New Album “Ascendant Blasphemy” Out Feb 26th, 2021

Melded together in the vein of classic black metal, but giving nods to other genres including death, grind and doom, Toronto’s Plague Weaver has been honing their craft delicately since they started out in 2018. Beginning with an excellent atmosphere, and budding riff ideas on the self-titled EP, then taking a big leap in 2020 with “Through The Sulphur Eyes” with a doomy traditional black metal style. Now in 2021, with their first full length “Ascendant Blasphemy”, they have created three leaping bounds between releases, in both the music and the production. The band talks about the album:

“We take influence from a wide spectrum of genres. Black metal is definitely not the limit – we also look to death, grind, doom, and heavy metal, along with a plethora of non-metal genres. The only real common denominator is whether or not we like it! You can hear a huge death/grind influence in JC’s ‘black metal’ vocals, while RM’s riffing style is much more reminiscent of 1st wave black metal, especially Greek bands.”

“Ascendant Blasphemy” contains a lot of musical variety across the album, and still enough consistency to hold everything together, overall it is a pretty cold journey from start to finish. The album’s tracks are quite diverse in terms of tempo, and sonic tone. There are equal parts mid and fast-paced tracks, with a couple of slow, doomy ones near the end, to help bring everything to a close. This album confidently pulls the listener in a few choice directions. With confident composition, the instrumentals lay a framework for powerful, diverse, and seemingly uncontrolled vocals. The riff-driven style is bound to attract some death metal listeners in addition to BM heads looking for something grim to bang their heads to.

Fans can expect some of the novelty of any good black metal show with Plague Weaver. With the exception of the corpse paint, they check most of the boxes for any black metal favourite, with a few added flavours of our own. They are recommended for fans of (old) Samael, Varathron, and Watain.

The entirety of “Ascendant Blasphemy” will be revealed on February 26, 2021, and before it officially drops, Plague Weaver has teamed up with Decibel Magazine for its full stream premiere HERE.

About:

Plague Weaver is a black/doom metal band hailing from Ontario, Canada. The band was birthed in 2018 as a solo project by RM whom released two EPs, 2019’s self-titled debut and 2020’s ‘Through the Sulphur Eyes’. Both releases displayed traditional black metal roots delivered through a modern, doom-inspired atmosphere.

Joined in 2020 with the addition of new vocalist JC taking care of lyrics and vocal arrangments, Plague Weaver started its next chapter as a duo and quickly began work on creating punishing, grim, riff-driven black metal for the next assault entitled ‘Ascendant Blasphemy’. Set for release in 2021, their first full length is an evolution from its predecessors. More aggressive, and riff-driven but without abandoning Plague Weaver’s doom-inspired roots that can be heard on such tracks as ‘In Exitium Caeli’ and ‘..of Quivering Doves’. Overall, there’s a lot of musical variety across the new record, and a consistency to hold everything together, from start to finish. The album’s lyrics are a loose concept written by JC that follows a series of Satanic philosophies or questions considered from a Satanic perspective, illustrated to a loose fictional ideal. This album aims to invigorate and distress the listener.

“Ascendant Blasphemy” is due out February 26, 2021.

“Plague Weaver’s new single, “Nothing Is Sacred”, comes from the band’s upcoming release Ascendant Blasphemy. If there is any better song to help capture the feeling that everyone around the world has had through 2020, this is it. “Nothing Is Sacred” is a slow burn of death-doom, slow, grudging instrumentals entwined with harsh, raw black metal growls.” – Metal Injection

“Musically, the song (Deicidal Usurper) we’re presenting today changes course as if leading us through a cilling ancient labyrinth strewn with bones. After a somber, classically inspired piano overture, the music ignites in a storm of thundering drums, hurtling bass notes, and feverish riffing that creates a conjunction of menace and madness. In the midst of this marauding assault, a hellish choir lifts its harrowing, unhinged voices in a union of blood-curdling screams and voracious roars and howls. There are points at which the music turns corners, slowing in its grim assaults. In the first of those, the bass murmurs and eerie arpeggios ring out as a prelude to a kind of chilling, bone-shaking march. At the next, a serpentine guitar solo slithers from the darkness, creating an occult and hallucinatory vision in which misery dwells. And at the end, a harpsichord instrumental weaves a concluding mysterious spell.” – No Clean Singing

