Progressive rock collective LUFEH will release their highly anticipated sophomore album “Overwhelmed” on May 29th, marking a major new chapter for the band as they continue to evolve their sophisticated fusion of prog rock, metal, jazz, and Brazilian musical influences. Fans will get their first chance to hear the full record a day early with an exclusive album stream premiere on TheProgSpace at https://theprogspace.com/lufeh-overwhelmed-album-premiere/

The release follows a powerful run of singles that have steadily revealed the album’s musical depth and emotional range. “He Commands the Sun and the Stars”, the first single, is a rhythmically complex yet instantly memorable track that sets the tone for the album’s direction.
“Overwhelmed”, the cinematic title track featuring a standout violin performance from new featured vocalist Ginny Luke. “Double Dip”, a time‑shifting prog fusion piece highlighted by the exotic Bulbul Tarang. “War of Emotions”, the band’s heaviest single to date, explores the internal battles of the self.

Recorded at the legendary Sunset Sound in Los Angeles and produced by keyboardist Gera Penna, “Overwhelmed” represents LUFEH’s most refined and expressive work to date. While the band’s debut “Luggage Falling Down” leaned heavily into technicality, the new album strikes a deliberate balance: intricate musicianship paired with catchy, memorable vocal melodies designed to stay with listeners long after the songs end.

“We still have that elaborate, complicated playing, but this time every song has vocal parts and choruses that are easy to remember and sing along to. It’s complicated music that’s also catchy,” s
ays band founder and drummer Lufeh Batera.

The album also marks the arrival of Ginny Luke as LUFEH’s new featured vocalist and electric violinist. Known for her work with Foo Fighters, Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg, and more, she brings a dynamic voice and violin performances that add a new dimension to the band’s sound.

Though Lufeh Batera resides in Los Angeles and the rest of the band is based in São Paulo, Brazil, the group crafted nearly 70% of the album online, exchanging ideas daily and refining arrangements collaboratively. Longtime musical partners Deio Tambasco (guitar) and Duca Tambasco (bass) bring decades of chemistry, having played with Lufeh since the early ’90s.

The band’s creative process remains deeply collective, something Batera says defines their identity:

“Our creative process is like a drawing that passes from hand to hand. Everyone adds their own stroke until it has the right colors and depth.”

Across its eight tracks, “Overwhelmed” explores themes of pressure, renewal, duality, longing, and self‑reflection. From the rock‑opera drama of “Feels Like I’m a Ghost” to the uplifting message of “Breathe” and the spiritual catharsis of “End of the Tunnel,” the album blends technical mastery with emotional storytelling.

With influences ranging from Dream Theater and Rush to Vola, Tool, and Haken, LUFEH’s new album stands as their most cohesive and expressive work yet. It’s a record built for both musicians and melody‑seekers, complex, modern, refined, and deeply human.

About:

LUFEH is a progressive rock/metal band blending technical precision with emotional depth and genre‑bending influences. Formed by drummer Lufeh after a long hiatus from music, the band now features guitarist Deio Tambasco, bassist Duca Tambasco, keyboardist/producer Gera Penna, and vocalist/violinist Ginny Luke. Their sound draws inspiration from Dream Theater, Rush, Vola, Tool, Haken, and Brazilian musical traditions.

“What grabbed me most on the album, besides the deeply personal approach to songwriting, was the level of talent the band has. We all know that talent isn’t the measuring stick to success, but it never hurts. This band has plenty, but they don’t let it overtake their sound. This was a feel good album with plenty of substance.” – Metal Temple (2026 – Overwhelmed)

“My take on the album: I do like that Lufeh do things their own way. For me this is an exceptional album with a fresh take on traditional metal. Ginny is a gem on vocals and the use of instruments is damn good. A flawless album that deserve nothing less than the perfect 10.” – Project Metal Music

“If their debut consisted of showing their instrumental muscles, their next album Overwhelmed (released May 29) seems to focus on purely melodic choruses. It has the complexity of Haken or Rush, but with choruses that really stick in your head.” – Radio Papy Jeff (2026 – Overwhelmed)

