Rockshots Records – Heavy Metal Opera Signum Draconis Shares Video “Whirlwind of Lovers“

Out Nov 12th – The Divine Comedy: Inferno

Rockshots Records will be releasing on November 12th, 2021, Signum Draconis‘ heavy metal opera of Inferno, from The Divine Comedy written by Dante Alighieri.

Featuring 17 songs by the band all sung in English, the double CD album is the first in a triptych of the complete work of Dante’s magnum opus with Purgatory and Paradise to follow, and will also feature duets with selected special guest vocalists, narrations of selected chants, and an orchestral accompaniment by the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra and Choir.

Last month the first single “Gate of Hell (Arrival of Charon)” was shared and today, the band unveils their next track “Whirlwind of Lovers” with a new video in preview to the concept full-length, which can be viewed at https://youtu.be/SC5Z9fPEGyA

“We arrived at Chant V of Hell, which for many people is the most beautiful chant of the entire Divine Comedy… Hell reserved for lovers. Dante in this chant invites us to reflect on how a false passion can lead to decadence and that it shouldn’t be confused with true love. Enter the scene our guest star the amazing soprano Ms. Ksenia Glonty who plays the character of ‘Francesca’. It is a theme with a somewhat more commercial style, with a tragic/romantic air in which both its intro and its outro suggest or share an almost gothic style, with an interesting first duel between keyboard and guitar in the solo part.“ adds guitarist Oscar Grace.

Signum Draconis takes their name from the medieval knights’ Order of the Dragon, and has opted for a classic 80s-influenced metal sound in homage to the rock and metal icons that inspired them to be musicians, and aim to produce a truly musical, timeless and epic recording that will absorb and reward from repeated and dedicated listening.

Guitarist and composer Oscar Grace reflects on the history of the project:

“The story of Signum Draconis can be said to begin in 2010, after two years crossing what felt like a personal hell, I was sitting in my car gazing at the sky when a message came to me as it were, a vision clear as day: ‘Put The Divine Comedy to music!’ At that moment Signum Draconis was born. I returned home immediately and hunted out an old copy of Dante’s masterpiece I had owned for years and began furiously reading. Two full years of study and research followed, reading and re-reading all three books many times and even traveling to Florence to visit the 13th Century poet’s own house, trying to envisage what it would have been like to be him and the world in which he lived his story.”

It took two years to extract the parts that would form the material for the songs, and a further year working with my good friend Frederick Pollock to compose the lyrics, bringing to each song its own meaning whilst maintaining the thread that binds all the songs together, at all times remaining faithful to the source and paying the utmost respect to the poet Dante with regards to the correct register with perfect meter and rhyme in English.

I believe Dante’s Inferno perfectly suits the musical style of Heavy Metal, but given the epic scale and cultural importance of Dante’s books, I wanted to bring something else to the music, something that lent grandeur and elegance, and to that end, I began to write parts for a symphony orchestra, in an old-fashioned way, with a fountain pen and sheet music and no new technology to guide my hand.”

Overall, this project took four years to compose the music for the band as well as the orchestra and along the way Oscar Grace searched for the companions who would join him on this voyage of grand musical ambitions. The first was Francesco Micieli, the drummer with whom he had already worked on other projects, then Max Morelli to be the voice of the band, and later on, after an arduous search, Oscar Grace found Filippo Martignano for keyboards and Stefano Antonelli on bass.

Once all the compositions were finished the band set about recording in the Domination Studio of San Marino, taking advantage of the experience and professionalism of Simone Mularoni as a sound technician. For the recording of the orchestral parts, Signum Draconis chose to work with the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra, having spoken with the director, David Hernando Rico, who helped them enormously and who showed such enthusiasm for the music and the project overall.

Niagara Falls’ VARIUS Unveils “Lament of Dissonance” Off Forthcoming “Concordance”

Track Premiere via Bravewords

New EP “Concordance” Out November 5th

Hailing from Niagara Falls, Canada, Varius brings forth a new EP “Concordance” that aims to challenge genre boundaries, more so than any of their previous releases. The second single “Lament of Dissonance” can now be enjoyed with a visualizer video currently being premiered over at Bravewords HERE.

