Canada’s Deformatory Unleash Guitar Playthrough “Within The Astral Abscess”

Playthrough Premiere via GearGods

New Album “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” Out Now!

Canadian death metal duo Deformatory, helmed by Charlie Leduc (Guitars & Vocals) and Neil Grandy (Drums) recently unleashed their third full-length, “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon”. This newest death metal offering contains 9 relentlessly brutal tracks wrapped in a beautifully complex concept, designed to overwhelm & entice the senses.

Today, in support of the record, guitarist Charlie Leduc is giving a behind-the-scenes look at his guitar prowess with a new playthrough for the album’s opening track “Within The Astral Abscess” via its premiere on GearGods HERE.

Leduc’s adds about the track:

“Within The Astral Abscess is such a fun and relentless song to play. It’s got a little bit of everything tossed into it, mostly because it was written in a single-take jam session. There’s just no stopping the energy that comes through when smashing these riffs out. The unorthodox song structure and variations in the vibe throughout the track makes it a perfect warm-up song and one hell of an album opener.”

Deformatory has been a maelstrom of devastation since 2010, assaulting all in their wake with relentless sonic brutality.

Rising from the depths of Ottawa, Canada, Deformatory has been delivering their crushing brand of extreme metal to live, screaming, and sweaty audiences across the provinces of Ontario & Quebec as a headlining band along with being a supporting act for Cryptopsy, Obscura, Napalm Death, Archspire, Beyond Creation, Fuck The Facts, Gorod and more.

With over a decade of crafting a maniacal and unconventional approach to extreme metal, they have garnered the devotion of fans worldwide since their debut EP “A Prelude Of…” in 2011, which has been followed by two full-length albums “In The Wake of Pestilence” (Independent, 2013) and “Malediction” (CDN Records, 2016). Through CDN Records, they have also released a cover of Deicide’s infamous song “Once Upon The Cross” and a split album with Blood of Christ entitled “Bilateral Carnage” both in 2018.

Now in 2021, they bring forth a new hellstorm with their third full-length entitled “Inversion of The Unseen Horizon”, which will be their first as a duo featuring Charlie Leduc (Guitars & Vocals) and Neil Grandy (Drums).

The nine-track album is an assault for the masses that reaches all corners of the extreme metal spectrum from straight-up death to old-school black metal, all to encourage a maniacal frenzy, which even includes a guest appearance from Jon Levasseur (ex-Cryptopsy, None So Vile-era), a very admired guitar player in the genre and influence for the band.

Recommended for fans of Hate Eternal, Cryptopsy, and Morbid Angel, “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” was released on September 3rd and can be enjoyed on CD, Vinyl, Cassette and digital download at http://deformatory.bandcamp.com

“A maniacal riff-fest colliding with pulverizing drumming and grotesquely executed vocals, Impaled Upon The Carrionspire is a memorable journey into a modern death metal portal of chaos. This is beyond a brutal wall of sound; it’s an experience that hooks you in, and guides you through everything you can expect to hear on the new album.” – Metal Injection

“Let’s cut to the chase: Imagine filling a syringe with unadulterated adrenaline, sticking it straight into your carotid artery, and jamming the plunger down with as much force as you can muster. That’s the effect of listening to Deformatory’s “Beyond the Abhorrence“. Driven by the mad weaponry of drummer Neil Grandy‘s almost relentless double-kick barrage and the rabid monstrosity of Charlie Leduc‘s cavernous bellowing, the song is a non-stop attack of mind-mutilating, pulse-pumping savagery. Leduc unleashes a plethora of macabre riffs and mutated leads, creating a multitude of frightening yet electrifying sensations, none of which are connected to a sane mind.” – No Clean Singing

