Latvian classic rockers QUICKSTRIKE will be releasing their debut album “None of a Kind” via Rockshots Records this coming February 2022. The full-length, clocking at over 40 minutes will feature 10 songs along with a bonus track exclusively on CD.

A no-nonsense experience of raw guitars, sweet tones, genuine vocals, and sweet emotions, each Quickstrike song is an event of its own and it’s all real to reel. Offering an all-around chamber of good ol’ classic rock n’ roll, the band delivers an authentic “what-you-get-on-the-record-is-what-you-get-live” experience. Take it or leave it, no refunds, as you will not want any – guaranteed. They are an encounter that will leave you dazed, amazed, crazed, and definitely craving for more. “The lyrics were written overnight, and as soon as they were done, we knew we had our title track. This song represents the overall mojo of the band and what we’re all about. The video was shot in an old USSR airport in Riga.“ adds the band.

Establishing their permanent lineup in 2017, the quintet has been performing attested, high-quality rock n’ roll all over Europe as an unstoppable freight train gig after gig. Their momentum has even landed them a performance at the Baltic region’s largest motorcycle festival “Kurland Bike Meet” in 2018.

With the emergence of such bands as Greta Van Fleet, the sudden popularity of the Queen biopic, and the Guns n’ Roses reunion, they all point to one thing, good ol’ rock n’ roll is slowly preparing for its long-awaited return to the spotlight. Quickstrike‘s sound is reminiscent of those aforementioned bands and so much more as they prepare to share with the world their first full length that’s been three years in the making.

“While pre-production was started in 2018, the actual tracks were laid down and mixed at Hodila Records in 2019. The mastering process took place at White Wide Productions in 2021. This debut is a pandora’s box with a vintage feel, topped off with a mix of the band’s attitude and raw energy. We’re bringing the old school into the new decade – sonic satisfaction guaranteed. But don’t just take our word for it, experience “None of a Kind” for yourself.” adds the band.

Album lyrics were mainly written by vocalist “Piggy” and rhythm guitarist “Ritchskies”. While drummer “Fourleaf Graves” very often adds a melody in his head for a song. Instrumentally, Quickstrike‘s songs have a pattern of “Ritchskies” constantly giving birth to riff after riff at each band practice or sometimes making them up on the go, he’s been dubbed “the riff machine”, and the band just builds from there.

After releasing the thought-provoking and socio-politically themed video for their song “Wake Up” last year, Washington, DC’s Never Elected is back with a new video for their song “Where You Belong”. The video touches on yet another serious topic. This time dealing with the struggles of mental health, a topic that is taboo to discuss openly in many cultures.

Vocalist Sujit Kumar adds:

“Sometimes you don’t know what’s worse. The reality you escape, when you fall asleep, or the nightmares that you forcefully wake up from.”

“Where You Belong” takes a look into the intertwined lives of three individuals, all dealing with different forms of depression, anger, and passive suicidal ideations. A therapist and a failed parent who abuses his own prescription drugs. A rocker and cross-dresser who is seeing a therapist for his depression, nightmares, and suicidal ideation. An angry corporate lawyer whose father killed his guitar-playing dreams, and often has intrusive thoughts on wanting to kill his parents.

Not just a music video, this is a short film.

Once again, Never Elected, while still working in isolation due to Covid, teamed up with Rahul Mukerji of Proviscocity LLC who brilliantly brought the idea and storyline to life.

Atlantic Canada’s Bone Tower is a fresh band, birthed this year in February, and they came together with one aim, to put the emotions from the surging global crisis into a tight, aggressive EP. The second single is “Under A Veil”, which is the angriest track on the EP. The band explains it in further detail:

“This song is pissed. There is more than one meaning, but it’s really written about the perception that you are always in the wrong, that who you are is a made-up persona, you aren’t good enough, and you should be exiled from everything positive in your life. This feeling couldn’t be further from the truth, and it is simply anxiety creeping in to say hello; A flurry of notes and blast beats being thrown at you really like to drive that idea deep into your head, though. Cower away under a veil of delusion.”

According to them, if this record doesn’t disorient you, stress you out, or give you a headache then they fucked up. The eight tracks span just over nine minutes but each one is full of chaos that pummels the listener straight away. There is no filler, no breaks, just a relentless barrage of blast beats, coarse vocals, and punishing riffs. It’s what whiplash sounds like.

