Caveat have a new album coming out, their first since 2016 and they are fully intending to give their fans a very nuanced listening experience with “Alchemy”. Never content to pigeonhole themselves into a single genre or follow any conventional rules, through this album, they deliver an auditory adventure, a wide scope of twists and turns with a goal for the listener to consistently expect the unexpected throughout the listening experience.

The title track “Alchemy” is one of the proggier songs on the album, and it shows off Amanda Marie Bourden’s powerhouse voice as well as Matt Petti’s incredible bass performance. This song deals with addiction and how we are in search of the magic elixir (in so many cases alcohol) that will make us a perceived better version of ourselves, which in almost every case turns out to be the opposite. The band explains further:

“The title track from the new album, Alchemy travels into new territory for Caveat, with Amanda taking on lead vocal duties for most of the song and showcasing some of our most ambitious writing to date. With an almost soundtrack vibe of musically dynamic nuances, “Alchemy” creates a progressive listening experience unlike any other you’ve ever heard. New, exciting, refreshing and poised to bring Caveat’s new sound to both new and old audiences alike.”

When Caveat first started, almost two decades ago, the songs were almost exclusively written by guitarist/vocalist Greg Musgrave. Since then, guitarist Joe Sikorski has become integral in the songwriting alongside Musgrave, with drummer Casey Rogers offering musical ideas and arrangements as well. Musgrave’s lyrics primarily come from a darker place and one of overcoming personal adversity and demons that provide a cathartic vehicle to express and purge those inner demons.

“Alchemy” is recommended for fans of Opeth, Cynic, and Devin Townsend.

The single “Alchemy” can be heard via its premiere on SonicPerspectives HERE.

The full album is being released on February 11, 2022.

About:

Caveat was formed in mid-2001 by founding members Greg Musgrave on guitar and vocals, Jawad Baloch on drums & Terry Baldwin on bass & backing vocals. Shortly afterward Casey Rogers was asked to join as the new drummer of Caveat. This lineup would go on to record and release the debut album ‘The Biggest Secret’, which they released on May 14th of 2003.

After supporting the album, Caveat decided to expand and recruited Joe Sikorski in 2004 to the second guitar, who had been playing with Thorazine since the mid-’90s.

During 2005 Caveat partnered up with Scarab Productions to record and release a self-titled EP, which ended up landing on numerous campus radio charts and found the band playing larger shows than ever before. After parting ways with Scarab Production in late 2006, the sound of the band evolved yet again, writing more progressive and technical sounding songs, resulting in their 2007 magnum opus full-length album entitled ‘Red’.

To release ‘Red’ Caveat partnered up with Toronto-based indie record label Cyclone Records. To the band’s delight, ‘Red’ was very well received in the metal community and the band played more than ever in & around Western Canada.

Just prior to the release of ‘Red’ several members would branch off and form the deathgrind side project Exit Strategy with Shane Hawco (ex-Thorazine). Exit Strategy quickly became popular in the Western Canadian extreme metal scene. In 2008, after a successful several-year run, Caveat would elect to go into indefinite hiatus to focus on Exit Strategy.

Five years later saw the brief reformation of the band when Calgary Metalfest organizer ‘Big’ Nate Reno asked Caveat to reform to play the inaugural festival in the summer of 2013, and the band obliged. Original bassist Terry Baldwin elected to not be involved with the reunion show, so Caveat turned to former Verbal Deception and current Illuminated Minerva bass player Matt Petti to handle bass duties for the Metalfest performance. After that short hiatus, the band officially reformed at the end of 2014 with Matt Petti replacing Terry Baldwin permanently on bass duties.

Songwriting began for a new album while playing a handful of shows and several metal festivals across western Canada. Recording began in May 2015 and the new album entitled ‘Consummation’ was released on June 24th, 2016. ‘Consummation’ was also a moment of further evolution of Caveat, as local musician Amanda Marie Bourden was asked to join the band as keyboard player and second lead vocalist. Amanda accepted the invitation, and her powerful vocals were featured throughout ‘Consummation’ providing a great contrast to Greg’s clean & brutal vocal attack.

