Shumaun is a progressive metal band from Virgina, USA. This September they will be releasing a third album “Memories & Intuition”, from which they are now showcasing the second single, “Under the Sun” ft. Pain of Salvation drummer Leo Margarit, with a captivating lyric video.

“The opening guitar chords were very much inspired by the guitar work of Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins,” says Farhad Hossain. It is also good to note that unlike their previous album “Memories & Intuition” is not a concept album, but more thematically driven. The band explains the track further:

“Several aspects of the song are almost experimental. The backing vocals are not just doing harmonies, but they add another dimension to the lead vocals.” adds Tyler Kim.

“The music paints a dark mood, and the vocal melody is hauntingly beautiful and catchy. I love the breaks before the choruses. The ‘Shumaunic’ signature makes its way into the choruses since they’re in 7/4 time, yet doesn’t sound odd because of the groove. One of my favorites on the album for sure,” Jose Mora elaborates.

On this album, Shumaun wants the listener to be able to feel a connection to the melodies and lyrics. Expecting that everyone’s listening experience will be different, they just want the honesty and integrity of the music to resonate with the listener in whatever shape or form that may be. The band provides an accessible approach to modern progressive rock, with ambitious melodies and catchy harmonies.

Alongside the regular band lineup, on this album, Shumaun employs the talents of legendary drummers Thomas Lang (Peter Gabriel, Paul Gilbert), Atma Anur (Jason Becker, Tony Macalpine), and Mark Zonder (Fates Warning, Warlord). Drummers Leo Margarit (Pain of Salvation) and Chris DeChiara also contributed.

Shumaun’s brand of progressive rock is recommended for fans of Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, and Fates Warning.

“Under the Sun” can be heard via its premiere on MetalInjection HERE.

“Memories & Intuition” is releasing on September 10, 2021.

About:
Shumaun initially started as a solo project by Farhad Hossain (ex singer/guitarist/keyboardist of Iris Divine). After recording a few demos, he decided to recruit a few friends to help build the project into a full-fledged collaborative band. Through the course of recording their self-titled debut album, Shumaun went through a period of tribulation while securing a drummer. Original drummer Tanvir Tomal (ex Iris Divine) had to leave for professional obligations in the middle of the recording sessions and was later replaced with Waqar Khan (Entity Paradigm), who is also well known for his work with the platinum-selling Ali Azmat of the EMI recording artist Junoon (one of South Asia’s most successful rock bands). Waqar remained with the band long enough to record a few tracks on the debut record as well as appear live for some of the earlier shows. Travis Orbin (Darkest Hour, Periphery), Mark Zonder (Fates Warning, Warlord) recorded the remaining drums on the debut record that was released in the fall of 2015. Tanvir has since returned to the band as the live drummer.

2019 saw the band releasing their sophomore album “One Day Closer to Yesterday.” The album was once again mixed by Brett Caldas-Lima at Tower Studio in France. The album was rawer and heavier, but the melodies and vocals were never compromised. It includes the bombastic prog metal single “Go.”

2021 sees Shumaun releasing their third album “Memories & Intuition,” which features the amazing drumming of legends such as Thomas Lang (Peter Gabriel, Paul Gilbert), Atma Anur (Jason Becker, Tony Macalpine), Mark Zonder (Fates Warning, Warlord), and Leo Margarit (Pain of Salvation). Shumaun once again tapped Brett Caldas-Lima and Tower Studio for mixing and mastering. The album is their most melodic to date and consists of their single “Memories of Water.”

The Shumaun sound is shaped by the soaring vocals and lead guitar work of Farhad Hossain, the pounding melodic bass lines of Jose Mora, and the subtle guitar nuances of Tyler Kim. The band has received many accolades, and have made it onto several “album of the year” lists from sites such as Progressive Music Planet, Decibel Geek, and Metal Asylum etc. The band also won The Deli Magazine’s “Best of 2015” for Washington DC bands, and have been featured on Revolver Magazine, and Decibel Magazine.

About:
Kill The Imposter is an Orlando, USA-based deathcore band that was formed in late 2018. Pulling musical inspiration from everywhere, the intention of this four-piece band is to make you move in any capacity you see fit.

