Calgary’s Ravenous announce they will be opening for Unleash the Archers’ Edmonton tour date on Saturday, November 6th at the Starlite Room. They will be performing in support of their new album “Hubris” recently unleashed on October 22, 2021 via Feast Beast Records (NA/EU) / Spiritual Beast (Asia).

Ravenous vocalist R. A. Voltaire adds:

“We are excited to join our friends UNLEASH THE ARCHERS in celebration of CONCERTWORKS’ 10 year anniversary. Not only are we great supporters of STARLITE ROOM (one of the best venues in Canada), we are also happy to see yet another venue and booking agency survive the havoc wreaked upon our industry by the Covid pandemic  – may this be the beginning of a prosperous time for bands, venues, staff, and crew all alike!”

Event Details can be found at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/events/1005204480319481/

Taking their performance, writing, and musicianship seriously, but allowing tongue-in-cheek humour and pop culture references to resonate through the songs, Ravenous is bringing fans anthemic tunes from a time when metal was hungry.

They bring a full lineup of experienced musicians together, ones that have toured extensively and are fully dedicated to providing a high-energy, high-intensity live experience. Ravenous seek to inspire others to find that inner triumph and glory that drove them to form this project – whether that means starting their own band, or just finding the strength to make a change in their lives – they seek to empower their followers through every step of their journey.

“Hubris” was produced by Ravenous with mixing and mastering done by Fredrik Nordström (In Flames, Opeth, Firewind) along with album guests Vincent ‘Jake’ Jones of Aether Realm, Heinrich Yoshio of Aether Realm, Mathias Blad of Falconer, Nina Osegueda of A Sound of Thunder, The Dread Crew of Oddwood (Full Band).

“Calgary’s Ravenous have fused their flamboyant cross-breeding of European power metal and early ‘80s US speed metal, using it like a sharp ’n’ shiny scythe to forge their way through the crowded underground. Past accomplishments have included tours and gigs with Delain, Alestorm, Hammerfall, Striker and Powerglove with festival appearances and headliners interspersed in between. Considering all of the above, it shouldn’t come as a surprise a large part of this quintet’s musical vocabulary involved loving it speedy, epic, melodically grandiose while having a sword waving good time in the process.” – Decibel Magazine

“Ravenous aren’t afraid to put it all out there; symphonic assaults blend with all-out thrash metal, underpinned by some of the most enthusiastic power metal of the year. From start to finish Hubris is chock full of anthemic and contagious fist-pumping, head-banging songs featuring dramatic vocals and shredding solos. Power metal fans rejoice: Hubris is a worthy addition to your collection.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“A great album of Power Metal, and even more. 9.5/10” – Metal Express Radio

“a sparkling speed metal fuelled power metal rampage, raising fists high, banging heads hard, and causing fans everywhere to roar out loud with delight. 5/5” – Metal-Roos

“a sparkling speed metal fuelled power metal rampage, raising fists high, banging heads hard, and causing fans everywhere to roar out loud with delight.10/10” – Metal Gods TV

“Hubris reminds me of early Dragonforce (the faster numbers) and Orden Ogan (the mid-paced material) though the songwriting is a notch or two below those bands currently. This is a solid second album from Ravenous, who display significant upside, and fans of the aforementioned bands will want to give it spin. 3.75/5” – The Metal Crypt

EP Title: Kyr’am Beskar
Release Date: January 14, 2022
Label: SBDC Records (Slamming Brutal Death Community)
Distribution: DIY Digital

“Kyr’am Beskar (Mandalorian for “Death Metal”) is 4 grinding tracks of crushing death metal inspired by the Dark Side! Each song is a gruesome tome from the Canon Arcane, serving shredding riffs, ripping thrash solos, epic overtures, and inhuman drums!” – Ecryptus

“Over this EP’s four track Ecryptus created death metal about lightsaber death, dying in a sarlacc pit, and more.” – Metal Injection

“it’s such an adrenaline-fueled shock-and-awe campaign, one that’s technically eye-popping, eerie and evil, and terrifically obliterating.” – No Clean Singing

“Crushing display of death metal, Ecryptus delivers…” – The Razor’s Edge

“the performances here are razor sharp and these tracks have proven to be fun and crushing in equal capacity. 8/10 ” – Metal Trenches

“The universe of Ecryptus is as thick as a bantha and as sharp as a lightsaber. With Kyr’am Beskar, the group shows us that it is always present and ready to take up arms to keep its place in the scene. 8/10” – Acta Infernalis

“Planetary Enslavement is possibly my favourite song on this release. It shows a degree of technicality and proficiency that is a little too uncommon. It’s exceptionally precise in its musicianship and understands that just because you go fast doesn’t make you good. This however is both fast and excellent. 8/10” – Rock Out Stand Out

“Ecryptus brings us gurglegrind riff salad ” DeathMetal.org

“Kyr’am Beskar is a more than good EP for fans of complex music. I really don’t know why they are not in a big label with good distribution to the deathbangers. And after all of that I’ve just realized there is a baby yoda burning in cover art. What the actual fuck? 10/10” Dark Souls United

“Live, the group takes the stage sporting sith-corpse paint, robes, armor, Dragoncon-acquired lightsabers, and their friend Scara Slayfield wearing her best “Hutt Slayer” Princess Leia outfit, serving drinks to the stage, and adorning the monitors.” – Rad ATL

““Rancorous” opens with a mighty roar before a spiraling assault of blast beats and demonic incantations rise over searing guitar leads that burn with the heat of Vader’s red lightsaber.” – Rad ATL

Ecryptus are an elite group of assassins from Korriban, now based in Atlanta, Georgia. We dispense galactic death metal inspired by the Dark Side and brutal tales of the Canon Arcane.