“Lufeh has built a sound that sits at the intersection of three demanding disciplines — Progressive Rock’s structural ambition, Progressive Metal’s physical weight, and Jazz-Fusion’s harmonic and rhythmic sophistication — and has managed to do so without reducing any of the three to background texture. The integration of Ginny Luke‘s violin gives the ensemble a tonal signature that is genuinely distinctive and provides the record with some of its most memorable moments. The dual vocal format, consistently well-deployed, expands the expressive range of the material in ways that a single voice simply could not replicate. With a renewed lineup and a track record of progressive evolution, Lufeh delivers here a disciplined, technically formidable body of work that will satisfy those who take their Heavy Prog seriously.” – Progressive Rock Journal

“Very soulful breaks.Like the dynamics. The drummer is very powerful and precise. Like Rush if they were a soul band.” – CFRU 93.3 FM – Planet Groove (Guelph, ON, Canada)

“With „Overwhelmed“ LUFEH are opening a new chapter – more emotional, melodic and at the same time more powerful than ever. The title track of their upcoming album combines progressive virtuosity with haunting storytelling and marks an impressive evolution – an intense foretaste of what happened on March 29th. May 2026 is coming.” – Metalogy (2026 – Overwhelmed)

“Heavy prog shines with the new single ‘He Commands the Sun and the Stars’ from LUFEH. Dream Theater and Shadow Gallery fans will find a lot to love here including a spotlight performance from featured vocalist and electric violinist Ginny Luke. Musically the band doesn’t disappoint with soaring keys, complex percussion, driving riffs, strolling bass lines…all at a high level, which is what is demanded when you enter the sacred space of progressive rock. Just as much a beautiful performance as it is a breathtaking adventure, this track raises expectations for the new album “Overwhelmed” which can’t get here fast enough on May 29th. Catch LUFEH on your Home for the Best New Rock… W-J-O-EEEE” – WJOE – Findlay’s Home for Rock & Roll (2026 – Overwhelmed)

“Progressive hard rock’s LUFEH have just released another powerful new single, ‘OVERWHELMED (feat. Ginny Luke)’. The title track from their forthcoming album slated for a May 29th launch, this one is also like the prior single (‘He Commands the Sun and the Stars’), a masterclass of modern prog metal. Hooks that sink deep, superb performances by the band and outstanding songwriting are all on display. The anticipation for the new album is swelling with each single and based on what we’ve heard so far, we’re ready for an exceptional experience. Catch Lufeh on your Home for the Best New Rock…W-J-O-EEEE” – WJOE – Findlay’s Home for Rock & Roll (2026 – Overwhelmed)

“With Overwhelmed, LUFEH have crafted a progressive rock album that is mature without feeling restrained, technical without becoming cold, and melodic without sacrificing ambition. It is the sound of a band refining its identity while opening itself to greater emotional risk. The result is a record that feels both grand and personal, the kind of album that rewards close listening while still offering choruses, hooks, and moments of immediate impact. LUFEH are not simply flexing their instrumental muscles here. They are building songs that understand what it means to carry too much, to lose sight of the surface, and to keep reaching anyway. ‘Overwhelmed‘ may be born from pressure, but its greatest achievement is the way it turns that pressure into motion, melody, and release.” – Infrared Magazine”

Great prog album, love Feels Like I’m A Ghost song” – The Chill dude on the Couch

Prog Metal Newcomers ENTROPIST Introduces Its Concept Album “The Vision” Through “Creation”

Produced, Mixed, and Mastered by Jamie King (BTBAM, The Contortionist)

Colorado progressive metal outfit Entropist has officially announced their debut full‑length album, “The Vision,” accompanied by the release of their first single and lyric video, “Creation.” The track marks the band’s first official introduction to the metal world, offering a powerful glimpse into the album’s sweeping concept and genre‑spanning sound.

Formed through a decade‑long bond between guitarist/vocalist Solomon Smith, vocalist Parker Kitching, bassist Jeremy Smith, and drummer Matt Gleason, Entropist began in 2013 when the members met as college roommates and neighbors in Greeley, Colorado. After years of jamming, drifting apart, and reconnecting during the COVID era, the band solidified its lineup with the addition of guitarist Will Vinson, whose creativity helped elevate the project into its fully realized form.

“The Vision” is a bold, cinematic progressive metal odyssey built on a dual‑concept narrative: one story set in a fantastical world of demons, celestial beings, and the void, and another grounded in real‑life themes of mental struggle, nihilism, and the search for meaning. Written largely from the perspectives of characters within the story, the album is designed to be experienced from start to finish, with recurring motifs, callbacks, and evolving themes woven throughout.