“Lament of Dissonance” balances between a relatively straightforward groove track and an experimental piece. The song begins with melodic guitars before descending into a crushing groove riff in the verses. The band explains further:

“The track came about in a different way for us, originating from a piano piece that our drummer, Vlad, had written. We worked together to rearrange the melodies and other parts for guitar and bass, adding more details and riffs along the way until the song took on its own identity. It became one of the groovier, more straightforward tracks on the EP, and easily represents the heaviness of this album. We worked together lyrically as well, telling the story of a genius composer cracking under the pressure of expectations from their audience, before channeling their doubt into a masterpiece. To top it off, the end of the song has a certain twist that keeps with the experimental tradition of Varius, and it stands out to us as a special track.”

While the song takes a personal perspective from this individual and describes the burden of living up to the demands of a hungry audience, Varius embraces the stage, aiming for tightness and consistency in our individual parts, as well as our tempo and groove as a band. One area where they really stand out is with frontman, Joey Scaringi, a local FM radio host and talented public speaker, who has a great personality for a frontman with his energetic stage presence. Passion and dedication have provided them opportunities such as sharing the stage with bands like Beyond Creation and Ninjaspy.

The progressive, melodic death metal of Varius is suitable for anyone with an open mind, especially those who enjoy Children of Bodom, Hypocrisy, and Lamb of God.

“Concordance” comes out on November 5, 2021

Album / Single Title: The End Of Summer (feat. Björn Strid)
Release Date: Oct 15, 2021
Label: TrackPants Productions
Distribution: Distrokid

For fans of Slipknot, Soilwork, Lamb of God

“The End Of Summer is the first of 4 singles that will make up the perceived idea of a 4th release. With Covid-19 running wild and having released our most ambitious offer to date with “Of Strength And Sorrow”, we were forced to shelve plans of a return to the road after a 3 year hiatus.  With life, death, and everything in between determining the pace in which we advanced, we’ve decided to take a slower and more focused approach to creating new music.  Of Strength and Sorrow wasn’t given a proper presentation, so we will be relaunching the band by presenting even newer music in smaller doses, the first offering being “The End Of Summer”.” – Dave Sheldon – Exes For Eyes

“The End Of Summer is basically a metaphor for the amazing quality of life we have all taken for granted.  The song is about people becoming soft. We don’t know what true adversity is..none of us. We are the genetic products of strong people who survived and we’ve let all of that go.  I really do believe we are seeing the end of that era.” – James Arsenian – Exes For Eyes

“EXES FOR EYES have shown that they have matured sonically, completing an album that is darker without abandoning the soundscapes their fans have grown to love with their massive groove.” – The Rockpit

“pulverizing grooves…” – Calum Slingerland / Exclaim

“…specifically to please the musicians and not to follow any trends or fit into any category. If you check out other reviews, you’ll see that no one can seem to agree on what type of music Exes For Eyes is and that’s a great thing.” – Jason Wellwood/Earshot

=======================================

STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS ABOUT THE BAND

1. All band members can drive…however, On tour, Dave is the only one allowed to drive.

James was the last one to get his driver’s license (age 35?), but Dave has a fear of not being in control of the wheel at any given time.  Aside from a brief 45min stint on the 2014 west coast CDN tour where Graham drove, Dave has driven to and from every show since 2011.

2.  At one time we DID have 2 guitarists, but there was never a Randy Doyle.

As noted in The Ampler Grid’s liner notes, Randy Doyle was named 2nd Guitarist.

The name was actually derived from the rig used to play backing tracks for additional guitar work live.

Randy (Randall RH200 amplifier) Doyle (Doyle Audio Engineering 4×12 speaker enclosure)

3.  James enforcefully escorted a promoter to an ATM to withdraw our guarantee after a poorly promoted out-of-town show.  In 2008 (prior to creating EXES) James and Dave were tour mates in other bands.  We played an out-of-town show in Liverpool, Nova Scotia that was of poor promoting/attendance.  After the show, the promoter tried to run, but was intercepted by James and EXES Alum Evan Rose (not Randy Doyle).  They walked the promoter to the bank on the other side of town to withdraw a partial amount of the funds promised for the performance.

EXES FOR EYES is a project born of an overwhelming amount of mutual respect and admiration between two men. A respect for one another’s work ethic, musical proficiency, stylistic taste and of course, for each other as people. The concept of blindness, be it willing, involuntary, inherent or otherwise is so foreign and far removed from anything within the realm of experience for these men.