=====================================================

The EP as a whole:

Kyr’am Beskar features 4 grinding tracks of crushing death metal inspired by the Dark Side! Each song is a gruesome tome from the Canon Arcane, serving shredding riffs, ripping thrash solos, epic overtures, and inhuman drums!

Track by Track Explained:

1. Cauterized Saber Wound Massacre – Grinding out the macabre scene of an entire field of bodies, cleaved effortlessly by a maniac wielding a laser sword.

2. Planetary Enslavement – The morose tale of an entire species being forced into slavery under the rule of an invading empire. The track chugs into a furious battle, a bitter and tragic loss of life.

3. Compulsion to Disintegrate – A lightning-fast barn burner, rife with gravity blasts and all the shred! Follow a Mandalorian bounty hunter on a ride through the galaxy to collect undead trophies!

4. Digested Over a Thousand Years – This track invokes the doom, dread, and insanity of being slowly digested, regenerated, and digested again over the course of a millennium. The song begins a doom-laden funeral overture, then blasts into a movement of insanity before slowly fading into oppressive doom.

======================================

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS:

EPK – Hammerdrone – A Trinity of Rage (EP) (2021)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“As once aggressively heavy and hauntingly melodic, the EP incorporates a variety of black and progressive metal influences to present an EP that both pushes the boundaries and embraces the roots of our old-school, melodic death metal origins.  We deliberately eschew clean singing as a dilution of the heavy intensity that we try to create with our music, so we have been described as ‘death metal that happens to be melodic’, rather than the ‘melodeath’ that many bands describe themselves as.  Lyrically, this is a concept EP that tells a tale in a traditional trilogy form – the rise of the hero against a force of evil; the struggle of that hero against his own doubts and the rising power of the evil that threatens to crush him; and the hero’s final, bittersweet triumph.” – Hammerdrone

“”… here with Dark Harvest confirming itself as a heavy hitter, no doubt. Check out the title track for a killer example of intense melodic death paired with catchy songwriting” – Greg Pratt, Bravewords  (CAN) 8/10 – Dark Harvest review

“”There’s no substitute for good songwriting, and Hammerdrone have that concept well in mind. If you are looking for a new death metal band to seek out, Hammerdrone is a great starting point.” – Kyle McGinn, Dead Rhetoric (USA) 7.5/10 – Dark Harvest review

“‘Dark Harvest’ is a triumph of Old School Death Metal and what all the other bands should be striving to match.” Nik Cameron, Glacially Musical (USA)  – Dark Harvest review

“Imagine a cross between Dark Tranquility in ‘The Gallery’ stage with Rotting Christ in the ‘Dead Poem’ phase and Tiamat in the ‘Wildhoney’ phase, without forgetting Sentenced in the ‘Amok’ phase. Ready? Good. ‘Dark Harvest’ is better.” – Fernando Ferreira, World of Metal (POR) 9/10 – Dark Harvest review

“If the last few Amon Amarth albums actually had balls, their music would sound like Hammerdrone.” – The Metal Advisor, The Metal Advisor (May 11, 2014) –  Clone of Europa review

“…melodic death of this calibre may not be hard to find, but it rarely has this much classiness and energy behind it.” – Greg Pratt, Bravewords (Apr 07, 2014) – Clone of Europa review

“Hammerdrone’s songwriting prowess, attention to detail and willingness to push itself to try different things is what really sets Clone of Europa  apart..Somebody sign them already!”- Roswell47, Metal Psalter (Jul 15, 2014)  – Clone of Europa review

“a perfect combination of melodic and extreme…this Metal band helps give the underground of Metal its grand reputation”- Stone, Metal Odyssey (Jul 01, 2013) – A Demon Rising review

“Their music has a certain unholy majesty to it that few bands can obtain…” – Matt Baggins, Two Metal Guys Reviews (Mar 13, 2013)  – A Demon Rising review

“a great, hard-hitting Death Metal experience”- The Circle Pit, The Circle Pit (Jan 11, 2013) – A Demon Rising review

“Lead vocalist, Graham Harris, had impeccable skill, projection and charisma – as did bassist Teran Wyer and guitarist Curtis Beardy.  Their stage dynamics exuded chemistry, adrenaline and drive…Lead guitarist, Rick Cardellini stood out with his intricate solos and expressive musicianship.  All in all, Hammerdrone were my favourite band of the night, and – in my opinion – the Wacken Battle winners.” – Amina Abdelwahab, Metal Master Kingdom (Jun 9, 2018) – Live Review