Musically, the record spans progressive metal, djent, deathcore, metalcore, and post‑hardcore influences, while maintaining a cohesive identity. Fans of Between the Buried and Me, Meshuggah, Opeth, and The Contortionist will find familiar touchpoints, yet Entropist’s voice remains distinctly their own.

To bring the album’s massive sound to life, the band partnered with acclaimed producer Jamie King, whose work with BTBAM and The Contortionist helped define modern progressive metal. His mixing and mastering elevated the album’s intricate compositions into a unified, powerful whole.

The album’s artwork, an impressionist painting by Solomon’s wife, Shannon Bortfeldt, captures the emotional and narrative weight of the album’s opening arcs.

“This album is the culmination of over a decade of work. It contains a personal story that many can relate to, while also containing a crazy esoteric concept for those who are into that sort of thing. It gets really heavy, but has so many unexpected and even victorious moments that truly set it apart,” says guitarist/vocalist Solomon Smith.

Vocalist Parker Kitching adds, “This album is our love letter to metal. When it gets heavy, it gets very heavy, but it also has moments that let you breathe. We want listeners to feel like they’re going on a journey.”

The band’s first single, “Creation,” introduces listeners to the album’s final narrative arc. The track blends bright, triumphant chords, intricate rhythms, soaring vocals, and one of the heaviest breakdowns on the record. Lyrically, it explores themes of building something new, forging meaning, and shaping the world one wants to see.

The lyric video showcases the song’s emotional intensity and conceptual depth, offering fans their first immersive step into the universe of “The Vision.”

Fantasy Meets Prog CEPHEIDAE VARIABLE “Carving a Dragon” Opens The Gates To Debut Album “Primordial Reverie” Out Nov 2025

Photo Credit – Solo artist: Ryan Koepke – Guitar, Bass, Composition, Production

Cepheidae Variable, the one-man progressive metal project helmed by Kelowna, Canada, guitarist and composer Ryan Koepke, has officially unveiled its debut single, “Carving a Dragon,” accompanied by a playthrough video. The track serves as the first glimpse into Cepheidae Variable’s upcoming debut full-length instrumental album, “Primordial Reverie,” set for release on November 7th, 2025.

Originally conceived as a personal exploration of musical growth, Cepheidae Variable evolved into a deeply emotional and ambitious endeavour following Koepke’s father’s cancer diagnosis and the news of his own impending fatherhood.

“I stopped waiting around and created something I’d be proud of. This album became a reflection of emotional turbulence, hope, and transformation,” shares Koepke.

“Carving a Dragon” was the first track written for the album, and one of the most challenging. Inspired by Robin Hobb’s Assassin’s Quest, the song symbolizes pouring one’s soul into creation and marks the beginning of Koepke’s journey as a solo recording artist. With its energetic, uplifting fantasy feel, it stands in contrast to the moodier, sci-fi-themed tracks that follow.

“There were many times during the writing process I considered scrapping this song. The result is something that has stuck with me and has a lot of meaning to not only myself, but also friends and family who supported me,” says Koepke.

The album itself is a genre-defying instrumental narrative, weaving through symphonic fantasy, sci-fi textures, and progressive complexity. Koepke describes the sound as “spacey, weird, melodic, melancholic, happy,” and cites influences ranging from Dream Theater and Haken to Wintersun and Caligula’s Horse. Divided into three distinct acts, “Primordial Reverie” challenges listeners to experience the full arc of its story, with recurring motifs and evolving themes that reward repeat listens.

The album artwork, created by renowned collage artist Alex Eckman-Lawn, evokes feelings of loneliness, wonder, and cosmic mystery, mirroring the tonal shift that occurs midway through the album.

“I especially enjoyed this artwork because of the amount of interpretation it allows from the viewer. It was a heavy influence on the tonal shift this album undergoes.” Koepke notes.

With “Primordial Reverie,” Koepke aims to release a new album every 2–4 years, continuing to push the boundaries of solo composition and progressive storytelling. Though currently instrumental, Cepheidae Variable may evolve into a collaborative or vocal project in the future.

