“Divinity are an insanely talented band who’ve just released an amazing album that just isn’t getting the attention it deserves. I was listening to the full album yesterday on my iPod… and “fucking wow” is still about all I can come up with. It’s it’s complex, it’s progressive, it’s deep, it’s brutal, it’s shreddy, it’s hooky, it’s artsy… it’s everything you (I) want a metal record to be. Every musician in the band is top-notch, including vocalist Sean Jenkins with whom I’m especially impressed (this from a guy who ordinarily doesn’t focus on vocals).” – Metalsucks.net

“Canada’s metal wizards Divinity have just released a vibrant, explosive video for “Lay In The Bed You’ve Made,” from the band’s Candlelight Records debut The Singularity.” – Guitar World

“DIVINITY: F*CKING WOW…Divinity definitely make my balls quiver.” – Metalsucks.net

“Technical death metal fans will find Divinity to be a hybrid of several genres that all have a hand in formulating the band’s sonic reverence. From soft piano to sky-raising clean vocals, every attempt is made to show that monotony and predictability is not in Divinity’s DNA.” – Metal Underground

“Divinity is easily among Canada’s elite bands (along with Into Eternity for example) that have that the new ‘Western Canadian’ sound that morphs Death, Thrash, Prog and crazy chops into one sweet package.” – Metal-Rules

Bonnyville, AB melodic metal band SILENT LINE have posted a metal cover version of One Direction’s hit single ‘Drag Me Down’ because sometimes metalheads need to demonstrate their guilty pleasure for pop music.

“We were just looking to make a funny cover that isn’t serious by any stretch of the imagination. We thought it would be hilarious to try and turn such a straightforward boy band song into our style of melodic metal. Some people in the band – not naming any names – are on the fence about releasing it, but I think it will get some laughs and hopefully a few new fans! Don’t take it too seriously, and if you want to see what our original material sounds like check out our SoundCloud page or come see us live on March 11th for the Wacken Metal Battles in Edmonton at The Mercury Room!” comments guitarist Mike Burton.

About ‘Shattered Shores’:

Producing heavy and melodic music with an orchestral flair rooted in death metal, Bonnyville, AB SILENT LINE‘s ‘Shattered Shores’ first concept album is now available to follow up their 2012 LP ‘Born of Dying Star’. The title track is split into two parts, and throughout the album several thematic riffs and lyrics are repeated, creating a motif for listeners. The title references being stranded and trapped forever as the shores become more eroded and the reality of isolation sets in. The lyrics revolve around the themes of overcoming hardships, anxiety, and “weathering the storm” in order to persevere. A single person is referred to throughout the album and everything is told from their point of view as they wander, stuck on the island — unsure of how they got there, and unsure if they will ever leave.

Track Listing: Silent Line – Shattered Shores
1. Frost of The Night (5:46)
2. Erosion (3:52)
3. Black And White (3:21)

DIVINITY, based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, started in 1997 and began playing live shows in 1999. In 2001, the band released its first EP album called “Intensify”, which received a lot of local (Canadian) praise. A music video was released for the song “World of Pain” in 2003.

Fast forward to 2007, DIVINITY independently releases their first full-length album called “Allegory” and is picked up by Nuclear Blast Records just 3 months after the independent release. Obviously, this was a major turning point for the band!

In 2008, DIVINITY took on it’s first major tour by joining the Summer Slaughter Canada tour. This gave them the opportunity to connect to high-caliber booking agents and other acts such as Dying Fetus, Whitechapel, and Necrophagist.

Then in 2010, DIVINITY spent its time creating their 2nd full-length album called “The Singularity”,which was released under Candlelight Records with a very positive response from numerous reviewers and listeners. Since the release of The Singularity, DIVINITY has toured Canada numerous times over and has received countless support and praise from around the world.

Currently, The band looks forward to finishing the release of The Immortalist Trilogy and doing follow up touring to support it later this year!

Shattered Shores – Teaser Video – Watch here.

