They’ve become one of the most forward‑thinking acts in modern extreme metal. Their breakthrough album, Where Owls Know My Name, charted on the Billboard 200, cementing their reputation for pushing genre boundaries. The band has released five studio albums, including their most recent self‑titled record, Rivers of Nihil (2025), which marks a new era with a refreshed lineup and an evolution of their sound.

Supporting day two of AMF is Into Eternity, the Canadian (Regina, SK) progressive/melodic death‑metal veterans whose nearly three‑decade career is defined by technical precision, soaring clean vocals, fierce growls, and dramatic, forward-driven songwriting. Currently, they are finishing their long‑awaited new studio album, their first with vocalist Stu Block (ex-Iced Earth) since his return to the band. Fans will feel the emotional intensity and a powerful blend of old‑school roots and modern, boundary‑pushing metal energy that this band projects to the masses.

Also featured on day two of the festival is Vintersea, a band whose identity is shaped by the Pacific Northwest and a blend of extreme and atmospheric metal elements. They bring a distinctive mix of melodic death metal, blackened textures, post‑metal atmosphere, and intricate musicianship, rooted in their origins in Portland and Corvallis, Oregon.

Other standout attractions at this year’s AMF include a return from festival alumni and Vancouver heavy‑metal champions Iron Kingdom, performing in support of their upcoming sixth studio album “Shadows and Dust,” arriving in June. The Okanagan’s own Odinfist will mark their 20th anniversary with a special set featuring fan favourites from across their catalogue. Also on the bill are Nott, the Seattle‑based deathcore/sludge duo known for their bleak atmosphere and Alaska‑to‑Washington roots, and Edmonton’s genre‑defying force The Judge The Juror, whose sound blends elements of PsyDeathTechProg into something entirely their own.

About:

Since its inception in 2009 (with a brief hiatus in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic), West Metal Entertainment and Armstrong MetalFest have championed hundreds of local bands while welcoming renowned international acts to the quiet town of Armstrong, British Columbia.

Every year, metalheads from across Canada and the U.S. converge on the scenic Okanagan Valley for three days of camping and two days packed with heavy metal mayhem. Under the blazing summer sun, fans revel in live performances, wrestling spectacles, scavenger hunts, and reconnecting with their extended metal family.

Armstrong MetalFest has hosted legendary headliners such as Kataklysm, Cattle Decapitation, Archspire, Nekrogoblikon, Origin, Warbringer, Fallujah, Striker, Beyond Creation, Born of Osiris, Havok, The Browning, Virvum, and rising stars from across North America and Europe. And when the final riff fades, the festival vanishes without a trace, leaving the landscape as untouched as it was before.

West Metal Entertainment, a non-profit society, not only produces Armstrong MetalFest annually but also supports the regional music scene by organizing performances at various venues, including all-ages shows, to inspire musical passion in both youth and adults.

What the press is saying:

“To close the night and the weekend, Born of Osiris delivered a high-octane headline set that tore the roof off. It was the perfect finale to an unforgettable weekend. When the last note rang out, it hit us — AMF 2025 was coming to a close. There’s always that bittersweet feeling as you start packing up. But that’s the beauty of this festival: it stays with you long after the amps cool down. Every year, Armstrong Metalfest brings together a community that truly loves heavy music. It’s not just about bands and beer — it’s about belonging. The friends you make, the moments you live, the memories that stick — they’re why we keep coming back. If you’ve never been to AMF, consider this your sign. It’s more than a music festival—it’s a metal rite of passage. Once you go, it gets into your blood. We’re already counting the days until the next one.” – Stan Schinners of Broken Neck Radio / Absolute Underground Magazine (Live Review AMF 2025)

About 600 heavy metal music fans will be traveling from across North America to listen to local and international death, thrash and black metal bands…. The 10-year anniversary is special for the organizers, as this is the first year they are providing a scholarship to an Armstrong high school music student.” – CHBC – Global TV Okanagan

Armstrong Metalfest brings aggressive music to the North Okanagan… It’s a beautiful day to go inside and rock out to some heavy metal music. Twenty-seven metal bands have converged in the North Okanagan for the 12th annual Armstrong Metalfest — two days of moshing in Hassen Arena at the IPE Fairgrounds. Metal fans don’t just come for the music, organizers say. It’s more like a family reunion.” – CHBC – Global TV Okanagan.

