w/ Origin, Nekrogoblikon, Betraying The Martyrs, Wake & more!


Western Canada’s Armstrong Metal Fest reveals its 2019 line-up for its 11th annual mountain moshpit taking place on July 12th and 13th at the Hassen Arena in Armstrong, BC. A gathering like no other in the Okanagan Valley, Armstrong Metal Fest brings forth a horde of metalheads for camping and headbanging over two days. This year’s line up features headliners ORIGINwho will unleash onto the masses a full-blown sensory assault of tight, taut, and technical death metal amplified by flashes of grindcore and groove along with goblin tyrants NEKROGOBLIKON plus an onslaught of over 30 bands that includes Parisian extreme metallers BETRAYING THE MARTYRS, WAKE, ENTHEOS, Wacken Metal Battle Canada 2018 Champions CENTURIES OF DECAY and Slovenia’s WITHIN DESTRUCTION (full line up listed below).

About:
For 10 years running, West Metal Entertainment and Armstrong Metalfest has not only fostered the talent of hundreds of local bands but brought in well-known, international acts to the sleepy, little Canadian town of Armstrong, British Columbia.

Each year up to 700 metalheads from Canada and USA descend into the picturesque Okanagan Valley and under the blistering sun they spend 3 days camping, taking in over 30 bands, participating in wrestling events and scavenger hunts and catching up with their metal family.

The festival has seen such renowned headliners as Kataklysm, Cattle Decapitation, Archspire, and Beyond Creation as well as emerging artists from across North America. At the end of the revelry, the festival disappears without a trace, leaving the landscape as pristine as it has always been.

West Metal Entertainment is a non-profit society that not only puts on Armstrong Metal Festival every year in Armstrong, B.C., but gives bands opportunities to play different venues throughout the region including all ages shows, to encourage musical passion in kids as well as adults.

Glasgow’s ATLAS : EMPIRE released their debut album “The Stratosphere Beneath Our Feet” this past December. Weaving their way between the multitudes of different genres that influence them, the trio visits the worlds of heavy progressive rock and expansive ambient shoegaze. Crossing the Atlantic to North America, the proggers will be visiting Canada for their third time since their performances in Ontario in 2017, which included showcasing at Indie Week in Toronto.

Bassist Robert Hasebe comments:

“We are unbelievably excited to cross the Atlantic for our third tour of Canada. This is an important tour for us as we will be touring our brand new album ‘The Stratosphere Beneath Our Feet’. LORDS OF THE TRIDENT announce their first quest of 2019 will be for “The Metal, Spikes, And Chicken-Fried Steak Tour” with A SOUND OF THUNDER. The metal warriors will be performing four dates kicking off the first in Cincinnati on January 17th and wrapping up the crusade in Atlanta on January 20th. The tour is in support of LORDS OF THE TRIDENT‘s 7th studio album “Shadows From The Past” released this past August. Album stream can be heard on Bandcamp, Spotify, and Youtube.

Since climbing out of a volcano in 2008, shrouded in metal and ash, Lords of the Trident have gone to battle on many stages across the USA, playing and headlining a plethora of festivals and have an admirable arsenal of recordings in their inventory. Growing into one of Canada’s best events to celebrate 420 culture, METALHEADS UNITED is proud to announce the first batch of bands for the 2019 line-up of the 420 Music & Arts Festival being hosted in Calgary, AB, Canada on April 18th, 19th, and 20th.

The line up features an assortment of stoner, psychedelic, heavy rock, sludge and doom with a range of returning festival alumni and fresh talent that is sure to satisfy attendees and their craving for good times and great music. Last year’s festival fan favourite and huge crowd pleaser San Diego’s Great Electric Quest return with their partying blend of classic metal and stoner rock. They will be joined on the line up by festival veterans Heron (Vancouver), Mammoth Grove (Calgary), Brown Dwarf (Red Deer) and Black Hell Oil (Saskatoon). Confirmed to perform on the festival for the first time will be Bort (Vancouver), Bloated Pig (Calgary), Denimachine (Calgary), The Baseborn Band (Calgary), Shadow Weaver (Calgary), Row of Giants (Calgary) and all the way from the UK, the event’s first ever European act, groovy progressive stoner rock band The Grudge on their first trip to North America (links to the bands listed below).

In addition to the festival’s music programming, the 2019 festivities will be offering an expanded selection of events that will be hosted at various venues in Calgary, which includes a Pinball Tournament at Pin-Bar (501 17th Ave SW) on April 20th. More details events to be announced.

Booze fueled southern rockers White Cowbell Oklahoma have returned flaunting their uncompromising sleaze, this time with a new video for their track ‘Into The Sun’ off ‘Seven Seas of Sleaze’ released this past April through their own label Slick Monkey.

A rootin’ tootin’ grungy, melodic medley of southern rock covered in a layer of grease, ‘Into The Sun’ boasts foot tappin’ heavy psych riffage that will get you moving and the visuals in the video may just trip you out, you’ve been warned!

