Canadian Post-Metal ATOMIS Shares New Video “In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts” Off “The Void Box Set” In Memory of Drummer’s Passing

Top Left: Taylor Johnson (Guitar), Top Right: Nathan Navetto Drums, Bottom Left: Matthew McLaughlin (Guitar/Vox/Keys), Bottom Right: Bryan Buss (Bass)
In remembrance of their late drummer Nathan Navetto, Calgary, Canada’s progressive post-metal act Atomis released their “The Void Box Set” of their complete discography this past August. The complete collection spans a decade ranging from a high production debut album of previously unheard music to an experimental version of the album – “Nathan’s version” – called “Welcome to the Void”, which includes a remix of the debut album, plus 8 bonus ambient/experimental tracks fully written by Nathan. Closing up the box set is a Live off the Floor demos album of songs Atomis performed live regularly from 2010-2014. These are the songs that the local scene would recognize and songs that sadly never made it to the studio. The band comments on the release:
“This collection is long-awaited and well-deserved. Due to a variety of circumstances, and after many false starts, and the passing of our drummer and bandleader Nathan Navetto in 2020, the album never came out. We still have fans of our first single ‘Maelstrom’ asking about “The Album”, so we’re pleased to now share the entirety of our catalog in the form of a box set. Some finished, some half-baked, and some completely raw and recorded with a single microphone inside a concrete jamspace.”
Today, Atomis shares their latest music video for the track “In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts”, a very percussive, monotonous, and introspective track. The fretless bass slides are hypnotizing as the guitar slowly builds until it breaks into an ambiance, letting the synth take over.
Watch and listen to “In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts” at https://youtu.be/XMLQvejmFQo
Atomis pulls from all aspects of inspiration, be it cinema, poetry, or nature, and tries to make an enveloping experience. The Void Box Set showcases the entirety of Atomis from the drawing board, to a polished album, but in reverse. It is recommended for fans of The Ocean, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and Radiohead.
Released on August 30th, 2024, “The Void Box Set” is available at https://atomismusic.bandcamp.com/

What the press has said about them:
“The Void Box Set’ is a tribute to ATOMIS‘ legacy and the creative vision of drummer Nathan Navetto, who passed away in 2020. This collection captures the band’s willingness to push the boundaries of post-rock and metal, blending crushing riffs with serene ambient soundscapes. ‘The Void Box Set’ is a must-have for fans of experimental metal and those seeking a profound musical journey through the void. 8/10” – Infrared Magazine
“The album of the same name “Atomis” with a running time of 38 minutes on just four songs, it’s very impressive. Here we find songs that are purely instrumental and not just suitable for sci-fi films. Let’s take it “12 Chains”, the opener With a very quickly recognizable sound structure, there are booming rhythms here that at the same time give the impression of stopping in one place. The drums still ensure further movement. With mystical tones, mixed with spherical elements, a thoroughly intoxicating track.” – Hellfire Magazin
“The songs are epic and can almost be described as soundscapes, as they incorporate everything from crushing metal riffs to peaceful ambient noise.” – Matt Petti, Beatroute Magazine
“Before the first viewing of the video, Canadian director and film-maker Doug Cook gave an introductory speech about the making of the video and working with Atomis. They created a video that perfectly complimented the band’s music and fans asked to watch it a second time (and then even a third time before the venue closed). Cook has been working with many Calgary metal bands lately, such as Divinity, Orphan Hammer and the Unravelling. He has also worked on some videos that may be a little more well known around the globe including “Breaking the Broken” by Control Denied, “Prolong the Agony” by Morta Skuld and the upcoming video for Death’s “Pull the Plug”.” – Evilg – Metal Sucks

NEWS RELEASE

Finnish Horror Squad AS I MAY Release New Scary Single “Never Stop Dreaming” Influenced by Nightmare on Elm Street Movie Series
|
|
The Finnish horror squad AS I MAY is back with a killer new single “Never Stop Dreaming”. The song is inspired by the Nightmare on Elm Street Movie Series and combines modern low riffs with a little taste of deathcore synths to bring horror chills and atmosphere to haunt your listening experience. If 80- horror movies, down-tuned riffs, and big choruses are something that you’re looking for, this is for you.
The band comments on the track:
“We all are big fans of Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Those were the first real horror movies when we were kids. I think maybe a couple of us were too young to watch those movies and also got nightmares from them, so Freddy has stayed with us all this time.”
“Never Stop Dreaming” was mixed and mastered by Christoph Wieczorek (Sawdust Recordings).