“Ascendant Blasphemy is a solid album for fans of largely mid-paced, compositionally adventurous black metal. It shows a lot of growth and maturity from the previous EPs and is well worth a listen.” – Metal Observer

“Ascendant Blasphemy is an exercise in churning Doom riffs mixed with blasting tremolo picking to establish a thick, sulphurous atmosphere of desolation and dread that’s not too far removed from a mix of Runemagick and Culted if you added in the occasional blast beat… Vocalist JC is also a real find, not only because his growls and snarls are venomous and spiteful, but also because he multitracks himself and writes the vocal lines for each track slightly out of sync with each other, which makes him sound like a chorus of hatred and despair that really stands out as a highlight of the album. If you’re looking for Black/Doom that’s as good as it gets, then start the year off right with this dragging nightmare of a debut.” – The Metal Crypt

“The songs have an epic and atmospheric character and despite its modernity, Ascendant Blasphemy will appeal easily to the orthodox Black metal fans.” – Jupiter Variations

Leading up to the release of their new EP “Dark Water” on March 26th, 2021, Edmonton, Canada’s metalcore squadron Juliet Ruin is sharing their new lyric video for the third single “Fake Stigmata” via its premiere on New Noise Magazine HERE.

Featuring infectious soft-spoken melodic vocals with whiplashing djent riffs, “Fake Stigmata” entices fans to sit back and brace themselves for an anthemic experience that the band is offering up on their forthcoming four-track EP to follow their highly praised 2019 album “Old Stardust, Love, and Chaos”.

The band comments:

“Fake Stigmata is our third and heaviest track from our Dark Water EP, it explores darker lyrical themes and grittier vocals and instrumentals.”

Juliet Ruin‘s new EP “Dark Water” represents a step into a heavier domain for the band as they continue on with low-tuned guitars. The vocals on this record will certainly shock old fans and draw in new fans as frontwoman Jess’s work in the scream vocal area is apparent throughout as she raised the bar on the clean vocals as well with many pop diva-esque techniques.

“The listening experience we are going for is a hard-edged, but catchy experience with lyrics you can shout in anger, but also it leans positive on message.” says the band.

The conception of the new recording was born out of the desire among the members to create a sound with what they consider the true lineup after having a current member miss out on the OSLAC album. Planning originally to just record one single for 2021 became a four-song EP as the ideas were just unceasing to them. This is the freshest possible material from the mind of Juliet Ruin with all songs written within a year. Fans familiar with the band’s sound on previous releases will notice the evolution in a heavier direction.

Juliet Ruin is recommended for anyone who enjoys heavy and melodic metal with powerful vocals, especially those who already have The Agonist, Jinjer, and Killswitch Engage in rotation.

“Dark Water” will be available on March 26, 2021.

“Every band needs to find that element which connects them with a fanbase, and Juliet Ruin has done that early on in their career.” – V13

“Pre-album single “Spite” that features a Sprite logo is also reminiscent of “Cloud Factory” era Jinjer with an excellent vocal range on show. Blending riffs seamlessly with gravity defying leaps between sub-genres from classic Metal to Hard Rock to Metalcore, it’s a nice twist on the conventional approach.” – Metal Noise

“If you are into Halestorm, Jinjer, Killswitch Engage you are gonna fall in love with this group not just a bit. But madly and deeply! Grab a hold of this gem of a release on the 6th of September you aint gonna regret it , cos Juliet Ruin aint gonna “Ruin” ya day they are gonna make it !! ” – The Metal Gods Meltdown

“From hardrock, to metalcore and everythign in between, Juliet Ruin delivers a fun and interesting record with many sounds, attitudes and emotions.” – Heavy New York

“Juliet Ruin’s sound is comparable to a muddier version of Alexisonfire, with Ruin guiding the songs with her powerful voice while being backed up by Geislinger’s harsh screams and growls…. Juliet Ruin has been gaining more recognition after every concert with its single “Rogue Down” receiving a nomination at the Edmonton Music Awards.” – Vue Weekly (2017)

Hailing from Oshawa, Canada, Maitreya is excited to announce their upcoming album “Hyper Reels” slated for a June 2021 release. They have just released the second single “Departed”, which is being premiered on TheProgSpace HERE.

