Crafting Progressive rock, industrial, and metal influences fused with his passion for classical composers such has J.S Bach and Antonio Vivaldi, guitarist Kevin Estrella is carving a new musical direction that few dare to attempt with his solo project PYRAMIDS ON MARS. Written all by Estrella from the guitars, bass and drums, his latest effort ‘Echo Cosmic’ is an impressive ten track journey to follow up his 2013 self-titled debut album. With an ear for melody, and natural use of odd time signatures blended with modern heavy guitar riffs and the sound of classic 1970’s analog keyboards, your adventure of music from the Mystical Red Planet begins now with the release of an album trailer for ‘Echo Cosmic’ due out on September 8, 2015.

About:

Inspired the by the studies of UFOs, aliens and the artifacts of in our solar system, PYRAMIDS ON MARS is an embodiment of spacey music that brings  both worlds together as both a musical concept, and message to the world of the alien presence. Formed in 2011, PYRAMIDS ON MARS is the solo creation of guitarist Kevin Estrella who offers an aural palette of intense, emotional, 3-dimensional, heavy and melodic progressive rock/ metal that includes a range of influences such as Baroque classical guitar, classical composers J.S Bach and Antonio Vivaldi along with today’s guitar virtuosos Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani.

Estrella’s latest effort under the PYRAMIDS ON MARS name is ‘Echo Cosmic’ set for release on September 8, 2015 to follow 2013’s full length self-titled debut

“I honestly think “Echo Cosmic” will do for this decade what Joe Satrani’s ‘Surfing With The Alien’ did for instrumental rock back in the ’80’s.  It captures the same passion, energy, and melodic hooks, yet it has an updated sound.  Heavier than Satriani though.  He is influenced mostly by the blues.  I am influenced by metal and classical music. I have always focused on melody.  Same with composers like J.S Bach and Antonio Vivaldi.  The masters of melody.  They are pretty much all I listen to.  So what I am doing on stage today, was the norm 300 years ago. ” comments Estrella.

Featuring ten tracks of emotionally high energy music that mostly came to life in Estrella’s dreams over the last two years, the album as whole pays homage to some of Estrella’s biggest influences while still staying true to himself and his own creations.

“On Echo Cosmic, I wanted to put more emphasis on the rhythm guitars, bass and drums.  The keyboards are still there, but they play more second fiddle sort of speaking.  Some songs are stripped right down to just bass, drums and lead guitar. I wanted this album it to be more in your face with less clutter.” says Estrella.  “The writing on this album is also inspired by the bands I love the most.  I love so many bands and love so many styles.  So, I tend to write in whatever style I want to. There are so many other band styles I want to explore.  I am probably one of the most unique bands out there that I have no one particular ‘sound’.  But all the songs have a common thread/element that identifies them as being Pyramids On Mars.  I think I have an advantage others do not have, because I can transform like a chameleon.” says Estrella.

Track by Track Breakdown of Echo Cosmic explained by PYRAMIDS ON MARS’ Kevin Estrella:
“To summarize, the overall story line of ‘Echo Cosmic’ is about mankind’s history of broadcasting radio and tv signals for over 100 years from earth to space.  Theoretically, some of these signals should be picked up by alien civilizations.  We are announcing our existence through this cosmic echo we are sending out.  We may be an insignificant species in a vast universe, but we are leaving a footprint that has infinite infuence.” comments Estrella.
1. Dream Division:  The whole introduction I heard in a dream.  Started off simply with guitar, but got more interesting when the bass and drums join in and are all doing something different from each other.  But it all worked.  Almost like division. Thus the name.
2.Battle for Rome:  Influenced by the X-Box One game trailer Ryse Son of Rome.  Watch the trailer, and you can imagine this song playing in it.

3. Death Valley Driver:  The main rhythm guitar and drums were bedtracks for this song.  Reminded me of driving fast on a desert road.

4. Tribute:  I was experimenting with some ’80’s guitar tone presets.  Improvising, I played the main rhythm part.  It sounded like something Randy Rhoads would play.  Decided to write a song dedicated to him.

5. Heaven’s Gate:  Influenced by a band who has a a dead guy with leather skin for a mascot.

6. Sailing the Ocean’s of Neptune:  Heard the main riff in my head for weeks.  Finally wrote the song.  Had a real Hendrix feel to it, with a large Extreme influence.

7. Spectre of Orion:  A song originally written in a band I used to be in called Omega Factor which consisted of just me and a drummer

8. Order of the Freemasons:  Song written back in 2011.  A very dark song about a dark subject.  It is more a work of art rather than being a radio friendly song.  A song I am very proud of.