“Frontman Graham Harris was on fire during the entire concert, growling and roaring (and also making faces) like a beast, while his bandmates…delivered a well-balanced fusion of the more harmonious lines from Melodic Death Metal with the sheer heaviness and aggressiveness of old school Death Metal…after Hammerdrone’s concert was over, I knew the judges were going to have a very difficult time deciding who should be crowned the 2018 champions.” – Gustavo Scuderi, The Headbanging Moose (Jun 9, 2018) – Live Review

“This was the third time I had seen them play live over the past three months, and no lie, these adepts of melodic death metal never fail to awe…”- Xavier Catterinch, Metal Master Kingdom (Apr 6, 2018) – Live Review

Calgary, Canada’s death metal juggernaut, Hammerdrone, return with their most ambitious recording yet: “A Trinity of Rage”.

Deliberately written as a concept release and painstakingly crafted over the course of four years, the EP is accompanied by an original short story, “Eversor” (available as a bonus download via Bandcamp). The story revolves around the fictional second book of Revelation, in which is foretold the threat of Heaven’s destruction at the hands of Eversor, The Destroyer.

As the written story of “Eversor” ends, the EP begins, with both the music and lyrics of the three songs completing the narrative arc that the story introduces.

At once aggressively heavy and hauntingly melodic, the band incorporates a variety of black and progressive metal influences to present an EP that both pushes the boundaries and embraces the roots of their old-school, melodic death metal origins.

Mixed by the band and then burnished to shine by the professional mastering skills of the legendary Jens Bogren (Amon Amarth, Be’lakor, Rotting Christ, etc) at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden, the result is an epic and forceful musical expression of betrayal, broken faith and vengeance

“A Trinity of Rage” is due out December 10th, 2021, and will be available on all digital music platforms.

Edmonton death metallers Display of Decay announce they will perform their only hometown show of the year since the Covid pandemic closed city establishments for extreme live music.

During the pandemic, the band entertained fans with their old school brutality with live streams, played their only live show of 2020 at Decimate MetalFest during December along with them performing their one and only outdoor live event for 2021 at Alberta’s decibel-breaking metal fest Loud As Hell this past August.

On December 3rd, at Shakers Roadhouse in Edmonton, AB alongside Ashes of Yggdrasil, Naitaka, and Ravage Red, Display of Decay will showcase not only their latest album “Art In Mutilation” (2018) (Gore House Productions), but delight and punish their audience with an onslaught of new blast beats and evil gutturals from their yet to be titled forthcoming 2022 album.

Eager to melt faces and shake crowds with their personal blend of old school death metal in the veins of Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, and Decapitated, the band adds:

“Bringing talent from all over western Canada, as well as injecting our own “special touches”, we want this show to be one of the most memorable events of the year for lovers of heavy music.”

Event details can be found at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/events/2156367437839217/

Destroying stages and performing at festivals for over a decade, Display of Decay are veterans of the Canadian death metal scene. They have supported artists such as Kataklysm, Cattle Decapitation, The Faceless, Origin, Beyond Creation, Disciples of Power, Archspire and Into Eternity along with multiple tours across the USA and Western Canada plus performances on festivals Las Vegas DeathFest, Loud As Hell, Slaughterfest, Armstrong MetalFest, and Farmageddon Open Air. After five well-received indie releases, Display of Decay will be unleashing a new album in 2022.

Montreal, QC – October 29, 2021

Bam&Co.Heavy: Out Now! THRASH LA REINE French Canadian Folklore Album “Notre-Dame-de-l’Enfer”

Montreal’s Thrash La Reine has a new album “Notre-Dame-de-l’Enfer” out now as of October 29th via Bam&Co. Heavy. The full-length is the third release from the band following “La Foi, La Loi, La Croix” (2019) and “Le Métal Est Notre Langue” (2018). The concept album, produced by producer Francis Perron (Voivod – The Wake), is Thrash La Reine‘s metal opera about French Canadian folklores presented over thirteen heavy metal bangers, 9 full songs, and 4 instrumental interludes. Overall, the album will connect with many Francophone fans, but the band’s goal is to also expose French Canadian culture to more metalheads around the globe no matter their language.

“Metal is universal, no matter what language it is vocally and lyrically presented in. On ‘Notre-Dame-de-l’Enfer’, these French Canadian folk tales are all about ghosts, witches, sins, and the devil himself! It fits really well with the metal imagery! The album touches on a lot of different styles: fast, slow, sad, happy songs with either coarse or clean vocals. We also incorporated some traditional instruments on this album with the use of mandolin, acoustic guitar, strings, accordion, and cowbell along with singing and harmonies that are reminiscent of traditional chants.”

Thrash La Reine is recommended for fans of Alestorm, Powerwolf, and King Diamond.

The album can now be streamed and downloaded on the following platforms: Thrashlareine.bandcamp.com, Spotify, Apple Music.