This new album boasts a higher degree of musical complexity, filthy breakdowns and a wider range on the vocals ebbing from melodic cleans into sustained growls set to a whirlwind of complicated riffs. Maitreya comments on the single:

“Departed is the most complex and exploratory song on the record. It showcases an evolving and progressive song structure illustrating our signature bag of tricks; frenetic riffs, operatic layered vocals, crushing breakdowns, and dense textures. Lyrically the song borrows concepts from AI fiction (Westworld, The Matrix and Blade Runner) that explore the nature of consciousness, intelligence, and reincarnation.”

Not for the faint of heart, Maitreya’s music is a heavily layered listening experience, a cacophony of styles, merging together to create an intense wall of sound that forces you to pay attention to all the subliminal notes and tempo changes.

The album as a whole was put under a microscope during its creation, forcing Maitreya to refine every element and mature past their previous releases. It shows vastly improved musicianship that will only continue to grow as the band forges onward in their career.

A barrage of complexity intertwined with melody awaits fans, especially those who have an interest in The Contortionist, Between the Buried and Me, and Protest the Hero.

The full album “Hyper Reels” is out on June 25, 2021.

“We’re always on the hunt for interesting new metal bands, and Canada’s Maitreya certainly qualifies. The band’s newest single, “Catalyst”, treads familiar progressive metal territory – think vocals similar to Leprous and instrumentation akin to older BTBAM – but rest assured it sounds fresh.” – New Fury Media

“Their musical abilities were astounding, and I believe they could have been each individually the most technically capable with their instruments of those performing that night.” – Metal Master Kingdom

“Lead-heavy, yet at the same time musically complex, Maitreya’s music is sonic baptism, taking the listener from the fire pits to the icy peaks. The band’s self-titled album weaves an intricate melodic narrative, where both headbanging metal-heavy riffs and reflective vocal lines co-exist in the vortex of sonic alchemy, presented to the listener in its raw, unfiltered elemental form.” – Dentata Music

IMMORTAL GUARDIAN Unveils Music Video For ‘Phobia’ (feat. Angra guitarist Marcelo Barbosa)

Video Premiere via MetalSucks

Extreme Progressive/Power Metal Group’s Acclaimed New Concept Album ‘Psychosomatic’ Out Now via M-Theory Audio

IMMORTAL GUARDIAN is (L-R):
Gabriel Guardian (Guitars/Keyboards)
Carlos Zema (Vocals)
Joshua Lopez (Bass)
Justin Piedimonte (Drums)

IMMORTAL GUARDIAN has unveiled a music video for “Phobia”, the latest single from their acclaimed new concept album “Psychosomatic”. The clip, a narrative video that ties into the record’s pandemic-inspired theme, can be viewed via its premiere on MetalSucks HERE.

The video for “Phobia”, which features a guest guitar solo by Angra’s Marcelo Barbosa, is the band’s latest examination of the events that changed the world in 2020, which drove the overall creative process and production of “Psychosomatic”.

“As the pandemic first began, one thing that we saw happening to everyone – including ourselves – was an introduction of new phobias,” says keyboardist/guitarist Gabriel Guardian. “I started becoming scared of things that I used to like or not be scared of. Even just the thought of being in a crowd has a whole new meaning and feeling to it. Is it a phobia? Will we have to learn to deal with them, or will they go away when the pandemic is over? This song touches on the topics of these new phobias.”

Notably, the filming of “Phobia” was affected by the very real events of the outside world, as bassist/engineer Joshua Lopez and his wife contracted COVID-19 in January. Lopez recorded his parts for the music video while he was still in quarantine inside his home in the band’s native Texas. Luckily, both Joshua and his wife were able to recover after suffering only mild symptoms. The video also saw drummer Justin Piedimonte contributing from his home in Montreal, Canada, and Gabriel Guardian recording his parts in his new home of Las Vegas alongside vocalist Carlos Zema, who recently relocated from his native Brazil after staying in lockdown for many months.

“Phobia” showcases Zema‘s high-flying vocals and Gabriel Guardian‘s dizzying abilities to play guitar and keyboard simultaneously. Guardian has shown off this unbelievable dexterity on MTV’s “Amazingness,” and his unique dual-instrument covers of classics by the likes of Iron Maiden, Pantera and Guns N’ Roses have garnered hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube.