However as the process has begun to create this music, it has become apparent how limited one’s own vision can be when staring at the broad side of limitless potential and ambition. With the musical vision of Dave Sheldon (ex-Annihilator, Man With Target) and the lyrical conception of vocalist and frontman Big James (Endast, Authors) the project is very quickly taking shape into something more than either anticipated. The hope is to see the world of metal in a new light, with EXES FOR EYES.

Montreal, QC – October 13, 2021

Rockshots Records – Greek Heavy Metal THIRTY FATES New Music Video “The Pretender” Off Upcoming Album “Circus Black”

New Album “Circus Black” Out December 10th

Rockshots Records will be releasing Greece’s Thirty Fates‘ new album “Circus Black” on December 10th, 2021. The upcoming full-length is a 9 track anniversary record to celebrate the trio consisting of brothers Elias and Nick Tzintzilonis and Stelios Papakostas thirty years in heavy metal as friends and bandmates.

In preview to the record’s release, the band is sharing their new music video for their second single “The Pretender”, a classic heavy metal song with great riffs that lyrically reflects the changes of a human personality to survive day by day.

Watch the music video on Rockshots Records‘ YouTube channel

The history of Thirty Fates begins in 1988 when they introduced themselves to the world in a band named Metal Invaders, which was soon changed to Black Fate. Under that moniker, they released a 4-track demo (1991), but soon after Elias (guitars) continued on to other various bands. Stelios (vocals) went on to a solo pop career releasing singles and touring all around Greece, along with forming the band Blow. Nick (drums) went on to other rock-heavy-pop bands, touring also as a freelancer and continuing on with Black Fate with four amazing musicians, where they released a self-titled EP (2001) and four full-lengths “Uncover” (2002) (Secret Port Records), “Deliverance of Soul” (2009) (Asiral), Between Visions & Lies (2014) (Ulterium Records) and “Ithaca” (2020) (Rockshots Records).

The trio of Thirty Fates explain how their reunion came to be:

“We felt the need to reform the band after so long time for our thirst of playing music together again. It came out spontaneously when we met each other five years ago, rehearsing the old staff reminiscing the good old times. Then we decided to re-record our first demo and some spare old songs, as we had all the efforts for making a record come to life. Seemed from the beginning we knew what exactly we wanted to do. Making music after so long, was a joyful ride from the past to the present & we really enjoyed it. For all our friends & loyal fans, who have followed for thirty years & also for our new friends. We hope you enjoy our music. It’s worth a listen.”

“Circus Black” is nine tracks of classic melodic heavy metal, with four tracks (Indifferent People, The Edge of Destiny, Be Free, The Pretender) from their 1991 demo, two unreleased tracks from the ’80s, and three tracks from Black Fate’s 2001’s rare ep along with a brand-new song. The album is for those who truly enjoy 80’s classic heavy metal in the vein of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Queensryche, Dio, and Ozzy Osbourne.

“This did not happen on purpose, but if you follow the track listing, it’ll feel like a concept album. From the circus visual till the last song, it represents the simple human needs, the ways someone searching himself, how intensifies himself in the society trying to find substance. For sure this belongs to the metal community.” adds the band.

Thirty Fates‘ new album “Circus Black” is due out December 10th via Rockshots Records.

Both sonically and lyrically, the debut EP from Bone Tower, “We All Will Die One Day” represents a collective status of disarray. Challenging speed and complex rhythms serve to accelerate unfavourable feelings to the forefront of your mind.

The first single off this succinct record is “Mangled Wounds”, the words in which are totally up for interpretation and expresses a couple of different personal thoughts. According to the band, it was written both literally, outlining repeated trauma; as well as figuratively, about how one might process anxiety and depression. They continue to explain in their own words:

“Opening abruptly with tremorous blast beats and rattling vocals, this tune wastes no time in delivering its taunting message. With a sense of urgency, the cryptic lyrics rest upon escalating guitar licks, as drums rapidly push this anthem to the point of no return. Briefly, you are allowed to catch a quick breath, only to be slingshotted into a barrage of open chugs. The mainline ‘mangled wounds torn open again…’ is chanted back at you, and you are plunged into the second interlude track, ‘Cower Away’.”

The eight tracks on the EP come in at just over nine minutes, but capture a full array of raucous violence. “We All Will Die One Day” is abrasive, pissed off, and fatiguing. If you’re into that kind of thing, you’ll like it.