“”Summoning the Cosmic Devourer,” being almost seven minutes long and just jam-packed with insanity, feels like it devoured other, lesser songs to become a terrifying megalith of riff after riff after riff. Dashing from one tempo to another with no warning, the song’s askew progressions illustrate sneering triumph and cosmic indifference with punishingly clear double-bass work to keep the tempo firmly in the mortal plane. This vile ceremony of riffs is intense and immediate enough to warrant constant attention, but it also seems to ooze with discordant mystery—each jarring and jagged chord hints at a terror outside our understanding. ” – Invisible Oranges

“those seeking the most brutal and battery ram-like extremity, Deformatory checks off all of the boxes that you’d like it to: strong musicianship and soloing, intense riffs and vocals, and just enough melody to keep it from going completely unhinged.” – Dead Rhetoric

“Inversion Of The Unseen Horizon consolidates Deformatory’s position as one of the finest acts in the Canadian metal scene.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

0 Canada’s Deformatory Release New Video For “Deciphering The Archetype” Off “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 15, 2021

Canada’s Deformatory Release New Video For “Deciphering The Archetype” Off “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon”

Deformatory originally started in 2009, but over time new members joined the ranks, and the original idea and songwriting evolved into what it is today helmed by Charlie Leduc (Guitars & Vocals) and Neil Grandy (Drums). This was the fertile soil to create a blend of death metal that was atypical and so it has continued to be. The new album, the band’s third full-length, “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” explores the origins of an alien race The Ce’naxors.

This concept album is nine, blistering, brutal tracks that continue where Deformatory’s 2016 album “Malediction” left off. The band explains the album and the single “Deciphering The Archetype” in their own words:

“The album tells us of how the Ce’naxors began and the ominous landscape of their home planet, Cyru’xil, revealing their Arkitekt’s grand scheme for multiversal decimation and atomical Consumption. The Unseen Horizon is their planet, their beings and their plan. The Inversion intimates it coming into view, from an otherwise hidden perspective. Through the single, witness the first glimpses of Xuul ‘Ka as it breaches the atmosphere, causing a whirlwind of meteorological events. Through the portal, the clouds dissipate, and Cyru’xil comes into view, along with the Grand Arkitekt, and the Cenaxors.”

Fans that are itching for more after this full-length won’t have too long to wait. Deformatory says they are already four songs deep into the new album, so listeners can expect more brutality sooner than they would hope for.

The lyric video for “Deciphering The Archetype” can be viewed and heard on SlamWorldWide – https://youtu.be/lY0qvjL7Hkc

Deformatory is a death metal band from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Forming in 2010, they set out to create an extreme sound, fusing together classic influences (Cryptopsy, Morbid Angel, Suffocation, etc.) and their love for modern tech death. Deformatory independently released their full-length debut, “In The Wake of Pestilence”, in December of 2013. This pummeling 9-track debut has been exceptionally well-received by fans worldwide, and has been cited as being an “outstanding and monstrous debut album. Essential.” (Frank Rini – AllAboutTheRock, ex: Internal Bleeding), and “flawless in every way” (TheBloodShed).

Having shared the stage with bands like Cryptopsy, Napalm Death, Obscura, Beyond Creation, Gorod, Archspire, and Fuck The Facts, Deformatory is more than comfortable delivering their crushing brand of extreme metal to live, screaming, and sweaty audiences.

The band’s sophomore release, “Malediction”, was released worldwide via CDN Records in 2016, with additional singles “Once Upon the Cross” (Deicide cover), and “Myiasis” both in 2018. 0 Decibel Mag Now Streaming Deformatory’s “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 9, 2021

Decibel Mag Now Streaming Deformatory’s “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon”

Ottawa’s Deformatory has a new album and it is now streaming in full over on Decibel Magazine HERE.

“Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” is the fifth release from Deformatory, adding to previous works, ”A Prelude Of…” (2011); “In The Wake of Pestilence” (2013); “Malediction” (2016); and “Bilateral Carnage” (Split with Blood of Christ, 2018).