Bam&Co.Heavy: disponible maintenant !

Montreal, QC – October 29, 2021

For fans of Eluveitie, Korpiklaani, Alestorm

Rockshots Records: Out Now! Italian Symphonic Folk Metal AEXYLIUM New Album “The Fifth Season”

New Music Video “Mountains”

Italian symphonic folk metallers Aexylium have a new album “The Fifth Season” out now as of October 29th via Rockshots Records. For the full-length’s release day, they are unveiling their new music video “Mountains”, a track the celebrates the feeling of lightness and freedom that only the mountains can give.

Visually spectacular with the backdrop of the Italian Alps (Passo Della Presolana) and filmed by Maurizio Del Piccolo di Moviedel Productions, “Mountains” can be watched at the following link: https://youtu.be/dTt14GcEz9k

Mixing traditional folk instruments (Flute, Violin, Bouzouki) with the modern symphonic metal, Aexylium‘s sophomore full length follows 2018’s “Tales From This Land” (Underground Symphony Records) and their 2016 self-produced EP “The Blind Crow“. “Tales From This Land” has had over 110k streams on Spotify along with its powerful single “Revive the Village’ placing on the top 200 metal song charts in Germany on Apple Music. Aexylium has also released fan-praised covers of Game of Thrones and Vikings main themes with reinterpreted folk metal sounds.

Since their inception in 2014, the Italian band has performed at renowned festivals in Europe such as Dumeltica International Music Festival, Montelago Celtic Festival, Malpaga Folk & Metal, Rock Inn Somma, Druidia and Strigarium along with sharing the stage with Elvenking, Wind Rose, Nervosa, Furor Gallico, Temperance and more. In August 2020, despite Covid restrictions, Aexylium was chosen by the city of Milan to perform at the historical Castello Sforzesco.

Their new album “The Fifth Season” is a concrete step towards growth and musical maturity with its offering of festive ballads, tighter riffs, advanced orchestrations and heavier dark songs that are all inspired by Norse Mythology. The record also features guest vocals from Samuele Faulisi (Atlas Pain), Arianna Bellinaso and the members of Coro Facoltà di Musicologia Vocal Ensemble. The album was recorded at Twilight Studio by Davide Tavecchia with the artwork done by Jan Yrlund of Darkgrove Design (Manowar, Testament, Korpiklaani.

EPK – TYMO – The Art of A Maniac (2022)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

For fans of Megadeth, Slayer, Lich King, Municipal Waste, Exodus

“The Art Of A Maniac” is a great representation of where we are at now! Playing live with other Alberta thrash bands such as Hazzerd and WMD has definitely influenced this record! It feels good to have finally written a full-on thrash album and it was good to take the extra time over the pandemic and make sure we were satisfied with everything! We pushed our speed and playing boundaries on this record, it’s really different from our last album Purge & Reset. Any fans of thrash metal will definitely appreciate this record and we hope it’s added to their collection. Definitely our most aggressive and most focused record yet!” – TYMO

“THE ART OF A MANIAC is probably one of the best thrash releases of the month!” – Metal Hammer Germany – February 2022

“In the mood for a good ol’ fashioned thrashing? Feeling the need for speed? Is it party time? If the answer to any (or all) of the above is/was a resounding “fuck yes!” then Tymo’s The Art Of A Maniac was the thrash album for you… Relentless and, most importantly FUN, Tymo’s clean, crisp lethal riffage and Tim Tymo’s feral barks combined to create a detailed thrash canvas liberally sprayed with blood, sweat, tears and beers….Bob Ross would approve (probably).” – Worship Metal (The 5 Greatest Canadian Thrash Albums of 2022!)

“Both of this Canadian band’s two first albums were solid thrash outings but nothing prepares you for the absolute mauling and downright punishing assault this third one subjects you to. Every tune here is a thrasher’s delight, the blistering and wholly savage intent being there for all to hear, as opening instrumental ‘Tymonicide’ proves, and then some. What gets your attention is the wicked production, giving this one of the most vicious guitar sounds you’ll hear in 2022… Relentless. energised and thoroughly riveting, this is a thrasher’s dream. Play loud and it’s guaranteed to piss your neighbours off, or have them join the pit. 9/10” – Powerplay Magazine

“a thunderous cacophony of thrash, fuelled by aggression and menace, ‘The Art Of A Maniac’ is terrific. 10/10” – Metal Gods TV

“Why I like it: Heavy, frantic thrash metal.” – AlanCross.ca

“another kick ass Canadian thrash act I will need to add to the ever expanding library of metal.” – Apoch’s Metal Reviews

“TYMO are an enrichment for the thrash scene. Tempo, joy of playing, song hosting – a whole lot fits together wonderfully. I’m excited to see what’s to come.” – My Revelations

“The Short List: 6 Titles You Want to Hear. these are the albums I’ll be spinning – TYMO” – Tinnitist