Bonnyville, AB death-infused melodic metallers SILENT LINE has teamed up with Idobi Howl for the exclusive stream of their upcoming concept album‘Shattered Shores’ due out October 23rd to follow up their 2012 LP ‘Born of Dying Star’.

The band explains the album:

“Shattered Shores” is a concept album – our first attempt at one – that depicts a tortured island stuck in time being slowly worn away by an endless ocean. Themes of frost, snow, fire, night, and stars are used to illustrate feelings of hopelessness, fear, and loss. A single person is referred to throughout the album and everything is told from their point of view as they wander, stuck on the island unsure of how they got there, and unsure if they will ever leave. Lots of references to snow and frost are used as we live in Canada, and there is a lonely but beautiful character to the long winter we experience. Another recurring theme is the storm, which brings change and renewal; it is – for lack of a better term – the symbol of hope and of a brighter future.

Overall, Shattered Shores has a melancholic feel to it. It is definitely darker than our other albums, but we feel that it is much more mature and identifiable with an audience. It’s not meant to be depressing, but it deals with real issues and lots of the time those are not pretty. While it is a darker album, the message is not. Overcoming internal issues and feelings is the prime focus, and to describe how important that is, it is necessary to spend time describing the more pessimistic side of things and what makes it so crippling. The songs are more involving and deeper in meaning and structure than our last release, and we took a step back technically on purpose. Individually, the instruments are not as “crazy” as before, but we had a vision for the songs this time, we could see the end product and knew that to get there we didn’t have to play the most technically demanding things as fast as we could. The songs, while more simple, have far more feeling and emotion than before and we are very proud of what we have produced. We hope that everyone listening to the album can find something they enjoy, something they identify with, and something that makes them want to continue listening.”

Producing heavy and melodic music with an orchestral flair rooted in death metal‘Shattered Shores’ is the band’s first concept album.

SILENT LINE is composed of Mike Burton leading the charge on guitar and vocals, Randy Bergh writing pummeling guitar riffs, Andy Sidloski crafting driving bass lines, and Adam Kallstrom thundering on drums. The line up charges audiences with their energy and fills the entire room with its symphonic melodies. heir dedication to their craft is strengthened by their loyal fans, who have supported their development over the years with their two previous albums  ‘Born of A Dying Star’ (2012) and ‘One Body Blade’ (2010).

OUT NOW! Canadian Metallers ODIUM Unleash New Album ‘Terraform’

L-R – Joe Mullen – Drums | Bo Louther – Guitar | Andrew Fullerton – Vocals | Marc Dobson – Guitar | Jake Fortney – Bass/Vocals (Photo Credit – SUPERMANIAK)

ODIUM has been operating out of Hanover, Ontario producing dark, yet melodic metal layered with fast-paced gruff bellows, resonating vocals, and pounding instrumentals for nearly a decade. After releasing an EP and two full-length records, the band is now back with their third album ‘Terraform’ available as of October 23, 2015, which is now streaming and can be purchased on digital and CD at the following links on bandcamp here, iTunes and Kill The 8 Merch here.
To listen to the album stream for Terraform, please visit https://odium1.bandcamp.com/album/terraform
ODIUM‘s goal is to write heavy and melodic music, while constantly developing their style from album to album. The instrumentals lend their tone and energy to invite more versatility in the vocals in each song. Their passion for performing live and incredible stage energy has allowed them to open for Alexisonfire, The Agonist, Beneath the Massacre, Divinity, Moneen, and Fuck the Facts.
The lyrics invite listeners to take a journey through despair, while the bass and drums drive the rhythm, the guitars straddle the line between pure aggression and melodic riffs. For ODIUM there has always been a pattern of evolution over the past few years that allows them to continuously create multi-genre influenced music. The band is comprised of Joe Mullen, Jake Fortney, Andrew Fullerton, Bo Louther, Marc Dobson, who have come from various bands such as Archaea/Willfall.
The bands name is defined as ‘disgraceful hate’ however after the past 10 years they have come to see the band name relating directly to perseverance. ODIUM has a foundation of trust which creates a bond likened to that of a brotherhood. The dedication and teamwork within the band is based on respect, and because the internal bond is so strong they are able to create a meaningful connection with fans.