The concept album follows the story of a malevolent interdimensional entities that seek to enslave and consume all light from the universe. Lyrically and musically, Deformatory has gone to great lengths to ensure a brutal, captivating and cohesive work of art. The band shares their take on the overall experience they are trying to convey:

“For us, the artwork and concept of the album were just as important as the music and songwriting. Our hope is that every audio and visual release that is connected to this album helps the listener dive deeper into the totality of our creation.”

Deformatory shares their hopes for the album’s reception:

“We hope it gets received the way we receive it when playing it. We have tons of fun jamming the songs and it automatically causes our heads to bang. It’s a heavy and jam-packed album that has a little bit of everything wrapped in brutal death metal packaging. Our hope is that fans of all extreme metal spectrums will find at least one thing in it to enjoy.”

Deformatory has a high level of chemistry when it comes to writing, on this album, there are some songs that were written in just an hour or two because we were in the pocket and everything flowed the way it should. According to the band, they don’t put a lot of thought into the writing, nor do they concern themselves with the theory behind it. If it sounds good to them and makes them want to demolish the room, then it’s a keeper.

Recommended for fans of Hate Eternal, Cryptopsy, and Morbid Angel, “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” can be enjoyed on

Montreal, QC – August 16, 2021

Deformatory Unleash Brutal Drum Experience w/ Playthrough “Behold, The Apex of Decay”

Playthrough Premiere via TheCirclePit

New Album “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” Out September 3, 2021

Ottawa’s Deformatory will be unleashing their latest concept album “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” on September 3rd. Mixed and mastered by Topon Das (Fuck the Facts) from Apartment 2 Recording along with the artwork done by Paul Gerrard (a movie concept designer known for his imagery on Wrath of the Titans, Hellraiser: Origins and Hellboy), the full length is a continuation of the narrative from their previous album “Malediction” (2016) and depicts an interdimensional horde seeking to consume the essence of planetary life, which is broken up into three chapters.

Over the last few months, the band has shared four singles and videos (streaming below), and today they showcase their first drum playthrough for their crushing track “Behold, The Apex of Decay”, which can be viewed via TheCirclePit‘s YouTube channel – https://youtu.be/WvuH7CI5DZ0

Drummer Neil Grandy explains the playthrough in further detail:

“‘Behold, the Apex of Decay’ was an obvious choice for a drum play performance video due to being one of the first tracks we wrote for the album and being wicked fun to play.

It features a wide variety of different styles and techniques throughout the song. Aside from starting off with a smack to the face, the track features both traditional and gravity blasts, along with several tempos, great double kick runs, and a very progressive solo selection.

We wanted to have an equally stunning location to film this drum experience. Filled with incredible architecture and presence, the Dominion-Chalmers United Church in Ottawa, Ontario totally fit the bill. What a crazy vibe it was to hear these blasts reverberate throughout the church!

The video showcases a wide selection of shots to convey the different playing styles and techniques used on the track, while featuring the unique location to deliver devastating brutally in a house of worship.

For the video, the exact drum kit used to record Inversion of the Unseen Horizon at Apartment Two Studios and features:
Crush drums, Remo heads, Sabian Cymbals, Axis Percussion pedals, London Drumstick Co sticks, Roland Electronics.”

Together since 2010, the duo of drummer Neil Grandy and vocalist/guitarist Charlie Leduc easily create a maniacal strain of death metal. “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” is the third full-length album for Deformatory, following the 2011 EP “A Prelude Of…”; the 2013 full-length “In The Wake of Pestilence” and the 2016 full-length “Malediction”.

This massively complex and intriguing album is just the tip of the iceberg for the brutal Ottawa duo. Best suited for fans of extreme death metal and old-school black metal, Deformatory is recommended listening for those who enjoy Origin, Hate Eternal, and Cryptopsy.

The album “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” will be released on September 3, 2021.

