Toronto Doom Duo ITUS Shares Lyric Video “Primordial” via TheObelisk

Unleashing their debut EP “Primordial” this past March, a first of two that will culminate into a full-length album, Toronto doom duo ITUS is sharing with fans the lyric video for the release’s title track.

“‘Primordial’ comes off very abrasively after the calm opening like the listener is watching the creature being revealed in a horror movie.” adds the band.

The lyric video can be viewed via its premiere on TheObelisk HERE.

Formed by Brandon Lucking (guitars) and Reinier Vandenbosch (vocals), who at the time, were in another band with a different style but looking to try something new. ITUS is the result of these Ontario boys blending doom and stoner rock with crushing heavy metal passages, in a psychedelic atmosphere of horror influenced sounds.

The writing process is fairly simple for ITUS, Lucking writes the melodies as they come to him, and Vandenbosch writes the vocals and lyrics. The foundation of the lyrics always starts from personal experience, traumas, and how events in life unfold, which are further imbued with influence from science fiction and horror fiction, mythology, dark philosophy, and political angst.

The soundscape of horrors that ITUS paints is enthralling already as a two-piece online project, and there are plans on the horizon to build it into a full-on touring 3 piece band delivering an energetic and abrasive live experience with a heavy, brooding ambiance.

Their debut EP “Primordial” focuses around aggressive, dark and primal concepts and embrace the death metal roots of the duo. They explain further:

“We think that this EP will manage to ensnare those who are into heavier music, as well as attract other listeners who may not be so into death metal and related genres. The clean vocals and bright lead guitars really lighten up the darker, heavier passages of the songs. Reinier’s aggressive, chortling screams and yelling portrays an unhinged, brooding darkness, sure to keep listeners on the edge of their seats.”

Fans of Electric Wizard, Sleep, and Left Behind are sure to enjoy the doomy, stoner and psychedelic rock rumbles of ITUS and their debut “Primordial”.

The EP is available on Bandcamp and Spotify.

“Blending their love of doom, stoner rock and its attendant psychedelia, Ontario trio Itus have created a colossal debut in Primordial.” 9/10 – Exclaim!

“Love doom and sludge metal, but find yourself frustrated that those bands that would monolithically crush the listener fail to pay nearly as much attention to injecting some measure of melody into their music? Ontario duo ITUS may be the cure to what ails ya. Starting with downcast sludgy stoner doom, the pair of guitarist Brandon Lucking and vocalist Reiner Vandenbosch also aren’t shy about making use of psychedelic rock and good ol’ fashioned heavy metal to get their point across. Think of it like Graves at Sea and Conan discovering the magic power of Tony Iommi’s fake fingertips and the blinding quality of a vintage Hawkwind live show.” – Decibel Magazine

“Primordial is a great release as it treats you to five unique tracks. Never once do you hear the same thing as ITUS truly does a great job of keeping you on your toes and guessing as to what you are about to hear next. Through and through this is a well crafted and cohesive effort that you would be unwise to skip over.” – Cadaver Garden

““This Can’t Be” is a change of pace from the record’s ravenous namesake single which came out earlier in the month. It’s a moving window into their world, with clean vocals this time reminiscent of Woods of Ypres and a vibe that fans of Pallbearer should have no trouble at all falling in love with.” – Doomed And Stoned

““The Chaplain” sounds like the languid expansion of the universe; the impassive serenity of planetary movement; the inexorable eroding of rock by wind and water; the absurd “progress” of humanity set against a backdrop of endless time. It’s achingly heavy and crushingly slow, just like epic doom should be… ITUS drive all thought from your mind and leave only doom behind… ” – CVLT Nation

“This EP is shrouded in a dark and eerie atmosphere from the instant you put it on, but despite that very consistent vibe, there is a lot of variation going on in the lyrics and sound. The production on here is immaculate, these riffs are just enormous, they swallow you whole… Just how I like my doom!… Seriously, the riffs alone are worth listening for! Definitely going to be the EP to beat this year.” 8/10  – Noob Heavy

“… an EP that packs a punch and holds its ground that’s for sure… The intensity really shines and each song generates it more and more. You have the rhythmic highs and lows of the genre and all your senses are overwhelmed. It really makes the listener want even more and you kinda feel depressed when it’s all over so you decide to listen to it all over again! This is the type of EP that you just place inside your CD Player or on your MP3 player and just let all that negative vibes leave your body. You just listen to it and forget about everything all around you especially in this world of sickness, chaos and crisis. A modern twist to an overcharged genre!” 8/10 – Metal-Temple

Draemora was formed in November 2019 in the Seattle, USA area by Terry Jenkins (vocals/guitar) after his separation from his previous band Odyssian. Seeing it as an opportunity to take a chance and try something different, he wrote a handful of songs with lyrics and demoed them out at his house. These demos attracted the attention of soon to be bandmate, ex-Jesus Wears Armani drummer Jared Conelie and ex-Odyssian vocalist Taylor Wood.

After fleshing out the demos with their own personal touches on the songs, Jenkins found local guitar player Max Taylor and set out to record the 5 song EP “Awakening”.

