0 Voodu Announce Crushing, Varied Debut Single “Pictures” Off Upcoming Album

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – November 3, 2022

Voodu Announce Crushing, Varied Debut Single “Pictures” Off Upcoming Album

Voodu is an American modern metal band from Los Angeles, USA. They got started during the pandemic, and now, with their debut album in the works, they are excited to introduce themselves to fans. The first look at who Voodu is comes through the groove-oriented single “Pictures”. It starts on a thick bassline and builds up from there before exploding into the song’s main riff. It dynamically bounces between quieter verses and explosively loud choruses. No part of the song is identical to another. Every verse, chorus, and the bridge is different in one way or another. The band shares their thoughts on the release:

“Pictures came from a place of confusion and despair. In its composition, the sense of spiraling into disarray and apathy before being consumed with anger and angst came naturally in its progression. We joke that it’s as “prog” as we get, between the verse starting on the 2 of a 4 count and chorus starting on the 4, the meter change from 4/4 to 7/4 in the bridge, and the key change at the end. While the song is far from “prog”, in many ways those elements fit in the song’s composition in a way we didn’t realize made total sense. They catch you off guard the same way the lyrics allude to being confused between what’s real and what’s made up. It is both a cry for help and an apathetic plea of defeat. The push and pull between “help me” and “leave me alone”. It’s begging to be numb or ambivalent to the pain caused by the confusion and doubt of one’s own self or the world around them.”

The forthcoming yet-to-be-titled album is a high-energy group of songs that are meant to walk fans through a vast range of emotions. Even the slightly slower or more emotional songs still have heavily distorted guitars and melodically aggressive vocals. It covers a wide range of subjects from feelings of self-doubt, toxic relationships, people who abuse power, the duality of human nature, and addiction. Voodu hopes that their first offering will resonate with people on a visceral level, in a way they haven’t heard before.

Chick full of a wide assortment of influences, Voodu makes music that will appeal to a wide audience. One of the bands they cite is Linkin Park, who introduced them to this kind of music. It’s the comparison they get most often, due to similarities in voice and the electronic element. Thus far, they have made fans out of the most dedicated of metalheads, as well as the “I don’t usually listen to heavy music” people and everyone in between. They are especially recommended for fans of Rammstein, Linkin Park, and Alice In Chains.

Take A Glimpse Into Stark Reality With Abandoned Souls’ Video For “Blinding Darkness”

L-R: Derek De Kort (Guitar) | James Todd (Vocals) | Tom Dobrentey (Drums) | Reagan Thorne (Bass)

Canada’s Abandoned Souls released their powerful and emotional single “Blinding Darkness” on October 9, 2020 and now to complement it they are releasing a music video for it.

While most of the band’s music comes from a personal place, “Blinding Darkness” is especially meaningful to the band. It was written shortly after vocalist James Todd went through the heartbreaking experience of losing his mother. This is the first new music they have released since the last EP in 2017. The band explains the writing process for the single in their own words:

“We started tracking for Blinding Darkness towards the end of 2019. Then in early 2020 as we are all aware, the world changed. That put a huge wrench in our plans so, like everyone we had to adapt. We already had drums and bass tracked for Blinding Darkness. Derek recorded all his guitars at his home and sent me the tracks to re-amp thru his amp here at the studio. I also recorded all the vocals during the pandemic shutdown. Luckily, I own the studio and had lots of time to mix and refine the song during this time. It is the first release from the new Foundation Studio and we are super excited for everyone to hear it!”

Heavy and aggressive but not sacrificing melody, Abandoned Souls have been honing their craft since they started jamming as friends over a decade ago. Staying true to their sound, the video is uplifting and heavy and puts a positive spin on the dark subject matter.

Citing that it has been a long road to get to the point where they are at, Abandoned Souls is hoping the release of this single will tide fans over until the world gets back to a sense of normalcy and shows can begin again.

Hard rock n’ roll fans will take a liking to Abandoned Souls, especially fans of Godsmack, Three Days Grace, and Alice in Chains.

The video for “Blinding Darkness” can be viewed at the following link on YouTube.

The single is available for stream on Spotify and download on Apple Music.

Abandoned Souls Cast A Light On Reality With Single “Blinding Darkness”

L-R: Derek De Kort (Guitar) | James Todd (Vocals) | Tom Dobrentey (Drums) | Reagan Thorne (Bass)

Canada’s Abandoned Souls will be releasing their new single “Blinding Darkness” on October 9, 2020 with a video soon to follow.