Canadian death metal outfit Harvested has dropped a ferocious, earworming band playthrough video for “Voices of the Void,” a standout track from their latest full-length album, “Dysthymia.” The video showcases the band’s technical prowess, raw aggression, and unrelenting energy, hallmarks of a sound they describe as “Heavy, Brutal, Fast, Aggressive and Violent.”

Formed in 2019 as a creative outlet for members of other local projects, Harvested has evolved into a powerhouse of modern death metal. With roots in bands like A Scar For The Wicked, Sons Of The Nether, Thalassophobia, and Fumigation, the group brings together a wealth of experience and a shared passion for pushing sonic boundaries.

“Voices of the Void” is a dynamic track that blends chaotic tempo shifts with crushing grooves, embodying the band’s signature fusion of old-school death metal and deathcore. Lyrically, it delves into themes of dissociation and psychological turmoil, part of the album’s overarching exploration of mental illness.

“This album is the evolution of our sound. We’ve taken influences from technical death metal giants like The Zenith Passage and Cattle Decapitation, but stayed true to our roots. Dysthymia is a level-up in every way—production, songwriting, and performance,” says guitarist Mitchi Dimitriadis.

The playthrough video offers fans an intimate look at the band’s musicianship, with each member delivering a tight, high-speed performance that reflects their commitment to precision and intensity.

“We pride ourselves on being athletes with our instruments. It’s not just about brutality, it’s about groove, cohesion, and constantly challenging ourselves,” adds Dimitriadis.

“Voices of the Void” is one of nine tracks on “Dysthymia,” each confronting different facets of psychological distress, from cult mentality and shadow selves to global political psychosis. The album’s artwork, a psychedelic depiction of mental chaos, complements its lyrical depth and sonic ferocity.

With “Dysthymia” now unleashed and the band’s live shows gaining momentum, Harvested is poised to make a lasting impact on the Canadian metal scene.

Prepare for a heavy, aggressive, and unforgettable ride with the full playthrough for “Voices of the Void” via its premiere on MetalInsider HERE.

“Canadian death metal band Harvested announce their new album Dysthymia, out August 1. The record will be their first release since their 2022 demo and blends technical, brutal and old-school death metal into a sound all their own.” – Decibel Magazine

“Your muscles are about to reflexively twitch, your head is about to hammer, your pulse is about to accelerate. Audio worms will slither into your ear canals and take up residence there. Some of your cranial neurons may start spinning, creating visions of fast devils and hulking monsters. Those are our predictions of what will happen when you see and hear the playthrough video we’re premiering for the song “Synaptic Confusion” by the Ottawa-based death metal band Harvested. It’s an excellent way to rev up your own motor as Harvested rev up theirs.” – No Clean Singing

“Dysthymia is an impressive first full-length effort for Harvested. It’s absolutely brutal and groovy in it’s more ’90s death metal approach, but they give it a modern coating of paint that makes it feel more relevant and weaves in some intricacy for the tech-fiends without losing sight that it’s still an aggressive death metal album. There’s something for pretty much anyone who likes extreme music here. A very promising future for these guys.” – Dead Rhetoric

“Lyrically poignant, brutally heavy, and bursting with engagingly twisted, hook-filled instrumentation, Dysthymia is a helluva debut, and one Harvested should be proud of. As poetically as I have waxed, I still believe there’s room for Harvested to grow. God help those who might lay their ears on a sophomore effort from this line-up, should they remain intact. Rest assured, I’ll definitely be watching and waiting. For now, however, I wholeheartedly recommend you spend some long-lasting, quality time with Dysthymia.” – Angry Metal Guy