Recommended for listeners of Dream Theater, Haken, Intervals, Wintersun, and Caligula’s Horse, “Carving a Dragon” can be heard and watched via its playthrough premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

“Weirdo avant-garde metal band Frogg have jut shared a video for “Double Vision Roll,” and, boy, is it quirky. If you’re not yet familiar with Frogg, they are all about delivering a weird and wonderful live experience They experiment with different world instruments and songwriting ideas, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in heavy music, and you can see a little bit of that on display here. The song was produced by Frogg guitarist/vocalist Sky Moon Clark and Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, The Contortionist, Scale the Summit). Frogg are recommended for fans of weird and wild, as well as those who appreciate a little technicality in their music.” – Decibel Magazine (2025 – Eclipse)

“The band is immensely talented, and their musicianship registers off the charts… This is an album that every Metalhead should hear, for the technical brilliance alone. 8/10” – Metal-Temple (2025 – Eclipse)

“Their musical style is a kaleidoscope of genres, with a real melting pot of influences… there is no denying that there is a lot of talent on show here. There is obviously a desire to produce something unusual and it will be interesting to see where they go from here. 8/10” – The Prog Space (2025 – Eclipse)

“It’s no secret that amphibians aren’t doing so hot as a class; Frogg‘s eclectic tech is a welcome consolation prize amidst this eroding diversity. The confident creativity of these NY-based herpetologists recalls The Odious at their most unhinged—a morass of influences ranging from electronica to deathcore that sticks to my neurons like flies to a tongue. Whether channeling the brutal (“Dandelion,” despite the name, is fairly dissonant) or the ethereal (“Wake Up”‘s clean vocals and synths), Eclipse hops between genres like we breathe. Evolution willing, they’ll continue carving out a niche for themselves in the crowded tech death ecosystem.” – Roldy – Toilet ov Hell (2025 – Eclipse)

“Frogg cover seemingly contradictory bases of portentous tech-death, galloping melodic thrash and hopeful, opne chord djent. It’s smart musical alignment with their theme of something new rising from the ashes of the old.” – Metal Hammer (2020 – A Reptilian Dystopia – EP)

“FROGG is a dangerous force of Technical Metal making themselves known!” – The Circle Pit

“Technical Death rising star” – GhostCult Mag

“The music is impressively performed and written. Crazy technical menageries of Adderall-fueled obsession meshed with emotive melody just spilling out everywhere. It’s a great time, and definitely worth checking out. Definitely a band to be watching in the future.” – No Clean Singing

“The guitar work is beyond phenomenal, and the vocals are just as catchy. They aren’t 100% death metal but are really a blend of modern tech metal and death metal. I’m extremely excited to see if the band is cooking up any live shows to promote the release and am definitely keeping my eyes on this project from here on out. If you want that Decapitated/Arsis/Obscura blend of groove and technicality Frogg is meant for you.” – Technical Music Review (2020 – A Reptilian Dystopia – EP)

“This is an incredible EP, guys. Every one of these songs has made it into heavy rotation, and I am honestly so excited to hear more in the future.” – Metal Trenches (2020 – A Reptilian Dystopia – EP)

“The quality on show here is amazing for a first release and has left us salivating at the prospect of their debut album [9/10]” – Metal Noise (2020 – A Reptilian Dystopia – EP)

“Bursting into life with a colossus bang, it’s a technical monstrosity that greets listeners with Ancient Storm. It’s wild, it’s nasty but it’s built on a foundation of sharp riffs and ferocious groove.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life (2020 – A Reptilian Dystopia – EP)

Florida, USA’s progressive metal powerhouse The Mourning has just released their captivating new music video for “The Mountain” a visually stunning exploration of tranquility, spiritual connection, and personal transformation from their latest album “Hush” released earlier this year. The band comments on the conception of the track:

“The single was written while overlooking the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina, capturing the serene experience of escaping the city’s hustle and bustle. This song reflects how such tranquility can bring a closer connection to one’s inner divine.”

The track starts with a soft, beautiful melody that mirrors the peacefulness of the mountains, gradually evolving into a powerful prog metal anthem. This transition symbolizes the awakening of deeper spiritual consciousness. As the song progresses, intricate instrumental layers and complex rhythms emerge. The soaring vocals deliver emotional intensity, with lyrics infused with themes of nature and spirituality. The climax features catchy cadences and commanding guitar riffs, blending technical prowess with melodic sensibility.

