Oshawa, Canada’s Maitreya has a new EP “Auxesis” coming out October 11, 2024, and they are now debuting their second single “Still Motion” to follow the exciting “The Traveler” released this past July. Meshed together with eccentric and riveting progressive metal, lyrically, the track is about gaining the benefit of stillness in clarity and awareness. Being able to forgive yourself for straying from your path, and learning as much as you can along the way. Guitarist Mark Wylie comments on the track:

“Many of my compositions are inspired by practice and studies of Yogic traditions. This song in particular is based on the experience of expansion felt in meditation. The attempt musically was to capture the type of motion felt in an astral out-of-body experience, while still remaining conscious of the physical body. Most notable of this effect compositionally is the rhythmic interplay used in the chorus section. The rhythm has a way of syncopating on and off the beat, creating a type of non-resolving momentum.”

The band goes on to explain that “Still Motion” distills the core features of the “Auxesis” EP into a single track. The marriage of musical intention and lyrical meaning work together to illustrate the journey of one’s spiritual path. The presence of soft, ambient sections is representative of victory and balance in one’s pursuit – while the darker, heavy moments portray the pitfalls and mistakes we make along the way.

Listeners are invited to experience the intricate melodic narrative, where both headbanging metal-heavy riffs and reflective vocal lines co-exist in the vortex of sonic alchemy. Maitreya is especially recommended for fans of The Contortionist, Twelve Foot Ninja, and Leprous.

“We’re always on the hunt for interesting new metal bands, and Canada’s Maitreya certainly qualifies. The band’s newest single, “Catalyst”, treads familiar progressive metal territory – think vocals similar to Leprous and instrumentation akin to older BTBAM – but rest assured it sounds fresh.” – New Fury Media

“Heavy metallers Maitreya recognize the value of dreams with their new single and music video for “Bloom,” a rifftastic blast of progressive metal.” – V13

“What’s on the menu here is a wide range of flavours. There’s something to suit the taste of any serious metal fan. This relatively new band has some good ideas and knows how to execute them. Despite the current restrictions, these guys have plenty of time to bring the Maitreya brand to the fore.” – The Prog Space

“What we have here with Hyper Reels is a fresh take on both progressive metal and metalcore in general. Ten high-powered and heavy efforts that go in a myriad of unexpected and thrilling directions. If there’s one thing Maitreya do well on Hyper Reels, it is to keep you guessing all the time.” Games, Brrraaains & A Headbanging Life

“Ambitious and aggressive, Canada’s Maitreya break boundaries from the beginning with Departed. Heavy, contemporary metal chords are underscored by droning, chorusing vocals, but blink and you’ll miss them as Maitreya soon change direction to a growling verse pandemonium. Their riffing is adventurous and deadly, cutting through weighty, rolling rhythms and movements.” – Jace Media

The first foray into this album that reflects on the human experience while delivering a solid punch of thrash and death metal. The first single, the title track is out now and the band comments:

“We wanted to create something raw and real. Creating this album was an intense and rewarding process. This album represents who we are and what we stand for. It is incredibly personal for all of us. “Although they hail from the famously pleasant country of Canada, BornBroken, might be the heaviest and angriest thing we’ve heard from their parts in a long time. With no shortage of punishing riffs, brutal drumming, and vicious vocals that spit lyrics to change the world, BornBroken’s sophomore album ,The Years of Hard Truths And Little Lies, is worth pre-ordering before it’s due out May 18th.” – Metal Injection (2018 – The Years of Harsh Truths And Little Lies…)

“Canadian unit BornBroken are releasing The Years of Harsh Truths And Little Lies…, a raging collection of songs inspired by what the band feel is a reality that’s getting worse. We’ll let the band speak on that aspect, but it’s not controversial to confirm that the songs on The Years of Harsh Truths are brutal and varied enough to appeal to fans of Lamb of God, Sepultura and even groove legends Pantera and Exhorder. ” – Decibel Magazine (2018 – The Years of Harsh Truths And Little Lies…)