In 2017 and 2018, writing commenced for the album and would feature new vocalist Amanda as more of the primary voice in the new material. This culminated into the most diverse ambitious collection of songs to date. Then in late 2019, recording began for the new album with both Joe and Casey handling main production duties this time. Production was completed in late 2020, but due to the Covid pandemic-related shutdowns, the band decided to shelve its release for the duration of 2021 as a result.

Now Caveat’s delayed fifth album, entitled ‘Alchemy’, is for release in early 2022, and once again Caveat promises to deliver a majestic metallic assault on the senses. Stay tuned and expect the unexpected.

Album and Live Band Line Up:
Amanda Marie Bourdon: Vocals & Keyboards
Greg Musgrave: Guitar & Vocals
Joe Sikorski: Guitars
Matt Petti: Bass
Casey Rogers: Drums

Rockshots Records: Finnish Rockers SERPICO Drops Power Ballad “Dark Energy”

New Album “The Chosen Four” Coming Summer 2022

Finnish sleazy rockers Serpico are unveiling the power ballad “Dark Energy”, which will be featured on their forthcoming album “The Chosen Four” due out summer 2022 via Rockshots Records. The album is produced by platinum-selling Finnish record producer Anssi Kippo (Children of Bodom, Hanna Pakarinen, Teräsbetoni) who had this to add about the track.

“From the very first demo version, this song stood out by having something magical! Usually, with a song like this, you’d stack a huge wall of guitars, record dozens of backing vocals and at least as many keyboards. On Dark Energy, we took a completely opposite approach and ended up having a wall of just two rhythm guitars, only one keyboard and a single vocal track. With a song of this magnitude, any additional tracks would simply have decreased its magic.”

The music video for “Dark Energy” was directed by Ville Juurikkala and brings the band into a whole new light. Enthusiasm for Serpico‘s music paved the way for the collaboration with Juurikkala who is best known for his works with Slash, Steven Tyler, HIM, Michael Monroe, 69Eyes, Apocalyptica, Nightwish and many more.

“Serpico has some great authentic and rough rock’n’roll both as human beings and in music. I couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to work with them!” adds Juurikkala.

“Dark Energy” can be watched and hard at the following links:

Music Video – https://youtu.be/QGrafd0gm4M
Digital Stream – https://bfan.link/dark-energy

Since Serpico‘s inception in 2005, they have released two full-lengths “Rose Tattoo” (2018), ‘Shallow Mistress” (2014), and an EP “Bad Commercial” (2011) along with touring all over Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, and England. The band is genuine and unique Rock n’ Roll with big respect for the classic titans.

0 M-Theory Audio: HELSOTT Unveil Single/Video For Title Track “Will and the Witch” Off Upcoming Album Out Spring 2022

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 19, 2022

M-Theory Audio: HELSOTT Unveil Single/Video For Title Track “Will and the Witch” Off Upcoming Album Out Spring 2022

California’s Helsott are kicking off 2022 with their first single and the title track off their forthcoming concept album “Will and the Witch,” mixed and mastered by J-F Dagenais (Kataklysm, Ex Deo), being released this spring through M-Theory Audio. Since their incarnation in 2019, Helsott have amassed a respectable discography including two EPs and two full-lengths. They have toured throughout North America and Europe along with performing on several festivals including Wacken Open Air.

On this new record, Helsott goes back to their roots along with adding orchestrations composed by the band. Overall, “Will and the Witch” will have more thrashy elements and fewer orchestrations than their previous work, which results in a bit less complexity than earlier albums, yet keeps the essence intact while catching listeners off guard with new influences befitting of the album’s theme, but maintains the group’s underlying core that definitely is still Helsott. Vocalist Eric Dow explains further:

“The album is a concept recording. It’s basically a fan fiction story about how Billy The Kid became the fastest gunfighter in the wild west. There are southern vibes with banjo and fiddle. There are Native American vibes with hand drums and flute. There is thrash metal, power metal, death metal, and even acoustic campfire parts. We think there are enough flavors on this album to keep any listener engaged and wanting to listen over and over again. The title track explores the relationship between the two main characters on the album. Musically it’s melodic and thrashy, but also catchy and fun so I think this is a great song to introduce the listener to the full-length.”