In additional news, As I May had a line change-up in early 2024 when Jani Valhola stepped out from the ranks and was replaced with Jere Koponen.
Lasse comments on Jani’s departure:
“Yeah, it’s sad to do any lineup changes. I have played with Jani for over 2 decades in different bands. Jani has been building his own mixing business for many years and it has got really strong ground now and he has tons of work with it. We have toured in 14 countries and played in many great venues, festivals, etc. together. So he has seen a lot. He has been struggling to find time for all of this. So it’s natural to keep following your dreams and build a bigger business. It’s really hard to try too many things well at the same time. We are all really going to miss him and wish him the best of luck in the future. He says thanks to all of the fans that came to see us live and listened to our music”
Formed in 2016 in Mikkeli, Finland, As I May‘s music is all about combining metal/death-core and vibes from horror movies to create a soundscape they dub HorrorCore. The band is known for big melodies, huge choruses, and hard-hitting riffs. As I May is one of the front-running acts in the new wave of Finnish metal bands being exported. Touring all over Europe, they have made a name for themselves along with over a million streams for their albums ‘Karu’ (2022) (Uprising Records) and ‘My Own Creations’ (2019) (Rock Shots Records, Spiritual Beast “Japan”).
AS I MAY is:
Lasse Hiltunen – vocals, guitars
Jere Koponen – vocals, guitars
Tipi Nokelainen – vocals, bass
Leevi Räsänen – drums

INSURRECTION Posts Hilarious “Honest Trailer” For “The Gathering” Music Video From New Album “Obsolescence”

As fans of the famously funny Honest Trailers series (made by the Screen Junkies YouTube channel), Canadian groovy and heavy-hitting death metal outfit INSURRECTION have created their own “honest trailer” for their latest music video “The Gathering” unleashed this past September in support of their new album “Obsolescence” released label Bam & Co. Heavy. The trailer showcases that in addition to delivering heavy riffs and bashing drums to fans, the band is also more than capable of delivering a few laughs, even if it’s at their own expense.
Vocalist Stef Jomphe comments:
“We had a ton of fun shooting the video for “The Gathering” and couldn’t just waste the 3+ hours we had on tape. We’re all fans of YouTube series like “[band] shreds” and, of course, “Honest Trailers” so it just made sense to put this together. Plus Mart’s voice was made for this job.”
Watch the Honest Trailer for Insurrection’s “The Gathering” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qo2m9GBKHZs
The original music video that the trailer is based on can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OloWe37IY04
“Obsolescence” is the band’s first full-length in seven years, and is the fifth studio album that represents a culmination of everything they’ve worked on over the last twenty years, with both familiar (original) faces, as well as fresh blood in the lineup. The music addresses social and political themes through bilingual lyrics in both English and French.
Throughout their existence, INSURRECTION has gained a notable reputation on stage throughout Canada with tours covering coast to coast, including performances at festivals such as Montebello Rockfest, Trois-Rivières Metalfest, and Decimate Metalfest along with sharing the stage with bands like Cannibal Corpse and the Black Dahlia Murder.
The concept of “Obsolescence” is reflected throughout the album, and the band took things a step further by ending the record with a 3-song trilogy called The New Uprising. The trilogy which includes sub-themes of demagogy and elitism, as well as reflections on the death penalty, tells the cryptic story of a robotic uprising that is actually a metaphor for the rise of political extremism in the world.
One easter egg that long-time INSURRECTION fans may notice is that, like many of their other albums, The Obsolescence starts with the final notes from their previous 2017 album, “Extraction”.
The band comments on “Obsolescence”:
“We think people are going to really enjoy the mix of the sound they’ve come to know and love alongside some new ingredients. ‘Obsolescence’ brings together both people who have been in the band for 20+ years, and people who have only recently joined. It gives the music both a familiar and a fresh sound that we’re really excited to share. Some songs are going to be immediate fan-favourites, and others we think are really going to grow on people. Ultimately, we want people to have fun. The band is sort of like an onion, in that there’s something immediate there that’s fun, catchy, and of course, heavy. But for people who want to keep peeling the layers back, they’ll find some unexpected harmonies, some lyrics with a deeper meaning to them. Admittedly a lot of people may also need to learn a second language (French or English) to actually understand all the lyrics. Ultimately, there’s something there for everyone. If you want to just rock out and have fun, you’ll enjoy our music. And if you want something that goes a bit deeper, you’ll also find that.”
Recommended for fans of Misery Index, Testament, and Nevermore, “Obsolescence” was released on September 13th from Bam & Co. Heavy and is available at the following links:

“From the slow, chugging intro to the fast, thrashy chorus, this is pure, unadulterated death metal with plenty of doomy and thrashy elements to keep people on their toes. The band have been at it for 20 years, and this song (The Gathering) is proof that they aren’t slowing down any time soon.” – Decibel Magazine
“This new single (Bless the Machine) goes flat-out right from the start, launched by an extended, serrated-edge scream, rapidly thrusting grooves, and a blizzard of mechanistic yet maniacal riffing. Intestinally deep gutturals proclaim their murderous prayer as the music occasionally seems to dismally moan and wail. The drums methodically chop, but while razor-sharp in their execution they also prove to be just as berserk as the fleet-fingered contortions of the fretwork. And yes, the song includes a head-spinning guitar solo that does sound like a refugee from Castlevania. It’s a hell of a wild, adrenaline-fueled gallop, further fueled by doubled voices screaming, but the song also frequently does sound like malicious machines ecstatically stitching steel through blasted flesh and broken bones — and like the piteous agonies of their victims.” – NoCleanSinging
“the group continues its metallic death proposition and this fifth album (Obsolescence) is intended to be as refreshing as an autumn swim in the Ottawa River. In other words, it keeps you alive and wakes you up.” – Ars Media QC
“Seven years have passed since their album Extraction. Be warned: it’s not in vain. A real punch in the throat! Brutality wall to wall. Despite the pandemic, the guys from Insurrection haven’t taken a break…. Obsolescence leaves you wanting more. For fans, you’ll be well served. For those who didn’t know them, now is a great time to discover them. 8.8/10” – Metal Universe
“Insurrection de Gatineau pulls no punches with Obsolescence which will be released in mid-September. After listening to their two extracts, Bless The Machine and The Gathering, clearly it’s going to be the bomb!” – Thorium Magazine
“Insurrection have easily out-done themselves with Obsolescence. This is, without doubt, world-class, groove-heavy death metal that can go toe to fucking toe with any band in the sub-genre. The production and mix is second to none, perfectly capturing the unique intensity of the songs.” – All Father Metal
“Another fine little slab of death metal from Canada’s Insurrection… Obsolescence is quite varied, first by having songs sung in English and French, but above all their death metal goes anywhere from crunchy death/thrash to melodic death metal to Swedish-style old-school death metal, and hell, some of the USDM school as well while they’re at it. So, they’re kind of all over the place but the album is cohesive, and this little musical rollercoaster stays on the tracks the whole time. The melodic passages are especially catchy, and so are the growls (mostly decipherable) with the vocal lines and some of the lyrics sticking around once it’s all over. Well done. 4/5” – The Metal Crypt
“Obsolescence is a very successful fourth album, once again combining the technique of the Quebec scene and the groove of an old man Gojira or one Revocation, all sprinkled with a good dose of plump violence. In short, we’re having a great time !” – Eklektik Rock
“Insurrection reflect today’s death metal scene rather well. On Obsolescence, we can appreciate clean production, crushing riffs, and a level of technical proficiency that, though elaborate, doesn’t devolve into something too complicated. It’s still easy to find the groove in each of the tracks. Hence, it’s somewhere in the middle between a melodic death metal band like The Black Dahlia Murder and more technical acts like Beyond Creation… it’s a fun listen!” – Heavy Music HQ
“a mangy in-your-face board with rich grooves, some thrashy set pieces and a noticeably thumping bass that knows how to shake up the pit of the stomach a bit, especially after breakfast. ” – PowerMetal.de
“If a well produced and well balanced variety of dynamic extreme metal with a liberal amount of switches back and forth between thrash metal and extreme metal territories is music that tend to interest you, this is an album that should appeal to you.” – Viking in the Wilderness
“Nice and meaty death/melodic death. Catchy groovin stuff!” – Moshpit Radio 89.9 FM WORT (Madison, WI)