“If you had the chance to see their video of ‘Harvested’ before the album release, you would be able to see how brutal and technical they sound. Harvested knows how to hit you like a punch in your chest, from their first riffs. By the way, riffs are something that you won’t miss here. Mitchi Dimitriadis and Vitto Oh are responsible machine-gun-like guitar picks. The drum sound also hits you with all blasts, and thankfully it’s not that digitalized soulless recording style that a lot of bands fall into now. It carries good organic production qualities, in good measure. My honourable congratulations also go to all the effort the bassist Eric Forget has made to keep his bass present among all the heaviness of the other instruments, and through the complexity of playing his own parts. The vocalist Adam Semler completes the team with good vocal lines… As always, Heavy Metal Canadian bands never disappoint us! And Harvested is one more band to honour its Heavy Metal scene with this incredible album, “Dysthymia”.8.5/10” – Ever -Metal

“If you’re into relentless death metal in the vein of CANNIBAL CORPSE and DYING FETUS, HARVESTED from Ontario could be your favorite new band. These guys have churned forth a classic of brutality with “Dysthymia”. The sound is just as clear and professional as those bands and HARVESTED deal crushing riffs and transitions with appalling intensity. One of the best things about this album, which separates it from a lot of “brutal” efforts, is that the songs are easily distinguishable and don’t melt together in a faceless mush.” – Wormwood Chronicles

“Following a demo released in 2022, Dysthymia represents a true validation of the potential of this group from Ottawa (Ontario, Canada), which deserves special attention. Combining brutal death metal with ‘old school’ influences, the quartet brilliantly demonstrates that their music will resonate with crowds during their concerts… With titles like ‘Repressed Neurosis’, ‘Unending Madness’, ‘Designed Dilemma’, ‘Gathered And Deluded’, ‘Unanchored’, or ‘The Infestation’, Harvested sets the tone! The album was produced by the band itself with mixing and mastering by Joe Lyko of Darkmoon Productions, achieving a modern sound that remains rooted in the fundamental elements of death metal.” – Metallian

“Harvested Delivers 50 Shades of Vicious on ‘Dysthymia’… Dysthymia is one of the year’s best metal records.”-The Rock Father

“If you like brutal death metal with technical elements, this is a great album.” – ZwareMetalen

“HARVESTED deliver flawless death metal with technical sophistication, powerful riffs, gripping vocals and brutal energy.” – MetalUnderground.at

“Harvested channel the struggles of mental illness within the seedy confines of death metal on their debut album, Dysthymia. The group doesn’t skimp on the gorier details, like the depictions of torture on opener “Harvested,” but much of the lyrical prose isn’t that graphic. It takes the views of mental illness from not only a personal perspective, but globally as well. Their death metal has nods to the classics like Cannibal Corpse and Suffocation, while adding a bit of technical bounce as they do on “Designed Dilemma.” Harvested does well with capturing the genre from every corner. Speed freaks will love “Gathered And Deluded,” those with some head banging in their hearts will get down to “Unending Madness” and “The Infestation” ends Dysthymia with a stark message.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“After knocking the first three tracks out of the park like a home run into the stratosphere, “Synaptic Confusion” goes harder and faster during an opening onslaught second to none before getting menacing and sinister with a slower churn and burn. A violent delight with a catchy hook and a scream-a-long lyrical narrative in the chorus, its the kind of blunt force trauma that everyone can enjoy without a visit to the hospital. Maintaining the quality levels of both musicianship and song writing throughout the record seems like an impossibility of reason and yet its probably why this record took three years to complete because “Designed Dilemma” is another absolute beast. It’s like the band have taken your favourite Death Groove Thrash cut and adrenalized it by mainlining caffeine until their eyes pop out on stalks. The energy levels are as ridiculous as the poise and precision as the band conjure a Technical Death Metal tune of the highest order.” – Metal Noise

Melodic deathcore outfit Sterilizing The Deceased has dropped a gripping new music video for “Recovery,” the opening track from their emotionally charged EP “Nothing,” released August 1st. Known for their bone-crushing breakdowns and atmospheric aggression, the Cleveland-based band delivers a visual experience as raw and visceral as the music itself.

“Recovery” dives deep into themes of personal reflection, addiction, and the struggle to find light in overwhelming darkness. The video mirrors the EP’s overarching narrative, a fictional/non-fictional journey through drug addiction and suicidal ideation, inspired by frontman Angelo Vespucci’s own battles. With imagery that evokes resistance, pain, and redemption, the video amplifies the track’s emotional weight and lyrical intensity.