With the release of “Blinding Darkness”, the band is excited to share with fans their blend of powerful and personal music inspired by life experiences. For the year 2020, it’s absolutely the right song at the right time. The lyrics for this song were written shortly after James Todd’s mother passed away, and he channeled his thoughts during that dark time into the music. He explains the meaning of the song in his own words:

“The song is about facing the reality of death or dark times and dealing with it. It’s also learning to maneuver through the darkness and finding a way to be more comfortable within that space. To realize that you need to face it head-on sometimes and learn how to live and prosper from the experience of getting through these times.”

As the cliché goes, “there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.”, Abandoned Souls shows strength and pushes through, finding that light and marching towards it. Given the current state of the world, this encouragement to overcome obstacles is pertinent as ever.

Abandoned Souls have amassed a respectable discography since 2006 including four full-length albums and an EP. As their name partly implies, they write hard-hitting aggressive music that has melody. Consistently writing tunes with heavy replay value, sharing the stage with many well-known bands, and appearing at several festivals, Abandoned Souls knows how to write classic heavy songs that will linger in the minds of listeners.

Recommended for fans of hard rock including Alter Bridge, Godsmack, Three Days Grace; “Blinding Darkness” is available on October 9, 2020.

The single can be heard before it officially drops via its premiere on V13.net HERE.

Canada’s NeoNera Encourages Self-Reflection With New Music Video “Saviour”

Alternative rock act NeoNera from Ottawa, Canada, has announced their latest single “Saviour”, which tackles the presence of “white knights” – men who believe that women need to be saved from society and from themselves. It has deep personal meaning to the band, and because of the strength of the message, better suited to stand on its own.

Despite being aware the video could possibly lead to some uncomfortable conversations, the band has a positive outlook for the reception of the single as they explain in their own words:

“We think that fans will be excited about this single and video and appreciate the amount of effort and detail that has gone into this production, especially those who have grown with us over the years, and ideally it will help capture new fans. We know that certain people will be triggered by the video, and we’ll lose fans because of it. We’re prepared for that though and won’t change our message to avoid someone feeling uncomfortable. Sometimes the only way to change is to have those types of conversations.”

NeoNera is loud, with raw grungy guitar and heavy driving progressive drums and bass. Their music is progressive, yet danceable rock music and conveying a strong message is a key aspect to their art. They take the opportunity with this single to really drive that home.

Reminiscent of 90’s grunge, NeoNera is recommended for fans of Alice In Chains, Nirvana and Soundgarden.

The music video for “Saviour” can be viewed HERE.

The single is available on Spotify, Apple Music.

About:

NeoNera is a three-piece alternative rock band from Ottawa, Canada that mixes progressive percussion with dynamic, driving bass and manic grunge guitar riffs. The band’s vocals blend frantic whispers, pounding highs, soulful lows with cathartic screams, and lyrics that peel the layers of conceit and corruption from our NEON ERA. An era of social media perfection and celebrity worship that hides scars beneath, fractured relationships, and even the voices in our own heads- all are stripped bare.

NeoNera plays live sets that offer frenzied energy, poor banter, and heavy yet danceable rock music.

The soul in the solo and the gift of the riff. The blues from the heart and the colour in the art. Emerging from the underground of Montreal comes The Naked High. Joining forces in the summer of 2015, connected by a love of similar music ranging from blues to rock to metal, the dauntless quartet brings an electric chemistry to their music, amplified when they are on stage.

Releasing their latest EP “Tap Into The Evil” this past May, the band is sharing with fans their new video for the first single they unleashed “Jewel of The Crowd”. The video captures live clips from the band’s December 2019 performance in Montreal at Club Soda.

When asked about the track, the band comments:

“Lyrically and even musically this song takes love from Aerosmith’s style of writing. Sexual innuendos and just dirty fun lyrics. The way rock n’ roll used to be before everyone became so tame. The song is about wild nights and wild shows. It has a sleaze metal sound like riffs from a Guns n Roses, Skid Row, or Aerosmith record.”

Watch the video via its premiere on GhostCultMag HERE.
The Naked High is Hugo Leclerc-Charron delivering solos on guitar, Simon Ouellet with Iron Maiden-esque vocals, Phil Perreault keeping the low end steady, and Charlie Cayouette backing everything up with his rocking beat.

The Naked High have released their second EP entitled “Tap Into The Evil”. The 6 songs show the evolution of their sound from their 2017 self-titled debut as they push forward into the next chapter of the band and continue to learn from the legends that they admire while forging their own respective path in Rock N Roll.

“Tap Into The Evil” can be heard in full on the following platforms Bandcamp, YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music.