The video for “Will And The Witch,” created by Raf Ortega (Ayreon, Subterranean Masquerade) can be viewed on YouTube – https://youtu.be/Gok7aEiO1Ys

Heavy, and eclectically enchanting, Helsott weave tales from mythology and history and are recommended for fans of Amon Amarth, Ensiferum, and Moonsorrow.

The full album “Will and the Witch” is expected in May 2022 and will feature a roster of many special guests.

About:
Formed February 2010, Helsott, meaning “Fatal Illness” in Old-Norse, are a Pagan Death Metal band from southern California. The band proudly pays homage to pagan cultures and ancient mythologies while keeping true to their American influences.

In 2011 Helsott won a Battle of the Bands competition in southern California and their prize was time in the Vault Recording Studio in Temecula, California. They recorded their first EP titled “Folkvangr” and self-released it in early 2012. In 2013 the band embarked on their first North American tour as part of the Paganfest festival tour line-up which included Ensiferum, Tyr, Heidevolk, and Trollfest which included a performance on the main stage at the New England Metal and Hardcore Fest. In 2014 the band successfully crowd-funded their debut full-length album, “Woven,” which was self-released to great reviews all over the world. 2015 saw the band touring the U.S. again on a summer headlining tour in support of “Woven” and a fall tour supporting Arkona and Heidevolk.

In 2016 Helsott recorded their follow-up EP titled “The Healer” which was recorded in part at Trench Studios and mixed and mastered by J-F Dagenais (Kataklysm/Ex Deo). January 2017 Helsott signed to M-Theory Audio, begun by former Century Media USA president Marco Barbieri. In May of 2017, Helsott embarked on their first European tour in support of I Am Morbid featuring members of Morbid Angel, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and Metal Church. In June 2017 Helsott toured the west coast with Tennger Cavalry and Felix Martin. In August of 2018, Helsott embarked on their final tour headlining in support of “The Healer” EP alongside labelmates Sicocis and friends Malphas. Helsott also headlined the Maryland Folk Metal Fest on that tour. On October 12th, 2018, Helsott released their second full-length album “Slaves And Gods”, via M-Theory Audio. They toured the west coast with Arkona and Korpiklaani in direct support of the release. 2019 saw the band’s return to Europe playing the Wacken Winter Nights and Cernunnos Pagan festivals in February. In July they played the 30th anniversary of the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany. In the fall they toured Europe alongside Skyforger, Finsterforst, and Enisum on the Pagan Warriors Across Europe Tour.

In 2020 Covid-19 halted all of Helsott’s plans to play live and instead they recorded their 3rd full-length album, “Will And The Witch”, which is a concept album about the wild west gunslinger Billy The Kid. In 2021 Helsott re-signed with M-Theory Audio and will release the new album in the Spring of 2022. In 2022 Helsott is scheduled to play the Dark Troll Fest in Germany and they have been confirmed to play HRH Vikings in England.

0 Canada’s THUNDEROR (ft. members of Skull Fist) Release Title Track Single From Upcoming NWOTHM “Fire It Up”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 19, 2022

Canada’s THUNDEROR (ft. members of Skull Fist) Release Title Track Single From Upcoming NWOTHM “Fire It Up”

Debut Album “Fire It Up” Out Feb 25, 2022 via Boonsdale Records

Thunderor is a relatively new band, just having started up in the midst of the Covid pandemic when drummer JJ Tartaglia (Skull Fist) felt a calling to develop his singing and front his own band. He is joined by ex-Skull Fist bandmate Jonny Nesta and Oscar Rangel (Operus, ex-Annihilator) to create a heavy 80’s influenced power trio that knows how to rock fans. They are releasing their debut album “Fire It Up” this February, and now have a video up for the title track, which can be heard and viewed at https://youtu.be/6t_KqTq7OOE

“Fire It Up”, as the name suggests, is an up-tempo, cheery track with two different choruses, massive hooks, and invasive melody. The lyrics are about motorcycle riding, romance, and escape. It’s a fun song that will make you crave the energy of live gigs once again. JJ Tartaglia explains in further detail:

“It’s the title track from the record, so it’s the perfect one to release as a single. If you pay attention you’ll notice there are actually two different choruses that happen back-to-back throughout the song, so no shortage of hooks! The song is for those who feel a longing for escape; you can cure that with motorcycles and romance.”

