-length.

“We took a huge step forward with this album and fans will appreciate it much more than the previous one. Everything is better in this one in my opinion. We want to show the new direction of the band. We want to show how much we’ve grown and how much the band has changed between the two albums. This album is a very dark part of my life, and it’s something that everybody lives in their own way, and I hope this album will help fans go through their own difficulties.”

Lyrically, Théberge avoids the usual metal clichés. “Most of the songs are personal experiences that I wrote in the form of stories and legends.”

Maude promises that Sanguine Glacialis offers a very different live experience from previous lineups.

“What really makes this band special is the vast variety of influences we have. It goes from technical death metal to classical, through nu-metal, rock, jazz, pop, rap, world music, and so much more. On stage, we bring our own theatrical style as well as a dark atmosphere that fits our songs. We have our own dynamic, and I play keyboards and sing at the same time during the show, which is also a change from the typical front-woman!”

Sanguine Glacialis latest album “Hadopelagic” was self-released on April 6, 2018 and distributed by Propagande and is available on all digital platforms.

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS:

1. Once during the tour before our show there was a local band and its vocalist literally got drunk as hell. Surprisingly it was one of the best vocalists singing/screaming live I’ve ever heard so he was totally fine with this condition and also was very friendly with us.

2. While touring and driving from one place to another kilometers away from the big city at night we met a deer ready to run right before our car. Luckily something has stopped him from doing this. We were so happy when both the deer and us were ok.

3. Evgenii “Gene” had thyroid cancer in 2016 and shortly after the surgery and treatment he started recording tracks and performing. First, we thought it’s going to be much harder to do that but then realized it has helped him to get better too.

4. It’s funny how people from other countries sometimes look suspicious hearing it’s a Russian band coming to town to perform but normally right after 1-2 songs people who didn’t hear us before relax and understand we’re not going to drink litres of vodka and play balalaikas.

5. We rarely use amplifiers for playing live and it’s amazing to see some people getting shocked about how we’re going to play without them.

Next Door To Heaven was formed in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 2014. The band was founded by Gene Mazunov and Dasha Mazunova. Next Door To Heaven plays progressive/alternative metal/metalcore. The band’s debut album “Let’s Dream” was released in 2016. The album made the top-20 on Google Play. That same year, the band became one of the finalists in the Emergenza International festival. Their sophomore album “V Ways To Accept” was released in June 2019 via Sliptrick Records. The band has opened for bands such as RED and Tesseract and continues to support their material with tours across Europe.

Now in 2021, the band will independently release their new EP “Inside” on March 25th, which features guest vocals from Lord Nelson (ex-Stuck Mojo).

“This new song (Dead To Me) is a short, sharp kick to the head — and it does kick like a furious mule, albeit a massive and mechanized one. The music is fast and ferocious, loaded with pulse-rifle riffs and hammering drums, blaring chords and squirming arpeggios, booming bass and a mix of serrated-edge growls and incendiary screams. The music is heavy-grooved, with a bit of a start-stop quality that hints at industrial influences to go along with the death/thrashing momentum, and also effectively creates an atmosphere of menace and mayhem. It may bring memories of Lamb of God to mind as well as Fear Factory.” – No Clean Singing (2020 Review – Civilization’s Coma)

“This EP contains lyrics that people from all walks of life can relate to and shines a much-needed light on each individual’s importance in the grand scheme. Given the year we have had collectively, this is one new age metal album that the world needed. If you’re looking for a futuristic metal EP with a deeper meaning, “Civilization’s Coma” is a must listen.” 10.10 – Metal Temple (2020 Review – Civilization’s Coma)

“The hammer blow that is “Dead to Me” was the first single, front loaded with schizophrenic riffs and jack hammer footwork Synastry have wasted no time in delivering something that is straight to the point with vicious intent. There is even time for blast beats and some Godflesh inspired industrial noises that frame and enhance segments. Aniston has the power to manipulate his voice to create a number of different voices with the use of pitching and on the ripper that is “Narcomancy“, he sounds like he’s going slowly insane.” – Metal Noise (2020 Review – Civilization’s Coma)