“This song is about wondering where things went wrong and why they had to change. It’s the beginning of a story that’s deeply personal to me, and I wanted the visuals to reflect that internal war,” says Vespucci.

The EP “Nothing” marks a turning point for Sterilizing The Deceased, showcasing a mature sound that blends melodic deathcore, progressive metalcore, and djent influences. Fans of Reflections, Chelsea Grin, and old-school Lorna Shore will find familiar sonic territory, but with a distinct emotional edge. From the chaotic descent of “Self Meditated” to the cathartic rebirth in “Awake,” the EP offers a full-circle listening experience that encourages introspection and connection.

Formed in 2014, Sterilizing The Deceased has carved out a reputation in the Midwest metal scene, sharing stages with heavyweights like Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, and Slaughter to Prevail. With members also active in projects like xEIGHTY-SIXEDx, Lie In Wait, and Terra Vista, the band brings a wealth of experience and collaborative firepower to every release.

Experience the beginning of a journey through pain, purgatory, and ultimately, awakening with the music video premiere of “Recovery” via Decibel Magazine HERE.

“Sterilizing the Deceased know how to incorporate some vivid, resonating melodies into their deathcore structuring and it makes the listen more memorable for it.” – Dead Rhetoric

“Harrowing lyrical narratives are the stock in trade of Sterilizing The Deceased and “Awake” is no different, despite having a soaring guitar solo and leads that run throughout. The DJent fuelled groove of this one is neck snappingly good, a vision in blood and thunder that has been matched by the bands skull execution. If you need a new nightmare, this is it [8/10]” – Metal Noise

“This is some pretty solid Deathcore that’s straight up savage and brutal, it’s inspired by original Deathcore too and is comparable to Carnifex, Chelsea Grin and The Acadia Strain in points. If Deathcore is your thing, then I recommend in giving this one a spin.” – Drako’s Metal Reviews

“This album is powerful, passionate and uncompromisingly heavy. It is only five songs, a mere 16 minutes, and yet it hits with the force of runaway bus. In that brief amount of time Sterilizing the Deceased has managed to create a titan of an album. Ultimately in the end all I can do, is say this, I highly recommend “Nothing” by Sterilizing the Deceased and I suggest you get on your favorite streaming service and check it out right away.” – Rust Belt Rock Review

“Here’s a brand new single for the Deathcore fans out there. If you like bands like Chelsea Grin and I Declare War, chances are you may dig this. Sterilizing The Deceased is an up-and-coming band hailing from Cleveland, Ohio. They’re known for bringing the heavy and that’s exactly what they do with this new single. It’s called “Forgotten” and it certainly packs a punch with the weight of its breakdowns and the delivery of some melodic riffs. Check it out and show the dudes some support if you dig it.” – The Circle Pit (2015)

The vinyl features two exclusive bonus tracks “Arcane Oath” and the band’s cover of Black Sabbath’s “Hand of Doom”.

The band adds about the vinyl:

“Age of Wolves is an intricate merging of heavier, mid-paced poundage with the older, fast-paced death/thrash character. Its old-school styles will feel familiar and nostalgic to veteran metal fans, but does it in such a way that it feels new and fresh. We wanted to give the fans a throwback to the glory days of death metal and give them something they can headbang to and enjoy.”

“Age of Wolves” is a high-energy, brutal, dual guitar and vocal assault ready to melt faces upon first listen. It’s recommended for fans of Dissection, Carcass, At The Gates, and Dying Fetus.

“This album is so diverse and so free of genres, “Age Of The Wolves” puts forth a collection of Death metal rooted riffs, sick thrashy grooves reminiscent of Amon Amarth and Dying Fetus’ style.“ -Wayne Ortiz of Blackened Promotions

“Age of Wolves” is an album with strong, fresh appeal, and even the die-hard late 80s early 90s death metal cultists should give this album a listen. It’s more of an extreme metal album, so give it a shot!!” – Soulgrinder Zine

Edmonton death metal duo Tales of The Tomb have been a two-man wrecking crew for a while now with Trez Thomas (Guitar and Vocals) and Corey Skerlak (Guitar and Vocals), but earlier this month they announced they have become a trio with the addition of bassist Jonnii Guns. Over the last few months, the band has been unleashing guitar and bass playthrough videos in support of their latest EP “Volume Two: Mendicium” unleashed this past September.

