NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 1, 2022

Italian proggers EVEN FLOW announce they will be releasing their latest EP “Mediterraneo” this coming October 2022. The EP follows their three EPs “Dream Weaver” (2008), “Mother” (2019), and “Flower Paths” (2013), and two albums “Life Has Just Begun” (2017) and “Ancient Memories (2011).

“Mediterreano” sees the band approaching the record with progressive metal in the rhythm with vocal lines oriented towards power metal with AOR eighties influences. Lyrically, the EP speaks of love, hope, sadness, and joy for the future. Guitarist Pietro Paolo Lunesu explains the record in further detail:

“The five songs that make up Mediterraneo are gloriously uplifting anthems that draw you from your world of cares and worries into an exhilarating musical realm of dreams. The songs are concise and finely honed, yet seem to contain an ever-expanding universe to explore within their duration. For example, the title track, ‘Mediterraneo’, is perhaps the EPs crowning glory, building through multiple layers, each more captivating than the last, but in truth every note from the first bombastic chords that usher in opener ‘Ocean Lies’ to the final spiraling guitar solo of ‘Mediterraneo’ is sheer melodic, progressive metal perfection.”

The EP was immaculately mixed and mastered by Michele Guaitoli (Visions Of Atlantis, Temperance) with spectacular artwork by Mickael Briot of Mythrid Art (Nightmare).

“Mediterraneo” also features Even Flow‘s new lineup with vocalist Marco Pastorino (Fallen Sanctuary, Temperance) and bassist Luca Negro (Temperance) joining the Lunesu brothers Pietro Paolo (guitar) and Giorgio (drums).

The band has released their music video for the EP’s opening track “Ocean Lies”, which was the first song written for the record.

“I thought of opening the EP ”Mediterraneo” with Ocean Lies because I considered it the most powerful, but at the same time with a great musical balance characterized by a softer part and a part a bit Latin in the guitar solo section. Lyrically, the song represents at times, the desolation of the world, but at the same time thinking optimistically for the future.” adds Pietro.

The music video for “Ocean Lies” can be seen and heard at https://youtu.be/CL7p2lvkM58

Over the years, since making their debut in 2008 with their EP “Dream Weaver”, Even Flow has done multiple tours across Europe and has supported bands such as Serious Black, Firewind, Eluveitie, Iron Savior, Katatonia, Orphaned Land, Katatonia, Pain Of Salvation among many more.

Due out on October 3rd, “Mediterraneo” is the next majestic level of achievement for Even Flow and is recommended for fans of Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Stratovarius, Angra, and Queensryche.

Montreal’s ETERNAL CLOSURE Presents Lyric Video “Dimensions Apart”

New Album “At the Center of It All – Chapter I” Out Sept 2022 – Produced by Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy)

L-R : Marine Lacarrière (guitar), Phil Lemelin (guitar), Olivier Boitel (guitar, back vocals), Katrine Castonguay (main vocals), Philippe Boitel (drums), Jonathan Lauzon (bass, back vocals)

Montreal’s Eternal Closure have a new album coming out in September and the third single they have ready for fans is “Dimensions Apart” in the form of a lyric video. Since their conception ten years ago, they have been constantly evolving – what started as a metalcore cover band has become a proggy, djenty powerhouse with deep gutturals, piercing cleans, and three guitarists that pummel the listener from all sides. The single is the first time the band utilizes 7-string guitars, lending to extra thickness and variety. Main songwriter and guitarist Olivier Boitel details the track:

“This one was mainly written by bassist Jonathan Lauzon, but had a bit of a different structure initially. It’s more-or-less the sequel to a song from our album “Screaming In Silence” called “Wake Up Dead”. It was also mixed with ideas he had for other songs that were never used. It’s a pretty straightforward banger, with me showcasing my grittier singing. I wrote and recorded the drums which was a lot of fun. Lyrically, it’s about the disconnect between generations that was created in part by technology.”

When it comes to Eternal Closure’s lyrics, Boitel speaks from the heart; they come from a personal place and are rarely about a fictionalized character. Compared to their other albums, there is less storytelling on “At The Centre Of It All – Chapter I”, it is all about how Boitel thinks and feels about different subjects. Presented in two parts, it’s not quite a concept album, but many lyrics and musical ideas are re-used throughout.

