FARMAGEDDON Open Air / Prairie Fire Events Ltd To Present 2016 Metal Conference / Fest In Edmonton, AB

FARMAGEDDON, one of Western Canada’s loudest open air metal festivals for the last three years has announced they will be putting 2016’s event on hold to present a more intimate indoor showcase and conference in Edmonton, AB for late Spring 2016.

In order to present the conference / metal festival, Farmageddon organizers Prairie Fire Events LTD. are turning to crowd funding to help raise $10,000 to get this event off the ground.

Donations can be made at the following link: https://www.gofundme.com/c52gfkjr

In a video message, FOA representative Tyson Travnik explains: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHMdEye-4QI

pfe go fund me video #1

and also comments the following:

“Prairie Fire Events Ltd is the not-for-profit incorporation responsible for proudly organizing and operating the Farmageddon Open Air metal festival in Ryley, AB. Farmageddon Open Air was planned for 2015 to be a year that was built to be a milestone for the festival. However, the influx of exchange rates, foul weather, and a variety of other factors took its toll on the gross income of the festival.

The Farmageddon Open Air festival, among our other brethren Canadian metal festivals is designed to cater to the true heavy metal fan and the subculture that goes hand-in-hand with the music. Offering a hub for networking, a high-caliber live music experience, and a venue for fellowship are the top priorities, and main goals when it comes to the festivals hosted by Prairie Fire Events. That said, sustaining these festivals annually take a huge toll on those involved, both financially and physically. HOWEVER…we have no intention of stopping. Prairie Fire Events holds firm to our intention, that we will do everything in our power to create the most coveted metal festivals in Canada.
After much discussion, it has been decided that the Farmageddon Open Air festival will become an event that takes place every TWO years. This gives us more time to fund raise and promote the event. In its place during the off years, however, Prairie Fire Events is proud to announce that the early planning stages have begun for an indoor metal conference and festival! This festival will be held in the late spring of 2016, in premium venues located in Edmonton, Alberta.
As a sister festival of Farmageddon Open Air, a large goal behind this new festival is to bring the positive values and sense of family of the local metal scenes closer to the public eye, and assist in its discovery by new fans.
To obtain the funding needed to cement the backbone of these festivals for the upcoming years, we are reaching out to YOU for your support. Every penny counts, and we are humbled by your generosity. We can sincerely promise, that we will do our very best to invest all proceeds as wisely as possible to create events that lead to positive experiences that will stay memorable for years to come.
For all the latest info and updates on these 2 festivals, please visit us at Prairie Fire Events on Facebook.
Thanks again for all your support! We never forget who you are!
CHEERS!
Prairie Fire Events Ltd.”

About:

Farmageddon Open- Air was conceived in 2012 by Tyson Travnik whom is recognized in the Alberta metal scene through sound engineering duties and promotional services. After noticing the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise, Travnik wanted to re-create the intimate setting and host a festival with no internal borders in the Edmonton area.

After two very successful years, Farmageddon Open Air has proven to be one of the most prestigious metal open-air festivals in Canada with quality production that has been highly regarded by bands and patrons alike. The festival falls into a special category with Travnik setting goals of bringing in top-shelf bands that rarely, if ever play Canada. The costs of doing so are reflected in the ticket price with maximum attendance numbers not being something on the agenda. Keeping an intimate setting between the bands and their fans along with growth of the metal sub-culture to aid in promoting some of the hardest working bands in the country is at the forefront of Farmageddon’s priority.

Each year, the festival has hosted over 30 bands, with the request reaching as far as Europe and Asia. Farmageddon prides itself in only selecting the bands that the organizers feel have proven themselves worthy of the festival. This is not based on show attendance figures, but rather by judging the work ethic of the band throughout the previous year. With many new features and additions planned for Farmageddon 2015, organizers are pushing forward to double the attendance numbers from 2014.

Are you ready to embrace the end of the world… well Montreal-based five piece [EVERTRAPPED] are making sure you are as they have teamed up with MetalUniverse.net for the exclusive track premiere of ‘Embrace The End’, the fourth single from the band’s third album ‘Under The Deep’ (Hellstorm Recordz) due on October 16th to follow 2012’s Anomaly and 2010’s debut Tales From The Supermax

“Embrace The End: This is one of our tracks for the apocalypse, but more for the actual hour of the end itself. A look at almost coming to terms with the fact that it was likely the fault of humanity and embracing the acceptance of such evil.” comments vocalist James Brookes.