This is the first project where Jonas DeViller (vocals/electronics/lyrics) writes lyrics and he says that the lyrics are mostly inspired by the irrational, negative thoughts that tend to get stuck in the back of his mind, disregarding what reality really looks like. He tried to be blunt and straight-to-the-point while presenting multiple meanings and several different ways of interpretation.

This is just the beginning for Bone Tower as they already are working on a follow-up record. Loud and noisy, they are recommended for fans of Pig Destroyer, Cryptopsy, and Atka.

About:
Bone Tower got its start early in 2021, with the sole purpose of channeling built-up negative energy and creating a hectic, pissed-off sounding record. Hailing from Atlantic Canada they got straight to the point through pummeling angry death metal.

Bone Tower is the musical equivalent of the chaos ensuing globally since last year. An angry jab back at the universe for anyone who was angry and watched the world unfold with racial upheaval, conservatives and conspiracists coming out of the woodwork against Covid, economic regression with millions losing jobs, the entire world changing beneath our feet, and for the politicians who claimed to be on our side but continue to fight against the truth.

The trio of Jonas DeViller (vocals/electronics/lyrics), Sean Carroll (guitar/bass), and Michael Bowers (guitar/bass/vocals) is a seasoned one at that and they were able to quickly write and produce their debut EP ‘We All Will Die One Day’ in two weeks. It came together as a whole very quickly and organically.

This is just the start for Bone Tower, they already have a follow-up record in the works. As of now, they are mostly a recording project but they intend on eventually playing shows. When they do finally play live, it’s bound to be just as fucked up as the recording.

Rockshots Records is proud to announce their signing of AMOTH for the release of their third album “The Hour of The Wolf” on January 28, 2022.

Amoth is a melodic progressive heavy metal band with progressive elements from Helsinki, Finland. Their upcoming album “The Hour Of The Wolf” is a huge leap forward compared to their previous recordings “Revenge” (2016), “Crossing Over” (2011), “Wounded Faith (EP) (2008).

“This is by far our best album yet! Superior performances from all of the musicians. Much better production and songwriting. It’s not a fast-food album. Some of the songs are quite complex so it takes probably more than one listen to really get into!” comments Amoth guitarist and main songwriter Tomi Ihanamäki.

Amoth’s roots are strongly founded on 80’s heavy metal, but branch out in different directions with elements from progressive rock, thrash, and even jazz brought to the table.

The new album features Pekka Montin of Ensiferum once again as the lead vocalist and for the first time, there are also keyboards on an Amoth recording. Fans can expect insane vocals and virtuoso-like playing from all members of the band. The nine songs are very diverse, taking sudden twists and turns into unexplored territory. Amoth even offers up two Steve Vai / Joe Satriani-style instrumentals on this new full-length with tracks “Wind Serenade Part I” and “Wind Serenade Part II”.

The band is currently streaming the first single “The Man Who Watches The World Burn”, a track loosely based on the Joker character from the Batman movies. It is also the only down-tuned song on the whole album and has a bass solo.

“The world is burning before your very eyes, how do you react? It’s a new world and it’s in chaos and you must adjust to that idea.”

Barbosa explains the track:

“Sound Of Rain is a soundtrack for a resting session at the end of a long and tiring journey or just an exhausting day. In every journey, there is a moment when we sit down, take a deep breath and try to make sense of all the learnings, mistakes and lessons we collect along the way. It is part of the learning process and it feeds the creative and constructive loops of any thought or idea we might be forming. Our subconscious does this process automatically during our dreams when we sleep. So, Sound Of Rain talks about owning this process, about Lucid Dreaming, by the sound of pouring water, in a comfortable and warm environment, where we lead the process of making sense of all what we learned so far in our life journeys, what is yet to discover and what path should we take to get to the final goal. In this case, the formation, comprehension and harvesting of the perfect Idea, the one that represents the best version of ourselves, a Hypercube on the top of the mountain. In order to transmit this message, elements of percussion, finger-style classical guitar, exploring harmonic features of the instrument, and organic rhythmics were used, over smooth by dynamic harmonic progression were implemented”

Terra brings a combination of musical, audiovisual and artistic experience that translates the personality and ideas of Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist Lucas Barbosa, resulting in a musical journey for those who love music and exploration of the new.