“Apocalyptic thrashcore bunch BornBroken wear their political bent on their sleeves. From ‘The Years of Hard Truths And Little Lies’ Bansky-esque artwork to on-the-nose, ‘Take that politics!’ sentiment of its title, their anti-establishment sentiment is layered on thick. It’s hard to argue with their anger, in fairness. Tackling everything from inequality to government conspiracies, the Canadian band’s fury is aimed in all the right directions….BornBroken’s unrelenting pace is proof that, even in the supposedly docile nation of Canada, there’s still plenty to rally against in 2018.” – Metal Hammer (2018 – The Years of Harsh Truths And Little Lies…)

“Good sweet Mary Poppins, what the hell is in the water in Montreal?! No amount of poutine will silence the outright bonkers heavy that BornBroken have cooking for you. No amount of smoked meats will halt their vicious onslaught of pounding rhythm and vocal cord shredding, headbang demanding, heartwarming metal.” – Metal Rules (2018 – The Years of Harsh Truths And Little Lies…)

“Un retour percutant qui plaira aux fans de Lamb of God, DevilDriver.” – Voir (Montreal Weekly) (2018 – The Years of Harsh Truths And Little Lies…)

“Un groupe énergique qui livre la marchandise! Alors quand on m’a proposé de faire la critique de leur nouvel album, je vous laisse deviner quel fut mon engouement à découvrir ce nouvel opus! Une douce brutalité bien musicale comme je les aime. Un album avec une âme, et qui en profite pour prendre possession de la nôtre au passage durant ces trop courtes 40 minutes!…Ma note, un SOLIDE 9 sur 10 largement mérité!” – Metal Universe (2018 – The Years of Harsh Truths And Little Lies…)

“I can tell you right from the start, these guys are heavy as hell. Big guitar riffs, heavy drums, chugging bass lines, and those deep, guttural screams of the lead singer show this band know exactly what they want and how they will take it. The title track features some excellent guitar work along with the quick metal riffs. It gives you a feel for the band and what to expect for the rest of the album.” – Canadian Beats (2018 – The Years of Harsh Truths And Little Lies…)

“The Years of Harsh Truths and Little Lies est un autre chef-œuvre musical que BornBroken nous as pondu. The Years of Harsh Truths and Little Lies est définitivement l’album qui va projeter BornBroken à un autre niveau sur l’échiquier du métal mondial. ” – Quebec Metal (2018 – The Years of Harsh Truths And Little Lies…)

0 Exitus Stratagem Records – Venture Down “The Road To Samm Hill” In VORAATH’s New Music Video For New Album “Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters” + MICHIGAN METAL FEST

  • August 7, 2024
  • by Asher

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – August 7, 2024

Venture Down “The Road To Samm Hill” In VORAATH’s New Music Video For New Album “Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters”

+ MICHIGAN METAL FEST – Aug 24th – Battle Creek, MI

Transporting you through a portal of sci-fi storytelling and extreme music, Voraath‘s first full-length “Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters” is brutal yet epic metal. The level of detail that the band has emphasized in this release exposes a grand story of interdimensional worlds and cosmic entities warring while paying homage to their culture in the Appalachian Mountains of the Carolinas.

“This album will be an investment of thought and emotion. We want to immerse the listener in another world. It’s heavy yet sad, brutal yet immersive, so we hope to take everyone on a journey. That journey is scored with metal! We think this album will be something unique, a whirlwind of emotions and an auditory odyssey. We capsulated real events in our lives and laced them through our complex musical universe. We want the fans to feel the music, and ride along with us on this musical journey through our dystopian planet.” adds the band.

Today, that journey continues with the next music video for “The Road To Samm Hill”, a song that outlines the battle with the otherworldly entity as well as discovering a traitor in their ranks. The band explains the story further:

“We have received coordinates to the location of the relay, an alien mechanism that can bend space-time. Employed by EOS Corp, our mission is to retrieve the relay at all costs. As we approach the area of operation, we are confronted by a creature frail and decaying stumbling along the old road. As it approaches us it reaches out its hand, revealing a sort of otherworldly controller. The creature shortly after petrifies and dies. Resuming our journey we come across a barren village, with dead bodies scattered. Further investigating we discover that Ostromek Corp had been conducting experiments on what seems to be an otherworldly entity. The scientist and security officers of Ostromek had seemingly lost control of the creature which had led to the massacre of the local village.”

Watch the music video for “The Road To Samm Hill” via its premiere on MetalAddicts HERE.