“Super Monster Party Gotta Go Fast in Their Tribute to Sonic the Hedgehog, “Blue Hurricane”” – Metal Sucks “Super Monster Party’s Single “This Is Doom!” is a Love Letter to the Gore-Filled First-Person Shooter” – Metal Sucks
““Okay,” grins livewire Super Monster Party frontman Rei Sega. “Now we’re gonna do something different…” It’s one of the understatements of the weekend as the video game-obsessed crew oversee an incredibly unhinged flash flood of colour and chaos. Based out of Miami, they’re the closest thing to local favourites that 70K has on offer and a packed-in audience throw everything into seeing them steal the whole damn show. Punters chucking Mario Kart shells at each other across the room. Dozens of special outfits, from a black metal Pikachu to Ronald McDonald and Grimace. Some giant pink monster, possibly an obscure Pokémon, ‘laying its eggs’ in the middle of it all. There are circle-pits, conga lines, punters crowdsurfing in inflatables from the pool and more chaos than you can wave a controller at. And SMP have the songs to match, from bonkers bops like Dance Dance Revolution (Til The Death) to Blue Hurricance (a speed metal banger about Sonic The Hedgehog) and smashing closer This Is Doom!. The games have just begun.” – Kerrang (2025 – 70 Tons of Metal Live Review)
“Rage Quit is just so much fun. Very much one which suits the metal community as so many of us are also gaming nerds, and the tunes aren’t throwaway crap either…. played well, tongue firmly in cheek, and rounded off well with the interludes. Very much one to look forward to.” – Moshville Times
“Rage Quit balances heavy riffs, melodic hooks, and varied styles to pay tribute to video game culture. It feels cohesive yet unpredictable, each track a carefully crafted homage that never loses the adrenaline-charged atmosphere of the album. From the crushing bass lines to the soaring guitar solos, each hits with maximum impact. Rage Quit is an invitation to relive gaming’s glory days through the lens of modern metal. With its flawless integration of game references and electrifying soundscapes, Super Monster Party has crafted a release that’s not only enjoyable but also groundbreaking in its dedication to celebrating the shared love of music and video games.” – Amplify The Noise
“SUPER MONSTER PARTY’S “RAGE QUIT” Album Is A Masterpiece Of Epic Proportions” – Horror Patch
“Video game nerds unite! Metal band Super Monster Party have just released their new album “Rage Quit” and if you love your metal heavy and fast (aside from one ballad) with intermittent narration between tracks for the full-on concept experience, well your day has arrived. Each track is centered on old school classics like Mortal Kombat, Doom, Sonic The Hedgehog, Zelda, Mario Bros & Castlevania among others. The perfect soundtrack while conquering the pixelated universe.” – WJOE – Findlay’s Home for Rock & Roll