“My puny gripes about the lightning velocity aside, this record has won me over after multiple listens thanks to its frenzied riff work, hilarious themes & hooks, brilliant cover art, and sheer stubbornness. It definitely will take a few repeats to reveal all the enjoyable bits and bobs it has to offer, because it will inevitably whizz through your ears in a blinding flurry of shredding at first. The Art Of A Maniac will, quite simply, grab you by the face and keep hammering your skull into a wall at mach-speed until you’re forced to admit that you’re actually having a fantastic time. That’s what the ‘war beneath the skull’ was for me, anyway… 8.5/10” – Metal-Observer

“If you want uncompromising thrash metal with the edge of the likes of Municipal Waste, look no further than Canadian thrashers TYMO… Overall, ‘The Art of a Maniac’ is an aggressive, full-on thrash record that stands solidly as a sophomore release. Jagged, thick riffage dominates but not to the detriment of the other elements. If you like your thrash violent and fun, TYMO should be a band you check out.” – The Razors Edge Rocks

“these Alberta-bound Canucks not only walk the walk but talk the talk, contributing another mighty slab of unrelenting party-thrash to the never-ending thrash revival. Throw in plenty of nods to fellow genre miscreants like Municipal Waste and Gama Bomb and a few classic flourishes, and you’re in for one riffy ride.” – Angry Metal Guy

“this is a quick hitting assault that delivers plenty of punch, ideal transitions, and potent rhythms/lead play for even the newcomers to incessantly headbang and throw themselves about… Those into the work of Lich King, older Megadeth, and Exodus could easily enjoy and savor Tymo. 8/10” – Dead Rhetoric

“Canadian thrash metal group Tymo know what its audience wants on The Art Of A Maniac: 32 minutes of neck-smashing music meant to be consumed in an environment with bodies flying around. The urgency behind songs like the anthemic “Alcoholocaust” and rambunctious instrumental “Tymonicide” is a feature that elevates this album above their last one.. The Art Of A Maniac is a step up for Tymo, a no-nonsense thrash album with mayhem on its agenda. 3.5/5” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“It’s a fast and aggressive but precise and melodic sound Tymo have crafted, combining elements from both the European and American schools.” – The Metal Crypt

“In the World of Tymo there is no holding back and no time to waste as scores are settled and riffs fly like bullets with deadly accuracy, leaving no place to hide and no time to run for cover. The fretboard smoking Speed Thrash attack begins with instrumental “Tymonicide“, the conjoined twin of “Sanity Clause” as together like Butch Cassidy and the Sun Dance Kid they blast their way out of the record and into your unsuspecting ear drums.” – Metal Noise

“The Art Of A Maniac Tymo manages to combine riffs full of the heaviness of 1980s thrash with their own modern means and ingenious solos, and can thus appeal to fans of old-school veterans like Megadeth or Exodus as well as younger fans of convincing with more progressive metal. For me the first highlight of 2022, and therefore 9 / 10” – Soundmagnet Magazin

“straightforward classic thrashy stuff. cool!!” – WORT Mosh Pit Radio 89.9 FM – Madison, WI

“nothing beats a good album of “brain-breaking music” – Olivier No Limit

“The Art Of A Maniac is a solid album… Highly recommended for fans of Megadeth, Slayer, Lich King, Municipal Waste and Exodus.” – MetalFan.nl

“This really hits the spot. From the opening instrumental “Tymonocide” to the final blur of “Alcoholocaust”, this bunch never lets up on the gas. This isn’t the chunky, chugging kind of thrash or the more, melodic progressive variety…this is pure manic speed, chock full of shifty riffs and acid-spitting guitar solos.” – Wormwood Chronicles

“”The Art of a Maniac” is a thrash orgy whose title lives up to its promise… Incessant continuous barrage with breakneck tempo dynamics, rock-hard precision and purposeful, to the point attitude. A mighty furious Thrashorkan, taking no prisoners with furious power, mercilessly blowing everything away!” FFM-Rock.de

“I’m hearing what could be roughly described as a mixing of the riffs of EvilDead and Tankard, the thrashier backline of Suicidal Tendencies, the lyrical nods to Acid Reign and Exodus, and Al Jourgensen-style vocals.” – SDMetal

“the “axes” are fluid and sharp… The vocal registers are violent and seasoned… Don’t hesitate to listen to him.” – Broken Tomb

“it’s a flurry of aggressive riffs and angry vocals that we’re talking about. In addition, the solos are phenomenal and the tempo remains frantic from start to finish. Fans of the first Megadeth, Exodus, Slayer or more recently of Lich King or Municipal Waste will find themselves there.” – Soil Chronicles

“‘The Art of a Maniac’ is a thrilling thrash metal album that doesn’t reinvent the wheel of metal. It is the pure energy that drives these songs, tracks that unfold their dynamic and powerful vibe right away. It’s just what you need for a good metal party.” – Markus Heavy Music Blog

“Drenched in classic thrash’s greatest hits but carving a determined identity from all this 80s goodness, Tymo’s work is exemplary. At what point could you want anything else from a modern thrash record? Seriously, put that title track on and tell me if you’ve heard a better thrash track than that in the past year or so? I’m not sure I have. Get this now!” – Killchain Blog