Coming from local and national bands, Kill The Imposter brings experience, drive, and mayhem, to the stage. The quartet banded together over a shared love for heavy and violent music, after sharing the stage for one song they knew they had something special, so they sat down together and within a week had 3 songs written and a video lined up. They haven’t stopped since that first sit down, and they won’t stop.

One of the founding members Danny Arrieta (guitar) is the primary music writer getting help with arrangement by Johnny Nobody (vocals). Nick Colvin (drums) carries the aggressive speed and heavy grooves with Wilson Bembry ( bass) definitely sharing and blending the thundering lows and technical playing between all of it.

Since they got together, Kill The Imposter has released “The Decimation” (2019), “A Strain Of Agony” (2020) and “The Violence Sessions” (2021). They have pummeled the stages of Central Florida Metal Fest and Tampa DeathFest and played alongside heavy hitters such as Nile and Terrorizer.

Calgary’s Osyron has been nominated for a YYC Music Award For Metal Recording of the Year for their 2020 album “Foundations”. The full length was released on July 10th of last year via SAOL/The Orchard and garnered much praise from both fans and industry for its musical diversity and its thought-provoking lyrical exploration of Canadian history and identity, speaking on topics on the country’s colonization to the mistreatment and recognition of Indigenous to the nation’s participation in global warfare.

A full list of nominees and award categories can be found at https://yycmusicawards.com/awards/2021/2021-yycma-nominees/

The band comments on their award nomination:

“We are beyond excited and grateful to be considered for this award among our peers, especially considering that the bulk of the production, recording and mixing on this release was done in-house by members of the band! This truly means the world to all of us! THANK YOU!”

Bloody Monroe – “Cast A Shadow”
SYRYN – “Beyond The Depths”
Benevolent Like Quietus – “Kill The Bliss
Telephone Silence – “Death By Luxury”

In additional news, Osyron will be performing at the Loud As Hell Festival kick-off party show on Thursday, July 29th at Neigbours’ Corner Pub in Drumheller, AB (event details here) in support of their latest release “Kingsbane: Deluxe Edition” released this past May.

“Kingsbane: Deluxe Edition” features all original recordings plus bonus tracks remixed by bassist Tyler Corbett and remastered by drummer Cody Anstey. The decision to re-release the record along with three rewritten and rearranged bonus tracks for Viper Queen, Griefmaker and Razor’s Wind (Acoustic) with current drummer Cody Antsey (original recordings were with former drummer Trevor Cobb) was an easy one after the great reception the band received from new fans for their 2020 album “Foundations”.

“Doing a re-release was never on our radar before, and definitely not something we previously considered for such a long and fleshed out album. However,  we felt that this album could do with a proper release in our target markets, and we had lots of time over the pandemic to try and breathe some new life into it. As such, we set out to remix and re-master the whole album, along with re-recording 3 songs in re-arranged states as singles. These three songs were picked based on their reception live, our personal connection to them, or for the amount of potential we saw in re-arranging them. We’re super excited to get all these songs out for you in a higher quality mix, but we’re easily most excited to get you to hear these new takes on some of our “classics”. “

The storyline for “Kingsbane” is about a hero who must reluctantly take up arms against a tyrant king in a neighbouring land. Along the way, he faces many inward, and outward challenges he must overcome to achieve his goal. Through it all, the hero learns a valuable lesson that even though they are duty-bound to stop this great evil, this great evil is also in the eye of the beholder. They discover that the weight of absolute power has the potential to corrupt absolutely – maybe not all villains are as one-dimensional as they seem from the outset.

Osyron‘s “Kingsbane: Deluxe Edition” is recommended for fans of Nightwish, Dream Theater, and Wintersun.