The video was filmed against the awe-inspiring backdrop of the Appalachian Mountains in Blue Ridge, Georgia, and it is a cinematic journey that mirrors the song’s profound musical and lyrical landscape. “The Mountain” is recommended for those who enjoy the grandeur of nature and progressive music, especially bands like Porcupine Tree, Polyphia, and Haken.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 12, 2024

Streaming Now! Manuel Barbará Releases Blade Runner Themed Metal EP “Whisper in a Storm”

New EP “Whisper in a Storm” Out Sept 13th, 2024

Metal guitarist and composer Manuel Barbará is proud to announce the release of his new EP “Whisper in a Storm”. The EP combines the aggression and technical mastery of heavy metal with the formal and harmonic concepts learned from the great composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. Barbará shares what listeners can expect:

“‘Whisper in a Storm’ had a very “cyberspace and neon” sort of feel to it, which helped steer our decision to make it about Blade Runner. It’s mainly djent and prog, but I’m finding small touches of death metal creeping into my ideas the longer I play in Necro. It features four very distinct songs, each featuring one of my favorite musicians, that all live in the same sonic world. I hope the listeners like it as much as I do.”

The EP boasts an impressive lineup of guest musicians, including violinist Jody Miller, guitarist Jake Howsam Lowe of Plini and The Helix Nebula, Michael Nystrom Bala of Necronomicon Ex Mortis, vocalist Thalia Tymowski of Among the Stars, and guitarist Millisa Henderson. These collaborations add depth and variety to Barbará‘s already rich sonic palette.

Barbará’s compositions aim to unify the spheres of metal and classical music, creating carefully constructed pieces full of ambiance and color. This EP is designed to be a strange, adventurous, expertly crafted punch to the face with just enough spacey ambiance to make it punch even harder and just enough big synths to make it feel like you might be stabbed with a katana under a neon sign. It is recommended for fans of Periphery, Meshuggah, and Keith Merrow.

Listen to the full stream premiere of “Whisper in a Storm” via TheProgSpace HERE.

Due out September 13, 2024, “Whisper in a Storm” is available for digital pre-save at https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/manuelbarbar/whisper-in-a-storm

“Berklee trained and steeped in metal music, composing, and shredding, the EP (Whisper in a Storm) is going to unite die-hard metal fans and guitar geeks alike.” – Ghost Cult Magazine

“With its rhythmic elements and heavy riffs, Manuel Barbará’s debut album is in the purity of modern instrumental progressive metal. But his influences from classical composers add an interesting extra touch.”- Music Waves (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“a spectacular showcase of the progressive qualities of Manuel Barbará.” – Games, Brains and A Headbanging Life (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“This is an astounding first record. Especially for a single composer. If you are a fan of atmospheric instrumental metal, give it a shot. I give the album a solid 8/10. Manuel is already looking forward to the future with new compositions which are even more refined and elaborate. I’m looking forward to it with great anticipation.” – Belgian Metal Shredder (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“I really enjoyed my time with this album. I’m a big fan of djenty riffs, dissonant tones and atmosphere which this album provided aplenty. The record shows that Manuel is a master craftsman in composition. The album clocks in at about 35 minutes. In this case that’s a plus. It doesn’t overstay its welcome and makes the tracks stand out more. The album is instrumental, which could be a turnoff for some people. But to me it benefits from it. It’s more of a listening album than an all-out headbang/rocking out record.” – Belgian Metal Shredder (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“without a doubt that we have a talented musician and composer in front of us. The approach is in large parts of the material progressive metal with the corresponding hardness and complexity… You can’t deny the band’s instrumental quality…” – Metal-Heads.de (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“Manuel Barbará shines bright on Moonrise… this is a fascinating listen and it is easy to appreciate Manuel’s complex musical narrative… this deserves a listen as it does embody the prog metal ideal and as such, it’s a damn good album: think Tesseract or Periphery.” – RAMzine (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“Barbará has rejuvenated the instrumental metal genre, boldly handling what is often perceived as a deficit of vocals and composing with refinement and a brilliantly malicious sense of melody and groove.” – Jace Media (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“It’s unbelievable that Moonrise is the debut of a musical high-flyer. Manuel Barbará releases an unbelievably mature masterpiece, which not only pays homage to its role models Dream Theater, Keith Merrow, or Periphery, but also presents crisp, progressive Djent Metal at eye level, which despite its perfection and precision still offers room for improvement. My recommendation with 8.5 / 10” – Soundmagnet (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

“Inviting the listener in with some mystical soundscapes, the tempo and mood change immediately when the trio start firing on all cylinders with a dent-driven, pushing rhythmic sound alongside Manuel’s epic and virtuosic guitar work. The overall sound is dark and mighty, but every now and then gets brightened by some gleaming tones. The use of electronic sounds add a modern vibe as well and he skillfully alternates between full-power, highly technical, and calmer, atmospheric parts, before taking us to the gigantic ending riff.” – Tuonela Magazine (2021 – Moonrise – LP)

