AS OCEANS DIVIDE’s New Single “World Collapse” Is A Powerful Surge of Chaos, Melody, and Emotional Weight

Debut EP in Memory of Bassist Dale Burrows

L-R – Matt McGuire – Drums, Thomas Ireland – Guitar, Tom Emmans – Vocals, Eric Camilleri – Guitar

Ontario metalcore force As Oceans Divide continue their ascent with the announcement of their next single, “World Collapse”. The track marks the third release from the band’s upcoming self‑titled EP, following the momentum of previous singles “White Noise” and “Into The Dying Light.”

The lyric video for “World Collapse” expands the EP’s overarching themes of tension, internal conflict, and emotional weight, concepts visually represented in the EP’s striking artwork: a chained sea serpent wrapped around an anchor, thrashing against a violent ocean backdrop. The imagery mirrors the band’s sonic identity: a constant push and pull between aggression and melody, chaos and control, heaviness and atmosphere.

“World Collapse” delves deeper into the EP’s emotional core. While “Into The Dying Light” explored acceptance, resistance, and the confrontation of one’s breaking point, “World Collapse” widens the lens, capturing the feeling of everything falling apart at once, both internally and externally.

Musically, the track blends the band’s signature elements of technical, hard‑hitting riffs, dynamic melodic passages, atmospheric tension, and a powerful vocal performance from Tom Emmans that shifts seamlessly between aggression and clarity. The result is a song that feels massive, immersive, and emotionally charged, an embodiment of the EP’s core contrasts.

As Oceans Divide’s debut EP is built around contrast. Every track balances intensity with reflection, heaviness with melody, and chaos with structure. Lyrically, the EP dives into themes of internal struggle, loss, resilience, and the weight of what lies beneath the surface. The band describes the EP as “a journey rather than a collection of parts,” with each song crafted to pull listeners in, hit hard, and leave space for emotional connection.

Forged from years of friendship and a shared legacy in Canadian metal, As Oceans Divide brings together members with roots in Bloodshoteye, Aquila, Odium, Battlesoul, and more. Their sound blends early‑2000s metalcore influence with modern precision, harmonized guitars, mid‑tempo anthems, technical aggression, and emotionally driven vocals. The lineup includes Tom Emmans (Vocals), Eric Camilleri (Guitar/Songwriting), Thomas Ireland (Guitar/Production), and Matt McGuire(Drums).

The band also honours the memory of bassist Dale Burrows, whose passing in March 2026 left a profound impact on their music and their brotherhood.

Recommended for fans of Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, All That Remains, Unearth, and God Forbid.

About:

ODIUM’s goal is to write heavy and melodic music, while constantly developing their style from album to album. The instrumentals lend their tone and energy to invite more versatility in the vocals in each song. Their passion for performing live and incredible stage energy has allowed them to open for Alexisonfire, The Agonist, Beneath the Massacre, Divinity, Moneen, and Fuck the Facts.

The lyrics invite listeners to take a journey through despair, while the bass and drums drive the rhythm, the guitars straddle the line between pure aggression and melodic riffs. For ODIUM there has always been a pattern of evolution over the past few years that allows them to continuously create multi-genre influenced music. The band is comprised of Joe Mullen, Jake Fortney, Andrew Fullerton, Bo Louther, Marc Dobson, who have come from various bands such as Archaea/Willfall.

The bands name is defined as ‘disgraceful hate’ however after the past 10 years they have come to see the band name relating directly to perseverance. ODIUM has a foundation of trust which creates a bond likened to that of a brotherhood. The dedication and teamwork within the band is based on respect, and because the internal bond is so strong they are able to create a meaningful connection with fans.

“Standouts like the album’s opening title track pit detuned, jud-judding six-strings and double-kick drum rhythms with singer Thomas Emmans’s varied vocal styles, which run from Maynard James Keenan-styled creep-crooning to esophagus-annihilating screams.” – Exclaim!

“Loud and fast but also melodic and complex,  fan of acts like Killswitch Engage and Lamb of God will not be disappointed.” – London Metro News

“Odium are very good at what they do, namely melodic Death Metal. This Canadian quintet have a lot going for them…competent and execute the form very well… There are some nice orchestrated atmospheric moments such as at the beginning of ‘Insomina’” – Metal-Rules.com

“Odium posses very distinctive and strong melodic leanings, catchy riffing and undeniable prowess on the performing front – especially with the clean/growl vocal trade-off and the tight rhythm section….cuts like the thrashy “Viral By Nature”, “Within the Distraction” and the title track, perfectly blend with the more expansive sound of “No Way Out” and the melancholic quasi-ballad “The Descent” among others to deliver a decently solid piece of modern Metal. ” – PureGrainAudio.com

“The thing with a band like Odium is that they know how to walk that line between full on heavy, thrashed out metal and melody. It’s definitely their style, but they only seem to turn it on where it’s necessary, and that speaks to a much wider audience.” – Juliette Jagger – AlanCross.ca

With three releases contributed to the metal world, 2012′s ‘Burning Bridges To Nowhere’, 2009′s debut album ‘At The Bottom’ produced by Greg Dawson (The End, Moneen, Choke) and 2006′s debut ‘Glass Barricade’, Canadian band Odium has established itself as a serious contender on the metal stage, delivering melodic, dark yet beautiful music and landing gigs with bands such as Fuck The Facts, Cryptopsy, Alexisonfire, The Agonist, Threat Signal, Baptized In Blood, Beneath The Massacre, Divinity and Arise and Ruin.

Following a short break from the industry to make some much needed changes, Odium is back with a new lineup and a sound that’s heavier and more defined than ever as they unleash their new single ‘Failure II’ on PureGrainAudio.com at the following link.

“The break has definitely had a positive influence on us as a band,” says guitarist  and original founding member Bo Louther. “It has allowed us to step back and really just make music purely because we love it. Also, with a new vocalist comes a whole new dynamic [and] we’re open to experimenting a bit more.”

With a new full-length album in the works, Odium is gearing up to unleash material that’s set to be more aggressive than ever, but will still keep the band’s signature sound.