IMMORTAL GUARDIAN began building their following through multiple self-released EPs before signing with M-Theory Audio for the 2018 release of their first full-length record, “Age of Revolution”. The band has performed live alongside some of the biggest names in metal, including Judas Priest, Dragonforce, Kamelot, Symphony X, Sonata Arctica, Slayer, Metal Church, Soilwork and Steve Vai, and in countries such as Brazil and Russia, and at high-profile events such as ESPN’s X Games, South By Southwest and the Fun Fun Fun Fest. The band supported the release of “Age of Revolution” by touring relentlessly alongside fellow shredders such as Marty Friedman, Powerglove, and Exmortus, winning over new audiences nationwide.

IMMORTAL GUARDIAN gathered in Las Vegas at the beginning of 2020 to record their second album. As the spread of COVID-19 and the subsequent pandemic began to ensue, shutdowns around the world began being enforced, resulting in the band completely scrapping the record that they had been working on and writing and creating a new thematic record about their emotions surrounding current events. The final result was a truly multi-national record, with Gabriel remaining in Las Vegas, Zema recording his vocals from his home in Brazil, Piedimonte drumming from Montreal and Lopez recording from IMMORTAL GUARDIAN‘s native Texas.

“Psychosomatic” is a product of the extraordinary turmoil of 2020 that affected millions of people around the world, as well as the next step in IMMORTAL GUARDIAN’s exhilarating melding of melodic power metal with progressive/shred tendencies. CD and limited-edition purple vinyl editions of “Psychosomatic” are available now at www.smarturl.com/immortalguardian.

“The musicianship is top-tier and the group’s compositional ability is unheard of for a band this young. [Guitarist} Gabriel Guardian is a new American hero.” – Decibel

“Melody and Power, two things displayed in a smashing way throughout this album. If Immortal Guardian isn’t already on your playlist, I think they should be. 10/10 – Metal-Temple.com

“A mega-catchy prog-power anthem (Read Between The Lines) mixed with a blend of crushing performances that’ll leave you salivating for more.” – Metal Injection

“Psychosomatic, an album that will likely be viewed as one of 2021’s best releases, and a landmark record forImmortal Guardian. ” – Metal Nation

““Psychosomatic” is a super catchy (Prog) Power Metal album” – Metalheads Forever Magazine

“With this album (Psychosomatic) Immortal Guardian should no longer be seen as a promising band. Not only have they shown that they have an enormous compositional quality and an elite technical level, they have also shown that they are a band that faces difficulties and that they have all the will to continue. Making a high-quality second album two years after their dazzling debut tells us about the enormous inner power these musicians have.” – Metal Rules

““QUARAN-TAAAAAYN!” No matter what you think about Immortal Guardian, it’s refreshing to hear a band that plays their style while confronting modern life. Though there’s a lot of big, epic, technical stuff going on on Psychosomatic, it never devolves into a lot of bullshit about chivalry and orcs. As such, they feel poised to be the inheritors of Nevermore’s throne, a gritty power metal band who feel relevant even as they soar. Get this in your brain.” – The Pit

Ottawa’s As We Suffer are releasing their debut album “The Fallen Pillars” in April of 2021. So far, the band has shared with fans the first single and title track just this past January. Today they present their next single “Invade The Host” via its premiere on IDIOTEQ HERE.

The band comments:

“This track feels like Propagandhi gone metal. It’s a heavy and briskly paced track with a melodic chorus. It also features one of the best breakdowns on the album that hits right in the feels. Lyrically, it’s about the tendency for societies to take over others through tyranny, then the uprising of the disenfranchised takes over and they themselves become tyrannical. All the while, God is pulling the strings.”

As We Suffer‘s forthcoming album “The Fallen Pillars” is an amalgamation of several heavy subgenres rolled into one. Hovering between metal-infused punk, hardcore, groove metal, and even a little hard rock, listeners go on a journey through each track. The track listing for the album was picked with diversity in mind. Each song stands out in contrast to the last.

The concept album’s theme revolves around the pillars of truth. Each song deals with destructive concepts and beliefs that we, as a society/people, should not prop up as truths. It is a journey of unhealthy and damaging thoughts/emotions that explore existentialism, politics, religious fanaticism, and truth through different styles of heavy music.