About The Album Artwork:
The album artwork is a nod to the original style used in many Sega Genesis games.
About the album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):
The album is a nostalgic journey through the eyes of “the champion”. A young boy who enters the fictional world of Permadeath where Video Games are real and most certainly, dangerous. Song by Song you travel through these different games and take on the role of the hero or villain as the truth unfolds layer by layer.
Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):
Altered Beast – Inspired by the 1988 Sega classic of the same name. It was one of the very first games I ever played on the Sega Genesis. It’s intense right from the start just like the game.
Upon The Triforce – Inspired by the 1986 NES classic Zelda. I wanted to write a song that took you on Link’s journey.
This is Doom! – Inspired by the classic 1993 PC game. It goes loud and hard from the start and doesn’t stop.
Another Castle – This monster ballad is inspired by the 1985 Original Mario Bros video game. It paints a picture of loving someone but she’s somewhere else.
Test Your Might – Inspired by the original Mk1 and Mk2 video games from 1992 and 1993. Intense and epic just like the game.
Blue Hurricane – Is inspired by the original Sonic games of the 90’s such as Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Knuckles. It was one of the first video games I had ever played. I wanted it to sound epic and of course, fast.
It’s Resident Evil – Inspired by the 1996 Capcom Zombie Horror Game. It’s dark and broody with a very catchy chorus. It’s a humorous and dark type of song.
Castlevania – Inspired by the 1986 NES classic of the same name. It’s catchy and made to make you sing along from the very beginning.
Dance Dance Revolution (Till the Death) Inspired by the 1999 video game dance sensation. It’s punchy with electro beats and catchy melodies for everyone to sing and dance along to.
Earthworm Jim – Inspired by the 1994 sci-fi shoot of the same name. It’s fast, unpredictable, and epic.
Maximum Carnage – Inspired by the 1994 classic of the same name. It’s the last song I wrote on the album. It’s wild with its own twists and turns. I just like Cassidy himself.
One Winged Angel – Inspired by villain Sephoroth of the 1997 Final Fantasy 7 video game. I wanted to create an epic movie score-type vibes with elements of black metal and power metal.

SUPER MONSTER PARTY is a band for all video game nerds, jump’n’run enthusiasts, metalheads, 90s kids, weirdos, and everyone in between – a metal band that’s all about video games, singing from the heroes or villains introspective point of view. And: They also have their own, free-to-play, old school nostalgia-inspired 2D jump’n’run game – ‘Permadeath’ (available at https://www.supermonsterparty.com) – with a soundtrack consisting of the instrumentals of their own powerful tracks.
Long story short: SUPER MONSTER PARTY’s music sounds like what your dearest classic video games would sound like if they’d grown up with you during the last decades, while the lyrics take you on a captivating journey into the mind of your favorite gaming protagonists, good guys, and bad guys. The band’s music as well as their game transport the recipient into the world of Permadeath, a colorful blend of classic 16-bit pixelated video game world replicas, which you as “The Hero/Champion” have to conquer, while the soundtrack ties the whole experience together and sucks you into SUPER MONSTER PARTY’s unique universe.
Rocking together since 2020, SUPER MONSTER PARTY have already gathered a lot of XP, having a bunch of achievements under their belt, such as four released albums: Permadeath (2020), SideQuest (2021), Game Genie (2023), and Up, Up, Down, Die (2023). The band is the concept of singer/songwriter Rei Sega and features notable members Emilio Martinez (Yngwie Malmsteen) on bass, Fern Lemus (Lions at the Gate) on the drums, Andy Alvarez (Irras One) on rhythm guitar, and Oleh Andrievsky as lead guitarist.
Their intense, melodic, catchy, and heavy sound shows influences of The Misfits, Rhapsody, Slipknot, NOFX, and Van Halen. The variety of different influences and genres, worshiped by the band, means that they are able to find the right metal sound for all game themes – each video game universe is authentically set to music, while the skills of the masterful musical chameleon that is SUPER MONSTER PARTY cannot be pinned down to one genre. No two songs sound the same, but one thing is for sure – they all rock hard.
On their upcoming album “Rage Quit”, SUPER MONSTER PARTY is telling an immersive story that will allow us to dive even deeper into the world of Permadeath. With narrational interludes between every track, they create a bond between the most beloved video games of their childhood and their music, providing a mesmerizing adventurous experience for the listeners. The new album also features Ty Christian aka Fang VonWrathenstein (Lords of the Trident) as a guest vocalist on “One Wing Angel”, as well as Denver Cooper (Vicious Rumors) guitar skills on a solo for “This Is Doom”, and Hugo Lee as guest saxophone on “Dance Dance Revolution”.
SUPER MONSTER PARTY really go all the way to deliver delicious easter eggs to their fans: a co-op with martial arts icon Daniel Pesina and fellow Mortal Kombat actor Anthony Marquez for the music video of Test Your Might or providing guest appearances by Angry Video Game Nerd James Rolfe and Glenn Fricker in This Is Doom!. Every one of this band’s music videos offers a special little nerdy treat, while serving as homages to the retro games they address. SUPER MONSTER PARTY’s music videos are something you don’t wanna miss!