What the press is saying:
“Osyron is a band that takes matters into their own hands and literally does most of the production and studio work in-house. They have lovingly remixed their last album, and given fans old and new a brand new take on three songs which are worth the price of the album on their own. The music is all well executed and conceived, and the musicianship is top-notch for every player. Whether you already have the original release or not, the Kingsbane – Deluxe Edition is more than worth the price to add to your collection.” – Metal Express Radio

“This is a band in its best form. Osyron has shown that it continues to improve in its production level, so its next full length should be a reflection of the great evolution that they have shown in this reissue.” – Metal Rules (Review – Kingsbane Reissue 2021)

“‘Kingsbane’ Voted #17 Best of 2017” – Metal Rules

“I loved every second of this album. It is a fantastic experience. From the very first notes of the album to the last, your attention is completely captured. I even have had a hard time writing this review while listening to the album because I kept getting lost in the music. It just sucks you in. This is, without a doubt, a must-have album! You don’t want to miss out on this one. It is an experience that will become a staple of your collection. I know it will be a standout in mine. I loved every second and I know you will too.” – Uber Rock

“another brilliant record from this thrilling band.” – Ever Metal (Kingsbane Deluxe Edition (Remixed/Remastered))

“This is a great blend of epic heavy/folk metal that combines the folk stylings of bands such as Blind Guardian, with 90s thrash elements and 90s symphonic power metal style vocals.” – Cave Dweller Music – (Kingsbane Deluxe Edition (Remixed/Remastered))

Like many music events across Canada, Loud As Hell‘s 2020 production was forced to cancel due to the COVID pandemic. It was scheduled to be their 9th consecutive concert since the first metal jamboree in 2012. Over the years, the festival has hosted hundreds of Canadian and international bands in the prairie badlands. The 2019 edition of Loud As Hell sold out and melted faces off of metalheads who assembled from across the country for its 40 band line-up, which featured Goatwhore, Anciients, Planet Eater, Untimely Demise, Arrival of Autumn.

Loud As Hell event organizers were closely monitoring guidelines and updates from Alberta’s provincial government. The most recent announcement from officials to fully open up the province as of July 1st as part of their Stage 3 planning that states the following:

Stage 3: Two weeks after 70% of Albertans 12+ (born in 2009 or earlier) have received at least one dose. Effective July 1st.

  • All restrictions lifted, including the ban on indoor social gatherings.
  • Isolation requirements for confirmed cases of COVID-19 and some protective measures in continuing care settings remain.
  • The general indoor provincial mask mandate will be lifted, but masking may still be required in limited and specific settings.
  • More information will be shared prior to the start of Stage 3.

What the press is saying:
“Western Canada’s loudest heavy metal festival brings fans to town more known for dinos than drum solos.” – CBC Calgary

“Loud as Hell – one of Canada’s top underground metal festivals – was a metal family reunion. If you walked around the grounds, where tents covered the landscape like flowers, you would experience concert goers laughing, hugging and just enjoying the moment. The music played non-stop and the people were some of the best you’ll meet. What else do you need? If you’re a metal head fan, mark it down for next year because this is a concert you don’t want to miss.” – Blackfalds Life

“Headbanger alert: Loud As Hell festival to ramp up the volume” – Calgary Herald

“Loud as Hell has celebrated eight years in the Badlands to date, with acts from all over the world-shattering the peace and quiet of the hills in a camping and music extravaganza.” – Hanna Herald

“Drumheller with its dinosaur bones is the site of the annual Loud as Hell heavy metal festival Friday through Sunday. Dozens of the heaviest bands known to Man will be taking the stage, many of them Canadian” – Gig City

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – July 26, 2021

For fans of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath

Saudi Psychedelic Prog Songs of Petrichor New Animated Music Video “She’s In Black”

Self-Titled Album Out November 2021 via Wall of Sound Records

L-R – Shaharyar Hamdani (Vocals, Guitar), Yousuf Masood (Guitar, Bass), Omair Soomro (Drums, Lyrics)

Progressive grunge rock trio Songs of Petrichor released their debut single “Nomad” this past March in preview to their self-titled album coming November 2021 via Wall of Sound Records.

Today, the band is giving fans another sneak peek of what’s to come off the full-length with their second single entitled “She’s In Black”.

Conjuring up the 60’s psychedelic spirit with a bit of modern alternative madness, the trio continues elaborating their sound with their instruments adding a centerpiece with a prolific keyboard to create a raw yet jubilant dialogue with the hypnotic performance that will swirl within your head.