To listen to ‘Embrace The End’, please visit the following link:http://www.metaluniverse.net/nouvelles.php?id_nouvelle=24986

Delivering relentless brutal melodic death metal since 2007, [EVERTRAPPED]intentionally wrote their band name with enclosed brackets to signify the trappings of modern life for all of us and how people, despite their best attempts to break out of the mold are still affixed to a simple controlled existence and futility.

Members of the band bring together their collective experience from the Montreal metal scene to create their heavy brand of death metal. The guitarists Frederick Dupuis (ex-Daggerfalls) and Vincent Benoit hammer out raw guitar while drummer Eric Lemire (ex-Apocalypsys, ex-Ice Castle) pummels the drums. Their versatile frontman James Brookes (ex-Ammonia, ex-One Final Moment, Continuum) easily alternates between strong clear vocals and low bellowing screams giving listeners the illusion of more than one vocalist. John Yates (ex-AraPacis) weaves together each song with his driving bass lines to keep the punishing tracks energy at an all time high.

Lyrics are intentionally slightly abstract to lure fans to draw their own conclusions despite a perceived understanding of the tracks. Themes for the music revolve around personal turmoil and even stringing together the image of a future where the world is on the brink of an apocalypse.

The band’s influences range from Death Metal to Melodic Death primarily, along with some classic thrash and speed metal, which explains their technicality and diversity sonically. Live, the band is a whirlwind of aggression and sonically abrasive, yet sporadically melodic vocally and instrumentally.

About the album and track by track explained by Evertrapped.

Under The Deep is an exploration of the deepest reaches of human madness. Not clinical madness, but simply the darkest regions of the soul and the blackest part of the human heart from a mind found to be socially functional, but is really way too far gone. And thus it seeks to explore what is underneath the deepest depth, hence no matter how deep you descend there’s always another layer that can be torn away.

Tracks:

  1. […] intro
  1. Arise From The Ashes: A depiction of someone who has actually reached the bottom, so their rise from there so to speak. Like the king of their own universe broken by all clawing it’s back but fueled by an ever consuming hatred.
  1. Underneath The Deep: A personal look at how a person can only be fucked up by someone else for too long until they break. But this takes you to a point where you now can’t come back.
  1. Palace Of Injustice: A stab at anyone blinded by the indoctrination of any institution and their ultimate demise that likely follows due to their ignorance towards it. However, it does aim more at the disgust of the institutions themselves and not so much the ignorance of the people.
  1. Hypnotized By Hatred: Another personal reflection, but in this case more a person who has been made to believe that all they do is wrong. So it brings up the sense where if you tell someone enough times that they are shit, then eventually they will just believe it. And in this case someone who becomes a very dark god loathing individual because it takes them to a point where they think it’s hysterical.
  1. Blood Of The Fallen: This is set in a horror like context although it not some zombie tribute. It simply laughs at how we place so much importance on the memory of the dead yet never bat an eye at the reality of human suffering which we ourselves cause.
  1. Lethal District: Somewhat of a post apocalyptic view of the surviving factions of humanity that instill themselves as the powers that be, and thus cast out the unclean, unworthy, and so forth. And therefore it sheds light on the madness and revolt of the unwanted.
  1. Burning Through Vengeance: This is a straight up rebel song. A certain arrogant fuck you to a society that rejects you, but you still know that you know better than them. So instead you’ll bide your time and watch them hilariously screw themselves over.
  1. Reaper: As the title suggests, an end of the line type song. In a certain way captures the essence of[EVERTRAPPED] in terms of the inescapable event that is death.
  1. Embrace The End: This also goes more or less as the title suggests. This is another song for the apocalypse but more at the actual hour of the end itself. A look at almost coming to terms with the fact that it was likely the fault of humanity and embracing the acceptance of such evil.

“I will forever embrace quality underground Metal, especially underground Black Metal. Helleborus have without question, tapped into my Black Metal psyche with their new song. I honestly cannot stop listening to Coils.” – Metal Odyssey

“The chiming riffs and exotic lead guitar melodies in “Coils” do indeed generate an air of mysticism that surrounds the song, but the music also rocks very hard. The thundering drums and rumbling bass rhythms give the song a sense of tangible power, and the jagged, howling vocals cut like a serrated knife. It’s a bulldozer as well as a spellcaster…the song is also catchy as hell, and it should hold special appeal to fans of bands such as The Devil’s Blood, Satyricon, and Belphegor.” – No Clean Singing