Music Video – Underneath The Deep – Watch here.

With a band name intentionally written with enclosed brackets to signify the trappings of modern life for all of us and how people, despite their best attempts to break out of the mold are still affixed to a simple controlled existence and futility.  Montreal five piece [EVERTRAPPED] are delivering relentless brutal melodic death metal in their third studio album ‘Under The Deep’ available now as ofOctober 16th via Hellstorm Recordz to follow 2012’s ‘Anomaly’ and 2010’s debut ‘Tales From The Supermax’.

Vocalist James Brookes comments on the album:

“‘Under The Deep is an exploration of the deepest reaches of human madness. Not clinical madness, but simply the darkest regions of the soul and the blackest part of the human heart from a mind found to be socially functional, but is really way too far gone. And thus it seeks to explore what is underneath the deepest depth, hence no matter how deep you descend there’s always another layer that can be torn away.”

Album Length: 53:3

Track by track explained by Evertrapped.

Tracks:

  1. […] intro
  1. Arise From The Ashes: A depiction of someone who has actually reached the bottom, so their rise from there so to speak. Like the king of their own universe broken by all clawing it’s back but fueled by an ever consuming hatred.
  1. Underneath The Deep: A personal look at how a person can only be fucked up by someone else for too long until they break. But this takes you to a point where you now can’t come back.
  1. Palace Of Injustice: A stab at anyone blinded by the indoctrination of any institution and their ultimate demise that likely follows due to their ignorance towards it. However, it does aim more at the disgust of the institutions themselves and not so much the ignorance of the people.
  1. Hypnotized By Hatred: Another personal reflection, but in this case more a person who has been made to believe that all they do is wrong. So it brings up the sense where if you tell someone enough times that they are shit, then eventually they will just believe it. And in this case someone who becomes a very dark god loathing individual because it takes them to a point where they think it’s hysterical.
  1. Blood Of The Fallen: This is set in a horror like context although it not some zombie tribute. It simply laughs at how we place so much importance on the memory of the dead yet never bat an eye at the reality of human suffering which we ourselves cause.
  1. Lethal District: Somewhat of a post apocalyptic view of the surviving factions of humanity that instill themselves as the powers that be, and thus cast out the unclean, unworthy, and so forth. And therefore it sheds light on the madness and revolt of the unwanted.
  1. Burning Through Vengeance: This is a straight up rebel song. A certain arrogant fuck you to a society that rejects you, but you still know that you know better than them. So instead you’ll bide your time and watch them hilariously screw themselves over.
  1. Reaper: As the title suggests, an end of the line type song. In a certain way captures the essence of[EVERTRAPPED] in terms of the inescapable event that is death.
  1. Embrace The End: This also goes more or less as the title suggests. This is another song for the apocalypse but more at the actual hour of the end itself. A look at almost coming to terms with the fact that it was likely the fault of humanity and embracing the acceptance of such evil.

About:

Members of [EVERTRAPPED] bring together their collective experience from the Montreal metal scene to create their heavy brand of death metal. The guitarists Frederick Dupuis (ex-Daggerfalls) and Vincent Benoit hammer out raw guitar while drummer Eric Lemire (ex-Apocalypsys, ex-Ice Castle) pummels the drums. Their versatile frontman James Brookes (ex-Ammonia, ex-One Final Moment, Continuum) easily alternates between strong clear vocals and low bellowing screams giving listeners the illusion of more than one vocalist. John Yates (ex-AraPacis) weaves together each song with his driving bass lines to keep the punishing tracks energy at an all time high.