Bone Tower is a fresh group having started in February of this year, they came together with the sole purpose of creating this record, and have delivered on that with this auditory assault. The band worked collaboratively writing and performing the songs, it was produced, mixed, and mastered by Michael Bowers and the album artwork was done by Jonas Deviller.

For fans of grindcore and death metal, Bone Tower is suitable for fans of Full of Hell, Pig Destroyer, and Cryptopsy.

The single “Mangled Wounds” can be heard via its premiere on IDIOTEQ HERE.

The EP “We All Will Die One Day” will drop on November 5, 2021 via No Funeral Records & Fresh Outbreak Records.

About:
Bone Tower got its start early in 2021, with the sole purpose of channeling built-up negative energy and creating a hectic, pissed-off sounding record. Hailing from Atlantic Canada they got straight to the point through pummeling angry death metal.

Bone Tower is the musical equivalent of the chaos ensuing globally since last year. An angry jab back at the universe for anyone who was angry and watched the world unfold with racial upheaval, conservatives and conspiracists coming out of the woodwork against Covid, economic regression with millions losing jobs, the entire world changing beneath our feet, and for the politicians who claimed to be on our side but continue to fight against the truth.

The trio of Jonas DeViller (vocals/electronics/lyrics), Sean Carroll (guitar/bass), and Michael Bowers (guitar/bass/vocals) is a seasoned one at that and they were able to quickly write and produce their debut EP ‘We All Will Die One Day’ in two weeks. It came together as a whole very quickly and organically.

This is just the start for Bone Tower, they already have a follow-up record in the works. As of now, they are mostly a recording project but they intend on eventually playing shows. When they do finally play live, it’s bound to be just as fucked up as the recording.

EP ‘We All Will Die One Day’ is due out November 5, 2021.

#7 – Canada’s College Radio Loud Chart For the Week Ending: Tuesday, March 29, 2022 (Earshot)

“It’s raw, dystopian, apocalyptic and there’s no way I’m the only catching vibes of Tool’s “Prison Sex” and Voivod’s “Ravenous Medicine” from the video and Orchid, old Converge, Dystopia and Combatwoundedveteran from the tune (Beta Particles) itself.” – Decibel Magazine

“The music (which could be thought of as a blending of powerviolence and math metal) genuinely sounds insane — furiously so — and yet something about the experience makes sense. Not just because it sounds like people throwing away mental shackles and conventions, but also because the music simultaneously gets its hooks in your head. There’s a sense of order and precision of execution in it, at the same time as it seems completely disruptive of order.” – No Clean Singing

“Aside from grind, you’re getting a decent dose of mathcore, but even more often, the music veers into territory that I think would appeal to screamo fans. These parts are governed by clean-ish, anguished vocals and additionally infused with melancholy by the guitar. While they do the most to define the mood of the album, I’d still hesitate to pigeonhole it, as the band pivots from style to style often enough to give the music a nicely weird, free-form feel. If you’d like a take on the post-nuclear apocalypse that isn’t filled with boring zombies and mutants, look no further.” – Toilet Ov Hell

“All in all, “Origins” pretty much kicked me in the balls and announces that here is a new force to be reckoned with in the grindcore world.” – Wormwood Chronicles

“It’s carnage but carnage you’ll want to experience over and over again.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Origins is a deliciously disgusting album, there transpires a form of sincerity, without artifice or make-up. In about twenty minutes, Depleted Uranium will take you apart like a puzzle! This music is so visceral that it explodes the stomach and the ears.” – Aux Portes du Metal

“‘Origins’ is not only an impressive feat for a one take live performance, but it really has a lot of violent energy and the twenty minutes or so flies in. You sometimes find that powerviolence/grindcore can be a little one note (I know, I know, it’s kinda the point) but Depleted Uranium’s work has a lot more variety to it and isn’t merely noise for music’s sake. If you like your music ugly, visceral and yet a bit thought provoking then Depleted Uranium are going to be for you!” – The Killchain Blog

Top Clockwise: Corey (Bass), Nick (Drums), Murray (Guitar, Vocals), Babak (Vocals)

Failure is the only way to learn. Expression is the only way to live. Communication is the only way to see. Silence is the only way to hear.