In additional news, VORAATH will perform at this year’s Michigan Metal Fest on August 24th in Battle Creek alongside Mushroomhead, (hed) PE, Gideon, and lots more.

An odyssey of hardship, betrayal, survival, and cosmic tales, “Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters” is recommended for fans of Septic Flesh, Gojira, and Fleshgod Apocalypse, and is available at the following links:

“Crushing Sci-Fi Death Metal” – Metal Injection

“Celebrating Sci-Fi Dystopia, and a Debut Album, with Voraath… We’ve made mention of Carolina’s cinematic sci-fi proggy death metal aliens Voraath in this space before… Well, they’re back with yet another Shudder/SyFy worthy, seemingly budget-busting work of dystopian video art. “The Leviathan’s Keep”” – Decibel Magazine

“Voraath‘s aim is to do more than record and release music. The music is part of a universe they’re creating, drawing upon elements of horror and science-fantasy, which includes significant visual as well as audio portrayals, including the band’s own presentation of themselves on stage — each member appears as a character in the lore of the music” – No Clean Singing

“The fact that the troupe is already so mature and professional on their debut, but also so passionate about it, may be due to the fact, that all musicians were previously employed in other projects. But it wasn’t until VORAATH that they obviously found the repository of their creativity and, completely surprisingly, created a small milestone with “Volume 1: Hymny Of The Hunters!” 9/10″ – PowerMetal.de

“Voraath’s “Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters” isn’t just an album; it’s a meticulously crafted portal into a nightmarish realm where each track unfolds a new chapter of struggle and revelation. With their blend of brutal aggression and melodic nuance, Voraath sets a new standard in storytelling, promising listeners an immersive experience that transcends genres and challenges the boundaries of a musical literary experience. Embrace the darkness and join the hunt—Voraath awaits, ready to lead you through their extreme metal multiverse with unparalleled intensity and imagination.” – Metal Lair

“Voraath‘s Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters is a meticulously crafted journey through a rich, dystopian world. The band’s ability to blend metal with intricate storytelling sets them apart, creating an immersive experience that is both brutal and thought-provoking. Voraath has set a high bar with their debut, promising even greater adventures in the metal multiverse they are meticulously crafting.” – Amplify The Noise

“this first Voraath album sends us into a cosmic epic” – Eklektik Rock

“The Barrens offers a blend of crushing riffs and distinctive soundscapes, delivering a unique cinematic soundtrack.” – Metal Insider

“US band Voraath are out with the album “Vol 1. The Hymn of the Hunters”, and this is a production that might well be of interest for fans of progressive metal. And a case could be argued for this album to be defined as extreme progressive metal too. Tight, form and hectic extreme metal is at the core of this album, with a handful or so of distorted lead vocals combining with hard and tight guitar and rhythm combinations as the core elements throughout…. An album for those who tend to enjoy a more sophisticated and dynamic variety of extreme metal that may possibly also be defined to reside inside of the extreme progressive metal tradition.” – Progressor

“It gives me great pleasure to tell you that Creation’s Call is a blast. Siege Perilous has succeeded in creating what I would call Epic Power Metal for the Working Man. They don’t waste your time with overlong symphonic interludes between tracks, melodramatic narration, or overproduction that tests the limits of your sanity. The band gets right to the point and pulls you into their epic tales of heroic daring immediately. This is a nice breath of fresh air and if this EP is anything to go by, Siege Perilous has a great future ahead of them. Yes, this could be considered power metal but the no-nonsense approach and urgency to the songwriting makes this release absolutely worth checking out for those of us in the NWOTHM scene. Plus, it’s really just a lot of fun. This one is highly recommended. THENWOTHM SCORE: 9/10” – The NWOTHM

“[Betrayal of the Dracolich] was one of my favorite metal EPs of 2022” – Harry Cane Twisted Mind Radio

0 Calgary Post-Metal ATOMIS To Release Posthumous “The Void Box Set” Of Their Entire Works And Stream Single “12 Chains”

Montreal, QC – August 6, 2024

Calgary Post-Metal ATOMIS To Release Posthumous “The Void Box Set” Of Their Entire Works And Stream Single “12 Chains”

“the Void Box Set” Out Aug 30th, 2024

Top Left: Taylor Johnson (Guitar), Top Right: Nathan Navetto Drums, Bottom Left: Matthew McLaughlin (Guitar/Vox/Keys), Bottom Right: Bryan Buss (Bass)