“Riffs cutting like a razor”- Hardrocker Magazine

“Frontman Tim Tymo’s vocal style is in the vein of Black Album-era James    Hetfield with a great melodic grit” – Metal Master Kingdom

“When I hear the instrumental tune Flames To Frost, I think of early Iron Maiden” – Hard Rock Info

============================

The album as a whole:

The album has a common theme of destruction and chaos! Themes of destroying to gain control and take over! Lyrically and musically the album moves very fast, we wanted to create a feeling of chaos happening all around the listener! We touch on subjects of mental illness, alien invasion, civil conflicts, social media, and substance abuse! We accompany that with fast riffs, shreddy solos and thick angry vocals! – Tim Tymo

Track by Track Explained:
1. Tymonicide: A fast instrumental opener to warm the listener up to the band and the new record! It leads directly into the next track “Sanity Clause.” Similar to Megadeth’s “Into The Lungs Of Hell” leading into “Set The World Afire.”

2. Sanity Clause: An angry thrasher touching on the subjects of suicide and the journey to hell to relive the pain over and over again! The riffs accompany the vocals in anger and it cuts through the pain like a razor! A fast punch in the face to start off the album!

3. Mars Attacks: Possibly Tymo’s new thrash anthem. Lyrically it’s about the film and the comics “Mars Attacks.” It tells the story of the Martians annihilating the human race and taking over the Earth! The riffs morph into each very smoothly. If you love old school Exodus, you will love Mars Attacks!

4. Estrogenocide: One of the groovier and gallopy tracks on the album! Lyrically it tells the story of women taking over the Earth and slaughtering all of the men to create a Utopia! Surviving men are enslaved for their seed to continue the human race! This track was inspired by the Rick & Morty Episode “Gazorpazorp.”

5. Age Of Deception: A groovy, progressive, jazz fusion inspired track, similar to Megadeth’s first two records “Killing Is My Business” and “Peace Sells.” The song touches on the subject of social media abuse and how people change once they get behind technology! The human race is now very connected yet very distant from each other!

6. The Roy Parson Project: A song with a mix of fast thrash and groove metal! It’s inspired by Roy Parson from the Rick & Morty episode “Mortynight Run.” It touches on the subject of Roy’s journey and the effects of video game addiction. We like to escape real life to find more enjoyment in the virtual world! If you’re a Lich King fan, you love this track!

7. War Beneath The Skull: The slowest and most progressive song on the album. A journey through different time signatures and feel changes. It’s a groovefest with some industrial elements! Lyrically it’s about the internal fight that comes with mental illness. Always having a battle with yourself!

8. The Art Of A Maniac: The title track of the album is definitely the angriest and most ferocious song on the album! The riffs are fast and will satisfy any thrash metal fan, this song has a little bit of everything from the album. The lyrics were inspired by “Art The Clown” and “The Devil’s Rejects.” It follows the point of view of a mass murderer on a killing spree. A full on maniac!

9. Alcoholocaust: Tymo’s party and drinking anthem! This is Tymo’s “Whiplash.” Fast open string riffs that take you on a wild ride! It tells the story of Tymo on tour and partying their way through every town! Very Municipal Waste inspired! We wanted to end the album with a bang and we feel this song delivers!

==============================

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS

1. So far most of Tymo’s song subjects revolve around destruction, aliens, and Rick & Morty!

2. Tymo started out as a hard rock band but we were a metal band at heart! We were pulled aside by a promoter after our second show and told we should be ourselves and play what we want to play, which is metal. The rest is history!

3. Tymo is well known for how well they cover other metal songs! The band performed as “Megadeth” at a Bands As Bands Halloween show back in 2019! The band covered Holy Wars…The Punishment Due, Skin O My Teeth, Wake Up Dead, The Conjuring, Devil’s Island, & My Last Words!

4. Songs Age Of Deception and We The Pawns include gang vocals from all four band members! Both parts were recorded in a cramped vocal booth with the band circled around a vocal mic! Social distancing at its finest!

5. While filming the music video for Killer Krom, the band invited a bunch of fans to be a part of the video! Everyone was paid with pizza and all you can drink Lucky beer! It was one of the drunkest Sundays we have ever had, it definitely shows in the video!

“A golden shower of thrash metal!” Six words to sum up Tymo! A band whose attitude lives up to the title of their debut album “Purge & Reset”. Lead guitarist and vocalist Tim Tymo explains that the origin of the title is more than words; it is a statement of lost faith in humanity. “Let’s just say we have a creator or superior being. If this god gave up everything we needed to flourish and returned to see all the wars and corruption, it would want to wipe the slate clean and start over. Hence…PURGE AND RESET!

Formed in Edmonton in 2015, Tymo is comprised of Tim Tymo as the lead guitarist and vocalist, Nick Schwartz on rhythm guitar, Harlen Jacobs on bass, and Marc Durie on drums.