Spanning over 10 years together as a band, Depleted Uranium delivers a mathematically precise, fast-paced and aggressive sound. Formed by friends and former bandmates, Andrew Murray (guitar), Nick Misasi (drums), Babak Kazemzadeh (vocals), and Corey Stinson (bass) have been the core of the Depleted Uranium for most of its existence.

The intensely delivered music of their live performances was captured in their first full-length, self-produced, and self-titled album released in 2018. In 2022, they will follow this up with “Origins”, a record that contains material from the band’s first years and gives a history of who they are and where they come from. In their youth, as many are, they were dissatisfied with their current surroundings and they channeled built-up emotions into the music.

Delivering a precise, intense, non-stop, energy-filled, technical performance with a custom strobe light show every time, Depleted Uranium plans to continue evolving as a band and begin writing new music in the near future.

===================================================

Describe the album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY)

Origins is our band’s history of who we are and where we come from. It is meant to be listened to in reference to our self-titled, debut release; Depleted Uranium, to give a perspective that will also further be referenced in our future releases. Both lyrics and music hold a high tension and are expressed without hesitation. Both are relevant to our time and space of creation and are embodied with existential yet direct meaning. The Album as a whole was a statement of youth being dissatisfied with the existing conditions of reality and channeling our experience into what it is today. “If one cannot withstand the hot glow of anger upon the discovery of a wrong, then time is wasted thinking deeply”. Our band name, our lyrics, and our music are a product of the system with the right individuals as the recipe. Our message in the album is to strive for personal freedom and to focus on what you want rather than what you don’t. This album was a path out for all of us.

Describe each song track by track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY)
Lyrics notes from Babak. Music notes from Andrew

1.     Depleted Uranium: Lyrically, it makes a case for general apathy towards “the system” while accepting that you’re on your own to navigate through life.  No one’s coming to save you. Figure your shit out. Musically, we wanted to be in and out in under 1 minute.

2.     The Tear and the Flood: Lyrically, it is ultimately about death.  It’s about accepting that you will end and maybe making that happen before it happens on its own. Musically, it was to create the shock of transition, a before and after moments like a car accident or amputation, and you will never go back ever again.

3.     Alpha Particles: Lyrically – ”Life will end, and what counts is how you felt when you could breathe” along with the never-ending quest of “why?”. Musically, it was as we do with our music, but it dawned the first 5/4 time on our journey in an attempt to fuse Power Violence with Math Metal. It evolved our dual vocals and the band as a whole. To this date, we have never tired of playing it.

4.     Van Halen Radiation Belt: Lyrically, this song is about the concept that morality is relative and not absolute. Things aren’t so black and white;” You’re with us or you’re with the terrorists”. Musically, it was a throwback to simplified early punk song progressions, but done our way. Get in, get ‘er done and get out.

5.     Beta Particles: Lyrically, this song is about being socially marginalized.  For whatever reason.  It’s about society’s aim to “cure” those who are different.  To assimilate or destroy vs accept, by any means necessary. Musically, it was born when we were starting to solidify in our songwriting and the process was fairly quick. The big transition in the middle was due to our 4-track recorder eating the tape of the first demo recording and when we listened back, it made the song. Once Blair (2nd guitar) joined, it was the song that began highlighting the simplified dual guitar harmonies.

6.     Counter Balance: Lyrically – “How long must I buy your lies? Shut my mouth, swallow my pride? Bow my head and kneel? While you write the pages of history in blood?”. Musically, it is our longest album song at just over 3 minutes and was originally 2 different songs that got fused together, hence the length. The ending breakdown of this song sums up the journey through it, and this song truly made the music and lyrics one unit upon the end precipice of the song, along with all future rehearsals and recordings as a band.

7.     Deficiencies: Lyrics – It’s hard to change people’s minds sometimes. Musically, it was a thrash rock out song written after the intensity of Counter Balance. It is meant to bring you back to why you started making music in the first place; to rock out and have fun!

8.     Small Odds: Lyrics – “If you believe, there will be a brighter day”. Lyrics (Andrew) – The strive for freedom, however, an individual may interpret that and never give up, learning and success are based on countless failures. Musically, another throwback to Melodic Hardcore with a mathy intro. Also a change of key from many songs on the album, the idea was to keep it simple as the dual vocals are the front line.

9.     Open Wound Diaries: Lyrics: This song is about suicide. Musically, it further expressed our math itch and the simplified dual guitar harmonies. It was meant to be a thunder cloud of sound, seemingly out of control yet totally calculated while giving a dark, chaotic ambiance for the lyrics.