Atomis, Post-Metal from Calgary, Canada was a music and visual artist group, created by Nathan Navetto, Matthew McLaughlin, Taylor Johnson, and Bryan Buss in 2010. Combining elements of post-rock/metal, electronic, and cinema, Atomis had created a unique voice in their music/visual hybrid live performances. They disbanded in 2020 due to the passing of drummer Nathan Navetto and are now releasing a box set of all the music they have ever created, as a tribute to the late him. Before the release of the collection they are streaming the single “12 Chains”, which bassist Bryan Buss comments on:

“12 Chains is a driving, repetitive, droning track that constantly moves forward until it breaks. We have an upcoming video for this one directed by Doug Cook that will perfectly show what one can go through in life, always searching for answers.”

Musically, the box set showcases the entirety of Atomis, all the way from the drawing board, to a polished album, but in reverse. Each of the three CDs showcases three eras of the band in constant creation mode. They are excited to finally share IT ALL, “polished” or not.

The set includes their self-titled album recorded in 2014, including four long tracks that have never been performed live; “Welcome to the Void” – Navetto’s experimental version of their debut with eight extra synth-laden tracks; and a “Live off the Floor” demo album capturing raw performances from 2010-2014.

Dynamic and crushing, this triple threat of post-metal is recommended for fans of Isis, Neurosis, and The Ocean.

What the press has said about them:

“The songs are epic and can almost be described as soundscapes, as they incorporate everything from crushing metal riffs to peaceful ambient noise.” – Matt Petti, Beatroute Magazine

“Before the first viewing of the video, Canadian director and film-maker Doug Cook gave an introductory speech about the making of the video and working with Atomis. They created a video that perfectly complimented the band’s music and fans asked to watch it a second time (and then even a third time before the venue closed). Cook has been working with many Calgary metal bands lately, such as Divinity, Orphan Hammer and the Unravelling. He has also worked on some videos that may be a little more well known around the globe including “Breaking the Broken” by Control Denied, “Prolong the Agony” by Morta Skuld and the upcoming video for Death’s “Pull the Plug”.” – Evilg – Metal Sucks

DERELICT Posts Drum Playthrough For “The Escapist” Off New Album “Versus Entropy” Out Now!

L-R – Eric Burnet – Vocals, Guitar, Max Lussier – Guitar, Vocals, Sébastien Pittet – Bass, Tommy McKinnon – Drums

Returning after a 12-year hiatus with their breakthrough and highly anticipated album “Versus Entropy” unleashed this past June, Montreal, Canada’s Derelict is sharing their next drum playthrough from Tommy McKinnon for the full-length’s closing track “The Escapist”. The song features a combination of classic Derelict elements like the trem picking and odd time signatures but with a cool type of groove and some exotic gypsy scale breaks and leads. The lyrics are about wanting to escape your reality, be it through substances, media, or other avenues.

“We think this one is both brutal and progressive in equal amounts. We think you could describe the album that way as a whole so we thought it was a nice way to wrap it up.” adds the band.

Drummer Tommy McKinnon also adds:

“The Escapist was definitely one of the most challenging tunes I had to nail for the album. The tempo is pretty fast and there are breaks in sextuplets, which are sort of tricky to get into after just giving her at 203 bpm. This was my last day of tracking (I took a week off work) and I was getting kind of pissed off because I was about to run out of time. I had planned to film that song as a play-thru while recording the album because I felt like it was a great song to watch on drums. Anyway, I got it done and this is what you can see here. Worth the trouble in my opinion!”

Derelict‘s latest album “Versus Entropy” is a testament to the collaborative synergy between Burnet and guitarist Max Lussier. Each song on the album is a joint effort, with contributions from bassist Sébastien Pittet and drummer Tommy McKinnon adding layers of complexity and depth.

Unshackling their brutal melodic technical death metal, this full length has been a long time coming as it unfolds in two distinct chapters, the first four songs can be considered a pure evolution of what they did on 2012’s “Perpetuation”. It is then separated by an instrumental piece “Attunement” that offers a breather and a bridge to the last four tracks that feature probably the band’s most brutal, southern, thrashiest, and old-school prog death songs ever written by them.