Track Listing:
1. Jewel Of The Crowd (3:22)
2. Rebirth (2:42)
3. Sleep Paralysis (6:54)
4. She’s So Marie (4:33)
5. Moon Turns red (5:39)

“Varied vocals, catchy riff and virtuoso solos at a high level. The Naked High are a welcome surprise from the Stoner area for me. Tap Into the Evil is varied and creative. No surprise that the band can already look back on a solid fan base. A must for fans of Alice in Chains or Black Sabbath , an absolute recommendation for everyone else. Too bad that it is only available digitally. However, I am convinced and give a whopping 10/10 .” – Sound Magnet

“The Naked High was already being greeted by applause when they walked on stage. Their mushroom-infused sound pulled in the crowd faster than a turkey on Thanksgiving. I mean, as soon as they opened up with “Liquid Love,” a song that resonates well with the stoner crowd, people were already into it. Simon Ouellet, singer and frontman, is basically what would happen if Ronnie James Dio had a child with Phil Anselmo.” – Bucketlist Music Reviews (2019 Live Review opening for King Buffalo, Mountain Dust)

“The night opened with The Naked High. Their sound covered a lot of diverse metal territory. Their vocalist had an operatic Iron Maiden vibe, while the guitar playing took cues from Ozzy Osbourne‘s career and beyond. The second song in their set had a distinctly early metal sound, but a lot of the guitar parts evoked a slightly younger generation, particularly the squealing tendencies of Zakk Wylde.” – Bucketlist Music Reviews (2017 Live Review Opening for Truck Fighters)

“The group play an eclectic mix of blues/stoner rock and metal, and do so very well! For a band that hasn’t been around for too long, I feel like they’ve really nailed down their unique sound, even if the elements they use are rather familiar. Musically, the style falls in between Black Sabbath and the bluesy bravado of Danzig, and their songs that night were infectious with groove and tasteful guitar play. Singer Simon Ouellet showed his vast arsenal of vocal styles as well as his entertaining mid-song banter. This is one Montreal band everyone should keep their eye out for.” – Bucketlist Music Reviews (2016 Live Review opening for Bongzilla, Black Cobra)

“This Montreal band has some legit balls, and has made their debut with six tracks worthy of twenty year veterans. The Naked High is somewhere between metal and hard rock, with just a touch of doom. Excellent musicianship, songwriting and production quality (recorded, mixed and mastered at badass studio, wherever that is). I keep playing this one, and the digital download comes with lyrics, which are worth it for the song “Juice” alone (a song about Colonel Angus, so to speak). Here’s a good example of an album where the cover art pretty much performs perfect vetting for its clientele. If you dig the cover, I’m pretty sure you’ll dig the tunes, and if the cover is a turn-off for you, you are probably making the right call to walk away. Here is the opener, “Mean Amphetamine”. It gets better and better as it progresses.” – Heavy Metal Text Books

On Friday, July 10th, cinematic rock metallers Alizarin will be releasing their sophomore album “The Last Semblance”. Unlike their strictly instrumental debut record “Cast Zenith” (2018), this next release features prominent vocals throughout from guitarist Josh Kay. Rich harmonies and baritone resonance from Kay’s voice add a new dimension to the music, allowing the band’s sound to expand to truly uncharted territory.

The album covers a wide spectrum of sonic landscapes and emphasizes the melodic journey over deliberate technique. Although vocalist and guitarist Joshua Kay is the chief songwriter of Alizarin, the compositions on the new record focus on a balance from each instrument, with less of an emphasis on the domination of guitar solos and a greater exploration of what each musician is capable of. Drawing influence from such groups as Porcupine Tree, Haken, Alice in Chains, Opeth, Portishead, and many more, the result of Alizarin‘s sound is one that is challenging to define, pensive, and often at the crossroads of melody and dissonance.

Today, before the album’s official release, the band has teamed up with SonicPerspectives for the full stream premiere of “The Last Semblance” HERE.

Kay adds:

“We are extremely excited and proud to present our new album ‘The Last Semblance’, a record that defies the expectations of modern progressive music and offers something for every listener. This music takes our brand of cinematic metal we began on our debut record and expands upon it in every single way. Rich and dramatic compositions, unorthodox chord progressions, lush vocals and harmonies, and compelling melodies abound on our new album. We wanted to stand out from our peers and offer something that will be immediately memorable and captivating, yet will continue to reveal new layers of depth upon every listen.”

“The Last Semblance” will be available on Bandcamp (CD and Digital), Spotify, and Apple Music.

Born out of the forward-thinking inclinations of guitarist/vocalist Josh Kay in late 2017, Alizarin is on a mission to explore unconventional rock music. In addition to Kay, the Los Angeles based group consists of Jon Damon on drums, Terran Fernandez on bass guitar and Avelino Ramirez on keyboard.