“It’s like hearing your old friend singing next to you, reminding you of the old beautiful days, but with no sense of remorse or guilt,  just shrug off your burden and enjoy the tune. Shahrayer on the vocals, guitars and keys manages to convey and delivers an on the spot performance, everything for this single was in the right place, no exaggeration, nor short in delivery, it’s just sounded right! Youssef on bass, couldn’t help himself, but have maximum fun tackling those rough strings, creating an exquisite harmony with the drums, rumbling throughout the notes, giving himself a space to let it out, on the other hand, we have Omair on the drums, one question we had on mind while listening to the single, how on earth did he manage that kind of impeccable delivery? Combining the contrasts, ruthlessness yet swiftness, oh, we can call him the gentle beast? That may depict the correct image when it comes to Omair’s style of play, we would go as far and say that he did elevated and carried undisputed emotions toward the end.” adds the band.

A well-crafted song, “She’s In Black” will take you back in time, but with-it own terms and Songs of Petrichor conditions adding their touches and what it seems like their futuristic trademarks that showed off clearly in their debut single ‘Nomad’ and now with ‘She’s In Black’ they are sure it will no be hindered or shied off on their forthcoming tracks to follow.

For fans of Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, and The Byrds, “She’s In Black” can be heard via its trippy animated music video on YouTube – https://youtu.be/p_FbJsOkmjE

About:
A nostalgic, melancholic revival of influenced 70’s prog, 90’s grunge, and South Asian classical music, Songs of Petrichor has fused a refreshing sound from the Middle East. With all members of the band being multi-instrumentalists, the crafting of songs has always taken an interesting approach with each of them having mutual respect for each other’s instrumentation.

Admitting that they are first and foremost a live experience, Songs of Petrichor’s true chemistry comes to life when adding improvisation to their stage performance, but in the meantime, with lockdowns around the globe, they feel it is necessary to allow the public to enjoy their sonic adventures online until then.

Songs of Petrichor’s goal with their forthcoming record is to take listeners on a journey of rain-induced sentiment, strong emotions, and adoration for the classic yet modern love of rock.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – July 24, 2021

For fans of Milanku, Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Opeth, Neurosis

Let Waves Of Experimental Post Rock Break Upon You With “Morii” From In Solastalgia, EitherWay

Music Video Premiere via V13

Debut EP “Morii” Out Sept 17th

In Solastalgia, EitherWay has a new EP “Morii” coming out and in advance of that, a music video for the title track is available to watch now. The solo project of Jean Philippe Hébert exists purely in instrumental form, a heavy, experimental, post-rock listening experience that is progressive, cinematic and in a genre all its own.

As Hébert explains, he is trying to create a complex, visual listening experience, like a short movie or a trip, in which the music itself changes intensity, emotions and comes in waves, there is a playful side that works with a nostalgic side. He continues, explaining the single in more detail:

“Morii : Water: it’s beauty and strength. Is an adventure that begins with a quiet walk by a water source, we then plunge into the water. As the underwater reveals a soft and silent world, we move on and the soft waters become rapids that make their way to the ocean.

Definition : Morii (noun): The desire to capture a fleeting experience.”

This upcoming, initial EP draws a complete picture of all the genres that the project is merging together: a post-apocalyptic screenshot of a non-utopic universe within a 6-song act.

Heavily influenced by film scores, In Solastalgia, EitherWay will likely continue further down this path, becoming more and more complex, with bigger arrangements and more instrumentation, when Hébert attends film school.

Stating that he is a rather shy person, it took him some time to get this project off the ground. About a year ago, he started showing his music and received enough positive feedback that it encouraged him to go ahead with his project. He also became fascinated by the idea of Solastalgia and the effect that environmental change has on our collective mental health.

In Solastalgia, EitherWay is recommended for fans of Opeth, Russian Circles and Mogwai.

The video for “Morii” can be viewed and heard via its premiere on V13.net HERE.