10.  Percentages (Bonus Track): Lyrics are about losing control of your own thoughts and mind to propaganda and mainstream thinking. “Too late, or not, it is your choice”. Musically, it was another fusion of 2 songs and a switch back to melody. It was recorded in 2008 and features Matt Kozma on bass (2007-2009) minus Corey (existing bass) and Blair (2nd guitar). It is also only available on the Physical CD of Origins as a Bonus Track. Throughout the song, it represents the album journey as it contains an influence of all songs on the album, and is to be listened to as the finale.

Canadian metallers Ravenous have partnered up with Calgary’s New Level Brewing for the release of a limited-edition beer, called ‘Speed Metal Blonde’. The beer is in celebration of “Hubris”, the upcoming second album by Ravenous, with the label designed by frontman R. A. Voltaire.

“We have had so many iconic bands and friends of ours release their own booze, it became a symbolic milestone for us! Luckily, with the support of New Level Brewing, we were able to make that milestone come to life – and it’s tasty!”

The beer is a smooth and crushable Blonde Ale for those in league with the craft beer devil, with a sophisticated and nuanced profile. Crisp, clean and refreshing, yet metal enough to be the crowd favorite at shows. Ingredients are water, yeast, barley, and hops, with oats added for a fuller body and additional sweetness.

‘Speed Metal Blonde’ is only available in Canadian markets and is limited to 1000 cans – available during all Ravenous show dates in Canada until they’re gone! The band’s next live performance will be in Calgary, AB on October 15th at Dicken for their “Hubris” album launch show. Details can be found on Ravenous‘ Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/RavenousE.H/events

They seek to inspire others to find that inner triumph and glory that drove them to form this project – whether that means starting their own band, or just finding the strength to make a change in their lives – they seek to empower their followers through every step of their journey.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – October 12, 2021

Helion Prime Releases New Music Video “Wash Away” Off Special Edition “Question Everything”

“Question Everything” Available On Digital Now! + Vinyl Pre-Order For 2022

L-R – Alex Bosson – Drums, Jason Ashcraft – Guitars, Mary Zimmer – Vocals, Chad Anderson – Guitars, Jeremy Steinhouse – Bass

For the one-year anniversary of their 2020 album “Question Everything”, American power metallers Helion Prime released a special edition of the full length digitally on October 8th, 2021 along with it being available on vinyl coming early 2022.

In support of the special edition of “Question Everything”, the band is sharing their latest music video for the opening track “Wash Away”. The song is based on Ignaz Semmelweis, the doctor who discovered the disease-fighting power of hand-washing in 1847.

The new song for the special edition album was written by guitarist Jason Ashcraft and lyricist Heather Michele with mixing and mastering done by Alex Nasla (Witherfall). The music video was filmed by Alex Nasla and Trey Xavier (Gear Gods), with editing done by Adrienne Beacco

Guitarist Jason Ashcraft adds:

“We are thrilled to share this new song and video with everyone. When we decided to release a special edition for Question Everything, I knew from the start I’d wanted to include a brand new song that continued the theme of the album. Wash Away, we feel, is one of our strongest songs to date. Showcasing all the things that make Helion Prime, Prime.”

Watch the music video for “Wash Away” at the following link: https://youtu.be/pHs11vmnbqA

The special edition of “Question Everything” was produced by Helion Prime guitarist Jason Ashcraft and Alex Nasla, who also remixed/remastered the record to better fit its vinyl experience. The original artwork also went under a small make-over for a classic “marble wall” vibe.

The bonus material on the special edition also includes cover versions of Children of Bodom’s “Angel’s Don’t Kill” with a guest guitar solo from Garrett Peters and Nightwish’s “The Pharaoh Sails to Orion” with guest vocals from Carlos Zema (Immortal Guardian) plus a guest guitar solo by Garrett Peters.

“We are so thrilled to announce this special edition release of Question Everything to help celebrate the album’s one year of life! This was such a fun album to work on and to get to relive it with you all is something we are very excited about. We are also excited to finally be coming to vinyl. It’s something we’ve wanted for a long time and we know a lot of you have asked for it. So now is the time to get your hands on this special and limited run of Question Everything.” adds the band.