With the new addition of vocalist Katrine Castonguay, Eternal Closure is confident they will stand out, with a meaner sound that offers a satisfying listening experience for a wide range of metalheads not just those into core. They boast no filler, just six solid, headbanging tracks. They are recommended listening for fans of Currents, Trivium, and Periphery.

“Dimensions Apart” can be seen and heard via its premiere on NewFuryMedia HERE.

The full album “At The Centre Of It All – Chapter I” comes out on September 23, 2022.

About:

Eternal Closure is a six-piece, female-fronted metal band from Montreal, Quebec. They stand out from the heavy local scene with their unique blend of aggressive riffs, versatile vocals, and epic melodies. They draw inspiration from various sub-genres such as metalcore, progressive metal, and djent. Their hard work and dedication is only matched by their excessive love for cats.

The group formed by guitarist and singer Olivier Boitel, bassist Jonathan Lauzon, and drummer Philippe Boitel, was recently joined by vocalist Katrine Castonguay as well as guitarists Marine Lacarrière and Phil Lemelin, to evolve into its ultimate form.

The band has created their most ambitious record to date, “At the Center of It All”. The album will be split into two chapters, the first of which will be released in the fall of 2022. The song “Practice What You Preach” will be released as a single a few months prior.

The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Cryptopsy’s guitarist and sound engineer Christian Donaldson (Shadow of Intent, Beyond Creation, Despised Icon, The Agonist).

Over the past decade, the band explored what makes them unique. Their songs “I Won’t Fall” and “Defying Gravity” have become a staple in Montreal’s metal scene. They have opened for renowned bands like The Agonist, Ice Nine Kills, Beyond Creation, Obey the Brave, and Red Handed Denial.

0 Canadian Thrashers TRISKELYON Signs w/ Moribund Records For New Album “Downfall” Out Oct 2022

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – August 29, 2022

Canadian Thrashers TRISKELYON Signs w/ Moribund Records For New Album “Downfall” Out October 2022

Canadian melodic power thrashers Triskelyon announces the release of their debut album “Downfall” for October 28th, 2022 via Washington state-based extreme metal label Moribund Records.

Founded by Geoff Waye, guitarist for Artach and Category VI, Triskelyon was conceived in late 2021 as a studio-only project. By January 2022, the band featuring contributions from vocalists Pete Healey and Marlee Ryley (Hyperia), along with drum programming by Raul Marques (Burning Torment) made their introduction to the metal world with a 3-track self-titled EP.

Composed and written mostly by Geoff Waye, with drum programming provided by Raul Marques, “Downfall” sees the band’s next evolution as their first full length and it utilizes a myriad of both male and female guest vocalists from Oberon, Hyperia, Catagory VI and Incidium. “Downfall” has a range and depth of sound unique in today’s modern thrash metal scene, setting the band ahead and apart from the hordes of young new acts. Triskelyon also features guest bass appearances from members of Afterforever and Category VI, making Triskelyon a veritable super group of the Canadian metal scene.

Depicting a nature taking over post-apocalyptic view on our ever-screwed-up world, Triskelyon keeps with 80’s thrash tradition employing world-ending yet self-empowering socially conscious lyrical themes. From straight-up 80’s thrashers like “Odyssey (Blessed by Steel)”, to the power metal laced “Find A Way”, and more anthemic thrash tracks such as “Hunger” and “Willful Ignorance”, “Downfall” is sure to satiate even the most discriminating old-school and modern thrash metal fan alike! The album even features a unique and thrashing rendition of the Billy Idol song “Nobody’s Business”.

Album was mixed/mastered by Michael Small with the post-apocalyptic cover art by IvaanMR11.

With “Downfall”, Triskelyon deliver an amazing headbanging album that harkens back to the old-school days of such luminaries as Forbidden, Agent Steel, Sentinel Beast, Détente, Overkill, and Testament.