About:
Jean Philippe Hébert is an academically trained guitarist. Originally from Québec City, JP was educated at Notre-Dame-De-Foy campus, a private college in the outskirts of Quebec capital.  He grew up surrounded by nature with one brother and two parents in the medical field.

As a young boy, JP would admire a guitar that had been hung on the wall of his house for ages, until he found the courage to ask for the instrument and some lessons. As a teenager, JP played a lot, concentrating his efforts towards a heavy style of music, until he started college and began studying classical and jazz. He is also a multi-instrumentalist; playing not only guitar but piano, drums and bass as well as banjo, mandolin and other specialized guitars.

His musical abilities landed him many gigs with prominent local Quebec City acts like Elliot Maginot, Lisa Leblanc and Les Soeurs Boulay to name a few. For over a decade now he has been lead guitarist on many of these projects both in-studio and live settings.

He is currently working on a solo project “In Solastalgia EitherWay”, which is the fruit of many years of work; it was built around the philosopher Glenn Albrecht idea that describes a form of emotional or existential distress caused by environmental change. This project combines JP’s love for nature and music. His influences vary from Godspeed You! Black Emperor to Goat and to heavier things like Opeth. You can hear all these worlds colliding in his music, somehow perfectly placed in chaos.

The goal is to have a 6 song EP entitled “MORII” recorded by 2021 that will then be followed by a series of concerts. The concerts themselves will be worked on as moving portraits, as he will work closely on visuals with videographers. This project is both musical and visual.

Release Date: October 8, 2021

“This record is a culmination of a dark, tumultuous fucked up year in the world and in my personal life, as it was for many people around the world. As lucky as I am to still have work and my basic needs met, the emotional rollercoaster still affected me strongly and I ended up unemployed for a period in 2020, and thus this EP was born. It is both more human in that I collaborated more strongly with new songwriters and Jei on vocals, but also more mechanical as I also wrote with the assistance of AI creation tools, and most of the instrumentation is programmed MIDI. I feel like this is my most honest work as a writer, to express what came to mind rather than fit into a box or template of what Every Hour Kills ‘should’ sound like. It may alienate some people but so be it!” – Sacha Laskow – Every Hour Kills

“Every Hour Kills are a melodic metalcore band out of Calgary writing some killer music in the vein of modern Bring Me The Horizon or even In Flames. Re:Awaken features a slew of killer guest musicians in its ranks to help add an additional layer of musicianship. Re:Awaken is a wicked 4 track EP that features 3 original songs as well as a cover of Joe Satriani’s “Time”. For those of you who may also be vocalists yourselves, or maybe just really enjoy the musicianship, the EP also comes with instrumental versions of each of the songs. As a whole though, the EP only spans 18 minutes, it’s a very potent and filled release. A nice breath of fresh air in a genre where everyone wants to sound like a Sumerian Records band.” – Metal Injection

“Give Every Hour Kills a try if you’re into modern and progressive metal that comes with extra intrigue if you like using music to perk your curiosities.” – The Independent Voice

“This record is a presentation that will appeal to metal fans across the board.” – Phil’s Picks

“The band plays a sound of metal sounds extremely modern and melodic, coming across as a mix of Scar Symmetry and Fear Factory, with sprinkles of djent for added flair.” – New Noise Magazine

“Should the band be able to hold this standard on their first full-length album, one has to count on Every Hour Kills in the first league of Modern Metal. CrypticRock gives Every Hour Kills 4.5 out of 5 stars.”

“The song has an amazing feel to it that is uplifting and empowering at the same time and it makes you feel like could run a marathon and finish first place. “ – Headbanger Review

“Setting aside my bias for death and thrash metal, they mix melodic metal and electronic programming into something I found enjoyable and much different from what I spin on a daily basis.” – A Metal State of Mind

“On a final note I have to say that Every Hour Kills created nothing short of a mini-epic, and my only complaint is that I am left wanting a full sized album with more tracks than this one offered.” – Vents Magazine

“The music can be described as a powerful mix of the melodic power of (the early) Disturbed, the heaviness of Fear Factory and the musical craftsmanship of progressive acts like Dream Theater (in their ’old days’).” – Peek-a-boo Magazine

“Overall – This is an interesting blend of modern electronica and driving metal.  I can see them going far.” – SMN News

===============================

EP as a whole:
“This record is a culmination of a dark, tumultuous fucked up year in the world and in my personal life as it was for many people around the world. As lucky as I am to still have work and my basic needs met, the emotional rollercoaster still affected me strongly and I ended up unemployed for a period of time in 2020. I was lucky to have some savings and financial padding from my previous job so I took the opportunity to write this EP.”