Question Everything Special Edition Vinyl Video Explanation by guitarist Jason Ashcraft – https://youtu.be/MA3zrCEcZwY

“Question Everything” is Helion Prime’s first album with new vocalist Mary Zimmer, who has also accompanied the band on two separate tours of the United States. The album also saw the band’s original singer, Heather Michele, returning in a writing capacity and contributing all lyrics and melodies. Heather Michele also along with other former Helion Prime vocalist Sozos Michael and with John Yelland (Judicator/Dire Peril) add their guest vocals on the full length.

The third record is a concept album, with each song revolving around different influential figures throughout human history who had the courage to question the status quo of their respective worlds/societies, in some cases even dealing with harsh persecution as a result. Those Helion Prime chose to write about faced prejudice, mockery, ex-communication, and persecution – yet through it all, they held true to their beliefs and ideas. Time would be their greatest ally as their ideas and identities were eventually validated, oftentimes not until after their passing. They serve as an inspiration for all minds to continue thinking outside the box and staying true to themselves.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – October 12, 2021

Snakeblade Is Now Streaming Game Of Thrones Adjacent Extreme Metal Album “The Curse”

Album Stream Premiere via Bravewords

New Album “The Curse” Out October 13, 2021

Snakeblade, the one-man project of Mike Redston, came about during the Covid lockdown. He was searching for an escape from pandemic anxiety, and quickly absorbed himself in this project and recorded his first release “The Kingdom” in a month. To deepen the escape, all his lyrics surround fantasy concepts from his favorite video games and movies. Redston coins his music as “One-Man Nerdy’n’Dirty Black Metal” and this nerdiness continues with his second album “The Curse” as he explains:

“Snakeblade is where all my nerdiness gets released. On “The Curse”, I wanted to zero-in on one of my all-time favorite fantasy series – Game of Thrones. As I started writing though, more personal experiences started to creep into my lyrics. What came out is a melting pot of themes from Game of Thrones and my personal shit. Lyrics inspired by GOT mostly revolve around the plotlines of The Red Woman, Stannis Baratheon, and The Lord of Light religion. Mix all this with my own experiences of betrayal, failure, and rage and you’ve got The Curse.”

The second full-length is quite an evolution from the experience of the first. Where “The Kingdom” was an escape from reality; through “The Curse” Redston confronts reality head-on. Musically, the project has grown immensely in complexity and scale and a session drummer was hired to handle the kit. The songs are much more emotional and heavy and full of new orchestral elements of strings, pianos, and choirs. Overall, it’s much darker atmospherically and more sophisticated sonically.

Snakeblade isn’t destined to be a studio project forever, Redston says, “Live shows are definitely in the cards as I want to bring these songs to a concert setting with a ton of energy and a fun atmosphere.”

“The Curse” is ten tracks of dark, dirty, and epic non-traditional black metal, and has a total running time of 43 minutes. It was written and performed by Redston except for the drums, which were performed by Dennis Kraakman. The album artwork was done by Elizabeth Holmes.

Snakeblade embraces a wide variety of metal subgenres and is recommended for fans of Skeletonwitch, Dimmu Borgir, and Death.

“The Curse” is streaming now via Bravewords before its full release on October 13, 2021.

About:
Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, Snakeblade was formed by Mike Redston as an escapist project while the entire world was quarantined. What came out of this anxious time may surprise you though, as Snakeblade refuses to follow typical one-man black metal trends. Every song on their debut album The Kingdom explodes with energy and youthful rage, delivering a pummelling of riffs, blastbeats, and shrieking vocals. With lyrical topics of fantasy, medieval battles, lord of the rings, and video games, Snakeblade is a headbanging nerd’s wet dream. Now on their second effort, the one-man project delves into bold new territory adding orchestral and electro elements to the blackened thrashy chaos that is: The Curse.