“James Aniston’s throat abrasions are raucous and psychopathic at the same time, boiling with anger and imperious might. The double-kick triplets of Kay Kessler’s drum patterns follow the syncopated guitar chugs in perfect time. Everything clicks into place like a torture machine from a Hellraiser film” – Scream Blast Repeat (2020 Review – Civilization’s Coma)

“Synastry deliver their brand of classic death metal with an industrial twist. The result is a Thrashy head-long experiment into the brutal and somewhat futuristic. Musically tight and heavy with mean riffs, Synastry try to head into a new direction for Metal.” – Sea of Tranquility (2020 Review – Civilization’s Coma)

“Montreal-based metal maulers Synastry play a brutal yet groovy style of death metal with fringes of industrial that recall bands such as Fear Factory and Killing Joke with the savagery of acts like Kataklysm.” – Gears of Rock (2020 Review – Civilization’s Coma)

=====================================

The EP as a whole: A fast-paced groove fest that will hook you from the first note and make you bang your head throughout

Track by Track:
1. Dividing The Double Helix
The title track is all about how I (James Aniston) have always been curious about what I am and how I have become what and who I am. There are so many reasons why we become what we are, and we can never know what they all truly are.

2. Cryolife
The second track is about programming yourself thru auto-suggestion and the emptiness that comes with the accomplishment of your goals. The never-ending grind of working to meet your goals without reflection on who you are as a person is a dangerous game that you can lose yourself in.

3. Assembly Line Asylum
The final track is about the process of creation and replication, and how everyone can make different versions of themselves in order to better deal with a given situation.

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS

1. Guitars, drums, and bass were tracked with JF Dagenais. Vocals were tracked by Christian Donaldson. Samples were done with Kevin Jardine. The mixing was all done by JF Dagenais and the mastering was done by Jef Fortin. We chose the cream of the crop when we recorded and got this amazing result.

2. The lyrical concept for this EP and the rest of the EPs we are planning on releasing are written from the viewpoint of the individual’s view of themselves in relation to society. The hope that the individual can take the responsibility to be ‘better’ for the whole while not compromising their own wants, needs, and beliefs. Inspiration is drawn from James’ life and things he has seen his friends and family live through.

3. The lyrics for these songs and all other SYNASTRY songs to be released all find themselves in a kind of disjointed tapestry that follows an ever-growing story.

It takes courage for a band to integrate such distinct thrash, death, and industrial influences into a catchy yet multilayered approach as do Montreal’s Synastry.

Each metal listener desires something different and thus a band exists for every taste. Inspired to a certain point by melodic, futuristic death thrash, Synastry binds to these influences a threatening mid-paced groove, atmospheric textures, and the unmistakable gruff and mature vocals of James Aniston. Flanked by guitarist Paul Iverson and bassist Gary Vee, and backed up by the thunderous Kay Kessler, Synastry is a crushing wall of well thought out and meticulously written metal. Lyrics come from Aniston’s impression of the world and his experiences in it which are layered with the collaborative music that all band members contribute to.

Started originally in the early 00s, the Montreal band took the underground scene by storm, they climbed the Myspace ranks, toured the regions, and released “Pallets Of My New World” (2006) (EP) and Blind Eyes Bleed (2008) (LP). In 2012, the band went dormant, where they remained until 2020 and awakened the world with the rumbling sounds of their resurrection in the form of EP “Civilization’s Coma”. Its mission amidst the widespread uncertainty of Covid times was to sweep the globe and to explore humanity, the singularity, and its morality.

Just like a rising phoenix, Synastry continues to burn its flames by kicking off 2021 with another EP.

Entitled “Dividing The Double Helix”, the EP is three tracks best described as a fast-paced groove fest that will once again hook fans from the first note and make you bang your head throughout. It’s simply heavy groovy brutality!

“We hope to give fans more of what they are used to from us, without rehashing old ideas. Thematically these 3 songs are similar to Civilization’s Coma EP, but the delivery is different. The lyrics from these three new tracks are very personal to me. It comes from my impression of how I feel I fit in the modern world, and how I see myself.” says vocalist James Aniston.

“Dividing The Double Helix” is due out March 26, 2021.