Originally intended to be straight-up heavy metal, the final direction of the band took a turn when Tartaglia realized the best way to complement his singing would be to add synths to all the songs resulting in a fresh take on NWOTHM, that encompasses hard rock and AOR. Lyrically, the album is an adventure, complete with motorcycles, romance, and danger. It inspires you to go after your life and to never give up.

It’s an original album that has enough familiarity to be suitable for Skull Fist fans and a good dosage of innovation that will catch the ears of new listeners. Tartaglia also cites that being a singing drummer definitely adds a unique twist and will allow for a creative setup when they hit the stage.

The 80s-infused heavy metal is recommended for fans of Saxon, Twisted Sister and Skull Fist.

“Fire It Up” comes out on February 25th, 2022 via Boonsdale Records.

About:
THUNDEROR is an 80’s-infused heavy metal band formed in 2020. Featuring a lead-singing drummer and an all-star lineup, the Canadian power trio delivers hook-driven stadium-caliber songs with an untamed spirit.

Since 2019, drummer JJ Tartaglia had felt a calling, one which grew stronger each day. Being a member of several prominent metal bands over the last decade (most notably Skull Fist) and having essentially served as a disciple of heavy metal for many years, the time had come to take his quest even further. A new course was being charted for his musical mission. He would share a vision, a feeling… a message he could deliver only with his own voice.

Fueled by his passion for adventure, JJ began to work on drum arrangements and piano pieces that would become the skeletons of the Thunderor songs.

In 2020, with the addition of long-time bandmate Jonny Nesta on guitars, combined with JJ also composing on keys and vocals, songwriting began in full force and quickly yielded an album’s worth of material. Close friend and monster player Oscar Rangel (ex-Annihilator) was then called upon to do bass and the line-up was complete. Thunderous drums, lightning hot guitar licks, dreamy synths, and piercing vocals would form the musical storm that is THUNDEROR.

The band would spend the next year self-recording the album, priding themselves on recording the natural way, producing an energetic record with a strong human connection. Fall of 2021 would see the release of the 1st single HOW WE ROLL, immediately garnering a worldwide audience. The debut album FIRE IT UP is set for an early 2022 release backed by an European tour.

If you’ve ever felt a longing for escape, a thirst for adventure, wrapped in romance and danger, well what are you waiting for? Get after it and let THUNDEROR be your soundtrack!

CHOREOMANIC (PESTILENCE Bassist Joost van der Graaf’s Experimental Prog/Funk Project) Posts Playthrough “Off With The Figurehead”

Playthrough Video Premiere via Bass Magazine

Self-Titled Debut Out February 18, 2022

CHOREOMANIC is the experimental prog / funk project created by PESTILENCE bassist Joost van der Graaf. Set to unleash its debut self-titled album on February 18, 2022, Graaf is sharing his latest bass playthrough for the track “Off With The Figurehead” with its premiere on Bass Magazine HERE.

“I somehow have trouble with figureheads in general, this is pretty much an instrumental thrash song. Enjoy!” adds Graaf.

CHOREOMANIC saw the light when the world came to a halt in spring 2020 due to the Covid pandemic. With canceled tours and no local gigs, musician Joost van der Graaf (Pestilence, Dew-Scented, I CHAOS) started writing music in which different influences from his past came together.

“I had just joined Pestilence and was busy with the material, preparing for a beautiful US tour with Possessed. Then the pandemic struck. Tour canceled everything on hold. I suddenly had a lot of time on my hands with all the other work canceled as well (music school closed, no more local gigs) so I decided to record a punk album to get rid of some of the frustration and anger that had built up inside. What I started writing had little to do with punk though… It was pretty spontaneous from the start and all I knew was that I wanted to create heaviness without any guitars.” says Graaf.

Somewhere halfway through the material, Graaf got the crazy idea to incorporate horns. He had never written music for horns ever before so he started experimenting with that.