Recommended for fans of Machine Head Propagandhi and Death by Stereo, As We Suffer‘s debut album “The Fallen Pillars” is due out April 30, 2021.

Album digital, CD, Vinyl pre-save here.

About:
Ottawa, Canada’s As We Suffer started out as a cover band, but quickly delved into writing original material. In the early days they focused on a more metal-infused skate punk vibe with major influence stemming from Pennywise, Strung Out, and NOFX but it very quickly took on a more metal feel. Since 2020, the sound has further morphed into a more metalcore vibe along the lines of early Killswitch Engage and Bullet for my Valentine, while still maintaining a distinct hardcore style.

Four of the original band members have known each other for a long time, with two of the members, vocalist Matt Caldwell and bassist Ryan Caldwell being cousins; together with their long-time friends drummer Chris Nunn and Jason Yocom. The band officially established in 2018 picking a name that represents unity in the existential suffering we all experience. Eventually, they were joined by guitarist Derik Roblin.

The long time comradery between the members enables them to write music organically, trading off who is the primary songwriter for each track. All lyrics are written by M. Caldwell, who aims to tell a story and deliver a message without being too literal or specific, allowing the audience to interpret on their own. Themes are largely infused with existentialism, civil and political unrest.

This organic flow continues to benefit the band when they play, the passionate stage presence is heightened by M. Caldwell’s intensity, R. Caldwell’s slick bass licks, Roblin’s powerful energy, and Nunn’s technical prowess. They bring a unique back-to-basics flavor to each performance, especially through the dynamic nature of each of the band members.

As We Suffer released a demo in 2018 and will follow it up with “The Fallen Pillars” on April 30, 2021.

Rockshots Records: SIX DEGREES Shares Cover Video “The Power of Love” (Back To The Future Theme Song)

Debut Album “No One Is Innocent” Out Now!

Italian groove metal band SIX DEGREES released their debut album “No One Is Innocent” this past November via Rockshots Records. The album’s closing track is a cover version of one of the band’s favorite movie theme songs “The Power of Love” made famous by Huey Lewis and The News.

Today, the band is sharing a cover video they made for the track, which can be viewed at the following link – https://youtu.be/lOIpHkktoxw

Luca Correnti (guitar and vocals) adds:

“What more could we say about this song? Everyone knows it! There is no person on earth who has not seen “Back to the Future”! It has always been one of my favorite adventure movies. When Marty gets on stage for the audition with his band (Pinheads) and the talent scout says “I’m afraid you’re just too darn loud … next, please!”, I always get angry! I wish I was there to smash the guitar on his head! Ahahahahaha. Well, this is our metal version. Just enjoy! it’s a great song! It really pumps you up!”

SIX DEGREES was created by Luca Correnti (guitar and vocals) and singer Valentina Aleo. The name of the band is clearly inspired by the sociological theory (developed for the first time in 1929 by the Hungarian writer Karinthy) about the so-called “six degrees of separation”.

Their debut album “No One Is Innocent” is a record that brings together all the creative aspects of the band. It’s an aggressive, simple, direct groove-death metal, but filled with melody. All of this gives the compositions a dual-purpose appeal, with a mix of violence and impact but also catchy melodies, thanks to Luca’s scratchy growls and Valentina’s sweet and effective vocals.

The album includes a cover version of “The Power of Love” by Huey Lewis and The News, taken from the legendary trilogy “Back to the Future” OST.

“No One Is Innocent” is now available in Digipak CD, Digital Download and Streaming.

ABOUT:
“Six Degrees” project was born from an idea of Luca Correnti (guitar and vocals) and Valentina Aleo (vocals). The name of the band is clearly inspired by the sociological theory (developed for the first time in 1929 by the Hungarian writer Karinthy) about the so-called “six degrees of separation”.

Luca was born in Sicily but now he lives in Umbria. He was part of the line-up of the cult band “Sinoath” in the album “Research” (guitar), then he has been the lead vocalist in death-thrashers “Mystura” and in the prog-death-metallers” EpisThemE “(“Descending Patterns” their debut album, 2014).

After moving to Umbria (2016), Luca joins the historic death metal band from Terni “S.R.L.”. The group is currently working on the songs that will be part of their new album.