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 4, 2023

Streaming Now! Montreal’s VVON DOGMA I (ex-Unexpect – 9 String Bassist) Abrasive New Album “The Kvlt of Glitch”

New Album “The Kvlt of Glitch” Out May 5th

Fans of Radiohead, Meshuggah, and Deftones are sure to appreciate VVON DOGMA I‘s unique, bass-centric, progressive metal sound. The band takes inspiration from these bands, but puts their own spin on it, creating something that is entirely their own. With “The Kvlt of Glitch”, being released on May 5th, VVON DOGMA I is set to solidify its place as one of the most exciting and innovative bands in the experimental rock genre. To further hype this release, they are sharing an advance full stream of the album via its premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

Band founder and bassist Frederick Filiatrault (ChaotH) adds:

“Musically I come from a world where you have to dare to do something different so… hopefully this album takes the listener a bit out of their comfort zone. If it can reach and touch just one person I’ll be happy. Again coming from a band (Unexpect) that reached tens of thousands of people worldwide, it’s quite humbling to start it all over on my own so I’ll just be happy to put it out there really.”

Vvon Dogma I came to be mostly out of 9-string bassist Chaoth’s desire to experiment with different lower tunings and different sounds. He was already starting to think of a side project but when his previous band Unexpect disbanded he slowly but surely started creating another entity to keep experimenting and crafting. The album “The Kvlt of Glitch” was produced by Chaoth along with Blaise Borboën-Léonard, Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy), and Dave Evangelista and was mixed and mastered by Max Lacroix at House of Gain Studio.

Synthetic feeling and melancholic, the album is chaotic, well thought out, and something different that will intrigue progressive metal fans. It is highly recommended for fans of Igorrr, Deftones, and Sleep Token.

“The Kvlt of Glitch” is due out May 5, 2023.

“The invigorating glitched out bliss they have on display here is as dense as it is rewarding, with nothing falling out of place, yet with everything shifting all the time. If “The Void” is any indication of what’s to come, I seriously cannot wait to hear the rest of The Kvlt of Glitch, when it lands on May 5th independently.” – Everything Is Noise

“Vvon Dogma are back with a new video for their new record, The Kvlt of Glitch, in the form of the track “One Eye.” It features some seriously insane nine-string bass playing… Chaoth, their nine-string bassist, is a big driver behind their experimental sound and their popularity.” – Metal Sucks

With four full-length releases behind them, Canada’s Milanku presents “À l’aube”, a five-track burn that breathes new life into a caste of disenfranchised people, imbued with a disarming lucidity, and gives itself a framework and a voice to pull its head out of the swamp. This melancholic release is full-bodied, and intense, heavily influenced by the emotions of despair and loneliness brought on by the pandemic.

Bassist/vocalist Guillaume Chamberland comments:

“After a long hiatus, we are excited to perform this new album live. We have maintained our core sound but we have grown immensely musically, I mean we had lots of time on our hands…and this album basically represents an offering to our fans who have been waiting for new music from us. They can expect heavy post-rock with more maturity and finesse.”

Most of the skeleton of the album was built before the pandemic. After a few months of downtime, Milanku refined and modified the songs and recorded the songs in two studio sessions. The pandemic had an impact on the sound of all the songs on the album, without it, the result of the album would not be the same at all.

Compared to their previous releases, it is a return to the sound they had on the “Pris À La Gorge” album but with more maturity and a certain musical evolution of the group. The last track features Erika Angell from Thus Owls comes to embellish the album. Sad and slow, with clear influences from genres such as post-metal, hardcore, and crust, Milanku is recommended for fans of Neurosis, Envy, and Cult of Luna.

“À l’aube” is now streaming via its premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

The album “À l’aube” is due out March 31st, 2023 via FOLIVORA (Canada), D7i (Canada/USA), and Moment of Collapse (EU).

About: If Milanku draws its origins from the work of Milan Kundera, the soundtrack is definitely more on the side of the thundering density of the being than of its “unbearable lightness”, galvanized by the Czech author.

From the start, Milanku hammers out its brutal character, infused with melancholy, even dystopia, and standing straight upright on the wire: defiant, shouting, and inspired.