“That’s probably the greatest joy when creating music: having no idea what you’re doing! Being pleasantly surprised by the total sound, I decided to stay on this path. It resulted in something I never thought I would ever do, but apparently, I just did…. Why not go all the way then? Honestly? I’m not even sure there ARE any fans for this, but I do know that listeners of Pestilence for instance, or of one of the other death metal bands I was part of, will probably be a bit surprised at least. I like to think that crazy people (like myself) will appreciate this.” adds Graaf.

As soon as the material was ready to record, Graaf reached out to some great musician friends to help him complete the project. He recruited drummer Koen Herfst (VandenBerg, I CHAOS, Dew-Scented), keyboardist Thijs Ronteltap (Disuse, Epistulum), saxophonist Tommie Freke (Gallow Street), trombonist Jeroen Verberne (Sjef’s Special) along with trumpeter and bugler Gidon Nunes Vaz. Once the full-length was mixed and mastered at Nutsville Noiselab, The Hague, the self-titled debut “CHOREOMANIC” was a fact and ready to take on the world.

The album features twelve bass-orientated tracks experimenting in realms of prog, funk, and everything else on the planet that has musically inspired Graaf over his thirty-plus year career. The full length’s lyrical concept explores Choreomania, an uncontrollable urge to dance, especially in a frenzied, convulsive manner also known as the Medieval Dancing plagues. Graaf explains in further detail:

“In 2019, I became pretty obsessed by the mysterious dancing plagues of the middle-ages. I started reading different studies, learning about the different theories about the cause. It’s still one of the biggest unsolved mysteries in history! One of the theories that made the most sense to me is that people had been suppressed by the ruling class (church, inquisition) for generations. There was collective fear of God and let’s not forget about the black plague! So there was this anxiety relief at a certain point that became infectious and caused convulsions and psychotic dancing, resulting in exhaustion, dehydration, and even death. It spread across Europe and there were large gatherings in towns and villages with frantically dancing people, accompanied by traveling musicians and all kinds of interested parties. These things sometimes became true festivals with people selling food, etc. With today’s reality, the phenomenon seems to have become relevant once again! This project is not only a musical statement, but also a call to action against (cultural) oppression. May everyone move and create in freedom!”

Recommended for fans of Mr. Bungle, Zappa, John Zorn, Infectious Grooves, and Brian Setzer Orchestra, CHOREOMANIC is due out February 18, 2022.

“The three songs have the rage, heaviness and some rawness you expect from thrash, but also the melody and speed you’ll find in the more aggressive and harsher forms of power metal (no flowery stuff here, people). Pete’s vocals definitely are more of the aggressive heavy/power metal variety while Marlee shakes the hell out of the speakers with a more aggressive and harsher, yet high-pitched style.” – The Metal Crypt (2022 – Self-Titled EP)

“This is the kind of band that really plays that pure, raw, seething thrash metal that I love.” – Wings of Death (2022 – Self-Titled EP)

“Classic heavy thrash, catchy quick stuff with big screamy vox! Great stuff!” – WORT 89.9FM – Mosh Pit Radio – Madison, WI (2022 – Self-Titled EP)

“The EP thunders around the listener’s ears with a massive, powerful sound and gripping guitar riffs, but is also arranged with great attention to detail. Geoff Waye also acts as lead guitarist in the melodic as well as brute playing with pinpoint accuracy… Thrash fans who expect more than just head banging should remember the name TRISKELYON.” – PowerMetal.de (2022 – Self-Titled EP)

“What does Melodic Thrash sound like? Well in the eyes (and ears) of Geoff Waye it sounds like Thrash with influences of Traditional Metal, so you have plenty of heavy chugging Thrash riffs, separated by Traditional Metal bridges and big choruses. Opening cut “Hunger” sounds like a classic Anthrax cut from the “Spreading The Disease” era, with Iron Maiden influences all over it and Pete Healey’s higher pitched vocals only enhancing that nostalgic feel.” – Metal Noise (2022 – Self-Titled EP)

Triskelyon is a Canadian melodic thrash metal project created by Geoff Waye, guitarist for Artach and Category VI. Conceived in late 2021 as a studio-only project, the first self-titled EP is set for release on January 25, 2022.