Deformatory Continue Their Harrowing Tale of Interdimensional Decimation With “Summoning The Cosmic Devourer”

Music Video Premiere via InvisibleOranges

New Album “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” Out September 3, 2021

Ottawa’s Deformatory delivers another slab from their concept album depicting an interdimensional horde seeking to consume the essence of planetary life. This narrative dives deeper into the scenery that was originally created in their previous album, “Malediction” (2016). “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” is broken up into three chapters and the band explains how their next single “Summoning The Cosmic Devourer” fits in:

“This chapter (II. Incursion: The Prototypal Eschaton) is written from the perspective of the Grand Arkitekt as he executes his compulsion for interdimensional domination. Witness his journey through Xuul ‘Ka, the cosmic portal he conjures to tunnel into dimensions, and the vision he has of the coming apocalypse for the Earth star. The single “Summoning The Cosmic Devourer” explores the dark art of creating Xuul ‘Ka. All life stars possess the ingredients required for the Conjuring and the path to Summoning.”

Together since 2010, the duo of drummer Neil Grandy and vocalist/guitarist Charlie Leduc easily create this maniacal strain of death metal while jamming together at their rehearsal space. Some songs were written in a single jam session with very few revisions taking place. The result is a raw and unfettered journey into carefully crafted death metal chaos.
The complexity of the lyrical concept together with the unrelenting brutality of the music makes for one hell of a sonic ride – one that you don’t want to miss out on.

Best suited for fans of extreme death metal and old-school black metal, Deformatory is recommended listening for those who enjoy Origin, Hate Eternal, and Cryptopsy.

The frantic music video for “Summoning The Cosmic Devourer” can be watched via its premiere on Invisible Oranges HERE.

The album “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” will be released on September 3, 2021.

Since then, DEFORMATORY has been developing their 3rd full-length album entitled “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon”, which they plan to unveil in the Fall of 2021 as an independent release.

Deformatory Continues To Entrap Listeners With Single “Impaled Upon The Carrionspire” ft. Jon Levasseur (ex-Cryptopsy)

Music Video Premiere via MetalInjection

New Album “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” Out September 3, 2021

Rising from the depths of the capital of Canada, Ottawa’s Deformatory has played countless shows across Ontario and Quebec as a headlining act to be reckoned with. Known for being tight and brutal, Deformatory now exists as a duo and they are releasing a new album this year, “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon”.

With this album, and the previous (“Malediction”), Deformatory has been exploring an inter-dimensional civilization that has a unilateral mission to consume all light throughout the cosmos. Their latest single “Impaled Upon The Carrionspire” features Jon Levasseur (ex-Cryptopsy) and details the frenzy and mayhem as these cosmic devourers descend upon a life-star, as the band shares:

“The horde is unleashed, devouring all forms of life. The display is macabre, and the Cenaxors feed off the fear and energy of a slow, painful death. This describes the scene through the eyes of one who is hiding in the rubble, hoping not to be found…”

The chaotic barrage that Deformatory brings forth comes from a very organic writing process. There are no click tracks or Guitar Pro files here, just jamming and improvisation until something clicks.

The high contrast, striking video work is recommended for fans of Origin, Hate Eternal, and Cryptopsy.

The music video for “Impaled Upon The Carrionspire” (ft. Jon Levasseur (ex-Cryptopsy)) can be viewed via its premiere on MetalInjection HERE.

The album “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” will be released on September 3, 2021.

Canada’s Deformatory Unveil Music Video For “Beyond The Abhorrence” Off “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon”

Music Video Premiere via NoCleanSinging

New Album “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” Out September 3, 2021

Ottawa’s brutal duo Deformatory has crafted a maniacal and unconventional approach to extreme metal that has garnered the devotion of fans worldwide ever since their debut EP “A Prelude Of…” in 2011.

This year, they are releasing their third album “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon”, with a sci-fi concept that picks up where 2016’s “Malediction” left off. Over time, as members joined and left the band, their sound has been reworked and redefined. Deformatory explains further:

“Initially, there were so many different ideas and flavours trying to get crammed into Deformatory that it never felt locked in. It’s safe to say that the new songs, especially for this album, are the closest Deformatory have ever been to truly sounding like itself.”