“intense shrieks, murderous riffs, and all the fantasy black metal you need!” – Heavy Blog Is Heavy

“This new song (The Red Mage’s Seduction) is a wild but multi-faceted thrill-ride. A burst of jolting riffage launches the track, and as it grows more feverish it provokes a long, throat-ruining scream. The drums (performed by session drummer Dennis Kraakman) hammer and spit like machine guns as the bass bubbles and the guitar writhes in flames. There are chilling moments when slashing chords, slithering arpeggios, and flickering spectral solos sound like magic spells cast in sound by a viciously demented sorceror and the vocals descend into monstrous croaking growls, only to have the song erupt again in chaotic incendiary gales. The song’s feeling of magical mystery and ominous peril emerges again and rises to towering heights, elevated by grand synths and gigantic booms. Once there, an extravagant extended guitar solo lights the listener’s nerve endings on fire without relinquishing the music’s aura of sorcery run amok. The song slashes and burns again, with the elaborate layering of guitars, tumultuous percussion, and slaughtering screams creating an ecstatic finale.” – No Clean Singing

“This one man black metal project from Canada, spearheaded by Mike Redston, wastes no time in pushing the pedal to the metal and letting it all go. No, seriously; the very first track on his new album, The Kingdom, has an insanely flamboyant and satisfying guitar solo, breakneck drums, and vocal shrieks aplenty.” – Heavy Blog Is Heavy

“Snakeblade Goes Beyond Black Metal Trappings on ‘The Kingdom'” – Exclaim!

“It’s safe to say that Snakeblade’s musical genius will quickly outgrow Redston’s one-man credo, for other musicians will surely seek out his vision. That he has crafted such venomous metal that is still wildly entertaining during this pandemic is a huge accomplishment, and The Kingdom will appeal to fans of this black metal style, particularly followers of Mayhem, Borknagar and classic Slayer.” – Exclaim!

“This is absolutely my jam, and The Kingdom is one of my favorite albums of the year so far.” – Toilet ov Hell

“I am compelled to say that SNAKEBLADE most definitely delivered an utmost maddening, but enjoyably entertaining discovery that made me replay this …pretty much all day long. “The Kingdom” is an addicting spin that will blow brains & shatter windows with explosive clarity. Full of density, technical prowess & engaging captivation. This is an incredibly amazing debut album, and I will most look forward to their upcoming projects. And for a singular writing attempt, bravo! I couldn’t help but score this as a masterful piece of other-worldly malevolence which most certainly deserves a slot in your collection for sure. Check it out!” – Metal Temple

Out Now! Prog Duo ATHEMON (ft. ex-Haken) Release Debut Self-Titled Album

Progressive metal duo Athemon debut self-titled full length is now available as of October 11th, 2021, and can be heard on Flyathemon.bandcamp.com and Spotify.

Crossing paths online during the beginning of the Covid global lockdown, musicians Tom MacLean (bassist/producer, To-Mera, ex-Haken) based in the UK and Adriano Ribeiro (vocalist and guitarist) based in Brazil, used the digital world to their advantage to give rise to their new band Athemon.

“Adriano sent me his demo and it gave me goosebumps, so I was keen to get involved,” says MacLean.

From a significant evolution between demos to their final introductory recordings, MacLean and Ribeiro created a bonding friendship over musical interests that created the perfect environment to allow them to evolve and conceive their debut album.

Formed as a gateway to express their art using progressive metal music, Athemon‘s first release is a concept record that is meant to be heard as one long 50-minute track divided into nine parts.

“Full of dark and enigmatic atmospheres, this is a 50-minute concept album divided into nine songs, which tells a story about self-awareness. This is a creative release that seeks to forge the perfect alloy of darkness and beauty,” adds the band.

For the album’s recording, the duo invited a special guest drummer from Brazil, Gledson Gonçalves who added his percussionist touch to compliment each one of the nine tracks.

“As nobody goes alone in this world (even being totally alone inside one’s own mind), the songwriting process had a lonely beginning, but a very collaborative end. The beginning of this project was driven by Adriano, but nothing would fit so well if it wasn’t for the amazing connection the three of us have (Adriano, Tom, and our special guest on drums, Gledson),” says MacLean.

The lyrics for the album were written by vocalist/guitarist Adrian Ribeiro and were inspired by thoughts of how confusing reality can be if you are not taking care of your emotional side. “The thin line between what’s real and what’s not is an endless world,” adds Ribeiro.

New fans of Athemon, can expect much more to come from the pair as they already have plans to launch their second album by the end of 2022, which they are currently composing with promising results.

As for the live spectacle of Athemon, for now, the band will let the music flow until the duo can connect from across the Atlantic for their first in-person jam session.

Recommended for fans of Nevermore, Pain of Salvation, Opeth, Gojira, and Mastodon, Athemon‘s self-titled debut is available on Flyathemon.bandcamp.com, Spotify – https://spoti.fi/3arRp3G.