Triskelyon features the contributions of various vocalists. The vocalists and musicians that featured on the EP include vocalist Pete Healey and Marlee Ryley (Hyperia), along with drum programming by Raul Marques (Burning Torment).

===========================================

The EP as a whole explained by Geoff Waye.

The music is straight to the point. No dicking around with breakdowns, no long drawn out solos, just get straight into it and let the headbanging commence. The EP’s tracks are therefore not long but get right into it. I tried to make the chorus more antithetic and memorable. Melodic solos. Speed. Etc.

Track by track explained by Geoff Waye.

1. Hunger: This EP opener is a statement. It starts with no buildup just straight into the fun speedy thrash riffage. This was also the first song I wrote for this project. After I had it written and got the drums done, I knew I was onto something. The song is about a hunger for change in the world. I am not a fan of the way the world is heading in terms of politics, divisions, and how stuck in their ways and traditions people are.  The chorus line “It’s the time for the fearless to rise. A hunger for change in their eyes.” gets to the theme and heart of the song’s idea.

2. Find A Way: This is the more melodic of the three and has a bit more groove. It’s about my life in a way with lyrics about feeling somewhat isolated from the pandemic….even tho the song itself is not at all about the pandemic. It’s just a song about feelings and finding my way through it all.

3. Odyssey (Blessed by Steel): This is the fastest and most intense song on the EP. It’s speedy and full-throttle thrash. The lyrics are again personal and about my musical life journey as told through using song references which an astute listener might pick up on a few of them.

Story Angles / Fun Facts:

1.  Triskelyon is a deliberate misspelling of the word “triskelion”. It is defined as follows: “A triskelion or triskeles is an ancient motif consisting of a triple spiral exhibiting rotational symmetry. … The actual triskeles symbol of three human legs is found especially in Greek antiquity, beginning in archaic pottery, and continued in the coinage of the classical period.”  It has different meanings, but the one that spoke to me is the concept of forwarding movement and not standing still….some of the ideas that found their way into the lyrics for “Find a Way”.

2. Pete and Geoff were in a Newfoundland based band together in the early 2000s called Oberon.

3. Triskelyon is a solo project yet the door is open to collaboration with others.

With two well-received singles out already, Circa Arcana are putting out a lyric video for “The Tower” off their upcoming EP entitled “Bridget Vīgintī”. The five tracks on the record take inspiration from the occult and tarot, exemplified in the track names. The “arena metal” track “The Tower” is no exception, and tells one hell of a story as you listen closely to its lyrics. Guitarist Johny Serna explains it in further detail:

“The song ties in clean ambient hooks with a melodic chorus, a plethora of synth and string production and finishes with a death punch of a breakdown. It really shows off the multitude of influences based within our music and captures a little of everything for the listener to enjoy! The song started off with the opening lead. Originally all I had written was probably the first 30 seconds to the track and after I showed the rest of the guys we quickly figured out a pattern for it and knocked it out. Frankie actually came up with that breakdown for it, still one of my favorites. The entire song is a headbanger from start to finish. Personally, my favorite thing about this song is when we play it live people can easily catch on to the chorus and sing along.”

The lyric video for “The Tower” can be viewed and heard at https://youtu.be/cJAJkIQZfVY

Single streaming on Spotify.

Over the course of Circa Arcana‘s forthcoming EP “Bridget Vīgintī”, there is a bit of everything, from groovy melodic parts to catchy choruses and hard-hitting breakdowns, definitely something for everyone. Circa Arcana works well together, having had a similar musical vision from the start and quickly getting used to writing and doing things online because of the Covid pandemic. They look to keep their breakdowns heavy and aggressive and contrast that with catchy clean vocals that are easy to pick up and sing along to.

Being five seasoned musicians, Circa Arcana are dedicated to putting on a tight and engaging live show and have already been getting out on stages. They always try to up the ante and throw in different things for each show so no other is like the next.

A little bit melodic to offset the heavy, Circa Arcana is recommended for fans of Blessthefall, Wage War and Like Moths To Flames.