Pre-orders for Triskelyon‘s debut album “Downfall” are available at the following links:

“The three songs have the rage, heaviness and some rawness you expect from thrash, but also the melody and speed you’ll find in the more aggressive and harsher forms of power metal (no flowery stuff here, people). Pete’s vocals definitely are more of the aggressive heavy/power metal variety while Marlee shakes the hell out of the speakers with a more aggressive and harsher, yet high-pitched style.” – The Metal Crypt

“This is the kind of band that really plays that pure, raw, seething thrash metal that I love.” – Wings of Death

“Classic heavy thrash, catchy quick stuff with big screamy vox! Great stuff!” – WORT 89.9FM – Mosh Pit Radio – Madison, WI

“The EP thunders around the listener’s ears with a massive, powerful sound and gripping guitar riffs, but is also arranged with great attention to detail. Geoff Waye also acts as lead guitarist in the melodic as well as brute playing with pinpoint accuracy… Thrash fans who expect more than just head banging should remember the name TRISKELYON.” – PowerMetal.de

“What does Melodic Thrash sound like? Well in the eyes (and ears) of Geoff Waye it sounds like Thrash with influences of Traditional Metal, so you have plenty of heavy chugging Thrash riffs, separated by Traditional Metal bridges and big choruses. Opening cut “Hunger” sounds like a classic Anthrax cut from the “Spreading The Disease” era, with Iron Maiden influences all over it and Pete Healey’s higher pitched vocals only enhancing that nostalgic feel.” – Metal Noise

Montreal, QC – August 25, 2022

Streaming Now! Calgary’s SYRYN’s New Album “Heads or Tails” Tells Epic Tales of Mermaids, Sailors, and Pirates!

New Album “Heads or Tails” Out Aug 26th

Ft. Album Guests Amanda Kiernan (ex-The Order of Chaos, ex-Into Eternity),
Craig Carswell (Producer, Singer /Songwriter, Dorians Mirror, Court of Cardinals)

It’s story time with Calgary, Canada’s Syryn, and their new album “Heads or Tails”, an epic record to take you on the high seas with mermaids, sailors, and pirates. The album officially releases on August 26th and before it does, the band is streaming it in full via MetalInsider HERE.

The band adds:

“This album was a blast to write! We’ve been holding on to these riffs for a long while, and hopefully, the anticipation is exactly what our fans were waiting for. We’ve got a mix of thrash, rock, metal, and ballads on this one. We are extremely proud of this album from all angles. The songwriting, lyrics, art, and production quality show the effort we put in. It’s something we know we’ll be proud of in the years to come.”

Syryn‘s sophomore album “Heads or Tails”, is a record full of growth, diversity, and a much more collaborative effort as a whole compared to the band’s debut full-length “Beyond the Depths” along with co-writing with guest vocalists Amanda Kiernan (ex-The Order of Chaos, ex-Into Eternity) and Craig Carswell (Producer, Singer /Songwriter, Dorians Mirror, Court of Cardinals). “Head or Tails” is more a themed album branching out into the Pirate/Sailor’s perspective and beyond. The band wanted to continue on the storytelling of a Siren’s journey, touching on as many aspects of it as they could fit onto the record (including the many emotions we go through in everyday life: Love, fear, anger, happiness, sadness, regret, etc.). Syryn also wanted to shake things up and create something a bit out of their regular musical realm, no two songs are alike and that makes the band more difficult to categorize. They try to incorporate all their influences into their own sound with a wide array of styles to adhere to many people’s tastes.

0 “Circle” The Repeat Button – Toronto Proggers POLARITY Shares Video Off New EP “Live Off The Floor at Jukasa Studio”

“Circle” The Repeat Button – Toronto Proggers POLARITY Shares Video Off New EP “Live Off The Floor at Jukasa Studio”

L-R – Julian Ryan Craig (Drums), Sheldon Fernandes (Guitar), Jasmine Virginia (Vocals), Deren Bostanci (Bass), Michael Sitana (Guitar)

Toronto proggers POLARITY are offering fans a little taster in the form of a new EP entitled “Live Off The Floor at Jukasa Studio”. The EP was recorded in collaboration with JUNO Award-winning producers Darren Magierowski and Jill Zimmermann (Alexis on Fire, Protest The Hero). During the live-off-the-floor recording sessions, the band was filmed by renowned videographer Mike Filsinger (30 Seconds to Mars, Three Days Grace) who captured the intensity and finesse of the band’s performance.