Tim Tymo describes the band’s sounds as “loud, angry, and explosive thrash”. Tymo has a serious mission to entertain their fans. “We love writing and performing, and we all share a common passion for thrash metal. We wanted to reference our heroes and mix up that inspiration with our own brew and see what we came up with, and here we are. We want to give people a source of inspiration and excitement!

Tymo’s debut album “Purge & Reset” was released in August of 2017 and Tymo performed shows in support of the album throughout 2018. The band returned to the studio in early 2019 to record a single entitled “Sanity Clause.” It was released in late 2019 with very positive reviews and sold-out shows! Due to Covid 19, the band spent much of 2020 in the studio recording their follow-up album to Purge & Reset!

As of 2021, Tymo performed at the Loud As Hell Festival 2021 and has finished recording their next full-on thrash album! Much faster and more aggressive than Purge & Reset. The album entitled “The Art of A Maniac” is planned to be released in 2022 and Tymo has a mission to expand its audience and dominate the world! Planning to tour Europe and many other countries.

See you out there!

Prog Duo ATHEMON (ft. ex-Haken) Offer Free Download of Debut Self-Titled Album

Athemon, a duo featuring Tom MacLean (bassist/producer, To-Mera, ex-Haken) and Adriano Ribeiro (vocalist and guitarist) are offering up to progressive metal fans a FREE download of their debut self-titled album released recently on October 11th.

“Full of dark and enigmatic atmospheres, this is a concept record that is meant to be heard as one long 50-minute track divided into nine parts, which tells a story about self-awareness. This is a creative release that seeks to forge the perfect alloy of darkness and beauty,” adds the band.

The full length can be downloaded for FREE at the following link: Flyathemon.bandcamp.com

The story of Athemon comes together while many musicians were in lockdown during the Covid pandemic and unable to congregate for simple jams or have outlets to perform their music. Using this global pause, two musicians Tom MacLean based in the UK, and Adriano Ribeiro based in Brazil crossed paths online and used the digital world to their advantage to give rise to their new band Athemon.

“Adriano sent me his demo and it gave me goosebumps, so I was keen to get involved,” says MacLean.

From a significant evolution between demos to their final introductory recordings, MacLean and Ribeiro created a bonding friendship over musical interests that created the perfect environment to allow them to evolve and conceive their debut album.

Formed as a gateway to express their art using progressive metal music, the duo invited a special guest drummer from Brazil; Gledson Gonçalves who added his percussionist touch to compliment each one of the nine tracks.

“As nobody goes alone in this world (even being totally alone inside one’s own mind), the songwriting process had a lonely beginning, but a very collaborative end. The beginning of this project was driven by Adriano, but nothing would fit so well if it wasn’t for the amazing connection the three of us have (Adriano, Tom, and our special guest on drums, Gledson),” says MacLean.

The lyrics for the album were written by vocalist/guitarist Adriano Ribeiro and were inspired by thoughts of how confusing reality can be if you are not taking care of your emotional side. “The thin line between what’s real and what’s not is an endless world,” adds Ribeiro.

New fans of Athemon, can expect much more to come from the pair as they already have plans to launch their second album by the end of 2022, which they are currently composing with promising results.

As for the live spectacle of Athemon, for now, the band will let the music flow until the duo can connect from across the Atlantic for their first in-person jam session.

Recommended for fans of Nevermore, Pain of Salvation, Opeth, Gojira, and Mastodon, Athemon‘s self-titled debut is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and all other major digital music platforms.

The Design Abstract melds together narrative sci-fi with Gothenburg-esque melodic death metal, resulting in ambiguous concept albums that sound completely different from other artists in the genre. Their latest album “Metemtechnosis” continues the “Technotheism” (2021) storyline after an indeterminate amount of time in the universe. The band compares this new album to the last, and lets us know what’s coming next:

“Many people had many positive things to say about “Technotheism” upon its release, and we feel that “Metemtechnosis” is a worthy successor to it. Compositionally, we have refined many elements and parts of the processes, and from a technical standpoint, we have really stepped up a lot. Those who wanted to hear more of the killer guitar work will assuredly not be disappointed. “Metemtechnosis” also carries on the story of “Technotheism” in part two of what will be a trilogy. Everything that was present in “Technotheism” has been brought back in more compelling ways, and the performances are more on-point than ever before.”

Similar to “Technotheism”, the tracks were written as necessary to touch on the major story beats of the album; an overarching science-fiction story about a far future where technological advancement puts into question a lot of things taken for granted, like the definition of humanity, individuality, progress, and the line between all of these things. After the third album in the trilogy is released, The Design Abstract will move to a different fictional setting, but the music will continue to experiment with the elements they use in new and innovative ways.

All songs on “Metemtechnosis” were written and performed by Voiicide (vocals/bass/programming), Logan Mayhem (guitars/modular synthesis), and Matt Ngo (guitars). It was produced, mixed, and mastered by Voiicide at Abstrakted Records and the album artwork was done by Yuta Shimpo.

The Design Abstract has a sound that is distinctively theirs and is recommended for fans of Soilwork, Septicflesh, and Divine Disorder.

“Metemtechnosis” is streaming now in full via its exclusive premiere on Bravewords HERE.