The EP “Bridget Viginti” will be available on all digital platforms on February 18, 2022 .

“Do you like melodic metalcore? If you do, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy what Texas metalcore band Circa Arcana are doing with their newest single, “Esoteric”. Formed last year during the COVID-19 pandemic, you might not think it a good time for a new band to form, but art often flourishes during the darkest times. It’s no different for Circa Arcana – the band is currently finishing their first EP entitled Bridget Viginti, slated for later release in 2022. A decent comparison might be mid-period Killswitch Engage, It Dies Today, or even the underrated Diecast album Internal Revolution, as the band’s combination of bright melodies and aggression will fit right at home to fans of that style.” – New Fury Media

“Circa Arcana may have gotten started last year, but some of the members have been around in the El Paso for a WHILE. Their sound has compared to It Dies Today, I See Stars, Blessthefall & Howard Jones-era Killswitch Engage.” – Daniel Paulus – KLAQ 95.5 FM – El Paso, TX

Canada’s My Hollow has a new album coming out entitled “Fighting The Monsters”, which they are anxious to release upon the world this year. Taking inspiration from modern death metal bands, they are continuously evolving and this next release from them is no exception.

The first single “Vultures”, being premiered on Metal Injection, came about when guitarist Greg Gallagher set out to write something heavy based on a black metal fast tremolo guitar riff that, as he puts it, just totally crushed. This was one of the more difficult songs for him to write, but the finished product made the struggle completely worthwhile. Humorous and lighthearted, the video contrasts the pummeling drums and harsh riffs throughout the song, making the single heavily engaging both visually and sonically.

The video for the single was created by Jennifer White, the wife of vocalist Graham. She created all of the puppets, props and backgrounds by hand, all while serving as de facto director for the video. The band explains further:

“The music video for ‘Vultures’ was single-handedly designed and created by Graham’s amazing wife and very talented tattoo artist, Jennifer White. She has been creating our artwork for almost as long as we’ve been a band. Jen and Graham went over the details and she came back with a storyboard complete with different acts and scenes and it was clear at that moment that her talents were definitely not limited to static artwork. Then we saw the puppets she had created to go along with the storyboard; she poured hours into it and we think it turned out amazing. The level of detail in these puppets was way more than we were expecting, and it’s so cool to see ourselves represented as puppets.”

“Fighting The Monsters” was mixed and mastered by Tyler Williams at Monolithic Productions and the artwork was done by Jennifer White. It is recommended listening for fans of Chimaira, Gojira, and Lamb of God.

“Vultures” can be viewed and heard via its premiere on Metal Injection HERE.

“Fighting The Monsters” is slated for release this coming Spring 2022.

About:
hollow: (1) a place or area that is lower than the area around it.
(2) an empty space inside of something.

The definitions of the word hollow describe My Hollow fittingly. With intense riffs and passages seamlessly giving way to lower, heavier parts in a lock-up, chunked out style with mutes leaving empty space in an otherwise chaotic sequence.

Based out of the Toronto area, My Hollow boasts a cast of independent metal journeymen, hungry to be heavier, tighter and more engaging with every song. Applying advice and drawing experience from performing alongside some of Canada’s biggest metal exports; The Agonist, Cryptopsy, Threat Signal, Beneath The Massacre among others. My Hollow as a whole can draw from a multitude of influences, not only from metal but from other genres as well, reflected in both their recorded releases as well as their live performance. Described by Danish webzine Power Of Metal as “five pissed off Canadians ready to tear my head off!” As well as “all the subtlety of a two-ton anvil slamming down on a set of pearly whites” by US based heavy metal blog, Heavy Metal Time Machine.

My Hollow has two official releases, 2012’s ‘Cold Dark Days EP’ featuring four demo versions of songs which were reworked and reimagined on 2014’s ‘On Borrowed Time’ full length release featuring My Hollow’s most refined and focused work to date.

Like any band, My Hollow has had its highs and lows. Being selected as a finalist for the annual Wacken Metal Battle Canada 2013 solidified My Hollow as one of Toronto’s, as well as Canada’s top metal acts and announced themselves to a broader spectrum of listeners. Although narrowly missing out on a spot to perform in Germany at heavy metal’s premier festival the experience proved to strengthen the bands resolve and galvanize their confidence in the process.