Valentina was born in Spoleto (Perugia). She took her first steps as a lead singer in the alternative metal band “Burn it down”. They recorded the EP “In flames” and performed in live concerts including the Tour Music Fest, Emergenza Festival and the Music Village, in which Valentina had the honor of sharing the stage with Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil).

Luca meets Vale thanks to a musical announcement and a few weeks later they decide to start this artistic partnership. They work hard, helped in studio by the sound engineer Elvys Damiano, until all the songs of the album “No one is Innocent” are ready. Then they choose to call this project “Six Degrees”.

EPK – Vinyl Hero – Sledgehammer (single) (2021)

Sledgehammer is a personal favourite of the band and has been part of their live set for a long time and through that time have really made it their own. “We’re a rock band, a power trio,” says Vinyl Hero’s bassist, Costa Siarlis, “and we wanted to make our version sound like a rock band wrote it, it’s more of a rendition than a cover!” Even as a 3 piece, Vinyl Hero manage to bring enough ambience from the intro to hard-hitting and sing-along choruses to make fans of the original and modern-day rock listeners alike throw some horns in the air!

For fans Queens Of The Stone Age, Stone Temple Pilots, Big Wreck, Shinedown

“Low and slow riffage from a Montreal three-piece that’s been making the rounds for the past five years or so. Good for fans of stoner rock. If Chris Cornell were still with us, he’d get a kick out of these guys. The singer kinda reminds me of former QotSA dude Nick Oliveri (except with his clothes on).” – Alan Cross

Heavy and gutsy rock riffing served alongside palpable and unmistakable lead vocals!

The feeling you get when headbanging to a Vinyl Hero tune is best described as a Symphony of Synchronicity. Three different individuals with one main goal. Ray Howard and Costa Siarlis (founding members) had a couple of years to curate their songs and sound with different members and once drummer Tiburce Perlau was added to the lineup their overall sound hit a level that has become Vinyl Hero’s trademark sound!

No strangers to touring, Montrealer’s Vinyl Hero have been hard at work tilling the soil along the Quebec/Ontario’s 401; headlining venues in Montreal such as Club Soda, and playing important support slots to blues legends like Pat Travers, Stu Hamm, and Alex Skolnick at the towering Le National Theater. The band has been a fan favourite at Mont Tremblant’s Blues Fest and by way of consistent, steady, touring has built a vibrant and reliable following in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Kingston, Kitchener, even as far away as Victoria B.C. along with numerous markets in their native province of Quebec. Vinyl Hero has graced Major Canadian Festival stages including Toronto’s Indie Week (three years running) and Nappanee’s VoodooRockFest. FM Radio spins include CHOM 97.7’s show Montreal ROCKS, and Oshawa’s the Rock 94.9 FM who have been ambassadors for the band in the greater Toronto area. Vinyl Hero was also nominated for Canada’s best independent Rock Video in 2018 by Dropout Entertainment and was named Montreal’s most popular vote for CBC’s Searchlight.

Their 2016 E.P. ‘Seven Days On A Train’ was released to great acclaim “Glam stomping, bratty tear away, excellent musicianship, ragged glory and scarves trailing all over the script” (Steve Swift – PowerPlay magazine UK)(Pure Grain Audio) “They crunch about that gravel path of theirs like there is no tomorrow .” (RockmusicRaider, Newsflash).

In 2020, Vinyl Hero released their single “VULTURES” recorded at Montreal’s #churchofrocknroll recording studio The Freq Shop ran by Dave Traina (The Damn Truth) and multi-instrumentalist Derek Orsi.

With influences drawing from Queens Of the Stone Age, Stone Temple Pilots, as well as fellow Canadians Big Wreck, Vinyl Hero has not placed its cross-hairs on adhering to a particular sound or bandwagon. The Montreal power trio is best described as Deep, Honest, Powerful, and True. Their ethos; to embody in music, humanity, living emotion, and the organic nature characteristic of music during the vinyl era, all while delivering smart arrangements with impactful dynamics and deft akin to power trios such as Nirvana and The Tea Party.

The Design Abstract‘s new album “Technotheism” invokes the futuristic sounds of science fiction, as the band takes a step away from the traditional use of orchestral writing, by making it the soundtrack for anything space or cyberpunk related.