Polarity released two of the videos earlier this summer and is now ready to unveil the third video for the final track “Circle”, the band’s most technically metal / jazzy alternative song on the record.

“I honestly think there are so many different types of POLARITY fans and with these three songs, there is something for everyone. For ‘Circle’, this is the first song where we’ve overlaid screaming with a clean vocal, which we’re loving so you’ll be hearing more of this type of thing coming from us in the future. For the meaning of track itself, Circle is about the circle and cycle of being stuck in a relationship that you just know isn’t for you which seems to be a huge part of the human condition. So many people I know and I’ve been in the situation before, where we feel we are trapped or stuck in a broken relationship. It’s a continuous circle of fighting and then making up but still knowing and feeling confused as to why you keep running this circle that is not working ….until it’s finally broken, if it ever is….?” adds vocalist Jasmine Virginia.

“Circle” can be watched and heard via its premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

Digital pre-save – (insert link)

Polarity‘s fifth recorded offering will be released on August 26th and is their first new music since releasing the 2019 EP “Trilateral”. Featuring three tracks recorded live off the floor, it’s all-natural, pure talent being showcased from the proggy 7-minute opening epic “Destruction of Memory”, to “Terra Firma”, which blends a bit of their softer side with some straight-up rock riffs, to EP closer “Circle”, that pushes the band to new limits from clean to scream vocals along with intricate jazzy and dissonant chords while playing interesting rhythms into hard-hitting breakdowns.

“We always want to take our listeners to different unexpected places, both powerful and vulnerable. I would say we like to surprise people and give them something unconventional that makes them really think. We’re not afraid to do things a little outside the box and sometimes that means asking people to listen a few times to a song before they really get it. We often get feedback once they do and they truly love it.” says Jasmine Virginia.

POLARITY is the result of a musical friendship lasting over a decade and has grown steadily since its inception in 2008. Their goal has always been to make music that makes a positive impact, and they have no plans of stopping anytime soon. Vulnerability is encouraged, expressed, and complemented by a rhythmic sensibility that cuts through the static and connects with audiences in a meaningful way.

The band has previously released two albums and two EPs working alongside Grammy-winning producer David Bottrill on their album “Action Potential” with mastering on all their recordings done by Joao Carvalho. Polarity also has hundreds of Canadian performances under their belt where they have supported bands such as Sum 41, Kittie, The Flatliners, The Agonist, Sumo Cyco, and more.

Recommended for fans of Thrice, Flyleaf, Incubus, and Deftones, POLARITY continues to be one of the most consistent DIY bands working today in Canada.

“Live Off The Floor at Jukasa Studio” will be available as of August 26th on Spotify, Polaritymusic.bandcamp.com, Apple Music

Canada’s Eaten By Sharks has been lying in wait to release their new album “Eradication” and the time has come for it to ascend to the surface. Album-wise, it’s a diverse combination of songs pulling from their influences in death, tech, and thrash metal. Each song has something different from the next one but it stays in line with the metal. The band comments about the record:

“We are so excited to set sail with the release of “Eradication!” The fact that it is being released and streaming have us stoked that our hard work gets the sendoff it deserves. We pull from various elements of thrash, Death-core, Traditional Death Metal, Tech-metal, and Hardcore and match that up with the horrors of the deep. Each of the songs on the EP has a different approach to our influences, however, it retains a solid instrumental and lyrical theme throughout the tracks. Conceptually, we keep things on the water and embrace the image of the fear and respect that comes from the breach of a single dorsal fin.”

“Eradication” toes the line of music and concept, metal meets shark. The album delivers seven tracks, lyrically depicting the horrors of mankind using oceanic imagery. Eaten By Sharks puts their best fin forward, pulling out all the stops to get the listener to drop anchor and experience the package as a whole. Lots of tasty treats await the discerning metal fan through their instrumental approach, as they progressively chomp through each song with razor-sharp riffs and bone-crunching rhythms.