9. Occam’s Razor:  A fast, thrash metal song with sharp, jagged teeth.  You will hear  at least three metal band influences in this one!

10. Echo Cosmic:  The flagship of the CD.  A song that creates a feeling of loneliness and isolation.  That which we are in this vast universe.

“If anything, it is taking the road less travelled – in this case, guitar-driven, instrumental music- that helps Pyramids on Mars stand out from the plethora of other groups vying for a piece of the prog rock pie.”   –  Canadian Musician Magazine

“Kevin Estrella, much like Vai, much like Satriani, can make his guitar truly communicate and display emotion. There’s a real passion that Kevin plays with that only comes along every so often…a real magic.  There could be a complete saturation with this type of instrumentally-driven music one day. I have the feeling that even IF this was to happen, Pyramids on Mars would STILL stand out miles from the rest.”  – Sleeping Bag Studios

“The music scene is very saturated with artists and bands pretty much doing the same thing (stylistically speaking).  With the current popularity of instrumental guitarists like Joe Satriani, there is a good possibility of instrumental rock coming back.  Pyramids on Mars have a niche market with very little competition that they can control the market share in that music genre.” Coalition Entertainment Management  Jesse Mitchell |Coalition Music

“And with influences like Metallica (probably post-black album), Jimi Hendrix, and Joe Satriani it is clear that Pyramids on Mars knows the kind of music they love, how to create their own version, and make us listeners enjoy it as much as they do.”  Metal Addicts

“The guitarist member is impressively high-quality.  His constant and non-stop lead work is where he shines.  Smooth, melodic, adapt and soaring lead after lead on song after song speaks of good soloing.  Kevin Estrella is in the same ballpark as David Gilmour.”  – Metallian

“Pyramids on Mars is a musical journey. Dizzying guitar work swiftly flying between genres and showing skill that few acts are capable of achieving in the country right now.”  Two Way Monologues

About:

Harnessing their crazy sense of humor and love of all things metal, vocalist Rob “Rawrb” Kersey and guitarist Josh “The J” Key joined forces with drummer Alex “Shmalex” Dontre and bassist  Matty J “Moose” to create Pyschostick, a band they’ve coined as humorcore. With hilarious lyrics, heavy riffs, notorious stage antics and high-energy performances, the band has caused millions of laughs around the world and hundreds of mosh pits across the US of A, often simultaneously, since its birth in Phoenix, AZ in 2000.

Now residing in Chicago, IL, with four full-length albums behind them – “We Couldn’t Think of a Title” (2006), their holiday album “The Flesh Eating Rollerskate Holiday Joyride” (2007), “Sandwich” (2009),  and “Space Vampires vs. Zombie Dinosaurs in 3D” (2011), the almost 100 percent do-it-yourself laugh factory, Psychostick returns with their signature sound (Chimaira, Machine Head and Hatebreed sexing Tenacious D and Weird Al Yankovic) to showcase their latest offering, the crowd funded album ‘IV: Revenge of The Vengeance’ (fan thank you video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSeQHqMCfJI) due out on November 4, 2014. Featuring a hilarious track listing that includes previously released singles the beard anthem ‘Obey The Beard’ and popular ‘Dog Like Socks’ plus new tracks such as ‘Quack Kills’, ‘So. Heavy’, ‘Blue Screen’, and a tribute to the 21st century’s most beloved action super hero ‘Bruce Campbell’. Psychostick are crazy to share with fans many more comedy sing-a-longs on the road and more!

– 30 –

“In a genre with a lot of anger, aggression and seriousness, every once in a while some levity is good. That’s wherePsychostick come in. Their fourth albumIV: Revenge Of The Vengeance is musically solid and lyrically amusing.” – Heavy Metal – About.com

“humorcore band Psychostick is like the Jerry Seinfeld of metal. On its fourth full-length release, IV: Revenge of The Vengeance, the band’s sound invokes similarities too oddball artists such as Mr. Bungle, GWAR, Primus, Green Jello, Scatterbrain and Austrian Death Machine, to name a few. On its 21 ridiculous tracks (including various short skits between songs), the band explores its brand of observational comedy mixed with brutal breakdowns. The band exceeds expectations by parodying popular culture, relationships and binge drinking.” – Bravewords

“Psychostick pulls the pin from a hand grenade and shoves it down the gullet of comedy. When it explodes, anyone within earshot finds themselves covered in the entrails of hilarity! These guys are off-the-chart insane. Imagine if the cast of “Jackass” formed a metal band with Andy Samberg, Sam Kinison, and Seth Rogen and then they threw a house party that made “Project X” look like amateur hour by comparison. Yeah, now you’re getting it!” – Axs