Lyrically, the album delves into both global and personal themes, from climate change and social injustice to introspective explorations of identity and emotion. “Versus Entropy” was produced by Burnet and Lussier, mixed and mastered by JF Dagenais (Kataklysm), with the album artwork done by Cate Francis.

Burnet adds about the album:

“Existing fans of Derelict will recognize that it’s us right away. We play technical death metal with lots of melody and vocals that are more on the clear intelligible side (for death metal). That said, we let ourselves experiment and explore with this album. 2012’s ‘Perpetuation’ was full steam ahead. It didn’t have a single clean passage. While we are very proud of that album, we did not want to do that again. We wanted an album that hits hard, breathes, and ends before you get overwhelmed. We were heavily influenced by the structure of Gorguts’ ‘Colored Sands’ album, where they put a long instrumental piece as the fifth track of a nine-song album. We set out to do something similar and wrote our first full-band proggy instrumental song with ‘Attunement’. It serves as a bridge between the two halves of the album. The first four songs probably resemble the Derelict people are most familiar with, but even within that, there are more dynamics and variations. After Attunement, the second half experiments even more. Dans Les Dents is Max’s first song on lead vocals and is probably our most brutal song to date. Spectrum challenges conventions with more of a bluesy/southern metal sound, but the lyrics are about celebrating differences within masculinity by making space for all kinds of identities. The song Derelict is very thrashy and also very cheesy. It’s an ode to the band’s history and I really didn’t hold back on the cheesy and sentimental lyrics. And finally, The Escapist, another sung by Max, is very old school and progressive. You can definitely hear Max’s Death and Atheist influences there.”

“Derelict are back with a brutal, technical track, “Versus Entropy.”… The new record is nine tracks long and takes on many themes about the diverse and complex human experience, all while showcasing how ripping and heavy their riffs can be. This song is a great first foray into the heavy and nuanced layers they will bring with this release.” – Decibel Magazine

“As song beginnings go, the one at the outset of “Spectrum” is especially electrifying, an amalgam of rapidly quivering strings, savage percussive bursts, and feverishly swirling and wailing guitar solos by Max Lussier and Eric Burnet. The turbocharged intensity stays high with the appearance of vicious snarls and rabid howls, coupled with weaponized drum attacks and swarming riffage, but the song reveals a new dimension as singing joins in with the snarling. There’s more of Lussier‘s soloing too, a head-spinning romp, soon followed by a slithering and menacing guitar arpeggio, as well as further episodes of harmonized singing and fang-baring tirades. The soloing and the singing does bring in elements of “Southern metal”, and gives the song a very distinctive personality.” – NoCleanSinging

“Versus Entropy is a great blend of the band’s influences in old school death, thrash, and prog/technical death metal. Combining their life experiences with world issues and industry matters (Re: Trevor Strnad), Derelict’s June 21st self-released album is a testament to the continuation of a major Canadian death metal project that is worthy of note as it really seeks to show the band’s remaining fervour for quality production and expression along with current world matters that strike a chord with the members, having lived a generation of life away from the grind, only to return with new perspectives and tastes.” – Metal Epidemic

“What is in the water in CANADA! I swear they have been putting out some of the sickest bands and albums this year! Derelict has stepped up after twelve years with their latest self- release “Versus Entropy” with 9 tracks of traditional Brutal Tech Shred!! Displaying every bit of refined talent through each track. I personally enjoyed track 5, Titled “Attunement” an instrumental right in the middle of the record, makes perfect sense and helps cleanse your palette for the rest of the album. We get that speedy, yet melodic guitar shed throughout all 9 tracks sure to impress any musician and fan of tech metal. Grab your copy” – Keeper Magazine

“”Versus Entropy” est un beau disque dont les notes méritent de tomber dans des oreilles expertes et ne jamais se disperser dans l’oubli. 4/5″
“”Versus Entropy” is a beautiful record whose notes deserve to fall on expert ears and never disperse into oblivion.4/5″ – Music Waves Fr

“Kind of a deathy thrash. crisp heavy” – 89.9 WORT FM – The Moshpit (Madison, WI)

“An album to seek out for those who tend to enjoy a more technical take on a hard, tight and firm variety of extreme metal.” – The Viking In The Wilderness