“Eradication” was produced, mixed, and mastered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy) and the album artwork was done by Shindy Design. Eaten By Sharks is recommended for anyone brave enough to dive headfirst into the horror as well as fans of Gojira, Despised Icon, and Fit For An Autopsy.

“If you’re new to the group, they’re from Ontario, and like the majority of Canadian tech-death bands, they’re damn good at what they do. Don’t let the goofy band name and oddball cover art fool you, this is not amateur hour stuff… As for what the song has to offer, “Depth Charge” is built on continual flipping back and forth between heavy groove terrain and frenetic riffs aided by ripping leads. In doing so, the song feels almost wave-like in its structure, an ever-changing stream of back and forth battling going on underwater. From the time I’ve spent listening to the full release, this is definitely an album many of you will enjoy.” – Metal Injection

“These guys are all business, and put together a pretty compelling, often crushing effort ” – Metal Rules

“Shit, did they put on a solid show and constantly required crowd interaction. They seamlessly blended classic and modern death metal with some technical flare here and there. I was thoroughly impressed with this awesome band, and can only add another solid band to the ever-growing laundry list of opening bands that may or may hit hit the spot…..and Eaten By Sharks fucking shredded!” – Technical Music Review (Live Review – Eaten By Sharks Opening for First Fragment – St. Catharines, ON -12-2-18)

“They groove a ton, with some sweet guitar licks for good measure to keep your ears engaged. They’re a mix of classic and new death metal, and just as ferocious.” – Technical Music Review

Edmonton, Canada’s All Else Fails knows a thing or two about the local music game with an impressive nine albums under their belts since getting together fifteen years ago. They have another work ready for audiences this year, one that is personal, direct, and in the current era, more relatable. “The Incident at Black Lake” is 25 minutes of technical, harsh, and melodic metal that is being supported by show dates in September.

Initially, the band toyed with releasing the album as one long track, but has broken it into digestible singles that will be released in the coming months. They do recommend listening to it as a whole, ideally on headphones, or with a great home speaker setup. They spent a lot of time working on the sonic headspace of this release. Vocalist/guitarist Barrett Klesko explains the personal background of the first single “Flesh/Excess/Wealth”:

“This song explores the horror of having the sense of my own humanity removed from my conscious existence. I put progress and individualism over kindness and community, I have forgotten that I am part of a greater universe to which humanity has barely opened our eyes at. I hurt myself in the name of our god; currency, I humiliate myself at the altar of ego. I place the needs of the unknown few above the wanting many and am often not aware of doing so. This song is about disconnection. Musically it is oppressive, militant, violent, and aggressive.”

“Flesh/Excess/Wealth” is a violent, dystopian assault on the senses. The depths of its endless despair are contrasted ever slightly by the glimpse of hope in its reminder that we are more, we come from dust and will return to it, as do the stars, as will the Earth. The softer, ethereal eastern musical elements are employed to offset the crushing march of industrial percussion, a nod to the band’s recent experiences in India.

The song is heavy, fast, and technical while carrying an ambient melodic beauty in its pre-choruses and bridge. Backed by thrashy guitars and animated drums, the driving chants in the vocals are huge, evoking a feverish mass hysteria. It is recommended listening for fans of Chimaira, Killswitch Engage, and Revocation.

The single “Flesh/Excess/Wealth” can be heard via its premiere on Spaceuntravel – https://youtu.be/gozwhiGftJM

The album “The Incident at Black Lake” is out on September 30, 2022.

About:

Over the last 15 years, Edmonton, Alberta based award-winning metal band All Else Fails has become a cornerstone of the melodic heavy metal community in Canada. Combining intense riffs, intricate rhythm sections, brutal guttural screams, and melodic yet unusual vocal lines paired with relevant and relatable lyrics, All Else Fails’ message resonates with us all.

Formed in 2006 with the release of their self-titled EP, All Else Fails has gone on to release 9 studio albums, many of which have garnered awards and nominations from across the Canadian music industry and have propelled the band into live performances all over the world, including their massively successful tour of India in 2017.