“I do like when bands like Pyschostick inject humour into songs and REVENGE OF THE VENGEANCE is pretty damn funny…The first single ‘Obey The Beard’ is magnificent and this is coming from a clean-shaven dude. It made me want to grow one. Comedy Metal fans can listen for a couple of inside Metal jokes (Captain Stupid!) and a cameo by ‘snaky’. The production is immaculate and as always these guys are as heavy as hell. Weird Al on crack. I wanted to use that phrase and I couldn’t even think how to work it into this review so I just dumped it here at the end. Humour is so subjective but I know what I like and I really like IV: REVENGE OF THE VENGEANCE.” – Metal Rules

“IV: Revenge of the Vengeance isn’t just a Psychostick album, it’s a Psychostick experience. They really went all out on this album. Not all of it makes sense and some of it may be a little over the top, but that’s what makes this band so great- they aren’t afraid to push the envelope of ridiculousness. In fact, they bask in it. Get ready, world. Get ready for the revenge of the vengeance and one of the most action-packed metal albums ever concocted. Rating: 9/10” – Front Row Report

“The creator of “Humorcore” knock one out of the fucking park with this one (IV: Revenge of The Vengeance). If you’re in a band trying to do parody and funny Metal songs stop right now, you’re just embarrassing yourself, you will not be able to dethrone Psychostick. ” – Rock Hard Place

“In ‘IV: Revenge of The Vengeance’ you have more craziness and beard than ever before, weighing in at a whopping twenty one beard bending tracks of strictly tongue in cheek craziness and general insanity with song titles ranging from ‘NSFW’, ‘Quack Kills’, ‘Loathe Thy Neighbor’ and the previously unleashed  ‘Dogs Like Socks’ and ‘Obey The Beard’ as well as a cover of Kenny Loggins ‘Danger Zone’. Add a couple of cameos from Bill Manspeaker, the founder of Green Jello and you can imagine the types of craziness that is unleashed once play is pressed. Simply put, ‘IV: Revenge of The Vengeance’ is beardtastic and in the words of Psychostick ‘Obey The Beard’.” – Firebrand After Darkness Mag

“make no mistake about it – these guys rock first and foremost, especially on this album’s standouts, the anthemic “Obey the Beard,” as well as “Dogs Like Socks,” which explores the complexities of canine/hosiery relations.” – Erie Reader

“There are so many little things that make this more than your run-of-the-mill laugh and enjoy album. For example, in the lyric book, for the song “Choking Hazard”, it simply displays the pamphlet image of what to do in the event of someone choking. This unpredictable, jokey style they incorporate spills over into their live show and after four albums, they show no wear and tear in their funny bone and no signs of decelerating those head banging riffs. I could ramble a little more, but you’re better off experiencing this yourself. So go buy it already.” – Media Mikes

“This new album features twenty-one tracks of skits and songs that will make you listen to it until you can catch all the references from pop culture, the metal scene, and moments of “did he just say what I think he said?” With the fast paced musings of being stalked by a water fowl in “Quack Kills” to “NSFW” that will never see airplay on your local radio station, the album covers a wide range of subjects in its lampooning. It is no wonder their fans, that have had three albums to delight them in metal geekiness and humor, have waited anxiously for this new release.” – National Rock Review

“Psychostick is not a metal parody band; they are a great metal band with funny songs. “IV: Revenge of the Vengeance” starts off with a movie style trailer that sets you up for the insanity that will follow. There are songs about Anatidaephobia  (which is the irrational fear that one is being watched by a duck), Bruce Campbell , and even a song the gives accurate information on how to help someone that is choking. The album also has some skits that introduce songs, my favorite being the one that introduces the song “So Heavy” in which the band tries to tune to H flat.” – Extreme Metal TV

“How fuck the Psychostick haven’t played in the UK recently I don’t know, I know so many people who love them here. The album is fierce and hilarious,, it remains a thrashy, compact masterpiece with chunky breakdowns and enriched madness. ” – Music Review Database

“Ha ha. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha!
Okay, give me a moment. I’m still chuckling every time I think of Psychostick’s latest 21 track album Revenge of the Vengeance. Every moment on it is filled with hilarity, from marrying beards, being afraid of ducks and then saving a crowd of people from a dimensional time portal. And I thought I’d heard it all…Tenacious D were the kings of comedy metal, but Rize of the Fenix has made it look like they’ve reached their hay day, as much as I love them. The king’s crown has to go somewhere, and for an album like this, it looks like Psychostick are next in line for the throne.” – Rock Revolt Magazine