When asked what fans can expect from Deformatory, they reply:

“No frills. No bullshit. Just straight-up death metal. The goal is to leave people wondering what the hell just happened. A maniacal frenzy.”

The lyrics for this album are partly inspired by “The Scarlet Gospels” by Clive Barker’s and guitarist and vocalist Charlie Leduc’s own interpretation and expansion of the Hellraiser mythos. This is the foundation block that helped to propel the entire concept, which was uniquely crafted and independently developed.  The single and final track on the record, “Beyond The Abhorrence” starts to draw a conclusion to the predicament of an evil race of inter-dimensional light devourers find themselves in.

A sonically relentless death metal experience, Deformatory is recommended for fans of Morbid Angel, Origin, and Hate Eternal.

The music video for “Beyond The Abhorrence”, which was created by Riivata Visuals (who did the recent “Disruptor” music video for Fear Factory) can be viewed via NoCleanSinging HERE.

The album “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” will be released on September 3, 2021.

Ottawa’s Deformatory Announce Sonically Relentless Death Metal Experience With “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon”

Single Premiere “In The Embervoid Where Dead Stars Reign” via Bravewords

New Album “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” Out September 3, 2021

Deformatory has been a maelstrom of devastation since 2010, assaulting all in their wake with relentless sonic brutality. This year they are adding to their punishing catalogue with their third album “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon”, which was mixed and mastered by Topon Das (Fuck the Facts) from Apartment 2 Recording along with the artwork done by Paul Gerrard, who is a movie concept designer known for his imagery on Wrath of the Titans, Hellraiser: Origins and Hellboy.

In anticipation of what is sure to be one of the heaviest tech death albums of the year, Deformatory are luring listeners in with the first single “In The Embervoid Where Dead Stars Reign”, which can be heard via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

This is the third full-length album for Deformatory, following the 2011 EP “A Prelude Of…”; the 2013 full-length “In The Wake of Pestilence” and the 2016 full-length “Malediction”. The nine-track album is divided into three chapters, of which “In The Embervoid Where Dead Stars Reign” is the third song in the second chapter.

Deformatory explains the album’s concept and how the single fits in:

“In our previous album “Malediction”, we explored the truth about Lucifer, who was an angel possessed by a far greater evil entity named Savael. We dove into his awakening and consequences for mankind. Our newest album reveals that Savael was but a mere droid in a complex hierarchy of vile entities, known as The Ce’naxors from a planet called Cyru’xil, whose Grand Arkitekt has an insatiable thirst for destroying life stars.

The single is about the aftermath of planetary consumption and its effect on the multiverse. How death and destruction breed new forms of life, including some unintended consequences for Cyru’xil.”

This massively complex and intriguing album is just the tip of the iceberg for the brutal Ottawa duo. Fans of Cryptopsy, Morbid Angel, and Origin should take note.

The album “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” will be released on September 3, 2021.

Extreme Gear Reviews (Deformatory’s Gear Review Channel) – YouTube | Facebook.com/extremegearreviews | Instagram.com/extremegearreviews

“Deformatory’s third album is their best. Inversion of the Unseen Horizon is an album that should have pride of place in any technical death metal fan’s collection. Enough said. Go listen to Deformatory.” – Wonderbox Metal

“Where Deformatory do stand out, is undoubtedly through the string section. Throughout Inversion Of The Unseen Horizon, there are constantly moments of sheer brilliance on the guitar and bass. Great riffs, but more over, intricate and obscure riff-work.” – Modern Free Press

“a precious album and you can enjoy it, completely.. drums are marvelous and vocalist is on top.” – Brutalism

“The album could entertain the devoted fan of contemporary brutal or tech-death, while keeping in mind that this is not jazz/abrupt metal, just fast, growling, and headbanging.” -Metall Bulletin