Mesmerized by the warrior’s rage, flayed by its own doldrums, the quartet relies on pared-down arrangements and an oft-staged vocal presence, harmonizing like an instrument, and howling at the big time, but plastered with a disquieting sense of dilettante.

At the heart of the enterprise, tearing off the peels of flapping skins, we explore the state of affairs of the contemporary genre, tragic, desolate, where any notion of common sense seems diffuse in the amalgam of trompe-l’oeil. The texts are meditative, inquisitive and the observations that emanate from them, weep and persist in trying to make sense of it, through its ever-growing losses of illusion.

With four full-length releases behind them, both in Canada (D7I Records, Désordre Ordonné, L’oeil du Tigre), and abroad (Tokyo Jupiter Records (Japan), Moments of Collapse (Germany), Replenish Records (USA), GS production records (Russia), We are Grain of Sand (Russia) Alerta-Antifascista, Milanku presents today À l’aube (Folivora, 2023), a five-track burn that breathes new life into a caste of disenfranchised people, imbued with a disarming lucidity, and gives itself a framework and a voice to pull its head out of the swamp.

International recognition

The band has been affiliated with several; indie labels and distributors over the years, namely: in Canada (D7I Records, Désordre Ordonné, L’oeil du Tigre), Jupiter Records (Japan), Moments of Collapse (Germany), Replenish Records (USA), GS production records (Russia), We are Grain of Sand (Russia) as well as Alerta-Antifascista (Germany).

In 2016, the band will continue to tour Europe, visiting the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Austria.

The band’s albums have been consistently recognized at the GAMIQ since 2013 in addition to jumping on a plethora of specialized year-end lists around the globe.

“Milanku’s À l’aube doesn’t just rage against the gloom; it observes it, experiences it deeply, and reaches tirelessly towards hope. The sound absolutely envelops you in ecstatic glory by album’s end.” – Doomed & Stoned

“The slowness of the post-hardcore of Milanku or the erasure of the world.” – Weirdsound.net

New Album “Mythos” Out Now!

Canada’s Hunting Giants are offering up their next video “King of Ashes” in support of their latest album “Mythos” released this past September. The album’s closer is an epic industrial ballad that is reminiscent of both Nine-Inch-Nails and King Crimson. The vocals ponder on the futility of victory at all costs as the percussion and instruments chase each other in polyrhythmic complementation. A constant yet subtle feedback loop heightens the vocals until they crescendo in a final lament, “Oh, to be the King of Ashes.” In finality, the album comes to a close and fades out with the ringing of a gong.

Watch and listen to “King of Ashes” via its premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

“Mythos” is the crowning achievement of Hunting Giants‘ many years of musical work, writing and recording while gigging and enduring quarantine as a band during the Covid pandemic. The members of Hunting Giants all came from, and are inspired by, progressive rock and metal bands where songs would often pass the ten-minute mark. However, they desired to keep their own music concise and to the point, intentionally lacking much of the excess material that so often padded run-times of songs in the progressive rock-metal genre. Simple and clean lines are given priority over complicated abstractions that only challenge the player in an athletic way, provided that it serves the music.

Hunting Giants is confident that new listeners, as well as those familiar with them through their previous release “Skyward Eyes”, will find an accomplished intensity and listenability in “Mythos”, which represents their musical growth and evolution. Each of the thirteen songs was specially picked for the album to contribute to the overarching story in a theatrical and energetic manner. With riffs that will inspire and lyrics that will mystify.

“This album is musically very diverse as it ranges from intense white-knuckled metal tracks, down to gentle instrumental tracks peppered with melodic piano and haunting cello, all the way to epic ballads tastefully complimented by choirs, strings, and bells. Mythos lyrically explores archetypes, both heroic and villainous, that affect the world around us, as well as the inevitable fates which arise when these values are heinously held and expressed.” adds the band.

Hunting Giants is recommended for those who enjoy a 90s vibe and progressive elements, especially fans of Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Tool, and Audioslave.

“Mythos” is available on CD and digital at the following links:

About:
Hunting Giants is a four-piece heavy rock band from Vancouver, BC, Canada.

This unique group of musicians offers a spectacular visuals-driven live performance that exceeds both the precise ferocity of their recordings and the highest expectations of an energized audience looking for something recognizably different. Their music is both refreshing and familiar, serving well as the musical backdrop for one’s ongoing discovery of meaning in life and self.