1. Elegy Simulacra (7:55)
2. Fathom (6:53)

6. Zero Sum (7:03)

“While some of the material is more fitting to be described as “cinematic rock” due to the instrumental muzak feel of the songs’ structure, this album possesses the punch of a Dream Theater release and the momentum of a King Crimson record.” – Metal Injection (Album Review – Cast Zenith)

Their wide variety of influences and love for rock n’ roll ensures their music is written effortlessly and naturally.

Sometimes it starts with a drum beat, or a bass line, or even a vocal line, regardless of how it starts out, it always turns into something melodic and passionate. Self-described as the ’70s meets Seattle, they combine two eras of music into their own distinct sound.

Cinematic rock metallers Alizarin announce they will be releasing their sophomore album “The Last Semblance” on July 10, 2020 and are excited to share the full length’s third single ‘Heirloom’. The track is one of the heavier, more energetic, and harder-hitting songs with some of the strongest vocal parts and strangest grooves on the album.

Today, the band has teamed up with TheProgSpace for the premiere of ‘Heirloom’ HERE.

Vocalist/guitarist Josh Kay explains the track in further detail:

“It is one of the most heavy-hitting, catchy, and melodic tunes that also captures many of the approaches we incorporate. “Heirloom” almost steps into power metal territory, while still holding a firm footing in groove-oriented progressive metal. Thematically, the song considers the timeline of humanity and our intellectual evolution. It looks at humans as emotionally charged and proud “adolescents” of sorts on this timeline, with a long way to go to find a more harmonious existence, if that time ever arrives. ”

Alizarin released their first full-length album, titled “Cast Zenith”, in 2018 and is preparing to release their new album “The Last Semblance” in summer 2020. Unlike their strictly instrumental debut record, this follow up release features prominent vocals throughout. Rich harmonies and baritone resonance from Kay’s voice add a new dimension to the music, allowing the band’s sound to expand to truly uncharted territory.

“The Last Semblance” covers a wide spectrum of sonic landscapes and emphasizes the melodic journey over deliberate technique. Although Kay is the chief songwriter of Alizarin, the compositions on the new record focus on a balance of each instrument, with less of an emphasis on the domination of guitar solos and a greater exploration of what each musician is capable of. The album draws influence from such groups as Porcupine Tree, Haken, Alice in Chains, Opeth, Portishead, and many more. The results are a sound that is challenging to define, pensive, and often at the crossroads of melody and dissonance.

Kay adds:

“The album is a work of cinematic progressive metal, centered around brooding melodies and wrapped in epic compositions. There are influences from many styles of music, many beyond metal as well. The music is very melody-driven, with technical aspects in moderation woven into the larger song structures. The chords, melodies, and arrangements are meant to be unpredictable, unconventional, and compelling while remaining extremely listenable and catchy.“

Album pre-order HERE along with an immediate download of singles ‘Heirloom’, ‘Velvet Margin’, and ‘Elegy Simulacra’ plus their previous release “Cast Zenith” available on Spotify and iTunes.

“If you like true prog with many deep routed jazz rhythm changes, close harmonies, and unexpected cadences, this is certainly the album for you. It has a classic sound, which reminds me very much of bands like The Enid and Rush, but also is heavily influenced by more recent developments like Opeth.” – Ever Metal  (Album Review – The Last Semblance)

“While some of the material is more fitting to be described as “cinematic rock” due to the instrumental muzak feel of the songs’ structure, this album possesses the punch of a Dream Theater release and the momentum of a King Crimson record.” – Metal Injection (Album Review – Cast Zenith)

“‘Cast Zenith’ is music that has intelligence and depth, music that takes the listener on an involving journey. This is a great start from this impressive trio and one which promises much for the future, Alizarin are a band that we definitely need to keep an eye on.” – Prog Radar  (Album Review – Cast Zenith)

“Creating songs that can grip the standard listener and help expand their ideas and thoughts on what music should and can be. That’s what makes great prog truly great, and on that note the debut album Cast Zenith is a great album by a fantastic band.” – Metal Assault (Album Review – Cast Zenith)

“There is a lightness, space and confidence on this album, and it certainly doesn’t come across as a self-released debut, but rather from guys who have been around the block. Jazzy prog metal (love the distorted chorded fretless bass on “Anomaly”) which is worth hearing.” – Progressor (Album Review – Cast Zenith)

“There is plenty of variety on this all-instrumental debut. Alizarin have produced a stunning debut, showing compositional chops and instrumental prowess.” – Progressive Rock Fanatics (Album Review – Cast Zenith)

Cinematic rock metallers Alizarin announce they will be releasing their sophomore album “The Last Semblance” on July 10, 2020and are excited to share the full length’s second single ‘Velvet Margin’. The track is very vocally driven with many harmonies throughout with plenty of piano and acoustic guitar sections.