For the past two years, the band has been hard at work writing their new album “The Incident at Black Lake.” A deeply personal, brutally honest, and staggeringly complex take on the reality-bending mental struggles of vocalist and founder, Barrett Klesko (The Misfires, The Order of Chaos). The band is filled out by guitarist John Saturley (The Order of Chaos, Skepsis), bassist and vocalist Coco Lee (Eternal Prophecy), and drummer Nelson Collins-Lee (The 21st Agenda, Skepsis). The album is produced by Bevin Booth of In the Booth Recordings and engineered at The Electric Treehouse in Edmonton, Alberta.

In 2022, the band is returning to their DIY roots by mindfully abandoning their social media and redirecting their energy to contributing to their local metal scene by building a direct personal connection to their fans and followers, living in line with a humanist philosophy and encouraging a culture of support between artists. All Else Fails’ new single “Flesh /Excess /Wealth” drops in early September with the full EP “The Incident at Black Lake” releasing September 30th. Fans can experience their explosive new live show this fall in Western Canada.

“They are by turns pissed and melodic, speedy and anthemic – but always organic sounding….their song “The Sons Of Plenty”, a tune that encompasses all those things and demonstrates what the band is capable of.” – Gear Gods (The Forever Lie 2017)

“Guttural heaviness + impacting music = You’ll like it!” – CFMU 93.3 FM – Master Radio (Hamilton, ON) ( The Forever Lie 2017)

“From song to song you are greeted by pummeling riffs, heavy blasting drums, thick bass lines and vocals that transition between menacing and deadly growls to soaring and highly intoxicating cleans. Before you know it All Else Fails has you headbanging and singing along to each of their songs.” – Cadaver Garden (The Forever Lie 2017)

“this six track EP sees this quartet expand their mutant thrash blueprint with doses of melodic crooning and bursts of dizzying orchestral strings on Obedience At The Altar Of Sacrifice.” – Metal Hammer Mag UK (Fucktropolis – 2013)

““Fucktropolis”. What an awesome name for an EP. And what an awesome EP it is.” – Metal Temple (Fucktropolis – 2013)

“They have a very ominous sound, if you will, with quick, intricate and skillful instrumentals – especially the drumming. Their talent really shows through in their final product.” – Spill Magazine (Fucktropolis – 2013)

The deadly duo of Canada’s Greber is a harsh hardcore concoction that has a solid new LP “Fright Without” coming out this year. Since getting together way back in 2006, they have come out with an impressive array of albums including four full-lengths and six splits with a myriad of crushing bands. Thus far, they have put out two singles and are now following them up with a third in order to get fans stoked on the new release. The single “Tree Carving” is the shortest track on the album, at just a minute and a half, but it delivers a full barrage of grindy low end, backed by aggressive drums. They explain the single further:

“As Robert MeKee proclaimed in Charlie Kaufman’s “Adaptation” – “Wow them in the end, and you got a hit. You can have flaws, problems, but wow them in the end, and you’ve got a hit.” Well, hopefully, the listener is wowed with this short rager of a song and this record is a SMASH HIT. Lyrically it’s a trifecta of three paths with four souls hosting many regrets and no foreseeable way to undo it all.”

Greber is the powerhouse duo of Steve Vargas (drums/vocals) (The Great Sabatini, BIIPIIGWAN) and Marc Bourgon (bass, vocals) (ex-F*ck The Facts, Cancelled) who deliver a full sonic assault of grind and hardcore, leveraging the small member count to allow for more flexibility in their writing process. Bourgon, who writes the skeletal structures for the songs, always starts with lyrics – sometimes even just a title. He carries a journal around with him and the fleeting observations that make it in there, are what inspires most of his conceptual content. He says that “we all have this beautiful gift of seeing the world very differently than the next person and I’ve found that capturing those nuanced differences to be both liberating and maddening.”

Bands that are hard to pigeonhole, are the kind of bands that the guys in Greber enjoy and they love that they can do something different and not completely cause anyone to retch. Or CAUSE them to retch in a good way. They are recommended listening for fans of Cult Leader, Primitive Man, and Black Sheep Wall.