“The idea of Terra was always there, I believe. I have been composing and writing songs since I was 15. I needed a platform to structure and back these songs. This platform should allow me to combine some passions of mine: folk and metal music, traveling and photography. When I was around 20, I came up with the concept of TERRA, a project that would combine all the influences that made the musician and the person I am, in an organic manner, which would allow me to tell my stories of discoveries and exploration, including my experiences traveling through Brazil and throughout the world. It took about 10 years to actually find the environment and opportunity to bring this idea to life by recording Hypercube and kick-starting this journey.” comments Barbosa.

Terra’s first record is the outcome of the combination of elements put together to tell a story of a journey of growth and self-discovery, that frankly, could be the tale of every human being at some point in their lives. Ten songs are there to paint a picture of the artist’s personality and explore each step of the way with the respective deserved depth. Although heavy metal is the glue that unites all the musical nuances presented on this album, “Hypercube” does not shy away from a rich range of influences such as American Bluegrass, Country Music, Classic Rock, Classical Music, Western Folk, traditional Brazilian, Caipira and Sertanejo music along with passages of Samba, Capoeira, Bossa Nova and many others to convey its message. Lucas Barbosa was responsible for playing almost all instruments, including rhythm and lead guitars in all their forms (electric, classical, 6 string, 12 string), bass, Brazilian guitar (or Viola Caipira), Andean guitar (or Charango), Pan flute (Andean flute), harmonica, percussions and piano, in addition to performing all of the vocals in the songs.

Boston’s Fathom Farewell will be unleashing their new EP “Kraken” on October 22nd via Blood Blast Distribution. Before it officially drops, the New England metalcore powerhouse is sharing the latest music video for the single “Save Your Breath”, a track about being misunderstood, which is a common theme that has followed band founder and vocalist Alex Cohen throughout his life as he explains in further detail:

“From as long ago as I can remember I have been very energetic and maybe to some even at times overbearing. I’ve learned over time how to filter some of my actions based on who I’m around so I don’t interfere with their natural process of getting to know me. However, before I had a proper grasp on who I am, I definitely rubbed people the wrong way at times without intending to. I feel pit bulls specifically experience this every day. They are some of the most compassionate, empathetic and caring creatures we have on the planet and yet due to the misbehavior of a small few they are stigmatized as vicious and threatening. This was the main point I was considering when writing the song, I want it to be a voice for anything or anyone that’s persecuted for being misunderstood.”

Fathom Farewell‘s new EP “Kraken” was produced, mixed and mastered by Chris Piquette of No Boundaries Studios and the album artwork was done by Dixon of Intuitive Design. It will be the fourth release from the band following Consume The Earth (2019), Decomposition (2017) and Drowning Limits (2015).

Lyrically, the “Kraken” touches upon many things from our relationship to ourselves to our relationship to each other, through a metaphor of mental health being represented by an unfathomable sea creature.

Over the last couple of months, Canada’s Ravenous have been whetting our appetites for their latest offering “Hubris”. Now the main course is ready to dive into. The album is currently streaming on Decibel Magazine and will officially release on October 22, 2021 via Feast Beast Records (NA/EU) / Spiritual Beast (Asia).

The majority of the album was written in two weeks by vocalist R. A. Voltaire and guitarist Jake Wright who take an initial riff as the starting seed which is nurtured with chorus or pre and post-

Choruses laid upon with verses and bridges representing a slight departure in intensity or just “overall power-metalness”. That skeleton is then recorded in their home studio and distributed across all band members to implement changes – each member presents new or modified ideas pertaining to their instrument, and when the overall structure is confirmed, the lyrics are finally written. The band explains their method in their own words:

“The idea is not only to create a melody that resonates with listeners, and not only write inspiring, creative lyrics, but to also tie them together in a way that makes sense sonically and intuitively to the song (and of course, allows the singer to breathe at some point!) Each song on “Hubris” has been carefully penned as a cautionary tale reflecting the motif of arrogance and downfall. Those finalized demos become our listening material for months, as we carefully craft alternate versions and sections, even modified during the recording process.”

Ravenous takes performance, writing, and musicianship seriously, but allows tongue-in-cheek humour and pop culture references to resonate through the songs. From the symphonic Sabaton-esque “Carnage in Carthage” (best served with a shot of fireball and a meatball sub) to the straight rock n’ roll anthem “March of Hunger” (best served with a bong rip followed by taquitos and a slurpee) to the extra enjoyable, folk metal drinking song “Claw is the Law” featuring The Dread Crew of Oddwood’s accordions and mandolins, paired obvious, with White Claw.