Today, the band has teamed up with Metal-Rules for the premiere of ‘Velvet Margin’ HERE.

Vocalist/guitarist Josh Kay explains the track in further detail:

“This second single, “Velvet Margin”, is a drastic contrast from most of the other tracks on the new record. Driven by haunting vocal lines, expressive counter harmonies, and layered acoustic instrumentation, the song arguably contains some of the most melodic and memorable passages on the album. In many ways it is some of the most uncharted territories for Alizarin, letting the vocals drive a lot of the music and focusing even less on flashy or over the top instrumentation. The closest thing to a “ballad” we have, although we tend to steer clear of that term.”

Born out of the forward-thinking inclinations of guitarist/vocalist Josh Kay in late 2017, Alizarin is on a mission to explore unconventional rock music. Stoner Grunge BADGUYSWIN Premiere Music Video ‘Honey Bucket’ via New Noise Mag

Acting Cameo By ExPain Guitarist Pat Peeve

Debut Album “Cowards” Out Now!

L-R – Alex Huber – Bass Guitar, Vocals, Shane Sherman – Vocals, Guitar, Zak Waterlow – Drums

Releasing their debut album “Cowards” earlier this April, Grand Forks, BC’s 90’s grunge stoner rock trio BADGUYSWIN are sharing their next music video ‘Honey Bucket’ that features an acting cameo by ExPain guitarist Pat Peeve.

The video is being premiered via New Noise Mag HERE.

Vocalist/guitarist Shane Sherman explains the track:

“When we first started writing ‘Honey Bucket’ we didn’t know how impactful of a song it would become. I brought the first two riffs to our drummer Zak and he felt it out quickly, incorporating a strong Spanish style groove to the bluesy sound. Later on, we wrote the chorus and it was apparent it had a very strong hook. The lyrics are a vague description of being dependent on something. Vague enough to leave the message up for interpretation, but direct enough to tell a story of desperation. Originally we had a different ending. But we didn’t feel it had enough impact. We wanted a powerful finish to the song that would translate well to a live audience. After a few different ideas we really nailed it down and it’s become a staple in our set.”

Featuring 3 out of 4 members from technical metal band Slagduster, BADGUYSWIN shows off their original roots in music, the grunge era of the 90s where they would glue themselves to the stereo for hours. The members of BADGUYSWIN also all grew up together in the same small town and have been playing music together in various ways for 15 years.

The band’s debut full length “Cowards” was written to give the listener an experience that doesn’t repeat itself over 12 tracks. It’s an album that is a heavy and hooky modern take on a classic sound with influences that are everything 90’s in grunge, stoner, alternative, and punk. It was conceived organically, performed, and recorded DIY style at the home studio of drummer Zak Waterlow with mastering by Brock McFarlane of CPS studios in Vancouver. The album has a crisp and larger than life sound. With plenty of easter eggs that’ll have you searching for more from each listen.

“Cowards” is available for stream and download on Spotify, Apple Music along with physical CDs having limited edition artwork painted by Shane Sherman on Bandcamp. Each song’s lyrical content revolves around a story and a main character. A painting was depicted for each persona.

“Another grunge-inspired stoner rock ‘n’ roll track now with BADGUYSWIN and their debut ‘Needle Beach’, combining Ozzy-like vocals with the kind of riffs you’d see Orange Goblin churning out through their career… quite the way to introduce themselves!” – Uber Rock UK

“Due out on April 10th, the guys are ready to unleash their debut full-length, Cowards, tailor-made to give you a different listening experience with each of the record’s twelve tracks. Grunge rock may be a distant spec in the musical rearview mirror, but it’s comforting to know that bands such as BADGUYSWIN are carrying on the tradition of that legendary era.” – V13

“BADGUYSWIN calls back to the Stoner Rock and Grunge sounds of their youth.” Ghost Cult Mag

“Cowards is chock full of sublime punked up riffs and harmonies such as “Fly On the Wall” as well as percussive masterpieces in “Lowlifer” and “Coal”. The lyrics speak out to the listener. For example, “Honey Bucket” is about alcoholism and addiction… Cowards provides a perfect feeling of leaves-you-wanting-more. Each song is constructed for maximum appeal with stunning fretwork, exemplary percussion and bass and vocals a bit on the higher range but certainly fitting. With Badguyswin, there is so much to rock out to here.” – Boston Rock Radio