While the band’s recorded releases give the listener an idea of what My Hollow is about, the live performance is where My Hollow truly shine. “With a crushing wave of energy, and sound, My Hollow filled the venue with their effervescent presence. The lads never disappoint on stage,” is how Toronto based metal publication Metal Master Kingdom described their experience.

With a new EP “Fighting The Monsters”, which includes guest vocals from Bjorn Strid (Soilwork) due out in 2022 and an ever-evolving sound and live performance, My Hollow strive to become an ever-present staple in the Canadian and global metal scene and will stop at nothing to leave you hollow, and wanting more.

Discography:
2022 – Fighting The Monsters (EP)
2020 – iSolation (Single)
2018 – And Now We Fall (Single)
2015 – On Borrowed Time (LP)
2013 – Cold Dark Days (EP)

Shared Stage with:
The Agonist, Beyond Creation, Cryptopsy, Soilwork, Unearth, Battlecross, Fit For An Autopsy, Wretched, War Of Ages, SkullFist, Neck Of The Woods, Operus, Kill Devil Hill, Vital Remains, Warbringer, Beneath The Massacre. Rockshots Records – Cosmic Metal VANDERLUST Shares Space Ballad “The Last Ganymedian”

Debut Self-Titled Album Out April 15, 2022

Cosmic metallers VANDERLUST (ft. members of S91, Dreal) will be rocketing their self-titled debut album on April 15th, 2022 via Rockshots Records.

Inviting fans into their universe with their first single “Scavengers of Kuiper Belt” this past December, the space musicians are ready to share their next musical constellation entitled “The Last Ganymedian”, which is one of the two ballads on the album.

“It starts like a country-acoustic song (played by acoustic guitar) and then goes into metal riffing. This is a 90’s oriented song, slow and grungy. No prog-technical parts but very dynamic vocals and epic atmospheres. The last Ganymedian… should we still consider him a human being?” adds the band.

Listen to “The Last Ganymedian” at the following links:

YouTube – https://youtu.be/qle1eChXEf8

Digital – https://bfan.link/vanderlust

Birthed to travel the cosmos, Italy’s Vanderlust is a power-heavy metal band with prog-thrash influences that tells tales of space travels, astronomy, space engineering, and sci-fi adventures.

“We tried to mix a prog-thrashy riffing in the roots of Megadeth, Vektor and Tool with epic vocal parts like Iron Maiden, Helloween, Angra, and Lione’s Rhapsody. We also put sci-fi elements in our songs, so you can hear also something from Voivod.” adds the band.

This debut recording is like a stellar system with 12 different planets. The star at the center of the system represents the heavy-power metal around all the songs revolving. Despite all the tracks being irradiated by the same light, they are all different from each other. Vanderlust has fast thrash, slow and doom, shiny and brilliant to grunge, and darker songs. Like planets, which appear like simple small bright spots, but in reality, are all big worlds, Vanderlust‘s songs are more complex than they sound at first listen. In fact, you can easily sing along to some of the choruses even if there are complex riffs in the background. Vanderlust is particularly proud of the participation of opera singer Letizia Cappellini who does vocals on select tracks and helps the band further expand the vocal register of their compositions. The band also adds the presence of synths and electronic elements to the compositions to set the sci-fi mood of the lyrics.

“The main goal was to start a metal band that could be an inspiration for young people, a band that could tell them stories from the future when mankind will have overcome its limits and the solar system will be an entire human colony. This idea came to mind to founding members Francesco and Santo when they began their search for other members that could fit. Drummer Giacomo Mezzetti joined the space odyssey right before the covid-19 outbreak. Vocalist Riccardo Morello joined the band during the first lockdown in Italy, so the first song was entirely composed online, using videocalls and file sharing.” adds the band.

For their live aspect, Vanderlust is currently working hard to create a thrilling spectacle, giving all their energy to the fans and letting them join them on the space journey.

Vanderlust is recommended for fans of Iron Maiden, Angra, Tool, Helloween, and Vektor.