“You would think with Canadian Tech death you would know everything that there is to know about the style right… Wrong, Derelict has only put out a few albums but each album is really a Great Masterpiece of the tech death world while still showing off that you don’t need to be Tech death 100% of the time. Every riff serves a purpose, every lead sounds so perfect for the song. Everyone in the band absolutely has technicality and musicianship to an absolute but they know how to write songs at the same time and you match that up with fantastic production and you have one of the standout Tech death albums of 2024. Seriously if you need tech death that is not just pure Tech death give Derelict a chance.” – Heavy Debriefings

“It is speedy, brutal and yet still melodic, inventive in arrangement (especially ‘Attunement’) and well produced. Every instrument is cleanly and clearly discerned and the cymbals are easily listened to without overpowering anything else…. no hesitation in awarding Derelict 9/10… Also, fucking ‘Spectrum’ though. The perfect blend of technical ability and groove. Fucking hell.” – Ever-Metal

“Derelict is back. And how. I really enjoyed it Versus Entropy. I listened to this album with a cautiously optimistic curiosity and after several times I came to appreciate it more and more. The musical experiments on the second part turn out very well, and it is artfully done that you still hear the characteristic sound of the band firmly in it. Cool record and I hope physical copies will be available soon. I’d say give the band a chance if you Revocation, Allegeon, Decapitated, Death, The Black Dahlia Murder and Cryptopsy a warm heart. 84/100” – Zware Metalen

The Burning Of Rome Comes Alive In ANCIENT ENTITIES’ Video “Empire In Ashes”

Debut Album “Echoes Of Annihilation” Out Now! From WormHoleDeath Records

L-R – Live Lineup – Luke Veranth – Bass, Bernardo Mendia – Drums, Brian Gulliford – Vocals, Alex Rausa – Guitar, Jake Falk – Guitar

Ancient Entities, from Milwaukee, USA is not your average death metal band. With a thematic focus on ancient civilizations, folklore, and mythology from across the globe, their music is a journey through time and legend. Combining technical death metal riffing with thunderous rhythm sections, Ancient Entities creates a sound that is both colossal and captivating. This past June they released their debut album “Echoes of Annihilation” on Womr Hole Death Records. Today, the band has their new music video for the track “Empire In Ashes” – with added bonus footage from their performance at this year’s Milwaukee Metal Fest. The band comments on some of their backgrounds:

“We have lots of talented musicians in the band. Alex and Luke learned from the same jazz teacher in the Milwaukee area, Steve Peplin. He’s a very notable name in Milwaukee and the jazz community. On top of that Alex also took some lessons from Paul Ryan (Origin) in his early 20s and also from Cristiano Trionfera (ex-Fleshgod Apocalypse) a couple of times. Knowledge from these musicians helped form Alex’s style of playing especially when it comes to leads. You can hear a lot of what Paul Ryan calls “laser sweeps” in Echoes of Annihilation.”

Alex Rausa, the primary songwriter, draws inspiration from various cultures and mythologies, infusing each song with authentic vibes and grandiosity. Brian Gulliford, the band’s lyricist, brings Alex’s visions to life with vivid storytelling that delves into war tactics, ancient rituals, and the brutality of historical civilizations.

Ancient Entities is picking up steam with recent festival performances and certainly more to come. “Echoes of Annihilation” is recommended for fans of Decapitated, Blood Red Throne, and Nile.

Watch and listen to the music video for “Empire In Ashes” via its premiere on Decibel Magazine HERE.

“Echoes of Annihilation” was released on June 21st, 2024, and is available at the following links:

“Ancient Entities are not just a random band name, but a state of mind on Echoes Of Annihilation. They go back in history to when Mayans and Aztecs reigned, where the idea of a person being tied to a stake and burned alive while wearing a flammable vest was not a plot point to a B-level horror film. Mummification, the burning of Roman civilization and sacrificial cannibalism are just some of the subjects explored with turbulent death metal.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“”Echoes of Annihilation ” it is a solid and extremely flowing platter, full of inspired moments and cared for in almost all its aspects… it’s a really good hit in the teeth!” – Metal.it

““Hidden,” is a snarling, thrashing menace. A song that brings the burrowing of time to forment the great beyond.” – The Median Man

“The band’s mission is clear: to transport listeners to ancient times, capturing the essence of historical narratives through their relentless music, its enveloping atmosphere and crushing riffs.” – Broken Tomb Magazine