Track by track explained:
1. Palindrome 2:01 – An instrumental intro that gives a good idea of the heavy and technical elements to come.

2. Vacua 3:28 – The 1st song written for the EP with extreme low-tuned riffs and nihilistic vocals.

3. Euclidian 2:57 – This song smashes together ‘normal’ EHK with the new vibe, with heavier sections and more melodic elements juxtaposed.

4. Tenebrous 3:34 – Another genre-crossing track with elements of synthwave and clean vocals in the verses crossed with heavy chugs and breakdowns.

5. Intransigent 4:08 – Closing out the EP with the heaviest song we’ve ever written, the lyrics encompass the concepts of chaos and infinity.

Every Hour Kills is a rotating collective ensemble featuring the core of ex-Divinity / Enditol guitarist and producer Sacha Laskow, bassist Brent Stutsky (ex-Breach of Trust), along with vocalists Jei Doublerice (Abiogenesis, Despite Exile, Sensory Amusia) and Jerrod Maxwell-Lyster (ex-Out of Your Mouth).

Every Hour Kills was built to challenge the idea of what defines a “band”. Rather, the group sees itself as a constantly evolving musical collective; guest vocalists and soloists across the songs bring their own unique artistry and elevate the collective impact of Every Hour Kills’ brand. The lyrics, artwork, visuals, and themes all look toward the future, asking the key postmodern question of how will emerging technology and our humanity progress and co-exist?

Quick Facts:

  • A pretty big change in style with adding Jei (Abiogenesis, Despite Exile).
  • Co-writing some of the music for the first time with Calle Thomer (Vildhjarta, Humanity’s Last Breath) and Chris Wiseman (Currents, Shadow of Intent).
  • Some of the music was written with help of AI tools and generators because fuck humans, also 95% of the instrumentation is programmed MIDI.

Utah’s Arsenic Addiction has a new music video “Moon & Sun” to unveil, which comes from their 2019 album “XIX”. As their third album, it shows a grown-up version of the band that has moved away from the theatrical Victorian theme they first embraced as a group. It is the longest they have spent writing and recording as they decided to focus on quality rather than just getting something out. This precision and attention to detail carries forward in the cinematic video for “Moon & Sun”.

According to the band, this single has been their biggest challenge to date as they set out to tell a tale that some of us know all too well. The band explains further:

“Star-crossed lovers, twin flames, but in their most tumultuous form. Everything was shot in the studio, which is something we’ve never done before. We had to create everything ourselves from the sets to the props, lighting, make-up, costumes, and supporting creations from some talented artists we admire. All of our videos have been ‘DIY’, but this time we didn’t have the beauty and awe of nature to rely on to help tell the story. An ancient archetype occurring in mythos throughout eternity, across the earth, from the stars above to the underworld below.  This is merely our story of ‘Moon & Sun’”.

5 years of hard work, late nights, band lineup changes, and dedication have cumulated into “XIX” and the listener should feel as though they are experiencing a journey of another’s love, sadness, anger, and pain. It’s laid out to feel as though you have walked in on the solitary practice of a witch, her life, her experiences, her secrets, her black rites.

“Moon & Sun” was filmed and directed by Brian Medeiros, and features costume pieces by Tuahadedana Germany, Hysteria Machine UK and Aconite Creations UK.

Dark, gothic and heavily melodic, Arsenic Addiction is recommended for fans of Cradle of Filth, Behemoth and In This Moment.

The video for “Moon & Sun” can be viewed via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

“XIX” was released on September 23, 2019.

Arsenic Addiction‘s “XIX” is available on Arsenicaddiction.bandcamp.com, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon.