Recommended for fans of Deep Purple, ZZ Top and Frank Zappa, White Cowbell Oklahoma has made their mark appearing at festivals like SXSW, and NXNE and tours like Rockstar Uproar. The band also regularly performs throughout the European festival circuit.

       Western Canada’s decibel breaking heavy metal festival LOUD AS HELL have opened band submissions for their 2019 line-up being hosted in Drumheller, AB from August 2nd to 4th at the Dinosaur Downs Stampede Grounds. For the last 7 years, Loud As Hell has been presenting one of the loudest Western Canadian metal festivals with non stop headbanging, moshing and camping over 3 days. The party gets so loud that even the dinosaur fossils come back to life!

Last year’s 2018 edition saw another sold out event with FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY, INTO ETERNITY, ARCHSPIRE, NINJASPY, WEST OF HELLalong with the over 40 other bands that performed and annihilated the pilgrimage of metalheads from across Canada.

The kings of comedy rock PSYCHOSTICK are hitting the road this coming October and November for “The Socks, Sandals & PJ Pants Tour” with Downtown Brown and Danimal Cannon (dates listed below) in support of their new album “DO”.

This latest full length from PSYCHOSTICK was a surprise album that the laugh masters revealed to the world this past July during a live fan engagement webcast on Twitch (watch the video here). The album was four years in the making to follow PSYCHOSTICK’s extremely fan loved “IV: Revenge of The Vengeance” and continues the band’s genius of blending comedy, metal, heavy rock and the occasional spoof cover.

“DO” debut #1 on Billboard’s Comedy Albums chart along with ranking at #14 for Hard Rock Album, #39 for Rock Album, #39 for Independent Albums and #9 for Heatseekers Albums for the week of August 11th.

Unleashing their debut album “Badder Than Brooklyn” produced by Joe Duplantier of Gojira during October of last year along with a lengthy tour across Canada, Toronto-based metal messiahs DECATUR will be kicking off their fall “Buried Out Back Tour” across Ontario a full year after their full length’s release. Their first date of the tour will begin in Cornwall on October 6th and wrap up in Windsor on October 27th. DECATUR has gone through line up changes since releasing their debut album. “Worst Enemy was actually the first song I wrote for this album. I was at a pretty dark place in my life at the time. I was struggling with depression and anxiety and was constantly berating myself with negativity. I felt trapped in a box so to speak and I became my own worst enemy. That’s what the song is about and the music video we made emphasizes that emotion of being trapped in that box or in your own head saying all these things to yourself. Throughout the years I have learned to find more coping methods and I am always learning more about myself. Hopefully this song helps other knows they are not alone and to seek help if they need it.”

The EP features four tracks showcasing the band intertwining the accessibility of rock, the technicality of prog, and the energy of hardcore. Through intelligent songwriting, creative guitar work, and emotional intensity, they meld dynamic, bold, bewitching sounds to create no holds barred rock.

“Speak True Evil is a showcase for Kill No Albatross’ dynamic, technically proficient, intellectual approach to rock music. These four songs cover musical ground that ranges from furious to sweet, hopeful to agonized. The powerful vocals of Kyle Collins pair with the tight, impassioned instrumentation to create a unique sound that is as meticulous as it is robust. Going more in depth on the release, it plays off the title of Wayne Shorter’s 1966 jazz record “Speak No Evil”; “Speak True Evil” asserts the legitimacy of free speech as asserted by thinkers like Mill, Paine, Luxemburg, and Hitchens. Doom Duo ZAUM Announce Canadian Tour Dates w/ Sweden’s FIREBREATHER

New Brunswick’s ECMA and Music NB award winning mantra doom duo ZAUM announce they will be embarking on Canadian dates in Ontario and Quebec (dates listed below) with support from Sweden’s FIREBREATHER whom the band toured Europe with last year (watch their music video “Release The Lava” here.)

ZAUM‘s Kyle Alexander McDonald comments:

“We’re floored to have FIREBREATHER join us for this Canadian tour, much of which was a makeup for the cities we missed last summer. We toured three weeks across Europe with the 3-piece Swedish stoner doom band and are very close with them both personally and also intertwined with them lore wise within ZAUM. Their lead vocalist Mattias sang a part on our last album and will be performing that live with us here in Canada for the first time. Our intentions are to head directly into the studio afterwards and finish album #3 with a 2019 release in mind.”

ZAUM’s second and latest full length musical chapter “Eidolon” was released October 24, 2016 via I HATE Records with distribution via Plastic Head/Sony Music throughout Europe and Century Media in North America to follow their 2014 debut album “Oracles”. In their three years as an active touring band ZAUM have amassed 200+ shows (mainly international) under their belts including support stints for Voivod, Pentagram, and Cauldron.

ZAUM is a passage toward the dark realizations of the old world; a monolithic doomy mantra based meditative experience forged by bass and drums interwoven with sitar, woodwind, string and synth textures. Based in Moncton, NB – observers experience a tranquil resonance whereby the astral and physical planes can co-exist and be understood from a natural perspective.