“Every track is  relentless, a rabid assault weighed down by a growling vocal delivery that meshes seamlessly with the voracious myriad  tempo changes, shifting from complex Morbid Angel like structures to punishing Suffocation barbarity and I can’t think of too many bands that have done this as successfully as Deformatory.” – Death Rattle Podcast

“Inversion of the Unseen Horizon is one of the most enjoyable and insane pieces of modern death metal that we have come across this year. Simple yet complex; brutal yet catchy; crisp yet raw; this is a trve brew of madness that can only be rightly served from the Trve North itself. DEFORMATORY  – the Canadian death metal duo from hell – have created one hell of a brutal, frenzied experience that you do not want to miss out on.” – 10/10 – Trve North Reviews

“check out Inversion Of The Unseen Horizon to fulfill your brutal death itch” – Metal Utopia

“Inversion of The Unseen Horizon is an album that sets an honorary place to rage, blackness and bestial howlings that overcome a devilishly effective rhythmic.” – Acta Infernalis

“[DEFORMATORY is] a band that takes both the “tech” and the “death” parts to heart in their songwriting.  Their blend of crushing brutality and technical aptitude is a force to be reckoned with.” – Toilet Ov Hell

“Deformatory, perhaps more than any other band out there right now understand the sublime darkness of the genre and have been able to create some truly punishing music as a result of it. They are just taking every traditional aspect of good death metal and doing it better than everyone else.” – Two Guys Metal Reviews

“The dark and dissonant dimension to their sound really gives [Deformatory] a uniquely creepy and foreboding atmosphere. It feels like a massive pummeling that immediately overwhelms the senses.” – Metal Injection

“[Deformatory] is something of a hybrid, uniting the traumatic impact of brutal death metal and the blazing speed and instrumental flash of technical death metal.” – No Clean Singing

“[Deformatory] remain a savage Technical Death Metal beast, with a great combination of brutality and complexity being showcased”  – Wonderbox Metal

The nine-track album is an assault for the masses that reaches all corners of the extreme metal spectrum from straight-up death to old-school black metal, all to encourage a maniacal frenzy, which even includes a guest appearance from Jon Levasseur (ex-Cryptopsy), a very admired guitar player and influence for the band.

The lyrical and fictional story concepts behind the new record were in part inspired by Clive Barker’s book “The Scarlet Gospels” and guitarist/vocalist Charlie Leduc’s own interpretation & expansion of the Hellraiser mythos. It’s also a continuation of the story from the band’s 2016 release “Malediction”, where the band dived into the origin of the Prince of Darkness, Lucifer, who was an Angel possessed by Savael, a truly maleficent entity that consumed Lucifer’s corpse and became the embodiment of who we call Satan. Savael, however, was not an anomaly, nor was he a single omnipotent being, working on his own volition.

In fact, he was but a mere droid in a complex hierarchy of vile entities, known as The Ce’naxors. They are crafted and programmed to infiltrate distant planets and societies, to infect their purity with darkness, and ensure their carefully orchestrated annihilation is carried out. Savael was dispatched from their planet, which lies in the Fifth Dimension, called Cyru’xil in order to fulfill their cosmic design for Earth.

Explored in three chapters, (Chapter I – INCEPTION: THE CYRU’XILEAN NEXUS, Chapter II – INCURSION: THE PROTOTYPAL ESCHATON, Chapter III – INVERSION: THE HORIZONTAL REFLECTION, the album “Inversion of The Unseen Horizon” explores the origins of The Ce’naxors and the ominous landscape of their home planet, Cyru’xil, revealing their Arkitekt’s grand scheme for multiversal decimation and atomical consumption.

The Unseen Horizon is their planet, their beings and their plan.
The Inversion intimates it coming into view, from an otherwise hidden perspective.

Deformatory’s third full-length “Inversion of The Unseen Horizon” is due out independently on September 3, 2021.