What the press is saying:
“Located an hour and a half east of Calgary is the town of Drumheller, Alberta. With a population in the neighborhood of 8000 and existing smack dab in the middle of Canada’s desert and dinosaur country, it’s not a place one would immediately associate with any sort of metal scene, let alone a big-ass outdoor metal fest. But that’s where you’d be wrong. Going into its 11th year, the Loud as Hell Festival is set to roll on August 4-6th with the likes of Narcotic Wasteland, Jungle Rot and Incite headlining three days of metallic fun featuring 40 or so bands, including The Convalesence, Gorgatron, Necronomicon, Untimely Demise, Eyes of Perdition and more.” – Decibel Magazine
“Western Canada’s loudest heavy metal festival brings fans to town more known for dinos than drum solos.” – CBC Calgary
“What’s more metal than the badlands? Drumheller, AB, is known for being the dinosaur capital of the world — but it’s also the home of the Loud as Hell festival, an event celebrating none other than the loudest music known to man (and, by proxy, prehistoric reptile).” – Exclaim!
“Loud as Hell – one of Canada’s top underground metal festivals – was a metal family reunion. If you walked around the grounds, where tents covered the landscape like flowers, you would experience concert goers laughing, hugging and just enjoying the moment. The music played non-stop and the people were some of the best you’ll meet. What else do you need? If you’re a metalhead fan, mark it down for next year because this is a concert you don’t want to miss.” – Blackfalds Life
“Headbanger alert: Loud As Hell festival to ramp up the volume” – Calgary Herald
“Nevermind the bug spray and sun tan lotion, as August approaches Drumheller residents should stock up on earplugs.” – Calgary Herald
“Loud As Hell returns to the southern Alberta city for its seventh year and as its name implies, will rock the city to its core.” – Calgary Herald
“Loud as Hell has celebrated eight years in the Badlands to date, with acts from all over the world-shattering the peace and quiet of the hills in a camping and music extravaganza.” – Hanna Herald
“Drumheller with its dinosaur bones is the site of the annual Loud as Hell heavy metal festival Friday through Sunday. Dozens of the heaviest bands known to Man will be taking the stage, many of them Canadian” – Gig City

Quebec-based melodic symphonic metal band Trollwar gearing up to release their fifth record “Tales from the Frozen Wastes” on November 15, 2024. The band is excited to reveal the stunning album artwork, along with offering fans a glimpse into the dark and epic world they’ve created with a new album teaser. They share their thoughts on the recording:
“We think our album could really be described as a renewal. A renewal of our music and a new maturity for our music. We do think that you can hear it through our songs in this release. “The Unseen One” and “In the Fields of Frost” are both great songs that we wrote a couple of years ago, while “Bane of the Underworld” and “The Offering” are pretty much the new Trollwar that you should expect going forward. These two songs show a clear upgrade of how we write our music.”
“Tales from the Frozen Wastes” promises to be Trollwar‘s most complex and complete release to date, showcasing the band’s evolution towards a more melodic and symphonic sound while incorporating progressive elements. The EP features five tracks, including a prologue, that will transport listeners into a darker dimension ruled by shadows and supreme deities.
The album artwork, unveiled today, depicts a desolate landscape ruled by a higher force, where darkness looms over all. This visual representation perfectly captures the essence of Trollwar‘s music – epic and hopeful, yet dark and malicious. It is recommended for fans of Wintersun, Ensiferum, and Amon Amarth.