Hunting Giants was started in 2017 with Bradley Trivett assembling the first musical themes and combining the percussive expertise of Daniel Beavington with the explosive rhythmic prowess of Corey J. Wharton into the foundation of a team set to discover and dominate the most enormous sounds and daunting massive ideas they could find. Led by the visionary passion and styling of frontman Stephen Atkey, Hunting Giants is poised to deliver an incredible auditory and visual experience.

“Hunting Giants stake their claim as a powerful new force in the Pacific Northwest metal scene…this band is absolutely one you’ll want to keep an eye on.” – Wail Magazine

“A glorious adventure is about to begin, starting right here today! Heavy metallers Hunting Giants are debuting their brand new music video for “Rituals,” the first single from their upcoming album Mythos. The song indicates the zeal and the ambition that the band is bringing towards this new record, due for release on September 30th. The “Rituals” video matches the flat-out intensity of the song, one that discusses necromancy and the harshness of hatred and shame.” – V13

“It’s not often that a band is described as ‘a blend of modern hard rock, progressive rock/metal and grunge influences,’ but that is indeed a fitting description of Vancouver’s Hunting Giants” – Bravewords

“Let me say this first, HUNTING GIANTS from Vancouver are REALLY freaking good. These guys are relatively new but they are tighter and more accomplished man many veteran bands.” – Rock You Show

“This is an album (Mythos) that you’ll want to wander through thanks to their technical proficiency and the production value.” – Metal Roos

“a solid listen, and a fairly unique combination of a few different styles. It’s mostly heavy enough for Metal fans, and mostly melodic enough for fans like myself who appreciate a good hook.” – Metal Temple

Montreal, QC – October 11, 2022

Montreal’s CYDEMIND “Breach” The Walls of Normality To Present Next Violin Prog Metal Single

Sophomore Album “The Descent” Out Nov 4th

L-R – Camille Delage (piano and keyboards), Kevin Paquet (guitars), Olivier Allard (Violin), Nico Damoulianos (Bass), Alexandre Dagenais (Drummer)

Montreal instrumental progressive metal band CYDEMIND is offering up its next single from their forthcoming album “The Descent” due out November 4th, 2022 to follow their 2017 debut album “Erosion”.

“We’re thrilled to introduce Breach, our brand new single!” exclaims Camille Delage, keyboardist. “It’s a high-energy song that we believe is going to be appreciated by many fans!”

This single comes just a month after CYDEMIND unveiled “Hoax“.

“While Hoax may have surprised prog fans, Breach is more in line with the classic sounds of prog metal (if there can ever be anything classic about prog!),” explains guitarist Kevin Paquet. “It’s got hard riffs, a captivating chorus, and unleashed solos.”

The song musters a lot of these classic prog elements reminiscent of Dream Theater and Symphony X. “Of course when you make prog music, it’s hard not to take inspiration from these bands,” admits violinist Olivier Allard. “They have molded the genre into what it is now. But I believe that the contribution of both the violin and the grand piano gives Breach a distinctive, organic, Cydemindesque sound, dare we say!”

The accompanying music video shows the band in their own jam space situated near Montreal. “We opted for something more straightforward in order to put the focus on the song and the playing,” explains Alexandre Dagenais, drummer. “Our video editor, Joël Lalancette, did an outstanding job of matching the pace of the video with the song’s tempo and atmosphere. “Violin metal shredders, Cydemind, has just released a beautiful new video for their “Winter” single, using the gorgeous backdrop of Quebec, Canada. The neo-classical prog track showcases the amazing abilities of this young band on the rise, with captivating hooks that’ll leave you awestruck and hitting up their Bandcamp page for more!” – Metal Injection

“The instrumental band puts the violin front and center, which is strange (if not unheard of) in and of itself. They’ve also released a sweet cover of Vivaldi’s “L’inverno” (“Winter”), from The Four Seasons, which is definitely the first time in the 12+ years of MetalSucks that we’ve had to type that sentence… and they’ve done so when we’re just about a week away from the first day of spring, which was a ballsy decision. And on top of all of that, they made a really, really beautiful video for the track out on the frozen tundras of Québec. Do they have tundras in Québec? Whatever. The video looks really cool. Also, cold. I got mild frostbite just watching it.” – Metal Sucks

“presented what will easily be among the top prog metal albums of the year…” – Metal Underground

“An epic album in every sense of the word” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Cydemind have shown me two things on this debut album: they’re damn good musicians, and they have the ability to write compelling music that sticks with you. ” – Angry Metal Guy