The EP is nothing short of heavy, melodic metal infused with honest and heartfelt lyrics; This combination works perfectly with the band’s mission to evoke an intense emotional and spiritual experience that brings out the raw emotions that are suppressed all day in normal day to day lives.

“This EP lyrically is all about battles with drugs and alcohol and the long journey out of that hell.  I feel that it will connect with anyone who has ever had mental problems, family problems, or experienced relationships falling apart. I didn’t want to come across as disingenuous, or contrived and wrote about things that I really went through and put my life and my problems out there for anyone to interact with as they wish. I think this recording is intense and beautiful.  It’s angry and sad and uplifting and I think is a reflection of a human living in modern-day society.” says Jenkins.

With a slight pause in the band’s plans due to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Draemora is already working away on a full-length album to follow and getting ready for when they can pummel crowds live with their heavy melodic brand of progressive death metal.

Their debut EP “Awakening” is due out June 26, 2020 via Ultra Nast Records and will be available on all major digital platforms.

Lutharö Shares Guitar Playthrough For ‘Diamond Back’ Off Newly Released EP “Wings of Agony”

Unleashing their sophomore EP “Wings of Agony” this past March, Hamilton, ON’s Lutharö are sharing with fans their latest guitar playthrough for their track ‘Diamond Back‘. The song itself is about doing whatever it takes to pursue your passion and growing a thicker skin in the process of doing so. Guitarist Victor Bucur explains the shredding of the track in further detail:

“Diamond Back comes in guns a blazing with its crazy high energy and super-fast chuggy riffs! It then breaks into an extremely catchy harmonized chorus soaring above the madness and just when you think you’ve had a second to breathe, you get punched in the face with one menacing breakdown. Following the breakdown is one killer solo section filled with fast sweeps and tapping sections. One thing for sure, this song takes no prisoners!”

Watch the playthrough at the following link HERE.

More innovative and imaginative than their debut EP “Unleash The Beast”, Lutharö stepped out of their comfort zone for “Wings of Agony”. Their catchy riffs, blazing solos, and vocals ranging from vicious growls to cleans are sure to send a chill down your spine, making them a well-rounded powerhouse of a band that brings beauty, aggression, and skill to the genre.

Lutharö is suggested for fans of Arch Enemy, Unleash The Archers, and Amon Amarth.

Lutharö hails from Hamilton, Canada and this group of motivated musicians is bringing a fresh take on heavy metal to listeners around the world.

Meticulously blending a range of sounds from death metal to power metal, Lutharö is quality extreme music for all audiences. They formed in 2013 and with furious passion and drive, quickly established themselves at the forefront of the local metal scene.

Vocalist Krista Shipperbottom takes inspiration from everyday life events to create the powerful lyrics which she then belts out to the energetic guitar work performed by Victor Bucur and John Raposo. The powerful low end comes from bassist Chris Pacey and keeping everything together is Duval Gabraiel on drums. The highly streamlined group works collaboratively on each track to ensure a unique and diverse final product.

Over the years, Lutharö has grown into their distinctive sound, emerging with a heavy and dark formula that gets fans moving. In 2018, they released their debut EP “Unleash The Beast” to great reception and are set to follow it up in 2020 with their sophomore release “Wings of Agony”.Catchy riffs, blazing solos and vocals ranging from vicious growls to cleans that will send a chill down your spine, make Lutharö a well-rounded powerhouse of a band that brings beauty, aggression and skill to the genre.

Their unbridled stage domination has been apparent with live gigs alongside Unleash the Archers, Alestorm, and The Agonist. Even with an already impressive resume, Lutharö is just getting started.

“Wings of Agony” was released March 27, 2020.

“Along comes Canada, showing the world that independent unsigned metal bands can kick just as much ass, if not more, than any act on the Nuclear Blasts or Metal Blades or Roadrunners out there. Now on their third EP since 2015, Ontario’s Lutharö keep going from strength to strength as their sound expands… pick up Wings Of Agony – digitally or physically – and support independent artists who are as good as this. If the sheer impact behind Lutharö can’t convince you that the metal community continues to go from strength to strength, then I do not want to be your friend. 9/10. Fantastic.” – Metal Observer

“Bringing a fresh take on Heavy Metal to listeners around the world, this up-and-coming Canadian band returns with a darker yet still very melodic sound in their brand new (and excellent) EP… Krista and her henchmen are undeniably talented, crazy for metal music and extremely focused on what they do, spreading their wings all over Canada and soon the world with their breathtaking music for our total delight.” – The Headbanging Moose

“Should you feel the need for either power metal or melodic death metal that’s just a little bit different, “Wings of Agony” is definitely for you.” – Skull Fracturing Metal“Epic in its ambition, scope and delivery, it is a powerhouse of a release, combining elements of power metal and thrash with accurate alactrity. With each of the five songs linked by a theme of following your dreams and passions, it has a consistency of approach that permeates every pore of its being. The songs are superbly written and constructed, with plenty of thought put into them, and this is aided by the hugely complementary performances from each of the five band members, and especially the wonderful use of clean and growled vocals… sort of like Lacuna Coil but without the symphonic elements. This is a magnificent slice of powerful heavy metal from a band that deserve every accolade that will undoubtedly come their way when this hits the shelves at the end of the month. Glorious in extremis.” – Uber Rock