Lyrics are intentionally slightly abstract to lure fans to draw their own conclusions despite a perceived understanding of the tracks. Themes for the music revolve around personal turmoil and even stringing together the image of a future where the world is on the brink of an apocalypse.

The band’s influences range from Death Metal to Melodic Death primarily, along with some classic thrash and speed metal, which explains their technicality and diversity sonically. Live, the band is a whirlwind of aggression and sonically abrasive, yet sporadically melodic vocally and instrumentally.

“those looking for melodic death metal on the heavier end of the spectrum need apply here. The second that you hear the opening chords of “Arise from the Ashes,” you’ll know exactly what [Evertrapped] is going for… a testament to some solid writing chops, particularly in the very traveled waters that the band is catering to. Those looking to sample a few tracks should check out the melodic leanings of “Lethal District” or ominous riffs of “Reaper.” – Dead Rhetoric

“After getting your socks blown off by the opener you only get a couple of seconds of rest before ‘Underneath the deep’ unleashes its fury at full force.” – Dutch Metal Maniac

“Listening to this one it feels like Lamb of God meets At The Gates or perhaps what I mean is this is what LoG would sound like as a melo-deth band. The musicianship is on par with any that you consider the best…Vocalist James Brookes has amazing pipes bouncing from cleans to death metal growls to slightly black metal screeches (not high pitched or I’d be OUT!)…Do yourself a favor and put this on your “To Buy” list, trust me you want this one!” – They Demons Be Scribblin
“[Evertrapped] excels at their craft with “Under the Deep” offering a full-fledged assault on the senses that is absolutelystone-cold BRUTAL! And between you and me friends such aggression and overt hostility is a welcome sight sound when all you want to do is check out of this crazy world for awhile and decompress!” – Heavy Metal Time Machine

“Tasty riffs and ditto drumming make this a great album to listen to…has everything what a good contemporary metal album should have and Evertrapped can look to the future with their heads held high and this album ‘Under The Deep’ will probably do well.” – Lords of Metal
“De suite on se rend compte d’une chose, c’est que leur musique cartonne.” – Metal France
“There really is A LOT of ‘talent’ within [EVERTRAPPED] “both” musically & behind the scenes appearing on ‘Under The Deep’!” – Metal Inifinity

“These guys are real pros and it shows!” – The Blood Shed

“Evertrapped, and as they lay their claim as one of the front runners of melodic death metal in all of the land” – Bucketlist Music Reviews

“Raise your horns to Evertrapped!” – Metal Reviews

“Something Epic!” – Musik Universe

“Once again, hypnotic…” – Ondes Chocs

“Judging by the sample we got, this next album will sound like a ton of bricks!” – Quebec Metal

“Standouts like the album’s opening title track pit detuned, jud-judding six-strings and double-kick drum rhythms with singer Thomas Emmans’s varied vocal styles, which run from Maynard James Keenan-styled creep-crooning to esophagus-annihilating screams.” – Exclaim!

“Loud and fast but also melodic and complex,  fan of acts like Killswitch Engage and Lamb of God will not be disappointed.” – London Metro News

“Odium are very good at what they do, namely melodic Death Metal. This Canadian quintet have a lot going for them…competent and execute the form very well… There are some nice orchestrated atmospheric moments such as at the beginning of ‘Insomina’” – Metal-Rules.com

“Odium posses very distinctive and strong melodic leanings, catchy riffing and undeniable prowess on the performing front – especially with the clean/growl vocal trade-off and the tight rhythm section….cuts like the thrashy “Viral By Nature”, “Within the Distraction” and the title track, perfectly blend with the more expansive sound of “No Way Out” and the melancholic quasi-ballad “The Descent” among others to deliver a decently solid piece of modern Metal. ” – PureGrainAudio.com

“The thing with a band like Odium is that they know how to walk that line between full on heavy, thrashed out metal and melody. It’s definitely their style, but they only seem to turn it on where it’s necessary, and that speaks to a much wider audience.” – Juliette Jagger – AlanCross.ca