Each of the ten tracks offers something different, so whatever your poison, whatever your midnight snack, Ravenous has the perfect musical accompaniment. They are recommended listening for fans of Sabaton, Unleash the Archers and Falconer.

“Hubris” was produced by Ravenous with mixing and mastering done by Fredrik Nordström (In Flames, Opeth, Firewind) along with album guests Vincent ‘Jake’ Jones of Aether Realm, Heinrich Yoshio of Aether Realm, Mathias Blad of Falconer, Nina Osegueda of A Sound of Thunder, The Dread Crew of Oddwood (Full Band).

“Hubris” releases on October 22, 2021 with a regular edition and a Japanese version with bonus tracks.

Canadian heavy metal powerhouse STRIKER is back from the grave!

With rumours running rampant of the band calling it quits after they posted an image that was titled “RIP Striker 2007-2021” on their social media earlier this week. The award-winning shredders are excited to reveal that it was all just an ambiguous post that got fans speculating on the band’s future and was made to prepare them for the new music.

“We are finally ready to share our new single Deathwish. Inspired by 1980s AOR with a modern twist, Deathwish is a heavy metal banger we can’t wait to play live someday soon!” adds vocalist Dan Cleary.

The single is the first taste of new recordings since releasing their Juno award-winning album 2018’s “Play To Win” along with it being Striker‘s introductory track with new drummer Jonathan Webster and bassist Pete Klassen who join the band in 2019.

In additional news, Striker was scheduled to support Unleash The Archers on their upcoming European tour this November, which was just recently announced as canceled. The band does vow there will be live shows in the cards for them in 2022 with concert updates to be shared when confirmed.

Canadian thrash act Infrared has a new video out for their track “No Master, No Gods”, which comes from their recently released album “From the Black Swamp”. Birthed back in 1986, their music is an experience that brings the listener back in time to the 80s, but with an ever so slight hint of modern metal bolstered by solid, high-quality production.

Infrared starts with a riff, from which the rest of the music spawns. The songs may have an energy that conveys a certain feeling which can lead to a lyrical topic or sometimes they just come up with a cool song title and then write lyrics to go with it. They share their thoughts on the energetic and fast “No Master, No Gods”.

“With blistering drums and riffs coupled with mid-tempo verses and slow grinding choruses, No Masters, No Gods is about the power of truth. When you have it, you will bow to no one; not to gods, profits, leaders, or even people in your interpersonal life.”

With three full-lengths and an EP under their belts, Infrared has no plans to slow down now. Going forward, they are going to stay true to their roots and write music in the vein of the Big Four while improving their stage show and touring when possible.

If Infrared sounds like classic thrash metal, that’s because they are! And rightfully so since they were making music as teenagers in the mid to late 80s back when the Big 4 (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax) were just becoming famous. They literally lived and breathed that scene as it was happening and garnered national attention in Canada through their song and video for Thoughts Caught (in Between).

Then….life happened and members took different paths and the music, that was hot in the underground metal scene and loved by demo tape traders near and far, went dormant for 27 years! In 2014 Infrared reunited with 3 of the original 4 members (Kirk, Armin, and Alain), and since original bassist Shawn Thompson had moved to Miami, they recruited Mike Forbes. They worked hard to release their first full-length album, No Peace (2016), featuring songs written all those years ago. 2018 saw Infrared release their sophomore album, Saviours, featuring 8 new songs coming in at just over 50 minutes of music! That was followed up by their 2019 EP, Back to the Warehouse featuring the last of their 80’s written songs and released as a bridge to their next full-length album. Now, in 2021, Infrared release their most mature album yet, From the Black Swamp. The album features 12 songs for one hour of hard-hitting and emotionally charged songs steeped in the themes of betrayal and malicious sabotage in all walks of life, from societal to interpersonal. With several high-profile concerts under their belts including opening for Anvil, Sacrifice, Razor, Venom Inc., Dirkschneider, Flotsam and Jetsam, DBC, E-Force, and Atrophy, Infrared raises their horns and looks forward to getting out there to meet and befriend metal lovers everywhere!

The five tracks on CroMagnum‘s new EP “Born Free” take the listener on a range of musical journeys, from “End Your Slavery” encouraging you to get out of the doldrums and the despair of the prison you’ve let society put you in; to the true origin story as told in “Waterval Boven”; to the reflection of trust presented in “Congregation” with its fast and furious riffs that open up into an epic chorus.