“A very entertaining and intelligent.. from the time I pushed play to the time It all stopped. This album feel’s like a breathe of fresh air within Metal, they have a dynamic presence and conveyance about them.” – Taste of Khaos

“The songs on this album are what you’d expect from a fantastic Metal band. Songs like ‘The Cell’ and ‘Redemption’ are the essence of Metal and the tip of the anarchist iceberg. Overall, ‘Terraform’, is a brilliant album that’s full of neck breaking explosions and hair tangling insanity.” – 925 Rebellion

ODIUM has been operating out of Hanover, Ontario producing dark, yet melodic metal layered with fast-paced gruff bellows, resonating vocals, and pounding instrumentals for nearly a decade. After releasing an EP and two full-length records, the band has been gearing for their third album ‘Terraform’ due out on October 23, 2015.(http://odium1.bandcamp.com/http://www.kt8merch.com/store/pages/18414)

Their goal is to write heavy and melodic music, while constantly developing their style from album to album. The instrumentals lend their tone and energy to invite more versatility in the vocals in each song. Their passion for performing live and incredible stage energy has allowed them to open for Alexisonfire, The Agonist, Beneath the Massacre, Divinity, Moneen, and Fuck the Facts.

The lyrics invite listeners to take a journey through despair, while the bass and drums drive the rhythm, the guitars straddle the line between pure aggression and melodic riffs. For ODIUM there has always been a pattern of evolution over the past few years that allows them to continuously create multi-genre influenced music. The band is comprised of Joe Mullen, Jake Fortney, Andrew Fullerton, Bo Louther, Marc Dobson, who have come from various bands such as Archaea/Willfall.

The bands name is defined as ‘disgraceful hate’ however after the past 10 years they have come to see the band name relating directly to perseverance. ODIUM has a foundation of trust which creates a bond likened to that of a brotherhood. The dedication and teamwork within the band is based on respect, and because the internal bond is so strong they are able to create a meaningful connection with fans.

“It is clear that Odium knows how to be heavy and they utilize it exactly where it is most needed…This album is perfect for those who want to take a step back from the unrelenting aggression of many metal bands out there and appreciate that beauty and anger can harmonize.” – TheNewReview.net

“Standouts like the album’s opening title track pit detuned, jud-judding six-strings and double-kick drum rhythms with singer Thomas Emmans’s varied vocal styles, which run from Maynard James Keenan-styled creep-crooning to esophagus-annihilating screams.” – Exclaim!

“Melodic and brutal, the music of Odium’s sophomore album is nothing less than one of the most technically precise Metal albums it has been my pleasure to listen to….The songs of ‘Burning the Bridges’ are spectacular; a mix of brutality and poetry; songs like “Blue Channel” and “Viral by Nature” are among my favorites, on a disc loaded with powerful standout material. Like Metal? Get this. Odium: Burning the Bridges to Nowhere – 9/10” – Confront Magazine

“Loud and fast but also melodic and complex,  fan of acts like Killswitch Engage and Lamb of God will not be disappointed.” – London Metro News

“If you have any appreciation technically brilliant, intelligent and mature, massively heavy modern metal then do not miss out on Burning The Bridges To Nowhere. Odium are definitely a band to watch.” – RawNerve Zine

“Odium are very good at what they do, namely melodic Death Metal. This Canadian quintet have a lot going for them…competent and execute the form very well… There are some nice orchestrated atmospheric moments such as at the beginning of ‘Insomina’” – Metal-Rules.com

“Odium posses very distinctive and strong melodic leanings, catchy riffing and undeniable prowess on the performing front – especially with the clean/growl vocal trade-off and the tight rhythm section….cuts like the thrashy “Viral By Nature”, “Within the Distraction” and the title track, perfectly blend with the more expansive sound of “No Way Out” and the melancholic quasi-ballad “The Descent” among others to deliver a decently solid piece of modern Metal. ” – PureGrainAudio.com

” Right from the opening title track one knows exactly what they’re getting: hard hitting riffs with great rhythm, solid production so everything can be heard, and a dual assault of bellowing snarls with dark and brooding clean vocals that can send shivers down one’s spine…the biggest surprise is the closing “The Descent” which trades the angry, aggressive sound for a soft, almost classical sounding Rock ballad. Here fans get to see the more emotional side that was probably buried in all the screaming, and for new fans it may feel out of place, but one cannot argue that this is the ‘hardest hitting track’ on the album, as it aims right for the heart. Whether one likes Metal or Rock in general, there’s a bit of something here for everyone, as with the entire release of ‘Burning The Bridges To Nowhere.'” – Brutalism.com