The album “Metemtechnosis” drops on October 29, 2021 via Abstrakted Records.

The band focuses heavily on storytelling and worldbuilding with a futuristic and sci-fi narrative to each album they create. The Design Abstract formed in 2011 as a solo project under the name Design, and after many lineup changes, grew into a musical entity that presents a bold, epic, and even monolithic fusion of orchestra, synth, and melodic death metal. Sweeping symphonic passages, harsh industrial elements, highly proficient and memorable guitar work, and brutal guttural vocals mixed with soaring cleans are all blended in many ways to put forth a truly unique and powerful musical experience.

“Incorporating old school sci-fi visual elements with choppy electronics, catchy guitar parts and perfectly timed kick drums, this track (Parallel Projection) is a synth metal blast!” – Metal Injection

“A symphonic technical death metal masterpiece with an amazing concept to keep you engaged from start to finish \m/” – Heavy New York

“Now for some nerd shit. Technotheism is a concept record about the future that at it’s core is a melodic death metal record, but the band dabbles with electronic elements, technicality, and grand orchestrations throughout. Fans of Last Chance To Reason and really any band Mike Semesky (Ordinance, Raunchy, etc) has been a part of will probably dig this.” – Metal Injection

“This is a grandiose affair, full of musicality, technicality, and narrative. Thirteen tracks of symphonic melodic death metal that tells a cyberpunk story of a group of rebels fighting to regain control of Earth. It ranges from technical guitar work to atmospheric electronic passages, and just about everything in between.” – The Prog Space

“I love hearing something ambitious and genre-bending when a band can follow through on their vision.  The Design Abstract is one such band, one that had an idea and put it together almost flawlessly… This album is every bit as diverse, colorful, and epic as I had hoped, and there are jaw-dropping moments galore.  I absolutely love this record.” – The Prog Mind

“The Design Abstract goes for a big symphonic style in extreme metal, with a few twists and surprises along the way. Fans of the dystopian and/or futuristic sounds may find the album especially interesting. The Design Abstract is the symphony that remains after the alien zombies have taken over and this is the music that they want the world to hear to remind everyone that the zombies are horrible beings that enjoy tormenting the population with grandiose cacophony. When can the party begin, right?” – Metal Bulletin Zine

Atlantic Canada’s Bone Tower is a fresh band, birthed this year in February, and they came together with one aim, to put the emotions from the surging global crisis into a tight, aggressive EP. The second single is “Under A Veil”, which is the angriest track on the EP. The band explains it in further detail:

“This song is pissed. There is more than one meaning, but it’s really written about the perception that you are always in the wrong, that who you are is a made-up persona, you aren’t good enough, and you should be exiled from everything positive in your life. This feeling couldn’t be further from the truth, and it is simply anxiety creeping in to say hello; A flurry of notes and blast beats being thrown at you really like to drive that idea deep into your head, though. Cower away under a veil of delusion.”

According to them, if this record doesn’t disorient you, stress you out, or give you a headache then they fucked up. The eight tracks span just over nine minutes but each one is full of chaos that pummels the listener straight away. There is no filler, no breaks, just a relentless barrage of blast beats, coarse vocals, and punishing riffs. It’s what whiplash sounds like.

This is the first project where Jonas DeViller (vocals/electronics/lyrics) writes lyrics and he says that the lyrics are mostly inspired by the irrational, negative thoughts that tend to get stuck in the back of his mind, disregarding what reality really looks like. He tried to be blunt and straight-to-the-point while presenting multiple meanings and several different ways of interpretation.

This is just the beginning for Bone Tower as they already are working on a follow-up record. Loud and noisy, they are recommended for fans of Pig Destroyer, Cryptopsy, and Atka.

“Under A Veil” can be heard via its premiere on Metal-Rules HERE.

The EP “We All Will Die One Day” will drop on November 5, 2021 via No Funeral Records & Fresh Outbreak Records.

About:
Bone Tower got its start early in 2021, with the sole purpose of channeling built-up negative energy and creating a hectic, pissed-off sounding record. Hailing from Atlantic Canada they got straight to the point through pummeling angry death metal.

Bone Tower is the musical equivalent of the chaos ensuing globally since last year. An angry jab back at the universe for anyone who was angry and watched the world unfold with racial upheaval, conservatives and conspiracists coming out of the woodwork against Covid, economic regression with millions losing jobs, the entire world changing beneath our feet, and for the politicians who claimed to be on our side but continue to fight against the truth.

The trio of Jonas DeViller (vocals/electronics/lyrics), Sean Carroll (guitar/bass), and Michael Bowers (guitar/bass/vocals) is a seasoned one at that and they were able to quickly write and produce their debut EP ‘We All Will Die One Day’ in two weeks. It came together as a whole very quickly and organically.

This is just the start for Bone Tower, they already have a follow-up record in the works. As of now, they are mostly a recording project but they intend on eventually playing shows. When they do finally play live, it’s bound to be just as fucked up as the recording.

EP ‘We All Will Die One Day’ is due out November 5, 2021.