“Tree Carving” can be heard via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

“Fright Without” is slated for September 9, 2022, and will be available from the following labels: Ancient Temple and Nofuneral for Vinyl, CD, and Cassette in Canada, Hibernation Release for Vinyl in the USA, and 7 Degrees and Fresh Outbreak for Vinyl in Europe.

0 Canada’s AQUILA Unleash “The Great Fire”, A New Music Video and EP of Aggressive and Progressive Brutality

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – August 18, 2022

Canada’s AQUILA Unleash “The Great Fire”, A New Music Video and EP of Aggressive and Progressive Brutality

Hamilton, ON, Canada’s AQUILA return in 2022, after taking a short vow of silence since releasing two EPs in 2020 “Valle Mortalitatis” (Feb) and “Jewel of the Empire’s Crown” (July). The band recently unleashed this past June their latest offering entitled “The Great Fire”, which continues their love affair with historical stories of the Roman Empire.

“We write about Roman events and themes like battles and certain emperors. It was brutal times back then, so the listener gets a little history lesson as well. I write my own twists and spice things up for the story in the song.” adds vocalist Mark Arruda.

“The Great Fire” is a concept record of four songs about the Roman Emperor Nero who is known for killing Christians and The Great Fire of Rome (Jul 18, 64 AD – Jul 23, 64 AD). This recording is musically the most brutal and progressive material the band has written emphasizing the METAL into METALcore once again.

“This is our best material to date. It’s brutal, heavy, and catchy and it’s a rollercoaster ride. It has the Aquila sound still with some added influences to our sound. We have matured as people and as songwriters during this time of the pandemic. To be honest, this EP saved us from going crazy during these troubled times. It helped us stay focused and motivated through it all. I hope people give it a listen, we are metal fans and metal lovers. I’ve been in metal bands since 1999 and I’m, I mean, WE are so proud of this EP.” comments Arruda.

The opening and title track “The Great Fire” starts off slow and then it explodes. It is the band’s traditional straightforward in-your-face track with a Power Trip style breakdown in the middle of the song. The lyrics are about Nero causing the fire and that he wanted it to happen. From there you enter the “Emperor’s Curse”. This song starts off brutal and it is a rollercoaster of a track, traveling into Tool-like drumming and guitars with a catchy hook at the end of it. It’s the most progressive song AQUILA has ever written and was inspired by their own song, “Bound For Glory”, from their 2009 debut album “Imperium”. After a very brutal beheading and crucifixion of Christians to Nero taking his own life, track 3 “A City Risen” is about what Nero is thinking before he takes his life or even after his death. The song is at a slower pace, but hits heavy with many hooks. “I think it’s my best vocal performance ever. I used my singing range for this one, not just straight death metal vocals for this one,” says Arruda.

EP closer, “The Plague of Galen” was written when vocalist Mark Arruda and drummer Mark McGuire reconnected just before the Covid pandemic and felt it was fitting to write a song about a plague that happened in Rome many centuries ago. The song has a melodic death metal feel to it that you can certainly headbang to. The breakdown in the middle is crushing, ending with Iron Maiden-influenced guitar playing.

With all its fury and melodic groove, “The Great Fire” is just the next taster for fans old and new alike, as the band continues writing for a full-length album to be released in the near future. The band adds:

“We want our listeners to experience the emotions on this EP, there are elements to headbang to and elements of anger and sadness as well. Each track is different from one another with a lot of hills and valleys.”

And local fans in Hamilton, ON will be able to experience them live for the first time since 2014. The band will be performing on September 2nd at Doors pub alongside Kings In Graves, With Fists Open, and Demise of Ourselves. More info here.

Recommended for fans of Gojira, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, and In Flames, AQUILA‘s new EP “The Great Fire”, released on June 30th is available on Spotify, Aquilametal.bandcamp.com (CD), Apple Music.

About:
Aquila is a Canadian metalcore band from Hamilton Ontario. The roots of their sound are from the early 2000s metal scene.