“ANCIENT ENTITIES plays in a real frenzy, especially in the last third, literally overturns modern, yet old-school Death Metals at the constant demonstration and has not had a single song in your pocket until the end that you want to skip for any reason. So you can congratulate the boys on a proper first performance, who wonderfully bridges the gap between classic and contemporary death lead and sends a clear signal here and there, especially when it comes to brutality. Even if the gruesome artwork suggests bad things: “Echoes Of Annihilation” is a really cool death metal disc!” – PowerMetal.de

“Ancient Entities with Echoes of Annihilation, this is a Milwaukee band that really focuses in on how to balance technical death metal while still making it listenable for the non-tech death fans out there. They know how to do some fretboard gymnastics. They definitely know how to play across the drum kit but it’s also something that doesn’t just go absolutely insane 100% of the time. They know how to write songs, they just know when to show off at the right times and that’s the kind of album I can really be behind. It has a really rich and full production style yet just raw enough to kind of give it a mid-late 90s kind of feel behind it. This is a death metal album that really should be up a lot of people’s alley and if you like the slightest amount of tech death you shall love Ancient Entities.” – Heavy Debriefings

“a Death Metal disc you need, cavernous growl, an incessant and incandescent riffingwork and a brutal and groovy rhythmic section, then this debut by Ancient Entities is a more than pleasant discovery for you: give them a chance!” – All Around Metal

“Hailing from the dominant Midwest of Milwaukee, WI, Ancient Entities has brought forth a punishing new album. In the wake of an already brutal year, Echoes of Annihilation puts the “Death” back in Death Metal. From beginning to end this album will quench your thirst and leave you begging for more. The technical melodies from the guitars and on key drumming make this easy listening whether you like “Tech Death” or not. Vocally will leave you reminded of early Aborted and Cannibal Corpse (George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher) era. Check this album out and add it to your daily listening.” – Keeper Magazine

EPK – Atomis – The Void Box Set (2024)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“Long-awaited, and well-deserved. Due to a variety of circumstances, and after many false starts, and the passing of our drummer and bandleader Nathan Navetto in 2020, the album never came out. We still have fans of our first single Maelstrom asking about “The Album”, so we’re pleased to now share the entirety of our catalog in the form of a box set. Some were finished, some half-baked, and some completely raw and recorded with a single microphone inside a concrete jamspace.

“With this ‘The Void Box Set’ we’re trying to give an enveloping musical connection to the band that spans across a decade – ranging from a high production debut album of previously unheard music, to an experimental version of the album – “Nathan’s version” – called “Welcome to the Void”, which includes a remix of the debut album, plus 8 bonus ambient/experimental tracks fully written by Nathan. Closing up the box set is a Live off the Floor demos album of songs we performed live regularly from 2010-2014. These are the songs that our local scene would recognize, and songs that sadly never made it to the studio.” – Bryan Buss – Bass – Atomis

“The unique and heavy Atomis were a great band. After the passing of drummer Nathan Navetto in 2020 the band decided to dissolve. But we were excited to learn a new collection, “The Void Box Set” comprising all of their work is set for release on Aug. 30th! And you can always catch plenty of Atomis on your Home for Rock…W-J-O-EEEE!” – WJOE – Findlay’s Home for Rock & Roll

About The Album Artwork:

Welcome to the Void artwork was created by Nathan Navetto, who was a very well-known graphic designer in Calgary, collaborating with bands such as The Weir, Wake, Mares of Thrace, and more. -Bryan Buss

About the album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

Musically, the Box Set really showcases the entirety of ATOMIS all the way from the drawing board, to a polished album, but in reverse. Each of the three CDs showcases three eras of the band in constant creation mode. We are excited to finally share IT ALL, “polished” or not. -Bryan Buss

Track by track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

Self-titled album only —

12 Chains is a driving, repetitive, droning track constantly moving forward until it breaks. Doug Cook’s music video perfectly shows what one can go through in life, always searching for answers.

Awakening is an epic over 14 minutes in length. Although its placement as the 2nd track works the entire track carries you through the album like a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th track would, roaming up through hills, storms, and into the black of night. Downtuned to B, and even low as G# in the studio for certain parts, it gets as heavy as it gets beautiful.