Top 20 2018 Metal album from Quebec by Metal Universe (Oath of the Storm LP – 2018)
“The whole record is an adventure; the sequencing flows well from song to song and is bumpered nicely by an intro that sets the mood, plus an outro that gently brings things to a close, returning the listener safely back to their respective realities. At the end of the day, I definitely think Trollwar is onto something here; they are proudly waving the folk-metal banner and are destined for big things.” – PureGrainAudio (Oath of the Storm LP – 2018)
”The vocals are abrasively savage, and the swirling keyboard melody is like ear heroin. I can’t help myself — the song pushes too many buttons for me to resist.” – No Clean Singing (Oath of the Storm LP – 2018)
“OATH OF THE STORM has a wave of well-written catchy songs, good production, lots of intensity and power as well, which is something some of the other bands lack. TrollWar is a pretty appropriate name for this enjoyable act and OATH OF THE STORM is one of the more intense Folk Metal albums out this year.” – Metal Rules (Oath of the Storm LP – 2018)
“Overall, this was an outstanding album, for a band that clearly has a lot to offer. What I can’t figure out is why no one has signed them yet? The production is excellent. They have a sophistication and complexity in their sound that few others do, yet each track is very easy to listen to. It’s like you combined the best of the old, IRON MAIDEN, with the best of the new, WINTERSUN, and you have TROLLWAR, with their own unique flair. The melodies are both playful and dangerous, and the entire album is excellent from the opener through the closer. “Oath of the Storm” is a fascinating glimpse into the soul of the band, where they let it all out there for you to enjoy. And enjoy it I did!” – 9/10 – Metal Temple (Oath of the Storm LP – 2018)
”the tracks are face smashing and memorable with enough layers to satisfy even the most tech savvy of you folksters”…….”It’s hard to necessarily give you specifics other than multiple layers of instrumentation, blast beats, keys and symphonic touches with shredding guitar and vocals.”- Folk Metal.NL (Oath of the Storm LP – 2018)
“TROLLWAR deliver “Oath of the Storm”, a strong second work that should not only be interesting for fans of FINNTROLL and ENSIFERUM… The Canadians’ independent, accordion-driven folk black metal proves that real fighting roles don’t just inhabit Scandinavia and the surrounding area. Then a resounding “kippis!” or an elegant “à votre santé!”. 4/5″ – Stormbringer
“Uncompromising and lovable – Oath Of The Storm… Conclusion: “Oath Of The Storm” is an interesting folk metal album and for fans of EQUILIBRIUM or FINNTROLL. TROLLWAR is characterized by good song progression and incredible joy in playing… So if you’re still looking for a Christmas present, you can grab it here without hesitation.” – Metal.de

“Am I Invisible and is a sonic soiree in waiting for those who like their metal I the neighbourhood of early Machine Head, post-Roots Sepultura, Lamb of God and Fear Factory resplendent with big guitars, bigger grooves and the biggest choruses.” – Decibel Magazine
“… the song (“How Strong You Are”) includes an anthemic and inspirational chorus, where the vocals rise into impassioned singing. But don’t expect music that feels like it’s seeing the world through rose-colored glasses. The music itself puts up with no excuses, but instead punches fast and damned hard. Backed by battering percussion and thundering basslines, the song includes fiery, writhing riffage and hard-slugging, high-howling hardcore fury. It does soar in the catchy chorus, but even there the vocals also rabidly snarl, and the band always return to pile-driving the listener’s neck, punctuated by some start-stop bursts of high-speed jackhammering and gruesomely growled words. On top of all that, the song includes a fluidly slithering and swirling guitar that itself spirals high, and a finale in which the vocals become truly harsh and scarring while the band inflict one last brute-force beating.” – NoCleanSinging
“”Am I Invisible” by BornBroken is a masterful exploration of the human experience. Its blend of aggressive metal with deeply personal themes creates an album that is both thought-provoking and sonically impressive.” – Din Intunerec
“BORNBROKEN, a name to remember which risks making a lot of noise with this monstrous and devastating new album from Neo Death Thrash groove with a little touch of subtlety.” – OdyMetal
“a solid slab of metal with no time for melodic interludes and once it gets on course, they do not deviate one iota. It’s this blinker on approach makes the album as strong as it is… a powerful statement of intent.- Metal Epidemic
“Am I Invisible is a narrative that invites one to reflect on their own experiences. Each track, from the overwhelming stress of “7 Mondays” to the introspective nature of “Will You Remember,” is a chapter in a broader story about the highs and lows of life. BornBroken’s dedication to their craft is evident. They’ve poured their hearts into this album and it shows in the intensity of their performances and the authenticity of their lyrics. It’s an exceptional and bold exploration of the struggles we all face and is music that speaks to the heart of the human experience while delivering relentless metal energy.” – Amplify The Noise