“the album is a beast that roars anthem after anthem mixing traditional metal guitar solos, Gothenburg tones, and the grunting / singing combination” – MetalForces Magazine

“Without a doubt this is one of the better modern melo-death metal albums out this year and the uniqueness within their sound should help to attract new listeners. Album number two is exceptional and now I wait in earnest for their next release. I am sure it’s going to be as stunning as this one is. ” – Blistering.com

“Odium have delivered a strong release with their second album “The Burning Bridges To Nowhere”. Strong melodic riffing leads, strong driving rhythm, strong death vocals along with delicate clean vocals that melt into a great sound garment and make this album interesting. 8/10″ – Metal-Glory.de

“They forge fast and pulsating melodic metal in the vein of In Flames, with biting verses akin to Lamb of God. Vocalist Tom Emmans rips through the tracks, delivering highs, lows and clean singing for the choruses…What sets them apart from other metal bands is their song structure, having uniquely arranged melodies that correspond with stadium and arena-like choruses. Imagine Tool ditching their progressive style and forming a supergroup with Unearth.” – The Link (Concordia University students newspaper – Montreal)

“To be radio satisfactory, a melodic catch has to be present to appeal to the half-distracted listener. That is demonstrated in vocalist Tom Emmans’ clean singing during the album’s choruses. His sound is haunting and pure, like Maynard Keenan, but doesn’t whine. Not every metal vocalist can sing, growl and screech successfully and be aesthetically brutal. This is a key aspect as to why new Odium fans will fawn over them.” – Journal & Courier Daily (West Lafayette, IN)

“The thing with a band like Odium is that they know how to walk that line between full on heavy, thrashed out metal and melody. It’s definitely their style, but they only seem to turn it on where it’s necessary, and that speaks to a much wider audience.” – Juliette Jagger – AlanCross.ca

“Odium are a Canadian band that just released their smoking album “Burning the Bridges to Nowhere”. The band sound like a mix of Killswitch Engage, In Flames and Tool. Unlike most generic metalcore that you hear nowadays, Odium actually have the chops and the hooky songs to make it big. Think metalcore is crap or “false” metal? Listen to “Burning the Bridges to Nowhere” and you will be converted to Odium’s music.”  – Scratch The Surface

“Odium’s sophomore release is high on energy and features plenty of “impact is imminent” thrash moments that are easy enough for the listener to latch onto. “Burning The Bridges To Nowhere” is a recommended release.” – Heavy Metal Time Machine

“Playing a familiar form of modern metal that will appeal to fans of Killswitch Engage, All That Remains…” – TeethofTheDivine.com

“Burning the Bridges to Nowhere” has a constant flow and keeps the energy high and octane filled…” – XplosiveMetal.com

“This is where Walkerton’s Odium come in. What Scar Symmetry has achieved for European sensibilities, this band has achieved for the North American taste. In the vocal department, Tom Emmans alternates between a guttural rasp not unlike a more guttural Jamey Jasta, and clean vocals that are serviceable and familiar in a modern rock mold. The guitarists, Andrew Fullerton and Bo Louther, also familiar melo-death tricks to the show, reminding one primarily of At the Gates. The rythm section, bassist Dale Burrows and drummer Joe Mullen, does some really solid, supremely heavy things that keep the tunes grounded firmly in DM. Fantastic double kick work and bass licks that keep pace and perfectly fill the pocket between the guitars and the drums.” – Matt Miller’s Metal Militia Blog

“Fans of Killswitch Engage or All That Remains will enjoy Odium’s second offering…There is a lot to enjoy here, admirers of thrash metal will appreciate the chugging guitar riffs and Slipknot devotees will enjoy the heavy drum patterns. A softer side also develops through the album with ‘Blue Channel’ and ‘The Descent’. Together with some orchestral moments they provide a welcome listening break within the record. The more sombre moments of “Burning Bridges To Nowhere” point towards Tool in many ways, including a dazzling vocal segway in “Claw My Eyes Out”.” – ThisIsNotAScene.com

“You are getting your money’s worth with this album. Anyone even remotely interested in melodic metal will quickly fall in love with Odium. Odium has taken a genre that is so often devoid of beauty and filled it to the brim with melody and substance without compromising their metal roots. ” – TheNew Review.net (review for debut album At the Bottom)

“…At The Bottom is quite an impressive debut..” – Blistering.com (review for debut album At the Bottom)