They started in 2006 with Matt McGuire (drums) and Anthony Rimac (guitarist) in Windsor Ontario. In 2009, Aquila entered the studio with Chase Bryant (current bassist for Warbringer), Matt Shelson (guitarist), and Mark Arruda (vocalist) and began working on their debut album, Imperium, with Glenn Fricker in Windsor, Ontario. From 2009 to 2013, they toured for their album across Canada, including a lengthy east and west coast tour, and multiple weekly shows in Ontario. Sharing the stage with the likes of Cryptopsy, The Agonist, Misery Index, Threat Signal, and many more, Aquila with their aggressive stage attitude can sure entertain and work the crowd.

In 2020, Aquila released 2 Eps, Valle Mortalitatis and Jewel of the Empire’s Crown. The 7 songs were recorded back in 2013 with Glenn Fricker, but were never released at that time.

Now with new guitarist Tony Medina and bassist Colin Wakil, Aquila worked hard to release a new EP called The Great Fire in 2022. The 4 songs were written, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Aquila. A video for the title track, The Great Fire, was recorded by the band as well.

“We started writing for this EP in 2020. The pandemic made it very difficult to get together. We also had to find a new guitarist. Once Tony joined the band he quickly learned the songs and started helping us record and mix ourselves. No pressure, just us in our element. I think the growth and maturity in our sound on this Ep. is obvious. This Ep is us, brutal and in your face.” – Mark Arruda – Aquila

Aquila’s latest EP “The Great Fire” was released on June 30th, 2022, and is available on all digital platforms.

– 30 –

“Aquila strikes that excellent balance between aggression, heaviness, and constructing memorable earworms that keeps up listener engagement. The Great Fire embodies an ideal melodeath metalcore product – ready to take the band up from the underground into making worldwide impressions with their music.” – Dead Rhetoric (2022)

“There are plenty of great guitar solos and fills on this album, with the ones in ‘Bound For Glory’ and ‘Within These Flames’ especially standing out…. Aquila’s “Imperium” brings the fury back to metalcore, creating an album full of aggressive vocals and face-melting riffs and solos. “Imperium” is a mostly great debut from a band that’s hopefully on its way to even greater heights.” – Metal Underground (2010)

“A notable difference between Aquila and other Southern Ontario bands is that they thrash throughout their songs, have great guitar leads and refrain from plastering breakdowns throughout their music. They keep it raw and interesting…. Everyone should pick up a copy of Imperium next time Aquila comes to your town. Fans of Assassinate The Following, Unearth, Bloodshoteye and Odium will headbang to Aquila. This band will be legend… Wait for it…. dary.” – V13 (2011)

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal’s THE OCCULT Are Now Streaming Self-Titled Debut Album

Debut S/T Out August 19, 2022

Montreal’s The Occult is a punk-infused rock n’ roll outfit that is now streaming their debut self-titled album. Relentless, catchy, and gritty, The Occult blends all the best parts of grunge, thrash metal, and rock n’ roll into thirteen tracks with a variety of lyrical themes that will get listeners moving. The band started when vocalist/songwriter Eric Savanis penned the first track “In This Night” back in 2011, since then he has recruited other musicians to bring the project to life. He comments on the upcoming release:

“In the tarot, The Fool, represents a type of naive innocence. In the traditional Rider Waite deck, you can see The Fool starting his journey with one foot about to go over a cliff. He might complete his journey or fall to his death. He’s having a little bit too much fun to realize that he should probably mind his surroundings. This sentiment is exhibited perfectly on the record. There was a sense of careless, edge of a knife, abandonment when I was writing it. The themes are definitely unhinged in certain places which makes for an interesting story.”

Amidst the dark lyrical content such as murder, politics, and disdain for religion, The Occult is ultimately a celebratory band. They like to ensure that people leave the show with a smile. Hoping that people will forget their problems and become fully immersed in the music, they hope to provide a transcendental experience. Well-rehearsed, they don’t get on stage and wing it, they are dedicated, passionate, and meticulous about their music. Savanis hints that there is even more material waiting in the wings, so those thirsty for more should keep an ear out for future releases.

The record was produced by Savanis; mixed and mastered by Maxime Philippe. The wide range of influences makes The Occult suitable for listeners across the punk and metal spectrums, especially those with an interest in The Ramones, Type O Negative and Life of Agony.

The album is streaming now in full via its premiere on IDIOTEQ HERE.

The self-titled album will be available on August 19, 2022.