0 Demise Of The Crown have put together an outstanding record. The production value is world-class, as are the performances. Life In The City is cohesive, almost conceptual, but not repetitive. The tracks flow together to form a unit, rather than a hodgepodge of stylistic and thematic songs simply collected as an album. Beadman’s vocals are outstanding, with a broad range of notes and textures, including cleans and screams, and lush harmonies. Each of the songs contains Progressive, Melodic, and even Power Metal elements. Iradian’s riffs and leads are impressive and rich, and each member adds to the song, without overplaying or cluttering arrangements.” – Metal Express Radio

“2019 Winners of En Route to Heavy Montreal”

“The dirty, fat Stoner Sludge Metal riff of “Snakecharmer” is one designed to be accompanied by a beer and the gut-wrenching roar of “blow your brains out, blow my brains out” that brings it to it to its unnatural conclusion will no doubt be chanted by audiences across all lands as the band hit the road.” – Metal Noise

“Montreal hardcore rock n rollers Junkowl have released their new single ‘Quarantine Us All’, a slick combination of stoner riffs, hardcore energy, and groove metal. It’s ferocious and relentless from the offset, even when it veers out of hardcore territory and into the sludgier moments. It even has some technical moments, although they certainly borrow heavily from their influences (namely Every Time I Die and Cancer Bats) it is a banger in it’s own right, and given some time to breathe and develop I think this band could bring something monumental to the table.” – Backseat Mafia

““Quarantine Us All” – Montreal’s southern rock infused metallers JUNKOWL drop new venomous track” – Idioteq

“the group combines very heavy stoner riffs with the energy of punk rock and hardcore. A group to discover absolutely.” – Mad Breizh

“stoner-like riffs, a bit of a hardcore sound overall.. cool edge to it too.” – Moshtpit Radio – WORT FM 89.9 (Madison, WI)

“Junkowl’s debut album Making Out With My Death is a powerful first offering from the independent hard rock band.  Its musical arrangements join influences from a variety of bands that make the songs in themselves and from one to the next, powerful just from this aspect.  The record’s lyrical themes are just as heavy as its musical content, as noted.  Its sequencing puts the finishing touch to its presentation.  Each noted item is important in its own way.  All things considered, they make the album a work that bodes well for Junkowl’s future.” – Phil’s Picks

“this Montreal band is a whole other thing. Junkowl deals in a slick combination of stoner riffs, hardcore energy, and groovy bass, which has been called ‘party animal blues’. Which makes their debut album “Making Out With My Death” coming June 5, such a curveball.” – Cashbox Canada

“Another one to look for is the crowd pleaser, “10,000 Vultures,” memorable for so many reasons including its earnest bleakness. Overall this album exceeds my expectations. I liked Junkowl the first time I heard them play, and I am bigger fan now. Recommended.” – Flying Fiddle Sticks

“they’ve made a name for themselves in the ol’ Heavy Metal City™ with their energetic performances. And you know they have what it takes, since they won this year’s En Route Vers Heavy and literally earned their spot to perform. So technically speaking, this is gonna be an award-winning performance!” – Forget The Box (Heavy Montreal 2019 preview)

“I had the pleasure of being a judge at En Route Vers Heavy and these guys were my number one choice. I am so happy they won and got to follow their dream. They fucking destroyed.” – Bucketlist Music Reviews

Quick Facts:
1. In 2019, Junkowl won ‘En Route Vers Heavy Montreal’ a competition between nearly 200 bands. Junkowl won their first-round at Turbo Haus, and then again at the finals at L’astral landing them a spot at Heavy Montreal.

2. 10,000 Vultures was the first song Junkowl ever wrote and it was completed after their first jam together. Almost all the lyrics were freestyle during that jam.

Heavy, sexy, and southern. Those are the best words to describe Montreal’s Junkowl.

Formed in 2017, their unique blend of groove metal, stoner, and hardcore is matched with high energy ‘in your face’ performances. A year earlier Jesse Frechette (vocals) met Dom Labrie (drums) and after a few jams they picked up Marco Larosa (guitar) and Samuel Matte (bass) and the rest is history. The writing process is a collaborative one, with melodies and vocals usually forming on the spot.

Moving through the underground music scene, Junkowl quickly made a name for themselves when they won the 2019 ‘En Route Vers Heavy Montreal’; a competition between nearly 200 bands, landing them a spot at that year’s edition of renowned metal festival Heavy Montreal.

On June 5th, 2020, they  will release their debut album, “Making Out With My Death”, a 10 track record full of sultry and powerful songs about past regrets and self-destructive behaviour. It includes the band’s favourite “10,000 Vultures”, the first song Junkowl ever wrote, which was completed after the first jam together. Almost all the lyrics were freestyle during that jam.

With no sign of slowing down, Junkowl has more tunes in the works and pouring passion into their live performances and newly recorded tunes. Stay tuned for party animal blues; fat spliffs and heavy riffs.