Today, the band reveals their next duo guitar playthrough for the track “The Nightmare Hall”, which can be viewed via its premiere on TechnicalMusicReview HERE.

Guitarist Tres Thomas comments:

“‘The Nightmare Hall’ is one of the most technical songs we have written as of yet. It’s so amazing to finally release the playthrough for this song to showcase the merciless riffs in this duo playthrough. The video also features every guitar that was on the album, and more!”

Tales of The Tomb‘s latest EP “Volume Two: Mendicium” is a collection of narratives surrounding government cover-ups, national lies, and the heinous crimes committed amongst the shadows. It’s also a vicious bite of grinding blast beats, technical shredding accompanied by venomous guttural lows. It was mixed and mastered by Cryptopsy guitarist and head engineer/owner at The Grid Studios Christian Donaldson along with featuring artwork by Tony Midi of Tonymidi Artworks.

The EP is available on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music.

About:

Unified by the desire to have the grotesque power of 90’s era death and murder metal, Tales of The Tomb started as a thought that grew into an insatiable need to make extreme music.  Tales Of The Tomb was created in October 2013 from founder Corey Skerlak (guitar, vocals) out of inspiration from the original murder metal band Macabre.

Much of their inspiration is drawn from the hideous crimes and conspiracies of the world. Retelling stories of the dark hidden secrets and victims from such crimes. This was the inspiration for the name Tales of The Tomb.

– 30 –

“Overall, I recommend this album to death metal fans of all varieties. It is a fun album with a lot of great riffs. Also, I highly recommend reading the lyrics and learning about the conspiracy theories behind the songs.” – Metal Temple

“Volume Two: Mendacium is six songs of punishing metal fit for listeners with the heaviest of taste. Whether you’re spending time carving pumpkins or watching slasher movies this Halloween season, be sure to make room on your playlist for Tales of the Tomb.” – Surviving The Golden Age

” Their new, independently released EP is heavy as ice and laced up with razor-sharp production. Volume Two: Mendacium is a non-stop frosty riff fest, delivered on a moose-poutine platter of awesome production thanks to the Canucks over at The Grid. Slapshot your wallets & pick up this death metal gem.” – TrveNorth Reviews

“The need to head bang is strong with this one, and it made for an excellent addition to my Death Metal library.” – New-Transcendence

“All in all, Tales of the Tomb’s latest installment is a rather subtle tale that is more akin to a destructive musical journey through morbid lyrical themes and passages.” – Metal Trenches

Edmonton death metal duo Tales of The Tomb have been a two-man wrecking crew for a while now, but today, the band is happy to share the news that they will commence as a trio with the addition of new bassist Jonii Guns. In addition to him joining, the band is sharing his bass playthrough for the track ‘Sinful Messiah’ off of their latest EP “Volume Two: Mendicium” unleashed this past September.

Teaming up with NoCleanSinging, the band is premiering the bass playthrough HERE.

Bassist Jonii Guns comments:

“I’m excited to start working with the boys in Tales of The Tomb and moving into the next stage of my music career! I’m originally from the UK and moved to Canada nearly 3 years back. Previously I worked mostly with heavy metal, hardcore, and metalcore bands doing some touring and session work with the likes of The Hero Dies First, Faces of Eve, and years and years ago I helped out a little with L.A. Guns from… well LA! It was an awesome time playing with those bands and I have to say I wouldn’t be the musician I am without all the experiences I had with them! When first listening to Tales of The Tomb, I was unsure about the music having never played this kind of metal in the past, but after being sent the tabs and playing with the music, I really enjoyed it and the challenge of playing something new. Plus, I’m into alien conspiracy stuff, so I was super stoked when I heard all the different content with a darker theme! It makes it far more interesting! I’m really excited to be working with the lads on new material and incorporating my sound into the new EP and content we have planned.”