In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts —— A very percussive path laid here, monotonous, and introspective. The fretless bass slides are hypnotizing as the guitar slowly builds til it breaks into an ambiance, letting the synth take over.

Maelström. Recorded 10 years earlier, it makes sense to finish off the album with something familiar, taking the listener back to the beginning creating a nice loop, and ending the album with a bang. This 9+ minute track has been called an album on its own and was previously the band’s only musical release for the last 14 years.

FUN FATCS – STORY ANGLES

1. Nathan Navetto was well known as an artist, creating album art, t-shirt designs, and posters for many Canadian Metal Bands. He operated as Oversoul.

2. ATOMIS’ self-titled album was to be mixed by David Bottrill, however, delays due to several circumstances made this not possible.

3. After Nathan’s unfortunate passing in 2020, the band and Nathan’s family spent time going through his archives, finding stems, and several unreleased, as well as previously lost tracks, to compile the VOID Box Set.

4. ATOMIS’ Director, Doug Cook, also directed videos for Death and Control Denied.

5. All of the music on ATOMIS – LIVE DEMOS was the music heard at live shows from 2010-2014. This music was intended to be the 2nd, much heavier album, after an atmospheric debut concept album.

Top Left: Taylor Johnson, Top Right: Nathan Navetto, Bottom Left: Matthew McLaughlin, Bottom Right: Bryan Buss

ATOMIS (2010 – 2020) was a music and visual artist group, created by Nathan Navetto, Matthew McLaughlin, Taylor Johnson, and Bryan Buss

Combining elements of post-rock/metal, electronic, and cinema, ATOMIS had created a unique voice in their music/visual hybrid live performances.

“The songs are epic and can almost be described as soundscapes, as they incorporate everything from crushing metal riffs to peaceful ambient noise.” – Matt Petti, Beatroute Magazine

In 2012, ATOMIS partnered with Director Doug Cook and released a mind-bending music video for their track Maelström. Featuring ever-evolving psychedelic Rorschach-like visuals that were filmed using special cameras, and mirroring ink in water.

The video received great praise from fans and was even featured in an episode of the popular YouTube channel, Vsauce.

Until now, Maelström has been the sole piece of music ATOMIS has released.

After recording their debut album in 2014, several circumstances caused ATOMIS to dissolve into a solo project of drummer Nathan Navetto until his unfortunate passing in 2020. The remaining members have spent the last few years compiling a special release from the archives, to release in remembrance of Nathan Navetto.

2024 will see the release of “The VOID Box Set”, which includes ATOMIS’ debut Self-Titled album, Welcome To The Void (Nathan’s version of the album featuring 8 additional experimental tracks), as well as ATOMIS – LIVE DEMOS, a Live off the floor album recorded with a single mic – featuring nearly 80 minutes of music that ATOMIS regularly performed live from 2010-2014.

Director Doug Cook has created two new music videos for the band. The first being an epic video for the lead single, 12 Chains, which was originally sketched out by Navetto and Cook nearly a decade ago, using miniatures, actors, stop motion, CGI among other techniques.

Doug Cook has also edited a completely alternate version of their Maelström, using previously unseen live performance footage from 2012 of members Navetto, McLaughlin, and Johnson.

To celebrate these releases, ATOMIS will be inviting family, friends, and fans to The Globe Theatre on August 31st, 2024 for a Double Music Video premiere, and album listening party.

New Album “Raiders of the Dutch Rudder” Out Oct 2024

Rockshots Records and Mexican Standoff are joining forces together for the release of the next upcoming album called “Raiders Of The Dutch Rudder” to be released on October 4th, 2024.

In the meantime, Mexican Standoff is delighted to announce the release of a brand new song called “Bloody Summer” on all digital platforms as well as its official music video! “Bloody Summer” is an up-tempo track in the style of Danko Jones featuring an explosive intro and an extremely catchy chorus.

“Raiders of the Dutch Rudder” showcases their blend of classic rock energy, metal aggression, and punk rebellion for a groovy musical experience. After a six-year hiatus, the trio reunited to produce tracks highlighting their catchy and groovy signature sound while exploring new territories. Drawing from metal, glam, and punk, their sound is both fresh and familiar with lyrics ranging from imaginative storytelling to personal reflections.