Still, in the experimental age for the band, each song is written completely differently and by different members of the band. “Technotheism” is purely a science fiction story told as such in a monumental thirteen track work of symphonic melodic death metal. It tells a cyberpunk story of a group of rebels fighting to regain control of Earth. It ranges from technical guitar work to atmospheric electronic passages, and just about everything in between. The band explains the album:

“We incorporate a blend of metal, orchestra, and industrial music that hasn’t been done in this way. Nobody can top the orchestral metal masterpieces like Death Cult Armageddon by Dimmu Borgir or Codex Omega by Septicflesh, however, we push this genre into the distant future, with the sounds of a cyberpunk dystopia punctuating every release.

This album is the absolute pinnacle of what the band is currently capable of, which speaks volumes to the fact that most of it was written so long ago. Most metal bands who incorporate orchestral writing do so in a pointedly antiquated way: the goal is to sound a bit archaic. The sound of The Design Abstract is rooted in futuristic science fiction. It’s a classically scored orchestra, but it sounds anything but old fashioned.”

The dramatic, grandiose music is presented in an articulate, but extreme wall of sound suitable for fans of science fiction, and melodic death metal and bands such as Fleshgod Apocalypse, Machina, and Dimmu Borgir.

About:
The Design Abstract is a two-piece sci-fi-themed symphonic melo-death band from Ontario, Canada consisting of Logan Mayhem (guitar, songwriting, synth programming), and Voiicide (bass, vocals, scoring, additional sampling/programming). The band formed with a single goal: to create a blend of industrial-influenced symphonic metal that had never been done before. Since the debut album Emanate in 2017, The Design Abstract has sought to shed the antiquated tendencies of orchestral metal bands, instead pushing far into the future conceptually and lyrically. With each subsequent release (Corrupt in 2019 and Esoteric in 2020), the band pushed further into “melodic death metal” territory, brandishing more comprehensive riffs, technical drum writing, and more guttural vocals, but never lost the industrial-electronic edge or the massive and dramatic orchestral passages. The cumulation of this sound is their latest album Technotheism due out Jan 29, 2021.

A grandiose display of musicality, technicality, and narrative, the sophomore full length is a monumental 13-track work of symphonic melodic death metal that tells a cyberpunk story of a group of rebels fighting to regain control of Earth. It ranges from technical guitar work to atmospheric electronic passages, and just about everything in between. One thing you’ll notice about Technotheism is how it’s structured and how it all flows together. The pattern of the types of tracks, the order, and their function was very carefully planned out in a way that few albums are.

“A symphonic technical death metal masterpiece with an amazing concept to keep you engaged from start to finish \m/” – Heavy New York

“Now for some nerd shit. Technotheism is a concept record about the future that at it’s core is a melodic death metal record, but the band dabbles with electronic elements, technicality, and grand orchestrations throughout. Fans of Last Chance To Reason and really any band Mike Semesky (Ordinance, Raunchy, etc) has been a part of will probably dig this.” – Metal Injection

“This is a grandiose affair, full of musicality, technicality, and narrative. Thirteen tracks of symphonic melodic death metal that tells a cyberpunk story of a group of rebels fighting to regain control of Earth. It ranges from technical guitar work to atmospheric electronic passages, and just about everything in between.” – The Prog Space

“The Canadian The Design Abstract continues exactly where the appetizer “Esoteric”, published last year, caused unimagined enthusiasm. As a result, the duo from Ontario cuts even more clearly into the notch of futuristic sci-fi melodic death metal, which lives largely from orchestral and symphonic density, but which also steers very sophisticated and elegant in the right direction… Rarely do you hear such an exciting album that continues to rotate a unique spindle of ideas between melodic and progressive elements. Death metal meets industrial, songs that are staged in a great symphonic and epic breadth. 9.5/10″ ” – Zephyrs Odem

“The Design Abstract goes for a big symphonic style in extreme metal, with a few twists and surprises along the way. Fans of the dystopian and/or futuristic sounds may find the album especially interesting. The Design Abstract is the symphony that remains after the alien zombies have taken over and this is the music that they want the world to hear to remind everyone that the zombies are horrible beings that enjoy tormenting the population with grandiose cacophony. When can the party begin, right?” – Metal Bulletin Zine

“THE DESIGN ABSTRACT – Technothesim is an eavesdropping beyond one’s own musical nose, which is worth it!” – My Revelations

=====================

Track By Track – The Blood of Christ – Half of Split

Forgotten Divinity Chapter 1 – An old school Blood of Christ song, from 1998 that we resurrected and added some redux life into it.  It has a very chaotic feel to it.  Lyrically, it is about the divinity returning home to his clan after many years of hiatus.