Edmonton death metal duo Tales of The Tomb are sharing with fans their latest guitar playthrough for ‘Mermaid In A Manhole’. The song is a bonus track that comes off of the band’s latest EP “Volume Two: Mendicium” unleashed this past September. The EP itself is a collection of narratives surrounding government cover-ups, national lies, and the heinous crimes committed amongst the shadows. It’s also a vicious bite of grinding blast beats, technical shredding accompanied by venomous guttural lows.

Today, guitarist Corey Skerlak has put together a new playthrough for the song, which is one of many more videos being released by the band in the coming weeks.

Behold the shredding via the video’s premiere on V13.net HERE.

The band explains the story behind the bonus track in further detail:

“‘Mermaid In A Manhole’ is the only song we have written that is truly-fictional. Based on a Japanese horror film Mermaid in a Manhole. The song focuses on a painter that is suffering from depression, who disembowels his wife while in a psychotic state. The story of the song ‘Mermaid in a Manhole’ does not really fit into our conspiracy theme we have for this EP. This is why we decided to list it as a bonus track to give it a proper release and the band had no plans to write more true-fiction based songs. Sonically we tried to recreate the psychosis the painter was going through, we wanted to represent the chaos that must have been going on in the painter’s mind to have brought himself to murder his wife. There is a sample at the end of the song, which has the sound of chopping and a man speaking in Japanese. This is audio taken right from the movie at the part where the painter is sitting on the ground covered in blood chopping up the remains of his mermaid saying, “My Mermaid, My Mermaid is dead.”

“Volume Two: Mendicium” was mixed and mastered by Cryptopsy guitarist and head engineer/owner at The Grid Studios Christian Donaldson along with featuring artwork by Tony Midi of Tonymidi Artworks. The EP is available on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 20, 2020

For fans of Sylosis, Dying Fetus, Cryptopsy, Archspire, Shadow of intent, Cattle Decapitation

Norwegian Death Metal Féleth Premiere Album Stream “Depravity” via Metal Injection

Due Out May 22nd via DeadPop Records

Nestled in the small northern Norwegian town of Alta, far above the Arctic circle, there’s a rumbling of brutality shaking the earth from a young, dynamic metal quintet known as Féleth. Creating heavy, melodic assaults, that transcends the traditional limits of the genre, these great northern Norwegians, are taking their influences of death metal, thrash, deathcore, rock and even elements of Jazz to unleash to the world their debut album “Depravity” due out via DeadPop Records on May 22, 2020.

Today, the band has teamed up with Metal Injection for the album’s exclusive full stream premiere HERE.

The band adds:

“After some years experimenting with a full lineup we’ve seem to have found our style. Hard, tricky death metal influenced by the whole death metal genre and more. We’ve worked hard and relentlessly on an album that we consider ready for the world, thanks in big part to the amazing production of Cryptopsy’s Christian Donaldson, who we can’t believe wanted to work on the record with us!”

“We are happy to share this piece we’ve been working on, bringing the best (in our minds) out of the different extreme metal genres. We’ve been grinding hard on this album for over a year, and we’re extremely grateful to anyone who will give this album from the middle of nowhere in the far north of Norway a listen!”

With songs like ‘Swan Song’ showing off their deathcore influences, to the epic ‘Dissolution’ jumping from death metal to jazz to black metal seamlessly, and tracks like ‘Pale Tongue’ transforming from in your face death metal to a beautiful ambient soundscape, Féleth is a band that is ready to rise to the occasion and leap into the international moshpit.

The album was mixed and mastered by death metal legend, Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy, Shadow of Intent, The Agonist, Beyond Creation) at The Grid Productions plus features guest vocals from hometown hero, singer/songwriter Petter Carlsen.

Album pre-save for Spotify, Apple Music, and all other major digital platforms HERE.

In additional news, the band will be performing on May 23rd a live stream gig for Alta Live, a local music festival in the band’s hometown of Alta, Norway. “The new Feléth album is a big melting pot of all things good in modern death metal… They serve up tech-death esque song structures and solos with the beautiful harmonies of melodic death metal and the crushing riffs of a brutal death metal banger. It’s an eclectic listen for sure. There are catchy parts here and there that make the record memorable and add to its replay value. The vocalist on here does an amazing job and the production value is high… Great record!” – Zax Record Reviews