Sworn to the Northern Star – This song really showcases are blackened-death metal side, with a lot of epic riffs.  It is a new song for us, written in 2018 and features a lot of riffs from our drummer Jason Longo.  Historically, he helped write some occasional riffs on the old Blood of Christ albums and that was a part of the sound back then.  We feel that bringing back some of his writing really helped make this song “bring our sound back”.  Lyrically speaking, it is a song that is quite literally about playing in a metal band and devoting yourself to the craft.

Apocalyptic Vertigo – Again a unique song that blends black metal and death metal in an abrupt manner.  Features some really catchy trash riffs too, and a solid down-picking pit riff to end it off, all of which are indicative of Jeff Longo’s guitar style.  Lyrically, this one deals with time travel and loosely takes inspiration from the “Twelve Monkeys” movie.

Forgotten Divinity Chapter 2 – The sequel to chapter 1, is a brand new song (the newest of these four).  It is a morose feeling number, with both epic-doomy riffs and catchy trash riffs… that culminates in one of our most epic dark metal passages.  Lyrically, it is the same as chapter 1, but wraps up the story.

Canadian Epic Dark Metal band The Blood of Christ (aka Blood of Christ) began their career in the early ’90s, making a blackened death metal hybrid that sounded similar to a mashup of Carcass and Enslaved. They kept this style throughout their first two albums, but started to tweak it on their third full-length album, 2003’s “Breeding Chaos”. The Blood of Christ’s brooding, unique and crushing sound has made fans out of underground metal lovers from many genres, creating an appeal that defies genre borders.

On their second release through CDN Records, the London trio has crafted their most focused and creative effort yet with 7 numbers of Epic Dark Metal dexterity and power. Fiends whom were raised on the sheer brutality and boundary-smashing efforts of Morbid Angel, or the pioneering and challenging progressive grind-core of Liverpudlian innovators Carcass, the epic and majestic sounds of Viking artisans Enslaved or even the groove-laden proto-death of Brazilian legends Sepultura will find something rousing and engulfing within The Blood of Christ. All of these influences and components meet head-on and shatter the boundaries of conventional arrangements and ultimately take the listener away to territory similarly explored by none before.

While their influences favored the shocking approach with lyrical themes that were rampant with Gore, Satanism and often-abhorrent imagery, The Blood of Christ chose to focus on more abstract and poetic subject matter. Their songs are often rife with human suffering, lust and longing, time travel, astrology, historic battles and the human struggle for personal freedom. A sincerely dark and often poetic way of not being afraid to expose the innards of human suffering, and relate to the misery from the destructive, self-promotion of humanity with unique vocals that sound as if purveyed by a raging beast – all of which is set to a brutal and epic soundtrack.

The Blood of Christ was formed in London, Ontario, in 1994, their lineup composed of avid metal scenesters: guitarist Jeff Longo, bassist Marek Kopala, drummer Jason Longo and vocalist Jason Deaville. Musically, at that time they were closest to Cannibal Corpse, although other metal bands like Morbid Angel, Samael, Kataklysm and Carcass played a role in their sound.

A 1995 demo (that saw a shift in style to what is now their own blend of death and black metal) helped the band secure a deal with Pulverizer Records, which released their debut album, “…a Dream to Remember” in 1997. A strong underground following began to build behind the group with albums like 1997’s “…a Dream to Remember” and 2002’s “As the Rain Gently falls”. Vocalist Conan Bulani, who joined the group in time to appear on the band’s debut album, sadly passed away in 2011. The Blood of Christ is now fronted by Ontario underground-metal veteran Hank Bielanski on bass & vocals.

The release of “Eastern Beast – Western Wolf”, a split CD & Cassette with Japanese hyper-groove masters Vomit Remnants on CDN Records in late 2020 will see the debut of Hank’s beastly craft with The Blood of Christ. The Blood of Christ is the embodiment of an Epic Dark Metal craft that in it of itself is limitless with possibility.
